Meme - I hope your headache has subsided and that you are feeling a lot better today. I made that strawberry salad for Easter dinner. If was so good. I could find strawberry pie filling, so I got a lite cherry. Next time, it will be strawberry.
Mima - I do hope that they woman learns to stay in her own suite. That would be annoying if she just came up whenever she felt like it. I guess lonliness is not a nice thing, however.
Hi, Ally, Candice and Joanne.
I was so tired yesterday, after all that company for dinner on Sunday. My back and legs hurt so bad that I just wanted to lay down and do nothing - so that is what I did. I started reading a book instead. Even my poor eyeballs hurt:lol: I don't know why I do this to myself, but I have done it for years. My brothers, nieces, nephews and now their kids, one of my aunts and uncle, and cousins. This year both my brothers were missing, as one is still down south and won't be back until mid April and the other had to go to his in-laws. One nephew was missing as well, as they live 600 miles from here and are leaving for China today.
On Sunday, my daughter was complaining because her legs hurt. She, and my son, had gone to the gym on Saturday, and I think she was trying to keep up with him. Anyway, I told her, that's how my legs feel everyday, and I didn't even have the pleasure of doing exercises. She couldn't believe that that is how we feel, everyday. Now she knows.
I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Happy- Glad to hear you servived Easter dinner. The bad or maybe best part is we get to eat all the leftovers. I agree with your picture message.
Mima.. Sounds like you are settling in. I found that you sometimes have to be very plain when you have to let someone know you don't need company all the time.

Happy...like that picture.
Meme....Are YOU still taking 5-HTP? I am taking a break and low and behold I am having my second migraine. So I go on the computer and am looking up 5-HTP and find a study about its effectiveness in MIGRAINES. And now that I think about it, the last time I went off I got migraines too. So, I have had a break for a few weeks. Hope that is enough, cause I am going to take it again. As soon as this migraine started this afternoon, I ate Hershey's kisses. Carb cravings.
Candice....yeah, some of these supplements cause problems in some people. I just read that Kava Kava can cause liver damage.

Hi, everyone! I used to post on these boards a long time ago, but I have been MIA for quite some time. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome in 1998 after never recuperating from surgery to have a kidney removed in 1997. I will be 31 this year and I homeschool my 2 blessings, ages 9 and 12. I will be re-joing WW on Thursday. I had a root canal today, so I thought I would wait a couple of days before rejoining.

We have been getting our taxes together (or...hubby has...) And just figured out tonight that I made a little over $6,000 last year that we haven't paid in on...Opps...Not good! :nono:
Migraine is gone but I have an awful cough that just won't go away!!! My ribs are killing me...can't lay down to sleep...miserable!

Welcome back Meshell! Hope to see more of you! What is the difference between Fibro and myofacial pain?
Meme..sounds like you might owe Uncle Sam some mula! You are the fashion queen aren't you! I have not been able to wear any type of dress shoe since 1992 when I broke my foot! So anything I wear has to go with pants or dresses! My not look good but I can walk in them!
Ally........Sounds like the 5htp really helps you! I'm jsut afraid to try it since I have so much trouble with stuff.
Happy..sounds like you had a nice family get together over Easter. I know people do not understand how we feel...when I have a good day I don't realize it untill I am having a worse day! (that make any since)
Mima..your ring sounds nice and hope your new renter doesn't make cause a problem for you. What kind of dissability does she have?
Joanne...you have a building in your back yard you can fix up and rent out to live in. You must have a very big back yard!

Welcome mdeyoung- WW is a really good program.. Commitment is the word, but, I feel sure you know that.. I rejoimed after many trys and lost 57 lbs. For the past three years I have been trying to lose a little more.Either my body or my bent elbow has gotten in the way. I am maintaining.
Candice. I don't have that big a back yard...My property is 175 deep by 120 wide. Big enough and sometimes too big.I will never let anyone live back there. I like my privacy too much.
I have a Dr. appt. today. I think I am going to ask him to inject my shoulder. This pain has gone on too long. Otherwise I can't remember why I was to followup.. I think they have to bring us back every three months to keep their bank accounts stable.

Well, it is still cold here. It is supposed to be only 16 above again today. With a cold wind from the north. Spring just can't seem to make it here and stay!!!! I am really sick of the snow now and am more than ready to head toward summer.
Meme - Don't you have a tax free exemption. In Canada, we can earn up to $6500.00 I believe without paying tax. Glad your headache is gone. I saw on TV the other night, about surgery they can do for migraines. It is Plastic Surgeon that does it. Depending on where the pain comes from (forhead, back of head, or side) they cut a nerve. Took care of the headache. I have the phone number someplace. If you or Ally are interested, I can find it for you. It is something brand new.
Candice - I am sort of like you. I don't know that I am hurting all that bad, until I hurt worse than other days  Your body just gets used to a certain pain level, I think.
Joanne - I am with you. Don't want to put up with anyone else living in my space. Never wanted renters. I would be a terrible landlord, mainly because I am not interested in it at all. Hope the Dr. gives you a shot, and that it works.
Ally - I am glad that the 5HTP works for you. Never did do much for me, but then I believe that the pain I have is more from arthritis than FM. Sometimes that old FM kicks in and lets me know it is REALLY there, but mostly is it localized in my lower back, hip and legs. The FM seems to affect my arms, ribs and upperback, but not always - thank goodness.
Mima - Your ring sounds beautiful. Gee, not so long now. What date was the wedding again?
Meshel - Welcome. Come join in.
I have to go to ww today, and I think I was terribly bad (again). Last week I had gained a pound, all because of my birthday, and a babyshower, and of course, the BIGGIE - no will power:lol: This week it was Easter, and I was doing ok, until I got myself into those silly mini eggs. Oh, well, it is a setback, but not life threatening, and I will go forward from here.
SORRY CANDICE, for writing another book!

It's so nice to find a group of other Fibromyalgia folks who are trying to lose weight :^:
I've been on WW since January and am down 17 pounds. Have 88 more to lose to reach goal weight.
Exercise is not a valid option right now, so controlling my food intake is what I'm focused on.
A little about me: I'm a 47 y.o. female with Fibromyalgia and Myfascial Syndrome. Have other assorted things like degenerative joint disease and fun stuff like that. Have 3 grown kids, 3 grandkids, and another on the way (due any time!).
I've gone back to college to finish my BA ... majoring in religious studies and minoring in photography. Interesting combo, I know! :D
Have a wonderful day, and I'll be back soon!

Thank you all so much for the warm welcomes!
The easiest way to differentiate between FMS and MPS (myofascial pain syndrome) is that FMS mainly affects the muscles, ligaments, and tendons, whereas the MPS affects the nerves. MPS is very common among us fibromites, but few doctors know how to diagnose it correctly. Here is a good website if you wish to learn more:
http://www.sover.net/~devstar/
Devin is a physician who also suffers from FMS and MPS. She is also a best-selling author on the subjects. :-)

Welcome Cathy. Hope you come join us. Good for you Cathy, on your weightloss. Wonder feeling isn't it. It is so hard to do with FM, etc. I have arthritis in my back and FM and find it hard to exercise as well. I was doing really well up until the end of January, and then we were involved in an accident (rear-ended) and I now have my back (fragile to begin with) back at square one. My arm is also not doing so great, and my neck and shoulders now give me problems that I didn't have before. So, right now exercise seems limited. If spring ever came, I would get out and walk, but it is still very cold for this time of year. I live in Western Canada.
Well ladies, I went through Easter and I LOST 1.2 pounds. I can't BELIEVE it because I was SO,SO bad. I ate easter eggs and had Easter dinner. I am so happy (even though I know I don't deserve it because I was so bad) I am back on track again and hope to do better. That is now 10 pounds gone.
Meshell, thanks for the website. I think I am off to do some reading there. I do have her first book, but not the last one.

Thanks for the welcome!
The exercise issue is a tough one ... the rheumatologist has said I can do the Arthritis Foundation's warm water exercise program, but finding one that isn't held at 10 a.m. while I'm at work is nigh on to impossible. I've called everyone that's listed as offering it, and nothing is in the realm of my reality (whine, whine, moan, moan).
I'm travelling this May to France for 16 days, and really need to get some of these pounds off before I try to lug my body around Paris and the South of France. I've purchased walking shoes, and the goal is to start walking ... slowly. I have two granddaughters who live with me, so they'll be my walking buddies (and just about the right speed!) That is, of course, when it warms up. Our weather seems all confused. On Monday it was almost 70, and today it's in the 30s ... with hard freezes tonight. It *should* be spring here now!
Wish me luck!!! :jig:

Cathy, that sounds absolutely wonderful. What an incentive to lose weight for. Good going. I wish you the best. Later I will post the recipe from today. 4 point sloppy joes. Sounds really good. You know, in Canada, we can't get a lot of the weightwatchers products. You are supposed to use ww hamburger buns, but I don't think we have them, but we do have the bread, so maybe.
anyway, I am back to post this site. It is a lot of fun - nostalgic.

Hi Cathy and Meshell.....
I have the Myofacial pain book also. There are so many common factors amongst these disorders. This is the best winter I have had since I got this. However, we have snow today and it is really heavy and wet. So I start aching. And the migraine is gone but I still feel like I could eat a whole Turkey. And Turkey is the key cause that is tryptophan. Actually, while I wouldn't mind a turkey dinner...I have been eating the Easter candy. Naughty naughty.
Old boyfriend just called and asked me out to a movie. He fell off a roof about a month and a half ago and broke ribs, crushed a vertebrae. I went to see him while he was in the hospital. This rekindled my need to nurture and fuss. Well, now I don't know what I want from him. And with all those broken bones....don't know what I can get :o
What movie should we see?????
MemeToo
04-03-2002, 08:32 PM
I want to see Clockstoppers. It sounds like my kind of movie. Hubby said he take me to see it but I'm not going anywhere until I stop this coughing! There are a lot of good movies on right now. Go to http://movies.go.com/ and pick out one!
Welcome to Meschell and Cathy. I'm going to check out the site on Myofacial Pain...used to know what that was about 100 years ago! I'm in a fibrofog this week. I hurt so bad from coughing...my ribs and sides are killing me!
Hey Anne...Candice will be gunning for you...you wrote TWO books!!! :p It has gotten cold here again, too. I'm sick of this weather. Wish it would change and then maybe when it finally does I'll feel a little better. Coming home from Michigan last week we went from freezing cold and a blizzard to 78 degrees and sunshine in less than 4 hours. Crazy...I think that is why I got so sick! It is cold here one day and 70 degrees the next. I have to go check the temp. on TV before I go out every day to see if I'm going to need a coat, a sweater or neither!
I don't think I want anybody cutting on the nerves in my head! Thanks anyway!!! (I already have enough problems up there without adding more!!!)
Going to go check out those sites you all posted while I eat my dinner and watch Wheel of Fortune. (I'm one of those types...can't just do one thing at a time!)

I think here we have *too many* WW choices !!! I do buy their "SmartOnes" to take to work for lunch frequently. As far as bread goes, I purchase a brand called Carbolife ... it's good, especially the wheat and the italian. They make buns, also. I eat veggie burgers frequently, so the buns are handy to have in the freezer.
I've been reading notes, and see that lots of migraines are going around. I've been so fortunate the last few months to not have one. :dizzy:
My FM has not been so very bad this winter. I've been on new meds for the past six months or so, and it has made a tremendous difference. For the first time in about 30 years I actually am able to sleep at night.
Friday I go for Neuropsychological testing. My memory has been so horrible lately, and seems to be slipping more and more. I'm a little bit nervous about it... well, more about the results than the testing. For a while I chalked it up to fibrofog, but I've been getting lost, losing my car in parking lots, forgetting how to operate things, etc etc.
Anyway, that's my world today.

Happy-- Very Good with the weight loss. I think that even though we eat a little wrong at special times ,WW still has made us aware of our limits. Lately I have been looking for comfort foods at night. Not good!I didn't get to see the Dr. yesterday, just his nurse practitioner. I am not sure she was really there either. It was very hectic. I feel like I wasted three hrs. I have to go back monday.
Ally...Men don't let broken bones or anything stop them...They will take all the nurturing they can get:lol:
Candice..Down here in Fl. a efficiency appartment is one room with a bath. You would be surprised at how many are around.I don't want the bother, even though you can pickup around 300-500 a month for them.
Meme- I hope you went to the Dr. with your cold. So far this year ,I have been lucky.. Too many other things to give me grief.
Mima.. I know you are so busy and your mind is going in every direction.. I hope you are having fun.
MommaCathy- I really like the Boca burgers. They make a nice 4 point sandwich depending on what bread you use. I started buying a sugar free bread.only 50 cal. and more substance. I was finding the 40 cal. was a lot of air.

I found a wonderful new cereal at Costco. It is by Natures Path, it is organic, and it is great. For 3/4 cup, it is cal. 190 fat 2.7 and Fibre 10g. Add 1/2 c milk and that makes it a 4 pt. breakfast, but is is sweetened with sugar cane juice. It may seem like a lot to some of you, but it has so much fibre that it keeps me full until well past lunch. If I am out, I am not hungry. It is called OPTIMUM and it is made in the US. It also has 8g Protein, 500 mg Omega-3's (flax) and Soy isoflavones and blueberries. It has whole wheat bran, puffed Kamut, flaxseeds, barley malt extract, soy, oatbran, freeze-dried blueberries, sea salt, cinnamon, tocopherols (natural vitamin e to enhance flavor)
So much for cereal.
Now here is the recipe I got yesterday at the meeting
SLIM SLOPPY JOES Serves 6 - 4pts. per serving
1 pound ground beef (lean or extra lean)
1 c chopped Onion
1/4 c Ketchup
2 TBSP Oat Bran (unprocessed)
1 TBSP Worchestershire sauce
1 TBSP Prepared Mustard
1 TBSP Lemon Jice
1 80z can Tomato Sauce (no salt added)
6 r/c Hamburger buns, split and toasted
Brown beef and onion. Drain or rinse when cooked.
Stir in Ketchup and next 5 ingredients into meat mixture. Bring to boil - cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Spoon over bottom half of bun and cover with top.

Candice -- I live near the Zoo, and work at Webster University. If you were in Kirkwood, you know where that is!

MommaCathy- I eat the Boca burgers a lot of the time. I have doubts about the can sloppy joe sauce. Those canned products are usually loaded with salt and sometimes more fat than we want. But then all people probably don't have to watch those things like I do. It does make dull eating sometimes. I use a lot of spices instead.
Happy- I am going to look for Natures Path at the grocery store. Ofcourse we can't always get the same products down here .I too like to start the day with a healthy cereal. We are in the 70's today and then it is supposed to get into the 80's. I guess summer will be here in a hurry.
Mima- The one thing you don't need is ex-girlfriends. What bad news they can be!!!I would be tempted to clip her right out of your lives. It is strange how ex's show up at just the worst times.Like they plan it...

My back got to hurting this morning about 4 a.m. so I slid down and layed down for the last 3 hrs. of sleep and only had one "spell" of coughing so I'm getting a little better...FINALLY!!! My whole body aches...especially my ribs and sides.
Well Hey to you, too, Cathy! Cookeville is a great place to live. Actually...I live a little ways out...about 8 miles west...a couple of miles from Baxter about a mile south of I40. I didn't like the country when we first moved here from MI but I wouldn't go back for anything now! We went for a visit a week ago and I was glad to get back home to my open fields and blue skys!
I cleaned my daugher's house today then came home and moved furniture and cleaned my living room. Then I went to WalMart and got my groceries and came home and put them all away. I'm so sore I can barely move with all that and the coughing, too! Going to bed...

Mima.... the hard part about relationships is all the baggage people carry. You sound level leaded about this but I would not want that call asking for an apology. I would also want this woman to disappear. Hope she isn't a bother.
Ex boyfriend is the same as ever. Lots of good intentions but no concept of time. Even though I thought maybe he would be showing off and trying harder, I made a lasagna in case we didn't make it to the movies and out to dinner. & whatever is on both your minds is the furthest thing from MINE! The cold has slowed me down IN SOME THINGS! :D
I slept in this morning...finally...I get to actually LAY DOWN AND SLEEP! I stopped coughing (mostly) sometime in the wee hours of the morning and was sleeping soooo good. Then between 9:30 and 10 my son calls. I didn't answer the phone...let the machine get it. 30 minutes later he calls back...says his septic is backed up and they need to wash a couple of loads of clothes. I said come on over. Well...I got up and got dressed. He asked me if I needed to do any washing and I said yes but I'd wait until they got through. (I had 6 loads plus one already in the machine, hubby had put his sheets in before he left this morning). Well...d-i-l came over and brought one load, come to find out, she had a load in at my daughter's and one at hubby's mothers, too!!! She knew I needed to wash yet she left her last load...about 1:30...in the machine and took off shopping and didn't even tell me she was going! I called her house, called my daughter's house, called my m-i-l and she told me they were all gone to town! I finally went down and took her clothes out of the washer and put in a load of mine. Went to put them in the dryer and SHE HAD THAT FULL, TOO!!! AND THERE WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH HER DRYER! I asked hubby if we could just move away from here...far, far away! My mom went off on me again today...about church among other things today. She doesn't like the church we are going to. I told her to go somewhere else, then. I'm so sick of everybody around here acting like I should do every thing they want and have NO LIFE or will of my own!!!!!!!
Mima...I guess if your neighbor were mine and were to come knocking on my door today I'd have to tell her to get lost...FOREVER!

Meme...that daughter in law of yours is a piece of work. My kids do that with the wash. I will have a whole pile of laundry in my arms and then find out the washer is full and the dryer as well. So I have to fold laundry and then move what is in the washer to the dryer and then fold that too so I can dry my own. But someday I will be sending my kids off to a daughter in law. You inherited one.

My Uncle died last night. Looks like I'm up for another trip...to NC this time so it isn't so far away. Hubby says he is going with me. My family is so weird. My cousin (uncle's daughter) lives in Virginia and her brother is in FL. Well...she can't get to NC until at least Wednesday and maybe Thursday and he can't leave a house he just bought because he is having plumbing problems. If my Dad had just died I'd be getting my butt to NC to be with my mom...(and my mom is a pretty sorry mom to boot)!!!!!!! And the cousin that lives in VA has a daughter in NY...she is flying first to VA and then coming on to NC. Weird, weird weird! The more I learn about my family the more I think I must've been adopted!
I, too, went to the Dr. today and she told me I was sicker than I thought I was...besides the cold and cough from **** I've had for 2 weeks that I thought was gone but is coming back with a vengeance, I now have one ear that is infected and another one that is almost infected and both are bulging (whatever that means) and that's why I'm so dizzy (I said dizzy, not ditzy)...but...she said...QUOTE: "The good news is, it's all in your head!!!!!!!" (I'm hoping she meant it was good news that it hadn't gone to my lungs yet!)

I thought I was never going to get logged on...kept saying I needed to either open or save the message board on my computer...weird.
My family is so odd! My uncle died on Sunday but they are not going to have the funeral until Friday! They are only "receiving friends" from 10:30 to 11 on Friday morning and the funeral is at 11. I'm not going. I'm just too sick. I'm glad I got to see him in November when I was there! He was in the rest home then but he knew me and we got to talk for awhile.
I'm not getting better fast! Didn't work today and I had promised to play for a revival but had to cancel that, too. I have coughed for over 2 weeks now and my body feels like it has been run over by a Mac truck, carrying a house, dragging a tank behind it! I had a day planned with my 4 yr old granddaughter, Kaylyn, tomorrow...we were going to 'do lunch' ...but I had to cancel that, too. I just feel so rotton! I'm sure she doesn't understand that but she'll just have to get over it! I promised her we would do it next week! It is hard to fit in 'one-on-one' time with FOUR grandchildren but I enjoy having them alone and they enjoy getting me all by myself, too. They each one look forward to their 'day with Meme'...they fight over who's turn it is. Kaylyn's 6 yr. old brother was taunting her last Sunday saying, "Meme's picking me up from school tomorrow and I'm going to get to go home with her." So Kaylyn stuck her tongue out at him and said "so...I'm having lunch with Meme on Thursday! So there!" They are just too funny!!!
I've just got 36 days (counting down) 'till I have my first weekend away...all by myself...can't wait! I'm counting the days and hours! I've booked a suite in Nashville for the first weekend and another in Asheville for the next weekend...both at Spring Hills Marriott (I'm in their rewards program). 2 rooms, frig, microwave, computer hookup, 2 phones, 2 TVs, cable w/movies, indoor heated pool and spa...HEAVEN!!!
Mima...when is the big day...I forgot! I gotta go to bed...seems like all I do is go to bed or lay on the couch! I started to lay down yesterday morning...I have Ross for about 3 hrs. in the morning and then I take him to school...he said, "Meme, why are you laying down?" I said, "Am I not supposed to lay down?" He said, "Well, you shouldn't 'cause you'll just start coughing and have to get right back up again!" Guess that's why I'm so tired all the time!

Meme..you are really having a time with that cough! Get better will ya!:) Looks like ya got logged in!
I had to have my bi-annual endoscopy of the upper GI this week and the nurse called me a tiny thing! I have never been referred to as that before!!!!!!!!!!! I see the doc in two weeks for the results..... DH couldn't remember anything except there is still inflamation! Men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They had to give me extra veriset(sp) to knock me out and I had a reaction to it but nothing serious they said....I don't remember...................My IV vein turned red and my face flushed with a racing heart reat! Glad it's over!

I can't believe it is already Thursday. My goodness, the days are whipping by. Mima, before you know it, you will be married for months:lol: Try to take things slower. You can always fix the house up AFTER you are married. You have to leave something to do for then.
Meme - I wish they could get you feeling better. Do you think it is allergies? I know the kids love to spend special time with Grandma. Ashley turned 4 last week, and we were in Edmonton for her birthday on the weekend. That time has gone so fast.
That sounds like a nice, quiet, restful little getaway. Heaven knows you need that! I am sorry to hear about your uncle, and you have made the right decision to NOT go to the funeral, when you are so ill.
Candice - That is what they told me when I had back surgery. My goodness, it is a shock to hear that, but nontheless pleasant. I wish someone would say that now:lol Why do they do that endoscopy? Is that where they put the tube down?
Joanne - Hi. I haven't been anywhere. I was trying to give up coffee and on Tuesday ended up with a terrible headache, had to take some meds, and drink some coffee. I hate headaches with a passion. I have only been drinking a 1/2 a cup of coffee in the morning and a 1/2 a cup at night, but it sure does a number on me when I try to quit. Oh well, it ain't over yet:lol
Ally - Glad you had a good weekend. Hope you get a little fun and get to go out and spend his money. Now that is fun!
Spring has FINALLY arrived here. Today it will be in the 50's and by Saturday, into the 60's . It is so nice to feel that nice warm sun beating down on you.
Everyone have a great day.

I am finally taking it easier-only did a little bit and went to the mall to pick up my ring-it's gorgeous-and buy curtains. i found perfect ones for the kitchen and nice for the bedroom-when we paint it later it will be better. right now it's tickle pink. It's been really nice out here. Spring has sprung. Brad is off to work-I am working for 9 days at the end of May but not all together. I will be happy to see my friends. My son is working at the nuclear power plant in Seabrook nh temporarily-he has been laid off since Feb. 24 years ago i was in the hospital giving birth to my daughter. Right about this time. Condo meeting tonight. Meme-hope you are getting better. Hi to everyone. Mima

Happy- Nice to hear from you..I tried to give up coffee too. I slowly exchanged from caffein to decaf until I was only drinking decaf.. well after awhile of that ,I said, to heck with it..Now I am drinking my coffee again. I told my hubby what the Dr. doesn't know won't hurt him...I only drink it in the morning.. Without it I would be a zombie all day. I was 11 yrs. old when I started drinking coffee..I think that after a certain age, I refuse to give up the few things I like. It has been in the 80's here. What Spring there was is already summer here.
Mima- Nice you are slowing down.. now you will be able to enjoy these few days before your wedding..
Hello Ally, Meme..
Candice ..sounds like you had a real reaction to medication. Little thing huh.. I look forward to someone thinking I am a little thing.. I wt.in at 153 this a.m. Not too little. I have gotten off my eating plan lately,so ,I will try to be more careful. I have made myself a bunch of new clothes and given away all my fat clothes. This can get expensive!!
Bye You All..Joanne
