South Beach Diet - One year of a new me

View Full Version : One year of a new me

05-07-2008, 07:23 AM
On May 6, 2007 I started a new way of life - I started the South Beach Diet and began exercising. I had a great first 4 months averaging a loss of 5lbs a month for a total of 21lbs gone and then on Saturay Sept. 29th my VERY close aunt passed away - ten days later on Thursday Oct 11th my dad lost his battle with lung and brain cancer and passed away. My life and my familys life began a whirlwind. I slowly picked myself back up and started back into my routine.

In December of last year I went to the doctor due to not feeling well and was diagnosed with MONO and was given very strict orders to not exercise and to get plenty of rest - and thats where I found myself til the begining of February. In the begining of Feb. I was then able to start back with my exercise but only once a week until I got back up to my normal exercise schedule.

During all of this I gained 8lbs back and as you can see I have hit some major brick walls but no mater what I have not once wanted to stop or give up. This s a fight I may have to fight for the rest of my life and I will cause I know one day the bell will sound and I will be the winner.

I'm not where I wanted to be after a years time but I am where I am suppose to be and even though I haven't lost alot of weight in my year I am able to do alot more physically than I ever was. I will contnue on to the very end.

May 07 - 215.4lbs XL shirt 18/20 pants
May 08 - 200.4lbs M/L shirt 1416 pants

I have lost (total) 15lbs & 15 all over inches

Onward to a another new year of a healthier me

Tried to post pics but it says all of mine are to big and if I shrink them they are to small

You have had such a tough year, but you have stuck with it and that's why you WILL be successful in the end! You've done a great job, and look at you now, teetering on the edge of onederland! Hope you can figure out a way to post the pics, I'd love to see them. How about putting them on a photo-sharing host site and linking to them?

What a tough year you have had!!! Major kudos for sticking to the program...that takes such strength. Also, I had a terrible case of mono a few years ago--it was debilitating. How are you feeling these days?

05-07-2008, 10:36 AM
Congrats on sticking with it! What a triumph over adversity! On wards and upwards! Great job!

I really admire you for sticking it out over the last most difficult year. I ate my way through my difficult year (Katrina and losing my Dad) and did not begin till a year after that. I don't know if I would have had your strength.

Congratulations on your achievements. I don't think I could have done it with all the stress you've had. Pat yourself on the back. You are much healthier now!

Gonna, you are gorgeous, girl! :flame: Look at that tiny waist!

You've done so incredibly well! So many people would have let those tough times stop them, but you didn't! That alone is worth celebrating! I know you might be thinking that you didn't lose as much as you wanted, but think about how much you would have GAINED if you'd not been so focused! I bet you've "lost" a lot more compared to where you would have been without your dedication.

You're an inspiration, girl! Just wait until you get to next year...there will be SO many reasons to celebrate! BTW, I think getting into a M/L size is a HUGE accomplishment!!!! :yay:

BTW, if you store your photos in a free hosting site like, you don't have to worry about the size and uploading. I don't know about other sites, but on Photobucket, the code for the picture is right there under every photo--you just copy the code for bulletin boards and then paste it into your post and, voila, you have your photo! :D

Congratulations and good for you. You are very strong and have wonderful determination. Good luck on the rest of your journey.

Thanks Laurie! I guess when we are going through things we don't see it the way you explained it and your so right I could have gained 15 or more instead of lost. I want to give you a big THANK YOU! as you have changed my whole thought pattern of being down on myself as I was thinking all along I should have done more/should have done better.

Thanks for the heads up on the photo site - it's just what I need

WOW you look amazing. Keep up the good work. I will second Lauries suggestion on using photo bucket. Thats the one I use all the time, it is soooo easy. Have a great day.

You look AMAZING!

I know how you feel. I always used to say before I began dieting "for real" last fall that my life had to be calm before I could really focus on dieting. Well, that rule had to be thrown out the window within a month. Life goes on no matter what so we owe it to ourselves to eat healthy and love ourselves while it goes along, right?

I have had some starts and stops in the past 4 1/2 months on SBD but I too am not quitting. How can you quit eating healthy? I mean, what other choice is there? To me that is a no-brainer. I can't imagine eating any other way. I really mean that.

God bless your efforts and your determination. You are already a winner, sweetie, go ahead, crow a little---we'll stand behind you and be your chorus!

Good for you Gonna. You have done a great job. :carrot: I know how hard it is to lose a parent to brain/lung cancer (lost my Mom because of it), but you have really been through it with so much more this past year. You are one strong girl and you look great. No doubt that you will reach your goal.
