LA Weight Loss - New to LAWL - lots of questions

Hi Everyone!
I started LAWL 2 weeks ago today and have lost 5 lbs. When I went in this morning to WI, I was only down .2 lbs. I'm wondering if anyone out there has "modified" their plan at all or are you all following it to the letter? Before I started the plan, I was drinking about 6 regular cokes a day. I haven't had one since the day I started, and I thought that alone would be a significant factor in how much I lost each week. I am having a REALLY hard time eating everything on plan (2.5 P, 3V, 2F, 3S, 2D, 2F and 2 LA lites). And I'm really curious about the LA lites. After looking at their ingredients and calories, they end up equally about 3 cokes a day. How can they be good for you at 180 calories a pop? Can I cut those out to see better results? I hate to cut back on the other stuff because they seem more like "essentials". Any advice or suggestions?
Thanks!
Kelly

Hi Kelly,
I was encountering a similar situation but I would advise you to stick with it and see what happens with your weight loss after a week or two more. Check out my posting under the heading of "L.A. Express???" in the LA Weight Loss category.
There's a lot of protein in the LA Lite bars that are important to your program but I actually use Luna bars instead because they taste better and are much cheaper.
You could also maybe try doing a take off since you've been on the program for two weeks. Have you been exercising? And are your starches about 100 calories each? They should be less than 100 calories, which isn't always easy but that's what I hear.
Let me know. I'm very curious to hear other people's stories as well since I'm having a less consistent weight loss on this numbered plan on the coloured plan that I was on three years ago.

When you start out you lose alot of water weight so you will see a big drop but after that your body is trying to resist change. Your body is probably going into shock and holding on to everything you eat because it doesnt know whats going on. Stick with it and once your body becomes more comfortable with the change you will start losing. Also watch what you are eating, just because its on plan doesnt mean it works with your body. Are you eating all the higher calorie things on the plan like PB, eggs, bananas, steak, pork all the time? You have to balance things out so that you are not taking in all the higher calorie things in the same day. When i 1st started the 1st time i was having PB and bananas and frozen foods in the same day and that didnt work. I totally cut out peanut butter and bananas and i limited the frozen foods and i started losing again. I also couldnt have V8 juices, it just didnt work with my body so you have to pay attention to those things also. I know its supposed to be "free to live" but you still need to watch what you are eating even tho its on plan.
As far as the lites, it does give alot of protein and for me it was my chocolate fix. I usually sat down in my down time and enjoyed my lite because it was such a treat. This time around i'm not doing lites and i'm losing still but you would need to add more food to your plan if you eliminate the lites.
Try your very best to get all your food in. I know its hard but you need to manage it better and you will be able to get everything in. Try combining alot of it when you can so you are able to get everything in.
you cant look at it like 1 bar is 3 cokes because coke has no nutritional value and it comes down to eating better. We can look at alot of foods that way but in the end we need to give our bodies the right fuel if we want our bodies to work better & longer.
Hang in there.

In the past couple of months I have made some very slight modifications to the plan so it fits my lifestyle and I can do this long term. I’d said about 90% of the stuff I eat is exactly on plan. Weighed out & measured.
I use the “consume infrequently” stuff more than it states in the book. But I’ve made other modifications that I think balance things out, like I never add salt to my food anymore.
I am very conscious of the calories. I have had more people than I can count tell me that it is just simple math: you have to burn more than you consume. Like I might choose a starch type snack that isn’t listed in the book, but I make sure it’s between 80-100 calories, as each serving of starch should be. That said I NEVER go over on my exchanges or portion sizes. I might just choose something a little different from what is listed in the book so I don’t get bored or feel deprived.
I wouldn’t cut calories from the Lites out. You need those calories. Eating less than you need can send your body into starvation mode and cause you to plateau. I don’t eat Lites. Tell your COD you don’t want to and they can give you plan w/out Lites. It gives you more food exchanges instead of the Lites. You want to make sure you are getting the proper nutrition for your calories.
That said, I do think it is extremely important that you follow the plan to the letter for the 1st month. It really gets your metabolism going and the “detox” makes you feel wonderful. Plus, when you get all the options your 5th week, it feels like heaven.

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for all of your thoughts. I guess I wouldn't have been so bothered by the .2 loss, if my counselor hadn't been. I met with her last night and she changed one of my LA bars each day to an LA drink to cut out a few calories, but to still get the nutritional value that's needed. I haven't been exercising, as they told me 2 pounds a week was doable without the exercise and my starches are all under 100 calories. Since I payed for the plan with the lights (to get the 50% refund I was told you have to buy the lights), how do I switch to the plan without the lites? Will they refund my money? I'm glad to hear that the plan really does work, I guess it will just take a little longer than I thought. Thanks again for your help! Have a blessed day!

Kelly,
Don't let the counselor get you down about a .2 loss... I went through the same thing, they would try to rationalize why I was not down as much as they thought I should be from 2 days prior, but when I look at it from a week standpoint I was always down 2lbs over a weeks timeframe... In fact they still try to scrutinize my diary if I have a small loss from Monday to Wednesday or Wed to Fri, or Fri to Mon :dizzy: ... but the bottom line is this you have lost 5lbs in 2 weeks, if you lose 1 pound this week you are on target for 6lbs in 3 weeks! That's Awesome!
I am in week 13 and have lost 29lbs and on Monday my counselor was not thrilled that I had just "maintained" my weightloss from Friday... On Wednesday I was down 1.4lbs from Monday... it's a tricky thing to keep track of. I just weigh myself at home every morning and go by that scale, as long as theirs goes down also (even .2) I'm happy;)

well think about how long it took you to put the weight on and if you lose it faster than that you are doing great.
Not sure if you will be able to get the $ back on the lites. Maybe you can try to tell them that its really bothering your stomach and you think you have a soy allergy and hopefully that works. Its a pain trying to get $ back from them.
The shake they gave you is it the slimdown? I believe the slimfast optima is the same as the slimdown (correct me if i'm wrong someone) and you can purchase those instead if they are making you buy the slimdowns separately. Try not to get caught up buying eveything they suggest or you would go broke, unless of course you can afford it. I'm doing the plan without any of their things and still losing.
I was starting to stall so i started exercising this week and hopefully the lbs will keep dropping. You will lose without exercising but you will lose faster if you do. Also when i did the plan the 1st time i stalled and the only thing that got my weight moving down again was exercise so at some point you should prepare youself for some exercise. It will also help you to get leaner so it wont hurt.
