hello everyone,
I have a question and I know it may sound stupid. I have always been bigger than the normal girl my age (23). I don't remember being smaller or fitting into normal clothes. I'm at 223 right now and I'm a size 18 roughly. If I were to get down to maybe 160 which is my goal, what size would that be?? I suck at this stuff and I'm dreaming of smaller sizes in my head. :?:

You cant really say. I have one friend that is a size12 and another a size 8. It depends on the amount of fat v.s muscle. Your height, where you carry most of your weight, if you are top heavy or bottom heavy. One thing is that you will no longer be shopping in the plus sizes

Hi honey

That question is hard to answer. It all depends on your build. Do you have pants that use to fit you when you were a smaller size? That maybe the best indication.

Some women are tiny but still a size 8...my mom for example was a slender and tall women but try as she might she never got out of at size 10 at 140(ish) at 5'8".

Also, I try and not care about the size of the pants but how I look and feel and my energy.

It is definitely very different for everyone, but it seems like we hold our wieght fairly similarly. I'm 5'6", and my heighest weight was 220. I was a size 18-20 at that weight, 20 if i wanted something loose. I'm 163-164 right now, i've been working out a lot so i'm fairly muscular, and i'm wearing a size 8. i've been at this weight before and been a 10/12...so it definitely depends how much of it is muscle. But right now i'm wearing almost all 8s, a couple of 6s at NY&Co, which runs big.

Candy Kisses is right- it totally depends on your shape and frame and where you carry weight. I am almost 5'7 and started about where you were and was a size 18-20. I am just under 145 and am a size 8. Last summer I had a pretty intense running regiment and I was 140-143 and a size 6.

Getting to 160 would be a significant drop and I'm sure you would see a smaller size, though!

160 I'd say a size 10 or 12. Depending really on your bone frame and fat to muscle ratio.

Unfortunately, and although it's not the answer you're looking for... it's true, it's all about proportions, and we can't tell you what size you'd be. :( I, for example, have no butt. I could gain like.. fifty pounds and it would all be in my hips, thighs, arms and face, and my butt would stay flat and stupid. (Yes, I just called my butt "stupid.")
As a result of that, I sometimes fit into smaller sized pants than someone who.. proportionately, is "thinner" than I am, but happens to have a bit of a butt on 'er. Believe me, it's not as ideal a situation as you would think.

However, if you stick to it and start shedding some of those pounds, you'll undoubtedly see a difference! I'm 5'4" and 21, and at about 167 I fit into a size 13/14. So if you're built anything like me, you'll probably be down a good few sizes. ;)

A good guage to use is take your current weight and size - For every 10lbs lost - you would go down a dress size.

Hope that helps.

hello again,
thank you all for iving me some perspective. For years I honestly though Oh well, I'm overweight, guess I'm just stuck this way. or I'm too big to do anything about it now. I can't work out I met an old friend from Jr. High about 3 years ago and he has really changed my mentality. I was so used to hearing "you can't!" that I never heard "You can!"

I was about 240 until I broke up with him and I became sad and didn't really eat. I got down to about 180 and we worked things out. I got a little too comfortable and got back up to 240 again. Now I'm down to the 220 range and I'm really looking forward to what I could potentially look like.

I have never had even a size 12 pant size. It must feel amazing??? I can't wait till it's my turn. Thank you guys for your comments!:carrot:

I have a nice size tushy and for the time being love the new Lane Bryant jeans.

They really are getting better at fitting all sizes and shapes for women....until recently all the plus size stores I went to the pants were soo long (granted maybe because I have little stumps for legs lol I am all body) but Lane has really gotten great at serving all plus sizes and shapes so I would look there for the time being.

Being plus size is soo hard.

I am lucky and gain weight all over so I still have some sort of a figure but the only plus size stores I have are torrid and lane.....with my brothers wedding May 5th I am so not excited about shopping for wedding clothes. And I just can't buy clothes off line. I have tired it before and never have gotten a good fit.

I think I was a 14 at that weight and similar height but my weight is fairly proportial but I also have a large frame

Of course today's 14 is larger so I would venture to guess it's closer to a 10 now-a-days as I am wearing size 14 NOW!

thats crazy! but i do agree i love lane bryant pants! they have 3 different colors that determine your body shape. awesome for me cause i have no butt (really prolly the only mixed girl without one) but most pants are all saggy in the butt and those are great. get on the web page. i weigh about the same as you and im in there size 5. if you get one the webpage and put in your measurements (the new-right fit jeans) if you are heavy on the bottom i would try the blue. Good Luck!

Honey, I'm mixed and believe me...you do not want what I'm packing. My thighs are huge and my butt is so big you can put a plate on it. I mean its a nice shape, but I have too much booty

I'm 160 and i were a size 14 if that help any. But i think it depends on your frame and were you hold most of your waight.. Mines in my butt, hips and legs.

I have been up to 160 lbs in high school and was wearing a 16 (but i hid it well and no one believed i was that big). it depends on your frame too. i am now 145 lbs and in a size 8. i'm small frame and most of my problem is the belly area, after having 2 kids. but i have been into a 6 before kids...so if i lose some of my belly fat, i might could get into a 6 again at about 130 lbs like before kids....it all depends on a variety of things.

Ladies!
DKNY has jeans up to size 16 i think that fit really well for those who have the junk in the trunk like myself. I have big hips, butt and thighs and I love DKNY. at 5'8 and 201 i can wear the 14 in the Soho Jeans.

Torrid has nice jeans as well as applebottoms and babyphat plus size.

also if you look online there is an AWESOME jeans brand called PZI jeans made for ppl with a waist to hip ratio that causes that horrible gap and makes yr crack show. all in all they are really good jeans for bottom heavy girls in general. google them i live by these jeans!

hope this helps. :D

Congrats Ideal on losing 101 pounds keep going!

man,
hearing about all these jeans options makes me want to lose weight faster. I have had the DKNY soho jeans, but I feel funny because they are kinda tight looking, maybe once I trim down I'll look okay in them. I am curious about these applebottoms, i can't lie.

i admit, me and my neighbors have been wanting to try the applebottom jeans ;) and we're all a variety of sizes. one is short and had GBS and has lost over 120# so far and is in a 16 now i think (was a 28 i think). anothe neighbor is about my height and is a 14 (but doesnt look it), and i wear an 8 (at least at old navy - my mothership of clothes-land)....i swear by old navy. been wearing their clothes since 1999...and never tried any other brand of jeans....but looking into other options to see if any can fit better than my O.N.

I used to teeter at 135 through high school and college, and I was mostly a size 10. Occasionally a size 8 depending on the store. After gaining 20+ pounds, I started pushing 12. I remember shopping at the Limited in 2000 with a friend who was the same height as me, and she got really excited because Limited was going to start carrying size 0. In my head I was thinking "geez, we're the same height, and she is a size 0 and I am a size 0 with a 1 on the front of it." Body types can be wacky!

It is so hard to tell. My MIL and I both weigh within 10lbs of each other however she is 5'9 and I am 5'2. She holds all her weight in her butt and boobs and I hold all my weight in the middle ( I am defintely what they refer to as an apple). But somehow we still wear the same size pants. Sizing is so confusing anymore especially nw that stretch is found in everything including denim.

yes i love my stretch old navy jeans...they seem to hold their shape better than the regular jeans, not sure how but i love it. i have more booty than some i guess so i cant/dont wear those ultra low rider jeans, they are made for those without much butt and i cant fit into those...so i like the mid rise. enough to cover but not the old high waters style.....

I'm a buttless wonder, but at 217 I was wearing a 13/14 in pants and an XL in shirts, 18lbs down and I'm still wearing a very baggy 13 and the XL shirts still fit well. My sister is about 155 and she's roughly a ten.

You can find Apple Bottom Jeans on Ebay frequently they are designed by the rapper Nelly.
I think they are pretty well cut perhaps slightly on the large side so you might want to try a size smaller than usual.
I remember myself at 160lbs I was a size 12 that was a long time ago though. I have heard clothes are cut larger than they were even 5 years ago so perhaps now at 160 i would be more like a 10.

Seriously. I can wear a size 12 from Gap now, but I have this old pair of 14's from Gap that I bought maybe 5 years ago that are still uncomfortably tight.

Yeah but those are JR sizes (they get the odd #s), totally different than misses or womens. Generally I add 3, so I'm a size 10 misses, a size 13 in JR fit me the same.

Do they have different materials. Pants that are labeled stretch or contain lycra etc tend to fit bigger where as 100% cotton does not stretch and will fit more tightly.

Yeah, I think you're right, the old ones are 100% cotton, and the new ones are a little stretchy.
