100 lb. Club - How long have you been here?

View Full Version : How long have you been here?

04-20-2008, 10:20 PM
That other post about how so many people come and go, and so few stick with it and lose the weight, got me to thinking. I have noticed a lot of people who only hang around for a week or two and then disappear. But I am sure there are lots of us who are in this for the long haul.

So how long have you been posting here?

I came here in August 2007, so that makes it about 8 months.

04-20-2008, 10:28 PM
Well . . . I was around for a couple of months back in 2001. Never posted, but did do a lot of reading in that time. Latest adventure began January 2006.

04-20-2008, 10:28 PM
I've been making better eating choices since April 2007.
I joined in October 2007, but I think it was in December 2007 that I rediscovered the site and became more actively involved with it. That's 4 months.

04-20-2008, 10:35 PM

I first came here in January of 2007. I was on vacation for 6 weeks, and haven't been here much lately because we are getting our campground ready for summer. I'm not here on a daily basis but I still check in on everyone.

04-20-2008, 10:59 PM
A looong time! I definitely consider myself an "oldie".
I've been here though thick and thin, sometimes more than others, but always here. I've been here through making it halfway to my goal, gaining it ALL back plus 23 friends, and I'm still here and tackling it again!!

The 100 pound club has been a MAJOR part of my life since (have to post to see my join date...) April 2005, the 19th, I believe!

I HIGHLY suggest NOT leaving here if/when you lose momentum. There are people here (you know who you are!) whom I love dearly, and have become very true friends. :)

Stick around! There's nowhere better!

04-20-2008, 11:27 PM
I read here for some months before joining. I joined about six weeks ago, because I thought having a place to be publicly accountable, even if no one knew me, would help. And it did!

04-20-2008, 11:33 PM
I'm a newb, been visiting the site since about October last year but only recently joined so that I could really be part of the community. So glad I did, its been great :)

04-20-2008, 11:44 PM
I've been here since November 2006 and I've never left. I've not had stellar losses that impress everyone, but I've managed to maintain what I've lost and lose a few more pounds every once in a while. I credit my friends here on the 100lb club and on the Biggest Loser Challenges for keeping me motivated to keep trying. I've seen a lot of people come and go,which makes me very sad. I've also seen several of those people come back, which makes me very happy! And, I love having new friends come join in. The support I've found here is much better than any support group/plan that I've paid big money for in the past.

04-20-2008, 11:55 PM
I was reading the WW Canada online forum for a couple months and wanted to be able to post but didnt want to shell out the $$$ So in August 07 I started googling 'free weight loss forum' and ended up at 3fc. Been around ever since.

04-21-2008, 02:20 AM
Sept 2006 - Although my latest weight loss as seen on my ticker is from May 2007 until today... nearly a year.

I see a lot come and go but I see a lot of the same faces too.

04-21-2008, 03:16 AM
I only just discovered 3FF at the beginning of this month. I've never really felt comfortable with forums and things like that but this place was so open and inviting that I immediately joined and have been checking in every day. It's already been a great help.

04-21-2008, 03:36 AM
I've only been here since March but I plan on staying around!!

04-21-2008, 06:51 AM
I was here back in 2001 or so I believe... I even met a girl from NYC who came over to the Netherlands (she was very cool, and I ended up making friends with her friend here - after all we lived in the same town!!).

I dropped out of sight for a while, couldn't remember my log-in details and so I signed up... 2 years ago?... as velveteen. I have been off and on for the last year and decided very recently that this is where I want to be, where I want to make friends, where I want to give and get support and where I will be when I reach my goal and even further onto maintenance...!

I had been a member of DWLZ while I was on WW from 1999-2001 but I never really found my place there. Since I don't go to meetings, I really need the online support and I need to feel like I "belong". Maybe that sounds silly, but it's just what works for me. It took a little while to find my place here too, but I'm not afraid anymore to just jump in and add my thoughts, opinions or support all around the board :)

04-21-2008, 07:04 AM
August 1999 - since the last century! I actually think I was here before that but we didn't start showing dates joined on profiles until then.

04-21-2008, 07:49 AM
Its been just over a year for me - though I did take a long break - which was not a good idea! I know that I need to stick around through the good & bad times.

It's a good give & take - just like any other healthy relationship. When I'm feeling good, I can be motivational to others. And when I'm down, there are people to help me up!!

04-21-2008, 08:40 AM
Me too, Ruth! I've been a member for more than ten years, to the best of my recollection. I think I first joined back in 1997 (when I used Prodigy to access the Internet). I know I re-registered at least twice before the final 1999 registration that shows under our names. Back then, there weren't a lot of us, so almost everyone went by their first names -- hence my imaginative user name of "Meg".

I credit my daily visits to the site for the past ten years for my success at weight loss and maintenance, no doubt about it. It really does pays off to stick around, through good times and bad. :D

04-21-2008, 08:50 AM
Meg, I think I may have actually been "renee" or "renee_nl" back in the day as well! I just couldn't remember when I rejoined!

04-21-2008, 08:57 AM
I've been a member here a year. I don't post often but the community here is very inspiring and is partly responsible for keeping me accountable and attaining my goal.

04-21-2008, 09:03 AM
Meg, I think I may have actually been "renee" or "renee_nl" back in the day as well! I just couldn't remember when I rejoined!

Oooh, Renee, I think I just found you using my magical mod powers! :wizard: It looks like you joined as "Renee" on October 3, 1999, and last posted with that account on March 4, 2001. Does that sound like you?

04-21-2008, 09:09 AM
that has to be me! It fits the timeline anyway!

04-21-2008, 09:12 AM
I post time-to-time, when I find the time! I keep very busy between 2 jobs, and working out. I do read this board all the time, and when I see a topic (like this one) that interests me, I'll respond.

I first learned of 3FC when I was googling excess skin due to weight loss, and I immediately bookmarked the maintainers forum.

Been here for almost a year now (May 2007)

04-21-2008, 09:21 AM
I have only been here since Feb 2008, but I plan on sticking around for a long time! :)

04-21-2008, 09:28 AM
I had perused the site a couple years ago, but kind of forgot about it. Last summer I was trying to remember what it was and it popped up on google for me.
I joined in August of last year, and lurked for a while before feeling like I found my specific forum home. I used to post on another 100+ BB for a weight loss program, but it was so negative that it turned me off. 3FC has been so great!

04-21-2008, 09:39 AM
I've been here since July 2005. I stopped coming around for about a year I guess. That was a big mistake. I love this place and the people here!

04-21-2008, 09:49 AM
another oldie here.. yikes.. 2001!

04-21-2008, 10:43 AM
I'm pretty much a newbie. I have been here.. well it will be a month on Thursday. I plan on sticking around for a good long while. I want to be one of the ones here who have reached their goals and stick around keeping the morale up! I am here every single day, some days I don't have time to post much (like on the weekends), but I still try to find a second to check in. I love this place!!!

04-21-2008, 11:04 AM
I joined Dec 2006, and just read things & posted a few times. I thought just by joining a weight-loss board I'd lose weight LOL Not so much! Just like every diet plan I paid for I figured paying the money should be enough ;) I started changing things slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwly and really noticed a big shift around June 2007. It'll be a year this year, and already I'm down 60 pounds. I've maintained it for about 2 months, so it's time to get losing again :D

I know this board has helped tremendously - for the days you feel it is pointless, the days you're feeling invincible and read for a bit and come back to earth!, and even just to 'remind' myself I'm doing this -- it's a habit now to check 3FC every day and gets me psyched for the day ahead!

04-21-2008, 11:15 AM
I found this site about a month ago after reading a tip in a magazine about how to prevent overeating. It was from Suzanne, one of the founders of 3fc's. I quickly cut it out and put it on my fridge. I checked out the website that same day and have loved it ever since. Many lovely, helpful people here!

04-21-2008, 12:15 PM
I joined in Jan. 2001. I've come and gone and always returned. :) I have found this to be the best place for support for me. Whenever I'm doing great, y'all are great cheerleaders for me and when I'm not so great, y'all always have encouraging words and advice to help me through the rough spots.

04-21-2008, 12:40 PM
<peeking at her avatar> Looks like Feb 2005...over three years! And I've lost and gained the same 20 lbs for all that time! How depressing....

04-21-2008, 12:48 PM
hmmm... i think October 06. I come and go. When I start getting really busy at work...like this time of year for example....I don't have time for lurking or posting. I'm just misbehaving today (I've got a ton of work to do and I'm not accomplishing anything):D
I've made some strides, had some setbacks, made some more strides. It's an on going battle...if you don't see me for a while at a time it just means I'm in a busy season. I haven't given up and I'll always be back.
People here are too cool to stay away for too long!

04-21-2008, 01:29 PM
My thing says Jan 2003 but this was the second user I created. I think I had lurked around/posted occasionally since 2001.

04-21-2008, 03:51 PM
I joined on June 30, 2007... so almost 10 months now. I had seen the website maybe a year or more prior to my join date but I just wasn't ready mentally so I didn't read any of the articles or forums... hhhmmm, this is such a great place, I'm glad I found it again when the time was right for me. :)

04-21-2008, 03:59 PM
I have been here since Jan. 2008. Not that long...but I plan on staying for a long time! :D

04-21-2008, 04:08 PM
joined may 07 but lurked before. began the journey jan 1st 07

04-21-2008, 04:22 PM
i joined on january 2008:D, but i'm planning on sticking around for a long time;)!

04-22-2008, 01:23 AM
I first started in Oct '99, posting with the username rapunzelsglory, I think.
I left when Bootcamp Buddies became its own forum.
I'm back because I didn't realize what a good thing I left!

04-22-2008, 03:13 AM

Very depressing if you think about it (considering how little I've accomplished WL wise in 3 years, 1 month, and 7 days) so I won't think about it. :snooty:

04-22-2008, 02:19 PM
October 2000. That's when my son was born. I've never done really well, but I stay because I refuse to give up.

04-22-2008, 02:27 PM
I found this place when I started South Beach and was googling for recipes. My one year anniversary is coming soon. I plan to be around for a long time. I was never able to lose the weight before I started posting here, coincidence? I think not!

04-22-2008, 03:28 PM
I've only been here since Feb. I am in this for the long haul though! I need all the encouragement I can get!

04-22-2008, 03:34 PM
started reading and making better choices in Sept 2007, I joined in Oct 2007

04-22-2008, 03:48 PM
been here a day, or two maybe, not sure but I'm starting properly today.
I just really want one of those things everyone has at the bottom with the line saying how much you've lost and how far you have to go. Their well good :D
Watching them move along

04-22-2008, 10:05 PM
I lurked around here starting in November of 2006 when I happened upon the site looking for information for a meal delivery program I was planning on starting. The meal delivery plan didn't last, but the weight loss bug did. January 21, 2007 I started calorie counting, signed up for the forums here, and I haven't left since. I don't post all that often, but I read all the time!

04-22-2008, 10:25 PM
I joined in March 2008. I plan on staying for the long haul. I don't have a choice...I have got to get this weight off this time!!!

04-22-2008, 10:59 PM
A friend in my 3-D world told me about this site back in 2001. I remember getting on it, creating my login and looking around a bit. I started losing weight in 2005, and had forgotten all about this place until early 2006. All of a sudden I remembered either 2fatchicks (NOT-it was a porn site at the time!) or 3fatchicks. I found it and haven't looked back.

04-22-2008, 11:25 PM
All of a sudden I remembered either 2fatchicks (NOT-it was a porn site at the time!)

Haha! I've been on here since... January 07. Has it really been that long? I'd actually already lost a lot of my weight by then, wish I'd found it sooner!

04-22-2008, 11:41 PM
I started in March of this year, but kind of "fell off" the wagon for a bit. I am back and 5 pounds lighter. Ready to go!

04-23-2008, 12:52 AM
I joined in August of 2007, but actually started this journey in October.

Though I post sporadically, according to my schedule, I find so much wisdom in reading posts.

04-23-2008, 02:31 AM
I've been here since 2002, I wanted to take a year to try & lose weight for my sister's wedding. I lost a fair amount before her wedding. I lost 50# overall. Then I fell off the wagon & gained it all back. Then I lost a good 20# in the fall of 2006. Then I gained it all back & then some.

Last summer I was diagnosed with sleep apnea & we just recently have figured out sleep machine + meds = the answer!!! I have lost 5 pounds since reaching my all time high of 350 pounds (go me! :dz: ) earlier this year, and I plan to continue on in this plan. Having energy makes ALL the difference.

I may not always post, but I check in every now & then to see how everyone is doing. I love this place. There is always someone who knows what you are going through.

04-23-2008, 10:17 AM
I'm a newbie! I've been here almost a week... hooked already :)

04-23-2008, 10:36 AM
Halichick, I love your avatar!

04-23-2008, 03:27 PM
How do you count when you "started?" Just went back and looked at my join date and it says 1999. Clearly I've spent a lot of time "working up to it" because I still feel like I'm at the stage where I'm "starting over." :o It's reached the point where coming up the stairs has me "huffin and puffin" and it's a health thing. I've been in and out of the forums and started posting and/or reading more actively a couple weeks ago so I don't know how to count it. This is my first post in this thread. Would this be a good forum to find pointers on how to get that motivation to start? I remember starting before - all full of enthusiasm and that "honeymoon" stage that WW likes to talk about (as in what to do when it wears off). But I don't have that get-started energy and I really need to know how to find it!! :?:

04-24-2008, 08:44 PM
:carrot: :carrot: I win! I win! :carrot: :carrot:

Or, maybe not! :yikes:

....Actually, Ruth and Meg...and at least one other person have been around as long as I have!

I have been here for about a decade. Pathetic, really, as I STILL need to lose weight...

I left to have a baby (she is not a baby anymore! :o ), finish my degree, start a new career...and gain a little more weight (just a little, relatively speaking :o, since 1999). I had actually forgotten about the site until around the first of the year...

So, here I am...going well...

then not...

then doing great!

then not....

But knowing that I will be successful in my quest for a healthy lifestyle! :woohoo:

04-24-2008, 10:27 PM
I read for a few weeks and I joined here last October 2007 - (I think.) I found this site and it was the thread, "One reason you will stay on plan today", that hooked me. When I was struggling with food...that's where I'd go. Then I joined and you all have helped me thru many hurdles and winding roads. This is a wonderful place. :D

Shy Moment
04-24-2008, 10:59 PM
I found this site in May of last year while looking up information for Jenny Craig and another weight loss program. Chatted with a bunch of people and decided on counting calories. The day I found this site was one of the best days of my life. The support and encouragement I have found here couldn't be replaced by money nor banana ice cream :)

04-25-2008, 10:40 AM
I started here around March 29 of this year.

I tried WW, Jenny Craig, etc., none of which worked for me for long, and I and was recently diagnosed as being pre-diabetic - that plus the fact that I can hardly move - I decided to try Atkins so was looking around for a message board and remembered this one. So glad I did.

Atkins was too severe for me so I switched to South Beach, and that seems to be the best program for me so far. I am starting to drop a little weight and other problems I have been having are clearing up.

I have met some really nice people on this board and am so happy to have found it and them.

04-25-2008, 11:35 AM
I created my account almost two years ago now, and for awhile there I posted pretty regularly. Then I hit a year-long plateau, got frustrated, and gave up for a couple months. At the end of 2007 I started trying again in earnest, and since then I've mostly been lurking here. So I guess I'm one of those who came and went, but I'm still working on my weight loss. I'm just working a LOT harder now than I was during that year of no progress.

04-25-2008, 11:51 AM
It is great reading the responses as I try to get myself in gear to start over. I need to plan!

04-25-2008, 04:48 PM
Wow ~ since 2000 for me. I come every day ~ don't get to post as much anymore, but am hooked and just can't stay away. The people here are wonderful ~ the support, shared information ~ always someone who understands. Though in all this time, I haven't accomplished very much (made it 1/2 way to goal that first year then messed up) I will never give up. I remember joking in the beginning that I would probably still be coming here when I had to use a walker to do so :D I love it that much. So thankful to the original 3 Fat Chicks who have made and kept going for us ~ such a wonderful place.

04-25-2008, 07:22 PM
I'm staying OP cuz I had a 6 lb loss this week by eating the foods I love.
