Question Food with 0 points

Question: If you eat food that figures 0 for points and lets say the amount is 1/4 cup and you want 1/2 or even 1 cup. Is it still 0 points if you double or triple the amount per serving?

Usually what I do, is eat only a few 0 points food a day, then I write them down as 1. And usually when u double a 0 point serving, it would make 1 point.

with the exception of zero points veggies, you can't eat an unlimited amount of zero points foods without counting the points. if you eat more than the zero point serving, you need to figure out the true points and count them. for example (according to the WW website) 1 cup of strawberries is 0 points, 1 1/4 cups is 0.5 points, and 1 3/4 cups is 1 point, etc.

also, the WW stance on 0 points foods is that you shouldn't have more than 5 a day. if you have more than 5, you have to start counting them. but that 5 does NOT include 0 point veggies.

Thanks for asking this question, I was actually wondering the same thing! Especially with my fruits and veggies since I have been eating more of those to fill the hungry feeling I have sometimes!

WW doesn't want to discourage you in any manner from eating veggies... and therefore doesn't tell you to start counting points if you eat more than a serving of green beans. So don't worry about eating more than a serving of 0-points vegetables.

For everything else - light cool whip, fiber one cereal, jello, etc - you should look at the nutritional information if you are going to eat more than one serving. If you eat two servings of cool whip, for example, double the nutritional info, and figure out points on those numbers. Do that for each subsequent serving. Sometimes it'll jump - zero for one serving, one point for two servings, three points for three - which is why it's good to get in the habit of always checking the nutritional info.

It's a pretty big grey area. We discussed this at meetings a few weeks ago and it seems the official WW decree is that you look at your weight loss. If you are losing just fine, don't change a thing! However, if your losses are slowing or stalling, take a look at the 0 foods you eat and see if you aren't fudging the numbers a bit.

This had been a popular topic at our meetings. And one of the leaders finally said that "none of us got fat eating vegetables" (she was including herself in the comment). Her point was not to stress the zero points veggie & such until such time that we hit a plateau. And ya know what....she was sooooo right. I know the extra weight I am carrying around is sure not from broccoli
