WW Clubs and Groups - 60's and Beyond #113

View Full Version : 60's and Beyond #113

06-07-2008, 10:57 PM
G'day all,

I thought it might be best to start all over again!
You have probably read that the 3fc board had a huge crash and many of the posts have gone into cyberspace.:(

I am looking after the grandgirls today and it is not conducive to posting;)

Hope you are all having a great weekend.

06-08-2008, 05:36 PM
Hi ladies,

I noticed awhile back that you mentioned changing the name of this club to 60's and 70's. How about "60's and Beyond" so there is no cut off age?

Let me know what you think. :)

06-08-2008, 09:38 PM
Thanks Maria for keeping track of us. I hadn't realized that there was a big crash of 3FC. Guess I have been out of circulation some, and not for any good reason. Just busy. I did come and read a few posts, but in looking for Slavika's again, couldn't find it, so decided that must have been one of the ones lost.

Jane: Welcome. I don't know if there will be a name change, but I know I belong to the 'beyond' category. So it doesn't matter to me one way of the other. If you are in the 'beyond' department, just join in anyway.

The most I have been doing is going to the pool every day and riding my bike most nights. I was in the pool today, but took the evening off from bike riding. Thought I deserved it, since I rode 6 miles last night.

I don't seem to be losing much. It is up one and then down one so it is like being on a plateau. exercise hasn't seem to make much difference. I keep within my poins and only once this week did I go over into the Flex point extras, that was only 6 of the 35. I just keep thinking- what would I be if I didn't watch my points and what I eat. Probably as big as a barn. so I'll just keep on. Any pointers?

We had a treat, for us, as I went to our local farmers market this week and they had yellow beans for a change. It is rare here, as it is mostly green beans, so we enjoyed them a lot.

Maria: did you survive that grandgirls all right. I'm sure that a full day leaves you a bit on the tired side. I know it would me. Not much more time before Alan gets home. And then how long before your trek. How long will you gone?

Slavika: It was good to hear from you and all about your sweetie Patches. I'm sure she is really good company. You sound like you are in the same sort of slump weight wise that I have been experiencing. And for me, summer is suppossed to be the best, since I do exercise more.

Hi to all you gals.

Suz- How is the garden?

and BB what is new with you?

take care. Ann

06-08-2008, 09:39 PM
That sounds like a great idea Jane.

I am sure everyone would agree with that one.
I think no-one could think of a suitable new heading but most of us are '60 and beyond':D;)

I seem to be the honoury new thread starter ;):D so depending on the response, I think I will start the thread as '60 and beyond'.

Thanks again for your input.

06-09-2008, 12:31 PM
Hi All: JANE, I think that would be a great name for our little group here.
In looking over my emails it seems that all the gals agree. MARIA you can do the honours in-between all the work you have to to do on your computer. They say if you want a job done give it to a busy person.
We have had a lot rain and it's raining again today but yesterday the sun was shining and it was very nice. I went to Costco with Norma and her DH and Norma always looks so nice. She had on a light weight back linen blouse that she wore as a jacket and looked just super.
The nice thing about all this rain is that my lawn has never looked better. The bad the thing is my dog when she decides to come back in is dripping wet. I am not used to seeing her fur curl as the groomer brushes her out. It looks like I have a new Patches. Did I mention to you all that she likes to watch TV, particularly if there are dogs, cat, bufflalo, or horses in it. She also enjoys the odd cartoon. Funny little thing. Sorry that we had that crash on the board. My grandson took gold in archery this past week and will be in the summer games this year that will be held not too far from us. (he is 14 yrs old and now 6 feet tall) Dance is over for the Princess for awhile and she is busy studing for exams. Both my grandchildren are honour students even with all their activies. Can you tell I am so very proud of them. Bye all for now.

06-09-2008, 01:53 PM
Since this thread is so new, I'll go ahead and change it for you. :) I'm 54, so wasn't interested in changing it for myself, but as one of the moderators here, I try hard to make things better and easier for the WW members. If there is anything else I can do for you gals, (such as a bio sticky, etc.) please just let me know.

Edited to add: not sure if you wanted the words "sexy" or "feisty" left in... let me know. :)

06-09-2008, 09:53 PM
G'day all,

Thank you Jane, looks good!:)

I don't know about the others but 'feisty and sexy' doesn't need to be spelled out, surely that goes without saying;);););)

Slavika you should be proud of your grand children, they certainly are high achievers in their chosen sport/hobby.
Costco is coming to Australia but only to the Eastern states, lil' ol' Adelaide will miss out :(

I just had an email from the friends we are going out bush with to tell us that the dirt roads going north have been closed:(
Still another 4 weeks, hopefully the roads will be passable, it will make for an interesting trip. I know we have to make a number of river crossings and not sure how deep those rivers will be when we get there and of course we have to be on the look out for crocs!

I did my Wii Fit this morning and have lost another pound. Very slow going but the graph is going downwards, which is always a good thing.

06-10-2008, 10:37 AM
Yes, the "sexy and feisty" part DOES go without saying! Please just let me know if/when you need anything else I can help with, ok? If so, PM me, and I'll do my best to help. :)

:wave:Hello Ladies,

I'm new to this group and I am excited find the 60's & Beyond group since I definitely qualify for the beyond. I enjoy some of the other threads, but I am usually the oldest on them. I didn't even realize until recently that WW had this thread. So I would love to join this group and look forward to getting to know you.

I do the WW Flex Program at home and my exercise is sorta limited because of a knee I hurt last year, however, I do what I can and hope that when I get some of this weight off that it will ease up and feel a lot better. I just got back OP Sunday after DH came home from having Radical Prostectomy and he is recovering nicely. Seems like now that this is over, my attitude is better about my weight loss plan. I just wasn't able to concentrate on it until the surgery was over.

Maria - I find it interesting you live in Australia. I have always wanted to vacation there, but I wouldn't be too excited about the crocs. We lived in Florida when DH and I first married and always heard of people finding alligators in their yards, garages or even in their houses. Thank God the only ones I saw were in the zoos. DH tells of one crossing his path once and it was so big he said if he had hit it, it would have demolished his car.

slavika - Your 14 yr old sounds like ours. If he keeps growing he is going to be much more than 6'. All our DGC are honor students as well. Three of them are into sports, etc. 2 of them, DGD. are into everything... sports and dancing. The only thing is all of them live in other states and we don't get to see them near enough. Sure miss them.

Again, I look forward to getting to know everybody.

 Trish

06-10-2008, 03:16 PM
HI MARIA and GLORIA, I see I am getting emails bounced back to me again that I send to you two. I will try once again to correct it at my end. Sally

P.S. Welcome Trish happy to see you on our board. The gals are great and I'm sure you will fit right in. Sally

06-10-2008, 05:58 PM
Ann, I have decided this week that it takes very, very little for me to survive and the only way for me to lose is to eat very lightly at night. I have heard that expression "Eat like a king at breakfast, lunch like a prince and supper like a pauper." That is exactly the opposite of what I do and I am going to try that. It doesn't matter how much I exercise anymore. I just need to eat a lot less. At least I am going to try this. Another thing I am going to quit is having those 100 calorie treats. I think I lose track of how many I do have.

Slavika, I know you are so proud of your darlings and with such good cause. They are great kids, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, or whatever that expression is. They come from a good family. Speaking of dogs, Leon was taking Ginger with him the other day and he was holding her and actually reached down, picked up her paw and had her wave to me as they left saying, "Bye, Mama. See you soon." What is it about these little characters that make us go over the edge, happily?

Trish, are you from South Carolina? It has to be so difficult to live far from your grandchildren but with the internet and cell phones it is easy to keep in touch. I have a great-grandson named Colton. Don't get to see him much, but his mama sent me the sweetest picture of him over the phone. I love technology!

We get rain about every other day and have going into the second year. So strange! And farmers do not need it or want it like this. Makes me fearful for our food supply. I have got to quit reading the paper, so many problems and worries around the globe.

On that happy note, I will tell you good-bye. Hope your Tuesday is a fun and joyful day!

06-10-2008, 09:35 PM
G'day all,

Good to see our new title has worked and we have Trish joining our group.
Welcome Trish, we do talk about many other things then weight loss, not that we have given up ;) but there are many other good things in our lives:)

Glenda I know what you are saying about the little 100 calorie treats, they DO add up!:D

It is babysitting day for me so little time without interuptions!

Alan (dh) has one more weekend in Malaysia and he will be home.

06-11-2008, 09:31 AM
I must have missed this last night. I went to the old site and wondered why it was locked. The new name is fine with me. Haven't been on the computer much since school has been out. We had a big tree limb fall on the roof last week in the storms. No damage thank goodness. Just a broken shingle or two. We were lucky. There were some tornado touchdowns that morning but not on this side of town.
I started riding my stationary bike yesterday. Trying to get in shape since the WW are planning a real bike ride some Friday in the summer. We are getting together on Fridays and doing things around the city. Last week we went to Eden Park and went to the conservatory and then had lunch at the Art Museum.
Maria your trip to the bush sounds like quite an adventure. Can't wait to see pictures and hope you don't meet any crocs. Is Alan home yet? How did the girls like the golf set?
Glenda I think those 100 calories treats are not a good thing. I think of you all the time when they give the weather-I thought we were getting a lot of rain but you are getting some nasty storms.
Trish welcome to the group. Love SC-was just in Columbia for a wedding. My niece lives in Newbury.
Slavika your grands are great kids. You should be very proud of them. Love the picture of Patches.
Hi Ann, Trudy and Gloria and Suz.
Have a good day everyone.

06-11-2008, 02:24 PM
:wave:Hi Ladies

Glenda - I was born and raised in TX and never thought I would nor did I ever want to live any where else, but my hubby of 31 died and then 2 yrs later I met DH from FL and he changed all that. I have 3 DGC and 2 DGGD back in TX. Tony has 3 DGC in FL and 2 in IN. We moved to SC a little over one and a half years ago. Strange thing about DH and me is that he and his wife were married 31 yrs and his wife passed away 2 months before my hubby died. We met 2 yrs later on a Christian website. Neither one of us wanted to ever marry again, but we are very thankful to have each other. He is a real blessing to me.
I know what you mean about the 100 calorie snacks. I think that those WW snacks are what messed me up. It was just so easy to pick one up and eat it instead of cooking. Since I took them out of my life, I don't get hungry like I did. I think they triggered my hunger rather that calm it down.

Maria - I like the idea of a variety of talk. I was with another group like that, but as I think I said before I was the oldest one there and will probably check in with them from time to time as the are a great bunch. Are you babysitting your DGC?

Peggy - I love living in this part of the country. There is so much history here and so many places to see. DH has taken me so many places I always dreamed of but never thought I would ever see. We went to Canada to Niagara Falls last year. I hope to get to DC and he wants to take me to NYC someday as one of our trips. We drive through Savannah to go to FL, but someday I want to just make a trip Savannah to see the museums. I do the stationary bike too. I have a bad knee and according to my sister who had a knee replacement a few years ago said that is the first exercise they start you on after surgery. I hope it will strengthen my knees and legs so that when DH get release from surgeon we can start walking together.

Hey you guys who are getting all that rain can send it to us over here. If we don't get some rain all our plants and grass is going to die. I know y'all are ready for it to stop where you are. I don't see how some places can take any more. DH DS called last week and their garage was damaged and the chiminey had been ripped off the roof. They live in Columbus, IN. Then he called the week end and told his Dad that all of them including the dog were on the roof because their street was flooded. He had been playing ball with the children in the backyard and his DD had gone to get the ball from the front yard and said, "Daddy, water is coming up the street". I hope all this bad weather will stop for all of you and we get some rain soon.

Everybody have a good day.

06-11-2008, 08:37 PM
Good Evening All! I love the new name as it is something we can grow into.
Welcome to Trish, I, too, am in the 'beyond' catagory! Love SC and have visited Charleston and Myrtle Beach. DS lives in Raleigh, NC and when we drive down to see them we usually drive down to Myrtle Beach for a few days. We will usually spend the weekends (long) with them and then go off to see what we can see. I tell them we are only using their house to do the laundry....pay back for all those college years!!!

It has been interesting around here lately what with the weather...we had our first 4 day heat wave....above 90 deg. for 4 straight. I also have been having some health problems. In March I started on BP med that gave me a awful dry cough....lasted 2 months and then we changed to a different med. No more cough....WHEW! Then last week I had a UTI (urinary tract infection) and went to the dr. He drew bloods and gave me a Sulpher drug that went to work immediatly and I will finish the 7 days tonight. The blood test came back showing a high level of sugar. Although I am not diabetic I have glucose intolerenc. Seeing a dietitian next week as he wants me to lose some weight as well as learn about what I can and can not eat. It seems as soon as I hit 75 the ---- hit the fan. At least I am watching myself and being watched by DH & the Dr. so we shall see how it progresses.

Sally: Sorry you are having emal problems again and now you have added Maria to the list. Hope they will help you solve this problem

Maria: As much fun as it is to see the GDS, I know how tiring it can get.
That trip to the outback sounds like it will be a real adventure. It is good that you are going with friends...4 heads are better than 2.

Karen: That is a good idea--the stationary bike--I will have to look into getting one. Both DH & I could take turns.

Glenda: It's great that you are having such fun with Ginger. I have never had a 'small' dog but I would think that they would be easier to care for than the St. Bernards we used to have.

Anne: Up and down is so me. This time I am not trying to lose any specific amount but will be grateful for anything I can kick off!

Norma, BB, Suz Hope all is well with you.

G'day all,

Pleased everyone thinks our new name suits, thanks to Jane for the suggestion and making the change...here I thought no too many people were taking notice of us and here we have a moderator who reads all our posts and then suggests a great new name.:)

Glad you found our new thread Peggy, that would have been a scary storm. It is so good having visited you, I can picture the scene very clearly, you certainly were lucky not to have more damage.

Good to see you as well Gloria, I think our new name and a new member will spur us on to more regular posts.
I hope the other recent new members will find us OK.

What a lovely turn of events for you Trish, great to see you have found a new life partner and you are both happy.

A little about myself, I am 63, married 38 years and I have a married son and daughter and 3 grand daughters
I regularly make little websites to show off the girls to relatives and friends in far away places. Here is the latest http://www.adam.com.au/pdscholz/matildagallery/

My dh still works now and again, he keeps saying he will not take on any more contracts but he always does and he has been the last 3 and a bit months in Malaysia working on the documentation and other things for a new Telco.
Last year we travelled to America, hence I have met a number of the girls here. If you are totally bored you can read my blog on our American trip here http://flaggies.blogspot.com/

I run my own little business, it is more of a hobby but it also keeps the grandgirls dressed, most of my earnings go to them.:)

This will be my last weekend on my own, Alan will be back Saturday week, the 2 weeks before we are off to the outback will be very hectic, catching up with friends and preparing for our trip.

HAve a great day all,

06-13-2008, 01:14 AM
Lots has happened since I posted last.

Welcome Trish. glad you found us, and that you are part of the 'beyond' as am I. We have done some visiting in a few places in S.C. and it is a nice state. We spent 10 days in Savannah once, when our motor home broke down, and we were practically living in a garage. It is a nice city, and we had time to see a lot of it. I hope your HD recovers quickly, and that your knee gets stronger too.

Maria: You sure will be happy to have Alan home. I was talking to Holly about your Wii and she is planning to get one, since she is under Dr.'s orders to lose weight. It sounds as if you are doing well with it. Your outback trip sounds like quite an adventure. Please do avoid all Crocs. They are nasty. I think that from what I have read they are worse than our alligators. GD Kate is doing her internship this summer at 2 different hospitals. She is really liking the hands on experience. I am proud to say by next year she will be a Dr. of physical therapy. She is an ambitious gal.

Gloria: I will be seeing my Dr. in a few days and thanks to your description of your coughing BP med. I am going to get mine changed. What did he change you to? I hope your other health problems will get ironed out soon.

Glenda: I am so happy to hear that you avoided the worst of the weather from your part of the world. And you are right that our little pets really become a part of the family.
I think you are right about the 100calorie snacks. I have made my special snack popcorn, and I have to think about it, and make itin the microwave, so I don't find it so easy to do, so often.

Peggy: Sorry to hear about your roof. You have certainly had a lot of rain, and I do feel sorry for all thefolks who have been caught in the floods and such bad weather. The farmers are really in difficulty. Here it is the tomato farmers. After the scare, but so far out florida tomatoes are cleared from difficulty. This reminds me of the problem with spinach not so long ago.

Slavika: your Patches is such a cute little 'critter' and I'm sure such great company. You have a right to be so proud of your grandkids. Taking gold in archery is quite a feat. I'm glad to hear that you and Trudy get together for good shopping. Do you still haave your 'teatime'?

Suz: How is the garden progressing. It won't be long before you will have early lettuce and scallions for sale. Unless you have been bothered by excessive rain.

BB: Is your singing group still meeting this summer? I keep getting requests about who is going to direct the park chorus in the fall, but I haven't a clue, and since I retired from that job, I am hoping that someone will come forward.

Trudy: How are things with you.

Karen: How about you. Hope you are healthy. Are you drying up like we are? It seems to rain all around us, but we get just a sprinkle or too. Our lawn is in very bad shape with so much brown grass.I have to water my flowerbed every night.

I just looked at the time and I think I should go to bed.

I hope you all have a good weekend. And I hope to have better news weight wise on the next post.

06-15-2008, 02:13 AM
G'day all,

A glorious winters day here, too good to sit behind a computer but alas....

I have had a bit of a spring clean today for Alan's arrival home next Saturday. Won't get much of a chance when he is home and we are making the preparations for our trip to the Outback.
The roads that were cut last week are open again but in a very bad condition, only suitable for 4x4 wheel drive. It will be slow going.

I bought a digital photo frame yesterday, never thought I would like one until I saw one at Slavika's house and was very impressed. Of course I now have to load all the photos onto the frame....:dizzy: I haven't really got the time but it is fun to do and it is bringing back many happy memories.

Ann Holly will love the Wii Fit, I think it is great and it sure keeps you on track. Kate is a lovely girl and will do well in life.

Back to loading the photoframe!

the new name is great even if I am a little under the 60 I was wondering what had happened why there did not seem to be any posts after may 22

we have had a fair bit of rain and very humid weather but the garden is starting to look good but could use some sunshine now we have committed to starting a farmers market on July 4th and some things may not be ready by then We did have to replant some beans as some did not come up and those that did something was eating off the leaves My DH and I do not think that the location is for the market is good its outside the town and I know I would not stop at this place so we will probably set up in town on the main street and if any else wants to set up with us can so we will see what happens

Suz :carrot:

06-16-2008, 08:45 PM
G'day all,

Glad you found us Suz, believe me, before you know it the title will be applicable to you as well ;):D

The older I am getting the quicker the time seems to go, I was 50 only yesterday and now I am 63:?:

Good luck with the market garden bit, I think the best location would have to be a spot where people can walk to purchase their produce, petrol [gas] prices have gone through the roof here:( I know your petrol prices are high but still no where near our pricing.

I booked a flight to Melbourne at the end of August and by booking so early it was cheaper for us to fly then to drive
This morning the headlines are that all airlines are putting up their prices as of today, lucky I have already booked.:)

Watching on the news the many weather diasters in the USA is rather frightening, the lates floods in Iowa are horrendous.:(

Hope everyone is well,

06-17-2008, 12:27 PM
Maria, I am so tired of weather-related disasters. I have friends whose husbands are farmers and they need no more rain. One said she had never had a cow drown in a field in the summer in Oklahoma. One said the rain is going to ruin the crops. This is the second year for this extremely wet weather and if not for climate change warnings, I would just strike it up as a weird year. Now, I don't know.

Got an email from DIL Shanna yesterday. Her daughter, our Brooke, the young mother of our great-grandson had an emergency appendectomy at noon yesterday and could not nurse the baby. I guess it was pretty hectic for awhile until Nanna Shanna persuaded him to take a bottle.

We had all the kids at our house on Sunday for Fathers' Day. It was great! They loved the Wii games, especially the 6-year-old Austin. Wasn't it ironic that Tim Russert died on the Friday before? That was so very sad! I for some reason really trusted him and will miss him in this political year.

Well, today we had a daily thunderstorm before I even came to work. It is raining now even. I am so tired of this, even though the yard is beautiful. Enough is enough.

Suz, glad you found us and the vegetable growing is going pretty well, except for the beans.

Trish, funny how life just keeps happening, isn't it? And so glad it does and you found your blessing. My mother used to say, "Never say never." Isn't that the truth.

Gloria, glad you got your BP cough to leave. That had to be so tiring. My mother had that too and changed her BP meds. Medicine! Keeps us alive but sometimes there is a cost.

Have a great day!

06-19-2008, 11:06 AM
Hello Everyone,

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. It's been hectic around here. It's been 2 weeks since DH surgery and he is coming along nicely. We have drs appointment this morning and if he feels like it we will hit Wal-Mart for groceries. With the rise in gasoline prices we plan trips out a little more carefully.

Maria - I loved the pics of your DGC. The are so sweet... precious smiles. Made me think of mine. I know you're glad Alan will be home again.

Sorry so many of you are having such terrible weather. We could use some of that rain all of you are being flooded with. Let's hope it gets better for everyone. DH son in IN had a lot of damage to his home from all the flooding and don't know if they will ever be able to get things back to normal. I'm sure it is that way for many.

Sorry this is a quick fly by, but will try to do better later. Just wanted to check in and wish all of you a very nice day.

06-19-2008, 11:43 PM
I did post and then we had the big crash, so my gem was lost. ;) So, I will try again. Big HI to Trish! :welcome3: It is always nice to have someone new join us. Looking forward to getting to know you.
I haven't been on the old 'puter much because my hands and wrists have been so sore. I have arthritis in both thumb joints and carpel tunnel in my right wrist. It makes everything difficult.
We had a wet cool spring but this week the temperatures have been great. What with all the cool and rain, plus the resident bunny, my flowers and veggies have had it tough. I am sprinkling cayenne pepper on everything, but tonight when we were going out I saw him lounging amongst the flowers looking quite content. I guess he likes his greens spicy.
We have been attending our granddaughter's soccer games, what fun! That little 5 year old has scored 12 goals so far :cheer2:, of course you have to remember that they are all so little, some of them can't even kick the ball  We were at a game tonight. Our team is called the "Bumblebees" because their uniforms are yellow.
We also bought a new vehicle. It was about time, the old mini-van was going on 13 years old. Really liking the new one.
We took a little trip into the good old USA. It was nice to get away, but so good to get back home. I am not a happy traveler anymore.

This is all the typing I can manage... see you .. :grouphug:

06-20-2008, 04:45 AM
G'day all,

Late friday afternoon here, the house is tidy and clean ready for Alan coming home tomorrow morning.:)
He is arriving at 6.15 am, lucky I am not far from the airport, I will leave home around the same time and by the time I get to the airport he should have cleared immigration and customs.

I had the best bargain this morning, d-i-l asked if I could keep an eye out for sheets as her sheets were just about finished. I love beautiful linen but it is also very pricey. I got 2 sets of queen size sheets that were originally priced at AUS$365.00 a set for AUS$50.00 a set:carrot::carrot::carrot: They were supposed to have had flaws and were sent back by one of our more exclusive linen shops. The girl and myself went through both of the sets with a fine tooth comb and found a couple of minor imperfections, hardly anything to give you nightmares! Peta is thrilled with my purchases and they will be sleeping on their new sheets tonight!

I love getting a bargain!

I can imagine you would be tired of all those weather disasters Glenda, it would seem that your area is always particularly hard hit.

Good to hear your dh is improving Trish, I think everyone is planning their trips more carefully these days with the cost of petrol [gas]:(

Nice to 'see' you also Trudy. What sort of car did you buy? Your car was immaculate, whoever buys that car second hand will have a good car.
Sorry you are having so many problems with arthiritis etc., it must make life difficult.

On the weight front things are looking good, I had a bit of a gastric upset and was unable to eat much these last few days without throwing up (I am NOT pregnant;) :D) I did my Wii Fit this morning and I lost 3 lbs this week:carrot:, the inconvenience of the gastric upset almost seemed worth while:D

The test will come over the next few weeks with a lot of socialising planned. I am going to try not to drink any alcohol that should help keeping me on track.

Hi Ladies:)

I'm now on the Core Plan, after 11 weeks on the flex and not losing but gaining. I'm posting over there now. In the first week I lost 2.6 lbs and I hoping for another loss this Thursday.

I'm not hungry anymore, and I don't have to look up every food point. So thats a plus.My Leader suggested that I switch and so I did.

BB: Is your singing group still meeting this summer? I keep getting requests about who is going to direct the park chorus in the fall, but I haven't a clue, and since I retired from that job, I am hoping that someone will come forward.

ANN-My group doesn't sing in the summer,we will meet up again in Sept. We have an chores that does that in town. Its called " The almost men chores" They sing at all our holiday like Memorial Independence's and Labor Days. Oh I wish you luck, nobody here wants to volunteer and that when the problem begins. Its always the same people that do everything and the other just sit on their fannys and do nothing.

Going to start supper

Well, here it is another week gone by. We sure aren't posting much this summer - guess we are all too busy.

Trudy, I am so sorry you are having visits from Arthur. I just hate to ache and today I am having an ache in my knee. Gee, this getting older is fun!

Maria, you have had your honey for a full week. Yea! I bet he is excited to be home. And what a bargain! Sheets are such an expense anymore, but I love really good ones too.

My sister just called from Desitin, FL where she and her family are vacationing. They have a huge house with lots of bedrooms so her family and her boys' families are all there. My brother and his whole family are in another one. I think this might be what we think about doing next year unless the price of gas is $7/gallon.

We are going to San Antonio in July with older son and his family. Our granddaughter, her husband, and the gr-grandson too.

You all, DH has been off this week and has been bored to death. We are both so afraid of retirement if we get bored in one week. I know, I know, everyone says it is wonderful, just not sure.

BB, maybe the core plan would work for me too, but right now I think it would be too hard to stay on it and eat out. But great loss! You too, Maria. That Wii Fit must be great!

Well, here it is another Friday and wouldn't you know, woke up to rain. Those poor people along the Mississippi.

Glenda I think the trick to retirement is when both of you do it at the same time. My DH and I do so many things together. Neither of us are bored. Believe me, you will find a happy medium and will enjoy retirement.
As I told you all, I changed internet servers and all my e-mail was lost. I am trying to remember what places sent me e-mail regularly so I can change my address, and it is frustrating. I had the pictures you gals had sent out and other choice bits of information, the links to PhotoShop that Maria gave me and that is all gone. All I can say is BACK EVERYTHING UP... but first learn how to do it.. :dizzy: Obviously I don't know how.
The other problem was picking out an e-mail address. You have no idea how my people have my last name. Shaw serves all of western Canada so my choices were very limited.
Well, I had better get back to "work".
Have a great weekend all...

A quick happy post. Saw the Dr. yesterday and my BP is under control. The new med are doing better by me....no coughing which my other med did.
Also the pre diabetic condition is being addressed. Went to a Nutritionist and was given info re: Carbs etc. I have been watching what I eat and the best news is that since the 28 of May I have lost 7.5 pounds. Hahoo!!!!! He said if I can keep it up and lose enough....20 pounds I may not need to be on any med for the diabeties or the BP. I hope so.

Jack is going out on an errand and I need to get going or be left behind...LOL. Gloria

G'day all,

We are off this coming friday on our trip to Cape York, the northern most tip of Australia. The roads seem to be OK but it will still be slow going. I have attached a little map so you have a bit of an idea. It will probably be around 7000 km the round trip.
I am going to miss my Wii Fit but I guess this trip will keep me on the move as we try to negotiate some of the river crossings etc.

Trudy I hope you are getting everything order again on your computer, don't hesitate to ask for anything I can help you with, I am happy to do it.

Glenda you are right we are not posting as much as we used to, we must get back into the swing of it all again.
I am with Trudy we are NEVER bored and always planning/doing something. It really depends on yourself what you choose to do, sure you can sit at home and do little or you can go and experience all those things that you never had time to do before.
It doesn't have to cost a lot of money to stay fully occupied.
We now watch less TV then when we were both working because we do not have the time!!!!
I think the key is to find something you are passionate about (me and my photography, travel, grand kids etc) when you do, I can promise you, you will never be bored.

Gloria good to hear your BP is under control and your nutritionist sounds a great way to help you get rid of some weight. You sure have a good incentive to loose a further 20 lbs and then say goodbye to your diabetes medicines.:carrot:

Suz you are doing well on the weight loss front, I am happy to say that I lost another pound this morning. I was a little concerned because of all the entertaining we have been doing since Alan came home but I tried to be sensible and it has worked:dizzy:

Our son has been approached to coach a cricket club in the Netherlands, they will pay his airfare, accommodation and also pay him a small remuneration. It would be in 12 months time and he would take long service leave from his job to do it.
We have had no intentions of going to Europe again, the flight is just so horrendously long however if he, wife and grandkids are going to be there for 5 months we might just HAVE to make the effort to go and see them whilst I can visit all my cousins at the same time.
Sounds like a plan to me!

I better be off and start getting food etc. organised for our trip.

Hi everyone.
I can't believe that it is July 1st already. How time flies.
And believe me, after 70 it goes even faster.

Gloria: I'm glad you have BP etc under control. I got rid of the cough, and now need to increase the Benecar as it doesn't seem to keep my BP low enough at 20 mgs. so now will double it and see what happens. 7.5 lbs is great and keep up the good work.

Trish: Hope things are better with your DH recovery. And I sure hope that your kids in Indiana didn't have too much trouble with the flooding. The weather has bee very strange. I think we must be going through some sort of cycle, and i'm not sure that we can blame it on Global warming. We are finally getting some much needed rain, but it is still just a drop in the bucket and will take lots more to build up the lakes etc. I don't want any hurricanes, but we do need the rain from a good tropical storm, if it would be possible to have one without too much wind and thunder and lightning. I don't want too much:D:

Maria: you will soon be off on your adventure. I hope all goes well, and that all those tricky river crossings will be easy for you. I assume that you will be in your camper, and living the campers life. I do hope you take some more wonderful pictures.

You gals are both right to tell Glenda about the wonders of retirement. We have had much to do, and I'm so glad that we did it all, before DH got so crippled that walking is a big problem. And I agree, that retiring together is a good plan. Then noone is left home alone. After some adustments you will do just fine.

Glenda: I hope that you may get some summer sunshine now, instead of so much rain. We have been happy to get the rain. I am sorry that it interferes with my pool time, but I really can't complain much since we need it so badly, and I don't have to water my plants now. You and Leon will do well with retirement, when the time comes. San Antonio sounds like fun. We only spent a short time there, but I loved it while we were there. Especially,I enjoyed the boat ride on the river walk. And the history of the Alamo is still fascinating. Be sure and pay a visit to the SAS shoe place. They are the best and most confortable shoes made, I think, and made in the USA.

Suz: I wish you could send me some of your Swiss Chard. One of my favorite veggies, and I rarely ever see it here.
I'm glad you are going to stick with us all, Feisty, Sexy and beyond. I hope you will find a satisfactory place to hold your produce stand next week.

Slavika: What is new with you? I am sure your GRandkids are keeping you busy, and taking care of Patches an giving her all the loving she needs is a full time job. Next week we are going to Williamsburg Va. to visit Holly and family and my youngest daugher and granddaughter are coming from Balimore for the weekend. It will be a family reunion.

Trudy: Haave you ever tried magnetic bracelets for the arthritis in your wrists? I wear one all the time, and I do believe that it helps. If you get a pretty one, it just looks like nice jewelry and still fulfills a purpose. I hope you finds something that will bring you some relief. Will you have to have surgery on the carpal tunnel problem?

Peggy: Hope you have all the tree problems taken care of now. And I'm sure you are enjoying the freedom from being in school every day. I remember how I felt during the summer. And then after I retired, it was wonderful seeing all the school buses going by and knowing I didn't have to be there. How are all your nursing home patients doing?

I have lost 1lb and hope itstays off. It is somehow a bit discouraging, when you can lose the same pound over and over. I don't know about the core. Maybe I should try that. Right now I just can't get to any meetings, as the one all the gals are going to is on Wed. a.m. and I have responsibilities at the clubhouse in the a.m. And now more, since the gal you ordinarily plays music in the a.m. has falled and fractured her arm, so now I am playing the piano. Just never a dull moment around here.

I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, but if I have, Hi. Looks like it is now time to think about getting something to eat for our supper. So long for now. Ann
