Hello all. I figured since I used to start the threads and no one had done it yet this month, I would start this one also. Hope you don't mind.
I am doing well. I went to the GYM M-W-F-SAT!!! 1 day more than what I promised myself I would do. I was there right away today also so I am over 100% for my personal goal!
I will weigh in tomorrow and see if it is helping with the weight loss, I know it is helping get me healthier, so either way it doesn't matter.
Well Lets get March off to a great start...

Hi all,
I've just started taking Alli again but can't remember. Can someone tell me how many fat grams I need for it to be worthwhile? I eat a very low fat breakfast so don't take it then but I plan to for lunch and dinner. Do you think it can work well with Weight Watchers?
Thanks
Rachel

Thanks for getting us started Still. I was going to do it tonight, but you beat me to it! I am proud of you for hitting the gym as often as you are. When we get home (maybe Wed. or Thurs.), I'll be getting back into the Y routine. Actually, I may wait till next week since there will be stuff to get done after being gone since Jan. 29. Not looking forward to going back to the cold weather.
Rachel, the number of fat grams you need depends on how many calories you are supposed to be eating. I don't have any of my information with me. We are in Florida right now. I know for me, I'm allowed to have 19 (I think) per meal. I usually took an alli if I was over 5 grams in a meal. I rarely took one with breakfast. It seems like someone else was combining alli with Weight Watchers, but I have no idea who it was or even if they are still posting here. Let us know how you are doing!
While we were at the condo in GA, we were eating pretty well because we were able to cook. Being on the road and staying in hotels again, there have been some choices of food that I've made that haven't been the best. I haven't gained anything though.

WTG Still!!!! Woo hoo!!
I'm looking forward to getting into a routine again. We are in Lake City, FL, tonight. It started storming, so we just stopped and got a room for the night. We'll get an early start in the morning. Not sure how far we plan to drive. They are having an ice storm at home, so I'm really not all that interested in getting there any sooner than we have to!

I feel better, and actually look forward to going. I did 15 on the bike, 15 on the treadmill and 20 with weights.....so I am moving right along....

Hi girls...
Still, you're doing great :carrot:with the exercising! I am finally walking :running:at least three days a week. Keeping my pedometer on even the days I do not walk. It's amazing how many steps one takes in a day!
Tammy, eating out i:hungry:s (I believe) one of our biggest challenges. It is a social thing...nice to sit across from a table with DH :cofdate:or a good friend sharing good food and good conversation. I have found it to be very difficult to me to stick with the program when we eat out. I held my weight the last couple weeks but so many 'social' things were going on that included food I am lucky I didn't gain.
Hi Shy and Hooding!
Where is my sis???

Two more days to weigh-in for me but had to weigh for a challenge on the Alli site...and I will be gone next week so will not be able to post for a week so here's an update:
After a three-day:rollpin: stuggle off program I got right back on it and with walking three days a week and counting everything I put into my mouth I finally hit my 20 lb mark by losing 3 lbs this week.
That averages out to 10 lbs a month since I started on January 14th of this year.
It proves to me that counting :write:calories/fats and being patient really does work. Our off days are the real test of our determination to keep on the program. I will be relieved and happy when one day I realize 'my weighing in' is no longer an issue to how I react to my day. It will be as natural as brushing my teeth every morning. When I reach my 'realistic' goal it will be my habit to step on the scale :goodscale(my new friend) every morning to be sure I do not gain it back.
Thank you Still, Tammy, Shy, Sis for being faithful to this site...coming here whether I lose, gain or stay the same is a God-send for me. Thanks again!
I love you sis!

Still, it is great that you are enjoying the gym and are feeling better. I'm sure I will too once I get back into the routine.
Shy, yesterday was beautiful! We made it home about 5:30, and now we have snow everywhere!! I want to go back to GA!!!! lol
Brighten, it amazes me at the number of steps I take when I look at the pedometer. I should wear it every day, but I forget! Eating out is a challenge. Hubby and I have started splitting more meals, and that is helping. Since he has been ill, he just doesn't eat as much.
20 Pounds is awesome!!!! Way to go!!!!!!!! And we thank you for coming to this site also!! It's a great group!

03-07-2008, 05:20 PM
Shy, I just watched a weather report, and they think we'll get up to 15 inches of snow by tomorrow night. It's probably the same for you. It's also supposed to get pretty windy later. Our son is supposed to come home tomorrow for spring break, but he may be staying longer in Indiana. I don't want him out on the roads.
I'm with you on the pound a week. Most of the time it's that or less. Not gaining is good though!!

So far out of that 15 inches we have gotten about 4 or maybe a little more. We aren't in that snow belt we are just outside of it. Drive is now clear and since I have no where I have to go. I couldn't care less how much we get lol. Did have my daughters father take her back and forth to work. Wasn't sure how bad the roads might be late at night.

SHY, glad you're not getting hammered by the snow. Our weather doesn't know what it wants to do.
I am going to make up my gym day that I missed today. When I get off work I am going to run home change clothes then take my bedding the the BIG washer at the laundromat, then work out when that is done. Should be a nice switch to mornings. But I am looking forward to getting back on schedule MONDAY!
I also agree that I would be happy with 1lb per week...I mean 2 would be SUPER but I will surely not complain about 1..lol

HA Since 10:30 am yesterday we now have 16 inches of snow lol. Took 4 hours with a snow blower and 2 snow shoves to clear out my drive.
Tammy
03-09-2008, 12:06 AM
Shy, you must have been in the snow belt after all!! We ended up with 11 inches and lots of wind. Drifts everywhere. Our county has been on a Level 3, so they were arresting people who were out on the roads. Our son ended up driving home this morning. He decided it would be better to come in the daylight. It took 2 1/2 hours and it usually takes an hour. Glad to have him home. The area we live in has all of the snow removal done for us. We pay so much a year for that, the mowing, and just general outside maintenance of the condos. The majority of the people on our street are senior citizens. I think there are only 3 people under 60 years old. Our son, me, and our new neighbor.
We've already decided we aren't going to church in the morning. Not worth going in the ditch and wrecking the car.

I made it to the gym today did 50 minutes!!!!
Tammy
03-10-2008, 06:22 PM
It was up to 45 degrees, and the snow is starting to melt. It's supposed to get warmer this week, and we are supposed to have rain. Then we'll be having flood warnings. Amazing.
I haven't gotten back on the Alli since we've been home. I took it a while when we got to GA, but I quit taking it when I was sick. Hubby and son told me this morning that it is time for me to go to the doctor here because they don't think I'm better. I've been running a temperature again, so maybe they are right. Bummer.

It sounds like the doc might be the best place to go right now. If it is the darn virus that is going around there isn't much they can do but better to be safe than sorry. Nice and warm here too about 45 I think. Going to be warm for the next few days. Sigh, all those hours in the cold shoveling snow and now it is going to go away lol. I wish it would stick around for awhile. My yard looks lovely. We live about 1/2 hour or so out of the snow belt. When it hits my little valley it really hits. Nuts out there lol. My daughters father took her to work and brought her home for two days. I wouldn't let her drive.

I love subway. Put it in the bowl and don't eat the bread. Way to many carbs in the bread for what it is. I get mine made that way every time we go. Shy, I do get the salads at Subway sometimes. Love them!! I usually don't eat much bread, so when I do have the sandwich, I don't worry too much about it. Of course, maybe that's why my butterfly isn't moving on my tracker! We got quite a bit accomplished with the cleaning, but we still have some things to do before our son heads back to school. Once it warms up, we'll need to get out and wash windows.
Still, happy birthday!!!!!!! Sure hope you are feeling better. I love the Mickey picture!!
I told my son that I'll be sad when he goes back to school, but I'll be glad also. I feel like I am eating way too much. Always do that when he is home because we try to have his favorite meals.

Hello, Shy, Tammy and Still...speaking of Subway - We were gone for four days and everyday but one I had a Subway Turkey 6" sandwich with their onion dressing, lettuce, pickles and tomatoe. We ate :eating2:out almost every meal except b'fast...when we returned home I could not believe it but I actually held my :goodscaleweight. I thought for sure I had gained five pounds!
I am faithfully counting my calories/fats. I took the Alli booklets with me and used them all the time so I am hooked for sure.
I am drinking a lot more water since I bought the little flavor packets to add to the bottles. I am still walking :running:but not as often as I should. It's been raining and too cold for me.
Still, I am sorry I missed your birthday! :bday2you:
Shy, I am like you in that I have to hem everything I buy...jackets, pants, etc...I too am short, if I buy crop pants they fit me almost like regular pants! My trick for capri's is to cut off the legs of regular pants to fit like capri's...my old pants of course.
Tammy, glad to hear your cough has lessened and your snow is melting!
We are having another spring day today so perhaps I will walk. The tulips:flow1: are at least 8" tall now!

Shy, have to agree with you there about the carbs. A friend of mine lost so much weight by cutting out the carbs. A woman I taught with would buy capris, and she wore them as long pants. Did we tease her about that? You betcha!! lol
Still, good for you on another pound! I wear capris and shorts. I used to worry about how I looked in shorts, but now I don't worry about it.
Brighten, I told hubby that I am tempted to go on that Subway diet for a couple weeks and see what happens. I mean that Jerrod guy did it, why not me? Good for you for holding your weight! That is awesome!! I love tulips! I should find a spot to plant some here. We had them at the last house we lived in, and they were so pretty.
Our son went back to school this afternoon. I know he was ready to get back to see his girlfriend. They didn't see each other at all over the break, but they were on the computer or telephone every day. She's a sweetie. In fact, she'll be going to Michigan with us in July.
I go to give blood tomorrow and a haircut on Wed. Hubby has a doctor's appointment with the liver specialist on Tuesday. I think that's all that's on the calendar for this week, so I should be able to get back into the YMCA routine.

I like the capris that go right at the knee or just under it, I dont like the ones that are like high-water pants..lol I dont care for shorts, never have much because my thighs have always been pretty big and they rub, then the shorts ride up in the insides, that drives me nutts!
Tammy, good luck with giving blood, I can't do that, my DR said NO....
Shy, you are doing so well. Keep it up!
I missed the gym today I had such a sore throat this morning, but I may go tonight. I discovered something last night. I was restless all day, I really wanted to be MOVING around but couldnt, because timing just wasnt right. So about 9pm when I put my little one to bed I told hubby I was going to walk around the block....well I decided to jog a bit, so I did, only 4 blocks, but MAN, I think I have exercise induced asthma....so I did a little reading on it this morning and I am positive that I have it. So I need to call the DR and see about getting something for it. I mean I could have kept jogging but I just couldnt get air and my chest got tight, and I was salivating (TMI, sorry)
SO I think that may be an issue and if I get that problem addressed I think I may be able to have a better work out. Wish me luck!
I can not believe that after 3 weeks of going to the gym I have this desire to go more! That is just crazy, but good!!!

Yes, by all means have the doc check it out. I have asthma and so far ( knock on wood ) I haven't had exercise make it worse or cause an attack. Nice going on the gym. Isn't it great when we enjoy something that is so good for us. I like the Capri's that go just under the knee too that is why most of them are to long for me. I don't want high waters lol.
Tammy

Shy, catching up on the laundry is always there when we return from trips, isn't it? I like the capris about the same length as you do. I'm 5'8" so I usually don't have problems with that.
Still, you are closing in on your goal!! You and Shy have made great progress!! I agree with Shy, go to the doctor!!!!!
I wasn't able to give blood. My iron was too low. It was 35 and needs to be 38. That happened a couple times before, and I started eating foods on their list and was able to give in January. I've been eating those foods again, I take a mult-vitamin, AND I have been taking an iron supplement for the past week. Once before when I couldn't give, they mentioned that if I was having or had just had TOM that could throw it off. Well, I haven't had TOM since the beginning of December (hoping this is menopause now), so that can't be the case. I am trying again in April.
Heading to the liver dr. with hubby this afternoon. We are both a bit nervous to find out the results of the bloodwork that he had last week. Praying that the liver enzymes have improved and that nothing bad shows up from any of the tests.
have a great day everyone!

Only trouble now is I have a dry cough...I've been fighting getting this darn cold that is going around and it is hitting me today, but I will be OK....I managed the gym today and feel super except for the cough. I am still at the same weight, but I figure it will take my body a couple more weeks of going to the gym to get used to this exercise and start letting me lose weight again....which is fine. I know my clothes fit a little better again...and I am only 10 lbs from where I was 10 months ago. So I figure a couple months and I should be back to 164, then I can work on getting down to goal. I have never really been able to break that 160 lb mark without desperate measures and I do not want to have to do that so I will take my time and work into a good exercise routine (which I have never had) that is bound to help me out!

Lilly-As long as your staying in your target fat grams per meal and taking Alli as directed you most likely wont have any "side" effects. Typically you would only see some loose or oily stools if you are consuming to many grams of fat per meal.
Welcome and good luck to you!

Sounds like a good plan. We are better off to make small changes. Nothing drastic. What we do has to be things we can live with forever. Sometimes that means watching what we eat and seeing how we need to make changes. Sometimes that means getting the body moving.

It seems most can take the Alli and not have to much trouble. Only those with medical problems such as Dicky tummy seem to have problems. The real thing is to keep that fat within the ranges Alli tells you to keep them at.

The real thing is to get the required amounts of the four basic food groups in each day and stay withing some good general ranges for ones self. Most of the time, if a person looks at what they are eating they are not getting those required amounts in and they are eating to much fat and to many carbs.

Granted it depends on what it is and who makes it. I do not typically go by the "sizes" more of the fit, but the 10's are a good size for me to grab and then see if I need to go up or down..lol

Still, I like what you said about getting into a good exercise routine. I need to get my behind in gear and get started on that. Good going on the loss! 18 more pounds! You will be there sooner than you think!
Lilly, I would even have cheese on sandwiches sometimes and still wouldn't have a TE. Great loss!!
Shy, are you having much flooding over your way? When I went to get my hair cut yesterday, there was water standing in the ditches and fields, and it was across the roads in many spots. Today it was sunny, so that was a nice change.
We had a couple days where I couldn't get on to the internet. I think the flooding must have something to do with the problems.

happy good friday ya'll ! i am down 5lbs !! i dont know if my brain is playing tricks on me or something but woohoo!
i went out for dinner last night and had this amazing pasta dish. my first pasta in probably a month ! i once again didn't have a pill with me. oh well. soon enough i will get the hang of this.
Still - i am the same height ! 5'6 165pds right now. i can't remember a time i weighed less then 150 in my life. it would be my ultimate goal to just be at 150 again !
We have a ham dinner tonight. I will be at home so I will deffinatly have a pill. It'll be interesting to see if i get any side effects cuz so far i've been good.
I am so sad that chocolate has so much fat !!! I had no idea. I knew it had lots of sugar but even the Mini hedgehogs i love with NO added sugar have 13g of fat for 3 of them. they are tiny.

Nice going on the weight lose. I do understand about chocolate. There are some things I just don't eat anymore. It isn't that I can't have them. It is they are so full of fat and carbs for a tiny tiny piece I would rather have something else that I can have a lot of lol. I am into quantity these days lol.

Well ladies today is the last day of Lent, so as of sundown tonight I am allowed to have sugar again. I made it! I think I will continue to restrict my sugar intake though...I feel good! I am just hanging in there today, kinda tired, but that is because for the past 3 nights I have had a hard time sleeping because of a nasty cough that I have gotten. Hopefully it will be gone soon!
Happy Easter to all!

Happy Easter everyone !!
I am on chocolate overload !! so much of it everywhere.
i am finally getting side effects :( Eating ham dinner on friday did me in but it's not SO bad. after struggling with constipation for the past 2 years this is almost a blessing !! i'm sure once i'm back at work on tursday and get into a regular groove again it wont be so bad.
i haven't stepped on the scale. i hope i can continue to loose even though i have a turkey dinner tonight !

Still, we are so proud of you for what you did with the sugar intake during Lent. I know it was hard at the beginning, but you did it!! I'm sure your overload is since you haven't had any for a while.
Shy, I have a piece of dark chocolate every now and then. I'd much rather just have a bowl of ice cream though! That's my downfall.
Lily, I chuckled when I read that about the constipation. I can relate to that!!
Our son couldn't come home this weekend because of his job, so we went to him. We took Tim and his gf to Olive Garden for lunch today. I had the Venetian Apricot Chicken with vegies. Lowfat meal on the menu. I did have salad and a breadstick though. I felt pretty good with what I ordered compared to the rest of them though. lol
I hope you all had a blessed Easter.

OK I did have sugar overload yesterday, but you know...I hated how I felt so this morning I was back at the GYM and have not added sugar to anything..I did have oatmeal this morning (flavored kind), but I think I am going to stay on a severely strict (less) sugar diet. I liked how I felt. I think I will have a little now and then but not near like I had been before lent. I will still opt for my sugar free substitutes and hopefully that will help me. I am also going to cut back on my fats now as well, as I need a little boost if I am going to have a little sugar here and there. That should be ok for me as I usually do well if I go at it real hard then ease up after time....Since when you take something away for a long time (at least for me) then when you have it again you dont seem to want/need near as much as you had been used to.
That is my plan at least...
Tammy-Thanks for being proud...I am proud of myself and I know I can do this!!!!

That is the very reason I don't do without a thing, ever. If I do without stuff for a long period of time I can't seem to get enough of them. I make sure I get a snack every night. I eat and want less of it but I also don't go into I am never going to get it again mode.
Tammy
I have found a half cut frozen yogurt and a half cup reduced fat ice cream with a banana and a cup of 2% milk really does the trick for me when I am having an ice cream time lol. I don't want any of that stuff to often, but then I never did. When I want it I sure do want it lol. Most of the time when I make my shake I end up giveing half of it to one of the kids because it is way to much for me
Tammy
03-25-2008, 12:33 AM
Still, you've done so well cutting back on the sugar, and you know how it makes you feel compared to eating lots of it. You go girl!!
Shy, I know what you mean about doing away with something and then really wanting lots of it! I drink too much soda. I drink diet most of the time, but I will have a real Pepsi every now and then. That used to be my all time favorite! Your shake sounds good. I really need to get a blender!! I had one, but somehow when we had our auction, it ended up being sold. I blame my husband for that one!!
We ordered a new microwave today at Sears. We wanted black and they didn't have it in stock. Ours died while I was making scrambled eggs last week. This house is about 8 years old, and we think it was probably the original microwave (above the range). It didn't have a user's manual with it, so I wasn't even sure how to do everything.

I am lucky lol I have the same microwave that I bought when my son was born, over 21 years ago lol and yet we bought this house and a couple of months later the dishwasher went out. Guess what, I got a new one. What a waste of money lol. I bet I haven't used the thing a dozen times in about 9 years. How did I know. I thought I would use it all the time, I hate to do dishes. Then I found out how much water it uses, how much electric and so forth. I am just to darn cheep for that lol. I wash dishes. I was a bit happier about doing dishes when I found out it burns calories lol.

I started Alli on March 17th. The first two days I took it before all three meals. Then I realized since I do eat low fat anyway, I didni't need to take it for breakfast or lunch so now only take it once per day at supper time. So far, today is my two week point, I have lost eleven pounds.
Yes if you eat to much fat you will suffer with the trots. lol So far I have not had a problem because I am on a low fat diet anyway.
So my pills were just under $60 for 90 and since I am only taking it once per day that comes to $20 per month for a little diet boost that is working for me.
For me, I think taking it just once a day is a little psychological boost as well to help me stay within my fat grams allowed per day for myself. I will check in next Tuesday with my weight loss again. we will see if it continues. I hope so.

Well ladies, I have an issue! Water retention...OMG! I know it isnt possible that my sugar overload (which consisted of 2 handfuls of whoppers and 2 bite size candy bars) on Sunday caused me to gain 7lbs! I was at 173 and was doing great, then I had Easter and got to have my sugar...well I have been to the gym Monday and Today 45 min each time with cardio/weights. I usually dont weigh in on Gym days because I drink 30 oz of water by the time I hit the scale, well I did today and I am pretty mad. My scale (which is usually good to me) showed 180 this morning. I mean I realize it will take a couple days or a week to Flush all that sugar crap away, but OMG!
Lilly83
03-26-2008, 10:52 AM
Still - did you eat ham??! Any time i eat cooked ham it's so salty that i retain so much water and wake up at 3am DYING of thirst. I honestly dont think a bit of sugar can = 7lbs. But who knows. I would blame ham, or easter dinner.
I am scared to hit the scale today.

Many people take Alli as a boost. For some people the physiological results are just as important as the pounds on the scale. I say if it is safe, if people are getting the required amounts of the four basic food groups in a day. What is the harm.

Better out than in I have heard lol. They wanted to do a hysterectomy on me because the DOTs are going where I can skip one and they can be heavy sometimes. I was going to have it done but then I was losing weight so well I didn't want to mess that up. I get down to goal and stay there for a year I might go ahead and have one done. I'm here! Just haven't been on here! lol Shy, when we moved here 2 years ago, we ended up selling our old microwave at the auction we had since this house had a built in microwave. I do miss the old one, but we really didn't have the counter space for it. I have to agree about the dishwasher. It was here when we moved in. We use it from time to time, but we hand wash quite a bit of dishes.
Lilly, glad to hear you are over whatever it was that you had!
Welcome to Dinkster (Annie)!! 12 pounds is super!!
Still, I'm sure that gain is a fluke and it will be gone quickly!!!! Especially if you keep running to the bathroom!!
I have been going through papers in our desk today. Our shredder is quite full. I should have done it yesterday because our trash went this morning. Next week! My hubby is working on supper. Beef roast, potatoes, carrots, and onions. Sure smells good out there. He browned the roast first, and then drained off any grease that was there. He is a good cook.
I'll be busy the next several days. There is a Men's Emmaus Walk going on at a church near here, and I'll be there volunteering in the kitchen and mail room. It is alot of fun, and I get to be with several of my friends. I know most of the men who are on the team for the weekend, and I know a few who are going on their Emmaus Walk for the first time. Well, my bloating is easing a little down 1 pound of water today....I'm pretty sure that within a week I will have lost all of this water weight! I have done real well, I had some candy Sunday and Monday, but had my fill so I havn't had any candy/sweets since. I think I will stay with the NO SWEETS, instead of NO SUGAR! We are supposed to go out again this weekend, but I am going to stick to diet pop and water, NO BEER/Alcohol. Man...well I guess I dont need the extra calories anyways! So that is a good savings for me...lol
Other than that I am doing pretty good, I made it to the gym 3 times a week last month, just what I set out to do. This month I added an extra 40 minutes over the month (no much I know but every bit helps). I will be outside more as the weather warms up too so that will help. I have a lot of miles to get walked in the next couple months to make it to 100 miles by Summer!
