Coffee is on and the weekend has begun. Come on in :)
It's overcast and rainy here but I know this rain will turn everything green so I can wait! How are things in your corner of the world?
04-12-2008, 08:02 AM
Thanks for getting us started up this morning, Cyndi! And double-thanks for the coffee! :) I'm at my DD's, and they aren't coffee drinkers. I'll have to be happy with a cup of tea until my son-in-law goes out for coffee and bagels for us.
Caitlyn called me yesterday to see if I wanted to help her shop for a prom dress today, then Monica called me back and begged me to come out for the weekend, so here I am. Jake was going to be busy all weekend, anyway, so this works out fine.
I can hear Carley up and about, so it looks like our day is starting.
04-12-2008, 09:36 AM
I don't think I've been up to post this early before...
So, my grandma passed away this morning at 2am. She went quietly and peacefully. My grandpa was there, they were married 54 years.
I'm still kinda numb. It hasn't really hit me yet. I'm enjoying some chocolate mint tea. I'll prolly take a shower and then call my parents to see what's going on. Its overcast here. Last night there were thunderstorms, it was beautiful and peaceful.
I hope everyone has a good weekend, I'll be on here and there throughout the weekend.
04-12-2008, 10:09 AM

04-12-2008, 10:18 AM
What? No beach blanket bingo this weekend, Cyndi???
Linda, have fun prom dress shopping! Did Caitlyn have fun in France? I forgot to ask you.
TDI (I forgot your name...does it start with R?), I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Nessa, don't worry about being rude. I'm sure if you're going to a friend's house they know you well enough to understand your reasons!
Looks like the sun is poking through the clouds here. It was supposed to rain all day, but I'll take this instead! I've got ten miles to get done today and I'd much rather run them dry!!!
04-12-2008, 10:28 AM
It's mid arvo my side of the pond, so I'm just sorting out the meal plan for next week so I can get Asda to deliver it. Must remember to put some snack stuff on - I've tried to ensure there's no snacks in the house, but it just means I go mental at night and end up eating stuff I shouldn't.
Doesn't help that me and DD make white chocolate muffins for Daddy's lunchbox...they're still warm and the chocolate is oozing out....
Tidiprincess - sorry to hear about your grandma - love to you and yours.
04-12-2008, 10:37 AM
Good morning chicks, I lazed in bed and read my book for a while, now DH has made me coffee and I am waking up and considering what I should do with the weekend. There is a huge list of things I COULD do, including grocery shopping, scrubbing woodwork, painting the living room, or tilling the horse poo into the garden. All really fun stuff. I will have to see which mood strikes me in a bit. Right now it looks nice out, a little overcast but bursts of sun and mild temp. Then the kids have a birthday party this afternoon at the laser tag place, so I'll have to get dinner done early. I have had a good week, so I think I will allow myself half a bar of dark chocolate tonight. I had my glass of wine last night at my mom's - those are my rewards for making it through a clean week.
I am mad at my neighbor. He is a tree guy and stacks his wood at the back of his yard, which connects with the back of my yard. He has four rows of wood, about 40' long, and the last row is stacked on an old concrete retaining wall which is actually ON my property. It has been there since we moved in, rotting and full of bees, and ready to collapse. Once I looked out my window and saw the neighbor kid climbing on the pile and almost had a heart attack. So we asked him to remove the old rotten wood, which he did, only to replace it with a new stack of wood. On my property! He actually had to come around into our yard to stack it from this side! We weren't home at the time. Anyway, the pile is about 7' tall from our side, and not stable, so yesterday it collapsed into my yard, which was full of kids playing at the time - fortunately nobody was near it. He doesn't live in that house, rents it out, and we haven't been able to get in touch with him. So I guess I'll go take some pictures and look up the ordnances to see if there is any grounds to lodge a complaint.
Ooops, started ranting and forgot personals!
Oberon, good luck staying away from those muffins! Here's some willpower dust!
Sounds like a good day Nessa, sleeping in, new couch, coffee from DH! Have fun at the dinner!
Have fun shopping cottage! Prom dress shopping IS kind of fun...
tdi, so sorry about your grandma. After 54 years, I'm sure your grandpa will miss her a lot. Hugs to you and your family.
04-12-2008, 10:39 AM
Good Morning, Ladies and Happy Saturday!!!
Princess - So sorry for your lost. Word of advice, be sure to continue to be good to yourself. Remember to continue to eat healthfully and drink your water. May peace surround you and your family at this time.
It's early here on the west coast but I'm up and at'em at the USO. Very quite here, not too many soldiers sleeping right now. I found out yesterday that we're getting a family in today because their son unfortunately died while serving in the Middle East and there here to meet up with the casket. And to top it off, my usual partner is not here today, so I'm running this place solo. I really pray that it doesn't get too hectic and I can be a source of comfort for the family when they come in.
I hope you all have fantastic weekends......and keep up the good work!
04-12-2008, 11:23 AM
Good Morning, Chicks! I hope everyone is off to a great start this weekend!
It's a beautiful day here in southern Louisiana, and I think we're going to go to the park for the 5k that the 3FC members organized and then off to do some shopping. My husband finished a little portion of his paper, and his mom wants to celebrate so she's taking him -- and me, I guess -- to Best Buy. He wants video games, and I'll try to sneak in a new scale. The cheapy one that I bought sucks! Depending on how you stand on it, it can vary 10 lbs! It's 9:30 and nobody else is awake yet (it was a late night), so I guess I'll get started on my cleaning for the day and try to get some breakfast and a pot of espresso going :)
Last night at the dinner party, I refused dressing on my salad because it wasn't ok, refused rice with my main course because it wasn't ok....and thankfully there was someone else there that wasn't allowed to eat sugar (a child, stifling an allergy) so we didn't even do dessert. I was worried about that one! I think I did ok, all things considered :)
TDI, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. <3
04-12-2008, 11:50 AM
It was kind of cloudy and cool this morning, but the sun is coming out now...and hopefully will stay out. Very unusual for us, but we are having a really lazy morning. Just fixed some blueberry/pecan belgian waffles and getting ready to get in gear and get the house cleaned.
Going to New Orleans this afternoon to meet an old friend who I haven't seen in about 30 years. We are going to a restaurant on St. Charles Ave and looking forward to catching up with each other. Then we MAY go to the French Quarter Festival if we can possibly find a place to park.
td, so sorry about your Grandmother. It is so hard to go through. Keeping you in my thoughts.
04-12-2008, 12:02 PM
scale report (not official till wednesday) but it's down another pound.. 221... i'm gonna have to change the profile aren't I?
04-12-2008, 12:42 PM
First off, Tdiprincess, I'm very sorry about your loss, but am happy that she was able to go peacefully and with your grandpa nearby. I hope that you are all able to find comfort in your grieving. Let us know if you need to talk or anything.
Cyndi: Thanks for starting us up! I hope you have a good morning; the coffee was great! :coffee:
Cottage: Oooh, prom dress shopping sounds like a lot of fun! I hope that you enjoy it! (I also hope that you're enjoying your coffee by now! ;))
Nessa: Congrats on making it to 221! You're doing great! I can't wait to see your changed profile. Enjoy your dinner party tonight.
Kara: Enjoy your run! 10 miles?! Sheesh! I don't know the last time I drove ten miles. (Yeah, our town is that small. :))
Oberon: I haven't "met" you before, so welcome! I think you'll get used to baking and not eating. Lots of us SB chicks bake for our families and friends. We're all good at not eating (well, most of the time.)
Schmoodle: Your neighbor situation sounds awful! I'm sure that there is something that can be done about it, especially since it creates a health risk and is on your property. I don't know where you are, but here, penalties are pretty strict when it comes to other's property. Enjoy your chocolate bar! Sounds yummy!
hmacneil: I don't think I've "met" you, either, so welcome! So sorry to hear about the soldier's family and their loss. I don't think I could handle that situation. You are a strong person and I admire that. Hope it's a good day in spite of your responsibilities today.
zeffryn: Congrats on your successful dinner last night! One of the hardest things for me is refusing someone's hospitality when it comes to food, but I'm getting better at it. I should take some tips from you and Nessa! Have a nice day and I hope you get a fancy scale!!
Cat: Enjoy your day. Ours started out the same way. Sounds like you have a wonderful day planned!
Me: Well, we watched both A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back last night, so we ended up sleeping until 9:30. :yikes: There goes my three-day streak of getting up early!
The house is clean (yay), so I'm going to start laundry, clean up the rose bushes, pin some pillows that I'm making for my sister's bday, workout and run errands with DH. Sounds like busy work, but it's all stuff I enjoy. Well, maybe except for the laundry.
Well, the weather is right, so I'm going to head out to the yard. Have a good day!
04-12-2008, 02:35 PM
Kim, everyone deserves a sleep-in now and again. Hey, someone tell Avery. She was up at 6:45 this morning! Sometimes I feel like I'm in "Lady and the Tramp"!
Nessa, :carrot: Look at you! One pound away from goal!!!
Cat, I'm expecting reviews on your restaurant meal! We're still looking around for the "perfect" place.
Zeff, hope you find a really cool scale! I'm still looking for one that doesn't have attitude...
Heather, thanks for volunteering at the USO! We often use the USO when we travel and it's always a very welcoming and understanding crowd in there.
Schmoo, good luck with the neighbor. Sounds like a pain in the rear!
Oberon, white chocolate muffins sound divine! I've taken a temporary hiatus from baking, as I've found it hard to resist the fruits of my labors. Sometimes I have the will power and will churn out a cake or cookies, though!
Connor's off at my parents' for a sleep over and both girls are napping, so I'm having a nice, quiet afternoon. My sister is coming over to play with the girls while I run this afternoon. Whew. I need to get myself psyched up for this one. I've done ten miles before but not for awhile.
04-12-2008, 03:58 PM
Well, the yard is done and that's about it. There is a load of clothes in the washer, but I haven't started anything else yet. The yard ended up taking 2 hours to do, which is more than I planned, but it looks great! DH and I will be running errands shortly and when we get back I'll work out. I should finish the laundry and some ironing tonight, so tomorrow I'll be able to spend a lot of time on the pillows. Sigh. There just never seems to be enough weekend!
Kara: Enjoy your quiet time and your run! You can do this!!
04-12-2008, 08:55 PM
Here's a picture of Caitie in the prom gown we decided on. The picture was taken with a cellphone, so it's not the best picture.
She tried on dozens of gowns in several stores, but we all liked this one best. :)
04-12-2008, 10:21 PM
Aw, Linda! She looks beautiful! The gown is just perfect!
Kim, you workaholic, you. Man, you got a lot done today!
I think I'm going to hit the sack early this evening. The house is cleaned up and the kiddos are asleep and I've had my shower and brushed and flossed. It'll be nice to have a long sleep!
04-13-2008, 01:14 AM
Thank you all for your support. I know I should be eating healthy, but I don't have the time to do it. I'm not binging on anything. I'm eating each meal and smaller portions. But I'm not worrying about technicalities right now.
Once this is all over, we'll be getting back to our normal diet and start over....
I'm still in the numb phase. I'm doing what needs to get done and going, going going. I helped my sister make lasagna for dinner tonight while my mom and dad went around to find a funeral home, casket and plot.
It was a weird transition. We're used to our mom getting dinners ready and preparing food the the next day. Times have changed.
I miss my grandma. We were all very close. She was a great woman. I think i'll make a thread with a few pictures of her and my grandpa soon. Maybe later on in the week when things calm down.
thank you for your words of encouragement. Its much appreciated.
My DH is taking very good care of me and the family. He's helping me stay calm and get through this all. So is praying to God, he's keeping me calm and relaxed.
04-13-2008, 01:17 AM
The friends we had over tonight to watch a movie just left.
I'm worried about my friend. Her marriage is about to be over. She is doing some things to her husband that I think are truly egregious. She told her husband that she would leave him if he filed for custody of his son (from a previous relationship) that isn't being treated well by his mom. What kind of person would do that? The kid is a sweetheart, and is only 5.
Anyway, I know she hardly ever eats and I think it's really taking its toll on her body. She looks very sallow, washed out, and has big dark circles under her eyes. She just doesn't look well.
I don't know how to approach the subject with her, and I think my husband is going to talk to her husband (his best friend) about maybe getting her some help. Depression and suicide run VERY heavily in her family, and I can tell that she is slipping away.
Other than that, hubs and I went to Target today to get a bunch of random stuff. They started selling 7th gen. stuff, so I picked up some laundry detergent. I usually use shaklee, but I needed some pronto. Got a nice cup of tea while we shopped. Found the "Feel and Learn" diapers on sale, a big big pack for 7 bucks. 70% off. :) I also found a couple cute tanks for cheap.
Got a much needed pedicure this afternoon, and cleaned up the house. Did some dishes and laundry and re-potted a few plants.
04-13-2008, 08:11 AM
Coffee and the sunrise are all that's happening here right now. I had a great time with my friends and my ticker is definitely fibbing today! Back onto the Beach with leg irons!
04-13-2008, 08:15 AM
Ruth-maybe you should stay away from the water's edge with those leg irons on...stay on your beach chair young lady!
04-13-2008, 08:25 AM
Good morning Chicks :coffee:
It's overcast and much cooler today but still not raining (or worse) so I'm not going to complain :) I really need to get in the storage room anyway and nice weather would be too tempting. I have 3 or 4 bins of summer clothes that need to be taken out and donated somewhere. I have realized that absolutely nothing will fit anymore so everything needs to go. I'm also being brave and putting wool sweaters and turtlenecks away. I've decided it is spring and I'm not wearing those things until next fall!
Ruth - Sometimes having fun with friends is worth it :) How's your snow melting?
SkinnyDogMom -
Now for breakfast and then chores!
04-13-2008, 08:27 AM
Hi just wanted to update everyone. I've been working a lot and have a day off today. I've broken the 220's. I lost nearly 5 lbs this week. The thyroid problem is helping that along I imagine but work's very physical and Ive been very strict too. 200 is my goal for the summer. My poor husband on the other hand has hit a major plateau and hasn't lost anything for the past month. Its good to see everyone still beaching
04-13-2008, 08:42 AM
Good to see you, Spirit! Congratulations on your big loss!
I should find a pair of those leg iron chains for myself, Ruth. I overdid it a little yesterday with the eating, and we stayed up late last night sipping some really good spiced rum.
I'm in serious need of coffee!!!!!!! Next time I'm refusing to visit my DD until they get a coffee maker! I won't get my first cup until we get to church. :(
04-13-2008, 09:10 AM
Cottage - I actually bring my own coffee and a melita when I go to my Mom's. She only has flavored decaf :barf: and there is no where within half an hour to get a decent cup of coffee. I've actually been desperate enough to drink 7-11 coffee when there (yes, I am a coffee snob).
04-13-2008, 10:03 AM
Morning everyone! Quick post...I took the day off yesterday and have to make up the time.
We went to N.O. yesterday to see a friend I hadn't seen in 30 years. Went out to eat (I had grilled Tuna) and then were "bad" and hit my favorite pastry shop (and yes, I shared it!) I'm the one with the dark hair (http://www.kodakgallery.com/femmecreole/main/new_orleans_april_2008?)
The restaurant we went to is a typical "New Orleans neighborhood restaurant/bar" which has been around a long time. They rebuilt after the storm. One of those "secret places" that everyone knows about!
Need to get myself busy...hope you all have a fabulous day!
04-13-2008, 10:51 AM
Good Sunday morning all! It looks sunny but with ominous clouds to the south (? - I'm terribly awful with direction) so I'm hoping the sun wins!
I'm feeling terrific this morning! I got my long run in yesterday so I got to sleep in today. We're about to make breakfast and then it's off to church and errands. Connor needs some new T-shirts for going to Florida, Kadyn needs sandals, we need snacks for the plane, I'm getting a pair of shoes I've been ogling for years because I've been so good this week, gotta pick up pictures of the kids from Penney's that I had taken two weeks ago...lots to do! Then back home to clean out the car and finish packing. The car leaves in two days and we leave in three!
TDI, glad to hear the family is banding together. Our continued prayers are with you!
Zeff, sorry to hear about your friend. I really have no advice, but I hope someone will jump in with words of wisdom. I'd take it to my knees.
Jen, great job on your loss! Glad the job is keeping you busy and out of trouble!
Cat, your outfit is adorable, and the picture of the toe ring made me laugh!
Ruth, I'm glad you had fun with the friends!
Morning, Karla! How was your birthday?
Cyndi, I'm sure the weather will listen to you and warm up now that you've put away the turtlenecks!
Linda, sorry about the no coffee situation! We don't drink coffee, but we do have a tea maker that can double as a coffee maker, so I always get something for guests. I love the smell of coffee, but can't stand the taste.
OK, I'd better get breakfast going or we won't make it to church on time. Have a great day!
04-13-2008, 11:30 AM
Kara, glad you like the outfit...you know what makes it really great??? The skirt was my daughters!! She left it here to go to Goodwill. Now I can go shopping in my attic. I remember I was so jealous she could wear that little skirt and now it's mine. Thankyou, SB.
04-13-2008, 11:46 AM
It's overcast and much cooler here this morning. I actually got up before 8AM, but DS requested pancakes and once I started cooking it turned into a cooking frenzy. Here's what I've got prepped for the week:
1 pan bean brownies
1 pan Nessa bars
hardboiled and deviled eggs
1 batch cold brew coffee concentrate
Veggie Soup is simmering
Tuna Tabouleh salad
Salsa chicken in the crockpot for dinner.
Whew, just started a load of dishes and a load of laundry, so time to sit and sip for a while. I bought the WATP 4 mile yesterday, so I may go give that a try in a few minutes, then hit the shower. The scale did not budge this week, but after 3 lbs. last week I will not complain. I'll keep the exercise up and see if anything happens next week!
Want to take the kids to the pool this afternoon, and visit my grandmother. Then we may meet some friends at a park, but we'll see if the weather cooperates.
You know, I had my chocolate bar last night, but once I finished eating it, I realized I didn't really taste it or enjoy it. I tried to eat it slow and pay attention, but maybe it wasn't great chocolate? Made me sad because I could have just not eaten it and not missed it at all...
Happy sewing today, Kim. I know what you mean about the weekends. I always start off with a huge to-do list and am always disappointed I don't get more stuff crossed off. I wanted to get into the yard work yesterday but never did.
cottage, great choice on the dress. That raspberry color is perfect for her. And she looks very classic and beautiful. A lot of the prom dresses today are designed to let everything hang out!
tdi, you are in my thoughts. I'm so glad to hear that DH is taking good care of you.
Hi spirit, glad everything is going well for you! 5 lbs. is amazing!
Morning Kara, zeff, and Karla.! :dancer:Hope you guys have a great day!
Cat, looks like a fun day! Hope you get a lot done today.
Hi Cyndi, think I may do some clothes sorting today too. I haven't found any of DS's summer stuff and he could have used a short sleeved shirt yesterday.
Have a good one chicks!
04-13-2008, 12:17 PM
good morning everyone. Thanks for the thoughts. I finally slept the night YAY!... I'm still tired, but got lots to do. We'll see where I end up tonight. I wanted to do the 3K walk this weekend, but that kinda got shot out of the water....
But eh, such is life. Maybe I'll do it next weekend, just to do it :)
Anyhow, off to run errands be back later...
04-13-2008, 04:39 PM
Alright I will try this again, I tried to send 2 post yesterday but they didn't make it to where they were suppose to.
Schmoodle could you tell me where do I find the recipe for Nessa's bars. I found the recipe for the roasted chickpeas I want to try for my dad but not for the other.
I am waiting to make bean brownies until I get off of phase one so I can use agave nectar. I thought a pan of brownies would be a nice reward if I make it through.
Hopefully this will go where it is suppose to. Will send it and then check in a little while to see if it makes it.
04-13-2008, 04:51 PM
Here's the link to Nessa Bars. (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111624) I just edited the name to add her name since that's what we call them. They are officially Oatmeal Breakfast Bars and are in the Phase II Breakfast Section.
Just back from a small grocery shop. It's pretty cold out there but half the ice has gone from the Lower Lake and there are two guys out there in their boat! Canadians are a hardy lot. It's 40ºF and windy.
04-13-2008, 05:40 PM
Thanks for editing the name, Ruth! I was wondering why so many people had trouble finding them...
Phoenix, looks like this post made it at least! Good to see you checking in.
TDI, glad you slept the night. If you can fit it in, a walk might be just what you need...time to clear your head...those good endorphins flowing through your body...
Schmoo, you're on a roll! Hey, do you have a trick for eggs that peel well? Some of mine are just murder to peel!
Cat, the skirt suits you well! Nothing like shopping in the attic! I like shopping in my sisters' closets, personally.
We're home from errands and I don't know if I'm going to get the car cleaned out today because it's too late to put the girls down for a nap and I don't trust them inside by themselves or outside under limited supervision. Aside from buckling poor Avery in her car seat, I don't think there's a way. I'll have to get it done tomorrow during nap time. Maybe I'll start packing instead. Yay!
04-13-2008, 06:46 PM
I'm in happy kitchen land. I've been wanting rice pudding and decided to make a SBD friendly brown rice pudding. I don't know how it will taste but it smells absolutely wonderful :)
And the sun finally came out!
04-13-2008, 09:06 PM
Yay for sun! I hope your rice pudding was good. I made some with brown rice in the crockpot awhile ago and it was delicious! The kids gobbled it up, which was good because otherwise I might have eaten the whole thing...
04-13-2008, 11:55 PM
I still need to clean litterboxes and get us ready to bed. Brian and I are both tired from our campouts but we had a wonderful time.
His dad didn't read my email about the campout dropoff being changed from 5:30 to 6 and had to wait with him awhile. Then he sent me a nasty email saying I didn't email him early enough. I sent it as soon as I got the adjustment from the troop leaders. Oh, well, Brian earned his Totem Chip and his Fireman's chip so he can now carry a knife and matches. They got back at noon instead of 1 as they were supposed to so I was glad I had my backup plan of having Eileen drop him at the house. I was back by one. Brian didn't have my cell phone number so they just called the house to say they would be early. By the time they called, it wouldn't have mattered anyway since I was still about 80 miles away.
I'm so glad I got to the event early on Friday. The course director and his mom (the cook) were trying to set everything up by themselves and she shouldn't be lifting the heavy stuff. So we put out wooden benches and two more truckloads of tables. By the time he could show me how to do registration at 4:30 we already had several families waiting (they were told to come after dinner but everyone likes to set up early if they can). Anyway, between 4:30 and 10:30PM we registered almost 200 boys and their families, collected medical forms and assigned them to campsites and groups. It was nonstop. I was brought dinner around 5 but didn't get to eat it until 10. Terri showed up around 5:30 to help with registration. Once we finally got done for the night we realized that we really needed to alphabetize the 450 medical forms or the medic would never find the forms so that took us until just after midnight. We were up Sat morning by 5 so we could be ready when the gates opened at 6. By 10 we were free to enjoy watching camp and didn't have much to do except serving food at the meals and we gave the worship service this morning that I had created a few weeks ago.
Since I thought Brian was going to be home at 1, I stayed until 11:15 to help them get all the food and supplies put back up. The dining hall is being replaced by an air conditioned one so we had to work out of a mobile kitchen. This weeks looks to be busier than last week but I'll check in as I can.
04-14-2008, 01:41 AM
thanks all for the warm thoughts.
Kara I think I may try to take a bike ride in the morning. I'll probably sleep in though...LOL. We'll see how I feel when I wake up, my hips have been sore the last few days. I keep having to take pain medication :(
Anyhow, a few more days and the running will be over, then I can relax and get back to taking care of our healthy eating habits.
I think we'll be starting over with P1 and then working from there...
Oh, I hope everybody likes the ticker...just did it :)
