This is my "maintainence day" for calories.

Breakfast--two slices wheat toast, dab of butter/jam, hot tea, grapefruit
Lunch--pita bread, chicken salad sandwich, raw sugar snap peas, 1 ww Fig Newton
Snack--mini V-8 drink
Dinner--roast chicken, inst mashed potatos, green beans, low-fat canned crescent roll, iced tea.

~1700 calories, 17g fiber.

How was everyone's weekend?

Hi chicks....I had a good on plan day yesterday. It's 5 in a row now. I am so, so grateful. I got in a few minutes of chair exercises.


stretches - chair exercises
ice/heat/Tens unit
lots of water
log food

breakfast - egg white scramble with ketchup, peanut butter toast, 1/2 banana
lunch - 'fried egg white and mushroom, onions and brown rice, steamed carrots
snack - cereal, fruit, milk
dinner - pancake night - 12 grain pancake, boca bacon stips, sf syrup
snack - cinnomon toast, sf hot chocolate, peanbutter spoon.

Hi chicks, I was on-plan all last week, and pretty good over the weekend, except I did eat a few bites of cake at my niece's graduation party yesterday. I did not show a loss for the week, so hopefully I will have something to show for my efforts at next Saturday's weigh-in. It is brutally hot and muggy here and we don't have AC so that will be helpful in the eating department this week - I never feel like cooking eating much when it's so hot, and we'll probably hit the pool every day after school. It's just been too hot to walk or WATP, so exercise hasn't been great.

B: zucchini with meatballs, coffee with milk
S: tomato juice and a hardboiled egg
L: tuna salad with cottage cheese and lots of veggies
S: iced latte, 1/2 cup strawberries
D: taco salad or chef's salad, NSA fudgesicle
S: Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup strawberries

My plan is to journal everything I eat (aiming for a 1,000 calorie deficit per day), and to walk 5 miles 5 times per week. I've been off-track for the past 6 weeks, and yesterday (Sunday, June 8) was my first day back on plan . . . not perfect, but it's a start!

I did journal everything yesterday, but my calorie deficit was only 305. I walked approximately one mile . . . it was almost 100 degrees and humid here in NYC, just too hot to do more.

It's supposed to be just as hot today, so I'm going to get out the door RIGHT NOW and try to get a little more walking in . . . and I'm going to make my calorie deficit goal today!

EDITED: I just got back from my walk in the park . . . I made it 3.75 miles. I can't say I enjoyed it - the heat and humidity are just ridiculous today - but I survived! I guess I'll have to get started even earlier in the morning if I'm going to do the full 5 miles when the weather is like this.

Hi, Chicks!

Today is my weigh-in. Nothing magical for me...just a .2 pound weight loss. This is the week that I light a fire under my bippity bop and actually try to lose some weight. I've finally reached that point again where I'm sick and tired of being fat. I've opened my calorie tracking spreadsheet for today and I plan on walking this evening with Hubby. It's hotter than 'you know where' out there, but I'm determined to do what I need to. I looked up my weight as of my birthday, July 14th, of last year. I weighed 247.2. I've managed to lose 19.2 pounds since then. I wonder what I can bring it down to by my next birthday?

Hi everyone! So far on plan here, it's just so hot and humid! Not sure what (if any) exercise I am going to get in today. I have to get back at it...it's going to be a long summer and I can't use the heat as an excuse all summer!

thanks mj, you called me out without knowing it. I set an exercise goal every month and track my minutes in another part of the forum. When the server crashed last week, we lost our first week of tracking, and I can't exactly remember how many minutes I did last week. So I thought I'd just bag it for the month and start tracking again for July. But it's been so hot and I realized after I read your post, that I've decided not to exercise the last couple of days because of the heat, and plus, I'm not tracking it anyway...

But I just realized, that's pretty silly, so I am tracking again, and I will get in a good swim tonight.

Schmoodle--Your welcome! I'm not sure what I am going to do today. I have made lots of extra trips up and down the stairs and *hopefully* once the sun goes down a bit I can get in at least a short walk.

I just received the nicest compliment ever! One of our newer managers who I am helping train (I used to supervise her and really pulled for her to get this promotion) called me her mentor. Me?! I told her that I was honored that she thought of me like that.

Well - I did my weigh-in and set up a new tracker and I did use my original starting weight from so many moons ago - I pretty much maintained - I guess that is not too bad for a 6 month vacation. :dizzy:

Yesterday - I tried some new salad recipes and they turned out pretty good, plus they will help me make it through the week so I don't have to put quite so much effort into figuring out what to take to work. It is very easy for me to start taking the same old thing all the time and then I end up messing up my food plan for the day, via the :devil:vending machine:devil:.

I still have to work on my water though.... I have the hardest time getting in 60+ every day - even if I put something in it to give it flavor. The only time I get in any serious water is when I exercise - then by the time I am finished - I have drank about 24 ounces.....it's the other 36 that are giving me trouble. :(

MJ5 - that was a huge compliment - you had to have been so proud.... Congrats!

L: tuna salad with cottage cheese and lots of veggies

D: If not raining, take chef's salad to pool, if storming, chicken stir fry at home
S: NSA fudgesicle

I did well yesterday and only ate a few pretzels at the pool that were off-plan. We ended up staying until 7PM and I was starving! Ick I am sweating already...

Hi Chickies!

I'm trying very hard to stay on plan today... so far so good. I didn't have a very nice weekend eating-wise. The soccer European Cup is being held in my city (and a few others) and everyone is celebrating. Imagine a month of Super Bowl parties. Friday night is when the trouble began. I went grocery shopping hungry and convinced myself I needed to try the new brand of potato chips. Saturday night we were at a party where I ate puff pastry appetizers, cheese and various other finger food and washed it all down with several glasses of wine. Sunday I continued the celebration eating and yesterday it was really hard to get back on track. In fact, I didn't make it. But today is going much better. I think I'm finally getting it through my head that taking a weekend off comes with hefty consequences. I gained 2kg and worse than that is I lost my healthy eating groove.:( But I'm getting it back. The chips are gone and I'm munching on cantaloupe. This weekend I hope I'll remember it's easier to stay with the groove than try to get it back.

Breakfast: bread with butter and jam, cherries, coffee water
Snacks: cucumber, capuccino
Lunch: chicken with rice and green beans, cantaloupe for dessert
Snack: cantaloupe
Dinner: Salad

Good morning, Friends!

Today is on-plan day 1. Hubby and I went grocery shopping last night and I have all of my healthy foods in the house. I'm now ready to see exactly what this body will do when given a chance. I haven't had a 100% on-plan week for a long time. I've also not felt committed like this in a long time.

Today: I'm following sort of a phase 1 1/2 on Southbeach. No white stuff and no added sugars. I am allowing myself 1 fruit each day and I'm having oatmeal in the morning. I'm also tracking my calories. Today is a 1500 calorie day.

I'll check back in again later for personals. I've put off my work for a little longer than usual and it's time to 'get er' dun!'

Hi everyone!

I ate more than I should have yesterday, so my calorie deficit was only -473. On the bright side, though, I did journal everything, and got most of my exercise in despite the incredible heat/humidity. I've walked about 3 miles so far today, and am on track so far for a 1,000 calorie deficit.

Rhonda & Molly -- good luck with your day ones . . . your plans sound great!

Schmoodle -- hope you make it to the pool . . . although I'm hoping it does rain here in NYC so the weather will break.

mj -- congrats on the loss!

Bev -- congrats on 6 days in a row, looking forward to hearing you made it to 7.

Penney -- great idea with the salads . . . I love salad! If you have the time, I'd love to hear more about the recipes.

I will be strong....someone just came around w/ a bag of candy...I politely declined, content to sip my ice cold pink lemonade K2O drink. LOL...it reminds me of a commercial! But seriously, it's hard enough w/ all the other temptations (ie: the vending machine right next to the water cooler), but to walk down the hall w/ candy...not enough work to do maybe?!

I did pretty well today.......stayed on plan - I was pretty sore and it stayed throughout the day - I still went to the gym - but if I am this sore tomorrow - I am going to make tomorrow my off day .

MJ5 - Good job on staying strong - remember the vending machines are the devil.......LOL

Rhonda - You are definitely sounding powerful!!!

Molly - A month of Super Bowl parties - I cannot even imagine - You can do it! You have already identified the problem - you are half way there....

Schmoodle - hope you made it to the pool to cool off. So glad you stayed on plan. :D

Hi chicks, another on-plan day, yippee! We did not make it to the pool because of the storms, but I took advantage of the break in weather and cooked a stir fry, a turkey breast and a pan of moussaka, so I shouldn't have to cook again for a few days. Double yippee! I'm sure we'll go swimming tonight and take dinner up there.

Here's today:
B: Vegetable moussaka, coffee with milk
S: Tomato juice, hard boiled egg
L: Leftover chicken stir fry with brown rice, NSA fudgesicle
S: Skim latte, cottage cheese with strawberry-rhubarb compote
D: Chef's Salad

JollyMolly, DH is glued to the TV these days watching the Euro Cup. He is rooting for his French team and sooooo happy that CNN is televising.

I just got back from the park -- MUCH nicer weather here today, so I did my regular 5 miles. :carrot:

I was fully on plan yesterday with a calorie deficit of -1,386, so I'm starting to make up for Sunday/Monday and am getting hopeful I'll hit my goal of averaging -1,000 per day this week . . . if I can stay on plan today!

mj -- kudos on avoiding the candy walker . . . :devil:

Penney -- good job staying on plan & making it to the gym - enjoy your day of rest if you decide to take it. Mediterranean salads sound yummy . . . I'd love a recipe if you have time to post one :chef:

.. I am on a Mediterranean kick right now and am really loving it Sometimes it really helps to switch things up a bit. I've thought about trying the Mediterranean diet one day. The foods do look different, but yummy.

Meh! Good intentions and all that.:dizzy: There is something to be sad for pre-planning. I got sabotaged by some chocolates on my table. Needless to say, I need to do a kitchen purge.

Today's plan: I need to begin establishing a daily routine that is based upon eating healthy and exercising. I find that getting organized and planning are crucial to my success. The first thing I will do each morning is plan my menu for the day and start my calorie tracking spreadsheet. Also, I need to start eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at approximately the same time each day and exercising at the same time each day.

Hope everyone has a great on-plan day!

PS....Mathpuppy....where'd you go? We miss you!

I posted here early last week. Seems while I've been gone there was a crash and my posts were losts.
So here I go again.
When I got here last week I was feeling pretty down about my lack of progress caused by my not doing what I needed to do.
I was at 220.
Well thanks to this forum and the diabetes one I'm back on track.
I'm doing what I'm suppose to do.
Exercise and sticking with my food plan. I feel really good about that.
I've also shed 4 lbs since last week :).
While veggies are not my thing at the moment I am getting in fruit which is a very good thing.
Tomorrow we leave for Tunica so I can attend a workshop on Autism.
While I'm gone I'll do my best to exercise. (I hope there's a pool)
I will also do my best to stick to my food plan.
I'll account for my actions when I return.

Hi all! I am in a bit of a funk today - just had one of those days where I just was not quite with it and had no desire to be.... that is bad I know. I stayed on plan - but I was still sore - so I just kind of did some stretches and played on the Wii for a little while. Did better on my water though. Oh, and I did park a bit farther away from work...

BRN - Good job - sounds like you are on track - have a good trip!!

Rhonda - I am so with you on the planning - I don't have to have it written in stone - but by Sunday - I have to have a general idea/plan of what I am going to do for the week - otherwise I fumble.....BIG TIME

Schmoodle - Don't you just love getting a couple days of cooking out of the way at one time???? Swimming - that is on my list of things that I want to start doing....I used to love swimming.....

Merksie - 5 miles - that's great - are you a walker, jogger, runner or some combination.... I am working towards the walking & jogging - again - boy - you stop for a month and it might as well have been a year.... Here is one of the first recipes that I tried - the best thing is, you can use any veggies that you want- I just try to avoid the really starchy ones....I have also tossed in some fresh cilantro and it turned out really good. I got the recipe from allrecipes.com - it's a great site.... (the "I" in the recipe is from the recipe site - not me - but they are right.)

4 cups roughly chopped raw vegetables (I like a combination of carrots, red onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, green or red bell peppers, and zucchini)
2 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
1/4 cup sliced Kalamata olives
1/2 cup torn basil leaves
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 pinch Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Toss all ingredients together.
This recipe was originally featured in the USA WEEKEND article The Healthiest Diet Ever on December 19, 2004.

still working on those last five lbs i been complaining about. lose em, gain 'em. its wierd. probably because its hard to find the motivation to fight the fight these days, but luckily i am feeling the squeeze. the proof is that im here and plan to bull doze my way foward in these coming weeks, to stop waiting to be "inspired" to lose weight, cause lets face it, i could be waiting a long time for that to happen.

i been really sick these past few days ugh! so if my entry seems spacy its because i am. see you tomorrow!

Thanks for all the support and encouraging posts. Getting back on track with the eating is proving harder than I expected. I do OK until after lunch, then the afternoons and early evenings is when I slip. My husband has brought home goodies-- either desserts or snacks-- almost every night and that makes it worse.

The good news is that I am getting my exercise in. I take the dog for a long, hilly walk every day instead of once a week. We did miss yesterday because of pouring down rain and a busy schedule, but we went this morning. Saturday I'm going on a hike with a weight loss group I belong to. I'm looking forward to that. I love to go hiking but I'm by no means hard core so I'm reluctant to go with a "normal" hiking group. We've hired a guide and the hike is categorized as easy, so it should be all right as long as the weather cooperates.

Rhonda- I'm with you that planning and organizing is a must. I make my menu on Friday, but I need to incorporate regular eating times because otherwise I get so hungry that it all goes out the window. It's hard to schedule with a family of four all going separate ways, but I think it's what I need to do.

Brn- Congratulations on the loss!:carrot: HOpe you have a good trip to Tunica-- it's not far from my home town, so the name is familiar even though I haven't been there in ages. I've heard it's really booming.

mj5- Way to go resisting the candy :carrot: I'll think of you next time I need to just say no

Penney- Thanks for posting the recipe. It sounds yummy and what's even better is it sounds like something my daughter would love. I'll have to give it a try.

Merksie- I like how you keep track of your deficit. I'd never thought of that. How do you measure the calories you use? Do you have some sort of electronic monitor or do you use a computer program? My calorie counting software is really bare bones, but it's the only one I've found that's geared toward Swiss food, so in the end it's less of a hassle to use than some of the more sophisticated ones that are geared toward the US.

Schmoodle- one of my goals is to go swimming at least once a week. The weather here has been rainy so the outdoor pools aren't so inviting, but I need to make it a point to get to an indoor one. Time is running out for this week...:o

I made my calorie deficit goal yesterday (-1,142), so that's two days in a row. I'm on track so far today, but it was one of those "just do it" mornings . . . I woke up around 7:30 and logged onto the computer even though I know I need to do my walk early before it gets too hot . . . I had a bad case of the "I just don't wannas" but forced myself out the door by 8:15. I'm really glad I did the whole 5 miles, because my college roommate has some pieces in a group art show that's opening today -- the extra calories burned will come in handy since I'll be negotiating a wine/cheese/crackers minefield this evening.

Rhonda -- I've been ambushed by chocolates too . . . sneaky little devils, aren't they! How did your search and destroy mission go?

brn -- Kudos on your loss. Keep up the good work, and enjoy Tunica -- it's a fun town!

Penney -- Congratulations on getting your exercise in despite your mood! I'm just walking for now . . . I hope to work in some jogging when I lose some more weight, but I fear it'd be too hard on my knees at the moment. Thanks for the recipe! It sounds great, and I'm planning to try it this weekend.

Molly -- I use the fitday software -- there is a free version on the web at www.fitday.com. It is a combination calorie tracker/activity tracker/weight loss planner . . . you input your weight, age and basic activity level, and it estimates your calories burned. Then you input your food intake and any specific exercise above your basic activity level for each day, and it tells you your calorie deficit or surplus. It lets you create/input nutritional data for custom foods, so it might work for you even if some of your regular foods aren't in its database.

Bev -- 8 days in a row is a great streak -- keep up the good work, you're inspiring!

Hi chicks, snuck a few more pretzels at the pool yesterday. Didn't know those would be an issue for me, but apparently they are, so I need to get them out of the pool bag. Otherwise on-plan. The scale is screwing with my head though, I am up five lbs. this morning from my last weigh in ten days ago, and I have been 95% on-plan. I'm chalking it up to the salty pretzels and approaching TOM. It's not my weigh-in day anyway so I shouldn't have even been on the scale, that'll teach me.
So, here's today's plan:
B: refried beans with salsa and lowfat cheese, coffee with milk
S: vegetable moussaka and tomato juice
L: leftover chicken stir fry
S: lowfat latte, celery with LCLC (only if I feel I need it)

Hi everyone! I have been super busy (again? still?) at work. This is the first chance I have had to check in today! I feel better today, still having some anxiety, but I can tell the meds are starting to work...just wish they would work a little faster!!!!

math puppy--Welcome back!!!

Molly--Great job w/ the exercise, now if you can just get hubby to skip the snacks you'll be doing awesome!

beverlyjoy--You are doing fantastic!

I am doing very well w/ food choices, exercise is the next hurdle! I will not have time (again) tonight. Tomorrow I AM going to the gym. My back is packed, the mp3 player is charged, I AM doing cardio when I get there.

Morning, Chicks - I had another OP day yesterday. I am so grateful.

Today will be busy. Working this morning. Lots of family will be here for the weekend as my nephew is getting married. There are three big food gatherings this weekend. (rehearsal dinner, wedding, Sunday Bruch). I am planning to do as best as I can. I may not be able to post much. I'll try.

lunch - cottage cheese and fruit, crackers, spaghetti sqash
snack - fruit, yogurt
dinner - chicken and whatever is a good choice (rehearsal dinner)

Good morning, everyone!

Well, it's a darn good thing I got my exercise in yesterday morning, because even with it I only managed a calorie deficit of 10 yesterday :o . . . several glasses of wine at the opening, too much pre-dinner bread and too much food at dinner generally. I really need to get a handle on eating in restaurants and at social events . . . it's been my nemesis for a long time! On the other hand, the opening was a lot of fun, and my friend sold one of her pieces :D

I'm fired up to make today & tomorrow good days, since my weigh-in day is Sunday and I want to see results for my first week back on plan! I'm back from the park (beautiful weather here today), and I'm going to plan meals in advance so I'm sure to stay on track with eating.

Schmoodle -- I do the unscheduled weigh-ins too sometimes, and I also usually regret it! I'm sure the lbs will disappear when TOM does . . .

mj5 -- glad your meds are kicking in . . . hang in there!

Bev -- congratulations on another on-plan day, and have a wonderful time this weekend.

sunshower--I know! I did too!!! I have to tell you w/ out even realizing it, you re-inspired me...seeing someone w/ my numbers and how far you have come...I KNOW I can do it too! It will feel FANTASTIC!!!!

Well, I did it! I finally got my butt back to the gym. Luckily my schedule is much less hectic next week, so I am back to my 'normal' plan of every day after work. To make it even better, I did 60 mins of cardio!!! I feel great!

Math Puppy, I hear you. I've been gaining/losing the same three pounds for a while.

Molly--how was the hike? My DH would like to join a hiking group and going regularly.

Merksie--what do you mean by calorie deficit? I agree--eating out at any social gathering is really really hard.

Beverly--8 days in a row on plan just seriously rocks. You go, girl! Be strong at the receptions and dinners!

I went to some garage sales w/ my grandmother this am. The only thing I bought was a small french rhubarb pie for dh (I don't like pie, so NO temptation for me!) and a pint of the yummiest strawberries I have ever tasted for me. So, not a total loss!

Hi all!

I was on-plan yesterday - calorie deficit of -1,331, which partially compensates for Thursday - grr. I'm taking a day off from walking - cleaning my apartment instead - it sure needs it :o.

Darkblue -- Calorie deficit is the difference between calories burned and calories eaten . . . I use fitday to calculate this. I enter foods eaten and specific exercise in addition to my basic activity level, and the program estimates calorie expenditure for that basic activity level and adds it all up. I'm aiming for an average calorie deficit of 1,000 per day, which at least in theory should result in loss of 2 pounds of fat per week.

Looks like today was kinda slow 'round here. It was a beautiful day out today. Im going to bed early today, in preparations for my early morning exercising. It all starts Monday, im so happy I have my partner in on it too. If it’s the first thing I do everyday then, well, ill get my exercise in every day!

I really got to drop all my regained weight (5 lbs) and then some. I get to go on a cruise to mexico in October!!! Im so excited!!

Also I have 3 weeks to lose as much as I can for my orange belt test in my martial arts school. It will make it sooo much easier on my knees and id rather not huff and puff the whole time in front of the whole school. I want to be a kung fu machine :D

Bev- thanx for the welcome back, you are so sweet. Good luck with the wedding!

Jolly molly-getting back on track is pretty much the same for me!

Merksie- good for you and “just do it” mentalities, I could use some of that!

Schmoodle- I have never known a wine that I actually liked, but I found some at the farmers market that didn’t contain any sulfites. It was AMAZING. I think I will be joining you with wine and chocolates as a treat ! hee hee

Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I have done well w/ food choices today and actually exceeded my water goal (yea!). My gym back is all packed for tomorrow and so is my nice, healthy lunch! I want to get back into doing some cardio in the am too, but this new med makes me really tired, so that will have to be put on hold right now. I really need it (the med) for now.

math puppy--Sounds like you have a great plan! A cruise to Mexico, that sounds fantastic!!!! Ok, now I have the song Kung Fu Fighter in my head!!! LOL! I know, I need to get the balance back into my life--that's part of the problem--too much work!

I was trying to figure out what to do w/ myself today, other than sitting home and feeling sorry for myself (still in missing my dad mode these days) when my best friend called and invited me over for lunch and girl talk. It was awesome!!!! We just sat on her porch and chatted away all afternoon. I SO needed that!

Ok, I need to go eat some dinner, not really hungry, but I need to eat a little something.

mj- isnt it great when you get to spend time with friends? i love how somtimes when you need it most, it just happens out of the blue

i ate pretty healthy today, i cut out some fresh lettuce from my first garden and let me tell you, it tasted awsome!! i think there is somthing that produce loses in the transportation. really, that lettuce like, i dont know how to explain it, melted(?) in my mouth!

ready for my am work out tommorow, wish me luck with my follow through... (not so good at that part!)

Math Puppy--it's been quiet around here lately. I guess a lot of people are just busy with summer plans. The fresh lettuce sounds wonderful! Orange belt? Wow. I barely made it to yellow in Tae Kwon Do years ago, and have an idea how much work that takes! Good luck! A cruise to Mexico sounds great, too. i've never been on one and would love to try it!

mj5--a girlfriend chat on a porch sounds like an ideal summer fun thing to do. *hugs* to you for missing your dad.
