South Beach Diet - Get Movin' Monday!
05-05-2008, 07:06 AM
A beautiful sunny day is shaping up for this Cinco de Mayo! I'm off to Curves, then I have to whip this house back in shape and pay some bills. I never did get my gardening done yesterday, (went shopping instead!), so I'll spend some time out in the yard before it's time to pick up the girls. Supper will be leftover lasagna, I made myself a veggie one using portobello mushrooms in place of the noodle layers. It turned out really good, even better than the real thing, IMHO.
So what's happening on your part of the Beach today?

i'm off today. i'm going to do laundry, pick up some groceries, hopefully weed-whack the backyard, get the dogs sometime today and there is a yoga class at 6 i am going to try...

good morning cottage and everyone else. Just a quick stop to say Hi. Another busy day today. DS1 has a cinco de mayo performance tonight and gotta look for the pants he needs to wear. Dh is on meds....YAY! He is a total different person.Makes life so much easier around here. Just started TOM last night and I'm cramping up pretty bad yesterday and now. Aaaahhhh. It hurts. I haven't had cramps this bad in a long time. Not used to the intensity.
EVeryone---hope you have a wonderful cinco de mayo.

Good Morning everyone!
Cottage: that lasagna sounds wonderful! Hope you get some gardening time today!
Nessa: Have a great day getting all of those chores done!
tk: hope you are feeling better soon.
Me: big adventure yesterday. My friend and husband and I went out Sat. night and had a great time sitting on the river at a restaurant out on the deck talking and watching boats come in and out for a poker run (http://www.kodakgallery.com/femmecreole/main/may_03_2008-friends) and our friend invited me out for another trip out in the swamp on the other side from where we went last time to an area that is more swampy than prairie. To get to where we were going, we had to go down a canal for a few miles. A few minutes down the canal, the engine died, but he got it going and again and we got a couple of miles at least down the canal...then it died again. So we decided just to let it "rest" and floated around for about an hour or so while I got some pictures. (http://www.kodakgallery.com/femmecreole/main/swamp_without_battery)(I'm trying to get a good shot for a book cover) A little alligator decided to make friends and stayed pretty near the boat and it was really magical out there with the birds making all kinds of weird noises. Tried the engine again later and no go. He finally decided the battary was dead. So we had to paddle all the way back...with one paddle. It was brutally hot (and it hasn't even really gotten hot yet!) I was pouring sweat and I had jeans on that were soaked and all stretched out. But, it was a lot of fun and a really great adventure!!

cat-sounds like an adventure. It's pretty hot here too and it's not even the summer yet. I hate it.
05-05-2008, 07:39 AM
Nessa, enjoy your day off, you lucky girl!
tkglenn, I'm so glad your DH is back on meds, it will make life so much happier for everyone in your family. Too bad for the cramps, take some Advil and feel better soon!
Cat, I so much enjoy looking at your lovely pictures! That was quite an adventure you had yesterday, I'm glad you made it back safely!

Dashing through with a :coffee: and a big . I was awake in the night a lot and then slept until 7:15! I have a busy week ahead but will catch up later.

Good Morning Ladies!!
tryin to get up and in gear this morning to get to work relatively early this morning!! too much drama going on at work...if people would just act their age, everything would work out!
Cat....I was at Friends (and I'm guessing that's where you were by your description??) Saturday for several hours watching the boats!! Then went down to the mouth of the river/boat launch to watch them.....
Have a good one girls!! I've also planned ahead, but I'll still be going off plan for at least one beer or margarita tonight!!
05-05-2008, 08:37 AM
Cat....I was at Friends (and I'm guessing that's where you were by your description??) Saturday for several hours watching the boats!!
Ah, Mandy...I'll bet we were there at the same time!! We were sitting outside under the upper deck. We got there about 2 or 3 and stayed till about 9. Right when it was getting dark after all the poker run boats were gone, a boat under the bridge caught fire...I have some shots of it in the pictures I took. Good morning chicks. I'm still alive here. DD did a beautiful job at her piano recital yesterday, not a single mistake! I got some grocery shopping and cooking done and got my food back on track. After a busy weekend, the week is off to a busy start too. I'll be spending all day getting ready for my meeting tomorrow. Then I'll need to go with DD to dance class tonight for "mom and me" and swing by the store to pick up refreshments for tomorrow (of course they will be healthy, the guys can just deal). Tomorrow I'll be out of the house early and gone all day. Wednesday is mental health day! I'm trying to get together a lunch date with a friend and I want to go clothes shopping. Last week I was briefing a room full of men (as usual), mostly USMC and Army officers and I was worried the whole time my pants would fall down. It's definitely time to upgrade the wardrobe. I think I need some presents and I haven't had a reward in a while. I can't wait for hump day! Hope you all have a great Monday!

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo, las chiquitas gorditas! :hat:
Cottage, I didn't get to my garden either yesterday. :( DH assured me we'll do it next weekend...but we also have a lot of cleaning to do in the house, so we'll see... Are you eligible to sign up for that Curves/Avon study thingy?
Nessa, I looooove yoga. Hope you enjoy your class!
TK, I'm so glad things are better with DH! :yay:
What an adventure, Cat! I don't envy you the workout, but I'm glad you got such great pictures! What an amazing place you live in! So scary about the burning boat--what did they do about it? Looked like it was pretty close to the bridge, so that's kinda scary! Loved the last shot in that album--reminded me of the Blue Bayou restaurant at Disneyland--which is as close to Louisiana as I've come!
Natalie'sMom, congrats on a better night of baby sleep--now if the 2yo would learn to sleep through the night... ;) Enjoy the walk and :goodluck: on the weigh-in!
Ruth, I'm sorry you had a bad night of sleep! That puts me off all day. :p
Hi, Mandyleigh!
Schmoo, have I ever told you that I adore your tiger avatar? It is just so darn cute! The "I eat" picture is what I look like when I see a cupcake... :lol3: What does the "Mommy and Me" dance class involve? It sounds like SO much fun! I hear you on the shopping--I used a lot of curved quilting safety pins to hold up my pants when I was losing a lot...I was always afraid they'd pop open and my pants would be down around my ankles! :yikes: Enjoy!
I woke up early this morning to visit the ladies' and was SO dizzy! :dizzy: I think I ran into a wall or two... I figured going back to bed would cure it. When I woke up, even though it was better, I was still pretty dizzy (still am). No idea why! :?:
Feels like I didn't do much this weekend, but I did get some sleep, hung out with the neighbors (after going to my neighbor's granddaughter's first communion...it was so sweet!), relaxed with DH and the dog (we watched the second episode of BBCAmerica's Robin Hood...SUCH a good show...), and did the grocery shopping. Oh, and finally figured out how to get my system to burn to a CD. iTunes just wasn't doing it!
Unfortunately, I didn't realize how dire my clothing situation had gotten--I'm out of workout shorts/pants! So, I'm going to take an extra long walk with the dog after work instead of hitting the gym, and then I'm doing laundry tonight! :o
Have a great day! :sunny: For those of you on P1 or not yet drinking alcohol on P2, try having lime-flavored diet soda, or get a wedge of lime in your diet soda at a restaurant. It really makes you feel a part of the Mexican celebration!

I forgot to mention, our puppy died on Saturday morning. I am so sad about it. He died of parvo. He was only 3 months old. I'm still really really sad about it. Leo says that we may not get any more dogs (we'll still breed, but wait for awhile before we do) because it's just too heartbreaking when they get sick like this. My heart is just aching for our puppy. He was so good. I got my cakes done this weekend but I didn't take a picture of one of them because it just didn't come out very nice. It looked horrible, not worth taking a picture. I was very disappointed in myself about it. But I did take a picture of the other one. That one came out ok because it was very simple. Why is it that I exercised last week and didn't eat bad but I can't seem to move the scale. I'm getting frustrated with it. I don't know if the workout video I'm doing is actually doing any good. I use the turbo jam lower body workout. It's TOM but still. I'm getting so frustrated with it.
05-05-2008, 10:11 AM
Good morning all. I'm just jumping in to say hi and then off I go.. I'll be in later on to catch up on the personals :)

Happy Cinco De Mayo, my chickies!!!
Cottage - Your lasagna sounds wonderful, I might have to give that a try some Sunday dinner.
Nessa - Enjoy your Monday. I love days off like that, I always feel so accomplished at the end of the day.
Cat - You have such the life!!! What's the book that you're working on? Is a a photo study? Would love to here more.
Nat's Mom - Good luck at the scale today!!! I hope the number is a happy one.
tk - Glad to hear that things are better at home. I hope the week goes well for you. That's so sad about your puppy. Hang in there. This week will be good!!!!
Ruth - MORNIN'!!!!
Mandyleigh - I sometimes go into work early for that exact reason. It's amazing what I can accomplish when no one's there to bother me. Enjoy your drink tonight!
Schmoodle - Good for you that you're clothes are falling off! Enjoy going out and getting new stuff! You've earned it!
Laurie - Hope you're feeling better by now. Vertigo is not a fun symptom. If it continues, be sure to get yourself checked out.
Princess - HI!
Me - So my scrapping party was a success yesterday. I'm ending up with over $120 in free stuff!!!! SO FUN! I ended up making Schmoodle's Salmon Pate' (SO GOOD!!!) w/ crackers, mini crustless quiches w/ canadian bacon, mushrooms, & shallots, Veggies w/ hummus & light cheese spread, and Strawberries w/ fruit dip (ff cool whip & sf lemon yogurt). All of the food went over really well. This week is staff appreciation week at school/work. We're doing stuff all week long to let the staff at the school know that they are appreciated. Today they're getting flavored creamers and good tea and these wonderful coffee cakes. I've already told myself to steer clear, and I've got a yummy breakfast for me (breakfast turkey stack). I'm going to be good! Tonight I think I"m going to do some laundry. So that's it for now, have a good Monday, ladies!

Heather...it's not a book I'm working on. One of my design clients is a publisher and they are publishing a book with a "bayou theme" and are looking for a shot for the cover. They used a lot of my pics on their site and told me to submit some for this new book cover.
05-05-2008, 10:51 AM
Just a quick fly-by for me.
Had DD's Communion Party yesterday - lots of frenzied activity, party food and little sleep. I didn't get my jog in yesterday as I was just TOO TIRED and achey after all the cleaning and scrubbing on Saturday. Today didn't get my early jog in, but might get out for a walk with my kids later. Hope to, at least. Still a lot of clean-up to do after the party.
Talk to y'all later.
05-05-2008, 10:54 AM
I'm so sorry about the puppy, TK. :( Was he too young for the parvo shot? Do your other dogs have their parvo vaccines up to date? What an awful thing to happen. As for the weight, it's TOM, hon. If you're getting cramps and don't usually suffer them, it would make sense if you gained a lot of water, too. Give it a week. I know it's frustrating, though.
Sounds like you're doing a great job, Heather! I envy you all the free scrapping stuff! Your party food sounds fantastic!

Good morning Chickies, another busy day at work
Cat loved the pictures, that was an adventure you had for sure!!
Everyone have a great day.
05-05-2008, 11:17 AM
tk - sorry about the cramps but yay for dh's meds. I hope they make your life (and his!) a little easier. Also, sorry to hear about the puppy. What is parvo?
Cat - What an adventure!
Schmoo - nothing is better than a pair of pants that at one time fit well, and now are too big ;)
DH canceled class today, but ended up having to go in to give a makeup exam. Oh well...gives me some time to get my home blessing done.
I want to do that hike again today, it was really fun and it's drier today. Maybe I can talk DH into a picnic afterwards. today is library day as well as errand day. I need to go to Men's Warehouse to pick up a sportcoat and a pair of pants that DH had tailored.
05-05-2008, 11:29 AM
Hey everyone! Another fly-by for me. P1 is going well - starting it on Saturday was DEFINITELY better than starting on Monday. I was in a bit of a funk yesterday but managed to come out with my only cheat being 2 extra SF Fudgesicles. Not too bad.
Back at work today with snacks packed...boss man is out so I'm dealing with the brunt of the appraisal animosity. Not fun, but the day has to end sometime!!
05-05-2008, 11:45 AM
I just thought I'd pop back in and report about the scale...I was down 6 pounds this week -- yay! That was my first week of Phase 1 -- I am so excited. I know it's a lot of water, but hey, it is still motivating and exciting. And the lowest number I've seen in about a year! I am down 35 pounds since my delivery weight, seven weeks ago -- woo hoo!
05-05-2008, 12:11 PM
beachgal-we were up to date on his shots but still managed to get it. We were told to give the shots every 4 weeks but the vet that I took him to said that it needs to be every 3 weeks, not 4. My other two dogs are 1 year old and 3 years old. He said that they are pretty much clear because they are older dogs. They only had one set of shots because that's what we were told. Then this vet told us that they are supposed to get it every 3 weeks till they are about 5 months old. Well, we didn't know that. The vet said that he was doing really good on friday and ready to go home saturday (he was in the hospital for the treatment for parvo) and when he came in on saturday the puppy was dead. He said that the disease probably got to his heart and basically died of a heart attack.
zeffry-parvo is a really bad virus that dogs get and it can be fatal. Not all dogs die from it, some do and some don't. It's a virus so really there's no antibiotics that can get rid of it, it's up to the dog to heal or not. Unfortunetely chesty didn't make it.
05-05-2008, 12:27 PM
Cat - Just got through your pictures. You're quite the artist. Thank you for sharing! That's so neat that one of them might be used for a book cover. You should be pleased with yourself.
05-05-2008, 02:10 PM
Good afternoon chicks! It's been a busy Monday for me. Had to go to a company lunch and still trying toget lots done as vacation will be here soon.
TK sorry about the furbaby

Hope you all are having a great day!
05-05-2008, 02:49 PM
a real quickie chicks, just want to pop in and say hello. Things have been crazy here since friday as we have flooded. I have a ton of pics I will post later. I had about a foot of water in my basement. ( not finshed) we have three pumps going to keep the water out. And on top of it all I am so sick with this awful cold. I have not slept well for 4 nights. Well I got to dash as I have a meeting to go to tonight, I will try to post more often this week.
05-05-2008, 02:52 PM
L/c - Hang in there! Sending prayers your way.

Hi everyone! I had a busy weekend. Went to a 2 year old's birthday party where my gift of a minnie mouse doll was a HUGE hit! And learned Sunday that stress and not planning ahead for meals is a BAD idea. Friday at work I was so stressed out that I realized that stress is what makes me eat. I was ravenous on Friday... I was chewing gum like a chain smoker. But I recognized that that was what was happening to me- I wasn't hungry, I was just stressed. That's a huge gain. Sunday, I didn't plan my food very well, and while I did pretty good staying on plan, I didn't feel very satisfied. Today's better. Gonna go for my lunch walk, and enjoy the So Cal weather.
05-05-2008, 04:58 PM
I just went out to the garden to find that my hibiscus plants have aphids. :(
I don't want to use pesticides on them, and read that Murphy's Oil Soap or regular unscented dish soap diluted in water would help. I also thought of spraying them with Basic-H from Shaklee. It helped a pest problem with my tomatoes last year.
I did use a magnifying glass to show the bugs to Calvin though. He thought they were very interesting and really wanted to touch the buds. :)
05-05-2008, 07:07 PM
My nursery sells ladybugs that you release on the plants that have aphids. They love to eat them.
05-05-2008, 09:03 PM
Barb - they won't just fly away? After thoroughly inspecting all the plants, it seems like it's a select few that have them....the ones that I had at my SIL's house over the winter and I'm pretty sure she didn't bathe them.
