How is your mom doing? I've been thinking of y'all. :grouphug:

Me, too! Can we have an update?

AWWWW! Thank you so much for thinking about us  I Love you guys so much :goodvibes:

We had the appt. with the internist who did the biopsy yesterday. He told us that although the biopsy and bone scan were negative (yay!) that he is still pretty sure it is cancer. He explained a bit about the ways lung cancer differs from cryptococcus when looking at a CT scan.

He also explained that when he was doing her biopsy on April 1st, he managed to get 4 samples from surrounding tissues...but then she started to bleed quite a bit, and her blood oxygen got a little low, so he had to stop.

He said that he felt that the tumor might be just on the other side of the bronchial tube he was in, because the area he was sampling from looked like there was something else underneath, changing it's shape.

SO - the next step, is for her to have another biopsy, this time a Wang Needle biopsy. He will go to that same area, and then use the needle to punch through that tube and get a sample of what he believes is the tumor.
Hopefully, then we will have a proper diagnosis/staging. And then finally we'll know what kind etc.. and can see an Onc. and learn about treatment options.
The next biopsy will be this coming Tuesday (29th)

Man, all this waiting can be so frustrating. I just keep worrying that all this time waiting..it's in there...growing :(

I'm trying VERY hard to limit that kind of thinking as MUCH as possible. I really am focusing on all the positive most of the time. We're having lots of fun together, and enjoying every bit of family time we get!

I was thinking just the other day. You know how Moms can be SO annoying and frustrating, right? It was absolutely amazing how the day we got that CT report, almost ALL of those little annoyances have miraculously disappeared! Of course, I'm very well aware that it's my perception that's changed...she still does all the stuff that bugged me before, it just doesn't bug me anymore :)

Sometimes I really wish I could go back to being annoyed.

It means SO very much to me, that you are thinking of us. It really makes me stronger.

:grouphug: Still keeping you in my thoughts.

Thanks for the update! I can't wait for you to have some answers. The waiting game sucks big time! I will keep you guys in my thoughts! You are being so strong through this, and it's totally what your mom needs. Oh.. by the way, I see those annoying things coming back in your future.. be careful what you wish for :-P

Oh Linda... it will I am sure! My mom gave us a scare last year.. here she had been having chest pains for MONTHS! and never told anyone, she finally went to the dr, without telling any of us, and the next day she was having angioplasty (sp?). She had some majorly clogged arteries... grrrr the things our parents put us through, and they have the nerve to tell us we are "pains in the butts". She has since regained her annoying-ness.

Thanks my loves :)

I am home now, and SOOOO tired! Nothing like a few hours in a hospital worrying to suck the energy out of a person!

Everything went well. The doctor says he got what he wanted, so now we just wait for the results...again! Hopefully it will be much shorter than last time!

I stayed with Mom at her place until I had to go get the kids, and my sister will be spending the night, just to make sure she's A-OK :)

I'm POOPED, so I'm going to take a nap!

04-30-2008, 10:12 AM

Thanks so much , my dear friends!

I posted on my blog a bit more about a new...and extremely frustrating chain of events this week, and some really good stuff too :)
It'll be better to read there anyway, because it called for more colourful language than I tend to use here!

I don't have time to put it here, but if you are interested, the link to my blog is in my left hand side-bar thingy ;)

I too am dealing with the waiting with my Mom although some of our questions have already been answered. Now, we just want her to get well and come home. We miss her so. And, yes, when she was stable for awhile she was her usual self. For example, my sister asked her how she felt and my Mom said (without a beat) "With my hands, how do you think I feel?"

She had her cancer surgery in mid January, she has had two strokes and two heart attacks, back and forth in the ICU, two days in a nursing home in a city 90 miles away only to be brought back the other night with pneumonia. Oh, did I tell you she had a second slower growing cancer and she is diabetic??? She is 73!

Ironically, when she was being treated the other day in the emergency room, she kept telling the doctors she needed to go to work! You think! She worked up to one day before all of this happened.

It has been hard, as I am sure it has been for you, but my sister, Dad and I have grown closer while Mom is fighting for her life. I just prayed for you and her. May God keep you and your family in His protective and loving care.

God bless, sweetie:hug:
