Default How do you find a sponsor?

Hi All,

Thanks for this great message board. I'm new to OA, yet I've been able to find abstinence pretty quickly (by the grace of God!). But I know that this won't last unless I start working the steps and working with a sponsor.

What is the best way to find a sponsor? Just start asking people? I go to about three meetings a week (I've only been going for about a week so far).

Thanks for any help.

Welcome.

Congradulations on your meeting attendance! I was told it takes at least three for a good recovery. Are these on line meetings or face to face meetings?

Either way just listen to people when they speak and find someone that has what you want and ask them to be your sponsor. Remember sponsors are human and that asking someone to be your sponsor doesn't mean it's a forever thing, this is a program of one day at a time.

Keep posting would love to keep up with your recovery.

Pat,

Thanks for the great advice. These are all face-to-face meetings. I'll definitely take your advice and listen for someone who "has what I want."

Hi Tony,
I know at our meeting all Sponsors are asked to identify themselves, time in program and level of recovery. They are also asked to say if they are available for Sponsoring.
Ask your group leader about this and stay after the meeting and meet one or two.
good luck,
Magic Flute
