You have to have a subscription to the website to log any data from the sensewear. Worst-case, you could just rely on your digital display and keep track of the end of day totals on there, but the digital display isn't 100% real-time data (although the "yesterday" totals should be right.)
Doctors/gyms can buy the software program but it is VERY expensive.
You can wear it when you sleep- I recommend doing that to get a true readout of your calories burned. I know that I burn more calories in my sleep than the device would log for me if I wasn't wearing it (about 100 more), so I wear it all day.

I see, thank you! I am going to go with the sensewear and then just keep up the subscription. What is the whole sleep patterns thing with the sensewear? Does it tell you what your patterns are?

I just recieved my SenseWear today and was so excited to get started until I jumped into the instructions manual and it said to go to Sensewear.com and type in my username and password supplied in the Welcome email. I didn't get a welcome email :( Now this is going to delay my registration - a little frusterated since I've waited over a week for it to come! I know what the username is that I requested, anyone know if the password they supply you with is generic and what it may be so I can get started tonight! Thanks!
I am so sorry you don't have your password. My email came from CustomerSupport at Sensewear.com and it was the 2nd email I rec'd from them---the first was a copy of the sales invoice. I rec'd these emails a couple of days before I rec'd my order.
Have you checked your spam or junk mail folder? A lot of times I have emails from new senders end up in there!!
Today makes a total of 5 days wearing it and I hope I continue on the same path for the upcoming months---it is definately helping----it simply takes all the emotional judgemental crap out of the picture.
I have really noticed a issue with my sleep ---over the weekend it logged that I was "laying down" approx 7.5 hours each night (Fri and Sat) and it showed actual sleep time between 5.5 and 6.5 hours both nights----now for the past two nights (Sun and Mon) it still shows "laying down" at around 7.5 hours, but only 2 to 3 hours of actual sleep! I know I have been more stressed, tossed and turned, etc but 2 to 3 hours seems awfully low!!
What numbers are you guys seeing for sleep
I had a doctor's appt today and my blood pressue was in the reasonable range 156/84 --- I have to have blood work done and go back in two weeks to review the results. He is a cardiologist and was very interested in the Sensewear and is anxious to see if I have good results. I have had him as a doctor for a long time and he is very familiar with my long term weight problem!
I hope everyone has a great week!

Hi all,
I have a Bodybugg and have had it for some time now (about 6 months). I wear it off and on, usually determined by how motivated I am feeling. I have a wedding coming up in about a year, and I am working on losing about 60 lbs. I have a question about driving. My Bodybugg seems to pick up a lot of movement when I am in the car. I drive a stick shift, and my commute is an hour each way in heavy traffic, but it seems odd to be burning ~5 calories a minute while sitting in the car. While briskly walking, I only burn between 6 - 7 per minute. Has anyone else experienced this? I think it is throwing my daily total way off...
Thanks,
Dana

1. I'm just collecting calorie expenditure data.
2. It seems accurate within "range" - on high activity days the calories are much higher than on average days.
3. The calories per minute are based on the average of calories/time for a reset activity event (press reset button for 3 seconds).
Next week, when I have more control of calories (versus some dates and camping) in, I'll start inputting food intake to the log. Then I'll be able to see if the calorie deficit matches the weight loss.
So far I like the data I'm getting. I don't pay attention to steps. I have 5 pedometers of various levels of accuracy/expense and NONE of them are accurate as I've actually counted steps and known they were far off (worn all of them at the same time). I'm an engineer and like data. I think the 10,000 steps is just as arbitrary goal as 8 glasses of water a day. Just something for people to aim for. In order to get 10,000 a day you HAVE to do intentional exercise. (or have a long day of hiking with the kids like I did last weekend :) )
I'm excited to see what is going to happen as I start to track calories.

Based on the info available right now, the FitBit is an accelerometer, just like the device found in a Nintendo Wii remote. It's essentially a more accurate way to detect motion.
In my opinion, it sounds like a more precise, but also more expensive, pedometer. It lacks some of the sensors that the SW and BB have, so you're not going to get the most accurate results. Also, you're going to get more "average" readouts as far as calories burned, etc. Much like if you typed in "ran for 30 minutes" on a website to see how many calories you burned. For instance, the 3 additional sensors that the SW has: skin temp, heat flux, and galvanic skin response- play a huge role in giving you the most accurate calorie output results. At least at this time- I can't wait to see what's available a few years from now! :)
Anyways, if you don't want to fork over the cash for a BB or SW, then the FitBit seems like a nice alternative. I love using the Wii Fit, which utilizes the remote for certain activities, so I'm not anti-accelerometer. But, if you're looking for the most reliable data, I wouldn't go with a FitBit.

if you guys are expecting to lose the precise amount of weight every week like the bugg tells you..it ain't gonna happen.
so just keep that in mind. weight is affected by wayy too many factors to be used as a reliable indicator of FAT LOSS.

Yup, it is all just estimates. But if I see that I'm supposed to lose 5 pounds and I lose 1 and my percent body fat doesn't also go down? I'd think there is an issue.

I love the sensewear armband and software. I have hit my 10,000 steps each day but only with working out on the elliptical for an hour.
I am not sure how precise the calorie burn is, but as long as it is consistently measuring it using the same method ...which it should.. then I should be able to see some results. I just want to be able to manage my expectations.
I don't expect to have the weight loss that the website would indicate given the calorie deficit, but if I lose one pound this week I will be doing cartwheels. Weight loss is particularly difficult for my very short frame, and I will be more than happy with small steps as long as their is progress.
The best part about this is the accountability. I am possessed about uploading my armband and logging in my foods. I am fortunate that I can do this at work because we can download programs on our computers. So this helps keep me on track by doing it all day to find out where I stand.
I was in an all day meeting for the last two days which is a metabolism crusher. The good news is that I walked right past the cookies at the afternoon break because I knew I only could consume 300 or so calories for dinner. Now I am not new to calorie counting, but this seems so much more visible to me for some reason.
I will have to say that I have had issues with both the wireless receiver and uploading with the USB. The wireless receiver worked well the first day - no need to take off the armband to upload. But now it can't find the device. Haven't resolved that.
The other issue is that on my business trip earlier this week, I tried uploading the armband with a usb cable to my work laptop before going to bed and the armband died. No lights, no sound, nothing. However, the customer service group called me the next morning when I left an urgent email.
The help documents are not that helpful except for simple problems. The armband was acting like the battery was dead although I knew it wasn't having only worn it for 24 hours.
;)Write this down: If your armband is unresponsive even after pressing the status button, hold down the status button continuously for 10 seconds and release. This will "reboot" the armband, and it should come back up.
You may have to do this when the battery gets too low to recharge. Or like in my situation something interfered with the device and it shut down. If I had known that I could have rebooted, it would have saved me 12 hours of worrying if I had killed it or not. The good news is that all of the information was retained in the armband up until the moment it went down. At the next upload, everything was updated, and the website prompted me to enter the activities for the time it missed.
More to come ....

My armband needs to be synced several times a day as well.... I'm not sure if that's normal or not, but I just press on the button right through my sweater and it starts the display again. I'm liking my sensewear and my only disappointment is that the display doesn't show the correct calories burned per minute (the uploaded data shows up correctly) .. i usually have to reset trip to see what i'm burning per minute now.
I do have a question... how do you upload data wirelessly do you need to purchase a wireless device?? because mine won't upload unless i plug in the cable.

Updating wirelessly requires an additional device that you hook up to your computer with a usb cable. It is an additional part that you can order from bodymedia.
If you really want to update multiple times a day, then it is easier because you just press the button on your armband when you are within a few feet of your computer, and you never take off your armband.
However, if you are only going to upload once or twice a day, just stick with doing it via the cable and save the money (I think it was $99).
I have my wireless working again, but it can be problematic. I do love it when it is working because I don't have to take take my arm out of my long sleeve shirts to get the armband device popped out, and resynch my clip on device every time.

Hi, I am taking a plunge and getting the SW since it has the newer technology. The BB v3 will be the same (with the exception of the sleep monitoring that SW has). The tri-accelermonitor (spelling ? :dizzy:) piece helps track movement better than the v2 of BB. That is helping address the issues with stationery exercise, i.e., less movement of the arms. From research I've gathered that the database is more comprehensive as well with SW (hence the price differential). It has taken me a while to take the plunge because I am a control freak. SW is trying to address the customer service issues. You will soon be able to order directly from their website. I like this one because it really was more for a clinical setting and dr.'s and hostitals are using them so it isnt gimicky. Just my 2 cents!

Hi, i was just reading about SenseWear, a very interesting product. There is a site called myminifly.com that explains everything about the unit, from operation to the actual web portal screen shots. The site is complete and very informative. They even have a customer support line to answer your questions, i've called and the support was excellent. They actually recommended various ways to use the technology to your advantage. I would check out the site. I've lost 40 lbs since using the armband, it's great. It's fun using the Trip meter on the display to actually see the expenditures related to a specific event. My husband burnt 2231 calories alone cutting down a tree. It's fun. We both love it and have had a great time seeing and monitoring the results.

I reset my trip before getting on the elliptical last night to compare the calorie burn and number of steps between each.
The armband was off and lower on the number of steps by about 10%. I know that the step count on the elliptical is accurate. I am sure it is because my left arm may not be moving as much as it would if I were actually walking particularly when I let go of the moving handles and rest them periodically.
As everyone has said the calorie burn was drastically different as the workout machines tend to inflate your results. The Armband measured about 55% of what the elliptical said I burned. I am going to wear the Polar heart rate monitor and compare that to the mix too.

OK- I started having issues with my display not syncing with the device yesterday. I did the 10 second restart and thought all was well today until I decided to upload the data. I've had a 1.1-1.4 calorie output since yesterday (around the time it wouldn't sync with the display) and that included kettle bell training and a 3.2 mile run. Soooo, I've plugged it into my laptop to charge and I'll try it again tomorrow.
I hate to add myself to list of people that have had a serious hiccup with this device, but I'm close to doing it.
Oh, and wouldn't you know that I realized I had a problem right after the office closed today for the weekend. :dizzy:

I've been wearing a bugg for 2 1/2 months now and want to make some comments on my own experience but first wanted to address a few posts:
Hi all,
I have a Bodybugg and have had it for some time now (about 6 months). I wear it off and on, usually determined by how motivated I am feeling. I have a wedding coming up in about a year, and I am working on losing about 60 lbs. I have a question about driving. My Bodybugg seems to pick up a lot of movement when I am in the car. I don't know about the car situation - you may want to let THEM know about that since they continue to do updates for various activities detected - that does seem off. Your numbers for your weight for brisk walking are actually pretty high. I'm 185ish right now and when I run I average around 6cpm burn. Brisk walking for me is 3-3.5. So count yourself lucky in that respect!
if you guys are expecting to lose the precise amount of weight every week like the bugg tells you..it ain't gonna happen.
so just keep that in mind. weight is affected by wayy too many factors to be used as a reliable indicator of FAT LOSS.
Have you actually used it yourself? What are you basing this on? I've been using it for 2 1/2 months and my overall numbers are within 5%. From a week to week basis, it isn't representative but over a 4 week period it is VERY accurate.
I use a Polar F11 for cardio along with my bugg. Machines will tell me I burned almost double my bugg, the Polar F11 shows around 50% more burned than the bugg. I have no doubt that HRM's would be unreliable showing my burn. My doc agreed with this. I have a very low resting heart rate - 57-58 bpm. I've been in exceptionally good physical condition most of my life and the bulk of my weight gain was in a 1 year time frame. (I went from 145 to 205.5 from June of last year to June of this year - it started when being put on Prednisone for a short period of time.) The problem for me is that the extra weight on my body accelerates my heart rate very fast. For example, when I jog 5 mph, my hr jumps to max within a minute or so. I think my heart thinks I'm doing it while carrying an extra 40 lbs or so on my back hehe So the burn rate cannot be accurate for me personally.
To relate my own history with the bugg. I got it because charting my BMR and supplemental activities were not giving me an accurate picture of what I should have been losing. Yes, I did remove my BMR calories from the extra activities to try and be accurate. But it didn't work. The HRM also didn't work and as we know, it isn't effective for tracking burn for strength training and some types of sports.
My own idea was that even if the bugg was inaccurate, I could make adjustments on my own to what I was seeing so that I could get a better handle on what I needed to do in order to lose weight.
Right after getting the bugg, my weight loss as far as the SCALE went came to a screeching halt. I had lost around 15 lbs in 6 weeks or so. Then for 6 weeks I pretty much stayed the same. HOWEVER the deficit shown by my bugg when comparing to body fat rather than scale alone are within 5% accuracy. Let me explain ---
Even though I wasn't losing weight on the scale, my lean body mass changed tremendously. When I started to lose weight, I was at around 43% body fat. When I started with the bugg I was at 32%. I'm currently at around 28%. The bugg deficits correlate exactly to this when considering 1 lb of fat loss is 3500 calories, 1 lb of muscle increase correlates to 500 extra calories and the change in the water I am carrying (39% up to 42% now) makes up the rest of the difference. The numbers have almost exactly balanced out for me. For the water percentage, I'm basing that on one of the higher end tanita's which have matched dunk test results.
Figuring this out goes a bit beyond what the normal bugg reporting does. In a way, I feel it has given me more control and in other ways, it's made me realize how much less control we have over WEIGHT loss (as opposed to fat loss) compared to what I thought. ie I can say I will burn so many calories through exercise and consume so many and will lose X pounds of fat based on this. However I cannot say what other shifts will happen in terms of the percentage of water weight I am carrying or muscle gain so knowing what the scale will say is a different story.
I have found through ongoing use that some activities are off a little in their burn rate. For example, rollerskating for me is underestimated a bit and tennis is a little overestimated.
A few other remarks - for sleeping I keep it on all the time. More because it helps me measure the quality of sleep I'm getting. If I see steps in my sleep, that is a sign I had poor quality sleep. So I look at what I did the previous day and try and make adjustments based on that. In the early days I didn't wear it consistently to sleep and that would set my overall burn off a little.
For normal activities, I've found the step counter part to be accurate. I use a wii fit from time to time and the numbers for free step are within 5 count of what the bugg says (and given I'll do around 1200 steps in a 10 minute period, I think that's a pretty reasonable error margin). I've compared it to an Omron for walking/running and it's been accurate within 0.5%. At faster speeds on a TREADMILL, I find it can be off a little more because I don't move my arms at the same pace my legs move. I don't use an elliptical now but when I did in the past and used an Omron, it was off as is. Any pedometers are known to be off for elliptical and bikes when used out of the box. Even with the Omron, you'd need to do a 100 step test to match it properly. The bugg doesn't have such a sensitivity feature so you have to make adjustments accordingly.
A few other observations - when I had a high temperature for a couple of days, my bugg showed a burn at a very high rate. Overall - and I was inactive those couple of days - I burned at much being inactive as I did with a normal workout thrown it. But at the end of the week, the numbers balanced out. I really don't like the manual adjustment part when you aren't wearing the bugg. Swimming for example put in a burn rate much higher than I know I burned. I did wear my Polar for swimming and the adjustment in the Apex interface showed more than my Polar burn did even. So I know that was off. The best post workout burn I have seen has been from when I do HIIT. I'd see my resting burn rate be higher for up to 20 hours after a session. I had asked my bugg coach about this during my free call and she said that HIIT does have this effect.
On pricing - if you have a local 24 hour fitness and know someone else locally that wants a bugg too, I suggest going to the manager and seeing what kind of deal you can strike. My partner and I got our buggs for $220 each including the display. They are still making money at that price, so don't feel bad about trying to negotiate.
With everything I wrote, I am not implying by any means that the bugg is a perfect tool for everyone. It has made me more accountable and I definitely know I won't be without it for the duration of my weight loss journey. Even knowing that a 5 lb loss decreases my burn rate for doing the same activities and by how much is useful for me. If you've not gathered this from my post, I'm also a tool junkie and don't believe that any one tool completes the picture. But the tools and monitoring steps I take combined are really helping me stay on track rather than just using the scale alone as a judge. I am motivated but I know that if I had gone 2 months of maintaining what I thought was a calorie deficit and seeing NO change at all on the scale, I'd have been ready to throw in the towel. Knowing that my body FAT loss was happening was crucial for me not only to stick with it but to actually increase my motivation.
Sorry for being so long winded :)

Based on users posting on this particular forum, it seems like SW has more problems, but I wouldn't say we're the best representative group. SW doesn't have it's own forum, but if you go to the BB forum, you'll see lots of users on there that have had problems.
And, no, the wireless sync device doesn't come with SW. I wouldn't consider that a rip-off though- it's pretty painless to just upload via USB (which has a nice "normal" input, unlike a lot of devices these days.) Does BB come with a wireless sync device?

Yes, it is included. However after the first 3 weeks or so I went to using USB. it says right there in the manual to NEVER plug it in while it's on your arm..meaning when it's active.
and yes i have used it for the last 3 months. that's what i was basing it off on.
i stopped wearing it since i kind of figured out my body and how much calories i burn during a typical day. i still use the food logging since it's an easy way to track daily intake. i might get back to wearing it once the new one comes out but the current one is just too bulky to be wearing anywhere now. especially college. haha

Justin, reread what I wrote. I was saying to make sure it actually beeps AFTER it is removed from your arm. It can take *several* minutes for this to happen. I know a few other people who hadn't been aware of this and also had the unpleasant experience of their computers just rebooting.

Just read the stream of posting concerning BB & SW. This summation reflects an extensive amount of reading over the past six months. The units are the same from an algorythm perspective, the portals are different. The sync issues relate to understanding how sync works. Transmitting the data to the wireless or to the display is the same process. Today there are two different models, the larger one that uses the replacable battery is older, the new armband uses a rechargable battery. Most problems that relate to the older model stem from a low battery, there are a few tricks to know which would ease most of the problems listed above. I use the myminifly.com site for technical reference. I believe this site also references technical data concerning the older unit. HRM & exercise equipment offer a good estimate of calories burned but SW & BB use multiple sensors to better define the activity, for which i would conclude increased accuracy. On the hand, if using SW or BB the data collected is constant and repeatable. If considered as the baseline, increased activity or less activity will be reflected consistantly, my goal, whoever is truly the most accurrate, is to improve activities, it needs to be based on a single source. Since SW & BB measure all activities 24 X 7 I put my trust in the technology. I do prefer SW over BB. If you find the right source, SW offers more flexibility, the key is truly understanding how the technology works and what it's based upon.

Well today is 10 days using the Sensewear!!
For several days last week I was out of town at a conference and had little control over my schedule or my meals (meals were provided)--anyway, I will admit even wearing the Sensewear did not keep me from eating a piece of pecan pie for dessert and a few other things that would not be found on a well planned diet list.
However, for the first time in my entire life, I sought out and found the hotel fitness center and went every night---normally when I'm out of my normal routine and at a conference it is like having a free pass to indulge!!! I could see on my display that by 5:00pm my total steps were only around 3500 and total calories burned were around 1500------just knowing these numbers and that I had consumed extra calories encouraged me to take some sort of control and I went to the fitness center. I still didn't hit 10,000 but I did get over 9000 steps each day which for me is reallly good!!!
I could not log my calories consumed but I did write them down and log them when I got home. The final result was no weight gained and no weight lost which in reality is a huge good thing----almost like getting thru Thanksgiving or Christmas without gaining!!
I really believe that it has done a lot to motivate me --- it doesn't beat me up or taunt me nor does it judge (like the scale) when I've messed up---it simply provides me with very valuable in-time information and allows me to decide what I want to do with it! I have been fighting weight loss for most of my adult life and constantly for the past 26 years (I'm 46) and in the short period of time I have had my Sensewear I have found it to be the most useful tool !!
I have not had any major issues with using it, however, the site does not seem to like AOL and at times will not find the Sensewear software, so I just use IE when I log in to Sensewear.com.
I also have found that my display goes out of sync at times but I think this primarily happens when I adjust or move the armband and it loses contact with my arm----it only takes a second to re sync and all is well !
For those of you who use the Sensewear and sleep with it, could you post how much actual sleep you are getting? It can show that I'm lying down for 6.5 hours but only sleeping 4.5 hours with some time slots completely blank for 20 or 30 minutes ---like I'm not lying down or sleeping-----have any of you noticed this?
Thanks for all of the posts----I really enjoy reading how everyone is doing with their SW and BB. Without all of the input found here I seriously doubt I would have ever taken the plunge and made the purchase!!!

My armband states that I sleep more than I actually do. It actually captures all the time that I am lying down from when my head hits the pillow until I get up.
I actually wake up (I toss and turn) during the night but try not to look at the clock or I will never get back to sleep.
I was hoping that it would pick up that I was waking up through one of the many sensors but because I am still attempting to lie very still and fall back asleep, it captures that time as sleeping.

I have dieted or "watched what I ate" for over 20 years. I know how many calories are in all the foods I eat, and have been working out for the last few years for 30 minutes to an hour most days ... with absolutely no weight loss.
I am not a binger and I don't go crazy with any type of food. A couple of bites of chocolate will do it for me and I can talk myself out of eating a whole candy bar with guilt. My downfall is bread and pasta, but still I can moderate myself. It is always out the portion size.
With this device I feel like I have a shot at losing the weight, and I haven't felt this empowered or in some ways as happy about myself as I have since I put this thing on. In fact I have been working on cleaning out my closet for the last couple of hours. I am pretty organized but when you start looking at it, you tend to wear the same things over and over with the rest collecting dust. Half of it is now in the donation pile.
Moved on to the next room and plan to tackle those other closets next. Nice thing is I burned an extra 200 calories by getting rid of some of this stuff. Usually we wait until Spring to start cleaning out the closets and sorting through items for Goodwill, but good to get ahead of it particularly with the holidays coming up.
more to come....

Your welcome concerning the posting of myminifly.com. The site belongs to a friend of a friend that does provide support for the SenseWear armband. That's how I got to know about SenseWear and how to use the provided tools. I'm under the impression they represent SenseWear to Corporate Wellness, Hospitals, and other health related industries. It's a great site with all the ins and outs concerning the units operation... Whenever i have questions i do refer to the site. Glad to hear you were very pleased with what the site has to offer. Definately beats calling Bodymedia or emailing, as i've noticed in the email streams, they seem to be customer focused.

myminifly is a Healthy Innovations Inc website (I think they are one of if not the primary reseller of the Sensewear unit)

OK- anyone who is considering purchasing the SenseWear needs to buy it from myminifly.com. Even though I did not purchase it from them, I decided to give them a call and see if they could help me with my faulty unit. I spoke with the owner and he immediately agreed to help me and spent the next 30 minutes telling me how to reset the device through the website and giving me tips on how to better utilize the device.
I really wish I had known about this distributor- I truly believe in the device and I know that Body Media is being bombarded with orders/calls right now. BUT, after 3 days with no device, being able to speak to a live person in seconds with only one phone call- well, that's just priceless to me.

I really love updating wirelessly at home - no need to dig out my arm from the long sleeve shirts that I am wearing now that it is cooling off.
It is a little frustrating that it will work fine wirelessly one time and then not the next. I can tell if it "isn't going to go" if it takes awhile to discover the com port.
My fixes are to move the cordless phone and/or cell phone further away from the wireless receiver.
Also have noticed if I get impatient and hit the status button again too soon then it locks up the wireless receiver.
Everything always works when I reboot the computer and it seems to reset the receiver. However that is annoying.
If anyone else knows a quicker solution to this problem let me know.

Yes, you need the subscription still to track your progress, print reports, etc. It is really not very helpful without it - in my opinion.
If anyone is interesed in ordering the SW - go to their website and click on "order wms sensewear now". The order form is now uploaded to the site. Do NOT expect a quick turn around but it will be quicker than waiting for someone to get back to you with a price.

Buy from Myminifly.com NOT Body Media
My sensewear seemed to have completely shut down, after reading about myminifly.com I went to the website, but still couldn't find the answer. I called the number listed and didn't even bother leaving a message. Matt (from myminifly.com) STILL called me back at 7:30 tonight and walked me through the steps to fix my unit. Apparently I had accidentally put it into reboot mode because I held the gray button down for longer than a minute. He was SOO helpful and walked me through every step - he's a sensewear genius! If I was going to buy again, I would definitely go through him!! I, before knowing about his site, bought through BodyMedia, where you cannot get ANY assistance or anyone to answer your questions. Thanks Matt!!

Unfortunately, my unit has a stuck accelerometer, so I'm just awaiting the return address label so I can send it back.
As far as the tips- he told me about resetting the trip feature to see exactly how many calories are outputted for whatever activity I'm about to start. This information might be in the manual, but I only skimmed over it. There were other things we also talked about, but I can't think of anything else specific at the moment. I'll update if I remember anything. :^:

After two weeks, I am down 4 pounds. Outlook is still good and hope that I can continue with at least a pound down a week for awhile to keep up a positive momentum.
I have kept food journals before, but this has made me much more disciplined.
I can get to my number of steps and calorie levels easily on the weekends when I move around more. At work after a whole day, I am at a huge deficit for both. The only thing that makes me hit the numbers is to work out very hard on the elliptical.
Going to try and start walking a little during lunch next week to help offset the sitting all day. Don't attempt to use the time as cardio, but just to get the numbers up

When I order the sensewear, will it come with all the usb stuff or do I need to order that seperately?
It will come with 2 armbands (med. & large I believe) and a usb cable. If you get the digital display, it comes with the watch piece and a belt clip (which I use primarily).
It does NOT come with a wireless uploader nor a coaching session like bodybugg.
So far it is pretty cool for me but I am disspointed with the website. It is underdeveloped in my opinion - however, the basic metric readouts are extremely cool. The sleep read out is awesome. It tells me how much I am 'not' sleeping. And it registered my nap yesterday... Cool. I will still be sending in my strong suggestions to the company about the site though. The device itself is really tiny which was a bonus.
I am still trying to get used to it and figure out what will work for me. I am not sure how much to eat yet. I may need to try for smaller goals but we will see... will update as I go... Tuesday is my weigh in day..

Working on day 15 or 16 now and still encouraged.
I have read a few posts about the calorie burn for exercise versus non-exercise time.
However, today I took a brisk 40 minute walk with a colleague during lunch today and the calorie burn, MET, and calorie burn per minute numbers were all the same if not slightly higher than what I call my vigorous one hour elliptical workout each night. I am not sure I understand this. I didn't break a sweat during the walk but was heated toward the end. My elliptical workout is very intense and there is no way it can be the same.
Has anyone experienced this? Any possible theories? Is the armband too tight and can't effectively measure temperature or whatever else for the intense workout. There is an absolute day and night difference between the quick stroll today and the "about to die" workout.

The measurement is in calories burned and consumed. The food log typically asks for the serving size to be measured in grams or fluid ounces unless the food is already in the bodymedia library.
Hope that helps

I couldn't be happier although I have had a rough few days (long all day -non moving around meetings) this week. Everything is working fine except I am starting to experience what a few others have said. My device and armband don't easily synch up for some reason. At first it did so easily and now I have to press down multiple times on the armband and today I haven't gotten it to synch up at all.
I like the device because it helps me guage where I am and I love the trip function. Also, it makes me feel assured that the armband is recording data.
I decided to send the folks at minifly an email to see if they could help me out - I have rebooted the device by holding down all 4 buttons. Even though I didn't buy from them, I am hoping they can help.
If anyone else has had and then figured out this problem, would love to hear how you did it.

The syncing to the digital readout seems to be getting better (or maybe I'm getting accustomed to it?). But it takes FOREVER to log into the site and sometimes I can't get on.
I love the data I'm getting but I'm a gear head so that makes sense. Others might not like it as much. It does show that the stress I'm under is causing me to sleep about 4.5 hours a night..... which I probably "know" but seeing it in print is making it much more clear.

hi all,
a quick note about problems with syncing with the monitor. apparently the plastic they were using had some issues, and can develop tiny cracks that will interfere with the SW's ability to sync and/or upload. i called (left VM) and they got back to me a few days later (yeah, i know...) but it was to let me know that the problem had been corrected and a new device and monitor was on its way. haven't had any issues since.

yep, got a brand new armband AND monitor. plus 6 more months of the subscription to make it right. they're not the speediest with the customer service, but i have to give them credit for the way they handled this.
if you are having syncing or uplaoding problems, it's worth checking the back of the device for hairline cracks. if you see them, SW should replace the unit for you.

I want one of these so bad. I have looked on ebay but I am currently between jobs and know I just cant afford it. Plus I know DH will just say that what I am doing is working so why do I need that, but I already have my argument ready. He had his toys. Lot of electronics and video games. I want my toys. So I'm going to ask for it for Christmas but I know its probably not going to happen unless I get a job soon. Heres to hoping.

I have mostly lurked in this thread up to this point, but I just want to say thank you to everybody for all the input on the Sensewear device. I ummed and ahhed about investing, but finally caved and sent off my order form. Sensewear was pretty quick to ship, once I logged in to the website I noticed that my last name had been set up incorrectly. I emailed the CS address at bodymedia to have it corrected and Susan took care of it within an hour. I was very impressed.
I had my second weigh-in this morning (so I'm on day 14) and I'm down 3 pounds...no exercise (I've been very lazy lately!) so I've just been counting calories. Seeing the reports motivates me enormously and being aware of the band strapped to my arm keeps me honest *lol*
I'm getting a rowing machine delivered tomorrow, which I'm so excited about. I also have an elliptical machine at home, but I was getting bored with it and losing motivation. I go through phases where I hit the gym but I've been so stressed out and tired lately that I haven't been going so I'll be very glad to have another option to do cardio at home.
Thanks again everybody and best of luck to all!

I've sent out e-mails for help and everytime I e-mail they repley and tell me to reboot and reregister my sensewear and than I loose all my data. I'm getting so frustrated I have to call the long distance number tomorrow (bought it through minifly) and see if I can get answers. I had to work a lot of extra hours to get this and my Hubby is pretty mad right now, that I spent extra money on something that isn't working!!

That I did talk with Matt at Minifly and they are going to be sending me a new unit as mine seemes to be extremly whacked out, and they are also sending me a wireless transmitter for free for all the trouble. I received my SW this past Thursday and I am in love! I too have struggled with weight issues, etc. since adolescence and am finding this to be an incredibly helpful, motivating, tool. It's also fun! I'd be happy to share my experiences thus far (albeit not much so far!) and am glad to have found this thread with all of you (thanks Jeanie!) This past week while researching BB vs. SW I also came across the Beck Diet Solution and I really believe that the combination of this device and that program (it's not really a diet but a way of changing negative thought patterns, etc.) will be life altering for me.

I am still holding at 6 pounds lost although I think I should be down 7 to 8. I had a bad week where I was traveling and my input and output matched which means no weight loss.
I have learned to export my data every 3 weeks or so because you can only export the prior 28 days. Being the data driven person that I am, I am dumping the data so I will have it versus losing it. According to all my inputs and outputs I should be down 7.2 pounds at this point so I am off by a pound.
Probably not so bad in the big picture, but I felt really good losing at least a pound a week.
I am still stunned at how little I burn on a weekday versus a weekend day. There is a 600 to 800 calorie difference. That explains so much as to why my weight continued to creep higher and higher.
I am trying to walk at lunch at work (2 miles around a park). Walking 3 miles or so each weekend day, and supplementing with a few miles on the elliptical 4 days a week.
I tried a Zumba class yesterday, and it was awesome!!!!
Latin rhythms, easy to do, lots of women in there just like me. Very few in-shape intimidators. I burned 400 calories in an hour although by the end I wasn't jumping around as much. Once I learn the steps, I think my caloric burn will go up because I will hopefully also build up my endurance so that I can be a little more energetic.

I'm delurking to share some new info. I e-mailed Apex about if/when they were going to release a Mac compatible bodybugg. This is the response I received:
Thank you for contacting Apex.
The Version 3 will be coming out in December and will be MAC compatible. We have not been given an exact date, please keep checking bodybugg.com for details. If you have any questions please contact me.
Thank you,

I'd been contemplating buying the Sensewear and occasionally using my mom's PC or possibly running some sort of Bootcamp/Windows combo. But with this info I'm definitely going to be purchasing the new bodybugg in December instead.
Now if only Sensewear would release a Mac version at the same time as BB and I'd be ecstatic.

When I went to order my Senswear, the person I spoke with told me about this product. Unfortunately, it seems the one major difference is that you can only change your calories consumption every 3 days. So, basically, it's assuming you're eating a certain # of calories on average for at least 3 days at a time. I personally decided it was worth the extra $ to be accountable everyday. I do hope that there are a lot of people out there that can now afford this great product and still reap plenty of benefits from what it is capable of doing (does this make any sense?)

This is changing my life. Although I am only down 7 pounds in 6 weeks, I could never do this before with diet and exercise.
I underestimated the amount of calories I was burning before. Knowing how many calories that I am actually burning has been the key for me.
I do continue to get frustrated with little things (armband and clip on device not synching without a dozen button presses, wireless updating working periodically. But after conversing with the minifly people, I think it is because of all the other radio or electronic interference with cellphones, blue tooth devices, computers, etc.
I have to log my calories/meals all day as I consume them. I cannot load them at the end of the day because it is too easy to go over the target that way.
I also upload the armband 3 to 4 times a day. Before going to work in the morning, usually after lunch, when I get home, and before I go to bed.
The clip on device is critical for me to help me know where I stand during the day so I can change or switch things up if need be.

At this point I'm just wondering what would be best in terms of the functions & monthly subscription...has the monthly fee with SENSEWEAR gone down ? $ 20/month seems little expensive in comparison to what BodyBugg offers. Any thoughts or suggestions please.

I had wondered about all the devices that could be interfering. I don't lose sync now that I wear the digital display on my bra strap. I notice that on TBL they wear the display on the arm band itself.
I've only been uploading once a day and logging in 1-2 times a day. Do you have software installed on multiple computers in order to log food all day? I'm not sure if I'd be able to install on my work computer (limits to what they'll let me install) but if I can install on multiple computers I wouldn't mind logging food as I go. I keep my ww journal (except the last two weeks which shows!! because I'm up 5 pounds with no exercise and overeating - but I know how many calories I'm burning!!).

Clearly my impulsive nature has migrated from eating to shopping. I've been eating very few calories and excercising like a fiend for the last 2 weeks, but I have never felt like I had an accurate gauge of how many calories I was burning, etc. I have a really high BMI (49-50) and the calculators only account for weight and age ... not height.
Anyway ... someone mentioned bodybugg ... that brought me here. Ive been reading this post for 2 hours ... that led me to Sensewear ... that led me to myminifly.com ... and that led me to buy the Sensewear and 6 months of service.
Hurray for stimulating the economy in my small small way! I cannot wait to get this new gadget.

The bodybugg is the greatest device EVER!!!! Do not hesitate, the prices are very low right now and you will never find an easier way to lose weight. It's just simple math. Eat less and move more. The support from the coaching session was awesome and I know I can keep the weight off...finally....for the first time in my life, I am in control!!!

I totally agree! I have been wearing mine for ten weeks now and have seen weight loss every week. I too believe that I will finally lose the weight this time and feel completely in control. I still have to watch what I eat and exercise but I now know exactly what I need to do each day to lose weight and am excited about the future.

Thank you all for this information. I am considering buying one of these products and your input is such a help.
How long are the straps on the Sensewear and Bodybugg? I am afraid that they won't fit on my arm. I could not find the info on their web sites.

Hi time2lose, The Bodybugg comes with two straps and I wore the larger one when I first started wearing it 10 weeks ago but have since moved onto the smaller strap. The larger one measures approx. 20 inches when attached to the Boddybugg and they are stretchy....I'm sure they would absolutely fit. Hope that helps!

Just an FYI...plenty of gyms--especially Mom & Pop Gyms rent this gear..supposedly, you only need a typical week to determine what you need to differently..I haven't rented one yet but will as my weight gets closer to goal

Ok I am just catching on to this. We don't have 24 hour fitness here in MA and my mom gave me a gift card for the holidays. It looks like senswear is 467 with a 1 year membership and the display. I think I like this one the best of the 3. GoWear, bodybugg being the other 2. It seems to have the best of all 3 with the sleep/food and calories out/in and size.
Now I need to take the plunge...any last words of advice?
Oh and how long does the battey last.

I've had my Sensewear for about 3 weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I LOVE it! As far as the battery, I assume you're asking about the lifetime of the battery. When I asked about this I was told that it should last at least a couple of years. I was a bit frustrated with not knowing exactly how long and knowing that it was only guaranteed to last 1 year (it's under warranty that long), but decided to let go and not worry about it.
As far as how long the battery lasts between charges, I find it lasts a LONG time. I hardly charge mine (just leave it plugged into the computer after I upload, while taking a shower, etc.) and I have never had it even go to a low battery. I was also assured by customer service that it is NOT the type of battery that needs to be run down to nothing and then fully charged in order to work optimally. This battery has no "memory" and she actually warned me against letting it run down too low.
Good luck and I hope you love it as much as I do!

My friend sent me one of these just as I about give up once and for all, and yes it did make me accountable which was a great motivator!! After 23 days, I've lost 20lbs also due to the addition of a wonderful protein shake & supplement plan I started - it's so easy I love it! (I'd like to share the name and details - anyone interested, just email me) - anyway accountability both in my increased exercise with the monitor and this easy plan, and I FINALLY feel like I'm on my way!!

Sorry, haven't checked this thread in awhile. Down 8 lbs now - slowly but surely and starting to be a little noticeable on my small frame.
I am fortunate that I can download software on my work PC so I log my food two or three times a day. Had a tough time while I was traveling over the holidays. I kept my food count in a spiral notebook with no internet access to even look at calorie counts. So last week was a wash overall. Calories in equalled calories out for the most part once I uploaded everything.
I noticed that the Biggest Loser contestants clip their device to their armbands. With colder weather that makes it hard for me to get to under the sweater. So I wear it on my waist. I just keep pressing the armband button until it synchs up which seems to take 2 to 3 cycles meaning it goes back to clock mode at least two times with multiple armband presses each time.
I have given up on uploading wirelessly. It worked too intermittently and was just more trouble than it was worth.
Again the sensewear armband is worth every penny for me. I know 8 pounds doesn't seem like much but for me it is 5% of my weight. I would not have been able to lose this without it and the proof is that I didn't before.
My low metabolism - 1300 calories without activity and 1600 with my normal sedentary work day and no exercise - was a realization for me that I didn't have before. I thought I was burning 2000 a day so with a "diet" of 1500, I thought I should lose a pound a week. Wasn't happening because the "diet" was in fact my "maintenance" caloric intake. Would stick with this "diet" and exercise for a few weeks with NO change, and would thus give up.
Still excited but wish I could create a 700 to 1000 calorie a day deficit to lose 1.5 to 2 pounds a week. Not realistic for me unless I eat less than 1000 calories a day which just won't work or workout 2+ hours a day.
bennyhannahmama
12-03-2008, 10:29 PM
I've been using my Sensewear for a few weeks now (and absolutely LOVE it!) and I have a few questions for others that have been using it.
How much of a deficit have you found that you can have and continue to lose weight? I chose all the default values for me which is 1850 goal for expenditure and 1350 intake for a deficit of 500 calories per day. I seem to be averaging closer to 700-750 per day and am losing steadily. I know that when you reach a certain point, your body thinks you're in starvation mode and will hold onto weight. I don't want to hit that point!
Also, I'm wondering if there is any difference in deficits reached from extra activity vs. less food. So for example, if I get a 1000 calories deficit because I only eat 350 calories (I would never do that, just using this as an example) vs. if I expended 2850 calories (this has happened on days that I'm doing a bigger run).
Finally, I'm also wondering about activity goals, step count, etc. Again, I went with the default that the computer gave me which is 30 min. moderate activity, 15 minutes vigorous activity and 10,000 steps. I almost always am above target (45 minutes) for the total activity goal, but a couple of days per week (usually the days I don't do a formal workout) don't meet the "vigorous" goal. Same thing with step count, on the 2 days per week I work, I usually don't meet the step count goal, but I do meet the 45 minute overall exercise goal.
Does anyone have any insight as to if this makes a difference?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts, opinions, experiences, etc.!

Is the company reliable.
What is the best membership plan to take, meaning how many months, 1 year is the best price at 10 a month.

I think it turns out that all three are made by the same company, but BB and GW have different features while the SW has all of the features. So my guess is that they all work the same, the data enrty is the same but the features are different although the all do cals in/out.
Does that help?

curious about anyone else's response to bennyhannamama's questions - i have the same questions myself! i'm guessing that the same deficit with a higher in/out rate (the 2800 burn example) would be better, but i have no evidence one way or the other, since my loss is so sporadic. really good questions, though!

I have been doing research for a while on all the options and here is what I have determined to be the differences:
Sensewear - Most expensive, Small size, Tracks calories spent, Tracks sleeping & Site allows calories eaten to be logged.
Bodybugg V2 - Mid-expensive, Larger size, Tracks calories spent, Does Not track sleeping & Site allows calories eaten to be logged.
Bodybugg V3 - Still waiting for details but suppose to be smaller (possibly in-line with Sensewear & GoWear Fit).
GoWear Fit - Least expensive, Small size, Tracks calories spent, Tracks sleeping & Site Does Not allows calories eaten to be logged (only every three days).
Hope my breakdown helps, I still have not decided which one is the best for me....

Hi Guys/Gals,
Just thought I'd drop in to share my results. I have been using the Bodybugg V2 for a couple months now. Overall the experience is wonderful and I have lost 30.9 pounds, 28% of my goal and 10.5% of my weight.
There are times when I doubt the bodybugg's accuracy. This thing is not 100% so do not be too discouraged if you weigh in and it's not what you expect every week. They will always make the claim that it is either bodily fluids or you not logging calories correctly, BUT don't forget the bodybugg can have just as much to do with it.
That said, I had a couple weeks where I only lost a pound and some change instead of 3 pounds. That made me angry so I began to excessively exaggerate my calorie consumption and things have been fine, I've lost over my goal weight which is great.
My main strategy has been to focus on my diet. I eat 1800 calories a day. My target deficit is 1500 calories. In the beginning I was able to achieve this with little extra work, but nowadays I have taken up to jogging in place. Jogging or walking in place while watching TV is as good as going to a gym, and it's free and way more convenient. In the beginning of it I could barely jog for a few minutes, a couple weeks later I can do over 20.
So, if you're wondering about the Bodybugg (or the alterations thereof), I'd say take the plunge. You will not regret it. I am losing weight a lot slower than I am used to, but I feel like I am learning about my body and can keep it off this time. If you don't have the money for it, save up! Stop buying expensive Starbucks coffee or other leisure items like movies-- do whatever it takes, because your health is worth a lot more than that in the long run.

I was going to buy a BodyBugg through Body Breakthru (which BodyBugg is used with the Biggest Loser - not that that matters) and was told to wait as the new one is suppose to come out in January - it will be around $199 with 3 months free then around $10 a month - it will be smaller. I have a list written down but it's at home. Another company bought BodyBugg which is why there are changes. I like the $199 price and wondered as I was going to buy it a few months ago when it was $249. I'm curious to find out if it keeps track of the sleeping part though. That was never mentioned. I think it will be a wonderful tool. I have been using Fitday for years but am taking a break from that - hasn't helped me in the weightloss department.

I am wondering if there is yet another company who subcontracts with Bodymedia? I found a device that looks just like bodybugg and is on a website by an author of Crack the Fatloss Code, Wendy Chant. They have a bodybugg looking gadget called "BodySense" by Welnia. I can't find anywhere to buy it.
In doing research for Bodybugg and trying to learn about them, I found a device coming out next year called "Fitbit" for $100. Fitbit has a website just like the name of the product. The men who designed it are geeks from a techy background. It looks very interesting, but again, it's not yet being sold.
Fitbit doesn't require any monthly fee. That's what has me interested in it the most. $100 and no further fees.
Maybe the Bodybugg will be forced to reduce their fees and become more competitive? Dunno.
Also, Fitbit doesn't have to touch the skin, so I am not sure how it gets its readings. The website shows this tiny device that looks almost like a small money clip which clips on to your belt loop. I think that it would be easy to lose, though.
Fitbit measures sleep, calories, and physical activity, but not heart rate.

Wow, the Fitbit looks pretty comparable to the Sensewear-- for almost $400 less than I paid :( I have to admit that I'll be a bit bummed if it is really as good as it sounds-- although for those that haven't made a purchase yet, this sounds like a GREAT deal!
Oh wait, I just remembered that I think it only measure on 2 axis, not 3 which is something I was concerned about (for bike riding), but I still think I would have gotten the Fitbit instead.

Not really ...its just a motion detector just like Pedometer and hence it won't be as accurate as BodyBugg, see this from their website "For most wearers, the Fitbit should be roughly 95-97% accurate for step counting. We spent a lot of time ensuring that this accuracy is achieved even when you wear the Fitbit loosely in your pocket. " which means its 95 % accurate as a Pedometer but not as a calorie burnt device. It would be estimating everything based on preset data which calculates the energy used on the basis of your age/height/weight and not the same way as BodyBugg does.
To sumup....FITBIT may be a more accurate pedometer but not what Bodybugg offers.

Oh and I just forgot to mention that i bought the bodybugg V3 in US$ 379 from someone at EBAY. ..I don't live in US and theirs no distributor of these devices in my country, Bodybugg or 24hourfitness doesn't ship this product to anywhere outside US and same goes with Sensewear, hence I had to buy it from someone selling it at EBAY..little expensive but I'm glad now I'll have it finally.

I wear a Body Bugg V.2 at all times, except when in the shower or swimming, and I absolutely LOVE it! IT helps keep me accountable. I find that if I know I have to enter that cookie, or extra teaspoon of honey I put in my tea, I am going to think twice about the extra calories.
I decided to go with the V2 rather than waiting for V3 simply because of pricing. 24 hr fitness online was offering them for $150.00 which is about 1/2 off and I am a sucker for a good deal.
I have not had any problem at all regarding uploading data, working with the software, etc
It is kinda tricky to enter meals that are not listed (such as when I make a casserole).
I would highly encourage everyone to invest in your life and health by getting a BB. It is worth every penny.

I got my bodybugg (deal from 24 hour, 6 months + watch monitor)
I am still playing with it, it says based on the goal i set of 25 lbs by the end of march, my birthday, I need to consume 1800 cals a day and burn 2550.
I have yet to eat that much but I have hit the cals burned daily. I did pick a slow road so I want to give it a few weeks but I want it to be a life change an not a sprint to the end.
Any hints?

Thought that I'd ask here first: when I received my Sensewear it was suggested that I use the "Journal." I haven't seen anything on the site which allows this - what am I missing?
I must say that it is fun - though I was taken aback at the number of calories it is telling me that I burn. I've always been operating on the theory that it was far fewer. So I am actually increasing my food intake (easy to do at this season - in fact it happens naturally!) - just to see what will happen!

It is very interesting to see the results my Sensewear is giving me - I am burning a lot more calories than I ever thought I was, and I have been going slowly down (I set my goals at 3/4 lb week, but I've been doing better than that) by balancing my intake and burn - in spite of eating more than I was before - is anyone else having that experience? I must say -I love it!!

I like that I am not starving and I like that I can see how much I burn. The only day (had it for 10 days) that I did not meet my daily steps, was the day I went skiing. So far with holiday eating, I have not made great choices, but i am within my calories and calorie burned. I set mine for about a LB a week and although I think I have lost a lb in that time I at least feel better I am on the right track and not feeling like I am guessing all the time. I did make an adjustment about a week ago in my goals to ballance a little better.
I am happy I bought this and I hope it will make the difference for me this time to take the long road to doing this forever. I also don't see how it can't make the differnece because if my calories in are lower than my calories out, I will have to drop a few lbs, right?

Ok guys I need your help. I have been debating on buying a bodybugg or sensewear for the past month or so. Now that the V3 bodybugg is out I am trying to make sure I have all of my details right.
Go wear fit: armband w/12 month commitment is 159.96 +6.95 a month
display 99.95 = $342.75
+ calorie consumption (BUT ONLY EVERY THREE DAYS)
+ track sleeping
+ calories burned
- you can only log calories every 3 days
Bodybugg: armband, display and 6 month subscription 348.95 on bodybugg
website (24 hour fitness currently has the same deal for 249.00
armband is free)
+ tracks calorie burned
- does NOT track sleep info
- does not allow you track calories consumed
Sensewear: armband w/display 348.00 and 1 yr subscription 119.00 = 467.00
+ total energry expenditure
+ steps taken
+ activity level and duration
+ sleep duration and efficiency
+ calorie intake and balance
Does this seem like the right details? I am looking for feedback from people who are currently using these products. I am curious about the sleep functions but I am concerned about anything that only allows me to track my calories every three days or takes an average of calories. And ofcourse I am concerned about my wallet. DH says this gets to be part of my Christmas presents. I only need to lose 15 - 20 pounds but I would also like to train for a half marathon this year. Also I must add this May I will be celebrating my 10 year anniversary of gastric bypass surgery.
Thanks in advanced for all the help.

With the Body Bugg, you can log in your foods. Since Body Bugg changed owners and the reason v3 is different, it sounded like they were going to use CalorieKing if I remember correctly. I need to call the gal I was working with through Body Breakthru to find out the exact details on v3 - when I talked to her a month or so ago, she told me what they were expecting with the new version.
I also need to talk to my nurse practioner because if I can get it through my flex plan, then I should be looking at the SensorWear one.

I bought the deal with bodybugg/24 hour fitness about 2 weeks agoou can wear it while you sleep and get a read out of calories burned. I think the big difference is in the food log. I wuld say it OK, I have not added my own food as of yet because, well it is the holidays and I have done nothing but eat crap and there is enough stuff in the data base to be close enough at this time, BUT the price was right and sleep efficiancy is nt a big deal to me.
The website is easy enough to use and for the 100 bucks less I figure it will give me more monotoring time if I wish to spend it AND it came with the read out watch which also has a clip for tucking inside my shirt or wearing on my pants etc. I can say how much activity I plan to do and durration and the intensity. I do about 2 hours a day, I can eat 1600 cals and I have a defcite of 950 which should help me lose about 1.5 lbs a week.
Ultimately I think the shape is the same, the food log issue should be a factor in deciding and if price helps in that, great and I am using the readout monotor allthough I will say mine is off by a few calories (more) than the actual when I connect to my computer...
So my advice is go for the deal, once you have it, you won't know what you are missing...

Hi guys,
I feel like I get conflicting stories. The Bodybugg Version 3....does it allow you to sleep with it on? I know it tracks calories in and out, and it's smaller, and MAC compatible, but the one thing that has me not buying it yet is not knowing if it tracks sleeping calories. Any ideas? There is a part of me that thinks it must, you wear it, it tracks. But I am not sure. I saw on 24hourfitness.com that they have it, the display, and 6 months of the subscription for $249, which seems good to me.
Thanks

Yes you can sleep with it and I would recomend that for the first few days that you do. it will help figure out what you burn at night, what it won't tell you is how well you sleep and frankly I think we know when we slept badly :) but I think the trade off is a more complete food log. i am just catching on and much of the food is listed under brand names...
The 250 with the display was what turned me and vista compatable.
Bobybugg has a message board although it seems very hevily monitored, it looks like a lot of people sleep with it on. If you don't sleep with it, mine estemates based on non active times and tells me I burn about 460 overnight. you can also choose and activity you did while the armband is off, like showering, swimming and it will give you credit for that.
I hope that helps.

I agree with L144S, the biggest difference between GoWearFit and Bodybugg is the calories eaten tracking. After a lot of debating, I picked the GoWearFit because I already track my calories eaten on sparkpeople.com. The big reason why I was looking at these type of gadgets was to understand my calories out.
I agree that the arm band is much more comfortable then I expected. I just told my husband that the arm band is more comfortable then my bra :-)
Also, I only paid $159.XX (armband) + $99.99 (display) and it came with a 12 month subscription.
Two weeks in to it, I am completely satisfied and addicted!
I can't wait (but I can) for my vacation to be over so I can start reviewing my "real life" data.

glad you got one!
Right they v3, go fit and sensewear all look the same, minor differences, the difference is what you get. BB actually suggest you wear it at night to know your sleeping rate...I don't track elsewhere like TML so I like the feature and it sounds as if the prices are more compatable now, this BB/24 hour deal is the armband, display, and 6 months and a 1 hour consult with a BB trainner ( I have not done mine yet so I have no clue but I do know i hve to be at my computer) for 249....
I would love to start a new thread for users of these gadgets...

I decided to go with sensewear since I understood that it shows the most accurate calorie count. I ordered it via email. I was skeptical about writing my credit card information on excel sheet and sending them; however, I did. it's been more than 12 hrs and I haven't received any confirmation. I am starting to worry that the payment method isn't safe!!!

I wouldn't worry at all (although I know I was nervous too when I ordered mine)! They are a totally legit company, just not so great with customer service :o) Also, if you have difficulty getting someone on the phone, don't stress about that either! The best time to call is early Eastern time. They do fill orders and ship them very quickly and they are super-helpful and nice when you do get them on the phone.
As I said, I ordered directly through Sensewear (bodymedia) myself and it was a bit nerve-wracking but all worked out fine in the end. However, since ordering, I found out about www.myminifly.com This is a company that sells the Sensewear for the exact same price, they are just a lot more into customer service. So, if I were to purchase again, I would purchase from them. I think the support you'd receive, etc. would be better.

Hey everyone. Happy New Year!! My fiancée bought me the bodybugg for Christmas. Right now 24 hour fitness has this deal going where if you buy the bodybugg you get the watch for free. I don't really use it because it keeps losing the reception with my bodybugg but it's there. I love it! I have been looking for some app. on my iPhone to help me with keeping track of my calories but they were so confusing. This thing makes it so east. Now I know how much I am eating and how many calories I am burning. If your lookig for something that works, this would be it :-D

Just thought you might be interested... I noticed that my watch and armband are not staying in-sync and it is the worst at home. Then my DH figured it out - between our iPhone, wireless Internet and wireless TVs (my dh loves all techie toys) that one of those is interfering with the armband and watch. The iPhone seems to be the biggest colprit!

TML,
I would agree. mine seem to be the worst at home too, mostly on the time of activity and especially when I am on the eliptical, mine sits above the garage but the invisable fence box is right under me too which was why the HRM that came with the machine never worked either. The good news is I think it is not effecting the armband. I tend to put the display in another room and then sinc it back up in a little while, but I am not suprised because many electronics just don't work in that room.
I will say I am loving having this. I have not lost a single pound yet BUT, it is keeping me on track, I know I am doing the right things and the scale will have to move ar some point I am sure :) It has also taken me about 3 weeks to get my food back under control I did not relize how much I was grazing and how bad much of my food choices were.

What's the average calorie used per minute :
1) While you are doing cardio ?
2) While you are doing weight training ?
2) While you are sitting and doing work like typing on your computer ?
3) While you are sleeping ?
Does your BodyBugg shows lots of movement of steps even while you are not moving and doing things like driving, riding a bike, or traveling in a bus...mine shows a lot of steps during all these processes and I was wondering if its just me or all face the same issue.
I'm finding some interesting patterns and I'd be posting soon on a separate thread, for now I just want to compare my pattern with the other users.

Yes, as long as you keep it on it keeps track. It has a time graph that shows the time and how many calories you were burning. It also calculates your steps, which I never really thought to keep track of.

I am going to get a bodybugg at the end of the month. I'm really excited about it!
I carry a lot of weight in my arms and I was wondering if someone with one could measure the large band? I can't find any information about size on the website other than it comes with a regular and large band. Does the band look like it would fairly easy to expand if necessary?

I've been using mine for about 48 hours now. I'm not sure why people don't like the food logging software on BB, because I actually thing it's going to work fine for me. (Whew!) so, I'm glad I didn't let that deter me from the purchase.
The calorie burn total seems a smidge high to me at the moment, (Got 3500 yesterday) but it might be I'm not used to looking at those numbers, rather just dealing with exercise and calorie targets in the past. ].
Anyway It's encouraging me to be more active even if it's just to do more household chores and that was my main reason for the purchase.
Glad I waited for v3 and the more slim version I barely remember I have the thing on. The watch monitor is fun to play with too. :)

what I don't like about the data base is that it is not in alphabetical order, it is done by "most common". Sometimes it takes me a few to find what I am looking for. I will get use to it. In the meantime, I sometimes open calroie king to look up a food and enter it in as a custom food.
The other thin i would like is to have a daily calorie input, I know I enter my own, but a the end of a week it will tell me how acurate I am, i would like that at the end of the day too.

Question for you Sensewear users --
Has anyone ever had the problem of the unit not responding? I didn't wear it in December, and I went to start using it again... and... dead. I charged it, the battery light is green, but it won't respond to anything. Not the button being pushed, not to being on my arm, not to being plugged in via the USB. Trying to upload or even re-register just gives me an error that it can't find the unit.
I wrote & emailed customer service, but no response so far. I'm going to try and call again tomorrow.
Anyone else have this problem? And if so, how did you resolve it?
Thanks!!

you can wear your BB at night and get an accuate brun. you st up your waking hours, mine are 6 to 10. if I don't put it on before 6 and it has more than15 min. off arm, it will ask what you did in that time frame.
So if I go to bed at 10:30 and take it off and then shower in the am before I put it on at 6:30, it will ask me what I did and add those cals into my totals for the day.
The food log is complete, it just is not alph, it goes by some determined "most common" but it is not mine, I have a hard time finding things like plain grilled salmon, it wants to give me some brand name meal so I find I go to Calorie king a lot,
So I think senser wear has a food log, but maybe not as complete and I don't know if you can add custom food.
The v3 and the SW are the exact same unit BTW....

I have a Sensewear Unit. Initially I had problems with the unit communicating because of the JAVA software version. The lastest version (1.10) didn't work so I had to go back to a previous version - 1.6.0. Not saying that's the problem. Did you try to do a hard re-boot by holding the button down for 30 seconds? The last thing would to troubleshoot the USB connection, to make sure it's working by plugging in something else like your Ipod or camera. I bought mine through myminifly and Matt has helped me a lot. Maybe he can help you? I heard Bodymedia customer service lacks good response time but you could always try them first thing in the morning when they open, don't know when that is...

I am not sure what the sleep monotoring is but you can wear the BB at night and it will tell you how many calories you burn at night. mine is about 460
If I don't wear it, it assumes 460 when I put it on in the morning and any amount of time after my 6am, (I am set 6am to 10pm) it will ask what I did durring that time.

I too was torn between the BodyBugg and GoWear Fit, and I ended up going with the BodyBugg because I could log my daily calories. I must say that I was disappointed when I got the devise, as the food log leaves much to be desired.
I have added some attachments so you can see what the food log is like for the BodyBugg. At first look, it looked good, but then I tried to use it...a whole different story. It suggests a daily menu plan for you, which is nice, but if you want to change it, it is a big pain. In attachment 3, it shows you how you can change your food choices for your menu, but for some reason, some of the words are cut off and it cannot be fixed by maximizing the screen. Also, once you click on a food, it assumes that this is your final choice and all of the other options disappear, which makes it difficult to search for items if you want to make sure the calorie count is right before selecting it.
In attachment 1, I put a red circle around the "Calories Consumed" button. The first attachment is only your plan, you have to separately input your food as shown in attachment 2. If you actually ate what is on your plan, you can put "I ate my meal plan", but if you did not, then you have to manually log everything in, although at least in this window the words are not cut off. Once you enter your calories in this section, it does not look like you can change them, so you can only enter them after the fact.
In short, the BB food log has the fundamentals, but it could really be a lot more consumer friendly and was not all that I hoped for.
I also wanted to clear up the confusion regarding sleep monitoring. The BodyBugg will tell you how many calories you burned while sleeping, but that is it. The GoWear Fit tells you calories burned, but also your sleep duration and how efficient your sleep is.
BodyMedia has a chart that shows the differences between the SenseWear, GoWear Fit and BodyBugg to help people decide which one is best for them, here is the link: http://www.bodymedia.com/prodtbl.html
I know some people are concerned about the armband/strap fitting them, so please note that the GoWear Fit only comes with a regular sized strap. The BodyBugg comes with 2 different sized armbands, with the large strap measuring 21" and fits arm circumferences of 12"-24".
Regarding pricing, there are two good specials that are going on right now. On Amazon, you can get the GoWear Fit for $199 (until Jan. 31) with free super saver shipping. It comes with a 3 month subscription. With 24 Hour Fitness, you can get the BodyBugg for $249 with a 6 month subscription, and this price is a "limited time" offer. Both offers include the display.
Hope this helps all of you that are thinking of taking the plunge!

I don't find the food logs that bad at all... but I didn't try and change the meal plans I just enter the individual items I eat. Maybe its cause I eat a lot of the same things but they pop up automatically. I suppose my biggest complaint is if you type in something like "chicken breast" it really should come up first in the list.
You don't have as many pre-entered choices like some of the free online tools but I've found those are just as annoying because there are too many things to search through and half the time since they are user entered there are tons of errors.
Once you enter the foods you eat often it seems quite fast and easy to log your food.
I agree with the search box clearing being annoying once you select your food. I'd like to see the calorie counts before I select the item so I don't have to search for it again if it ends up being not what I wanted.
Over all I'm glad I didn't let the complaints about the food logs prevent me from trying this out. I think while there are improvements to be made, its fairly functional.
My biggest complaint right now is the wireless devices in my house keep my watch from being knocked out of synch way too often.

I have another question for you guys....do you think sometimes the cal/min number during rest is too high? I have a target deficit of 750 cal/day and try to be at least around 900 cal/day or so to make sure I get the 1.5 lbs/week. Any input is appreciated!

LOVELAND,
even if the numbers are high, as long as it is "your bugg" all the numbers will be high and all the numbers are yours and all your activity will be high cal/min. the only way it will show a difference is when you chose a period of time to look at (tracking results) if your calorie input is much higher than what you actually entered.
So if you are entering 1200 cals a day eaten but the BB is reading 2000, you will have 100 cal deficite instead of the 900 based on entered cals/senced cals. Make sence?
So my first week i entered in about 1600 a day but the BB senced closer to 1800 a day, 2nd week I was much more accurate on my entering and my nubers were much closer, enterd 1600, senced 1550-1650

I tried to drop my calories from 1800 to 1500 and I gained 1.5 lbs! I still had the average deficit of 850 calories/day for that week and that just didn't make any sense!!! (There was no TOM or water retention issue) I have a problem with my Thyroid and have been on medicine for 22 years. I'm sure that has an influence.....now I'm back to the 1800 calories consumed for the last 2 weeks and have lost the 1.5 lbs/week. I guess time will tell....

I just received by Bodybugg yesterday and have got everything activated and going. I can already tell I'm going to love it. I have a question about the food log. The answer may be in this thread somewhere, but the thread is so long, I'm intimidated to go look for it and I really need to get up from this computer and move more instead. ;)
Anyway, my question is: Is there a way to just enter a total calories consumed into the my results page or the calories consumed page without having to log each food? This is in case I decide I prefer to use another food log database. Could I use another food log database then just transfer the totals to my bodybugg tracker?

I ment to answer you too, the long and the short of it is no, you can't just enter a days cals in one lump sum. I don't love the food log, but I am getting better at it and my feeling is you have invested in the BB, use it for what it also offers which is the charting and the graphs, if you don't do it you are missing out on the whole package.

Yesterday my display was showing around 200 more calories burned than the website. I saw on the bodybugg forum that it is because the display is showing the raw data from the bugg. When you upload it the website adjusts it based on your body parameters. The website is the one that is the most accurate.

Thanks Beloved for the feedback. I remember comming across the same information on the form, but the GoWear Fit Website says:
If you have a GoWear display you will have seen up to the minute calorie values displayed. The armband contains a miniaturized set of algorithms that can calculate calories and send them directly to the display every minute.
Given this, it looks like the display doesn't give us the "raw" data. I understand it being a little off, but yesterday, the display was off by 850 calories for the day. I don't see how the display can be useful if it is going to be off by so much.

The thing is that they are made by 2 different companies. I find if I wear mine at night, my numbers are the same, if I take it off and sinc in the am, it is usually off, but never more than 20 or 30 cals...
As for logging cals in another program, you can enter it in the BB system as a "daily food" under add your own food, and you could take the totals from the other site, but you can't just put down cals in, you have to have the protein/carbs/fat count....

So someone must have figured it out, but I haven't tried it yet as I'm finding the food logs fairly good. I think the key is tricking the system into thinking your just entering a food item.
This is what I was thinking would work. I haven't tried it yet because I'm trying to see if I get used to using the BB food logs better once I get a few more of my usual food entered.

Right now I am logging foods in my DietMinder and then I logg a total for each meal. I may go to just logging one total as breakfast, but I like seeing how many calories I am eating during different times of days. I make a custom food with the date like, "1/22 Breakfast."

I had my first full day with the Gowear Fit yesterday, and I loved it! I wasn't sure how it was going to do, cause yesterday I went up to Mt. Hood for my 3rd day of snowboarding lessons, and I thought all the sliding around and falling would throw it off. The charts and data totally match, though, and you can really see exactly what I was doing all day! What's really great is how obvious it is that snowboarding is a very intermittent sport... you work really hard for 10 minutes, then sit on the lift for 5, then work hard for 12, then sit, then work... when I did a 2 mile walk two days ago, the chart had big solid bars of activity, not these little spikes. I also love that you can see the short run I did at 8:20pm trying to get to an appointment at the Apple store Genius Bar after we took a wrong turn. :)
Very, very cool!! This is going to be such a huge help for me. And what's funny is that my very fit and athletic husband and friends here are super jealous of it when I tell them what it does! They want to get one for themselves, just so they can understand more about their activity and sleep. Beats feeling embarrassed about it! :)

So, just in case anyone's curious about what a more normal day looks like, at least for me, here's my chart from yesterday. We have a friend staying with us, so we went out to eat both lunch and dinner yesterday, and I ate much more than I would have at home (I keep track on The Daily Plate, and yesterday I think I ate 2,225 cals instead of my usual 1,540! :o ) Plus I was sitting around the house not doing much of anything all day.
What was different about yesterday was that I plugged in the Gowear Fit right before dinner, realized I wasn't going to hit my target, and decided to walk to dinner and meet everyone else there. It was over 3 miles! But it was a very nice walk, through some of Portland's coolest neighborhoods, and I was very glad I did it. If I hadn't had this thing on my arm, there's no way it would have even occurred to me. :)

Is the BodyBugg special only through Jan. 31 also?

Hi Everyone! I too am new here.
After reading this thread I broke down and purchased my body bugg on 1/21 through 24 hour fitness and somehow down the line they messed up my shipping and forgot to process my order. However, all is good now with delivery set for 2/4. I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival and checking the shipping info like a madwoman!! I guess in my wildest dreams UPS will deliver early! (tee hee)
I sure hope it's worth the wait. It has been torture! How is everyone doing with their bugg? I have been overweight my entire life and I'm hoping this will finally set the record straight in regards to what I burn etc.
Thanks!

When I first got it about 1.5 weeks ago, I was plugging in every 3-4 hours! (Only to find out I burn approx 1.5 cal/min when working!) Now I basically have a feel for what's happening. It has made me so aware. So, I usually only upload once in the evenings now. Before dinner - so I get a final idea of what kind of deficit I need...

Have had had BB (v2) since Nov and love it.
I upload 1-2x/day and am trying to figure out a way to justify the upgrade to the v3 (black) one.
I had found this thread (and read most of it) back when deciding weather to get BB in Nov and am glad I did (even though the other, similar devices sound about the same). Thanks for the info/discussion!
It is really interesting/helpful to see what is really going on and I may not renew my WW online sub. when it expires as I think I get enough info to do it with just BB *plus* I feel like I don't eat extra on Monday nights (my WI day is Tuesday) just cause I have Weekly Points left (for some reason calories just seem like numbers).

Hey everyone!!
I need help. I had my free session with my bobybugg consultant and she said it is best to enter EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. But I find that hard for me to do. I know I need to for it to actually help me.
Any advice as to how to make this easier aside from starve myself (LOL kidding.. I didn't get this chunky by starving myself LOL)
L144S
02-04-2009, 06:58 AM
Well, She is right, you have to enter everything if you want it to work. HOWEVER you don't have to starve. Adjust your program to give you a reasonable amount to eat and a doable amount of calories burned. And you have nothing to lose by entering in everything, oh, yeah you do :)
My program is to lose about a LB a week, I eat 1600 cals and burn 2500,
Somdays are lower in cals on both ends particularly if am busy, and higher on other days when I can be more active. I am not starving, I have room for "treats".
I just feel like with a tool like a BB, that one can do it slowly, change habbits forever and you don't have to feel like you are on a diet so nothing is off limits, just learning to make good choices for a healthier you.

If you can plan out what you are going to eat for the day in advance, it may be easier for you to record everything. I tend to eat the same things day after day, so I know how many calories are in these things and it makes it easier for me to plan so I don't go over my calorie allotment for the day. Good luck!

I'm curious - I have a Sensewear, and find that I often have trouble getting onto the website unless my computer has just been turned on. Somehow it can't seem to find the softwear otherwise. Is this a problem with my computer only, or are others out there having some trouble? What about the BodyBugg - is there any trouble accessing the website with it?

LOL - Nicoyaangel - just the fact that I now want to track each bite has saved me from many unnecessary bites! But, obviously, if you want your numbers to be as accurate as possible you have to complete the formula...calories in vs. calories out. It bugs me also that when you are entering a custom food into BB site you only have grams or fl oz. Sometimes I want an "each". But, when I do need to track it, you can often find very small amounts on TDP. And then just copy it into BB site. For example I've found out what 1 almond is worth... not that I can ever eat just 1. Usually more like 10!
I got this idea from another 3fc member and made up an food called JAB (just-a-bite) that is worth 25 calories...then whenever there was a mindless bite if I don't know the exact amt, I go ahead and enter JAB just so I know it's been accounted for--even if it's not "accurate".

02-05-2009, 01:33 AM
LOL yea I'm gonna have to do that. That's a good idea. I also need to write everything down. With work being so crazy I actually forget what I ate that day. I will need to start doing that tomorrow. Write down exactly what I eat.
Also I for got to ask her you know how it says you have to burn X amount of calories and also be x amount of calories to be in the deficit what if I am making the deficit but not burning ALL the calories. Is that right or should I hit that goal of calories they want me to burn all the time??

If you can manage to download only once a day, do it right before you take your daily shower, since you can't wear it in the shower anyway and it gives it time to re-charge the battery. I tend to download 2-3 times per day, because I want to see the graphs right when I get up (I have the GoWear Fit and like to see the sleep efficiency) and after I work out at the gym. It only takes a minute for it to download, so just have the website and cable ready, download it and quickly put it back on your arm! A minute or two off-body won't have a noticeable impact on your daily calorie burn.

A week of calorie deficits with the Gowear Fit:
Thu: -895
Fri: -393
Sat: -728
Sun: -1383
Mon: -549
Tues: -660
Wed: -1076 (being very careful about sodium intake for Thu weigh in)
Total: -5684
2.2 pounds lost
Some of that was probably water, which explains why I didn't lose 1.5 pounds, but all in all it's what I expected after having a great week. I'm not even stressing about weight loss and exercise like I was in the 2 weeks before I got the Gowear Fit, there's no second-guessing or guilt-tripping involved. I just keep an eye on my numbers, try to be honest about what I'm eating (restaurants are so hard), and either work out or stop eating when it looks like I'm heading too far into my deficit. It's as easy as remembering to brush my teeth. :)

I tend to download once a day, I am out of the house A LOT. So i try and do it before dinner so I can figure out how on track I am for the day.
I ususallly cahrge on Sunday night while I sleep, I plug it in using the USB wire and the base plug for my ipod :)
NIC,
If you are not burning all of your calories, and hit your deficit, it means you are not eating all of your calories. I admit somedays, Thursday and Friday are tough days for me to exercise so I eat a little light on my calories, BUT do not go below 1200 to 1300 calories on those days even if it means your deficit will not be at target. It just plain is not good for you and don't do it too many days in a row either.
You know the best part about this, and I think most if not all will agree, is that if you set your program, you don't have to starve, all you have to do is follow it AND if you are starving, change the program to lose a little slower. the goal is life change and weighloss is the perk.

I find myself really looking forward to running now that I'm wearing my armband. :) Back in January I signed up for a beginner's 5K class at one of the local running stores, and it's haaaard... they're building us up to run 6 miles continuously in the class, so that the 3.1 mile race will seem easy. :) I'm one of the slowest people in the slowest group, so yeah, it's really hard for me. But now I REALLY look forward to it every week, because it's so much fun to watch my burn rate go through the roof on running class days!! I even signed up for a real 5K race tomorrow, just so I can have another awesome 3,000 calories burned day (instead of the 2,000 I burn on lazy sitting-on-my-butt days). Lemme tell you, this is a whole new way of looking at running for me. :) This thing is going to turn me into an athlete, I swear. :carrot:

I am so frustrated - I just got my bodybugg and things were good the first day of use (Sunday was my first full day) - I downloaded everything and started wearing it Saturday afternoon. My computer crashed four times last night when I plugged it into the USB port to download. Since it was a keyboard failure, I call Dell and we had to reboot the battery. Then we updated my BIOS and driver. But it happened again later (keyboard failure) and another freeze. I tried this morning on another usb port and the keyboard failure happened again. I emailed tech support but will call them when I get home - I am suppose to have my phone call tonight with a coach. UGH. And then to top it off, it is never in sync at night (my dog has me getting up a few times) and this morning it has been out of sync most of the morning also.
If this is going to be as if not more frustrating than my heart rate monitor, it's not worth it to me. Here I took the stairs and walked on my break and it doesn't look like it registered the steps at all.
Very, very frustrating. Hopefully tech support can help otherwise I'm not messing with it.

Possibly the UK's very first BodyBugg...it is soooo cute! Although I haven't set it up and tried it on yet, I LOVE the size - it's perfect.
To collect it (because I had to pay some import duty), I had to trek over to the parcel force depot in some dodgy industrial estate before coming in to the office - in so doing, I tripped and fell over ice TWICE lol! But it was all worth it...
Will post once I have set it up and starting using it.

Hi everyone!!
Today was my first weigh in since I got my bugg.....5 pounds people. I lost five pounds!!!! I have never been able to do this before. All I did was make sure I took my steps, ate my calories, and made all my targets.
5 lbs!!! Gone!!! Soon my fat dance is going to turn into a skinny dance. I can't believe how much better I feel!
Rachelle, I'm sorry to hear your having so much trouble with your computer. Is it an older computer? I cannot use my bugg with my dell laptop because it is about 4 years old and somehow the bugg software just makes it crash or freeze all the time. Personally I think the bugg is better than any heart rate monitor so I hope it works out for you!!
Ok everyone see you later, I'm going to go meet my targets for today!!

I have bought this for my wife who is in a Biggest Loser Challenge at her work place. I hope this will help keep her motivated, I also ordered the GoWear display for her armband from Amazon at a better price than the GoWear Fit site has. I did check to make sure the display would have no problems working together with my armband just in case one was a different version.
I am also thinking about one for myself after my tax refund hits but will have to wait and see how this works out first. I see it as a good investment on a life style change that is badly needed for both of us.

I just received my sensewear today and finally got it registered. When I went on to do goals I stated I wanted to lose 2 lbs a week. I weigh 178 and my goal is 130. It says my target calories a day should be 1000. I personally think that is a crazy amount of calories. I usually try to consume around 1500. Is 2 lbs a week too much to lose? If I wanted to lose 1 lb a week it had me at 1400 cals.
Anyone else have this problem?

One thing - the unit only updates the display every three minutes - so if you look at the wrong time, then it seems like it is not registering your effort.
I like to use the trip setting to check specific efforts - but you still have to wait for the results!

Hi Wingz! I've been wearing the Gowear Fit every day for the last 3 weeks, and I've lost about 6 pounds in those 3 weeks, using The Daily Plate to track my food and make sure I'm hitting a 1,000 calorie deficit every day. I also go to Weight Watchers meetings to give me a goal to shoot for every week. The last 3 weeks have been a lot easier for me than the 3 weeks before that without the armband, where I was trying to guess how much activity I was getting on The Daily Plate... I feel like a big responsibility has been lifted off my shoulders. I don't worry as much about food or exercise, I just make sure that I'm honest about entering every bite into the Daily Plate, and then make sure I move enough and/or eat the right amount to get a 1,000 calorie deficit every day. I don't sit around beating myself up if I don't make it to the gym, I just have a small enough dinner to make up for it. Likewise if I decide to have a buttered bagel for breakfast, then I make sure I move around at lunch to compensate for it. It's easy when I get instant feedback about it.

I think I would call Matt and let him know the issues you are having. That way if something is bad wrong you can get it exchanged.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my bodybugg! :carrot: I have been using it since Thursday and I have no issues with it at all. It is extremely comfortable to wear (I've got the new version) and I almost don't remember it's on. I'm able to wear it to bed with no difficulty or discomfort. I LOVE the food logging aspect of it, and because I had sort of started to get myself in the habit of weighing or measuring foods, I have no real difficulties in being fairly accurate about my entries. Because, of course, the BB is marketed for use in the US, most of the foods in the BB database are not available in the UK. That's cool though, because of course you can customise your food list - which is a fantastic facility - I find myself saving food packets with the nutrition information on it so that I can accurately enter them into my food log! :) I also got the display watch, which I LOVE! I tend to only use it when I am physically active (i.e. when working out at the gym or during fitness camp etc), but not when I am just at work or having a fairly sedentary day. However, like many 3FCers have said, I seem to have in the past overestimated my calorie burn based on my BB's readings - although I think it seems a bit of a lower reading than when I use my heart rate monitor. I might wear both of them during exercise to test the BB's accuracy. That being said, I believe I have read somewhere that overall, the BB's measurement of individual calorie expenditure over the course of 24hrs is more accurate than a HRM. All in all, I truly believe this amazing little device will revolutionise my eating habits and nutrition awareness. I have been managing to achieve my 1000 calorie deficit, with a surplus yesterday of 300+ calories in addition to my 1000 calorie deficit (to be fair, I did have an intense fitness camp session) even though I consumed 2100 calories - some 400 more than recommended by BB for me (1700). I have been blogging about my experiences thus far on the 3FC blog site, and I find that has helped me tremendously. Instead of reaching for the nearest snack after a meal like dinner (because I think I'm still hungry) I find that blogging about my day and experiences helps me realise that I am not as hungry as I really I thought (or not at all) - that's probably just the brain/stomach delay! :) All in all, it's been an excellent 3 days with my BB, and I very much hope my hard work will be reflected on my scales when I weigh in this Monday (16 Feb). Wish me luck!

Awesome, UK!! Glad to hear you're liking it!! Be sure to keep drinking lots of water to offset water retention from the increased exercise you're doing, and I'm sure you'll see results on the scale in no time! :)

jaja,
I am just curious: why do you use DP to log your food (instead of the BB site)?
TIA for your reply,
Gretchen

Oh and since I cannot gage how much I have lost with BB alone as I am just giving up my WW online now I can say that BB feels more lifestyle to me than WW cause I don't eat just cause points are going to expire.
And with BB I gage progress by the couple of weeks or month even, not as much focus on weekly (since we have hormonal changes etc).
Hope this helps.
New fear since I got the tiny v3?
Accidentally wearing it into the shower!
(really it is that small/light/unobtrusive compared to the v2).

Thanks, JaJa! Your tip about drinking water is REALLY appreciated - I need that reminder! I actually haven't been drinking anywhere near enough (I guess coz I've been concentrating so much on the other aspects of losing this weight), and I AM prone to fluid retention, so that's a great tip - hope this won't mean I won't see any progress tomorrow morning when I weigh in...:o
Take care,

UK, if you have the BB you can set up remeinders to have the BB beep ( i personally find it anoying BUT that said you can set it to beep every hour if you like as a reminder to drink :)

L144S,
That's cool! What a great tip! How do I set my BB reminders?? I have been contacted regarding my coaching session though, so perhaps I can ask then also. But if you know how, I would be grateful. I am dreadful at drinking water - partially because I can't stand the intense needing to pee feeling every 5 minutes (or so it seems)! :D
Cheers,

Hey Gretchen! I'm in PDX too! :D I use the Daily Plate to track my food because I've got a Gowear Fit, the non-food-tracking cousin of the BB, and also because I really like the way TDP works, it's very fast for me to just hop on there and find whatever it was I ate.
And UK, I know, I'm the same way!! I actually had a -.2 loss my first week with the armband, and I'm convinced it was due to water retention from all the new exercise I was doing. The next two weeks I lost 6 pounds, though, because I've been drinking about 2 liters of water a day, plus keeping an eye on my sodium intake in the few days before my weigh-in. Seems to be doing the trick! :) Honestly, since getting the armband, I hardly think about food and exercise anymore.... now all I worry about is water retention! :D
