20-Somethings - Inspirational quotes...dream boards

Hey everyone!

Well, I've been meaning to jump start my action plan of eating healthy and exercising every day for the last couple of weeks. Still hasn't happened.

I realized I needed something different. This all started when I wrote a couple of messages to myself that I would see right away in the morning and when I got home from work.

My messages are something like this (I'll switch them for the appropriate times)...

"Good morning Tessa! Today you will eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and have a positive attitude. Starting NOW!"

"Afternoon now? You will continue eating healthy...stick to your plan. This afternoon you will work out! Go do it!

I also went online and looked for some motivational weight loss quotes and wrote them on index cards. I am going to get them out to look through if I ever want to cheat on a meal or skip my exercise. Here are the ones I collected.

- You get whatever you settle for

- Clear your mind of 'can't'

- Nothing tastes as good as being thin tastes

- Don't trade what you want most for what you want that moment

- Those who indulge, BULGE!

- Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always
your choice.
Wayne Dyer

- Rule your mind or it will rule you. You may delay, but time will not.
Horace

- You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be.
David Viscott

- The future depends on what we do in the present.
Mahatma Gandhi Eleanor

BellyUp also mentioned something about a dream board...maybe something to put up motivational pictures up on? I think I am also going to dig up some magazine pictures of clothes that I can fit in when I get to my goal weight. When I get there, I can go out and get them :) Thanks Belly!

Does anyone else have other motivational quotes or ideas?

I'm going to start this weight loss journey!

Hi Colaz,
This is a nice idea for a thread. I have always wanted to make a dream board and never followed thru... I just googled and found this 'how to'...
I think I'm going to go for it...

I love these 3. They remind me that I can always do something, and that I must persevere.:

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little. - Edmund Burke

Dripping water can eat through stone. - Chinese Proverb

And the quote from my signature which is part of my signature for a reason:

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill

I do it because I can, I can because I want to, I want to because you said I couldn't

Here are some of mine. They are all unknown authors.

-Just for today: I will gather the courage to do what is right and take responsibility for my own actions.

-Just for today: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things I can correct and accept those things I cannot.

-Just for today: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.

-Just for today: I will live through this day only. I will not broad about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to over-come all of my problems at once.

i read a blog from *heyalexia* and she had a poem on there that i keep in my journal and read when i need motivation

Don't Quit

When you've eaten too much and you can't write it down
And you feel like the biggest failure in town;
When you want to give up just because you gave in
And forget all about being healthy and thin;
So What! You went over your calories a bit;
It's your next move that counts...So don't you quit!

It's a moment of truth, It's an attitude change;
It's learning the skills to get back in your range;
It's telling yourself "You've done great up till now;
You can take on this challenge and beat it somehow."
It's part of your journey toward reaching your goal;
You're still gonna make it, just stay in control.

To stumble and fall is not a disgrace
If you summon the will to get back in the race;
But, often the struggler's when losing their grip
Just throw in the towel and continues to slip
And learn too late when the damage is done
That the race wasn't over and they still could of won.

Life-style change can be awkward and slow
But facing each challenge will help you to grow;
Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint in the cloud of doubt.
When you're pushing to the brink, just refuse to submit;
If you bite it you write it... But Don't you quit

We have the same proverb in Korea as the Chinese one... Dripping water can eat through stone...There were some more Korean ones that I could think of...

One can't be full from the first spoonful of food.

A journey of a thousand miles starts with but a single step.

Many drops of rain make a flood.

Made it to the door but can't walk over the threshold.

I was just thinking about this thread the other night when I finally started working on my "dream board". I haven't gotten very far on it yet since I'm super anal when it comes to things like this (that's why, as much as I WANT to, I just cannot get into scrapbooking - it would take me forever to make the "perfect" page, much less album!). Anyway, I'll be sure to post a pic when I finish. I can't wait to hang it on the wall next to my elliptical and stare at all the motivational pics while I'm working out! :jig: :lifter:

If anyone else has a finished one they'd like to share, I'd love to see a picture of it! :D
