Does it Work? - I Can Make You Thin - Paul McKennaView Full Version : I Can Make You Thin - Paul McKenna Hat Trick 03-06-2008, 10:20 AM Does anyone know anything about this book? Apparently they are making it into a tv show on TLC (I think TLC) starting March 16. Was just wondering if anyone had any info on this latest wt loss, ah, 'guru'? a broad abroad 03-06-2008, 10:38 AM He's been around a while in the UK. He also helps people stop smoking, get confidence, etc. Ask the chicks in the FChicksUK community what they know. seranab 03-06-2008, 11:24 AM Hey there! I own the book and the cd. Its quite interesting and to be honest he doesnt tell you anything that we don't know already. The difference is... is he tells you in a way you haven't heard it before. The cd is quite good, quite relaxing. His main key point is... 'eat slowly and be in touch with your body.' So basically, when you're eating slowly and your in touch with your body - you know when you're full and stop eating. ddc 03-06-2008, 12:35 PM I have the book and cd. I'm actually rereading it right now. His ideas are pretty basic: 1: When you are hungry, eat. 2: Eat what you want, not what you think you should. 3: Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful. 4: When you think you are full, stop eating. So, very no nonsense stuff. Something we all know to do, but don't follow through on:). What's really weird to me is that the first time after I listened to the cd, I only wanted to drink water. I was addicted to drinking Crystal Light Tea before that, and after the CD I didn't even want to drink it at all. That was about 3 weeks ago. Now, for the eating part. It was kind of strange for about a week and a half, I had no urge to snack and really didn't feel hungry even at meal times. I lost maybe a pound in that week and a half. Then the next week was the week before my period and I was ravenous, so I started snacking again. So, I don't know if the "magic" has worn off or not. Maybe I'll feel that way again after this week?? I'm really excited to see that he has a show coming on here in the US. If you order the book, make sure you get the 2007 updated version and that it has the cd with it. Donna realitymom 03-06-2008, 02:47 PM Very cool! I came here looking for info on this fella, as I saw the commercial for his show coming to TLC the 16th. Figured this would be the best place to find out about him & his system. I went to a hynosis seminar for weight loss about 5 years ago. It was very interesting & as I learned I am very suceptible to hypnosis, a bit freaky! LOL A friend & I went half & puchased the cassette hypnosis tapes & they worked to rid my cravings pretty well. My eating habits improved as well as motivation & a positive outlook towards my health & exercise. Then we moved, I lost the tape & well, my old lifestyle resumed. Hoping our library carries this book so that I can check it out & sample the CD before dropping any money on it. My family budget keeps me VERY careful as to what I spend. (stay at home...no income, but lotsa love & extra time with my babies! More than a fair trade! ;) ) BitterSweetAsphyxia 03-12-2008, 04:45 PM I've also been interested to see what his show is all about. We all know that you can lose weight by adopting a new mindset, it's just a lot easier said than done. ddc 03-13-2008, 11:28 AM Don't forget-this Sunday at 9pm eastern on TLC. I've got my dvd and vcr set (I have to work :( ) There is a short clip on youtube of one of his shows (just do a search). One of the techniques is to imagine eating one of your favorite foods-the example is chocolate cake-and then imagine it crawling with maggots. It's not so appealing then. He also teaches techniques when you are craving something, to tap your collar bone, under your eye, on the back of your hand. It's supposed to retrain your brain. ddc 03-17-2008, 11:37 AM Did anyone watch last night? The shows are going to be repeated, in case you missed it. I liked the part where he had a group of people at a diner eat blindfolded and their stomachs told them when they were full and they stopped eating. Most of us eat with our eyes and stop eating when the food is gone. I think he has lots of good advice. DCchick 03-17-2008, 11:50 AM I watched last night. I just stumbled across it, I hadnt read this thread or ever heard of him. I actually liked it. It kind of makes sense. my boyfriend eats WHATEVER he wants, but he eats REALLY REALLY slowly and does not eat alot at one time and he's in AMAZING shape. I'm going to try Mckennas techniques for a week. I bought a bagel with cream cheese this morning (something I never do b/c i'm not 'supposed to eat it') I ate about half of it this morning around 9am and did not do anything else while i ate (i usually return emails, work, etc, when i eat breakfast). i just got hungry now (about 2hrs later and took another few bites. Before I would have scarffed down the whole bagel in 15min. so we'll see. there's nothing crazy about his techniques (i.e. he's not telling you to starve, or overeat, or eat only certian foods) so i'll give it a whirl for 7days JoJoJo2 03-17-2008, 11:54 AM I watched the show last night and found it very interesting. A review of the basics is always good. I eat too fast, so today I will practice putting my fork down between each bite. I plan to watch each and every show. It is a good reminder of what we need to do. mkmacphee 03-17-2008, 12:20 PM My daughter and I are trying out his ideas - we both have about 20-25 lbs to lose. So far we ate breakfast without reading. Paid attention to our food.Put the spoon down between bites. I didn't finish what I would usually eat for breakfast. It's certainly worth a try. My difficult time is evening so we'll see how it works then. I don't have the book so I'm just going with his 4 rules. I noticed that the book is sold out on Amazon. Not surprising. cbmare 03-17-2008, 06:34 PM I was pretty much doing what he suggested already. However, I don't keep the TV off. That is some of the things that boobalah & I do together. We record and watch shows while we are eating dinner. I do eat slowly and only 1 bite at a time. I must remember to put the fork down between bites. Wonder what next week will bring us. Musicgal 03-24-2008, 04:07 PM I stumbled upon the first show (I guess it was repeated) last night. It seems like behavior modification techniques. I have learned these techniques many years ago, but don't always follow them. I like the part of eating whatever you want, not what you think you should. For years I have been eating what I think I should in the morning and for lunch, then in late afternoon I eat candy or a not-so-healthy item (on impulse or unconsciously), a fairly healthy dinner and some more "should-nots". Now I will try to be more conscious and adapt these four rules. It's a coincidence that I am also participating in Oprah's book club and have been watching the webcasts on "A New Earth". They brought up the subject of unconscious eating in the last webcast (chapter 3). That book is about becoming more aware and living in the now. It does make a lot of sense. MamaToTomAndAlex 03-25-2008, 07:44 PM I just (as in about five minutes ago) finished his hypnosis CD for the "I can make you thin" ... and he's really good with regards to the hypnosis aspect of it. :) I listened to a bunch of this sort of thing when I did hypnobirthing and he's great. I was lying there half way through thinking I was totally alert and listening to everything he said when I suddenly realised I had no awareness whatsoever of my body anymore. The only thing I was aware of was his voice and my breathing. So freaky I had to move my feet to make sure they were still there.... I'm curious to see how it works :) I'll let you know :) ddc 03-26-2008, 09:20 PM I had a really weird experience one night while listening to it. I felt like I was leaving my body. It scared me and I had to move also to make sure I was still "there". realitymom 03-27-2008, 07:10 PM I have been following Paul's techniques for 9 days now & I feel like a new person! I do not understand how something so simple works, but it absolutely does! I want to get his book w/ CD but it is sold out everywhere. I am down 5 pounds, my craving for candy has been completely eliminated(thanks to the Crave Busting Technique) & I feel fabulous! ToM arrived a couple days ago with NO cravings, NO cramping & MILD mood swings. I literally feel like I am living in someone elses' body & I LOVE it! Anyone else having this much positive success? Hope so! Just wanted to add that I LOVE mamatoTomandAlexs' siggie...with your name & pictures of your boys...beautiful! ddc 03-28-2008, 10:41 AM Hey realitymom, good for you. I think the techniques are fabulous!!!! Paul has a website and it says the books are going to be available in the US soon. There are alot of frustrated forum members there saying they're having trouble ordering and why would these shows be on if you can't get his book here? I ordered my book on ebay a month or so before he even came on here in the US, and paid $18.95 for it. The same seller is now selling them for $49.95!! I'd say wait til you can get it in the US for a decent price. Most everything in the book is on his website (mckenna.com). The only thing is the CD that comes with the book. I think it has helped me more than the book itself. Keep up the good work. I really feel it is a life changing program. StillTryin 03-28-2008, 01:14 PM I watched the show and tried some of the ideas he had....well Most of us eat with our eyes and stop eating when the food is gone. I AGREE, I was having breakfast just this morning, 2 eggs and (2) 1 oz pieces of ham, well I was reading the paper (kinda), but I wasnt looking at my plate, but I did put my fork down between bites and I was consciously thinking about what I was eating, well I felt pretty full, and looked down, well geez I bet I barely ate 1/2 of my food! I was pretty surprised, I was eating SLOW and chewing for a long time.....So I really think there is something to what he says. OhCharlie 03-28-2008, 03:46 PM All I can say is judging from my own experience, he's on to something. Granted it's nothing new, but this is what I've been searching for without even knowing it. For me, IT'S NOT ABOUT THE FOOD! I could have a PhD in nutrition and dieting based on all the books I've read/diets I've been on for the last 30 years. At this point in my life I want OUT of the diet mentality. I want to have a healthy relationship with food and not angst every time I go into a restaurant trying to mentally calculate WW points or carbs or whatever.. and feeling bad and ultimately bingeing. I've ordered the 6-DVD set ($119) and I'm looking forward to starting down this path once and for all. There's a lot I need to re-learn. Just my .15 cents worth!! OhCharlie 03-28-2008, 06:48 PM Forgot to add this to my sermon (ha ha!): I've been following the 4 Golden Rules for the last couple of days. Just exactly as they are explained. And I have to tell ya...I'm eating WAAAY less. I am getting back in touch with what hungry feels like and what satisfied feels like. And I'M NOT EATING LOADS OF JUNK! I'm eating what I really want. This is so liberating to me... If anyone would like to buddy up, let me know!! Barb Sweetcaroline 03-28-2008, 07:14 PM Hi all, I watched the show with the "tapping" technique. I was not having a great day... baked brownies for Easter, need I say more... I had brownies and milk all ready, sat down, clicked around a bit on the TV, landed on his show... He was just starting to explain the "tapping" technique... I followed his instructions, did it along with the audience, and it :censored: worked !! I didn't want the brownies/milk anymore... I didn't care about them anymore.. WEIRD... very weird... within 2mins I was throwing the stuff away... I've been tapping away my cravings every since, works 90% of the time for me... There are step by step instructions and quick video (free) on the tapping on his website Paul McKenna.com or the TLC link... its worth trying it... I was amazed. I don't want to think about why/how it works right now. I'm just doing it.......... check it out.... OhCharlie 03-29-2008, 08:42 AM I'm just loving this feeling of not being so food-obssessed. It's like being released from a prison! Barb Sapphdia 03-30-2008, 07:07 PM I DVRed his show, because I just can't miss the Tudors tonight. :D:D:D My mom and I are going to watch it and try to implement his ideas. When I first saw the show last week, I figured that I would give it a try, but I hadn't seen the whole thing, so I wanted to make sure that I had all of the information that I needed to continue. In my introduction here, I told everyone that I go to the gym regularly and I can tell a difference in my body in terms of toning and whatnot, but the number on the scale really isn't moving. I realize that muscle weighs more than fat and all, but I still need to lose weight and not just shift it around to some unused part of my body. SO, I say all that to say, that I need to work on my eating habits. It is soooo difficult! I can't diet! I can't say, "No, you can't have that." If I have to do that to lose weight and keep it off, it will never work for me. I need to do something where I am not counting points, or calories or serving sizes, or obsessing about what I eat and how much. This seems like the perfect solution where I can eat what I want, but do it in moderation and naturally stop when I am full instead of force myself to stop when I am starved. :soap: Man, it feels good getting that frustration off of my chest! :sumo: Amy8888 04-01-2008, 04:35 PM Hi everyone. I've been watching too, and I wanted to say how similar this is to Intuitive Eating. So if you're interested in learning more, there's a thread called "Intuitive Eating" in the General Diets forum. (I just sort of discovered that about a month ago, then I started watching this show and it was like a perfect overlap). Also, for those of you eager for his book, you might be interested in other books on Intuitive Eating. Go to Amazon and do a search for Intuitive Eating. pattygirl63 04-03-2008, 03:19 PM Hi, I too am an Intuitive Eater, but I was having trouble with cravings. I always was what I call a taste eater. I often wanted food b/c it tasted good. I stumbled across McKenna's show Saturday morning when looking for something to watch while eating late breakfast. I did the techniques with the audience. I had a big problem with Heath bars. I never was much of a sweet eater and NEVER liked this candy, but DH loves them and has them sitting by him all the time. He's thin. Any way I did the technique to get rid of the craving. I still can't stand the thought of eating one b/c I feel sick even writing about them. I've only seen the one show and I don't get hungry. One day I went so long without eating I got the shakes. I finally realized that I don't know how to recognize real hunger b/c as I said I ate for taste and also because most diets tell you how much to eat and some even tell you when such as every 3 - 4 hours. I joined his website and downloaded all the info and I am now trying to learn to eat when I am slightly hungry but not ravenous or starving. Neat thing happened yesterday. DH and I ALWAYS go out to eat when he goes to the doctor and gets refills on meds. We went to Walmart to get meds and 1st biggy accomplishment is we left the store without any food items (don't remember ever doing that. As we walked out, he asked me where I wanted to eat and I had to say "I don't know. I'm not really hungry". He wasn't hungry either so we came home and I fixed him what he wanted when he got hungry. Then when I got hungry I only had roasted chicken and a salad. I love salads; always have and I am finding that is pretty much what I want to eat. Sorry this is so long. I loved it when I learned about Intuitive Eating, but I was really having trouble with the cravings. Now I am following the McKenna techniques to it, I am excited that I now have a way for it to work for me. It completes what I need to be in control of my eating habits. They do go together very well. No more measuring, counting calories or points and when I go out to eat with family and friends (vacation next week) I don't have to worry about where we are going to eat or if their food is going to fit o work around or with my "diet" plan. All that stress and anxiety is gone. "Free to eat normal", but sensibly and healthy. I already love "healthy" foods. Altari 04-03-2008, 07:45 PM I started watching this a while back, and hubby finally convinced me to try it. I haven't weighed myself, but I feel "free" from food, like others said. Since I'm now very aware of when I'm full, I don't "emotionally eat". My mind tells me "No! I'm full! SRSLY back away from the Lays! No more room at the inn!" On the downside, I end up in the bathroom crying my eyes out about as often as I'd emotionally eat. >< We went to the Chinese buffet today. Bite, fork down, chew, swallow, water (to rinse the taste). Repeat until I was full. My mother wouldn't stop with the questions! Are you sick? Is there something wrong with the food? Is your stomach upset? Do your teeth hurt? Does you jaw still hurt (note : I had a flare up of my minor TMJ a few weeks ago)? Are you depressed? ARG!!! Mother I'm fine!!! Instead of my usual 2-3 plates worth of food, I only ate half a plate (in twice the amount of time). Craziness! NightengaleShane 04-04-2008, 04:34 AM Wow, this thing sounds amazing! I keep meaning to catch this show but then I continuously forget. :( Even though I am technically thin now (and in great shape thanks to intense exercise), I still eat WAY too quickly. I have been inhaling my food since I was a kid. I grew up without much money and there were plenty of hungry times, so I always associated food with pleasure. Whenever there was an abundance of food in the house, I ate as much as possible of everything I loved because I wasn't sure how long it would be around. Unfortunately, this pattern transferred into adulthood and while I was thin in my teen years (I remember eating entire 10 oz bags of party mixes - those MUNCHIES sure were DELICIOUS, huge boxes of candy, fast food, and yup - I still was skinny ), I got fat once I hit 20. Now, I carefully watch what I eat, but that does not stop me from gobbling my food like a little piggy! ;) Thanks to everyone for posting the fork tip... I will definitely have to try putting my fork down after every bite and washing it down with water. :D scoobie74 04-05-2008, 09:22 AM I watched the show last night and could not believe of how it worked! I am going to catch the next show. I think that it is really going to help. realitymom 04-05-2008, 07:06 PM Congrats on your amazing weight loss NightengaleShane! You look beautiful & happy, can't ask for more than that! The ICMYT techniques really are amazing in how EASY they are to follow. It really makes so much sense, enough that it perturbs me that all this time I have been trying one diet after another, with no success & this NON diet program works BETTER! *sigh* Ah well, at least I have finally found something that works for me now! Down another 3 pounds(for a total of 8) & full steam ahead. It's nice to see & feel positive results from something that is so simple. Talk about a stress reliever! lol Best wishes all! ~RM sjm1027 04-06-2008, 11:39 PM I have the book and cd. I'm actually rereading it right now. I'm really excited to see that he has a show coming on here in the US. If you order the book, make sure you get the 2007 updated version and that it has the cd with it. Donna Hi Donna, I am a new member and wanted to thank you for your post on Paul McKenna. I have been watching him and now I will order this book. I have been wondering if this was just bunk or not. Seems to me to many people take advantage to overweight people, we seem to be easy targets I guess. So thanks again... I will order the book tomorrow and give it a go. Tomorrow morning I will wake up and start thinking about everything i am doing. Is this a meditation CD or is it like his TLC show? Thank You, Steve ddc 04-07-2008, 01:10 PM Hi Steve, I'm not sure of the status of ordering the book right now. I got mine on ebay when it was a reasonable price. Since he's been on tv, it seems that the sellers have gotten a little greedy and increased their prices. It says on his website that the book will be available in the US soon. I'm not sure how long "soon" is though-lol! The cd is a hypnosis/relaxation cd. He talks you through visualizing yourself thin, remembering happy times and seeing yourself happy and active, etc. It's about 25 min long and I usually fall asleep sometime during it. I think you still hear it even though you might me asleep. Something has clicked in my brain about eating. So, I think it has worked for me. There's a forum at his website also (mckenna.com). Best wishes, Donna Bunnababy 04-07-2008, 04:44 PM Hi: I've seen all the shows so far. I kept thinking that this is too simple, I've known about intuitive eating for some time but never how to deal with the emotional part of it. Also used EFT for headaches and other minor pains along with hypnosis. I used hypnosis a few years ago for weight loss and it was going great and then the hypnotist was in an accident and I haven't found anyone I liked as well as her. :( I am going to give this a try even though it sounds to simple to be true. Hope everyone has a good day. Remember the "four golden rules." Ann72 04-13-2008, 11:50 AM Hi--Just wondering if anyone is still following this and having any success? I caught the first show and thought it made sense. I've had success before using Intuitive Eating. Looking for some folks to share their progress. Thanks, Ann realitymom 04-13-2008, 01:24 PM Hi Ann! I am still using Paul's techniques(4weeks on Tuesday!) & still having great success. I have messed up a few times, but this time, when it happened, I didn't do what I have done in the past-- get depressed, say 'Screw It!" & go on a binge because I had 'failed'. This time, I just said, "Ok, no problem, I will get back on track next time I feel hungry"...& I do! People are noticing that I am losing weight! I have lost 8 pounds so far, and have gone down a pants size, which normally doesn't occur this early in weight loss for me. (w/ my 6ft frame, I tend to have to lose about 15lbs before I notice a drop in pants size) I am walking 30 minutes at least 4 times a week(plan to increase it to daily) & also plan to increase the time as I build my endurance. I still feel great & my attitude is so positive & upbeat. It still amazes me how EASY these techniques ARE! Hope you are having success as well! ~RM ddc 04-13-2008, 06:46 PM My pants are alot looser. Paul's techniques are what I needed to jump start my weightloss. I have had a few binges, but not too bad. Sometimes it's hard when I get home from work from a really stressful night and I just want to eat chips!! I eat my chips and get right back on it the next meal. I just love it! meggy 04-13-2008, 11:01 PM Hi Ann! I just wanted to let you know that I've followed the golden rules for 4 weeks and I've lost 9 pounds! (I have to change my ticker!) :) I'm also exercising 5 times a week (elliptical and Turbo Jam). My body is changing so fast! It's definitely my greatest motivation to continue! I have to say that eating this way and exercising have been surprisingly easy!!! Good luck on your weight loss journey! Meggy PinkyPie 04-14-2008, 04:18 AM So, I've dug out my ICMYT CD and the book is somewhere around the house... while I feel pretty good about what I'm doing already, I'm not against a little mental help! How long has the show been running on US television? Was it on UK television as well (just wondering if I'll be able to download it...) ddc 04-14-2008, 12:11 PM Last night was the 5th and final episode. I'm going to miss it :( There were repeats scheduled, and now they aren't showing on TLC's website. Maybe the ratings weren't as good as they had hoped? Truffle 04-17-2008, 01:46 PM subscribing to the thread Ann72 04-18-2008, 04:19 PM Thanks to all of you for your replies. I did well with the 4 rules for a couple of days, but then we had out of state guests for a few days and everything went out the window. I'm trying to get started again. I just found a monthly ICMYT thread here on 3FC. If you haven't seen it already, come check it out. wendyland 06-21-2008, 11:40 PM Anyone still use the techniques? Any success? The shows definitely helped me slow down and savor my food when eater, but it hasn't really helped when I want something I'm craving. I find that I don't want to stop the craving, so I don't do the techniques. I still have them all on my DVR & have been thinking about watching them again. ddc 06-22-2008, 11:35 AM I've quit with the techniques also. I was thinking of rewatching the dvds. I got to my goal weight and kind of relaxed and now I find the weight starting to creep back on. I've been wondering also if anyone is still having continued success. Best wishes :) jazzmegirl 08-25-2008, 12:35 PM Hi. Anybody out there still doing this? Is there a McKenna thread? I'm currently doing I.E., but think this will help a lot. I just ordered the five CD set. A buddy would be great. I'll check out the oher forums too. Amie Dedee62 09-06-2008, 08:39 PM I've been practicing his techniques for 12 days now and am down 9 lbs. Love eating whatever I want. Will NEVER go on a diet again. cher37 09-08-2008, 03:54 PM I just turned the tv on & watching the Mom Show & he was on it & he just said this, which I think makes a lot of sense: "look around your house - the food in the kitchen, the clothes in your closet - and ask yourself "is this going to help me achieve my goals, how I want to look/feel?" if it doesn't, get rid of it" & I'll add this, "live in victory, not in defeat!" cheers ladies! recidivist 12-22-2008, 12:11 AM 1: When you are hungry, eat. 2: Eat what you want, not what you think you should. 3: Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful. 4: When you think you are full, stop eating. So, briefly, what are the techniques to change what you 'want' if it's all the wrong foods? Like high fat and salt? Also, does anyone else have trouble knowing when they are full? I have reflux, and nervous stomach, and even after I've eaten enough, I still actually feel hungry, because it's hard to tell the difference between hunger pangs and nervous stomach pains. I love the concept, but am not sure it would work for me. sjm1027 12-22-2008, 06:24 AM In April I went to a Hypnotist, because of the same questions you have with Paul's technique. I have lost 93 pounds and still going strong. It's not the food it's the mind... Once you get in touch with your mind the rest will fall into place. I do self hypnosis every evening. I was so impressed with hypnosis I became a certified Hypnotist. Just know you have to want it... So be good to yourself, go see a hypnotist and get it done right. Good Luck, Steve kari1980 12-25-2008, 06:33 AM I use hypnosis cd's from time to time. They really do work but sometimes I'll just stop myself from listening to them. I swear, it's like self-sabatoge :( sjm1027 12-25-2008, 07:49 AM I know what you mean... If it works for you then you should schedule the time for yourself. It changed me so much, in my self hypnosis I talk about wanting to exercise, enjoying my exercise time... I look forward to it. Yesterday XMas Eve day I worked out for 60 minutes, in my past I never did that... I would never think about that... Today, Christmas Day, My priority is my workout of course family then making sure I work out and some self hypnosis before I head over to my sisters for Dinner... I guess you have to make sure you do what you need to get it done. Good Luck Steve Janga 12-25-2008, 10:35 AM I have no comment on self-hypnosis and I personally think the eat what you want and stop when you are full type philosophy isn't as useful as weight loss programs based on data like calorie counting but everyone has different thoughts and beliefs on that subject. The reason I actually am commenting here is that the "Beck Diet Solution" by Judith Beck (daughter of man known as the "father" of behavioral therapy) is really excellent in providing concrete behavioral modalities for people seeking to lose weight. There is an active thread on this forum but I don't know if it is presently discussing the book itself, but I'd personally recommend picking it up and reading it and implementing some of the strategies if interested in behavior modification regarding food. sjm1027 12-25-2008, 11:01 AM I would never be against what anyone is trying to lose weight. What works for me may not work for you... it's all good. All I know is we are in the same boat and our lives would be better if we lost weight... so keep on trying until you find what works for you. Happy Holidays Steve Janga 12-25-2008, 01:14 PM Happy Holiday, Sjm1027! me4life 12-25-2008, 01:51 PM i have never heard of this but sounds very interesting i may look into it recidivist 12-25-2008, 03:24 PM The reason I actually am commenting here is that the "Beck Diet Solution" by Judith Beck (daughter of man known as the "father" of behavioral therapy) is really excellent in providing concrete behavioral modalities for people seeking to lose weight. Thanks Janga. That's one I would really like to check out. ddc 12-25-2008, 07:38 PM I don't know if I can explain the eat what you want, stop when you're full thing, but I'll try. Paul's premise is that we eat entirely too fast, so we don't really register that we're full. If you slow down, enjoy what you're eating, putting your fork down between bites and chewing at least 20 times, you can notice when your stomach is full--you're more "in tune" with your tummy, instead of just gorging yourself and eating with your eyes. He did a study where he took a group of people to a diner and let them order anything they wanted for breakfast. Most of them ordered huge breakfasts-eggs, toast, hashbrowns, etc., and finished all the food. The next day they went to the same diner, but this time they were blindfolded. Most of them left food on their plates because they stopped eating when their stomachs said that they were full. So the idea is to "feel" your stomach getting full, not just eating to clean your plate. (This may be somewhere earlier in this thread--I didn't check) realitymom 12-31-2008, 03:06 AM I am still loosely following Pauls' guidelines, but got pregnant in May of '08 (after successfully losing almost 30lbs with this method!!) & am due in February. My biggest struggle is LACK of appetite. So far, I have not gained any weight & am still 2 lbs less than when I got pregnant. My biggest challenge is focusing on food when I DO eat. I get distracted too easily. But, when I force myself to focus, I eat about half of what I normally would. (mind you, this baby isn't leavin a whole lot of room for my stomach as it is! LOL) I really wanted to brush up on the crave busting technique, but the site with the video of the technique is no longer free & requires a membership. No thanks, I'll try to remember it on my own. Plus I have the book & CD so that decribes the techinique, I think. Happy New Year to all! SisuInWI 12-31-2008, 09:36 AM Just wanted to say that I've found something that works for me - Think and Lose cd's, which is self-hypnosis like what Steve was mentioning. I didn't go to a hypnostist like he did though, I just purchased the cd's, watched and listened as they recommended and it addressed the food issues that are in my mind. Which is where I know the problem has always been. I was skeptical at first of course, but it works. For me anyway. Good luck to everyone in finding what works for them and have a Happy New Year. SaneSally 01-30-2009, 04:49 AM Hi All! I'm new here!! I have decided after reading Paul McKenna's "I can make you thin!" that this is the thing for me. After a history of eating disorders, I no longer want to be restricting myself and in the loop of dramatic restriction followed by starvation (I am now a healthy weight btw), followed by binging and compulsive eating. I just want to be healthy and trust food again. I was looking around his website and he says that the plan is perfect for people like me. So here I am writing to you guys for support and advice! I'm hoping you'll see a lot of me around here. I started a few days ago, and what I found so great was not having to worry about the food that I put in my mouth. I was excited by the fact that I really wanted croissant for breakfast and could have it without feeling guilt. I hadn't eaten one for over 5 years!!! It tasted so good. What I am finding difficult however, is the whole 'eat whatever you really WANT'. I'm finding that when I'm really hungry so that my stomach is rumbling, I often am not sure what I want. I can not really tell too well. Does anyone have any tips for pinpointing exactly what you want? Thanks for any info!!! Fantastic, the bottom line is, what ever works for you is the right thing to do Good Luck Steve sjm1027 01-30-2009, 06:22 AM Welcome Sally, good to see you here. Good luck with your journey and help us get some life into this thread... we can all do better if we help eachother. Steve SaneSally 01-31-2009, 03:13 AM Hi All. I decided on the first of Jan when I started cutting back on certin foods and being careful what I put in my mouth, eating more protein etc, that on 31st Jan, I would weigh myself. At this point, I had not yet started the Paul McKenna system, and have only been doing this for a few days. However, today is weigh day and I'm pleased to say....I've lost half a stone!!! Very very pleased with myself at this moment in time!!! :) That's 7lb!!!! Yey!! I had a small cube of marzipan this morning in celebration. It really was small, and although I ate it in a conscious way, enjoying the flavour, texture etc, I'm sorry to say that I wasn't actually hungry. I had just had it because I wanted to have a small treat for my loss. I feel really bad now!!! But I'll be right back on track with my conscious eating and only eating when hungry, and down to the gym later :) zandralexia 02-10-2009, 05:12 PM dont feel bad about treating yourself deprivation is never the answer anyway cause you'll end up cheating. Well good luck i have just got this book and the hypnosis aspect is very intriguing OHCowgirl 07-25-2009, 08:26 AM Ok...I see the last post in this thread was in February. Is anyone still using Paul McKenna's program and if so is it working? I soooo want to believe it will. Connie sjm1027 07-25-2009, 02:04 PM Didn't work for me but hypnosis did. I had 3 visits and lost 136 pounds in 15mos. I have since became a certified hypnotist. Between seeing a hypnotist and doing self hypnosis you should have little problems. Good luck, steve Amy8888 07-28-2009, 12:57 PM Ok...I see the last post in this thread was in February. Is anyone still using Paul McKenna's program and if so is it working? I soooo want to believe it will. Connie Well I've gone back to Weight Watchers because I just need more structure and accountability. I try to incorporate the principles into my plan though, like slowing down when I eat. zoritsa 07-30-2009, 12:54 PM It worked when I listened to the cd every night. My only problem was not wanting to listen to it daily.I am trying to follow the techniques again, and it's kind of nice savoring my food rather then bite after bite without thinking. 2fat4u 07-30-2009, 04:16 PM Hey i have a question, i dont have enough money to buy the book but i downloaded the CD offline, and i read the book at the book store before, i was wondering if this is the right hypnosis CD. b/c i dont want to download something that will mess with my head. :] zoritsa 07-31-2009, 11:13 AM Hey i have a question, i dont have enough money to buy the book but i downloaded the CD offline, and i read the book at the book store before, i was wondering if this is the right hypnosis CD. b/c i dont want to download something that will mess with my head. :] I downloaded the cd and then rented the book from the library(which also comes with the cd).It is the same hypnosis cd as in the book. Echo 08-15-2009, 01:19 PM Hey everyone! is anyone out there following this? I heard about it just yesterday and started implementing the 4 golden rules and wow it really works! yesterday i ate less than half of what i normally would eat! i was so suprised. i usually eat really fast! so i really had to slow down. and i used to eat infront of the telly and not really tasting what im eating. i'm very excited about this. i have printed out the 4 golden rules and stuck them on the fridge and in my room. and written out the hunger scale aswell, to ask myself, am i really hungry? and on what scale. also using the water technique. if im hungry, drink some water, if im still hungry then will eat something. in addition to the 4 golden rules, will be using the gabriel method, and trying to make healthier choices. and abit of south beach thrown in there too hehe. this is really going to work for me :) i've ordered the book. cant wait to read it. i've watched the first 3 episodes of the uk version. and listened to his cd. i fell asleep near the end of it, to be awoken by the end when he says wake up. lol. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
