In the LA express booklet, it does mention beans, but does not specify what type. 3/4 cup equals 1 protein. So, in answer to your question, i think that it would be a lean protein, otherwise it would not be in the LA Express booket, which promotes only certain foods at the beginning stage for max weight loss.
Other lean proteins that i enjoy: crab, lobster, scallops shrimp. Tuna can be from a can and water packed.
