30-Somethings - Swimsuit/Shorts Season::June 1 Goal
03-21-2002, 10:06 AM
I want to drop 5 lbs by June 1. I've been sitting around the same 173-175 for too long. I was at 171 for a little while there and I so badly want to see 169.
To get there I will:
and think about what I'm eatting again
anyone care to join me????
03-21-2002, 11:31 AM
I too have been struggling around the same weight for a while and I definitely want to be a bit smaller by the time shorts/swimsuit season rolls around (for those of us not in Florida !! :) )
I'm trying to figure out how ambitious to be.....I guess I'll say I'd like to be at least 145 but preferrably 140. Anywhere within those ranges will be okay. I used to be able to assume I could lose 1 pound per week on average but lately, maybe as I get closer to my goal, things have been tougher so that's why the range might be a good idea.
I'm also going to try to drink more water and exercise 3 times per week!
Come on everyone - join in!!!!!!
Great idea Jul,

Hi there I usually don't scroll down this far. I like having a 30s page. My name is Daphne I am 37 and live in Washington. I have my son up all next week so wont really worry about the diet as much. Yeah I said the D word. Sorry but if I say to myself * New way of eatting* I am more likely to eat that extra cookie or whatever it is. I would love to start posting here to if that is OK? I am 5'3" and 220. I would love to lose 10 pounds by June first. I was going to say 15 but I want to meet and beat that goal. Cya around. Daphne

OK, sounds good. I'd  to lose 10 pounds by then, but 1 pound/ week has been tough for me also so I'm going to do as Elisa did and do a range - from 5 to 10 pounds by then.
To do that, there are things I'll need to change. The first thing I'm going to work on is my mindset.
Welcome Daphne! Join us on our weekly thread also - people check in daily (or whenever) there.
OK, I didn't know if we were going to update our original posts or add new ones? But I thought I'd update here. I've got my first results.
Starting weight - 183
4/4/02 - 182.5
4/11/02 - no weigh in
4/18/02 - out of town
4/25/02 - 185 :(
5/2/02 - out of town again!
5/9/02 - 184.75 (down .25 - it's a start)
5/16/02 - 184.5 (down .25)
5/23/02 - 182.5 (down 2)

Hi guys, great idea. I would love to join. I am going to finish the easter goal, which puts my last weigh in at 3/30 so I will have about 9 weeks till june 1. I will be going for 7 lbs. Will let you know the #'s after the easter goal.
3/31: So, yesterday I weighed 143.5 at home and 143.0 at WI. Today - 148!! I am unofficially saying that my June 1 goal is 143 - 7 = 136, but I will revise this if next week I am at 149 or something (could happen, I have been eating a ton and am going on vacation). Hopefully, AF is to blame and not the chocolate!
03-21-2002, 09:26 PM
So exactly why did I totally miss the Easter goal???? I never even saw it !! (good - something else to read so I can avoid packing an order).
I did update my health section on my big household notebook (my brain thing) . Did my measurements, made a new exercise/water log and will try to keep track of what I'm eatting.

Hi all... I am new here... I lost 17 1/2 lbs before Xmas.. I was at 130.... Life was grand.. I did the Berstein's diet.. brutal but it worked until I started to hit stress in my life.. I managed to find a new job and move back to my home town that I have missed for 7 years.. Great to be back... but I have been celebrating with food and drink non stop I am approx 10 lbs heavier and need to get control again! Help! I am in the dental hygiene profession... but you would never know it the way I can pack back the carbs and sweets! I would love a place to check into to before focused again... June 1st sounds great! Lets do it!
1. Exercise more
2. Eat more fibrous foods
3. Cut back the sweets
4. Drink WATER!
I'm Nadine.... nice to meet all of you!
1 am 53' and 140ish..... and not very fit!!!!!
04-01-2002, 12:38 AM
Welcome Nadine, feel free to also join us on our weekly thread, thats where we do our daily banter.
I'm with you in the fiber. We're getting ready to travel for over 3 weeks and my goal is water, fresh veggies and fruits in the truck for munchies. Daily walk even if its laps around a gas station or hotel!! (I know we'll get plenty of walking at Disney and Naples but we have one week at my M-I-L's I'll probably take a few therapy walks while there. - jul (still 20 to go. I'm tired of being stuck at 172).
04-03-2002, 05:35 PM
From today, this gives me 8 wks, 3 days. Knowing my record lately, I'm gonna go conservative and say 5 lbs. Anything over that is gravy!
Actually, I am 187-188 right now. I am hoping to be down to 170 when I leave for vacation 6/29. However, I'm afraid I will jinx myself if I officially make that a goal. Therefore, I will just say that I will be happy with 180 by 6/29, estatic w/ less than 180.
04-04-2002, 07:44 AM
Hi ... great idea. I haven't worn a swimsuit in years. Actually, I could care less, but I would like to wear a pair of shorts without having to reveal lumpy thighs.
Today is D-day. I weighed 180 on my scales this morning, which I believe translates to about 190 at the doctor's office (but we won't worry about THAT).
The 5-10 lb range sounds like a good idea. The way I've been eating lately, I'll probably (hopefully?) lose 5 pounds TODAY on my Weight Watcher's plan.
Just had my first glass of water, and I'm going to walk this morning (I'm out of coffee beans... good excuse to walk).
good luck everyone!

Hi all! I have decided to bite the bullet and join a 6 week fat loss program at the gym! It is 6?? Canadian...... Basically you workout 3x week with a trainer for 30 mins each time... They give you a shopping list of foods to have in your house.. They give you a meal plan with a balanced food plan... and ofcoarse... tonnes of water.. You basically take measurements:?: :dizzy: before and a picture of yourself and at the end of the month of April you have a chance to win 1000.00 bucks...sounds good to me! basically I need someone to be there behind me to encourage me to eat right and make me stick to my 3xweek gym regime... so if any of you want to join me on this journey, I am starting Monday... April 8th and will be done at the end of May... right before your long weekend up here in Canada! I hope everyone is prepared for the weekend! I have to work tomorrow morn... so I am off to bed! zzzzzz Nadine(smiles) 53' 140ish.....
04-08-2002, 05:51 PM
Nadine - good luck with your new program!:)
04-11-2002, 01:09 PM
I'm going to set a reasonable goal, I really need to make it.
1) I have 7 WI before June 1 so I want to lose 5 lbs.
2) I want to drink all of my water each day (I've been really bad about this lately)
3) I want to exercise at least 3 times a week (I've also been bad about this)
Let's see how it goes.
Starting 4/9 : 252.4
4/16: 250.0 (almost back to my original starting weight :o )
4/23: 250.2 (a little bit the wrong way :( )
4/30: missed meeting no WI
5/7: 252.2 (a lot the wrong way  )
5/14: 248.2 :D
5/21: 251.4 (This is just rediculous I need to FOCUS!!!)
Ending Goal 5/28: 247
Good luck to everyone :D :D
4/17: was pleasently supprised at WI last night and lost 2.4 lbs I think some of it was wearing summer instead of winter clothes. Let's hope I can keep it up.
4/25: stayed pretty much the same at WI tuesday, not suprised, but need to get back on track this week :^:.
5/16: I'm not sure what happened but I'm down this week I need to try really hard to stick with program this week so I can loose another 1.2 and meet that goal despite a couple of set backs  .
5/22: Up again, I need to focus!!!!!
04-11-2002, 04:41 PM
I am going to join in, it helps me stay focused!!!
Starting 4/7 : 169
4/21: 165____I think I am at a stand still, but I am pressing on!!! :)
4/28: 165____ Still in this slump. I was jumping between 165 to 170, now I am staying at 165. Will press on!!!
5/5: 165 ____ I lost, and then it came right back. But I will not be detered from my goal!!!
5/12: 164 ___ it is only a pound, but I am glad to have it!!! :)
5/19: 162 ____ :)
5/26: 158 ____ :D
Ending Goal 6/1: Goal 155-159
If I loose 2lbs. per week I should easily be at 155, but my rate of weight loss has definitely slowed down. From what I have read, that is normal, so I will survive that!! But I am still staying determined to see my pre-marriage weight eventually!!!
04-14-2002, 07:11 PM
Had WI yesterday - I am at 143.6:D Very psyched to have maintained. I was going to go for 7, but that is so close to my WW goal I think I will go for that. WOW. so 143.6 - 135 = 8.6 over 7 weeks or 1.2 a week
4/27---141.0-------144 at home, missed wi
Wouldn't this be nice!
4/19: Will miss WI tomorrow as I will be out of town. Thank g_d! For the past several days, I have been "running" and eating out of control. For the past 2 days, I have weighed in at 148!!:o Now, just recently, I would have been happy to see that number, but I had made more progress and don't want to lose it. Could be because I am ovulating. We will see next week (right now, I need to lose 7 lbs to make my goal )
4/27: Dang, missed ww. Weighed on my scale at 144. Usually weigh a bit less at ww, so I am considering it a maintain - which is what I was expecting. Gonna go for a loss this week.
Everyone else is doing great! Keep it up
5/9: Well I seem to have dropped the ball and run over it with my car! I keep picking it up but it just won't bounce. Working on patching it up...
5/21: Wow - 5 bad weeks here. Maybe I have some type of pathological "goal fear" My revised goal is to get back where I started. I have 12 days and 5 lbs. I may not make it, but it might happen, considering how much H2O I am probably retaining.
04-16-2002, 12:08 AM
I have been real busy and not able to get online... For a week now.. I have been making an effort to drink water, workout and try to eat sensibly.... so I too want to go for broke and lose 10 lbs by June 1st... That is 7 weeks....
I find the hardest thing is not eating before bed.... Anyone have any pointers?
See you...... Nadine
04-16-2002, 09:57 AM
Am I ever glad I found you. This thread is me through and through. 35 almost 36 and fretting swimsuit season. Yesterday was bad enough, I put on a pair of shorts. Last year I lost 34 lbs. then I have gained 13 over the winter. Needless to say the shorts did not fit very well. I of course knew I had gained this weight but for some reason could not motivate myself to do anything about it.
Yesterday was the start of my new eating lifestyle. I prefer calling it a DIET because no matter what I go back to eating sweets. And when I start I HAVE to eliminate them, otherwise I continue to overeat. For some reason the sugar triggers my desire to shove more food in my mouth. It's kind of like potatoe chips....you can't eat just one. One bag I have no problem with that.
So here is my goal:: By June 1 I want to lose 9 lbs.
WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER
4/22 166.2 -1.8 YEAH
4/29 164 -2.2 -4 total
5/6 165 +1.0 -3 total
5/13 165.4 +.4 -2.6 total
5/20 164.6 -.8 -3.4 total
THE DAY OF TRUTH.....Did I make my goal?? 6/1
WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER
Good Luck Everyone!!
;)159.6 Still darn happy even if I missed it by .6.
04-16-2002, 02:57 PM
I need to join in on this one so I can see my weekly results.
My goal is to see 153. That will be -20 lbs for me and I'll be more than 1/2 way to my final goal.
4/13 - 158
4/20 - 157.5
4/27 - 157
5/4 - 158 (rough out-of-control eating week :( )
5/11 - out of town
5/18 - out of town
5/25 - 159 -- hmmm...I need 6 lb loss in one week???
6/1 - 161
04-22-2002, 01:49 PM
 Wow lost I think we must be twins! I know that if I stay away from candy I do fine. Take one bite and I am lost to munchie land. I tried to see about that last night. I ended up eating 8 licorice and 2 mini peanut butter cups.:o I was hungary all night even. Love to dream about big greasy cheese burgers and onion rings
I woke up with a headache and no energy today so I know the candy is a :nono: for me.I also didn't drink enough water yesterday. DUH why do I do this to me? I want to lose 10 pounds by June 1st also.
4/20- 220 2 pounds gone 8 more to go!
4/27- 219 3 pounds gone 7 more to go!
5/04- 215 7 pounds gone 3 more to go!
5/11- 212 10 pounds gone 0 more to go!
OK I made my goal so now I need another one. 3 more weeks and 5 more pounds? New Goal will be 207.
5/18- 211 1 extra pound gone 4 more to go!
5/25- 210 1 more pound 3 more to 2nd goal
6/01- 208 2 pounds this week so that made 14 pounds in 7 weeks.

Thought I would post to give everyone a little encouragement. A few people are struggling and things are going great for me and I know one of these days i'll be on your side of the fence and need some encouragement.!
Last year I attended WW and when I came to a Plateau that I could not get off of they encouraged me to up my pts. by 2 which would be 100 calories per week. If we stay at the same intake all the time our body gets bored with it just as we do by eating the same foods all the time. Also by exercising your body is using more energy so therefore needs more nutrition. I know it sounds horrible to be on a diet and eat more food but it really does work!! After a couple of weeks of increased pts./calories then you can decrease again and you should be able to see your weight go down again. Good Luck. I know how discouraging it can be to be stuck. I have been there.

I'm refocused. I've stayed around 172-174 all year. 3 weeks vacation didn't help much - lost some of my 'tone' but only gained 1 or 2 lbs. I'm back to 173 and started walking again this week.
Increasing the water (w/lemon sometimes) again and switched from diet coke to Fresca (the grapefruit/citrus drink). I'm enjoying my 2 walks a day. The morning walk is at 2 miles and is more of a power walk with the dog and a bit of jogging thrown in just to prove to myself that I can do it. The evening walk is usually with the kids and dog and is more relaxed.
I already had a taste of swimsuit season during vacation at Naples FL so I really want to work on toning and slimming. My new goal is to be at 169 by May 15. If I keep on track I can do it.
lostandfound: I've been hearing alot about adding some calories when being on a plateau for extended time. I don't really track calories or points or anything but have tried to increase my protien lately and hope that works for me.
04-30-2002, 03:30 PM
Lost & Found - thanks for the info!:)
Jul - hooray for being refocused!:D
05-02-2002, 09:44 PM
I'm getting closer - 171 this am.!! - jul
05-03-2002, 09:39 PM
You go Jul!
05-09-2002, 04:23 PM
I guess since I've finally seen a loss (been a long time) I should update my stats. For a while there I didn't think I would make it now I think(?) I can at least make the top end of my June 1st goal so here's the latest:
Starting June 1st goal weight: 152 (not too sure could have been more)
Current weight: 148
June 1st goal: 140-145
How's everyone else doing??
05-09-2002, 05:42 PM
Yay Elisa!!! I, unfortunately, have been missing WI's and am UP! (think these two things are related??. I set a very ambitious goal as a modest goal would have put me just a few pounds from my ww goal. Now, I am hoping for 140 (5 lbs above my ww goal).
I will do an "official WI" next Saturday and see if this is possible. I was 149.5 this am, but 147 yesterday. Hmmmm..... Will be lucky to get back to my starting weight of 143.
Congrats to Elisa and all you other losers!
05-10-2002, 12:27 PM
Elisa - congratulations on your progress!:D
Bailey - I have been missing weigh ins and am also up - and I, too, think they're related! I have 1.75 pounds to go to get back to my starting weight.
I've been updating my results on my first post.
05-11-2002, 02:51 PM
:) OK all I have been doing updates on my first post like Rabbit. I made my goal today! I was getting off and on the scales and was making sure that it was right. So now I am shooting for 5 more pounds by June 1st. I didn't even realise that I had made that goal. So since I recommitted myself that made 10 pounds for me. So it was 4 weeks and 10 pounds. I am drinking my water and walking this time more so that in prior attempts. Pop isn't that great tasting for me again and cutting caffine out has been a great help for me. I have a non fat suger free iceed latted 2 times a week is all now. Pop now and then and it has been caffine free. I did 2 miles yesterday and want to do that today again if not more. Have a great Mothersday everyone! Daphne
05-12-2002, 08:32 AM
Happy Mothers Day everyone!
Daphne Congats on making goal already . Good Luck on next 5 lbs. I know you can do it!
Elisa Doing an awesome job also keep it up!
Bailey I'm in your boat. I'm a yoyo right now. I need to stay off the scale for a while. And stay OP. :dizzy:
Jul You are doing great too! Less than 3 weeks to June 1st.
I know what I need is exercise. That starts tomorrow. I figured out a plan. I can go to the High school and walk the track. That way my kids can play doing whatever within the track area and I can always see them! Also if they want to join me they can. They will know where I'm going. In a circle!
Sounds kind of boring but I do like running/walking on a track. I participated in track since 5th grade. So i'm used to the boring circle thing. Also the high schools track is by a busy steet I can watch cars go by.
05-13-2002, 01:16 PM
DAB - CONGRATS ON MAKING YOUR GOAL!!! :D
L&F - Great exercise idea!:)
05-21-2002, 12:35 PM
Dabrat - Congrats!!!
06-01-2002, 01:07 PM
:) OK How did everyone do with this challange? I lost 14 pounds and built up muscles with the walking. I didn't get to walk yesterday due to junk getting in the way. I made my first goal but missed the 2nd one by a pound. Let me know how you all did! Daphne
06-01-2002, 01:34 PM
Hi everyone! I almost made it. My goal was 159 and I made it to 159.6. I'm pretty proud of that considering my life has been in total turmoil lately. But that is another story.
Everyone have a great summer now that we are all a little lighter.
06-02-2002, 02:21 AM
Wooohoo Meika! I am proud of you! I hope to be that weight this year! Daphne
06-02-2002, 08:11 PM
Wow! I didn't realize this goal is over! Time flies.
I did not make my goal - I lost .5 pounds. However, the good news is that I finally have myself back on track - it has been awhile. So I'm feeling good!
Congrats to you all!
06-03-2002, 09:11 AM
Not so good here -- I gained 3 lbs.
I'm turning a new leaf and getting refocused.
Congrats to all those who made their goal!!!!!!!!!!!
