Weight Loss Support - Calling All Earthlings: Earth Day Challenge

In honor of this lovely blue-green planet we call home, I'm being especially kind to myself for the three-week period leading from Easter to Earth Day. As a daughter of the earth, I'm planning on eating well, exercising moderately and thinking only thoughts of peace, joy and harmony. Those are my only behavioral rules, but I'm also challenging myself to lose six pounds from where I am now ... the better to fit into my Earth Day jeans! :D It's a lot for three weeks, but I like round numbers better than the 1.66 pounds per week that would make up a 5-pound loss. As always, I won't post my exact weight, only poundages up and down!

Any other earthlings wanting to ante? Here's a list:

Crone有ose 6, 6 to go

I'm with you on this challenge. My promise to myself, and to everyone else on this earth, is to control my portions, drink that water, keep active, and stay in a positive frame of mind. It is totally up to me!!! I can't blame anyone else if I fail to behave.

Our challenge listing to date:
Crone有ose 6, 6 to go
sheila-Lose 8, 8 to go
JoJoJo- Maintain

Per Angel-Eyes' instructions, here's an update; I put it in alphabetical order because I'm obsessive and bored, hope no one minds:

Angel-Eyes有ose 5, 5 to go
Crone有ose 6, 6 to go
JoJoJo柚aintain
Sheila有ose 8, 8 to go

FYI: Sheila is The Earthling Exceeder of Her Easter Goal! :)

JoJoJo2: It's inspiring to see you maintain so consistently; it is very hard to do but it's ultimately the reason for all of this. You are right: "If it's to be, it's up to me!" I'm not sure who first coined that little rhyme, but it's one of my favorite motivators.

Peace, Earthlings!

Good morning girls!!!

Happy April Fool's Day!!!

No jokes for me today....just an honest pledge of 5lbs between now and the end of our earth day challenge. I managed to take off a mere 1lb for the last challenge but anything is better than nothing right....!!!

I won't be on much this week as I have to get things in order for Thursday....I have to leave for the hospital with Kail as he has his adnoids out and tubes put in his ears Friday morning....then I also just found out on Friday that Jesse's adnoids are enlarged also so he will have to go in to have them removed as well.....he snores really bad and had NUMEROUS sinus/ear infections from birth till now....plus we will be moving soon I hope....we found a house and the paperwork process has begun....but I will check in and update any info......good luck to you all......Congrats to the losers and those who either reached or came close to making their mini goal challenge....SHEILA...way to go......Crone...good for you on that 7lb loss....and Angel...I know you cant read this right now...but KUDOS to you for your loss as well!!!

Good morning everyone! Thought I would post in a row again so we could get bumped up closer to the top.....hate to see us fall close to the bottom of the stockpile!!!

How did everyone do yesterday? I did OK except for the bowl of Ben&Jerrys ice cream I ate after dinner....but like we always say....clear the slate and start fresh today right!!! I hate it when TOM gets within a week of appearing because I get a major sweet tooth and last night it struck hard!!!

It looks like it might be a somewhat nice mild day here in Massachusetts so maybe I can get outside with Kail. I hate keeping him all cooped up in this place but the other problem is that there are SOO many dogs in our little development(landlord has 3, 4 neighbors have dogs) that the lawns have poo all over them and I DON'T need Kail falling in it!!! But maybe we can venture down to the walking path!!!

Hope you all have a great day!!! Take care....LisaL

good morning everyone :p

Hope everyones having a good day, I'm taking a planned day off today to go out for my birthday. Why anyone would want to celebrate being another year older is beyond me, but it means i get to spend time alone with my dh. ;)

anyways I had a really long weight workout and rode my bike for a half hour yesterday. So, I feel pretty good about taking a cheat day after all that work. (especially the weights, WOW-that hurts when I do that). :dizzy:

anyways, hope everyone has a great day!! :s:

bye:wave:

Good morning, Slender Earthlings! Everyone seems to be having a good day already, as am I. Finished yesterday with 1790 calories, exercise was my hike but I didn't count the time ... hours! Very nice and dinner out with a friend who likes to eat moderately so that was some grilled chicken, rice and salad. I have done 30 minutes of weights this a.m.

Happy Birthday, Sheila! Hope you enjoy your "day off" and eat a big piece of cake.

Momto2: I live in Arizona ... used to be far out on the desert but moved more in town awhile back. It's harder to find the desert nowadays but it's still out there, thank goodness! I have never been to Massachusetts, but it sounds lovely in the fall and spring, though too cold for me.. Hope you enjoy your walk.

Crone....I have never been out west....but would love to someday when the boys are bigger and better at traveling or better at being left with grammie....ha ha....We always want to go to Vegas.....and right now its too much to travel with the 2 boys.....one who is asking..."are we there yet?" only 5 minutes into the ride.....and the other who screams the whole time in the car unless he is sleeping....which isnt that often......!!!...Glad to hear you had a wonderful hike and a nice dinner with your friend!!!

Take care all......LisaL

Hey girls...where have you all disappeared to? Have you gone and left me all alone??? HA HA.....well I thought I would post now as I might not get to it in the morning....but tomorrow I leave for the hospital with Kail for his hearing test and then staying close by for his surgery the following morning......I am a bit scared but I am hoping it will work out for the best and reduce his ear/sinus infections etc......Just wish Jesse didnt have to go thru it as well but he will in a few weeks and I hope to see a change in him as well.

Hope you all have a great weekend and I will post tomorrow if I get a chance...if not I will post when I get home from hospital Saturday with Kail and let you all know how he is doing.....take care all....LisaL

Wonder if Angel and boys are enjoying their vacation....hope she is having a great time and feeling good !!!

Hello, Earthling Ladies! I am having a "day off" from calorie counting ... but not bingeing yet. Exercise was an hour of walking in desert and a 20-minute walk around neighborhood. Slept all afternoon until awakened by a small boy pounding on my door ... loud enough to shake the house! He wanted to mow my lawn ... his little brother was waiting in the driveway with a small hand mower ... since my "lawn" consists of rocks, cactus and scrubby Bermuda grass that can only be tamed with a weedeater, I declined. They're going to have a very hard time in this neighborhood, since there are only one or two "grass" lawns, but you have to admire their enterprise.

Momto2: Thanks for bumping up this thread. I'd hate to see it fade into the limbo of lost challenges! I know your little boy will sail through his operation with flying colors, though it's scary for him and you, too. Good luck.

P.S. You will love Vegas!

Maybe Joanie and/or Morrigan will do a drive-by post soon to let us know how they are! :)

Hey girls...how ya all doing? I am getting ready to head out for the hospital where Kail will have his surgery tomorrow and its about an hour and half drive for us...I could have had it done locally but they couldnt even see him until the end of the month and my sister works for the doctor who is doing the surgery so I feel very comfortable with the whole thing.

I am however disappointed that thru all this hectic stuff going on around here with the kids and then this house buying stuff....I have gained a couple pounds but that just makes me more determined to get refocused again and back on track.....I will post again when I am home from hospital....you all have a great weekend and enjoy yourselves.....Take care...>LisaL

Hi Crone and all! Is it too late for me to get in on this challenge? I'd like to declare that I'd like to drop a reasonable 4 pounds by Earth Day! :)

Anybody goosing things up a bit to get there? I've decided that since I have a great video library of yoga, Pilates, etc.--I'm going to do a tape 3-4 times a week in addition to the stuff I already do. Kind of treat it like a class, you know?

Amarantha2

No colors, as I'm having a terrible time typing on here right now. Must be busy. Also having a terrible time not bingeing, with calories up somewhat to 2310. Have walked but still have hopes for Thursday weight workout, though I don't really feel vigorous at the moment.

Earthling Eydie: Welcome! It's never too late for anything and your four pounds is indeed a reasonable figure! :) I think it's a neat idea to add a video to your regular workout 3-4 days a week (only hope you don't overtrain) ... I'd like to join you on that challenge ... I'm still on two easy workouts per day at the moment, so I've decided to ADD an easy video three days a week up until Earth Day. That will translate to a short Leslie Sansone tape today, Friday and Saturday, just for fun ... I need to use these again as I have something like 23 of them from all decades including the latest.

Why is it on my days off I'm less inclined to work out? I do it, but I procrastinate. So right now I'm going to do something revolutionary and stir these old bones to just do it! And then I can be a glorious slug for the rest of the day instead of having my workout hang over my head.

Here's my workout plan for the day: yoga video, 100 crunches, 30 min. step video.
Anybody else want to share their plans?:)

Hello, Earthlings! This is a negative post. I'm struggling with a daylong mini-binge involving some dulce de leche flavored milk in little plastic bottles. I'm also just too blah to exercise tonight, so there goes the mini-video challenge. Did only 10 minutes of weights only this a.m. ... knee and wrist still hurt from fall and I'm just not getting anywhere ... on top of that, I cannot imagine what the milk company is thinking of ... dulce de leche, indeed!

Negativity aside, I plan to hop back on my plan tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. No work scheduled, so I plan to hike. That's usually my salvation.

Eydie: How did your workout plan go? Your agenda is ambitious, so even if you only do half that much, you'll be in great shape. ;)

Good Morning!:)

I never got around to doing yoga yesterday--the day turned out to be a bit fuller than I thought, but productive so I can't complain! [Did the step aerobics and crunches though.]
I'm trying to keep my calories around 1500 calories and you know, that's not easy. I'm averaging 1650 and that's not bad at all.
It's suddenly cold again here and since I've gotten a little spoiled with the warm weather I think I'm going to find something trashy to watch on TV and walk on the treadmill. First I'm going to do a yoga video. [I love Rodney Yee--such a good teacher, not to mention easy on the eyes! ]

Crone, dulce de leche-flavored milk sounds hard to resist. There's just some things I can't have around! I find that lately my thoughts are turning to Italian cream cake and I'm wondering what it would be like to buy a slice and eat it happily and then immediately go back to counting calories. My view of "treats" is so warped that it's been all-or-nothing, and I know it's 'healthy' to have an occasional indulgence. So when I feel ready, I'm going to try it as one of my bold experiences! [But just a slice, not the whole cake!;) ]

Why is it, my friends, that when we crave something it is some dulce de leche flavored milk in little plastic bottles or Italian cream cake or something else that is wonderful tasting.

Goodness, has anyone ever craved carrot sticks? Has anyone ever waked up in the middle of the night with a full-blown desire to raid the fridge for some celery sticks and a lettuce leaf?

Unfortunately we have taste buds, and we are all too human, and we desire what tastes good but really isn't all that 'good' for us. What to do, what to do? Just keep struggling, I guess.

Have a good day

Hello, Earthlings! Typing in black-and-white again; that's a bad sign for me but soon I hope to bring back the color in my life, not to mention my typography. :)

No workout today yet, can't get going. We'll see in a bit. Eydie it sounds as if you did very well indeed without the yoga. I'm going to try for Pilates as my p.m. exercise, but Saturday hiking is out as it's already too warm, though it's a cool day. A slice of cream cake does sound in order, as long as you don't bring the whole cake home! That's where the trouble starts for me ... if I bring it home, I'm doomed. One trick I've used is to "box off" a "controlled splurge" ... basically I eat it and ignore it. This is at odds with my philosophy of journaling every calorie, but it's a trick to keep me from eating one slice and then going on to binge for three weeks. The controlled splurge calories are put into a special mental box where they cease to trouble me, but if I journal them and add them into my spreadsheet, they mitigate against good order and cause a collapse of my orderly world.

Definitely, eat some cake! :)

JoJoJo2: I can tell you that I have NEVER craved a carrot ... carrot cake, now, that's another story. :)

Have a wonderful Saturday, everyone! Peace.

Hey girls....just a quick hello and letting you know I am back home now with Kail.....his surgery went good and it took a bit longer than scheduled but he came thru fine....a bit groggy and fussy and then fussy a little while after the drugs wore off from the pain so they gave him some meds thru the night....but he slept from 9pm-6am with all that stuff going on.....I am completely exhausted which is why I wont be on long.....I am in serious need of flopping on the couch and snoozing......but I have to wait till after I make dinner.....now to think I have to go thru the same old stuff with Jesse within a month...YUCK...at least with Jesse I can bring him home the same day and not have to be cooped up in a the darn hospital...but they were wonderful...they brought in a tv/vcr cart for Kail with loads of kids movies....so that was nice.....but anyhoot....gotta go and glad to see your all still kicking......Take care....LisaL

MomTo2--Glad everyone's home and I'm sending you rejuvenating energy!

JoJoJo2--yes, I can say that most of the time I crave foods that are good for me but sometimes it's 'Katie bar the door!' And last night was like that!!! I just couldn't get that cake out of my mind, so we live in the middle of nowhere, and my husband, ministering angel that he is, drove with me 1/2 hour to get this magical cake. And it's what I had for dinner so I could stay within my calorie budget, and we made an occasion out of it! I must say that by the last few bites I was feeling a little nauseous but I soldiered on! Anyway, that was fun but I don't have to do it again for awhile.
Here's my thing: whenever I have a splurge like that, I ususally feel incredibly guilty, which negates any pleasure I could get from the treat and leads to negative thinking about myself that leads to binging. That's the ususal pattern and I want to stop it.
So far so good this time--there's something to be said for a conscious indulgence. Today will be a test for me because I have to prepare a reception today-the first one I've had to do since I started counting calories so wish me luck!
Have a healthy day, everybody!
:)

Hi Everyone. I've just spent awhile getting caught up.....so many posts to read. So nice to see everyone again.

I just returned from a weeks holidays on the coast of Georgia. It was absolutely gorgeous!!! And yes, even though I used spf 45....I still got a really bad burn. Easter came and went terribly, I couldn't keep out of the bunnies but the next day, I left for the week and left those darn things behind. Even the boys, have forgotten about them, (I must toss them out or I'll be nibbling them again) I tried my best to stay on points, but at times I know I went over. Today is my first day back to journaling, and so far so good. Glad to be back!!

Mom....so good to hear that the surgery went well, now for number 2 son. And congratulations on your new house!!! YEAH...no more nasty landlord!!! When do you move? when is the closing date? A packing we will go....a packing we will go.....good luck!!
