Where is everyone this morning? Feeling as sleepy as me? :)

Playtime is over, time to get back to reality for me. The girls won't get home until late this afternoon, but I'm going to go over to the house around 10 to do some light dusting and vacuuming, and pick up some groceries I know they'll need. I can't wait to hear all about the adventures they had on their safari, but I expect they'll be pretty worn out from traveling, too.

The weather is supposed to be awful the next few days; hazy, hot and humid. I hope everyone is making sure they're drinking lots of water to prevent becoming dehydrated in this heat!

Good Morning, Cottage. I've been up for a little while. Sounds like you'll have a fun day. Stay cool in the hhh weather! Today will be a sunny day here, but hot as usual. I have no plans except to run a few errands in the am and then work on my book.

Have a great day, all!

Good morning, Cottage, and any other chickies wandering in. Sorry your "staycation" was so short, Cottage, but I'm sure your Girlies will have lots to tell you.

Good advice on the water drinking, Cottage. Farmer Art had to be taken to emergency yesterday with major cramping from dehydration - he just had to get the rest of the hay in! He's OK now and a bit smarter about drinking water. They actually suggested he eat chips :yikes: or take salt tablets to make himself thirsty.

Yes, HHH here today too with the usual afternoon rain predicted. It sure is helping the weeds grow out in the veggie garden! I need to do another hour or so out there so I can find the rows. My Genovese basil is doing really well - I have enough to open an Italian restaurant specializing in pesto. I'll have a goodly supply to see me though the winter. (I freeze it in ice cube trays with just enough olive oil to make it stick together.)

This morning I sort out the produce for the Good Food Box and distribute it. Then Hersh and I go to the vet to see what's up with her fur loss on her tail and the two calluses on her elbows. I hope spending time in her wading pool isn't causing the problem because she sure does love her pool. She sat on the deck looking very worried when I cleaned it with the pressure washer on the weekend.

This afternoon is all mine! I plan to list the niggles that are buzzing around my head like gnats. My "I should"s take more time thinking about than doing. Putting them down on paper gets them out of my head and sometimes dealt with really quickly.

Hope your day is productive.

Hi, Belle Mer. Your day sounds lovely. By the way, I just love your nickname and avatar choice. Beautifully Beachy!

07-17-2008, 08:25 AM
My "I should"s take more time thinking about than doing. Putting them down on paper gets them out of my head and sometimes dealt with really quickly.

I need to take that advice to heart, Ruth! I lose many a night's sleep because of all the "I shoulds" running around in my mind. I hope Hershey gets a clean bill of health from the vet today, and that she can still enjoy wallowing in her pool. :)

Good morning, Bel Mer! What is your book about?

07-17-2008, 08:33 AM
Morning all!!

Cottage, I know you can't wait to here about that trip. What an adventure they must have had!! I'm sleepy this morning too...stayed up too late watching some stupid show on "super rats".

Belle, hope you get a lot done on your book!! Every time I see your "name" I think about my Grandmother. When someone had a tummy ache she would call it "Mal de Mer" (sea sick)

Ruth, If the vet tries to get you to buy some kind of ointment or something that is a fortune, try that Nu-stock stuff first. I swear it has cured Stitch!! His hair has all grown back and he is "sore" free. One little scratch and we put a dab on him and that's the end of that. Wish I would have found it before we spent a couple of K on "fancy" creams, shots etc. grrrrr.

Me. Nothing much. Going to work out in a bit (started level 2 of Shred yesterday and I like it much better than level 1..not as much "jumping")
Then I have to run to the store and get some hair dye and kill the gray. Exiting day or what??? We are just going to relax around here today to store up energy for our busy weekend. May grill some tuna steaks or just eat leftovers if they boys didn't get to the leftovers last night.

Thanks for your nice comments about my screen name. I'm a huge fan of all things Mediterranean, especially the Provence region of France, and Sicily. I guess it's because part of my ancestry is from those areas. I've never been there, maybe someday!

Hope everyone has a good day.

07-17-2008, 09:21 AM
Belle Mer, I've spent time in Provence (3 months) and also in Sicily - just a vacation. I loved it so much I think I must have some Mediterranean blood. You WILL get there someday soon - no maybe about it!

Cat, my vet is a real winner. If he can recommend something simple rather than prescription, he'll do it. Hersh isn't itchy at all. Um - what's Nu-stock?

Trash is out to the road for pick-up, my niggles are on paper and I'm off to pack the Good Food Boxes. We never know what's been bought from the wholesaler so it's sort of like getting a Christmas stocking. I'm hoping for local green beans today and some zucchini. Some of the older folks complain about romaine or leaf lettuce and want iceberg but we refuse to get it. They need to learn to eat healthier stuff. I know two of the older ladies give their romaine to Bob at the diner in exchange for toast and coffee - white toast with butter and loads of PB and jam and they are both diabetic! We'll persist though. This morning we have a Caesar salad for them to sample when they pick up their order and detailed recipes to hand out. Last time it was leaf lettuce and we handed out recipes for Wilted Lettuce Salad - food porn with lots of bacon and bacon fat!

The Doggage are settled in to sleep for a while. They are tired after all the company. I'm outta here in ten minutes.

Good morning Chickies,

Cottage- enjoy your day, I know you will be glad to see the girls again.

Belle Mer- enjoy your day and hope you have a productive day writing.

Ruth- yes you definitely can get dehydrated quickly in the heat thanks for reminding us to drink water.

Cat- Have a good day just hanging out and getting rid of grays (I refuse to color still just pluck the grays as I find them).

As for me- DH and 2 DD are not coming home until Friday night so it will be another quiet night tonight but I will be ready for them to come home. I am at work today so it will be busy.

Have a great day

Ruth, long story, but we discovered this stuff ( accident at the local feed store. It's an ointment made of sulpher and pine oil. It smells awful till you get used to it, but has worked miracles on our little maltese. He's like a brand new dog and so happy now. He stayed drugged before and still itched. I felt so sorry for him and even at one point thinking about having him put down because he was so miserable. No quality of life at all. It works on all kinds of skin problems and regrows hair etc. And it's on around 13 dollars for a HUGE tube of it. He didn't have mange, but was allergic to just about everything. He still has the allergies, but no itching, scratching, raw sores etc.

Good morning all! Sorry to be MIA again. We have a set of hearings tomorrow morning (hopefully our last ones for the year) and I'm going a little crazy trying to get everything done.

Cottage: I'm sure you enjoyed your staycation, but I'm also sure you're excited to see those girls. You'll have to indulge us and give us some details about their trip!

Belle Mer: Have fun working on your book. I have to agree with everyone here; love your user name!

Ruth: I hope everything is fine with Hershey...let us know what goes on! I agree with Cottage and need to take your advice on the "shoulds". This weekend coming up is a free one besides a badminton tournament with DH and making a pasta salad for church, so I'll be getting niggles done left and right, hopefully. ;)

Cat: I think DH and I may need to check into this for our Toby. (The yellow-lab mix). He tends to get really dry, flaky skin during our dry winter and itches constantly. Poor thing. Well, enjoy your "non-exciting" day. Sometimes those are the best!

Pearl: Enjoy your quiet night. I love DH and miss him when he's gone, but a week without him is sometimes nice. I get a lot done. Have a nice work-day!

Me: Nothing much here. Still fighting with the scale, but official W-I isn't until Sunday. I have to try and remember that I've started doing strength training again, so that may affect my results.

No big plans tonight. I'm still working on my grandmother's lapghan and I'm hoping to finish the body by tomorrow and do the border over the weekend. I'd like to get it to the cleaners by Monday morning. I think I'll mail it to her the following week if all goes well.

Work should be slower today. Just final prep for hearings tomorrow morning and some general paperwork. I also need to get online and find a pasta salad recipe. Being on SB for so long, I have no idea what to do! I've never made one! Anyone have a good recipe? Hmmm... think I'll start a special thread.

Well, off to finish getting ready for work. You ladies have a great day!

Mornin ladies

hot hummid and rainy day here but suppose to clear up for the weekend but i guess that doesn't matter since we are headed out of town tomorrow.

busy busy here at work so this will be short & sweet - hope you all have a great day

hello to those still to come

07-17-2008, 10:02 AM
Good morning! HHH! Nuff said!

Boy do I need to wash those grays out too! If I plucked them like pearl I would be bald! I am in dire need of a manicure too, almost embarassed at the shape of my nails, chipping polish, oh the horror! ;) Yep I smell some me time coming on.

I have a tricky closing today, the file has been a nightmare from day one. Crossing my fingers that something finally goes right!

Went for a walk with DH lastnight, I swear he was trying to kill me. It was so flippin hot and humid out there but I refused let him know it was about to do me in. I of course survived and was one slimy creature when we got back to the house!

Gotta run, have a great day!

07-17-2008, 10:03 AM
femme, I may have to try some of that stuff. My cocker has awful skin and he scratches a ton. But I hate paying for prescription stuff...hate going to the vet because somehow it ALWAYS costs $150!!

I am still very sleepy and I have a meeting from 8:30 to at least 10:30 today...worried I may be falling asleep in it. My guess is the little one is growing like crazy since I can't seem to be not tired lately! Thank heavens it is Thursday already and I can get some good sleep this weekend. We have no plans. Yahoo!!

In need of some prayers....

My grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a few weeks ago, but radiation seemed to be going well and she was about to start chemo next week. She was hospitalized yesterday for a blood clot in her lung, and I guess at 1:30 this morning a piece of it broke off. They called the code team because they missed the "DNR" in her chart, so she's still with us for now, but it doesn't look like it's going to be much longer. Her O sat is off the charts.

Of course I'm working alone today and can't get ahold of anyone this early to see if they can come in and cover for me so I can go see her in the hospital. I hope I can get someone to come in for a few hours so I can go.

Just say some prayers. She's having a very hard time breathing so she's not very comfortable. Thanks so much girlies.

Hope you have a good day.

07-17-2008, 10:07 AM
Lisa many prayers for you!

07-17-2008, 10:11 AM
Kim we had a dog, our precious Scout (also some kind of lab mix) who had horribly dry skin. We ended up giving him "no shedding oil" on a piece of bread every day and it worked wonders for him. Pet stores, vets and feed stores usually have it.

Lisa, just saw your post. I'll be thinking about you. I know you must be frantic to leave work.

07-17-2008, 10:32 AM
Morning Ladies!!! Happy Thursday!
Cottage - Sounds like your day will be full and your little ones will be home safely. Enjoy hearing all of their stories!

Belle - Here's to having the words flow beautifully and clearly so that the book comes together quickly.

Ruth - Care to send some of your basil my way. We don't have room for an herb garden so to cook with fresh herbs costs an arm and a leg. And fresh basil is one of my favs. Hope all goes well at the vet.

Cat - Glad to hear that you like Shred 2 better. I hear it's a killer workout, all around. Enjoy the rest of your "exciting" day ;)

Pearlrose - My tonight' quiet be fruitful and peaceful.

Kim - You are a knitting queen. I'm sure your stuff is beautiful!

gonnabe - Hey there...hope all is well!

Stephanie - That "me time" sounds like a wonderful idea. I think you need to make it happen.

Jessie - Good luck staying awake in the meeting today. Try to get as much rest in as you can.

Weezle - Prayers headed your way. May you find peace today and may your Grandmother find comfort.

Me - Well last night was a little crazier than initially expected. I actually got home early yesterday, so I prepped lunch and had dinner pretty much ready to go when Rich got home. Which was very serendipitous as we ended up heading out of the house last night to meet with a car dealer. I had found the car that I wanted and had emailed the dealer to let him know I was interested. They said someone would call me soon. When I didn't hear from them I thought I'd call and see what was up. Good thing I did because he told me that they had SOLD both of the cars I was interested. I was devastated and heart broken. So back to the internet for research. We then found a dealership that had a bunch of the cars I was looking for, so we headed over. We haven't bought the car yet, but it's at the dealer waiting for me :) It will be mine on Sunday and I am SO HAPPY!!!
Have a good one, ladies!

Lisa -

Our thoughts are with you and your family.

07-17-2008, 11:12 AM
Lisa  my prayers are with you and your family

07-17-2008, 11:21 AM
DS and I spent the entire day yesterday with SIL and her two kids (3m and 2) and other SIL and her three kids (3,9,11). DH came over after work.
DS didn't nap all day yesterday and was really crabby....for whatever reason, he doesn't sleep at MIL's house.

I've decided to go over and visit with them after DH gets off of work so that DS can nap....I don't think I can take another day like yesterday ;) We're going out for pizza tonight.

07-17-2008, 11:44 AM
Lisa - sending lots of prayer your way. I hope you get a replacement at work soon!!

07-17-2008, 11:55 AM

i am sorry.

07-17-2008, 12:14 PM
Nessa - I'm sorry you're feeling low. Things will get better, you just have to hang in there.

07-17-2008, 12:22 PM
Ok, now Miss Nessa. You are not a bad girl!!
(oh, unless you WANT to be one and if you do, by all means carry on... wink wink!!)
You know the routine...forget yesterday and make it a good day today!!
Wish I could give you a hug and make it better.

07-17-2008, 12:30 PM
Lisa - You have my prayers.

Nessa - Just move on. You can do it.

I used to pluck the gray but now I cover it. I got my hair cut and colored it one day this week and it looks so much nicer now.

Brian was SOOO happy to have the Wii when he got home last night. We got it all set up and played Wii Sports last night until bedtime. I love the tennis and hate the baseball but Brian seemed to really like all the sports. We never even tried Wii Play or the Super Mario Galaxy. This morning we connected it to the wireless internet and read the news and weather off of it. I can't wait until I get the Wii fit!

07-17-2008, 12:39 PM
hmac good luck with the auto situation

Nessa  yesturday is in the past forget about it and concentrate on what you have control over and that is today - pick yourself up and move on

07-17-2008, 12:47 PM
Barb the WiiPlay is fun--cow racing is where it's at! LOL! We also like the fishing game.

Hugs to you both, Weezle and Nessa.

Weezle, I hope everything turns out fine with your grandmother. I am really sorry to hear about that. I know just how dear and precious a grandmother can be. *sends prayers your way* :)

Ladybugnessa, don't beat yourself up, remember, you said that you have had 87 clean eating days out of 92 (or something like that) which is amazing and probably more than most people can say. You'll get back up and dust yourself off and continue doing the wonderful job that you've been doing. You are inspiration to a lot of people doing the SBD. You're a really good role model for healthy eating and one binge isn't gonna change that. I hope everything gets better Ladybugnessa. :)

Everybody else, I hope you're all doing good and everything's fine in your lives (I admit, I just skimmed the posts.) I'm on day 3 and doing well... nervous about the custody trial on the 25th, (bf and ex-wife got their custody, but the grandmother who has connections, managed to get the judge to rescind it since she wasn't given notice of trial and supposedly fears for her grandchild's health and safety.. but doesn't give a d_mn about her grandson's, who is well and healthy, so she's gonna have to answer to that in court and answer about why she's tried to alienate the granddaughter's affection from her parents and brothers and other people in her life like me...) So wish us luck on that, this little girl deserves to be with her parents and brothers and whatever child it may be that ex-wife is pregnant with currently. We are all getting along wonderfully and it makes the grandmother look even worse since she refuses to get along with anyone.. with us, there would be no drama, with her, she tries to cut familial ties to keep the granddaughter all to herself... which we wouldn't do, ex-wife and ex-husband, those two are becoming good friends again (I will be mature and not jealous) and ex wife and I are getting along great and she told my BF (her ex husband) that I was a really good friend. So... I really hope things end up as they should be. And that's my overly dramatic life... lol.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday. I hope BF's mom will too. She's getting served with the notice of hearing papers today. :D Bwhahaha!

Barb0522, I am so glad to hear that your son got his Wii! I am excited for him! :D

07-17-2008, 01:54 PM
Good morning everyone! :)

Looks like there are a lot of  and prayers  needed out there today. Sending these to everyone! :)

My morning has been pretty uneventful thus far. I did the usual: dropped my daughter off at summer school, cooked breakfast, cleaned up, etc., etc. I have a few errands to run today for me and my Mom. She's in the hospital again due to some stomach problems. She recently had knee surgery and hasn't been eating as much as she should. The effects of taking her medication and not enough food to absorb them correctly didn't make her tummy too happy. They did an ultrasound and some other tests last night. Looks like she's gonna be there for a few days.

May you all have a Terrific Thursday!! :)

07-17-2008, 03:22 PM
Hi chicks,
got up early and had my meetings at Quantico this morning, back home now and starving for lunch.
DS is at his middle school orientation, can't wait until he gets home to see how it went.
DS and DD have horseback riding lessons tonight, it is stinking hot, I don't envy them! We will probably head straight for the pool for a quick dip after.
Starting to feel a little stressed because we plan to leave at 1:00 tomorrow for our vacation and there is still so much to do!
I have no idea what is for dinner, better go figure that out.

So, no time for all personals but wanted to say
 Nessa, you are a good girl. I have not done well this week either, but we know what to do, we will get back to it. I know well that day-after sadness. Have a good day today so you can feel better tomorrow.
 to Weezle, hope you were able to get to the hospital and that your grandmother is not suffering. My thoughts are with you.
Belle Mer, my DH is from Marseille, so we have spent several summers in Provence. It is a lovely area, although my appreciation would be greatly enhanced if we didn't have to stay with MIL while we are there.
Cat, I will add "mal du mer" to my list of important French stomach upset terms. Aforementioned MIL seems to have a lot of stomach issues and is frequently gonfle, barbouille, or mal a la foie (accents missing). It took me some studying to understand the slight but apparently very important differences in those conditions. Do the Creoles use any of those expressions? Gonfle is the one that seems to require that I poke her in the stomach. If she grabs my hand I know gonfle it is!

07-17-2008, 05:11 PM
Thoughts and hugs winging their way to Weezle today.

Nessa, now no beating yourself up. We all know the feeling.

The morning kind of deteriorated after the vet appointment as i stupidly locked my keys in the car! Duh! Dr Jim lent me his van so I could drive home and get my spare which worked well although I still had Good Food Stuff to deliver after that. I ended up having a BLT at the diner for lunch instead of my planned meal at home. Stuff happens!

Hersh is now back on thyroid and an anti-biotic for the sore spots on her elbows. We will check her again in a few weeks but are hoping to avoid a full panel bloodwork analysis. She can still use her pool.

Really hot and humid here today so I've not done any gardening, just puttering around indoors. I did manage a nap. It's amazing how even 30 minutes of just lying quietly can refresh me. You chickies should try it.

Time to make a grocery list and stock up for company and the Fair next week.

07-17-2008, 07:48 PM
barb-- watch your wii connecting to the internet. you can still pick up viruses, just like a computer. our son hooked ours up to the internet. he was looking into some sort of firewall for it. he's my computer geek. enjoy. i love mine.
