South Beach Diet - Win The Battle Wednesday!
07-09-2008, 05:58 AM
Up and at it, chickies! :cofdate: Dull and about to rain so coffee is indoors this morning - the AC ran all night and it's almost too cool in here.
I am off to Ottawa at 8 to introduce Disney to my dear friend Shirleyanne and her three rescue dogs. It should be interesting as all three are large and will be on their own territory. Hershey is staying home for the day with friend Claire coming in for her potty breaks. She'll just sleep and enjoy the silence. (I told her not to bother answering the phone. )
Lunch is going to happen in town but I know it'll be healthy and dinner is sitting in my fridge ready for my return so this will be another Winning Wednesday.
What's going on around your Beach towel?
07-09-2008, 06:07 AM
Hope you and Disney enjoy your trip...tell her to be sure and smile so she can impress everyone with her shiney teeth!!
I ended up with a housefull of my youngest sons friends last night and was happy I'd made a huge pot of shrimp/eggplant jambalaya so I could feed them all.
I also made some "fudge/candy" yesterday and want to share the recipe for those that didn't see it on another thread...it was really good, but obviously one or two pieces is enough (it's pretty rich anyway)...and for phase 2 and 3:
2 cups of prunes, about 3/4 cup of oats, 1/2 cup of cocoa powder, 1 cup of nuts...whir it all up in a food processor then add agave necter and a touch of vanilla extract or vanilla beans to taste for sweetness. I rolled it into balls using one teaspoon per "candy" and put it in a pan in the fridge for a bit....I loved em. It's kind of like a cross between fudge and stuffed dates. Whole family liked them.
I'm getting my work done now, so I can exercise and then meet a friend to drive to Baton Rouge. Jillian really kicked my butt yesterday with that new DVD and I am kind of sore this morning, but the good kind.
07-09-2008, 06:15 AM
You're sounding pretty chipper this morning, Ruth. I hope you and Disney have a great day in the big city. Does Hershey get jealous when you take Disney and leave her behind, or does she just enjoy the break?
I have a consultation with a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy this morning, ugh. :( But my gynecologist jumped all over me for canceling my last appointment 2 years ago, so I must get this one done. After that, though, the rest of the day is mine. :) It's supposed to rain, so it may be a good day to go through my kitchen cabinets and get everything reorganized and throw some things out. I'll have to look through my cookbooks, too, to find something fabulous to make for supper. Jake was complaining yesterday that we have the "same old things" day after day. :dizzy: He's lucky that I cook dinner for him every night!
07-09-2008, 06:19 AM
Good morning, Cat! I have a very similar recipe that I use to make truffles, and they're delicious! Brownies are sounding pretty good for today, I just may stop at the store for some prunes this morning. ;)
07-09-2008, 06:36 AM
Morning Cottage!!! Good luck with the "procedure"!!!
07-09-2008, 06:38 AM
I'm back! We went for a drive Monday and came back to a totally messed up internet connection. We finally got back on last night. Grrrr
Ruth - Enjoy your doggie play date :)
Cat - The candy sounds a lot like the two bars I buy for snacks. I'll have to give it a try as they are super expensive.
Cottage - I'm a cookbook reader when I get stuck. I love the internet too - just google whatever you have in the fridge :)
Me - It's hot here. An advantage of losing weight is a much better ability to tolerate heat, so not as bad as it would have been last year. We won't talk about the cold weather.
I've been a little loose with my eating lately. I need to readjust my brain to maintenance and am not doing it as well as I'd hoped. Apparently my blood sugar is also playing havoc and causing me to eat more. Hmm, I wonder if a shorter P1 will help with that even though I don't need to lose more? I'm seeing the doc Friday for the dizzy thing so may experiment between now and then.
We are in zucchini heaven right now. The organic farm down the road is the featured producer at the Co-op and their squash is $.99/lb minus our 10% discount. Turns out we can eat it more than one meal a day. I'm sure that will get old eventually but it's really good right now!
We planned out our summer camping trips while on the road Monday so now I'm doing the research. I love camping :)
Have a good day Chicks! It's good to be back.
07-09-2008, 06:56 AM
CyndiM, I have a hard time getting excited about zucchini - except deep fried with dip. Have you any recipes to share? I grill them and make a zucchini cake but that's my limit. Is Delta on your camping trip list?
Cottage, the appointment is for a consultation, right? I get a colonoscopy every few years and it certainly eases my mind. My Mother's whole family all died of colon cancer so I have this niggling worry all the time. By the way, Hershey doesn't mind too much when I go out with Disney but the reverse is certainly not true. D. gets very upset when I break up our "pack" of three if a car ride is involved.
Cat, you are such a party animal! Yum to jambalaya! Have fun at Baton Rouge. One of these years I'll get down to NO - been wanting to go since 1960 when I got married the first time. We ended up in Washington with the cherry blossoms but I wanted Spanish moss.
It's raining right now, dammit! I planned to pick berries to take to town but it's not to be. I'll take her salad greens and new potatoes plus a bottle of chocolate raspberry port. :yikes: It was a gift after my operation and I don't dare sample it.
Oh well....that gives me time for another coffee before I get organized to leave. I'd go now but refuse to get involved in Ottawa rush-hour traffic ever again!
07-09-2008, 07:04 AM
Cyndi, speaking of zucchini, I ordered one of those things yesterday that makes "spaghetti" out of zucchini. Spirooli or something like that. Can't wait for it to come in.
Ruth, come visit as soon as you can...the moss is waiting for you (October is the best month here weather wise!)
07-09-2008, 08:42 AM
femmecreole, that sounds great! and I have all the ingredients except agave nectar. Tell me, because I'm ignorant, what is agave nectar and where do I find it?
Ruth, have fun with the doggies.
Cottage, it's not that bad. Or so people tell me. I don't go for mine till next year.
Cyndi, I haven't had zucchini yet this year - $1.69 a pound, when I know later in the year people will be giving it away!
I made it through my dd's birthday celebration.
Maybe now I'll actually set a date for starting P1.
07-09-2008, 08:55 AM
Mmmm...zucchini. I love those suckers, DH hates them. I will eat them any which way but my favorite is just sauteed in olive oil with lots of garlic.
Well I had my glucose test yesterday so I guess I will know soon whether I will be forced to eat SB for the rest of the pregnancy! Not that it would be a bad thing, of course. And I am definitely back on it after the babe is born.
Zeff--I just read your post from yesterday. I had lost 5 lbs. in the last month despite feeling ravenous all the time. Might have to do with being sick and a little dehydrated lately though. Dec 31, huh. Yeah tax deduction! Will they let you have champagne in the hospital? Best of luck finding out the sex. They made me wait until past 20 weeks.
07-09-2008, 09:00 AM
Happy Hump Day! so close to the weekend - I can't wait.
Ruth you and Hershey enjoy your day
Cat enjoy that workout
Cottage my thoughts and prayers are with you for all you have to go through
Cyndi dh and I love to go camping it's great for fishing and nature trails even though it's real hot and hummid here in Florida we still have to go a couple times during the summer
Rebel good luck with phase 1
So i did the preagnancy test like my doc office wanted me to do and it was negative just like i knew it would be - come on already whats the test results gonna call them today to see whats up.
07-09-2008, 09:08 AM
i hate my scale but i'll live. up 3 pounds from the first and i'm NOT really sure why at this point.
already did 30 minutes on the Arc Trainer at the gym and then abs and arms this morning.
DH is home... girl child is home
same old same old
07-09-2008, 09:30 AM
Hi chicks, Happy Hump Day!
Summer and no DH are playing havoc with my schedule. We went to the pool last night before dinner, but it was so nice we ended up staying until after 7 so no dinner until about 8. Then DD was supposed to spend the night at a friend's but called at 10 and wanted to be picked up. She said they were watching something that reminded her of daddy and that made her think of home. DS has been staying up later and later, he has always been my no-sleeper. I woke up at 2:30 and he was in my room watching TV. He said he'd woken up and couldn't sleep. He had on the headphones but woke me anyway, Um... not something you really want to do, as he discovered! It was hot to sleep anyway, so I was already tossing and turning. I am an 8-hour-a-night-girl, so all this makes me very cranky! AND lack of sleep is not conducive to weight loss!
Today is cloudy and will probably storm, so probably no pool. I am going to work them hard today and maybe get them settled at a reasonable hour tonight.
Otherwise this has been a quiet week, which I appreciate.
Hi Nessa, condolences on your scale woes. Scales are so silly. Don't you hate it when everyone but you is home all day. At my house that means things get trashed.
Gonna, now that they know you aren't preggers, hope they can figure out what's going on. Assuming you didn't want to be, right?
Jessie, that's my favorite way too, with some thyme added and parmesan sprinkled over top - the South of France way.
Ruth, I found some cute eight-ball zukes at the farmer's market and stuffed them like green peppers. They were really good. I like them Jessie's way too, and really any old way. In ratatouille, grilled, steamed with vinaigrette over top, etc. DH's favorite so we eat alot of them. I've got a new recipe for guacamole made with zukes, called "zukamole", but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'll let you chicks know how it turns out. Have a good drive and visit today! We spent a week in Ottawa a couple of years ago. Fun place, good museums.
Cyndi, when I get tired of eating it, which takes a while, I grate it and freeze it in ziplocs. Glad you are back online! I've had problems with that this week too.
Rebel, glad the party went well. Good luck getting started on Ph1.
Cat, you and your kitchen toys! That recipe sounds fab, but scares me like the truffles I made at Christmas. Don't know if I can be trusted. Can I come in October with Ruth?
cottage, I'd hand him the spatula and tell him to go to it! Good for you getting your test done today. You deserve some kind of treat afterwards! Did you find anything good at the mall?
Have a good one chicks!
07-09-2008, 09:30 AM
Good Morning ladies!!! Happy Hump Day!
Ruth - You're so good about getting out w/ your friends, I'm sorry that it started to rain. Chocolate Raspberry Port......oh.....that sounds decadent!
Cat - The truffles sound really yummy. I might have to get it a try. Have fun in Baton Rouge. Quick question....last night dh and I were watching a show called "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" and they featured a place in NO called "The Joint". It's a bbq place that looked fantastic. Have you heard of it?
Cottage - Good luck with the colonoscopy consult today and make sure you get that appointment with your gyno. That's SO IMPORTANT!!!! Hopefully the rest of the day will be quite peaceful.
Cyndi - Welcome back. Sorry to hear that your internet was on the fritz. Enjoy your zucchini, fresh from the vine is so yummy!!! Here's to hoping that a little p1 gets you back in the right frame of mind.
rebel - the sooner you set a date, the quicker the weight begins to fall off. Let's get going!
Jessie - I hope the test comes back positive.
Gonnabe - I hope the Drs. figure out what's going on for you...and soon!
Nessa - I hear you on the scale, I currently have such a love/hate relationship with it......drives me crazy!
Schmoodle - Cranky is not fun. I hope the day is smooth and the kids stay out from under your feet. Here's to a day that flies by and a bed that is welcoming.
Me - OK....if you haven't tried the Chicken Cheesesteak Saute' for dinner yet, you need to. It's SO YUMMY!!!! We had that for dinner last night and it was fantastic, I highly recommend it. Today I go to the DMV and get a new driver's license. I lost mine a couple weeks ago and this was the first time I could get an appointment. But at least I don't have to stand in forever lines. I'm so glad they started taking appointments! Laundry tonight, but other than that no much. Going out to Palm Springs for the weekend, so I might start packing as well.
Have a fantastic day, ladies!
07-09-2008, 09:32 AM
Slept through my alarm this morning and missed my morning workout. I guess I will have to run to the gym after work now. I feel terrible when I don't start the day at the gym.
I am over that peanut butter cup I had last night and I will run to the store today to try some sugar free fudge pops.
Hope everyone has a great day.
07-09-2008, 09:43 AM
Morning Chicks! Another rainy day here but supposed to clear by afternoon!
Love zucchini! Noticed this morning I have 2 that need to be picked this evening, debating on what to do with them!
Catch up day at work. Scales are being much nicer to me since my total disaster of a weekend. You can tell yourself a million times it's mostly water but somehow it just doesn't matter when you see that higher number.
Have a great day ladies!
07-09-2008, 09:50 AM
Schmoodle your evenings by the pool sound so nice. As far as being pregnant my time is only when God blesses me. Dh and I have talked about adopting being as there are so many children out there already who need aloving home. Hope you get to catch up on your sleep tonight
Heather glad you enjoyed your dinner - it sounds delish
Good for you Nessa on getting that workout done
07-09-2008, 09:56 AM
Ruth: We were in the same boat as you this morning...ran the a/c all night and it was freezing this morning. (I'm sure I'll appreciate it in a few months when freezing is the norm. Have a good day doggy-visiting with Disney. I hope all goes well. Our favorite thing to do with zucchini is to slice it into 1/2" slices, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with a mixture of parmesan cheese, italian herbs (typically dried), garlic powder, salt, pepper and some cayenne sometimes for a kick. Bake at 350* until golden brown and crispy. Mmmmm....good!
Cat: Interesting recipe. I'll have to try it when I hit maintenance. Hope your soreness has worked itself out. Is the drive to BR for fun or for necessity? Either way, I hope it's nice.
Cottage: Sorry about your procedure coming up. I take it you've had one before? I can't say that I have, but after going through the process with DH, I'm fairly sure you'll get through it fine. You're a tough woman. ;) (Not like DH who is a pretty little girl when it comes to that type of medical "investigation".)
Cyndi: Hope the doc is able to figure everything out. Dizzy spells can really be scary. We're in summer-squash overload right now. I can only eat it for breakfast and dinner in the same day. Luckily the picking season is short enough that we don't get too tired of it.
rebel: Congrats on getting through the Bday party!
Jessie: I'll have to try your zucchini method. Probably takes less time than mine. Hope the glucose results come quick!
Gonna: I just think it's weird they told you that you should do that without giving a reason for suggesting it. Hope it all gets straightened out.
Nessa: Sorry about the scale. Could it be a boost in muscle mass?
Schmoodle: Hope you get some sleep tonight. I think I'd kill DH if he woke me up with the tv at 2:30! Get some rest.
hmacneil: Wow-how great that your DMV takes appointments! Ours doesn't, but that still doesn't mean that there's ever a line. (With 7,000 people in the entire county, I'm sure they probably have days when not a single person comes in!) Enjoy your day and good luck packing!
thunder: Don't you hate not getting your workout in before the day starts? I love that I can cross it off my list for the day. Then anything I do after work is just a bonus!
Me: Well, we got home from work last night only to find a 3 foot wide by 4 foot deep trench in front of our driveway. The city is bringing our water infrastructure up to code. So, that was expected. What was unexpected was that they cut our phone lines so we have no internet and the two elderly couples that live on our side of the street have NO phones. We're fine with just our cell phones, but what if they have to call 911 in the next few days? It was clearly a mistake on their part and the phone company will be here "by Friday". What a pain.
But, on a good note, we both liked The Hulk and I was able to make some jewelry after the movie to sell, so hopefully there will be some more income coming in from that.
Well, off to work for the day! Hope everyone to come has a nice Wednesday!
07-09-2008, 09:59 AM
Stephanie: I'm with you on the water weight thing. I went through the same thing this past weekend and I'm so glad I'm back to where I was before. Hope you get caught up!
Hi I'm here only swamped! I still have to update the exercise thread
07-09-2008, 11:12 AM
Kim - you do know we have to see pictures of the jewelry?!
07-09-2008, 11:55 AM
Kim - you do know we have to see pictures of the jewelry?!
Sure! I'll have to wait until the internet is back up at home as that's where most of the pics of my jewelry are stored, but here's one piece that I brought to work today. This is going to be sent to my partner in an online craft swap.
07-09-2008, 01:35 PM
Just popping in real quick while I'm waiting for some signs to print for work. After a long weekend out of town, I'm back on the wagon. I've missed eating healthy actually. I get so sick of fast food on the road. Blech.
So with a house full of healthy things to eat, I'm going to eat it up and be good. I'm trying to do the "only eat when you're hungry" thing, which everyone knows is a hard thing for me to do, as I'm a bottomless pit and love how everything tastes. Gonna eat up the leftover WW spaghetti from last night for dinner tonight.
Well, almost done printing so I need to make like a baby. Hope you girls are all doing well! Missed ya!
07-09-2008, 01:45 PM
Well, almost done printing so I need to make like a baby.
I thought this said "I need to make a baby." !
07-09-2008, 02:10 PM
rebel - Glad the party went well. I'm going to try to get on my email and catch up on the kids.
The court counselor came this morning. She looked over the entire house and yard (even in every closet) and visited with the cats to make sure they weren't dangerous creatures. She had a lot of nice stuff to say about how much space my 2000 sq ft house has and she visited with Brian about his Lego models and stuff. I'll go see her in her office in two weeks where she will tell me any concerns and then I can respond to them.
She was supposed to visit with Robert this afternoon but he called her yesterday and cancelled. I guess the family he is living with is having issues and he will have to reschedule. I think they just don't want to be interviewed but I don't know. I told her that I thought he was possibly trying to get an apartment. She said he could still get overnights with a one bedroom depending on how it was set up. He cancelled his visit with Brian tonight which doesn't surprise me. I did mentioned that he has cancelled 5 out of the last 7 visits just so she would know.
07-09-2008, 02:17 PM
Barb - how stressful. Is it common for a court counselor to inspect your house like that? I've never heard of it with my friends that are divorcing.
I hope your ex gets his act together for your son's sake.
Jessie- My neighbor gave me a little lecture about bringing the baby into the world too early just to get a tax deduction....but I swear that wasn't the reason. :) It was just the only day the doctor had an opening...and he wasn't willing to do it on December 25 if he didn't have to.
I've been living a sbd phase 3 almost solely since I got pregnant. It has all the necessary nutrients and is very healthy. It keeps me away from fast food and ice cream - although I haven't completely stayed away from ice cream. ;)
I hope they are successful in finding out the sex *crosses fingers* I know it is rather early though.
07-09-2008, 02:32 PM
Yikes, Barb! I think if anyone came to decide if my kids should stay based on the state of my closets and how nice my cats are, I'd be in big trouble! Bizarre how these things are suddenly important when there is a divorce. I'm sure you passed with flying colors anyway, and your ex is certainly not setting the bar too high.
07-09-2008, 02:42 PM
Texas doesn't always do family visits but if they do it for one spouse then they have to do it for the other one. They have to interview every person that the child might live with which means the husband, wife, 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son that Robert is living with. A family visit is easier than dragging them all to downtown Dallas. And while they do have a beautiful house, it will let her see how big the dogs are that live there (one of which is afraid of males) and the fact that Brian would be sharing a room with Raphael.
Believe me, just a week ago my house was a mess! I've spent a LOT of time going through boxes and surfaces and hiding what was left after I trashed a lot. Then I took the easy way out with the maid service for a one time cleaning. I don't know if she needed Brian to be here but it was nice that he got to show her his stuff. The closets weren't perfect but I was less worried about them. And she finished just in time for me to take Brian to day care for his field trip to do Tai Kwan Do.
07-09-2008, 02:57 PM
well, doctor said i can slowly get back to exercising as long as i have no pain or persure in the area. after he asked what the other doc said about. didn't tell him i had been doing the wii fit. but i knew i had to watch it. second doc on the 25th and treadmill here i come. i have missed you!!!! :)
07-09-2008, 02:59 PM
Barb - you are an incredibly strong person. I'm not sure that I could have been so calm about the situation. Like Zeff said, I hope your ex gets his act together so that your ds and him have a good relationship as he grows up. Hang in there and know you're already doing a great job!
Kim - Very pretty! Thanks for sharing.
07-09-2008, 03:17 PM
I'm glad your court counselor visit went well Barb. You are an incredible woman and a perfect mother. Too bad the same can't be said about Robert. Brian sounds like he's happy and comfortable with his life now, and so do you. :)
Your bracelet is gorgeous, Kim! I can't wait to see more!
Everything went well this morning, and I even got the bloodwork done. I'm happy that I talked the doctor into giving me the pills to take the day before, rather than having to drink that dreaded liquid stuff. So I'm scheduled to have the procedure done on the 28th, and I promised not to cancel out this time. ;) Nervous energy can be a blessing - I came home and cleaned out all the kitchen cabinets and the pantry and lugged two big bags out to the trash. Now everything is all nice and organized, and I even found things I forgot I had! Jake will be happy, I just put a pork loin in the oven that had been marinating in a soy-citrus marinade, surrounded by sweet potatoes, white potatoes (for Himself), onions and carrots and topped with fresh thyme. It smells divine!
07-09-2008, 03:18 PM
It reminds me of when my mother comes to visit ;)
Next time I'm taking Barb's route and hiring a one time cleaning crew.
07-09-2008, 03:22 PM
I hired a Maid Service to come in and help me for my daughter's graduation party. My arthritus was really kicking up and there was no way I was going to get the house the way I wanted it so I got some help. It was great, wish I could afford to do it more often.
07-09-2008, 03:41 PM
Back when I had a larger house and regularly held big parties, I used this service about twice a year to do a thorough job. This cleaning will be nice since I have Brian's birthday party on Sunday and then a big Twilight Camp staff party on the 19th. It's expensive but it was well worth it. Now if I can just find a yard service.....
07-09-2008, 05:27 PM
I thought this said "I need to make a baby." !
Oh GOOD GOD no!!!! :lol3: I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet! I was referring to the old "Time to make like a baby and --head out--." (Ha. Ha ha.)
07-09-2008, 11:17 PM
Barb - glad it went well. I was thinking about you this morning.
07-09-2008, 11:44 PM
Thanks, rebel, I think all the good thoughts helped.
Brian was given a basketry stool kit today that he needs to finish and then contact his merit badge counselor. He got it about halfway done. Meanwhile I'm working on a flip chart for a presentation I have to give at the Wood Badge staff development session on Saturday. It's so much more painful to do than a PowerPoint presentation but I'll give it at the second weekend on the course and we're in the back country with no electricity so I'm stuck.
At least we had time to work on these tonight since Robert didn't get Brian.
