South Beach Diet - Tantalizing Tuesday

View Full Version : Tantalizing Tuesday

04-15-2008, 06:53 AM
Morning I REALLY first this morning???

Cold here. Got down in the low 30's, so we had to hustle last night to cover all the new babies in the garden.

My son's duck decided to "peep" late into the night, husband snored and I didn't get much sleep. ugh. Come on, coffee!! I fixed a huge frittata yesterday, so at least we have a quick breakfast today (and enough for tomorrow too.!)

04-15-2008, 07:02 AM
:coffee: Coffee's on! Come pour yourself a cup and let's sit and chat for a bit. :)

I just put some chicken breasts in the oven for Chicken Divan for supper. :T I'll put together the casserole when I get back from Curves. I'm going to try to attack that WATP workout again, too. I'm determined not to let it get the better of me. I had a terrific day of eating clean yesterday, I'm going to fit back into my favorite jeans in no time! Last evening little Maggie handed me her half-eaten dish of ice cream and said she had enough. I stared at it, wanting to eat it so bad. Instead, I offered it to Audrey, and she eagerly gobbled it up. :D
So one clean day under my belt, I'm hoping today will be another good one.

Good morning, Cat! Yep, you were here first today! Thanks for getting us started! It's cold here this morning, too. We were in the mid 30s overnight, but it's supposed to gradually warm up all week and be in the high 70s by Thursday!!!

04-15-2008, 07:40 AM
Fffffffrosty here this morning so no coffee on the deck. Sunshine and much higher temperatures are in store for the rest of the week though - maybe 70 on Thursday!

Yesterday I looked in vain for my big garden cart. I was convinced someone had stolen it from the barn when I spotted a handle peeking out of a snow mountain! Since the mountain is 60? ice, it'll be a while before my cart appears. I'll have to make do with the wheelbarrow.

This morning I'm off to the ortho surgeon for a routine check. I have some questions for him including one about how to get rid of the swelling in my knee. My garden pants don't fit properly - the right leg looks like a "flood" - not that I worry too much about fashion when I'm gardening! The trip to the gym yesterday was good and I don't feel any more aches and pains than usual. I'll be doing that MWF from now on. I love the endorphin rush!

This afternoon I'll do a bit of yard work and then take Hershey to do pet therapy at the nursing home. She just loves it and rushes to the door as soon as I let her out of the car. She's on leash when we get inside for safety reasons. Tonight I plan to relax with diet gingerale and watch American Idol. I watch for creepy crawlies in Jason's dreads.

See y'all later.

04-15-2008, 09:03 AM
Never got back here to post again yesterday, but just wanted to say -
Kier - 90lbs!!!!!! That is so amazing!
And Nessa, how is DH? Is he still in the hospital?
And tk, you mentioned you were looking for things for DS to get involved in. I think you're right, every kid needs something they enjoy that can help build up their confidence. Didn't you say you guys had grounded him from Scouts? You might want to reconsider that, since Scouts can help him bond with a group of kids, and also they focus a lot on character-building.
Good morning Cat, tell that chick to peep down!
cottage, mmm, chicken divan, I made that last week. So yummy! Good luck with the WATP, I just bought the 4 mile super fat burner, and it's good! No weights though, I wish she used weights in all of them.
Oh Ruth, I'm glad you're getting some spring weather finally! Sounds like you are getting right back into your routine!

Last night DD and I found some Tokyo Mew Mew clip art and made some birthday party invitations - she is a big anime fan. She is turning 10 in two weeks and we are doing a roller skating party. Then I went upstairs to read at 8:00, until time to tuck the kids in, and the next thing I knew it was this morning! I guess DH shooed them to bed at the appropriate hour. Don't know why I get so tired sometimes, but I feel good this morning!

04-15-2008, 09:08 AM
Ruth, we are so hoping that they make Jason cut his hair! I do enjoy his style, though. He seems so laid back and genuine. My in-laws can't stand him, though. They've got a dreadlock predjudice!

Linda, does Maggie give classes? I've been a member of the Clean Plate Club my whole life and I really struggle with leaving food on my plate. I've found coping techniques, like serving myself smaller portions and boxing up half a restaurant meal before I even begin, but that really doesn't solve the compulsion to finish what's on the plate. I guess when I'm rich and famous my personal psychologist can work on it with me. :)

Cat, glad you got your workout in this morning! I've got mushrooms sauteeing on the stove for a frittata over here! Must be frittata week.

Schmoodle, we got caught in the simulposting of the morning! Have fun with the roller skating party planning!

We're leaving to take the car for its grand trip across the Atlantic today. The kids are staying with my grandparents for the day. Think my grandparents will get a good night's sleep tonight?! No point in dragging them all the way to Baltimore just to drive right back again. My dad, luckily, has an office in Baltimore and is meeting me at the drop-off place and then taking me out to lunch. Yay! Daddy-daughter time! It'll be a busy but productive day. I got packed last night so that's out of the way...just have to throw the toothbrushes and such in at the last minute as usual.

Have a good Tuesday all!

04-15-2008, 09:19 AM
tk, I was thinking about this also and have you thought about martial arts?

I'm asking because when my youngest son was that age, my husband "drug" him to a class a friend of his at the University was teaching. (aiki jutsu) This kid was NOT into sports at all and REALLY did not want to go to this class even though my husband told him he did not have to go back if he didn't like it. He was always the kid looking for bugs, reading books and thinking about dinosaurs. Real smart kid, but not terribly social with kids his age because he didn't have a lot in common with them. He had a very very small circle of friends who were also "bookish". After the first class, he decided he LOVED it and was teaching the class by the time he was a junior in high school. It was just this little 7th grader in the class and the rest all college kids.

It gave him a lot of confidence. This class does NOT promote violence in any way. The first day he was taught to always try to talk your way out of a situation, then to walk away from it, then to ONLY use what he is taught if his life in truly in danger. It really teaches that stregnth comes from within and how to handle life's challenges peacefully. He is now a senior in college and still running the dojo at the University. He got his 3rd degree black belt a few weeks ago.

 ladies! Good morning to ya.

It's a bit on the cold side here this morning and the high is only suppose to be 60.

Cat up bright and early getting a jump on the day - hope it's a great one

Cottage chicken divan how delish. You have the right attitude about those jeans and whose to say that when the time comes they won't be too big. Stay away from the ice cream it won't make anything any better I promise.

Ruth enjoy your evening looking for creepy crawlies ;)

Schmoodle sounds like you had a good nights rest.

Kara I hope you have a safe trip to baltimore and you enjoy your lunch date with your dad

Today is gonna be a busy one for me at work and of course there is the lunchtime workout and after work I will give my furbaby a bath & then clean the bathroom and by that time it will be Biggest Loser time and I can't wait.

Have a great & productive day everyone

04-15-2008, 10:08 AM
i dont' even have brain power or time to read... hubby came home and laid with his legs up all day and all night.. he got his shoes on so he went to work...

we will be sleeping on the couch for a week or so in hopes tha this swelling will go down

my food is still spot on 16 clean days in a row under my belt
scale 221.2 this morning...

now to catch up on work....

04-15-2008, 10:09 AM
Cat, that's an excellent suggestion! Karate and the other forms of martial arts are a great boost for kid's self-esteem.

Ruth, it's pretty hard to imagine 60" of snow right now. Those warm temps should melt it away quickly though!

Schmoodle, your body probably need that good night's sleep, you do a lot in a day! I'm really enjoying the WATP videos, I wish I would have discovered them sooner. My legs actually ache today, so I know I got a good workout.

Kara, have a safe drive to Baltimore! Is your father bringing you back home? I'll bet you're really excited about your trip tomorrow. How long are you staying? I was raised to be a member of The Clean Plate Club, too, and I know exactly what you're going through. I'm teaching the kids now to listen to their tummys, rather than eat everything on their plate. I need to listen to my own advice.

GONNA, have a great day!

Nessa, I'm glad your DH is home from the hospital, and I hope he gets through his day at work just fine. I think it's great that you've been staying OP through all your stress!

I just finished a yummy breakfast of radish home fries and a veggie omelet. I've been in a rut with hot cereal for months now, and decided it's time to shake things up a bit. I hope it tides me over until lunch!

04-15-2008, 10:10 AM
Good morning chicks! It's a little on the nippy side here this morning but supposed to be in the 60's and then 70's tomorrow!

Tk I have been reading about your issue with your son, I think the girls here have some great advice for you, I hope you can take bit and pieces of them and come up with a solution. to you parenting is the toughest job in the whole world!

Kara Just incase I don't get back here before you take off for Florida have a great time!

Me I am having some real struggles in my personal life right now. Fighting real hard to keep the "I am woman, hear me roar" part of me going, but there are times when I just want to be the cub! Trying real hard not to let it have an effect on my personal fitness, again thank goodness for yoga it is helping me relax and feel better about myself.

Enough of my whining, I hope you ladies have a great day!

:dust: to all who need it!

04-15-2008, 10:14 AM
Stephanie, it looks like you need this right now - :grouphug: Hang in there, I hope the future looks brighter real soon for you.

04-15-2008, 10:19 AM
Kara, enjoy Baltimore, you should have some pretty weather today.
Stephanie, feel better soon. It's okay to be the cub sometimes! It amazes me how the little 30 minute yoga workout I have makes my muscles feel like they've really done something and puts my head right where it needs to be.
Poor Nessa, hope DH does okay today and you are not worrying too much. 16 clean days in a row is amazing! I wish I could say the same... BTW, you should change the weight in your signature! I think it's safe now!
Gonna, have a great busy day today! Only 60! That's springtime weather! Love it! That's what we're getting here today.

04-15-2008, 10:38 AM
Good morning all! Just got through with my mile walk and unfortunately I don't have a huge amount of time to post....hopefully I'll get back later in the day.
The walk was good, it felt much better today than yesterday. I ate really well, had marinated London Broil and stuffed mushrooms for dinner yesterday. And dessert was FANTASTIC! Grasshopper Ricotta Mousse. SO YUMMY!!!

Tonight is such a tough night for me to watch TV. I really want to watch the Biggest Loser Finale, but I also need to get in Idol.....Maybe I'll tape Idol tonight and watch BL live. Tivo is great, but I'm now into Too Much. Just glad that BL is over tonight! I really hope Kelly takes the whole thing! I'd love to see a woman win.

04-15-2008, 10:41 AM
Good morning, everyone.

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but it wasn't happening at the beach for me. I have fallen off all of the wagons I was trying to be on, and my life has become chaos. I haven't stepped on a scale in over a week, and honestly am afraid to. I have no motivation to stick with any kind of a diet, but I still want to lose weight. How contradictory is that? I have no motivation to exercise, but I know I need to. I think I'll just go buy that size 14 dress for the wedding now, because there's no way I'm losing 30 pounds before then. See y'all later when I get my head screwed back on straight.

TK - I thought I'd mention to you that I had much the same experience with my son. After YEARS of doing character-building and such, he still lacks the ability to make the right choice, his brain just leaves him when it's time to make a good decision.

My solution was to move him to a private school where there is less of that. It's not that it is GONE, it's just less. He still has issues, and he's slowly outgrowing some of them, but it's a slow road, and he's still behind his peers when it comes to common sense.

04-15-2008, 10:43 AM
Nessa my :crossed: for your dh to have a speedy recovery

Stephanie  sorry for what you are going through. Stand strong and soon this all will pass

hmacneil I am pulling for a woman this time - on the readio yestyrday morning they intervioewd Kelly & Julie (from last year) as Julie lioves here in Jacksonville and Kelly said she got home from the show and had a nervouse break down not knowing what to do so Jillian told her to call Julie and Kelly moved in with Julie (here in Jax) and worked out together with Julies trainer - I really feel strong that elly has a good chance at this - I can't wait for tonight

04-15-2008, 10:59 AM
 Morning Chicks

Just a quick check-in this morning. Why is it that when I go to work late (and stay late) I have a much longer list of chores than when I come home at the normal time?! Ah well, I guess it's good to get things done.

Looks like spring is finally here for real :sunny: I'm going to get out for a couple of small walks today so I don't feel like a slug.

I've been losing and regaining the same two lbs all month and I'm getting a little tired of them. It was bound to happen after last month but I still hate it!

I ate too much last night - not off plan just way more than I needed to. It's such a throw back to the way I used to eat and it annoys me. I wonder if Beck would help with that mental piece of it? I know if goes all the way back to my childhood and control issues but knowing isn't always enough to stop it sometimes. I need to figure that one out or I risk ending up back where I started.

Okay, off to run a million errands before work. Have a good day :)

04-15-2008, 11:11 AM
Cat: Thanks for starting us up this morning! Sorry you didn't get a good night's sleep last night and I hope it's much better tonight. That's a great idea about the martial arts. My aunt and uncle did that for my cousin, who was having a hard time with bullies and what-not at school. Not only did it boost his confidence, but it gave him the ability to see the bullies for what they really were. Now incidences with them just roll off of his shoulder.

cottage: Great job ignoring that ice cream - I don't think I would have been able to! Enjoy that WATP dvd. I love doing them! It took me a while to get started, but now a four-mile walk is pretty darn easy. I find it shocking that I can intentionally walk four miles at one time! Have a great day!

Ruth: I hope you and Hershey enjoy your pet therapy time! Unfortunately, most of my garden-work is out front, so I have to be fashion-conscious. (Just in case the UPS man comes! ;)) I think it's great that you're back at the gym!

Schmoodle: Well, at least it sounds like you got a good night's sleep! I hope that you have a great day!

Kara: Enjoy your daughter-daddy time. I still love spending some alone time with my dad. With two sisters and living so far away, it is hard, though. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Be careful driving! And  to grandma and grandpa, although I'm sure your little ones will be angels!

Gonna: Sounds like a busy day for you! Could I send my pups over for a bath? They really need it! I may just have to bite the bullet and send them to the groomer. Enjoy Biggest Loser tonight!

Nessa:  to you and DH. I hope that today and tonight are better times for both of you!

Stephanie: I figure it's okay to be a cub every once in a while. I know my man enjoys it when my "roaring woman" needs a break! I hope you get back into your groove soon!

hmacneil: Hope you enjoy your TV night. DH and I are the same way - too many shows to watch, but we don't have TiVo or anything like that, so we have to make informed decisions. We have a process of elimination to determine what gets watched. Have a good day!!

FluffyK: I can honestly say that most of us have been where you are right now. What works best for me is to step back, rearrange my priorities and come back at it with new vigor. One super-helpful thing for me is to make a list of all the benefits of getting to my ideal weight. That really helps me to reset my focus. Either way, you won't be 100% into this until you're really ready. to you!!

Me: This post has taken me FOREVER, so I'm sure there will be some simul-posting going on. :D

My goal was to wake up this morning and work out, but that didn't happen, so it'll be workout tonight, leftover chicken with sweet potatoes for dinner and beginning to clean the house for our company (my sisters) this weekend.

Bizarre Foods is on at 9pm, so DH and I will be parked on the couch from 9-10, then it's off to bed for me! I bet I'll wake up at 5:30am tomorrow when it's a rest day from working out! Well, I could use the time to get stuff around the house done.

Well, off to work for me! Have a beachin' day! :beach:

little chick
04-15-2008, 11:11 AM
Good morning chicks. The sun is shinning here today as well. And it feels like spring. :D. The ducks are swimming around in the water out back and the birds are chirpping in the trees. I love spring days like this. Had a clean eating day yesterday it feels good to be back on track. No time for personals right now, I have been trying to post this all morning. We have a dance show on friday night so there is lots to get done for that and then we leave a week from today for Halifax. Just going to show a pic of our new baby.

04-15-2008, 11:31 AM
Cat, I am also a firm believer in martial arts. It teaches self respect and respect for the people around you. Especially parents. It can really change a kids life. We're planning on getting Calvin into it asap. I think we can start Judo at 3, and Hapkido at 6? maybe.

Krystal, I know that feeling all too well. Stick to your guns, girl. Don't tell yourself that you can't do it, just do it! Who cares if you don't lose 30 lbs. by the wedding, maybe you'll lose 10 and look that much better! *hug*

little chick, your new kitty is adorable! I think we're getting a new kitten soon. :)

Good morning, Chicks. Sorry, I don't have time for many more personals.

I got the Beck book from the library yesterday, and think I might start it today...even though I have quite a few other books on my plate right now.

Today is cleaning day. I missed my home blessing hour yesterday because of too many other things, so I'll have to do that today. I also have a bunch of cooking to do for DS. Once a week I cook meals for him, and put them in pre-portioned packages for lunches and quick dinners in case hubs and I are eating too late.

We're going out tonight to look at laptops. Hubs needs a new one for his job. Best Buy has a really great sale on one right now. They are so expensive! At least we have savings to use and don't have to use credit cards. I feel so much better when we pay cash for something.

I got about half-way through the new Cooking Light cookbook, and realized that I'm going to need to spend half a day with the copy machine. It's a GREAT book.

Have a great day, girls. :)

04-15-2008, 11:50 AM
Kim enjoy Bizzare Foods - I for some reason just can't watch it. I will be washing furbabys around 7ish so have yours there ;)

LC I just love your new baby

zeffryn good luck with the laptop shopping this evening and I hope you get those recipes copied

04-15-2008, 12:15 PM
FluffyK - Stay've got it in you to continue. Stick it out. It'll be so much better in a day or two. Hang in there!

Gonnabe - Good to hear that Kelly got some support once she got home. It's got to be such a scary time for all of the BL contestants when they go home. There is so much riding on them that I can only imagine the pressure. Tonight will be interesting.

Kim - It's probably a good thing that you don't have TiVo. As much as we LOVE it, it's completely changed our tv viewing habits. Just like you, I used to make choices about what I watch, now I just tape alot and watch when I want to. I guess, however, that I don't watch as much "crap" tv when I have nothing to do. I at least have (what I consider) more quality tv to turn to. My dh and I LOVE Bizzare foods as well. It's one of like 5 shows that we both agree on

Littlechick - SO CUTE!!! What's his name?

zeffryn - You FLY, don't you? I have been off my routine for a while now, but you mentioning your home blessing makes me want to get back into the swing of things. Good luck with the computer purchase tonight!

Again, Have a great Tuesday, ladies!!!!!

ENJOY ~ Heather

little chick
04-15-2008, 01:10 PM
Heather her name is Ellie, short for Elephant.... as she is all grey and her little tail stands up stright. The dd's named her. She is so cute and tiny. I will have to try to take a pic of her with our other cat. I can't believe she didn't cry at all last night for her mama or sisters.

04-15-2008, 01:37 PM

04-15-2008, 01:52 PM
Hello...beachy ladies!

Hope your days are GRAND!!!!

04-15-2008, 04:17 PM
I totallt disagreed with taking cub scouts away being that that is a place and probably the only place he feels accepted but had to compromise with DH. He was thinking of taking the whole thing away from him but I told him just for awhile then he can go back. In the meantime, I am still gonna work with him on his badges, etc. I wanted to put him in karate somethin but DH doesn't think that he'll last, he's some what a "sissy kid" and he won't make it. I told him that we need for him to try different things and keep him in what he's good at and that'll boost his self confidence but he doesn't agree. I don't know how his thinking goes sometimes. It totally frustrates me. I am a baker and I think since next month I might be making some good money then I'll probably sign him up for something. And I think soccer is coming this summer too. My husband doesn't have confidence in my son at all, I just don't know how to show him that he needs to believe in him and accept him in order for him to be stronger around others. My husband just doesn't understand it.

04-15-2008, 05:34 PM
tk, none of my kids were ever too much into team sports. They all did t-ball, etc, but got bored with it quickly. But I let them try different things and they all ended up finding something they enjoyed and could feel like they were good at - dance, swimming, and horseback riding. I hope you can find something for him and get DH on board.

lc, she is soooo cute. I love kitties, particularly all gray ones! I've had two that look like her. They are adorable! I love the name the girls picked.

04-15-2008, 05:36 PM
tk - I really hope he can go back to scouting soon. I really feel scouts has so much to offer kids. It has really helped Brian to grow and I'm so proud when I see him going up to the Scoutmaster to get rank requirements signed off. Brian has gotten a lot of enjoyment out of gymnastics. He'll never be great but he has fun. The martial art suggestions sound good and I bet the rec center has reasonably priced classes. Good luck!

I went downtown for the start of the social study today. The orientation part was okay and I really like the counselor that is assigned to our case. It was so tough being in the room with Robert though. He was telling her that I was lying about the assault and then he refused to sign the release to let her get the police report. She can get a copy without his signature but it won't have as much detail. He said that the police were totally biased against him. I think she saw how he could be. I hope so. After this, all the interviews will be separate. She will also observe Brian interacting with each of us separately (different visits) from behind a window and she will talk to him. She will also make family visits to both houses and interview the family that Robert is staying with including both of their kids. He wouldn't admit in front of me if he had a job or not but said he would talk to her after I left.

I'm just glad to have this started.

04-15-2008, 05:41 PM
Barb, I know you'll be glad when it's over, but you know you have nothing to worry about.

04-15-2008, 07:36 PM
HI! Wow what a week already! I spend my day at work working, and then I come home and do travel at night, but the travel part is fun, unlike the main job. It's really taking off and I can't believe it! I'm actually becoming.... successful? What? WOO HOO!

Still holding steady at 125, although I haven't been super strict or anything. I really should get back at it. Someone kick me in the pants please. Only another month and a half til bikini season and I'm not near ready yet, and I have a pool right out the back door of the apartment that I didn't get to use last year, so I'd like to take the little one to the pool. Where's Schatzi when I need a good drill sargent yelling at?

Kara, are you excited about Florida tomorrow? (Like I had to ask.) I'm so jealous! Go enjoy the beautiful white beaches of Ft. Walton Beach and Destin! Stop at Alvin's Island and get me a pencil or something. ;) Just kidding. There used to be a place in Destin that had a boat dock right there for tours/boat rides and it had yummy slushy drinks. I believe it was called Fat Tuesdays, but they had like every flavor of slushy drink ever, and could even make them virgin (for people like me, as I haven't been there since I was 17.) We used to stay at the Destin Beach Club and thoroughly enjoyed it down there.

Well, better get on a healthy dinner before Tommy gets home and we have boxed Mac n Cheese or Spaghettios or something. Talk to you girls soon!

04-15-2008, 09:21 PM
Hmacneil, yeah, I fly. I've been a bit off my plan this week....but since I've been really good about it in weeks past, it hasn't been that big of a deal :) I didn't have time for my house blessing today either, but I'm going to do a bit tonight and finish the rest in the morning.

KO, a house blessing is a term coined by the Flylady. It's a home organization system. The home blessing hour consists of 10 minute spurts of simple tasks; changing sheets, vacuuming middles of rooms, taking out garbage, cleaning mirrors, dusting of horizontal surfaces, cleaning "hot spots" (clutter catcher areas), sweep/mop bathroom/kitchen floors. It really does wonders for making the house look presentable. In addition to the weekly home blessing, she gives little tasks for everyday of the week that usually take 15 minutes or so to complete that deep clean certain areas of the home. You can check it out for yourself @

Hubs and I went shopping this afternoon. Got the boys haircuts :) I've been looking for a lightweight white cardigan for awhile now and finally found one 40% off @ Lane Bryant. I got the smallest size and it was still a little big, but it's just for quick coverups @ church and during windy/chilly weather. It was worth it for the price. Just a note, they have all their hosiery (not spanx :(_) on sale for $1.99, definitely a great price to stock up. I got 4 pairs in my current size and 4 pairs in the next smallest size. We also stopped at Ann Taylor Loft ( <3 ), and I bought a black sleeveless shirt with a embroidered panel under the bust line. It's really cute.

mmk. Time to clean up a little. I'm not hungry at all, so hubs and I are waiting to eat dinner.
