I gave it a try today. I had it without mayo but with ketchup and mustard and pickles, lettuce and tomato. I liked it. I know many vegetarians and vegans are asking for theirs to be microwaved, but I had mine broiled. Not as large a patty as a whopper but it was filling and fine tasting. I am trying to give up red meat and most meat so it came at a perfect time.

Wonderful article about the beef industry in the new york times magazine. You need an id to view it but the id is free and they do not spam you. It is very well written and worth your while to sign up if haven't and read it.

I like it too! I am a vegetarian though so I always get veggie burgers at resturants. I had mine grilled too. Next time I will ask for onions and pickles to help jazz it up. I saw on my local news station that even meat eaters really like it.
Give it a try everyone!!

Yes I am a carnivore but I really do like veggie burgers too. They are delicious and easy to make. They don't taste like beef but if you keep that in mind instead of expecting it to taste like a real burger you can realy learn to enjoy them. I get a good deal on them by the case at Sam's Club.

Does anyone know the calorie count, fat content etc. on the BK veggie burger?

asta-I dont know the exact number but I am sure it's on the www.burgerking.com website. I think it is 300 calories and 10 grams of fat (most of that is the "lite" mayo) which can be requested w/o it. Just add ketchup and mustard and you wont miss it. I saw on TV that they plan on keeping it on their menu to keep the vegetarians/health concious people coming in. They have pretty much done all they can do with burgers and chicken and fish, huh?? ;)

Is it just me or does BK not post nutritional information on their website? I can't seem to find it anywhere!

and you're right, as far as nutritional info is concerned, it sux :?:

However, I did do a bit of research and found this AP article:
The company that made flame-broiled hamburgers famous is showing off its veggie side.

Burger King unveiled the BK Veggie on Monday, hoping to provide a meatless alternative to the Whopper and other fast-food fare.

The flame-broiled, soy-free patty offers a blend of vegetables, grains and spices on a sesame seed bun. Topped with reduced fat mayonnaise, lettuce and tomatoes, the burger provides a leaner fast-food alternative — only 10 grams of fat and 330 calories. A Whopper has 39 grams of fat and 680 calories.

The veggie burger debuted at all 8,500 Burger King restaurants in the United States on Monday. It has been available for some time in Canada and other countries.

The company said the burger is being marketed as a meatless alternative and not as a vegan product. The mayonnaise contains eggs and the sesame seed bun includes natural and artificial butter flavoring, which could be taboo for some vegetarians.

Vegans are more strict than vegetarians, forgoing any animal product, including dairy products, eggs or honey.

Personally I have never eaten at BK in my life. I'm not a vegetarian at the moment but was one for 8 years. If BK isn't cooking the veggie burgers separately from the meat products, many vegetarians will NOT order it. Since it's 'soy-free' I'm curious as to what the primary ingredient of the patty is. I'd also be interested in the sodium and fiber content.

Personally - I wouldn't call it a 'health-food' product - but at least it's an alternative option...

BK supposedly gave out instructions to franchise owners instructing them how to microwave the veggie burger thus not having it prepared on the same grill as the meat burgers.

The BK website use to have nutritional information up, I did find somewhere on it that it said the information was 'coming soon'. But I know for a fact that it use to be up.

Having it without mayo would reduce the fat to around 7grams. The patty is made of grains and vegetables which I know is still very vague.

Aha! So it's a Gardenburger - or something akin to it.

I read on another post on this site that the new BK veggie burger is five points. Some may like it I did not. It was not left on the grill long enough and was bland. I rather have the wopper jr. no mayo for seven points. It has more flavor. But I think it's great they are offering it.

I tried one last night, not great, but OK in a pinch.

On the whole, not enough flavor or satisfaction for the calories.

Thanks for the info puggiegirl! I knew the calorie count but wasnt sure on the point value. I had another one today. I love them but I am a veggie girl!
I hope everyone who is a vegetarian or not will try this BK Veggie. If it suceeds at BK, then you know healthier vegetarian fare will show up soon at Wendy's and Mc Donalds, etc...

Where are these veggie burgers? We don't have that on the menu here in MN. Atleast I don't think. Haven't actually looked too hard for one!

We have had them in the UK since at least Christmas. I think they are really tasty. I don't like McDonalds veggie burgers at all though, they have a funny taste.
