Early start for me again today as I woke at four! I think I need to start staying up past ten to get this schedule straightened out. Getting up so early makes me want an afternoon nap and that is just too darn decadent when the weather is so nice. Cold, dark, rainy or snowy days are for naps!
Not much planned today except a possible trip to town. The Syrup Festival is this weekend and there are some odds and sods to be picked up - like 50 pounds of little butter thingies! Pancake mix and sausages are already picked up but the guys forgot the butter. Don't worry - the sausages are frozen for now.
Looks like a lovely clear sunrise and a day in the mid-60s! More of my snow mountains will melt - the patio is still not clear although Hershey is doing her best to eat what's left!
Have a great day! :sunny:

Good morning Ruth :) I'm glad you're getting some of this lovely springy weather. I'm going to plant greens this weekend, and peas.
 Chicks to come. I've got a big pot of coffee on - a nice dark roast organic Columbian. :coffee2:
It's my Friday today because I have a long weekend. I've already got an extra long to do list but may make time for a trip to the ocean. Luna gets her staple out tomorrow and hopefully the vet will agree that dry food now and then is fine and we can leave for a long day away.
The scale is moving again. When I get frustrated enough to complain about it suddenly it starts moving - go figure! One more day at this weight and I get to celebrate no longer being overweight. A very rare thing in my life, at least since I was 7!
Have a good day all
04-17-2008, 05:56 AM
I can't see our sunrise yet, it's still too dark, but it's supposed to be another sunny and warm spring day here too, Ruth. I'm glad those mountains are melting away, soon you'll have an entire green lawn to look at!
Maggie and I enjoyed our lunch up in their treehouse yesterday while watching a hunky Scotsman til our garden plot. I don't think Maggie appreciated the scenery as much as I did, though. He's supposed to come back to finish up this morning, and I plan to take him out a tall glass of iced tea so I can get a second helping of eye candy before he leaves.
My DIL is bringing Amber out this afternoon so she and the girls can play. That will free me up so I can sit on the patio in the sunshine with a magazine. :beach:

Morning Ladies. Feeling kind of crummy this morning. Think I have a bladder "thing" going on. Spent the evening drinking cranberry juice with a heating pad on my tummy...then got a HUGE charlie horse in the middle of the night in my calf. (guess i need a bannana for some potassium!) My husband got me "lite" cranberry juice...10g sugar per serving. ouch. (I just wanted the plain concentrate, but they didn't have any so I drank it anyway..it was so disgustingly sweet) Hope it works, cause I don't want to go to the dr. I had a bladder "lift" when I had my hysterectomy and hoping it isn't "dropping". yuk.
04-17-2008, 06:24 AM
Gentle hugs to Cat. I've been there and it sure isn't fun.
Cottage, so nice that you have garden "decor". Is it warm enough for shirts off - or plaids, as the case may be.
CyndiM, seems like just last week we were crabbing about snow and now you are planting peas! My veggie garden is still too wet but maybe next week.... I'm glad Luna is recovering well.
Glorious sunrise is happening. The loons just did their morning fly over. The ice is now broken up in both lakes. Along the shore there are drifts of ice cubes which will probably melt today. It's quite pretty and sort of tinkles.
04-17-2008, 06:32 AM
Cat, sorry you're not feeling too good today. :( Try eating some yogurt, that helps with bladder infections, too.
Cyndi, congratulations on being under your goal!!!! Enjoy your coffee, I made mine with a touch of cinnamon this morning. :)
Ruth, unfortunately, he wasn't wearing a kilt. But he did strip down to his t-shirt and was wearing a pair of cut-offs. ;)
The sun is fully up now and it's just gorgeous outside! I'm getting ready to tackle that WATP 4 Mile Super Challenge again, instead of going to Curves this morning. I'm feeling energetic, so wish me luck!
04-17-2008, 06:55 AM
Oh, Cottage, you are BAD!! Good plan on the iced tea...guess you couldn't make it a long island iced tea, huh? Put me in mind of that song "the Scotsman" (at least I think that is what it's called...hilarious)
04-17-2008, 07:15 AM
Cyndi, congratulations on being under your goal!!!!
Not under my goal yet, but under the magic BMI number for my height. Still got a little distance to my goal,
Cat - can you get cranberry extract pills at a natural food store near you? I'm not sure if they work as well, used to buy them for my daughter. Hope you feel better very soon.
04-17-2008, 07:24 AM

cottage-bring on the scotsman! yee-haw! what an excellent way to start the day!
cat- oh, i feel for you. i've been there so many times i don't even want to remember. and i've tried it all, cranberry juice (100% "mother juice" super-expensive) and capsules help as well as yoghurt. hope u can stave it off. get better!
and me..like i've mentioned above..am feeling better..no thx to any of the specialists i've seen. it's great to live in a country w/public health care..but..you get what u pay for. and since you have almost unlimited paid sick days (up to 6 weeks)..doctor's tend to take it nice and slow-handing out doctor's notices instead of answers. grumble grumble;)
04-17-2008, 07:27 AM

Good Morning Chicks! Feeling more of myself today after a week of a cranky DH. DD's prom is this weekend so we are busy doing last minute running for it, thank goodness the florist is right next door to work!
Ruth glad you are finally getting some nice weather!
Cyndi I am so ready to do some planting myself!
Cottage oh to have a hottie in my yard, instead I have a neighbor who weighs about 400 and walks around without a shirt and enough plumbers crack to blind you!
Cat get to feeling better!
Nessa sure wish you worked in another branch of goverment, like HUD and you could slap some of my underwriters around!
janda glad to hear you are feeling better.
Here's wishing a great day to all!
04-17-2008, 09:16 AM
Good Morning chicks.... a quickie for me this morning as I have a huge to do list...... Tomorrow night is the pre Halifax show for the girls and then I have to pack this week end, and make meals for dh and 2nd dd who are staying home. I really need a break so I can't wait to go away.
I weighed in at TOPS last night and I am down 2.85 pounds...lol they got a new ditigal scale. So that has me movatied to keep on eating clean. Well I have to dash the dryer is done and anothe load in the mountain of laundry calls.
good morning all. Things are getting better here. The only thing is that Powell is now trying to negotiate everything. I will tell him to do something and he'll say, "can I do it after this?" and that is always after I tell him to do something. And when I'm trying to tell him to do something, it's always a power struggle. I told him last night that that was it. I am the parent and he is my child. He is to do what I say when I say it and there are no negotiations. What I say goes. And Leo came home angry last night (with me) and I have no clue why. He ALWAYS looks for something to get angry about with me. Who knows.
04-17-2008, 09:28 AM
Good morning chicks and happy Thursday!
Yesterday DD1 painted the ceiling in my living room, and today she will paint my walls for me. Just hope the color I picked isn't too dark! But I just told DH that now we really need to replace the couch and chair in there, so he's depressed. While I'm at it, I really need a new desk chair for the office and a nice comfy reading chair in here too. Oh, and a new dresser in my bedroom, and a wardrobe and desk for DS's room... Haven't told him about those yet. Time to shop! See what a little paint will do?
Hi Ruth, Enjoy your beautiful weather. Your sunrise sounds gorgeous!
mmm Cyndi, thanks for the coffee. :coffee2: Oh, fresh peas and salad from the garden, can't wait! Congrats on the weight milestone. Soon I will go from extreme overweight to just ordinary overweight. I am excited, hee.
cottage, you ARE a bad girl! Hey, my garden needs tilling...;) WATP 4 mi super challenge is on my agenda for today too.
Cat, hope you feel better soon. Take it easy today.
Nessa, you didn't change your weight yet! I've got to order my book, need to do it soon so I get the DVD too...
So glad you are feeling perkier today jandaman!
Hi trailgroomer, nice to "meet" you. Have a wonderful hike.
Hi Gonna, glad you are feeling better. Wish I could be on the beach with you!
Stephanie, have a great day and post us some pictures this weekend. I love prom pictures, haven't had a prom girl around here for a couple of years. So fun...
Hi tk, hope you got some sleep last night!
Have a great trip lc, and hooray on the 2.85 lbs! Hey, you have a blog!
04-17-2008, 09:31 AM
tk, with kids who really want control, it sometimes works to give them a choice (but you have to make sure both things are something YOU want them to do) ie:"You can either do your homework now OR you can go put the garbage out..decide which one you want to do first"
"You can either clean up your room OR go set the table for dinner"...you get the point. Then afterwards say something like "I really appreciate you doing that. I don't know how I'd do it all without you" They get to make the choice, then they get to feel good about helping you.
Works great for little kids and husbands too.
04-17-2008, 09:37 AM
Good Morning Chick-a-dees!! Good to see you all up and moving so far.
Ruth - I love little town celebrations like the Syrup Festival. Have a great time, but don't eat too many pancakes!
Cyndi - You are SO CLOSE!! Here's hoping you make it to your goal weight SOON!
Schmoodle - Have fun shopping!
TK - Stay consistent. Consistency will help make every thing clear for your son. Once he knows you won't back down, he'll start following your directions sooner.
Little Chick - Have fun at the show. Good job planning your meals!
Cottage - There's nothing like a Scottsman to brighten anyone's day.
Cat - I know exactly what song you're thinking of....we should give Cottage a yellow Ribbon :) Hope you feel better soon!
Nessa - Have a good Thursday!
Janda - Good to see you feel better. Hope the trend continues.
Stephanie - I know I've haven't been around much, so why are you glad to be close to a florist.....are you getting married???
Busy day for me, I'm taking 40 students to a career day. There will be many more schools there which will make my students that much more excited to be there. I just hope they mind their Ps & Qs. I was glad to see Kristy go home last night on Idol, it had been her turn for a while. I think now it's anybody's game. Cracked pepper steak & Survivor for me tonight. Have a good Thursday!!!!
04-17-2008, 09:42 AM
Cat - I know exactly what song you're thinking of....we should give Cottage a yellow Ribbon :)
"Lad, I don't know where ya bin, but I see ya won first prrrrize!"
04-17-2008, 09:45 AM
femme-yeah, I give him choices like that but that's where his negotiation starts. I'll ask him "well, do you wanna do your homework now or after you feed the dogs?" then he'll say,"I wanna do my homework but can I do it after I.......", it's always like that. A power struggle. That's when I had to put my foot down because I was tired of it.
hc-yeah, I'm sticking to my guns. He needs to know I'm not backing down.
04-17-2008, 09:52 AM
I love that Hersh likes to eat snow! Ruth, maybe you can find a hammock or lounge outside on which to nap. Outside naps are so lovely when it's nice outside! If you need any help staying up late, I'd be glad to offer my services--you know what a night owl I am! I didn't get to bed until 1:00 last night, so it wasn't easy getting up at 6:45 today! :tired:
:congrat: Cyndi on your amazing loss! :yay: :woohoo: :hat: :cheer2: You've done so great! You're planting already??? :yikes: No fair! I don't even have my seeds ordered yet! I better get cracking... Have a great trip--I love the beach (hence my name) so much and miss it terribly. Really. I hope you have a beautiful trip--I've never been to the beach in Vermont but have been to Connecticut's beaches and they were glorious!
Sounds like a fantastic day, Cottage! I'm SO jealous about the hunky Scotsman... YUMMMM-O! I'm always trying to get DH to wear a kilt but he has no interest. And here I am, reading all these Highland romance novels and daydreaming... Hope you have a great time! ;)
Ouch, Cat! <--that's a gentle one... You konw, I got cranberry pills (they're capsules with powder in them) at Sam's club a while ago. I take a couple of them whenever I feel something starting down there and I haven't had a real problem in a very long time. Great way to get the cranberry in high doses but without the sweetness. I hope you feel much, much better very soon! Oh, I love that song! "I don't know where ya been, lad, but I see ye won first prize!" :lol3:
off to mess up your social security records....
 Nessa! BTW, I'm so thrilled for you and your loss of weight but gain in diet savvy! :yay: :cheer2: :high: :yay: That's so awesome!!! I've started reading the Beck Diet Solution and mentioned it to my nutritionist and therapist. Both hadn't heard of it and are going to check it out. My nutritionist said he's planning on attending a conference/workshop this summer on something like it this summer. Very interesting! I need to pick up index cards on the way home...
Jan, as a Viking descendent, I'm thrilled to see you spelling today correctly! ;) Sorry about the doctor thing--but glad that you're feeling well!
:welcome3: Trailgroomer! I don't think we've "met" before. Glad to have you with us! You live in a lovely state--hope you have a wonderful hike and don't get too muddy! ;)
 Gonna, I hear you on wanting the weekend to be hear already so we can breathe! Good luck with the workouts!
Stephanie, I'm glad things are better. Have fun getting things ready with DD...it's such a magical time! Though last night some friends and I were talking about prom and everyone had horror stories. I guess it's never quite what you think it should be? Hope it's better for your DD.
:congrat: LC! Move those tickers, chickie! Hope you have a great trip this weekend!
Sorry things are frustrating right now, TK! Kids will test their limits all the time, but they are actually happier (inside, but they don't let you know!) when they have firm boundaries, so keep it up! A friend was telling me last night that her daughter keeps telling her that she hates her because she's mean (when she won't let her daughter do something) and my friend says, "Good, then I'm doing my job right!" I think there's some serious truth there. I thought my mom was awful when I was a teen and now I am endlessly grateful for her smart, patient, and strict parenting.
Had a hard night yesterday--went to a friend's son's funeral and then hung out with her, her husband, and some friends for a couple hours afterwards. My heart just hurts for them. :(
Off to the gym today after work, then home to get some stuff done and maybe relax with a movie. I have one that I got from Blockbuster like 5 or 6 weeks ago. :o It's called something like, "Beyond the Sea" and is the life story of Bobby Darren. It has some great actors in it, so I feel like I should watch it, but I don't think I'm really interested. I should just return it and get over the guilt of not watching it!
Hope everyone has a beautiful day! It's gorgeous here! :beach:
04-17-2008, 10:18 AM
beach, I saw that movie...it was ok...worth watching. The "flash-back scenes" were pretty interesting.
04-17-2008, 10:55 AM
Ruth, 4! Impressive. Good luck with the butter delivery. A syrup festival sounds delicious. I'll bet you're happy you aren't on p1 :)
Cat, ouch. :( try some acidophilus as well. Feel better!
Nessa, all the best for your husband :) Congrats on so many clean days!
TK, sorry to hear that things are still stressful in your neck of the woods. Have you read the book The Strong Willed Child by Dobson? It's really great, and might offer some insight on the situation.
Me, I have bunches to do today. Hubs is playing video games online with a friend of his right now.....and I'm not sure when he plans to leave for work. It's always much easier to get things done when he's gone. Laundry, though not too much. DS TRASHED his room last night, so that needs to get taken care of. Porch definitely needs to be cleaned and swept, there is birdseed everywhere.
Time to get dressed for the day and water my plants.
Have a great day, chicks :)
04-17-2008, 11:04 AM
LC :congrat: on your weight loss
Schmoodle my dh sounds like yours - they know whats ahead. My dh says as soon a you do one thing you start wanting to change everything. Hope it all works out for ya
hm enjoy your evening
gettin ready to do my lunch workout as I am full of energy
04-17-2008, 11:11 AM
Beyond the Sea is one of DH's favorite movies, he has many, many favorites. He loves Bobby Darin. The movie is entertaining. The flash-back scenes are some of the best and the "larger than life" musical numbers are fun.
04-17-2008, 01:15 PM
Femme...I take cranberry pills daily to prevent chronic UTI's. They're cheap and there is no added sugar. In my experience they are MUCH more effective than the juice because they are super concentrated...just drink lots of water when you take them to flush it through your system!
04-17-2008, 02:57 PM
Mandy, thanks for the advice. I get bladder problems once in awhile, and I think I might have to go get some to keep in stock as I'm not particularly fond of the taste of cranberry juice unless it's laced with vodka. ;)
04-17-2008, 04:46 PM
Hello again chicks. It was so nice out when I got ready to WATP, I decided it was silly to walk inside, so I took a long lunchtime walk. I made sure to go up a couple of steep hills. I've got a hair appointment at 5, so I'm killing a few minutes before time to head over. I am so ready for a trim!
DD worked on painting the living room today, it is a very dark color, and I think it'll take three coats. I'm not sure I like it but I'll wait until it's all up to decide. If I decide no, then DH will murder me. :D
04-17-2008, 04:57 PM
Robert was actually pretty easy to deal with when I came to pick up Brian last night. I hope he stays like that but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm crazy busy. Lots of email flying around about Twilight Camp and Wood Badge. Lots going on with work too. I'm leaving work in about 5 minutes to head to the dentist to get the temporary off and the overlay put on. Then I need to run to the store and grab cat litter, pick up Brian, mow the gras and start a load of laundry and then be at the school in 3 hours from now for the PTA meeting and multicultural night presentation. I want to also set up to record ER but I may forget.
I'm not sure everything can be squeezed in the time I have but I'm going to try. It probably depends on how long I am at the dentist.
04-17-2008, 05:03 PM
I figured you might all appreciate my afternoon. I had a training session for work, so I was out of the classroom and at a conference hall all day. They provide lunch there. THe last two times there was salad so I figured even if there was nothing I should be eating I could have a big salad for lunch and make sure to get some protein later. My plan did not work out...
Lunch- sandwiches- mostly Ham which I do not eat anyway
and a bunch of desserts which were tempting.
So out I went to go grab something. As tempting as the PB cookies were I enjoyed my grilled shrimp salad! Though I go a nasty look from the presenter when I was eating when she started again. Oh well. I had my plan, but I changed it and did not give in!! :carrot:
04-17-2008, 07:05 PM
I also have to brag on myself. Today I took 40 of my students on a fieldtrip and then to lunch. When I take them to lunch, buffets are easiest so i had set up to go to a pizza place that has a lunch time buffet. So while my students were stuffing their faces with pizza, fried chicken, & garlic bread I ate fish, roasted veggies, and a salad. GO ME!!!!!
04-17-2008, 07:21 PM
Happiness and hmacneil, :bravo: to both of you, digging in your heels and resisting temptation today!
04-17-2008, 11:00 PM
Congrats on the willpower today, ladies!
In my quest to live a more green lifestyle, my family and I really took a leap and bought only organic/natural supermarket stuff and local produce. I also took the frugal organic buyer route (dried beans instead of canned, etc.) For 11 days of food for the three of us, it cost right around $88. We planned for more vegetarian meals which really cut down on costs and is so much healthier for us. We also bought our produce at a local co-op, which cut costs and upped quality (always a good thing). I didn't need to buy milk this week (Albertson's had a 4/$10 on all kinds of Silk last week) but we usually only go through a half gallon a week (my son is really the only one to drink it). We stuck to our list (although DH threw in a 12 pack of Negro Modelo BECAUSE IT WAS ON SALE! *eyeroll*) but DS did get to pick out some treats. He chose apple-blueberry applesauce and these little dried peapod snacky things.
I feel really good about this. What it is doing for the environment is second to what it is doing for my family. Sure, we will have to make a sacrifice or two (hubs is a big meat-eater) but we're willing to, to reap the benefits.
I really thought it would be harder on my psyche and my checkbook, but it has proven to be rather fluid.
Tomorrow, I'm headed to the neighborhood hardware store that has compact fluorescent bulbs 3/$7, a big improvement to $5 a piece.
