I have a long day ahead, but I'm going to Curves first. I have to get to Cindy's by 8 though, so I can stay with Maggie while she drops Audrey off at school on her way to the clinic. Maggie is doing remarkably well and was in very good spirits yesterday, so I'm hoping today will be the same. We'll just make sure she gets her pain meds every 4 hours! ;) Her poor little face was all swollen from the surgery, but she didn't seem to mind. She was more interested in the giant teddy bear balloon and the Alvin & the Chipmunks DVD that I brought her. :)
04-02-2008, 07:28 AM
Ah, so glad that Miss Maggie is ok!! With her swollen little face, she can be the 4th chipmunk! I remember how scary it was when my daughter had surgury when she was little (I was preggers with #3 at the time too)
Morning not starting off too good. For some reason the dvd player on my computer is not cooperating and I can't get my exercise program to play. Grrrr. Will get son to take a look at it later to see what can be done and will have to put exercising off till this afternoon. Now I'm in a crummy mood. Another boring day ahead.
Hey, did ya'll catch Biggest Loser last night?? I am really sick of the "crying brothers". I told my husband it must have been a very soggy household when they were little. I certainly understand all the emotions, but jeez, the editors went a little overboard with the waterworks... got annoying after about the first zillion times we have had to watch them cry this season.
04-02-2008, 07:33 AM
temperatures have dropped and april showers have commenced..so much for the brief respite. i am still feeling a bit off--but new antibiotics seem to be doing their job.:halffull: oh, remember i tried to renegotiate my contract? well, my boss has taken the liberty of going on vacation until next week which leaves me stuck! i've got a job interview next week and was counting on knowing whether or not i am free to take it! *grrrr*what a petty little man!:halfempty
cottage: am so glad to hear maggie's recovering at light speed;) still wishing we had curves over here*color me green w/envy*
i am off for an extry dose of caffeine--can't seem to wake up today
:coffee2: happy humpday to all who follow!
04-02-2008, 07:36 AM
hi femme! we've simulposted yet again ;) hope u get ur dvd player fixed..vexing inanimate objects! and i couldn't agree with you more that the whole weeping bros thing is out of control. wah wah wah! plus the older one seems so incredibly overbearing/macho yet whiny at the same time. hard to take.
04-02-2008, 07:45 AM
Morning janda and Cat! I completely agree with you about the crying brothers! Jake and I were just discussing them last night, and how they turn on the waterworks with every little thing. I wonder if they live next door and check in with each other constantly in real life? It's really getting to be too much!
04-02-2008, 07:52 AM
Just a quick drop in this morning. We were up and down with our kitty alot last night. Now I'm just waiting until 7:15 to call the vet. I think they need to do her surgery now. Poor little thing is very uncomfortable.
Cottage - Glad Maggie is doing so well.
Janda - Hope the antibiotic keeps working and you continue feeling better.
Cat - The day can only improve :)
No matter how stressful today is - no more chocolate! Wonder if I can tattoo that on my forehead?!
04-02-2008, 08:28 AM
CindyM, just throw it out! I just pitched the remains of some candy that attacked me yesterday. I cannot resist liquorice babies! So sorry about your poor kitty. Let us know how things go.
Cottage Alvin and the Cs drives me nuts. My old ears cannot translate their talking. I hope you and Maggie have a good day.
Janaman, it may be April showers but you ARE in Europe. That boss of yours needs to be slapped! :cheer2: re the antibiotics.
Cat, I hope your techie stuff gets resolved fast. We can't have you grumpy. I don't watch Biggest Loser but know cry babies would drive me nuts.
I need to get my butt in gear. Claire is coming over soon to go through the "reject" fabrics from my sewingroom. The rest will be going to Goodwill - quickly, before I change my mind! I have fabrics I bought in 1974! We may discuss painting the sewingroom now that it's all cleaned up.
Have a great Hump Day!
04-02-2008, 09:25 AM
ruth- you know vintage fabrics are so hoppin' right now check this out: www.reprodepot.com maybe you'll recongnize something ;)
cyndi- fingers crossed on kitty's health..and i think chocolate consumed during kittyangst is neglible..freeze-dried mango strips are also v yummy and nerve-soothing!
04-02-2008, 09:38 AM
Ruth, what about selling the fabrics as a lot on ebay? 1974...hmmm, I started my second semester of college in January of 1974...they ARE vintage! What a great year that was.
04-02-2008, 09:56 AM
Good hump day morning to ya chickies! Today is suppose to be beautiful til evening time comes and brings in the thunder storms and rain showers.
Cottage glad to hear Maggies hangin in there
Cat I agree with you on the brothers. I told my dh they are worst than babys with all that crying they always do.
Good luck Ruth with all your fabric
Cyndi hope the kitty gets better
As for me today I will head to the clubhouse on my lunch break for some stair master time and then after work dh & I are going to do a workout video and then head to a friends for dinner (chicken divan)
Hello to all those to come.
04-02-2008, 10:11 AM
hi all! busy here as usual.
starting day 15 of my Beck work.. it's really neat stuff... today is monitor your eating day... no biggie for me.
the scale shows me UP 2 pounds this morning UGH... not sure why I was good with food yesterday ..... i hate this...
busy day at work then home and the rest of the week is similar.
friday is half a day because i have the dentist for a cleaning i hate the dentist. and then we are going to see Camelot!
04-02-2008, 10:40 AM
Morning chickies, just a busy getting-things-done day here today. Tomorrow I'll be on the road all day so won't get much done around here. DD's roommate's mother called me last night to discuss some issues with the apartment. She really gets me so irritated I couldn't get to sleep, and am still cranky this morning. I keep asking her to just email me the bills but she won't. Something about talking to her really rubs me the wrong way.
cottage, glad Maggie is doing well. It's just amazing how fast they bounce back from that kind of stuff when they're little!
Cat, I caught a few minutes of TBL after I tucked the kids in last night. I was cracking up over the waterworks. I have watched a little of this season and it seems every time I saw it, that big, touch male pride-on-three team was boo-hooing over something!
jan, good luck with the interview. Maybe they will make you an irresistible offer! In any case, it's fine to go to your boss with any offer they make and ask if your current company is willing to match it or make a counteroffer.
Cyndi, poor little kitty, hope all goes well! Chocolate will not help at all!
Ruth, I love to sew with vintage fabrics! Yes, they are hot, you should definitely ebay them!
Gonna, sounds like you've got a great on-plan day planned! Enjoy!
Nessa, glad Beck is working for you. I haven't tried anything yet. We went to see Camelot at Wolftrap last summer with Michael York as King Arthur. It was the first time I'd seen it - so good! The kids loved it.
04-02-2008, 10:44 AM
Ah, Cottage, you're so good to those little girls! What fun stuff you brought! I saw a tiny clip from the Alvin movie on a commercial yesterday--looked like they drank frappacinos and then they started bouncing (literally) off the walls! :lol3: That was hilarious! Just don't let Maggie talk you into giving her a frappacino! ;)
Hey, Cat! I'm with you on frustrating electronic problems that make no sense! Sorry that happened! about the crying brothers--I don't watch the show, but I can see how that can be a bit much.
Oh, Janda, that kind of pickle makes me crazy! I always make a bad decision when I have to try to guess what someone's going to do. Hope that the job interview people take a while to decide to offer the job to someone so you have time to figure out what's going on with your current job. :) Yeah, we have Curves here, but even if you can't make it to a Curves, the fact of it being around has driven several of our local gyms to create "30 min workouts" in competition. It's a shame you don't have that, either. Wonder if there is anything on the web that would help you create a workout like that at a local gym?
Cyndi, I'm so sorry about your kitty? What is her name? I'll keep her in my prayers. Good luck with the chocolate! Here's some :dust: and just in case that works, here's a sign to put up to remind yourself:
Ruth, have fun with Claire! :D I hear you on fabric--I have fabric I inherited from my mom, who might have bought them in the 60s...yikes! I'm such a fabric ho! :o I agree about selling the extra fabric on ebay--is there a strictly Canadian ebay? I have a LOT of quilting friends who buy fabric online...it could be very lucrative. But it could also take a lot of time that you could spend quilting...so maybe you're right to just chuck 'em! Do you have one of those places near you that would sell it on ebay for you? That might be the best of both worlds... :chin:
Gonna, we had chicken divan last night and I'm having it for lunch today. YUMMMM!!!! :T
Nessa, just focus on Camelot! :cloud9: What fun! I hear you on the scale. It's a totally nutty thing, so don't let it get to you, 'kay? I gained some 2 weeks ago and managed to lose the same amount this past week--even though I ate more off plan stuff this past week! Oy! What's the Beck work about?
Anyone see any more signs of spring? I saw a TON of snowdrops on my walk with the pup yesterday--and a couple of crocuses, too, though they were tightly furled up. I saw a cardinal and a couple of tulip leaves poking up. It was 60 and glorious, but we got snow overnight...something tells me it's gonna be a fairly slow start to spring. ;)
Did an hour of strength training yesterday (thanks for the fantastic motivation, Beachies! :grouphug: ) and it felt SO good! I made a schedule for the day and it worked out a lot better than my other days off have. I didn't accomplish a ton, but I did get a lot more done that I might have if I was all scattered. Off to the gym for cardio after work and then home...should be a slower-paced evening since we don't have any plans. I'm up for making dinner and I'm still working on my laundry. Otherwise, maybe we'll do some more work on the puzzle, which calls my name every time I walk by! ;)
 to all the chickies who post after (and simulpost)! Hope everychicky has a great day! :sunny:
04-02-2008, 10:45 AM
Schmoodle, Do you live near Wolftrap? Yet another reason I miss VA. My friend lived really near there one summer (in a no-roads, "commune" kind of neighborhood) and we went there. I love it!! When can I move back to VA???
On other notes...it seems to be warming up a little bit here. It is supposed to be 60 today and not rainy for the first time in several days. I am not feeling so well today. The morning sickness seems to be easing up but I have pretty bad cramps today and wish I could find someplace to go lay down. The nurse said it's just everything stretching down there, but these are more painful than they have been and that scares me of course.
Ruth, I would love to see some of your old fabrics. I wasn't even dreamed up in 74, my parents were still in high school! (Not that they got married too far out of high school!!) Next weekend we're going to WV for a wedding and my in-laws will be there; I think my MIL wants to look at fabrics for a baby quilt!
04-02-2008, 10:48 AM
Jessie, you should come visit at least!
I am in Maryland but it's not a bad drive. I'm in a great spot, out in the country, but easy access to DC, NoVa, Baltimore, PA, WVa, and the mountains.
Ruth, it's a great thing to have your stash organized and cleaned out. Great job! Since we're posting "where were you", in 1974, I was learning how to walk! LOL!
I don't watch TV but every now and then, so I haven't seen TBL. Reality shows drive me nuts, though I have been known to watch TBL once... I think it was when the big dude MOE was on.
ME.. I had a good OP meal this mornign (belgian pancakes). I bought some Quinoa last night - has anyone used that instead of noodles in chicken soup? MY DH has the flu, so I made some nice soup for him, but want to try the quinoa instead. If not, what are your favorite quinoa recipes?
I've got a lot of running around to do today. Got to get my morning chores done, packed up for the PO and library, then get myself moving. Might get a haircut in today if he has a slot open that's convenient to me.
04-02-2008, 12:22 PM
Hey everyone! Not as busy this morning - but still about to punch a wall! Things aren't on schedule - and that's my biggest beef with things around here. We have a state-mandated send-out date and we're going to miss it by at least 4 days. Argh! Can't wait for this weekend!
04-02-2008, 12:42 PM
Morning girlies! I'm home again. Went to open the store and still have a fever. The Zicam knocked out my cold symptoms for the most part, but the fever is making me angry. No more Zicam for me today though. Stupid sugar.
But, today is Day 1 of Ph1. So far, so good. Already had breakfast and my first snack. Going to make Taco Bake with fake meat tonight, and made a tomato/cucumber/mozz. salad last night, along with a broccoli/cauliflower casserole so I make sure to get my veggies this week.
Gonna lie down. Sorry no time for personals. My eyelids are burning. Hope you girls have a great day!
04-02-2008, 12:56 PM
Thanks, Nessa!!! That looks amazing! Do you feel it's helping you? (feel free to take this to PM if you want or feel it's too off topic) I've been searching for what feels like forever for a way to deal with the psyche/head/emotional part of losing this weight. I've tried OA, worked with several therapists and nothing, so far.
Thanks for making me feel young, Fluffy et.al. I was in utero in 1974. :D I feel awfully old lately, so it's good to know I'm at least in good company. ;) I love quinoa! I think it might get lost in soup--it's a very small grain. You might try Isreali couscous. It's a very big grain and super-yummy. As for recipes, I'll hunt around for some good ones when I get a chance, but check out www.myrecipes.com for lots of great recipes (I find Cooking Light's recipes are especially easy to convert to SBD). Just make sure you wash it first--quinoa has a slippery/soapy coating that you need to rinse off before cooking. I usually line a strainer with a piece of cheesecloth. It has SO much protein that it's a great choice for a grain!
Kim, I'm sorry things are so tough at work. It must be super-frustrating since it's out of your hands. I hope you can get through and maybe take out some of that frustration through exercise. I can imagine that you'd do exceptionally well in a boxing class right about now...
04-02-2008, 02:49 PM
I went to the clubhouse on my lunch break and did 31 minutes on the stair machine and now my hips & butt are screaming. Had a healthy lunch and now I am set to get the rest of my day done.
Hows the rest of your day?
04-02-2008, 03:03 PM
I'll play. In 1974 I was getting ready to start middle school. Just the age DS is now. Feel even younger now, Laurie?
I was going to upload a picture of our meatloaf and mashed potato April Fools dinner, but all my pictures have disappeared from the memory card on my camera!
Nessa, I have visited that part of the website. Not sure yet if I want to try it or not. Something in me seems resistant. Maybe because I usually hate that self-help psycho-babbly kind of stuff. But that's just me. If it is helping you or anyone else I think that's wonderful. Hope I never need to see a therapist, because I would make a horrible patient!
Sorry for the frustrating day at work Kim.
Fluff, I made a really good quinoa pilaf recently. I posted the recipe in the Phase 2 side dishes.
weezle, hope you were able to put your eyelids out. That sounds tough, starting Ph1 while you are sick. Feel better soon.
Gonna, good job on the exercise!
04-02-2008, 03:36 PM
I don't even think I was thought about in 1974 being as I was n't born til July of 77
04-02-2008, 03:50 PM
Good morning...ahem...I mean afternoon. I was up early, really, and even dressed and exercised and showered and dressed again by 7:30, but I didn't get to check in until now.
Linda, I'm so glad to hear Maggie is feeling better! Better you than me watching the Chipmunks all day. Ugh. They drive me bananas!
Cat, sorry about your computer being grumpy with your DVDs. That stinks! You could probably work up a sweat jumping around and yelling at it! Oh, I forgot...you're not into the jumping workouts...
Jan, I hope everything works out with the new job interview!
Cyndi, sorry to hear the cat isn't doing so well. Perhaps the vet will be able to fix her up sooner rather than later!
Ruth, I thought I was going to win the I-was-the-youngest-in-1974 game, but I think Jessie beat me. My parents were at least married (although I was -3 at the time!). GONNA, when's your birthday? I was born 26 July 1977!!!
Gonna, do you and your husband do exercise videos together? Tom did a Denise Austin pregnancy workout once with me. OK, he didn't REALLY do it, but he put in a couple of kicks and walks. It was funny!
Nessa, I'm glad Beck is working out well! Happy monitoring.
Schmoo, sorry about your phone woes. Next time, have someone ring the doorbell and tell her you have to go! My in-laws do that and it cracks me up!
Laurie, what kind of puzzle are you doing?
Jessie, have you tried any prenatal yoga? That really helped me with the aches and pains issues (and I had a lot!).
Krystal, if you want to use the quinoa in soup, I'd cook it seperately and then add it in right before you serve it so it doesn't get too soggy. I like mine with a little bit of a bite to it, kind of like barley if you know what I mean.
Kim, you're on the downside of the week now! Hope everything evens out for you!
Lisa, you could try just straight up zinc for your cold. That's what makes the Zicam effective anyway. The zinc strengthens your immune system.
We're having a nice, relaxing afternoon. The kids have AWANA tonight and I don't really have much to grab at the grocery store so I have to find a way to spend about an hour of time by myself this evening! I was thinking of looking for a coffee shop, grabbing a tea, and perusing my newest Runner's World. It's a much better option than Friendly's, which was the first thing that popped in my head! I just couldn't get past eating ice cream, even if it was NSA, while reading a running magazine...
04-02-2008, 03:57 PM
Good afternoon to you Kara glad you got the chance to check in - it's tough when you stumble upon a busy day. Yes my dh does do workout videos with me he is very supportive.
04-02-2008, 04:34 PM
Now I feel really old! In 1974 I was newly divorced, living in a town house with two kids 10 and 8, a lousy job and no fun except visiting FabricLand for the Buy One, Get Two Free sales. I guess that's why I have 6 yards of everything!
Claire took it all! It's a good thing I see her a lot or I'd be into grieving and/or withdrawal.
Just had a nice nap and woke to notice that The Spring Flood is starting. :yikes: My sump pump is running and water is turning my dog garden into a lake although there is still a ton of snow out there. The Upper and Lower Lakes have had their water level lowered by about three feet to get ready for the melt. My lakes are part of the Rideau Canal system so the extra water goes into Lake Ontario. Look out Toronto!
04-02-2008, 04:38 PM
ruth i'm older than your kids... and clearly remember 1974 although my DH was only 3 that year....
04-02-2008, 07:58 PM
Okay I'm in the Nessa - Schmoodle range :) And you two rock so I feel much better!
04-03-2008, 12:54 AM
I was 11 in 1974 so I was in middle school. I may have a 10 year old but my baby sister has a 25 year old!
I've been in a workshop at work all week. I don't have a computer connection all day and I've been rushed in the mornings and at night with catching up with my work and scouting. I did finally post the Exercise Queen tonight so if a mod could sticky the April Exercise thread, it would be appreciated.
Robert just dropped Brian at gymnastics tonight so I didn't get a chance to find out if he will drop Brian off for the New Scout campout. I did find one of the moms at gymnastics that said she could pick him up at 5 so it should be possible but rushed if she does it. She's never been to his school and I'd have to get her set up with his day care so it would just be easier if his dad would help but I never know how he will react to anything. I'll see him on Saturday when he comes to get Brian from the Robotics competition so I can ask him then.
