South Beach Diet - What "sin(s)" did you keep?

View Full Version : What "sin(s)" did you keep?

OK, I know we are suppose to do this right, but I have tried 1/2 & 1/2, I've tried soy milk, but nothing beats Creamora when it comes to coffee... so I made the decision that I'm gonna fully enjoy my coffee.

Did you make a conscious decision to hold onto one of your favorite "sins"? If so, is it effecting your goals of the diet?

I must confess that I indulge in a bit of butter every so often. I have a supply of those small plastic thingies left over from the syrup festival and throw one onto my veggies every so often. They are a "pat" of butter and only 36 calories and 4 fat grams. I figure it's worth the sin if it makes me eat my veggies.

Regular (not "low carb") ketchup lol I'm just too danged cheap to buy the low carb stuff. I just limit how much I eat :)

I love licking the spoon and extra little remainders of cookie dough when I make cookies =] But I definitely have learned that it is not a smart idea to bake cookies often at all!

I don't count ketchup either :P mmm

I never gave up Chinese food at my favorite restaurant, except during P1. I only eat spicy not sweetened sauces but I know they have some cornstarch. I always said I would give it up if it caused me problems but it never did. Sadly the food isn't as good as it used to be so I've hardly been there the last 4 months or so. I'm also eating the occasional ear of corn now that the local stuff is available. No more corn dinners ( a former favorite since I was little) but an ear or two are allowed as long as I don't have other starches with dinner.

Bagels with cream cheese. I have them once or twice a week. I eat a different kind of bagel now (whole grain), and light cream cheese - but the concept is the same :)

More coffee than is allowed

Butter and ketchup. I also have a piece of very dark chocolate most days (like one of the Dove Minis, but a 85% cocoa). I have found that it hasn't affected my loss. I also allow myself to cheat for things like potlucks and family nights which occur no more than twice a month. Eat as best I can for those, but I don't feel guilty if I have to stray from plan. I stay on plan the rest of the time, and I believe in balance over time.

Now that we're deep into summer, I confess to enjoying fresh corn-on-the-cob occasionally, but I do put ICBINB spray on it instead of butter. And I really enjoy icy cold watermelon on a hot muggy day.

There's no way I can limit my coffee to two miserly cups a day, either. Most mornings I drink about 1/2 a pot.

We kept creamer and ketchup, too, and fresh fruit has been hard to pass up lately. My mom sent us a Harry and David's pears/cherries gift box, and, well, we're trying to be good, but those pears are so good!

07-20-2008, 01:22 AM
Ok here goes...

I put too much soy sauce in my stir fry...but I drink alot of water.

I think I will end up drinking 128 ounces when the night is through.

Alcohol. I eventually got over it within a few days but it was hard! Very hard!!!

Now that I'm in Phase 2 I drink wine. I must say I feel much better. :)

07-20-2008, 02:28 AM
The numbers on my scale are going down. I can also fit into clothes I haven't worn in a while. :)

Apparently I was so good at ignoring that one I didn't even remember it! I'm drinking the other 1/2 ;)

You had to mention corn on the cob! The local stuff isn't ready yet around here - late this year - but I certainly intend to "sin" with that a couple of times.

07-20-2008, 08:25 AM
Oh, me too on the coffee. I drink tons of it...with chicory...But put skim milk in it, so calorie wise it's ok...just probably way too much caffeine.

Since I'm maintaining now, I do have "no-no" stuff occasionally..very sushi. Went to a party last night where there was NOTHING that was SBD friendly, so I just ate a tiny bit of everything and don't feel "guilty" this morning. As long as "cheats" are rare, I don't worry about them.

coffee w/ff half and half is unlimited in this house
i still don't weigh or measure.

also I tend to always indulge when going out....

07-20-2008, 01:30 PM
My major one is alcohol. I've been using diet mixers and such to try and keep the calories down instead of fruit juices and sugary sweet mixers. Vodka and diet coke is my new drink. I also had a strawberry vodka tonic which was decent. And I only allow myself to have a drink on Friday or Saturday. Never during the week.

I'm staying away from the beer though.

07-20-2008, 01:55 PM
Now that I am on phase 2 and can have popcorn I still have about a tble of butter on it.......that is one of my few indulgences....yummy :)

07-20-2008, 03:43 PM
Way too much caffeine in the form of coffee and Coke Zero!

I plan on eating corn on the cob since I just bought some at farmer's market. I do taste the dough if I'm baking cookies or cakes for the family. I am usually satisfied with just a taste though. Going to a rib festival today so I might have to sample a little bit.

Thank you all for sharing your "sin(s)". I'm glad to know I'm not the only one bending a rule or two. I'm trying to stick as close as I can to the diet, but once in awhile you have to say "I deserve this." and for me, I deserve to enjoy my coffee!!!!!!

07-22-2008, 12:25 PM
Full Fat Cheese (when it's at our favorite cheese shop, or the restaurant we go to has a good cheese plate), Ketchup (due to the cost), & too much wine (when I play our monthly poker game). And I will induldge in creamer when I'm somewhere other than home and work.

07-22-2008, 01:15 PM
Chinese food every Friday night. I won't eat the fried or heavily starched sauces, or rice, BUT I kept my egg roll. :^:

Some lower fat, (but not reduced fat) cheeses, like Feta and Goat.

REAL Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. My mother would roll over in her grave if I used anything but authentic parmesan. (just a sprinkle!)

More coffee than is allowed

Me too but I have switched to Non Fat Powder Milk in it.

I'm scared to death to have anything else off plan in fear of triggering a binge; now that I have my cravings under control I'm very carefully to keep it there. For me this method of eating is more about being in control and less about loosing weight. I need to loose a significant amount of weight but I cannot do it if I don't have the cravings in check.

07-22-2008, 03:52 PM
I have way too much diet soda in the summer months and too much coffee in the winter months. I also eat watermelon and corn in the summer every few weeks or so. I probably drink more wine than I should on most weekends.

07-22-2008, 04:20 PM
my sins are diet caffine dr pepper (was trying to finish what was in the house) need to drink more water...but soda is gone now so back to my water...I love the flavored zero calorie water from walmart...and butter it allowed?

07-22-2008, 08:37 PM
Caffeine for sure in whatever form it comes, diet soda, etc.... and the occasional ribeye....oh how i love them medium rare! oh and a few semi-sweet chocaloate chips here and there to satisfy that sweet tooth. Glad I'm not the only one who allows indulgences here and there.

07-23-2008, 01:10 PM
I definitely use hot sauce more than "sparingly" and go a little crazy with my soy sauce, too...

08-01-2008, 03:42 AM
I have not limited my caffeine and still use SF Coffeemate. I just haven't found any replacement that tastes as good.

08-01-2008, 08:40 AM
Watermelon, and lots of it. I'll go with the glycemic load on that one instead of the glycemic index.

And, I'll agree with the corn. Now, I'll have 1/2 of an ear instead of a whole one (or more!!).

I have temporarily "relocated" this summer. I moved in with my elderly father so I could help him get his life back on track after my Mom having had major medical setbacks for the past six months.

It is not so much a matter of allowing "sins" as realizing that if you can't follow the food plan 100% than do the best that you can. I have increased my physical activity though since I have been here and that has helped with the weight lose and food cravings. Stress has the added bonus of reducing my appetite overall.

I try to avoid all desserts though. If I do I have a bite or two from someone else's. I have had movie popcorn on my birthday, yes with that awful buttery stuff they put on it. I felt like I had died and gone to Hog Heaven.

I have really tried to avoid almost all starches this summer and concentrated on lean protein and whole fruit for my "sweet tooth".

PS I forgot---I had real birthday cake on my birthday. Luckily for me, everyone jumped right in and it was all gone within 12 hours so I didn't have to worry about leftovers!;)

08-01-2008, 02:44 PM
Full fat cheeses, I use mostly sharp/intense flavors and use less of them.
When on phase 2, I eat any/all fresh fruits-including the off limits watermelon, usually 2-3 servings of fruit a day.
I have eaten fresh corn three times this summer. I occasionally use fresh or frozen corn in cooking.
I eat regular bacon, but usually 1-2 slices per week max.
I use regular butter on occasion.

08-01-2008, 03:05 PM
suuuuuuuuuuuuuushi...I just can't part with it. 90% of the time I get it with brown rice. I have it maybe twice a month. I had it for lunch today, but the place I went to didn't offer brown rice. I had it with white rice. Now I feel gross.

08-04-2008, 09:04 AM
my sins are diet caffine dr pepper (was trying to finish what was in the house) need to drink more water...but soda is gone now so back to my water...I love the flavored zero calorie water from walmart...and butter it allowed?

Check the ingredients on the butter spray. Personally I didn't like the butter spray and threw the entire thing out before I was ever on the beach! Same with the salad dressing "spritz". YUCK.

08-04-2008, 09:42 AM
I have only 2 cups coffee/day, but they are BIG cups. :D
I have my once a year doughnuts and sushi dinner, as I mentioned in the other thread. Other than that, I go with the corn on the cob and watermelon too. I don't have much, but summer just isn't summer without it.
Otherwise, I don't really eat anything off plan regularly, but on occasion tend to overdo with the limited on plan things (fudgesicles!).

Way too much caffeine and the occasional Kashi product. They are pretty healthy, even if they are not 100% SB.
