I have Oxford Liberty plan and my insurance will cover surgery. They say all I need is a medical necessity letter from my doctor. The woman from Oxford was saying that was it. Did anyone deal with Oxford when getting their band? Is it as easy as it sounds? If you've dealt with them, please share your experience. Thanks!
Usually insurance companies won't cover your surgery unless you have approx 100 lbs to lose and medical issues. Usually your BMI is around 40+ or so.
I don't know what Oxford requires, so you'll have to ask them as each plan is different.
Good luck.
Yes, you are correct. My insurance will pay for it if your BMI is 40 or over. Mine is. If your BMI is between 35-39.9, then you have to have certain medical issues. I just wanted to know if there was anything else I'd need with Oxford.
Each plan is different...some require 6 - 12 months of supervised weight loss by a doctor, etc. its really hard to say what they want. My plan wanted 6 months and a bunch of medical screening from blood work to going for a psychological exam.
i had oxford way back when - and they only covered gastric bypass, and excluded lap band. but i haven't had oxford for several years, so i have no idea if they've changed their little minds about the lapband.
