Good Tuesday Morning.

To all the inquiring minds...Happy, Michelle, Shad, Madcat..Cornhole is two wooden boxes with a hole on the top, spaced 25 feet apart that you throw bean bags in.. It is really big here in the sticks. Where the corn part came from I do not know.

Happy I love the butterfly story. I collect butterfly stuff.

Michelle...good luck with therapy.

Not much going on here, just busy at work. High today 75 and NO humidity. Whew who

Hey to everyone.

Love and Hugs

Michelle~ Yep I am a Torontonian by birth and by inclination, so you won’t get a very unbiased opinion from me, but I think Toronto is a great city. It is safe, easy to navigate, and one of the most open and multicultural cities on the planet (even the UN says so). It really just a bunch of distinct neighbourhoods roughly bundled into a city – but that’s what makes it interesting. Lots to do, clean and the people are very accepting of other people’s quirks, need I go on? Yeah, I know the rest of Canada hates us for our smugness, but I can’t really imagine living anywhere else (ok, maybe London or Paris or New York. I’m a city kid). As for how hard it would be to get in, it would really depend on your skill set. I think NAFTA has made getting in from the US a bit easier for some people, but I’m not sure. The few people I know who moved here from the US did so to marry Canadians… and think that’s probably not really an option for the two of you. Shad or Carla might be able to provide a more unbiased view.

Ceejay~ I know how you feel about not wanting to go back to work. It’s the one bad part about having time off, isn’t it?

Happy~ good idea to take that extra day off, but you’d waste it cleaning? How virtuous of you! We’re been paying close to $5 for gas up hear for a while. Your poor kitten. Aren’t you suppose to be in charge of weather? Good news about your ears. Just another fun aspect of being a woman of a certain age (as the French would say).

Shad~ Take care in that grey shadow of the project. It will all work out, you know, cause it always does one way or another. Is it just me or does this project you are on seem somewhat more organized than some of the others you’ve done? BTW the 178 page user guide was not written by me - if was actually from a vendor that we are going to be using. I love reading other people’s docs sometimes. This one was “by the book” but I still hear myself saying, oh I wouldn’t have done that.

Shy~ Hope you have a nice and not smelly trip.

Mel~ You are having a race riot in your building, are you? Yeah, God save us from ignorance, indeed. You would think in this day and age people would know better. Somebody needs their butts kicked – not that ever changes anyone’s mind, but it would be satisfying for the kicker. Keep your head down, honey, and don’t take it personally. Shall we get you a ringmaster’s costume and a whip and chair? Sounds as if they are restless in the circus.

Ok, I have to get back to work. Shuffling between offices. It would be quieter to work at my other office where there are fewer interruptions, but this desk has a computer with two monitors and I’m spoiled. It is so much easier to have the thing I am working on open in one screen and my document in the other. Luxury!!! I’ve been at the gym this morning, but my knee is bugging me. I think it’s just overuse and the cooler morning weather that is aggravating it. I think I’ll take a gym day off tomorrow to recover. See y’all later.

Lunch time check in....

Just went for a 2 mile walk....was probably a bit too long as my back and leg are now sore. I'll do some stretching and hopefully work some of the kinks out.

Happy - I think it is going to take awhile to loosen up all the tightness. Yeooow! If my legs stop spasming, I want to go to the gym tonight to work on the treddie...but if all I can do tonight is stretching, I might as well do that at home. I tend to be a very impatient person....so taking things slow and patiently is difficult for me. But I think my lower body will rebel if I push it too far too fast. I'm so glad that your hearing is normal. I'm noticing that it's becoming more difficult to block out the background noise. I think the other type of alcohol would be a more fun way to treat swimmers ear. I loved your Joey Tribiani immitation (Friends was one of my fave tv shows). Your team social sounds nice. We get a 1/2 day off on Friday for the holiday. But I decided to take a 1/2 day of vacation to get all of Friday off.

Annie - Can I come to the ice cream party? Thanks for explaning what cornhole is. I live out in the sticks too...but the games of choice here are Tailgate Toss, Washers and Ladder Golf. We're having the same gorgeous weather as you...mid 70s, no humidity and cool at night.

Mel - I think you, me and Happy should go out for Chinese food together. What city would be in the middle of the 3 of us? Sorry to hear about the race war in the community room. Why can't people just get along?! I hope it gets resolved quickly and ammicably.

Madcat - Thanks for all your great insight on Toronto. It sounds like a great place to live. Maybe one of these years, DH and I will move across the border.

Well, gotta get back to work.

I hope everyone is having a good day!

Poor Bella. I've heard that tomato juice is good to rid the scent of skunks.

Mel
Glad you are feeling better.

Happy
We got a heavy rain out of Fay. It was weird seeing a storm brewing in the East. I thought about you. I've done the alcohol thing for my ears before. It works well. I've been thinking about doing it again but I have a dr.'s appointment on 9-2-08. My main concern is why do my nose and head get so congested at night.

To all the others a big hello

Hi chicks,

I'm just breezing through this morning. Still having issues with the glucophage so I'm spending more time in the loo and less in front of the computer.

I will try and get back at lunch time.

Quickie report just to say that Hershey definitely has Cushings, the treatable kind. Whew! I am much relieved and am now able to get on with life without constant nagging worry about my darling girl. It'll take a while for her to get back into full furry plumage so I'm posting a picture to remind me of how gorgeous she really is.

Happy Wednesday everyone! And Happy Birthday Ceejay!

I didn't get to the gym last night as my back/legs were sore. But I did do my stretches and felt a bit better. I stretched this morning too...and in an hour or so I'll be going to PT. The company I work for has a "Wellness Center" down the street for employees, complete with a doctor, nurses, lab techs, physical therapy and pharmacy. It's very convenient to go to an appointment during the work day. I really want to go back to the gym ASAP...but my body keeps reminding me that I have to take it slowly. Aaargh. Have I mentioned I'm not a patient person!

Mel - Okay, I get it. I'll take it slowly...no need to threaten me with a smack upside my head. Enjoy your day off and relax.

Happy - I hope your body adjusts to the Glucophage soon so you can spend less time in the loo.

Ruth - Hershey sure is gorgeous! And since her Cushings is treatable, she'll get back to full furriness before too long. Big  to you both.

A big  to Shad, Rennie, Madcat, Annie and everyone else. I hope you are all having a good day.

Gotta get more work done before PT. I'll try and check in later.

Hugs,

Happy Hump Day!!

Happy Happy Birthday to Ceejay!!! I would sing for you but everyone would wonder where all the screeching was coming from.

Michelle...do come to the ice cream party this afternoon. I would love to meet you in person, well I would love to meet all you great ladies in person. The party is at 3:00pm in conference room 2F. See you there. We also play all those games you mentioned here in Hoosier land. Must be a country sticks thing.

Ruth...thank God Hershey is treatable and will get better.

MEL...got rid of the fairy, it was time. I guess I am fairyless.

Madcat...don't work too hard, wow, two offices, that must make you nuts.

Happy...huh, what did you say....hehehehe

Hidee Ho to all I missed.

Love and Hugs

All about me – you can skip to the next post if you like…

Well okey dokey. A yippee and a rant from me today. First the yippee. Yesterday we got our blood glucose testing meters from the program I’m in now. And they gave us the GOOD ones! Actually I was impatient and bought the same one on Sunday. I thought it odd that the one I bought had no supplies to it and I went back on Monday night and complained to the pharmacist as I stocked up. Then I get the same one last night and it’s got a week’s starter supply of the 3 things I should have gotten in the first one! So it’s kind of obvious someone bought it, used it and carefully resealed and returned it. Dirty dogs!!!! But along with our meter we got a copy of our fasting blood test results. My fasting glucose was 85 – NORMAL!!!!! (It’s been reading 99 to 104 at the doctors office which I attribute to the 1 cup of coffee I had in the morning and the wonders of the glucophage even tho it is making me retchedly sick for a few hours practically every morning.). And my cholesterol was 233 at the doctor’s office 2nd week in July and was 191 with a true fasting test. Just enough under 200 to be NORMAL!!!! And I tested my blood sugar 2 hours after I ate a slightly carby Chinese meal and it was 104 – still good. So… I’m not deaf, I’m finally exercising again, my blood work is looking good – what more can a girl ask for?

Now for my rant. We have a new cook in the cafeteria. He also works at a local restaurant and I have to say the quality of the cafeteria food has risen up mucho notches (not to be confused with Buenos noches  ) since Mr. K has come on board. However, at least down in the south here there seems to be a heavy influence of spicy flavors in all the restaurants. My tummy is jazzy enough lately without more speecy spicy in it. So today’s option was Chef Wang’s Sweet and Sour Chicken. Bits of chicken, lots of bright veggies. I asked K if it was spicy. No ‘mam he says. So I get an order. Get back to my desk, take a bite, it is yum yum good. 30 seconds later – FIRE IN THE HOLE!!! OMG – I look at the container and there are bits of red pepper flakes liberally laced all over. So, what party of no ‘mam this isn’t spicy does this apply to???? I debated about walking back to the cafeteria and returning it all but then my only other option would have been a cheeseburger or cream of broccoli soup. So I ate the chicken with a Pepcid chaser. Maybe I should go and get some milk.

Stay tuned, I'm working on the all about you post...

Drat Annie! I've got a meeting at 3 pm, otherwise you know I'd be there.

I just had my 2nd PT session. Oh my! No massage or anything today...(hopefully that will come tomorrow). Today was teaching me how to do a circuit of core/resistance exercises, and she worked me hard. My back didn't get sore...and I did get a workout, which was great. Now if I go to the gym tonight, I'll only need to do cardio because I did more than enough resistance training.

I brought comfy knit shorts to change into - thinking it would be more manipulation. I'm glad I did...I wouldn't have been able to do all those exercises in my work slacks. I just wish I brought a t-shirt...as I perspired a bit - and I have two meetings this afternoon.

Anyway, gotta get some work done.

Talk to you chicks later!

Annie – my durn badge won’t let me into your office. Can you just bring me a plain scoop of vanilla out the back door? Are you on CST or EST time zone? Thanks for explaining corn hole – makes sense. I thought they used dried feed corn as well as dried peas in the burlap for the sacks. Haven’t played that in ages. Have fun!

Michelle – wow that on campus Wellness Center sounds great. It’s convenient AND it keeps you in the office longer not sitting out and about waiting on the docs – think the company factored that into the equation? :s:  Anyway I think it’s a great perk. Geez girl, sounds like you really tied yourself in a knot there. Can you swim for a while or don’t they have a pool at your gym? One way to get the cardio without stressing the back much. I’m sure even the recumbent bike would hurt and you certainly don’t want any unnecessary jostling around. How nice to have a 3 day weekend to look forward to. Make sure you do something enjoyable.

Ruth – I’m sorry to hear about Hershey but at least it’s treatable. She looks so soft.

Hey Mel – wanna play “fill my piehole” with me - :hungry:  Sssshhh don’t tell anyone but there is a vast food wasteland between New York and Chicago. At least I’ve never heard of Cleveland or Philly touted for their exceptional Chinese food. Michelle and I will hop the Amtrak over to you, how’s that? We’ll get her one of those reclining seats so she can be comfy and I’ll just stand with my face pressed against the window ooggling all the cows cuz there isn’t much of anything to see for most of the trip heading east. If we can time this around the New England fall colors, it would be most appreciated. DH is originally from Rhode Island and can you believe we’ve never seen a New England autumn?

Ceejay – hope you are having a great birthday and not working today. If Annie and I both screetch at the same time you are perfectly positioned to hear us in stereo :yikes:

Madcat – the only time I ventured out of the U.S. was when I went to Toronto. Oh wait, I guess Victoria B.C. counts too :o Anyway I agree with you, I was impressed with the city – nice, clean and I felt safe walking around. You get winters but not like Montreal or up there in the sticks by Ruth. And you don’t have to know French to get around  Do you get the pretty fall leaf colors too? Funny that you talk about the dual monitor set up. My cube mate has the same thing and she just loves the 2 monitor deal. I’m holding out for the flat screen, wide aspect, takes up a cube wall monitors

Poor Shad – lost and buried in the training mess. 2 things they never spend enough time on and always trim to meet their implementation deadlines are training and end user reports. I sat through some training myself and while the team was enthusiastic and committed, it was obvious they were kept in the dark about a lot of the last minute changes. Hope you are keeping your sanity – it’s a tough job you have there.

Lunch is over, time to punch back in. Later kids…

Hey Happy - Yes, my pool does have a gym....but something about the chlorine or whatever chemicals makes me get winded doing laps faster than on a treddie or bike.

I'll find something to do tonight at the gym, and yes, Mel, I will take it slow.

As for the Wellness Center, yes, it's a win-win situation....It's affordable and convenient for employees and the company likes that employees aren't away from the office for hours traveling to and from the doctor's office. They only do basic exams and treatment there, no specialists or anything, but having PT so close by is really nice.

Puff, puff, puff.
Just running in to say hello and out again. Maybe next week we will be able to chat again. Up to my ears with last minute things now, not mention dragging some clinging Indonesians around and trying to calm the fears. Sure is a scary monster this SAP.

2 workdays and 2 weekend days to 'go-live' and no everything is not finished, they are not trained to perfection, they are not ready, they are panicking - it's like the entire world just fell in down here. I think I am the only one who is not developing an ulcer or becoming paranoid. I can't do much more, because there is nothing ready for me to train until tomorrow, and I am developing some data for that today. I'm also getting ready to work with the intranet mob to get our documentation up into Knowledge Warehouse. So I am chatting in Australian with Adelaide, trying to make sense in Bahasa and having a hard time understanding the Pretorian South African accent. Not to mention a Kiwi or two thrown in and the BIG Cheese is Irish. No wonder I am going deaf.

Ruth, glad Hershey is treatable, it won't be long before she is back to her normal self. However she will probably shed hair for the rest of her days. Shad left huge deposits of the stuff around but never actually went bald.

Happy - good going on the medical side. Bit more effort and you will see and feel the difference. Those minutes are all adding up. Well done.

Ceejay - :balloons:  :HB: :gift: :queen: for a happy birthday. Sorry if it is late but you really shouldn't have a birthday when we are at the go-live stage.

Mel - take care of that arm. No point in having 2 out of commission. Need one to feed yourself that chinese dinner you and happy and michelle are contemplating. You should just rock up at Ceejays and get her to do it for you. Durn it I might even get there myself.

Gotta go. Too much to do, too little time. Sorry for those I've missed. Blowing kisses your way instead

And Ceejay - get out there and party. You need some ME time.

Good morning ladies,

Guess I'm the first one up here. Must be we're going to get some weather here. Got enough sleep last night but feel like I could still sleep 2 more hours. My first thought this morning (before the alarm went off) was ... it is Saturday yet? We are all sleepy here today - even the cat!

Shad, I am starting to think that utter chaos is the norm for every go live. People panicing and running about. I'm not sure when the next version is going through, only that it's next month which could be next week for all I know. Probably as they do tend to schedule things around the holidays and since it's the start of a new month that is usual optimal time for scheduling an install. People here too are hurrying through the halls, serious looks and notebooks in hand. They will bump you against the walls if you don't scurry out of the way. I'm late, I'm late - reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

Anyway good luck to you. Sounds like you are the only calm one in the place. We will hold your spot while you organize and reassure the masses :D

Good to hear that Bella is a bit less of a little stinker Shy.

No word from Ceejay - must have been a good birthday.

I don't feel Mel and Michelle typing above my head this morning :comp: Must have slept in - NOT.

Annie is still running around saying - no thanks, I don't WANT ANY ICE CREAM THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Madcat is getting dizzy looking at 2 monitors at once

Ruth is reigning them in on the South Beach board

And Carla is wondering if her incisions will ever stop itching.

All is normal in our little world.

And I'm off to work. See yah...

Ah so Mel must have been in stealth mode because she was above my head after all. You're getting good Mel

I know what you mean about happy and meloncholy at the same time about the leaves *big sigh* We're getting more leaves in the pool too - I thought the same last weekend. We're about 3 months out for the colors though - ours just start to turn around Halloween. So right now it's schmutz leaves.

I too read Shad's comments about trying to speak and listen in tongues and I was lost too. I have a hard enough time with the Indian and South African accents and they are trying to do English. Shad is a much more cosmopolitan woman than we will ever be :lol3:

Happy Thursday ladies -

Yay! It's Friday for me. I'm taking tomorrow off to get a 4 day weekend! Ahhhhh. I didn't make it to the gym last night for cardio. My leg, hip, back and rear end were very sore...so I stayed home and did some stretches. I hope I can get back to the gym and SOON! I walked to the Wellness Center for physical therapy yesterday, and I'm going to be doing that today as I don't have my car (I carpooled). It's supposed to rain today, but hopefully, it won't rain during my walk there and back.

Tens of thousands of motorcycle riders have come to the Milwaukee area this weekend for the 105th anniversary of Harley Davidson. There are concerts and parties/festivals all over the area. The county fairgrounds right near our house turned itself into a campground for the bikers. There were even more here 5 years ago for the Harley 100th Anniversary. It's nice to see so many people enjoying riding on the open country roads. They follow the laws and the parties are fun even for non-bikers like me. DH and I plan to find some Harley festivities to enjoy this weekend, when we're not fishing that is.

Rennie - I'm glad to hear Bella is doing better. I didn't know that Scotch helped take away the skunk smell. Just like Mel said, I thought you were going to say the Scotch was for you!

Shad - Sounds like things are frantic now. I'm sure glad they have you to keep them calm and keep things under control. You've got quite a lot of dialects/accents you're listening to there. Must be tough trying to communicate clearly. Hang in there. You are so correct that birthdays shouldn't fall during go live. I once launched a MAJOR WEBSITE on my birthday....I was up for over 24 hours the day before and day off my birthday doing last minute tweaking. Then I got to go home and sleep for 4 hours before coming back for a GO LIVE LAUNCH PARTY, which was mandatory regardless of how exhausted we were. After the launch party, DH wanted to take me out to dinner....I just wanted to sleep. I'll never forget that awful birthday over 10 years ago.

Mel - I love autumn too. The Wisconsin fall colors are breathtaking - almost as beautiful as I remember growing up in Vermont. But I'd still like to have a few more weeks of summer before the air gets crisp and cool and the leaves start turning. My tomatoes have only just started to ripen for goodness sake! We need more summer, please. Glad to hear your relaxing today. Good for you!

It's getting time for me to get to work.

 to Annie, Ceejay (hope your birthday was nice), Ruth, Madcat, Carla and everyone!

Love and hugs,

Happy Thursday to All.........

Happy...doesn't it feel great to be normal? and fire in the hole, don't be surprised if it is fire coming out of the hole too! hahaha We are on EST. Plan accordingly.

Michelle...You would be proud of me...I didn't eat one bite of icecream, and actually made a sunday for one of the managers that had to be on a conference call. Yeah Anne!! It too is my Friday day and a 4 day weekend. DD and I are going to St. Louis to see my Goddaughter's new baby...you know Olivia ANNE. hehe

MEL....come on down/up, would love very much to have you at our social.

Shad...slowdown and catch up with yourself girl.

I have found a great guy, well at least I think I have, but will have to tell you about him later. His name is Jeff.

I may not be back till Tuesday, so everyone have a fantastic weekend.

Gotta get busy.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. There was no party cause I had to work, sigh. I'll save this day off for a better time.

Tee hee, my boss is forever telling me to turn down a chemical pump. He told me lower one today. I told him we were in the red on this pump. I didn't hear it pumping on one of my rounds. He burned it up. He thought it was going to pump turned completely off, honestly !!!!

Annie
Good for you in not eating ice cream. Have a fun week end and don't spoil Olivia Anne, but hold her once for me.

I'm so loving this cooler weather. We have had a couple of day's with light fog. The sun is so big and red when it comes up in the morning and while going down in the evening. The day's are diffinately getting shorter.

We are only finishing up the doco last night , there is a lightning and thunder show outside, the power goes out. Comes back, goes out. So we work until 9.00pm to get things finished. I leave then and K carries on to pull it all together. She is going to send me a copy of the finished manual when she's done. I get back to the hotel, send out for room service, my laundry hasn't come back, what! forgot to put my name and room number on the form!! Silly me. Laundry is found. Food arrives, it is 10.00pm. Get to bed around 11.00. I'm awake at 3.00am, no more sleep for me. I power up the computer to find the manual - might as well read this sucker and get myself emotionally prepared. Yikes, K has had trouble sending it (12.37am) and it has been declared a virus risk and the text is removed. No manual. Class in 1 hour. K is not a morning person and probably won't be here before 9 when the class is due to start and I don't know the full order or the first part of the course. Of course the rest of it I am fine with. But the first part is not my area of expertise and I didn't write the doco. This will be fun.
In case you hadn't worked it out yet. I am panicking!!!!! Talk about taking it to the wire!

Gotta go. See if I can annoy some natives - they are all getting ready for Ramadan which means that they will fast during the day and only eat after the sun goes down and before it gets up. There will be some grumpy people here next week I'm picking and not all because of SAP!

Hi ladies,

On to the start of a long weekend :carrot:  carrot:

Annie - have a safe trip. Give the baby a big hug and take a good sniff of the sweet smelling baby for us :cloud9: Jeff sounds dreamy. We can't wait to hear more.

Thank you Mel. I can always find you - sometimes it takes a little longer than others  I'm glad that you decided to take a long weekend yourself. It's about time. Whatcha got planned or are you just going to sit back and relax? :beach: I hope your weekend is quiet. Just call me if you need me to shoo people away :rollpin:

Michelle - hope the fishing was good this morning. Enjoy your long weekend. Is the back feeling better? I hope so, long hours in a boat is not the most comfy of accomodations. Yep, the Harley doings are something to see. DH went for the 100th anniversary but had to come back early because of family issues. I know he really enjoyed it and my SIL said they stood on a bridge and just watched thousands of bikes on 94 pass through town. Guess it's good revenue for the city.

Shad - I hope, hope, hope that at this moment you are in bed sleeping and not up and proofreading manuals or fretting about go live. Oh wait, you were the one pillar of sanity in the lot, weren't you? best of luck to you. May it not be TOO horrid

Ceejay - I caught a few sunsets and they have been pretty lately - at least the big red sun. I'm down in the lower level of the gym when the sun comes up so I don't get to catch the sunrise. I too was surprised to see several foggy mornings. Looks like we might catch the very very tail end of hurricane Gustaf. The winds from Fay were quite startling. Clear, blue sky and then all of a sudden WHOOSH. Are you working this weekend?

Enjoy the camping Shy.

Madcat - must be getting to that time of year when it's great to get in a bike ride. Hope you and the DH can sneak one in this weekend.

I didn't want to get up this morning even tho I got enough sleep. I did get up and DH and I were at the gym by 5:30. I did some walking and put in an extra hard workout in the pool. I am trying to push myself to swim more consecutive laps. I know my arms got a good workout and I was huffing and puffing.

I just checked the pool outside (we got off early at the office) and the water has finally warmed up to where it's still pretty cold but it's the lowest temperature that I'd still consider to swim in. I don't know what I'll do. It's too shady now (at this temp you want the sun shining on you to keep you warm). Tomorrow I go get my hair colored and it's usually a good idea to keep out of the chlorine for a few days. Maybe I'll just go splash around the shallow end on Monday just to say that I got in it at least once this year

Anyway - have nothing else to say that wouldn't be just mindless babbling so I'll just wish everyone a nice weekend.

Quick pass through before I gear up for the long weekend. Of course the Hyper Pypers will be here and the two teens are each bringing a friend. They will be tenting it out in the meadow and I'm pulling the inside fuse on the electricity out there so nobody decides to crank up electric guitars at midnight!

Hersh has started her first round of drugs - heavy duty stuff. I have to wear gloves when I touch the pills. Think chemo destroying mutant cells. :yikes: It's supposed to alleviate some of the symptoms quickly and in five to ten days we'll test her again. She's not feeling very perky today and is sleeping a lot. I am going to try very hard to find her an island of calm in the sea of chaos this weekend. I may move her bed to my room for the visit. I owe her that.

Right now I need to dash off to the booze store for a bottle of rum since my rum cake is on the food request list!

I do hope everyone has a great weekend and that nobody is affected by those darn Gulf hurricanes! Sometimes I'm very glad to live in The Great White North!

Rum cake??? Ruth has a recipe for rum cake? Hmmm. I just happen to have an ancient bottle of rum, and could sure use the recipe! Pretty please?
It sounds like Hershey's going to need a lot of pampering  while she goes through the course of medication, but such good news that her condition is treatable. :)

Happy, you go girl!!! I'm so very, very impressed at how well you're doing. Don't worry too much if the weight loss slows a little - it's pretty normal to have a big loss at first before settling in to a steady Rennie-like march towards slimmness. ;) (By the way, expect an email from me soon - today I confirmed rental of the smallest flat in NY, and will forward you the best dates.)

Ceejay, I was beginning to think you'd never get your long weekend off. You really do deserve a nice 5-day thank-you weekend for all the times you've rushed in to help out, but I guess three days will have to do for now!! And by the way, I completely forgot to wish you HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sorry about that!

Madcat, I hope it's not raining down there like it is here... You'd have to resort to indoor sports... ;)

Mel, one of these days you'll be getting the book I mentioned in the mail. I didn't opt for the quickest route - the price was horrendous, :yikes: and I'm just too cheap. Here's hoping you've enjoyed your DVD-filled, drama-free day in the new PJ's. I have one big unbleached cotton nightshirt I practically live in, and a new one in reserve for the day it gives up the ghost. I'm not as keen on PJ's - the pants and sleeves are always too short, and I end up feeling huge. Or else they're hideously expensive. For travel I have a pair of super-comfy well-worn interns scrubs. By the way, be prepared - I'll need clear instructions on how to get to NJ by public transport next Nov, and I may not be alone...

Shad, it sounds like one of your job requirements is to be an adrenalin junkie! I don't know how you manage the stress. It does sound like this contract may be getting to the end - are you taking a break after, or moving straight on to something else?

Annie, where do you keep finding these great guys? I've seen your pic, so I know you're a babe, but I'm still impressed that you get yourself out there. (I stopped complaining about not meeting a new man some time ago - I finally realized it would involve actually leaving the house and going out in public. :yikes: ) And yes, I do realize that was a pretty sad thing to admit, but at least I'm not whining about my single state.

Michelle, your job's wellness center sounds fantastic! A real win-win situation, and you're smart to take full advantage. Like you, I enjoy a good deep-tissue massage - when I used to run I got regular massage, and I always felt if she didn't hurt me I hadn't gotten my money's worth. (Another sad note - I haven't had a massage since I put on all this weight. The ultrafit therapist I used to go to was an Ironman triathlete, and my ego couldn't take it. Maybe some day... But on the plus side, the sciatica has mostly let up since I quit the running, so proof once again that every cloud etc)

Shy, I hope the knees are doing okay - do stay off them while they recover a bit! How did Bella get skunked? Did she manage to sneak off-leash? I know skunks really like living under people's porches, is that where it was?

Apart from the rain and my endless desire for carbs, all is well here. No itching from the incisions which are in fact tiny and well-healed. Just a little soreness at the navel. I can't wait to see the doc next week to get permission to be a little more active!
My big cat is on a new med - an anti-depressant, in fact - in the hopes it will help with his relentless OCD-style grooming. So far he's been sleeping a lot, like Hershey, and I hope it'll fix the problem. Poor baby.
I found out recently a neighbour rents out his house in Provence when he's not there, and three of us are planning to head there for three weeks a year from now. The spot looks gorgeous, right in wine country (oops), and I can barely wait. :D

And that's it for now. Enjoy the long weekend! Wishing you all good weather, good company, and good fun.

Shad

Oh please Carla - forget the cake, just drink the rum - why double the calories?
Provence hey - well what fun. I'm sort of working on my next big holiday which would probably include a bit of France and Italy - I'd like to visit Monet's garden at Givenchy and maybe do a tour of chateau and cellars. Who knows though. I will have to do a walking tour after that lot as well. Which reminds me - do you remember us talking about the walk across England tour. Well I found out some info in a Singapore newspaper last week. Here is the websitehttp://coasttocoastguides.co.uk/index.htm and http://brigantesenglishwalks.com/. There are a couple more too if you are interested. I don't have to manage the stress - just slap the other consultants around once in a while. I don't get stressed too often with my job. Once you have the routine down pat, you only have to come to grips with the way the company wants to do things. The training part is always interesting - people are so different. Finance people for example are always busy but happy to come to training. Plant Maintenance people never want to come to training - they always have too much to do and this should not be part of their job! HR people huddle in a group and do their own secret training - not always successfully but.......Warehouse staff do training under sufferance and impatiently. Engineers procrastinate and scientists protest that it will not work for their brand of science. There's nowt sa quare as folks!!!

Ceejay - Good to hear you are getting some time off this week. Make sure you get it and enjoy it.

Ruth - Big pats for Hershey. Hope she gets over the first part of the treatment fast. Good idea removing her from the melee at your place this weekend. How is Disney/Daisy coping with all this fuss?

Drat - I can't see all the other posts even though I have gone to Advanced. I seem to remember Happy was going in the pool - happy swimming. :swim: and Mel was in there somewhere too, but I am out of time to fiddle. I'll be back later. Meantime I am thinking of going for a walk. It is raining out there but not heavily and I might wander down the Jalan (street) to see what is on the other side of the footbridge over the highway. I think there may be a shopping plaza over there. Wish me luck. The others are all working. Silly people.

Bella is a lucky little girl. We have a large fenced in back yard she doesn't have to live on a leash. problem is, all the other animals like the back yard too lol. From time to time the dear even jump the fence to eat the apples off the ground from our apple tree.

Getting ready to leave to go to the camp grounds until Monday sometimes. You all be good and have a lovely holiday.

A FRIEND HAD TO IM ME SO I COULD CALL PRETENDING TO BE SOMEONE ELSE AND GET HER OFF THE PHONE WITH ANOTHER WOMAN! WE ARE BOTH LEARNING NEW TRICKS TO AVOID STRESS.....AND IT DOESN'T HURT ANYONE'S FEELINGS  YES CARLA...ALL I DID WAS LIE ABOUT, CHANNEL SURF, WATCH THE ENDINGS OF A LOT OF MOVIES ON CABLE AND WORE AN OLDER FLANNEL NIGHTIE WITH THE A/C TURNED UP. I CHANGED MY MIND AND WANTED SOMETING SOFTER. THE CONSTRUCTO GUYS ARE HARD AT IT TRYING TO MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME. THEY HAD A MILLION VIOLATIONS AND WERE SHUT DOWN FOR AWHILE AFTER I SPOKE MY POLITICO FRIEND WITH THE DUMPING OF CEMENT ON OUR CARS  THEN HE FOUND THEY HAD RAISED THEIR DIRT LEVEL BEHIND THEIR ILLEGAL CEMENT WALL THAT WAS ALREADY DRAINING INTO OUR YARD! :faint: IF I REPEAT MYSELF I'M SORRY BUT I HAVE BEEN LAUGHING AND FEELING SORRY FOR THEM ALL AT ONCE. THESE POOR SODS WERE ONLY FOLLOWING THE ARCHITECTS PLANS.
ANYWAY...ALL IS QUIET ON THE EASTERN FRONT OF THE GOOD OL' USA.

Good morning chicks,

Happy Saturday to you.

Bald tires Mel? Geez I guess anything with tires can wear out. Better get some new ones, with the autumn rains approaching we can't have you slip sliding away there girl. I'll bet if the construction guys took off their shirts she wouldn't be finding all those violations, would she ladies? :s:  Always good to know that Mel is on the job! Have a nice quiet weekend - good for you for figuring out ways to de-stress. I think that's the key. Certainly doesn't do us any good to get all riled up. Your ticker seems to be flying downwards all of a sudden. The days are flying off quicker...

Shy - I thought you said your yard was open, didn't you have problems with the neighbor's dog coming on your property? Might have been someone else... Have fun camping. This is one of those weekends where's it's crazy busy at the campgrounds. Unless you have a reservation you almost have to go on Thursday to get a good spot. :yikes:

Shad -you certainly nailed it with the different groups and their approach to training  I guess the trick is all about adapting. Be careful walking over that bridge - hope something nice awaits you on the other side. Walking across merry ole England might not be too bad except for the dratted weather. I think I'd rather walk across sunny Greece  Would love to tour the English countryside in a horse and buggy or some open air thing. Lovely area.

Thanks for the kudos Carla. I'm happy to hear the incisions are healing nicely and all is going well on that end. Will look for your email. Still checking things out... The house in Provence sounds like a wonderful get away. And 3 weeks too. How heavenly. The kind of thing that gives you the motivation to get through the rest of the year :D

Ruth, Ceejay, Michelle, Annie

I guess today is a pamper me day. I have a hair appointment at 12:30 which really breaks up the day. Guess I will get a pedicure too as it's been a while. My cell phone has died and it's only about a month old so that's got to go back to the store. I also need to do some other returns. So we'll take care of that today. Tomorrow will be some routine chores. I think I'm going to try and go to the gym on Monday as normal even if it is a holiday. And then I can come home and get a start on cleaning out the garage if I don't get on that earlier. Got 4 days ahead of me, I want to make the most of them. And with that I'd better jump in the shower and get on with it. Happy Saturday!

It's Sunday and I am suffering from cabin fever. Yesterday it rained on and off and when I could I got out for a walk. Went over the bridge and saw an advertising sign with lots of pictures of orchids on it. Oh, I thought there might be an orchid show on!! So I memorised the words and set about translating them when i got back - so "Orang bejak taat pajak" translates as:- It's a wise man who pays his tolls. :yikes: So back I went to read some more words. It seems this beautiful picture is an ad admonishing the hoards and multitudes to pay the tolls on the Jalan Tol (toll roads) leading into Jakarta. And they are threatened with automatic tolls coming in too.
What a let down.
So hopefully today I will get to go out with P to Mini Indonesia. I have not spoken to him yet today and don't want to get him out of bed too early if he pulled a late one last night. I did meet the Boss in the lift this morning and he said that P left around dinner time last night. So maybe....... :crossed: for me.

Happy - I would not prefer to walk across sunny Greece. Imagine all the water you would have to carry and imagine the weight of it in the sunshine and heat. I prefer to walk in the cooler climates. There is a walking path along the cliffs of Cornwall that would be fun as well - might even get accosted by a pirate. Well one can hope! (that he is an attractive pirate). You can do Ireland in a Gypsy caravan pulled by a horse/s(?) Sound like fun??

Ceejay - you must be hanging out for tomorrow.

Okay - better go and see if I can rouse P before it starts to rain or thunder or something.

Gort - Klaatu barada nikto. Don't know exactly what that translates too but it kept Gort from destroying the Earth in the movie - The Day the Earth Stood Still. Thus starting my early love affair with science fiction and memorizing weird phrases...

Shad, I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh but I could imagine the excitement of thinking you'd get to see some lovely flowers only to be so dissapointed to look it up and find out it's an admonishment to pay tolls. Thank you for letting me sit in my comfy chair and live vicariously through you. That's unfortunate that you have no where to work off a bit of the nervous energy. Sounds like you could use a peaceful day off.

Wow Ceejay - that's an INCREDIBLE amount of steps to get in. You go girl!!!!

Got my hair done today. It's very dark. Might even be kind of like my natural color - we'll see when the roots grow in. Hairdresser said with swimming 3 times a week it would be better to take the blonde out because it will start to turn greenish. This is usually the time of year when I get itchy to go red/reddish however, I don't dare lest I spend alot of money to look like Mel's ticker

I did get a few things done today. Tomorrow is cleaning and meal planning. My stomach has been bothering me alot lately. I don't want to add the antacid meds to what I'm already taking (trying to keep the prescription number limited to 3). So if I can control it on my own, I will. DH and I went to an Italian restaurant tonight. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out a happy medium between what I wanted/what I should have/what would not make me sick. I only had about a third of the meal. The entree will be tomorrow's lunch.

Tonight I watched The Sound of Music. Haven't seen it in about 20 years. I still remember the songs. Yesterday I could not remember the name of the lead singer of Led Zepplin (Robert Plant) nor could I remember what the pink and yellow flowers we planted out front were called (Hybiscus) but darn it, I could almost sing every lyric in that movie. Go figure... :dunno:

And now I'm off to sleep. Night all, sleep well. Hope you found something interesting to do Shad - day's half over for you :(

Haven't heard from P all day. I've had to amuse myself. The day has finally past and I'm about ready for bed. Cabin fever is not funny.

Happy - ever since Mum got Alzheimers, I have been beating myself up every time I forget something. It's a scary thing. However the more pressure I put on myself to remember the less I remember. If I leave the puzzle alone, the answer will come to me (generally in the middle of the night) Stress does funny things to the human brain.
Hair sounds nice too.

Mel - Telling him to deal with it and walking away - way to go Girl. White cliffs of Dover - well I've been there. It's nice. Interesting castle there too. You can see France on a clear day as well. Hope you get those tyres changed soon. No racing down the passages ways or hilly roads until you do - okay?

Well I'm about to watch another mindless tv program. Then it's sleepy time. Gym first up, then work. Hallelujah, something to do, somewhere to go. Actually I did go to the gym this morning. All is not lost.

Tomorrow is September, maybe I should exercise my brain thinking up a title. Yep right well I will do that shortly. cya

Good morning ladies,

Bright and sunny out there today. Going to be a bit on the warm side too I think. Looks like Hurricane Gustaf is going to avoid us. Can't say I'm sad about that. I certainly would not want to sit in bumper to bumper traffic going nowhere to a place I'm not even sure where I'd be headed. Guess that is the chance you take living on the coastal areas. Probably why many never returned back to New Orleans either.

Shad, I attended an Alzheimer's information session at work. Many things we can do to keep the brain more active. You are accomplishing many with continuing to work, the Soduku puzzles AND trying to interpret many languages and accents. There is also something called neuobics which stimulates the brain to create new branches and pathways. It's based on a principle that you do something completely different and your brain has to work to learn the new way and thus "grows" to accomodate it. Examples of neuobics are: take your shower with your eyes completely closed - from the moment you step into the shower including reaching out for the towel and drying off. (You will have to pay closer attention to find the shower knobs, shampoo and soap bottles and even if you got all the "bits" washed. Another example is to turn all your clocks and pictures upside down. You'll have to work to figure out what time it is. Or do things with your opposite hand - like brush your teeth or hair with your non dominant hand. It's acutally kind of fun tho I did pop myself in the nose more than once with my toothbrush because I apparently cannot get the up and down brushing motion in a controlled manner with my right hand

I recently picked up a book written by a woman about things you can do to age gracefully and preserve what you don't want to lose. Haven't had a chance to crack it open yet - been concentrating more on the pre-diabetes books but if there's anything of interest, I'll pass it along.

Good for you Mel - getting them off in the right direction and then bowing out. You are learning. Hope you can get some new wheels without too much of a hassle. I would think that no matter what the chair type, you'd need the help of your arms no matter what. Hope you can find something that works. Do you still have the one that lifts up to help you get into the cabinets?

Everyone tells me my body will get used to the Metformin but I'm getting skeptical - there might be a day where I think it's calming down and then it comes back with a vengence. I am being more careful about I eat. I confirmed what I suspected - saw my blood sugar go down, figured this was under control and I didn't have to be so vigilant. WRONGO :nono: Even tho I am still within the normal ranges - under the pre-diabetes ranges even, my numbers were still creeping up. So like it or not kid, this is a LIFESTYLE change you just need to accept. So there.

Shad - thought we were Singing September Songs or something like that for the new month. At the time we rolled over, you thought you'd be buried in go-live but guess that is not the case now? I guess whomever gets there first can set up the new thread. Hard to believe 9 months of the year have passed. Heck, I can't believe we are almost 8 years into the new millenium already. Wow...

Time to go get busy. Enjoy what's left of the weekend except for those of us stateside who have a bit of an extended one for our salute to us "Labor Day". Honoring the downtrodden sods of the country
