Who'd a thought I'd ever have a craving for an apple? I have absolutely no desire for cakes, cookies or candies.....but an apple with peanutbutter? Hold me back!

Seriously, I know that I can make an apple work in my low carb WOE, especially with the sugarfree peanutbutter that I bought. It's just a matter of choices and using my carbs wisely. No flaming from the non-low-carb people, ok? :)

I've discovered lately the combination of sliced pieces of apples with cheese (especially cheddar). Its incredibly good and very filling!

Kris: I know how you feel. I'm not a fan of sweets so that does not bother me BUT my daughter's apple juice in that fridge makes my mouth water everytime I look at it. I'm thinking about it now and it is making my mouth water. Maybe you should pick up a nice crisp fuji apple and quarter it and slice the quarters in to really thing slices. Have a few as a special treat. I bet you can work with it so you don't mess things up.

I had this exact same craving when I first started this WOE. Apples and peanut butter. It goes away (at least it did for me), but there are lower carb options than actually eating apples.

First, people are going to tell you not to feed a craving. However, if this is something that's really a deal breaker for this way of eating, then you might want to consider something like jicama as a substitute (if you can find it). If you cut jicama up and sprinkle Splenda or stevia on it, it's supposed to be pretty close to an apple.

I drink a really nice apple and cinnamon herb tea once in a while. It's pretty nice, around 1 carb a cup, and I really don't miss apples so much any more.

thanks for the support everyone. Yeah.....it's not like a huge craving or anything - just that the pink lady apples are in season here and in making a tea cake for Mr. W, they just smelled so yummy. I totally know that I can make them work with my OWL plan - or select other options. I think more than anything I found it a bit humorous.....with so many people craving pizza, sweets or hamb & fries I was interested in a simple little apple. :) It amazes me how our taste buds change when we give them a chance!

Do they make sugar free (low carb of course) apple juice?

I used to buy DaVinci Syrups (SF) they were heavenly.... they don't have SF Apple (only regular) but they do have this ... http://www.davincigourmet.com/products/product_details/?productID=154

YES, YES, YES. I was craving cold crispy gala apples. And I was delighted that it was THAT that I craved.
Last night I had a small amount of really sweet rasberries-- first fruit in 2 or 3 weeks.
Good luck on your plan!

Seconding the apple tea option - I'm finding that fruit teas are a yummy alternative to juice/soft drinks.

Celestial Seasonings makes a wonderful Cinnamon Apple Spice tea & a delicious True Blueberry tea...both decaf. They make lots of flavors, you can check them out here: http://www.celestialseasonings.com/

I may be a little late here but I wanted to add my $.02.

I ultimately you have to decide if you think you will be able to handle adding fruit to your diet. Do you think you can control yourself? I know sometime I am just craving foods but it is something else that I really need, like more fats or veggies in my diet.

I like the fruity teas, too. The smells are a great way to alleviate some of the cravings.

Also, I think in season is definitely the best choice. I am a big advocate of in season eating. Actually, I have found over the past few years that when I eat fruit that was picked very green and imported, the fruit still has a green/unripened taste to me. But I know I'm weird.

Whenever I want something really sweet I get some water and those crystal light packets and they have practically nothing in them but I swear they are sweet and they taste like they have sugar. There awesome

Unfortunately, they do have something in them...aspertame...an artificial sweetener Dr. Atkins advised to be avoided. Also, most people aren't aware the Crystal Light iced tea's contain corn syrup solids...as well as caffeine.

Weird, ever since I started Atkins I've been craving fruit, especially apples! Not ice cream, cookies, cake, but fruit. It goes away eventually, especially when I have some flavored seltzer water.

The only thing that has really given me 'cravings' has been fruit. I drink unsweetened apple tea (it's some japanese brand, has 0 carbs according to the nutrinfo) when I want an apple.

Oh wow... an apple a day is no more :( It's alright though, I'll be looking into the tea ahead of time, too!
