That's awesome!

How do you like it so far? Feel better on the "good carbs"?

Congratulations! Your goal weight seems a little low.

I agree that for your height the goal weight seems pretty low. I am 5'4" and my goal weight is 145, but I am aiming for the higher end of the normal range for my height, and that number may change. I'll worry about that when I get there. I wonder where your doctor got the goal weight. But at this point I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's just a number to shoot for, and when you start getting closer to it your body will let you know where it is comfortable. As long as you are not going to be devastated if you end up at, say, 140 instead of 115. If you are like me, anything with a 1 in front of it looks pretty good.

Congrats.... great job. I too think your goal is a little low, I am 5 foot tall and my goal is not that low. I am aiming for 120.

Congrats! I have been on the diet almost three weeks and have lost 21 lbs. It's nice to see it coming off, but I also know that the hardest work is yet to come. :)

Heh heh heh...maybe the doctor read that article, and wants you to "shoot for a higher goal" to give you more motivation?

08-22-2008, 09:00 AM
Thanks everyone. My doctor suggested the goal weight.

does not mean it's a good goal for you. it may be what he thinks all women your height should weigh....

Not to harp on the goal weight, just a friendly measuring stick, I am just shy of 5 foot and try to maintain around 112 which is where my body seems comfortable. At the end of my losing stage I hit an all time low of 107 and I have to tell you it was just too much, just the extra 5 pounds made a huge difference in my appearance, especially in my face. You will know what is right for you when you get there! Good job so far, keep up the great work!

Congradulations!!! That's wonderful!

I agree the goal weight your doctor suggested is pretty low, but there were studies done that women who aim for an "unrealistic number" tend to lose weight with more success. Not that they achieve the unrealistic goal, but strive harder towards a healthy weight maybe? I don't know if that is what your doctor is trying with you, but maybe when you do reach the real number he/she has in mind maybe then he/she will tell you to maintain that number. Kinda like aiming for the stars, but if you only make it to the clouds you did great? Who knows...doctors can be great, but sometimes they are just everyday people who read different books than us. Again congradulations and good luck with the rest of your journey!

I'm irritated that people want to comment negatively on her goal weight (even though she wasn't asking for input about her goal weight).

According to the (, 5'6" and 114.5 is the lowest end of the "normal weight" range.

Congrats on your success so far!

Congrats on your success thus far! A goal weight is highly personal and can be reevaluated at any point and as the opener did not as for input on it I think it’s best to stay away from comments on her goal. If she has questions then she will likely post a thread about it.
Again Congrats and keep going!

Congratulations on your loss so far. Just ignore the unsolicited comments. You will know when you are the right weight for you.

You will know when you are the right weight for you.

Exactly. I wouldn't neccessarily use what a Dr. told me either. Only the individual can evaluate that.

:welcome3: FoodObsessed! Sounds like you're doing really well! Tell us more about you--how did you come to SBD, what are you doing that's working well, etc.

Hope we'll see you on the daily thread! :D

Thanks everyone. My friend suggested SB to me when I was 280lbs in 2004. I lost 90lbs but gained it back because I was taking medication for schizo-affective disorder. It's taken me 4yrs to start losing the weight again.
