I'm so excite. We have snow. :tantrum:
Wow, there was begging for food for the first time all week. I sure hope this means Luna cat is feeling a bit better. It's been a long week.
It's my first long weekend of the season. I'm supposed to meet my Mom for thrift store shopping. We each drive two hours and meet in the middle. She wasn't feeling too great last night, I hope she's up for it. If she can't make it today I might go thrifting anyway. The minute it gets warm I have -no- clothes to wear. Eek
 Cottage Thanks for the coffee!
Have a good day Jandaman :)
Okay, now for the ever important coffee!
04-04-2008, 08:04 AM
I'm wrapping myself around my coffee right now and Hershey is lying on my feet to keep me warm. The thermostat got turned down a tad too much last night.
Cottage, I hope today is a good one for you and Miss Maggie.
CindyM, want more snow? I still have some. I'm glad to hear Luna is getting her cattitude back.
Jandaman, I hope you have a good teaching day. You do have weekends off, right?
Today is a relatively "free" day except for another Donna visit. She thinks my brother is coming for the weekend but he had to postpone until month end. I'm letting her think it's still "on" just to see if she shows. My house will be spiffed up for the weekend and I just may throw a quickie dinner party. I'll see how much energy I have.
It's not sunny here but the snow is definitely melting! :cheer2: I hacked big sheets of 4" thick ice off my side walk yesterday and more should go today. The lake in my side yard is getting bigger. We need a week of sunshine, 50ºF and wind to dry it up.
Have a Fab Friday!

Quick hey....trying to beat the clock to work.
04-04-2008, 09:47 AM
Good morning everyone. Nothing much here. It's cloudy outside and alittle humid.
Ruth-Be careful with the sheets of ice.
EVeryone who has snow-stay warm. I wish it were snowing here. I hate the heat.
Me-I have a cake to do this weekend. I'm excited to do this one. Can't wait to get it done and over with though. My DS1 broke his glasses the other day and can't see very well at school. My poor child. DD didn't want to sleep last night. She stayed up with daddy till past 1 in the morning. For some reason she was scared to sleep by herself last night. When she finally fell asleep next to me, DH put her back to her bed. I heard her crying in the middle of the night though. But eventually went back to sleep.
Have a good day everyone.

:carrot: TGIF :carrot: It's a step closer to teh weekend and a busy weekend for me as tomorrow I am taking my mom for 1/2 day at the spa and then haircuts & coloring and then dh and i want to catch the baseball game that evening. Sunday is just as busy as it is my moms bday and we will go to church and then dinner reservations at Ruths Chris.
The scale was not nice to me this morning as TOM has it up a lb better luck next week.
Ruth :crossed: Donna shows up
Cyndi enjoy your time with your mom
Nessa sounds like your just as busy as me
Hello and good morning to everyone else as well as those still to come
04-04-2008, 10:09 AM
TGIF indeed, boy have I had a rough week, hence being MIA from here most of the week. Not much new to report just busy, busy, busy.
Sure have missed you gals although I have managed to sneak a peek every now and then.
Having a rough go with employees here, one got fired for several no shows, young guy with an apparent drinking problem, very sad as he had lots of potential. Have another lady who's whole demeanor changes like the flick of a light switch. She is almost scary. Why is good help so hard to find, especially given that state of umemployments rates lately?
Hope everyone is doing well, guess I should suck it up and go take the plunge into my day. Have a great one ladies!
04-04-2008, 10:23 AM
OOO, Gonna...Ruths Chris..yum!
The original one was close to where I grew up. It was just "Chris' Steak House" then. Then Ruth Fertel bought it in the 60's and changed the name and evntually expanded to other places. I remember when the original building burned. I think after she died, her family sold the business to a corporation.
Lots of good family "special occasion" memories at that old place!
04-04-2008, 11:10 AM
Cottage: :coffee: Thanks for waking us up this morning! Hope Maggie is still doing well and that you have a wonderful day!
jandaman: Have a good day - hope you see some sunshine as well! :flow2:
Cyndi: I hope Luna continues to improve. It's no fun having sick furbabies. Have fun thrifting - how wonderful that you need a whole new wardrobe for Spring! :woohoo:
Ruth: You are awesome!! I wouldn't believe that you'd just had knee surgery if I were watching you hack away at 4" of ice!! :lifter: Enjoy your "free" day!
Nessa: Wow! You have a lot going on! Enjoy Camelot - you'll have to give us a full report this weekend! (Lou Diamond Phillips - yum!! ;)) :ebike: How awesome that you're getting a recumbent bike for free - fantastic bargain!
, Cat! Have a great day!
tkglenn: Enjoy your cake-making this weekend. I'm going to try to make and nicely decorate a cake for a couple we know that just found out they're pregnant - I may have to PM you for some tips! Hope DD (and you and DH) get a better night's sleep tonight!
Gonna: Mmmmmm - Ruths Chris. :hungry: Enjoy your spa day tomorrow - sounds so luxurious and relaxing. :cloud9:
Pacer:  Hope things get better at work. We had the same sort of problem with one of our employees - we didn't find out until after she left that she had a drinking problem. Such a shame. Hope everything works out in the employee department for you!
Me: Things are going okay here. I was driven home early from work yesterday afternoon due to my Midol deciding to quit working. I ended up spending a majority of the evening on the couch watching TV and crocheting a lapghan for my grandma. That means that, in order to be ready for our new mattress tomorrow, I'm going to have to work my rear end off rearranging furniture tonight. Sigh. Oh well. I'm really looking forward to our new mattress, so it'll be worth it!
Dinner is leftover Taco Bake again - man that stuff seems to last forever! That will give me ample time to work out and work on the bedrooms without having to worry about cooking and dishes, so I don't mind one more night of it.
Well, off to work for me. I need to lay off of the coffee and get some water - I think I've just about OD'd for the day! Have a great day!!
04-04-2008, 11:16 AM
Cat thank you for sharing that with me as this will be mine & my moms first time going - hopefully we will bring back memorys as you have done.
Hi Kim good luck with getting in that water. I drank over a gallon yesturday and my dh said the scale is gonna be up as you have consumed 8lbs or more of water today - but I think I did pee it all out
04-04-2008, 11:39 AM
I survived my business trip and discovered The Cheesecake Factory's 6 carb Cheesecake (made with splenda). It was probably terrible for me but it tasted really good. :)
I didn't gain anything, I took a long hike up to the space needle when I was in Seattle, and overall had a good time. I'm back at work today, and exhausted. I'm not sure how I'll keep going!
Hope everyone has a great day!
04-04-2008, 11:48 AM
Good morning everyone. Getting a late start here... had to start out the morning shoveling out the chicken coop! LOL! No kidding. The floor of it finally thawed from the winter and it really needed cleaning RIGHT NOW. Now I have washed my hands but think a bath is in order instead. It's raining and damp out, and I slept poorly last night. I cheated while out to eat with DD (not my fault, they were out of what I usually order that's safe for me) and eating certain types of food gives me nightmares. (Fried foods) My body is an exercise in how many different ways what you eat can affect you! LOL!
Well, we have some fruit trees to plant this weekend, so I hope the rain lets up and we're not doing it in the drippy cold yuck we have today.
Mom & Dad came home from FL this week and brought ruby red grapefruits with them. YUM!!! What a breakfast treat that is - to have grapefruits that are so sweet they need no sugar. You just can't buy them up here.
Have a nice day y'all!
04-04-2008, 11:55 AM
Krystal your chicken coop story gave me a chuckle. What part of FL did your parents visit
04-04-2008, 01:45 PM
They're in some place called Mayberry, I think? No, that's Andy Griffith, isn't it? Whatever the name of it is, it always reminds me of Andy Griffith...
04-04-2008, 02:17 PM
Krystal I was just asking cause I live in Jacksonville (where Florida begins) I have never heard of Mayberry (just on Andy Griffith)
04-04-2008, 02:25 PM
I'm new to the community and thought I would get started in the general chat area, see if I could get to know a few of you.
Let's see....on my agenda...I'm a stay at home mom, so my day isn't very eventful.
Woke up this morning and made breakfast for the family. Hubs watched DS while I took a shower, and then he left for work and DS and I left for the park.
Came home to do my fly lady missions, and pick up the house quick for the weekend. Prepped dinner for tonight. When DS wakes up from his nap, I have to run to Target...
Anyway, I just started SB. I've found some great recipes, and have created a few of my own. My husband doesn't even know he's on the diet also!
04-04-2008, 02:37 PM
Hi Zeefryn and Welcome! Glad you found us. Your gonna love it here as this is a great group with lots of motivation & support.
South beach is great cause it doesn't feel like your eating diet food so good for you on getting your hubby to eat healthy. What is fly lady missions?
Be sure to post often.
04-04-2008, 03:09 PM
Hi zeffryn, glad to have you on the beach! You will find some fellow Louisianans (?) here, and fellow SAHMs too, so I'm sure you will have much in common with the great chicks that post here. I love flylady, she has helped me a lot, although I never seem to quite make it up to her lofty standards, I am much better than I used to be. However I have to admit my sink is not so shiny right now! :o
04-04-2008, 03:18 PM
Gonnabe- Flylady is an organizational tool. I was super organized before my husband and I had our son (partly because we were never home to clutter it up!) but as soon as DS was born....I knew I needed help. It took a lot of work the first few weeks, but eventually it became habit. I know it's easier b/c I'm a SAHM, but even when I don't have a ton of time, I still try to get the basics done. Google Flylady if you want more information.
Hubby and I have always eaten healthy....for the most part....I just seem to have more of a sweet tooth than he does. Plus, he has an overactive metabolism (jerk) and has trouble putting on weight (!!!) He's 6'5 and weighs 185.
Although he always requests some sort of carb with dinner, I just don't take the carb and double up on the veggies. He has always really liked the main dish though. He told me that he was surprised that it was diet food, because it definitely didn't taste like it. :)
Schmoodle- It is tough to meet her standards! There are quite a few nights that I forget to shine my sink, but I just do it before breakfast....because I've been sticking to the plan, there are never many dishes so it doesn't take too long :)
It's great to be here. It is nice to be going through this with other people. My husband has been a great support, but there is only so much he can do. I'm new to the area, so I don't have a ton of girlfriends yet. Hopefully that will come, but in the meantime....looks like I'm here to stay ;)
04-04-2008, 03:30 PM
Zeffryn thanks for the info as I had never heard of it maybe because the only kid I have is a furbaby. Glad to hear you are here to stay.
04-04-2008, 03:44 PM
No problem. It really is life-changing, and requires a lot of willpower......as does dieting.
So, I'm sitting here looking through recipes that I have and adapting them to the South Beach way of life. It isn't really that difficult once you've mastered what you can and cannot have.
Thankfully I'm a big fan of eggs. I don't know how I would do this if I wasn't.
Also, does anybody know whether or not protein drinks (specifically muscle milk light) are ok? I usually drink them for breakfast or lunch if I don't have time to sit down.
04-04-2008, 03:50 PM
Zeffryn be sure to check out the south beach recipe section as there are all kinds of great recipes to try. I'm not to sure about the muscle milk I guess it all depends on whats in it, maybe some of the others will have some knowledge on it.
04-04-2008, 04:03 PM
Mulberry, mulberry... that's it.
04-04-2008, 04:10 PM
Krystal Mulberry I have heard of that down by Winter Haven about 2 hours from me - is it anything like Mayberry?
04-04-2008, 04:12 PM
Has anybody tried the South Beach summer cookbook?
I have the original cookbook now, and was wanting to experiment with others.
04-04-2008, 05:13 PM
I don't know, I've never been to either!!!!
Airfare for 6 is too costly, and we can't exactly drive down in that timeframe. Plus, mom only has a 2BR trailer and it is NOT my idea of a vacation for all of us to be in the same bedroom!
04-04-2008, 05:25 PM
Oh my goodness golly gracious! HI GIRLS! I am finally fever-free! Still have a bit of a cough, but otherwise I'm feeling much better!
And Day 3 of Ph1, so far so good. I know I shouldn't be weighing myself every day but you girls know I'm a crackhead about that, so I have been, and I've already lost 5 lbs! HOT DAMN! My official WI will be on Wednesdays since that's when I started Ph1 but I seem to be doing ok so far!
I must say that it has been hard the first two days working in a place that has 8,000 kinds of candy to sell. I don't typically want candy, but I find myself going Mmmmm..... Mike n Ikes (I don't even like those.) Wednesday I was craving a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I don't ever eat peanut butter and jelly.
But today I feel a bit better. No cravings while I was at work today, and no headaches or anything goofy like that, and I'm still having Bathroom Celebrations every morning!!!! WOO HOO! I attribute them to Refried Bean Soup and the 2% cheese sticks that have the special bacteria to make you poop that I bought just for SB.
As for non-SB stuff, Tommy's son should (key word "should") be coming home tonight. Of course, his mother called and something happened so they may have to stop overnight and bring him the rest of the way tomorrow morning, but I'm praying that he comes home tonight. His room is almost done! Just have to pick up a book shelf and allllllllll his toys and then his room will be complete!
Better get some travel work done. Hope you girls have a great day!
04-04-2008, 06:02 PM
I'm baaack :)
My Mom wasn't feeling well but my friend and I were geared up to shop so we did! We brought her 5 year old granddaughter who went with us the first time when she was a few months old. She knows how to work a thrift store.
I just had to share my NSV day with all of you cuz I doubt I'd be at this point without you. I made a haul! All the capris are either 8 or 10 and the tops are mediums. I even picked up a pair of size 8 Old Navy capris that I have in storage in a size 20. It was -so- much fun trying clothes on. That was a new experience too! Instead of how much can I cover with this and is it too tight I was admiring how well things fit and how the 10s might actually be too small soon. I have never, ever worn an 8! Then I came home and modeled all my new clothes for my sweetie :) Just because I could!
04-04-2008, 06:18 PM
Congrats, Cyndi! That's a huge accomplishment! Wow!
I feel so inspired.
04-04-2008, 07:28 PM
:welcome3: to The Beach, zeffryn! We're happy to have you joining us!
Cyndi, Congratulations on your fantastic finds today, and :woohoo: for fitting into a smaller size! You are doing just super! :)
