GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

Will post my usual morning post sometime later, but wanted to make sure I got our
MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY done early in the morning, so here's my contribution for MM-
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST YET!!!

http://members.aol.com/debelli/monday_morning_thought.jpg

MAKING A CHOICE

Just imagine what would be possible for you today if only you could exercise positive, focused control over every thought and action. You wouldn't waste any time being angry or spiteful or envious. You'd simply move yourself positively forward. You would actually do all those things you know you need to do, and you would avoid those things you know you'd later regret.

In fact, you do have control over your thoughts and actions. After all, they're your thoughts and they're your actions. So why do they so often lead you toward things that are not in your best interest? It happens whenever you choose short term pleasure and comfort over long term joy and achievement.

Is that really what you want to do, or has it just become a habit? Today would be a great day to break that habit. Today would be a great day to start living in your best interest. Today would be a great day to put your efforts into building a life of purpose, achievement and fulfillment.

The shallow pleasures of the moment never last, so choose to invest your precious time in something more substantial. Every moment you're making a choice, and every moment you have the opportunity to build a life of greatness. You're in control of what you do, so make sure it expresses who you really want to be.

Happy Monday!!! Happy President's Day!!! Happy the First Day of the Rest of your Life!!!!!

Well, I just have to share two things with you all today.

1. Mary Englebreit hit me over the head this morning with her daily wisdom. Today's message is LIVE BY DETERMINATION. And she's quoted Goethe with something I think we all can understand and take on. "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, BEGIN IT." I thought that was great!!! I was just reading this morning in my Yoga Basics Newsletter about mantras. And how much they can do for you spiritually and physically. I think Mr. Goethe has supplied my mantra for today.

2. I also have a link for you to read. I have my startup screen set for a daily dharma page. I thought today's was super. Check it out.

Well, that's it for me. My eating was absolutely ****** this weekend. Feeling really bad about it. But trying to take today as a fresh new start.

Take care you all and have a great day!

Happy Monday Everyone!

I am sitting at my desk at work, because our county decided NOT to celebrate the Presidents' day. No need to say, most of the kids are celebrating regardless.

Thanks for the brown sugar feedback. I have already informed most of my friends, but since some are already health conscious, and are convinced they know a lot about what there is to know... they look at me kind of funny when I start the NO-NO-brown-sugar-either mantra.

Cooking frenzy continues - does anyone know how to make protein bars that are not all mushy, but more-less solid? I guess I could take a basic recipe and add oatmeal, but I would feel so much better if the recipe came from the SB conscious someone!

I posted my oatmeal cookie recipe on the recipe board. It is actually Deb's recipe, but I made the fat free changes and have baked and eaten them too (slurp, gulp):T .

See yaa later!

Good morning! Thank heaven's it's Monday, and I don't have to go to work today. This weekend was a blast, but I'm exhausted. Saturday at 5 pm the OSU bus showed up in front of the house with dd and 35 of her closest friends ( the lacrosse team ) and 20 of their parents, and a few assorted boyfriends and a few I never did identify. Turns out I had enough food for about 120 people and if I NEVER see another tray of baked ziti again, I will be thrilled. I had originally planned to ignore the food (lol) and take Sunday as my BFL free day because I thought it would be too hard to eat all those clean little meals at the tournament, BUT....I couldn't get thru Saturday night. So I took that as my free day, all packed into 1 "meal". For the first time, I went way off SB too, and couldn't keep my hands off the dessert trays. I was buzzing from sugar like I'd had 10 cups of coffee, and went to bed with a stomach ache, woke up with a food hangover, and hope I won't do that again anytime soon. Sunday I just packed a lot of good clean food, and muched my way thru the tournament on ww pita, cottage cheese, apples, hardboiled eggs and chicken breast. I was able to completely ignore the tailgate goodies afterwards, especially since a lot of it was the left-overs from my house the previous night!

The tournament was fun to watch, OSU did well, dd played well, and it only snowed for a few minutes! We all get a lol about how lacrosse is a spring sport.

Deb- Congrats on the size 2! Even if you think you are not really a size two, it should be a great confidence boost! I found a pair of size 4 pants that fit me and were on sale a few weeks ago, and bought them cause I just like to look at the label! And since they are basic black pants, can't ever have too many of those. You keep chocolate wrappers??? Oh well, I keep clothing size tags. Each time I can get into a size smaller, I stick the tag under the glass top on my night stand to remind myself I don't want to have to pull out anything bigger.

Frog- I wondered what your l&s post was about with the peanuts. I only caught the second one. I think we've all had our version of the peanut debacle. And I sure know what you mean about wanting instant gratification. I feel like I'm working sooo hard, each workout should produce a major transformation, preferably around my mid-section. But I'm afraid that for me, once an "apple", always and "apple", just a smaller one. But I do have great shoulders and biceps now. So it will definitly still be a 1 piece bathing suit for me, but maybe I can get those high cut leg opennings! Hang in there.

Nascar- I guess that wasn't the ending you were hoping for. Hope you had a fun weekend anyway.

Hi everybody else- gotta go get shoes and jeans for my ever-growing ds. Too bad I can't just switch clothes with him. He's growing faster than I'm shrinking. At 11 1/2, he's thrilled to point out that he's only an inch shorter than me and his sister, and will overtake us this summer. We are not amused.

Hello all,

We are out of school today ....thanks to all those dead presidents. I am out to the barn now to feed the hungry herds. Later when it warms I will be exercising April.

DH , I and our two dearest friends are heading to Gatlinburg this weekend. We will leave on Friday and head back on Monday. Therefore my work week is only 3 days this week.....yeahhhhh. She is doing SB too so we should have a easy time of staying OP. So far she has lost 10 pounds. I am so proud of her....she is doing great. I need to get her on the board. I will tell her all about it this weekend.

Well need to run. Cya later,

Debbie :)

Good Monday Morning Everyone

It's a bright, sunny, cool morning here and I am just getting ready to head out to do a few errands before going to badminton at noon. And then again this evening if I have the energy.

Deb - I made granola bars yesterday using your Almond Granola recipe. I didn't add anything to it, just put it in a 9x11 pan and scored it into serving size pieces while it was still warm and separated them when it was cool. I found when I was making the granola that it clumped together so thought I would give it a try and it worked. The only thing I might do differently next time is to chop up the almonds a bit smaller. The ones I use are the sliced almonds and the large peices made it a little difficult to separate the bars without braking them. I bought the 85% chocholate yesterday so let me know how many you would like.

BOB - I went out yesterday and bought eleven bars of Lindt 85% choclate. That was all they had in the store. So BOB you can have the 4 bars you requested.

If anyone else who will be joining us in Orlando would like some of this please let me know. I can probably get some more at another store if necessary.

Gotta run. Have a good day everyone.

Marie.

Hello everyone. I found this board from the SugarBusters page and board. Someone had posted the link and I thought I would check it out.

I posted this question over there but didn't get much of a response and thought I would ask here. I have chnaged it a bit because I have now been doing SB for 11 days! So here it goes:

This is long..please forgive me!

I am in need of advice. I have been doing Atkins for 4 months and had lost 12 pounds. When I started in October 2001 I weighed 180 and I am trying to get down to 154…I am 5’8.5” tall. I have been very faithful to Atkins and even after Induction officially ended I was still eating around 20-25 carbs a day. I found it very difficult to raise my carb count with the kinds of food we were allowed to eat on Atkins.

When I found out about SB I thought it sounded wonderful. Very similar to Atkins except moderate in carbs, allows the fruit and whole grains. I began SB last week and am presently on Day 11 for me. I have kept my menu generally the same as Atkins except I have added an apple on some days, ½ cup brown basmati rice and 1/3 cup (before cooking) old fashioned oats.

My weight loss with Atkins occurred in the first 2 months then I was losing inches. I have been stalled for about 8 solid weeks without weight or inches lost. I kind of go between 168-170 depending on the day it seems.

I drink lots of water, anywhere between 4-6 litres a day. (16-24 cups) I also exercise 4 days a week. This is comprised of 30 minutes of step up, 500 ab crunches, 50 tricep pushups and 100 butt crunches.

I was stuck on the road in a snow storm for 2 days but that left me eating more peanuts than I should have. I will post some of the menues here so you can give me advice. I think my worry is that I have not really changed my fat intake. I don’t think I was excessive before but I know it is something I am supposed to keep my eye on with SB.

I would appreciate any advice at all because after coming this far, I would hate to think what my next option is if I can’t get SB to work for me.

I must also add, I am aware I do not have to count carbs, but did so in the beginning just to *see* the difference between my Atkins menus and SB. Four solid months of Atkins habits die hard!

Hi there- I'll let someone else critique your menus, other than to say I'd eat a whole lot more vegetables, but I do want to suggest some changes to your exercise. If you are doing 500, 100 or even 50 of ANYTHING, it's really not doing you a darn bit of good. Obviously whatever kind of crunch you are doing is not challenging your muscles if you can do 500 of them. Switching your workouts around to fatigue you muscles in a lot shorter # of reps will build more muscle and burn fat a lot faster. sorry this is so brief and don't want to be rude, just stopping in for a quick look at the boards. Fell free to email me for suggestions!

Hey All:wave:

Got in my walk this morning despite the top of my foot bothering me. It was like I had a tourniquet tied on top, it felt tight and no matter how much I kept stopping and trying to loosen my shoe it wouldn't go away. It got better as time went on, but wasn't without giving me trouble. I went the entire 4.5 miles-so that's good.

I was half way through my walk when this lady coming out of the shopping center in her car stopped me-figured she was going to ask for directions. Instead, she told me that she sees me running all the time and saw my "transformation" and wanted to know how I did it. So, it put a monkey wrench into my walk, but I was glad to stop and chat with her a bit. Was hard to start up my momentum after about 20 minutes to get back in the groove of the walk/jog, but I did so.

Got on the scale today-yeah, back into that old habit-they're hard to break, you know. Was happy to see 120.5! I feel human again!!!

Kids are out of school today, Lauren is going back to the art show today (of course, when I take her, she has no interest, but go with a friend, heck, then she becomes an art lover?!?). I think I will take Michael to SEARS & PENNEYS to shop for the new glasses he needs.

QUILTER, good quote from Goethe and Mary! Hey, it does NO good to feel bad about your eating, that was the past, today is another day:)

VES, I thought this was a national holiday! Wondered why I got an e-mail from you from work-will reply to that later when I get home:) See ROSALIE'S post about the bars she made with my Granola Recipe. Also, let me know what types of things you want in your protein bar, I'm sure somewhere I have a recipe that I could provide.

MEL, sounds like you had a VERY good time at the dinner! Never forget how gross you felt afterwards, should help keep you in line. Glad to hear that was a 1-time event and you aren't the type of continue running in the other direction by continuing to eat off plan-which is what I would do given the chance! Girl, CONGRATS on a size 4! Like I said, I'm no more a 2 then Oprah is! LOL! Clothing tags?? At least you take the tags off and wear the clothes-I buy, leave the tags on and NEVER wear them! Hey, we all have our little idiosyncrasies. Don't feel bad about the kids almost being taller than you-mine are taller than me and make sure I am constantly reminded of it!!

BUSDEB, LOL! I laughed when you thanked all the dead presidents! That's great you have a SB PAL so close-makes it a lot easier!!

ROSALIE, thanks for the granola bar tip! I too use the sliced almonds, so chopping them would be a good idea. Will have to try it that way one day-BUT NOT NOW!;) So the LINDT is 85%? Hmm, did you try it yet? If you think it's good I'd like you to bring me 4 bars if there's a long expiration date to them, 3 if not too long (like well over a year). I'll add them to my stash happily!

GRACIOUS WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!:D Glad you've decided to join us. Your goal weight seems to be reasonable, as long as your not big-boned. What I have read in the past was that people who've been on Atkins and then switched over to a WOE like SB don't seem to lose at the beginning due to the body being re-introduced to carbs. Thought it really doesn't seem like you are eating all that much more in carbs than before-are you? Anyhow, your body is probably adjusting and this could be one of the reasons you aren't seeing a loss as of yet, but it could be other factors too, like hormones, TOM! How much fat do you think you are eating? That too could be a factor. I suspect that looking at your menus that you are not eating enough, esp. with your exercising. To stay your current weight you'd have to eat more than 2000 calories and I highly doubt you are even getting that. I eat a lot more carbs than you do, at 40% of your intake you really are too low. I eat about 150. I would also suggest to stay clear of the chocolate, esp at the beginning of SB. Montignac doesn't suggest it until you've reached maintenance, a very important item I think the authors of SB forgot to mention! They weren't so thurough when they took all his information to write a US version of his book. PLUS, you should only have a 1/2 ounce piece 3 days a week max if you do need to eat it. I didn't have my first piece of SB LEGAL CHOCOLATE until I was almost 1 year on plan (just 2 weeks shy of it actually). I'm sure a few gals on the board can give you some good info as they too were Atkins converts-I never would try to do that diet, I knew it wasn't for me. Just remember, this is a learning experience! You need to get out of the Atkins mentallity and focus on doing SB properly. We'll be happy to help answer your questions and hopefully help you on the way to losing the final pounds you have to lose. Once again, WELCOME!

Gotta run-be back later!!

Toodles!

Thank you for replying to my post, I look forward to learn lots of tips here.

Mel- my exercise is done in smaller repititions, not all at once. I use one of those metal ab crunch things that make them not so hard, but better than not doing them at all. I do 5 sets of 100, including my lats.

My butt crunches....I don't even know if that is what they really are called...when you like on the floor, shoulders and feet flat then raise up your butt. I do 2 sets of 50 for those.

My tricep pushups..sit on my *step* and then push out with just my hands resting on it, raising my butt up and down. Sets of 15 generally cause the ole triceps start to really cramp! Up to 50.

My step up routine is a variation of different moves but that is my aerobic/cardio thing and I do it for 30 mins with either no weights, or 2 pound handweights.

My exercise is kinda boring I know, but I used to go to a gym 5 days a week and had weight training , cardio and a variety of classes. Since I moved I don't have that anymore so I try the best I can in my home. I will try to spice it up! I must confess that I am just glad that I am exercising at all. Thanks for the words :)

Deb- I am actually eating a significant amount more carbs a day than I was on Atkins...at least in the lowcarb perspective I am. I was generally around 18-25 and now I am into the 80's on some days. I am enjoying it very much and look forward to what a few weeks might bring...or take!

I couldn't really say what my fat intake is because with Atkins you did not have to worry about that, only carbs. I am a professional carb counter but have to learn about gauging my fat and protein.

The last couple of days I have been more vigilant about adding vegetables and making sure I have the variety at each meal. These are some of the things I am learning as I switch from Atkins to SB.

Thank you for the welcome and I look forward to getting to know the people on the board here and benefitting from their sage advice!

Welcome Gracious! One thing I did when I first started SB was logon to <<www.fitday.com>>. Once you register, you login and type in your menu and exercise. I only did the menu portion. This way you can see if you're getting the 40 -30-30 carb/protein/fat percentages recommended. I found I wasn't eating enough protein, which was surprising to me. If I saw the percentages were off, I could usually eat a piece of lite cheese to balance it out. The site also allows you to track your progress over time.

DH and I celebrated our 7th year anniversary yesterday (it was actually during the week, but we waited til the weekend). We went to a New Orleans restaurant called Copeland's. We'd never been there before. I got the Shrimp Etouffee, substituted the white rice with wild rice (funny though, it was not brown and thin). DH got the crab catfish entree with roasted vegetables. Both DH and I were very impressed with the food, everything was superb. We were in an out of each other's plates! I know the fat carbs were probably high for those dishes, but I'd always wanted to try Etouffee, love the sound of it rolling off your tongue! For being a New Orlean's restaurant, I was surprised nothing was listed as SB legal. I remember a lot of restaurants were listed in the SB book with their SB legal dishes.

BTW, Happy B-day Lamap! Hope you have a great time celebrating it!

Well, lunch is over. Better go.

TOM hit today with full force. I noticed I was craving sweets, but ascribed that to eating so many over the weekend. ALAS! Then I realized, not all is that simple. I am probably all over the place illegal, but can't help it. If anyone has a suggestion how to stop this craving, bring it on! I have tried to snack on nuts before (after foolishly eating something with real sugar in it - eeeeeeek), but I don't think that will work for today.
I keep seeing food everywhere. I actually went to Whole Foods to stock up on NO CARB chocolade. They have it, you know, no sugar, no carb. However, it has high fat content.
SOL - did you make it to the store? I was looking for agave, to bake some legal sweet stuff ( if I have to have some,it better be legal) and they ran out! A new shipment is coming in tomorrow, so no worry.
DEB - Congrats on your weight! That's 1.5 lb since Saturday, right? I think I will go for a ride with my car around the neighborhood and figure out a longer walking route for me. 1 mile is just not enough, and I don't want to go in circles!
:spin:

MELIRIS - I feel for you. Especially right now. Bad cravings! It looks like you survived regardless, and are firmly fixed to stay OP. Keep it up! The food hangover may actually keep you OP better than all the good intentions.

GRACIOUS - welcome to the board! I think many of us are learning so much from SB WOE, and I know you will enjoy it also.

So long for now.

Hi Everyone

I had part of a post typed up and just lost it - darn it. So I will try again.

Deb - The chocolate I bought has an expiry date of October, 2002 so you won't want to have too much stashed away. Whatever you want you can have. I think I will have to stop making the granola and cookies for the time being as I just can't keep my hands off of it. I even told my ds last night to take the granola bars into his room when he went to bed so I couldn't get at it, then this morning I see it sitting on his bed. I tried some of the 85% chocolate to-day and it tastes pretty good. That was the first piece I have had in a couple of weeks - been too busy eating the other stuff ;).

Vesna - I sent you a private message with some recipes for Protein Bars. I'd be interested to know if you find any that you like. As I said in my message I've only tried a couple of them and didn't like the taste of the protein powder that I was using so didn't bother to make them again. I found them on a website a couple of years ago. Can't remember where.

I now have two scales to get on in the morning. My son came home yesterday with a new digital scale that also measures body fat. Unfortunately it weighs me 5 1/2 pounds heavier than my mechanical scale. So I will have to keep my mechanincal scale for my official weigh in but use the other one so I can see minor changes on a daily basis. I'll be driving myself nuts. :dizzy:

Gotta run. Cooking spaghetti for dinner and the timer has just gone off. I'm out again to badminton this evening.

Marie.

hi everyone,

went to the doctor this am for my check up and officially i have lost a total of 26 pounds since i started the end of sept. i got a big 2-thumbs up from him when i told him about the sugarbusters!
i have now decreased the insulin by 75% of what i was taking and with his approval will be continue to taper it. my blood pressure has been on the lower side too and now will take my bp med every other day! i will have my labs checked when i go back to work on wednesday, i am really excited about how much better i feel and how i show up on paper! the plateaus are the hardest thing for me but as long as from a health standpoint i am better that is what counts!!!!!

rosalie- if you can get me a couple of those bars of chocolate i would be thrilled, there are some times of the month especially as i get closer to 50 where i really HAVE TO HAVE CHOCOLATE!
i will order the agave when i finish this post, looking forward to meeting you in orlando. am sure glad that the canadian team got their gold!

quilter- had some skyline chili the other nite and thought of how nice it will be for my dh to have the real thing this summer. i too have the mary calendar and peeked ahead to tomorrow, it says to live tastefully and the picture says "part of the secret to success in life is to eat what you like" i have pencilled in "as long as it is sugarbuster legal"LOL!

frog-i went to a Mitford Tea Party on sunday with my best friend nance. they served tea and cookies, and someone had baked an esther bolick orange marmalade cake! that cake pops up in some of the books. i did see the recipe on the mitford books website, very very non-legal. i must confess i had a single taste, it was very sweet! there were about 20 ladies in the meeting room of the library, most dressed in their sunday best complete with lovely garden hats! i did win a floral arrangement as a door prize! it was a relaxing sunday afternoon out, makes me want to go visit mitford which i assume is similar to blowing rock where the author is from.

meliris- do you want to come and help me feed my son and 5 of his closest and biggest football buddies from the university of central florida? i just found out about 10 minutes ago that he is coming home this weekend and bringing "the big uglies" 1800 plus pounds of the offensive line. i better go to the grocery and start cooking up a storm. trays of some kind of italian stuff will work!

Bob- is it true, that survivor starts next week? i am really looking forward to it! will you be driving up with debbie to orlando? it will be nice to talk football with you, maybe you could follow the mac conference in addition to your sec teams, after all my big boy plays for them. he may drop me off at sonyas so you all can meet him.

debbie, thanks to you and all the gals on this board for your concern and inspiration! I DID NOT EAT ONE LOUSY GIRL SCOUT COOKIE! my daughter sold about 175 boxes of those unhealthy sugar laden things, i cannot believe they are finally out of my house except for husbands stash which i have made him take to work.

need to go, out for chinese tonight after i order the agave.

take care, everyone have a great week!

HiedieHo All!!!

The older I get the faster time flies!!!!! Does this mean the end is in sight?!?

I was so glad to see the Canadians get the medal and glad the Russian team was included! Now maybe we can get on with it! Good Ole USA is doing okay in medals department.

I have been doing my usual things. Sunday I went to a Groundbreaking Ceremony for Habitat. It was really nice, The father of the family sang a thankful anthem acapella, it was so touching, gave you goosebumps.

Did NH bit this morning, that is so much fun.

Then had a neurologist appointment after lunch. All tests were back plus he did another NCS, this time on both UEs. Definitely have carpal tunnel in both wrists. On the high side of moderate to severe, the right higher than the left. Would not recommend surgery at this time, think it's best to wait until it is bothering me more. Recommended a resting splint for left wrist to sleep with or use during the day when not doing tasks. The neuropathy in both U & LEs cannot be helped, since he can not find a cause other than the nerves themselves. If there was a cause like diabetes then it could be treated. Pain killers I said no to until it gets really unbearable and doctor agreed. So that's my story, learn to live with it, which is what I have been doing, but had to find if there was help for it.

The Board was so busy I read it all but can't sit long enough today to answer so will just remark on a couple of things I remember. Yes they do tax on food here. Muffalatos, Deb. you really don't want to know but you asked!! They can be a number of things, but basically breaded fried shrimp, clams or oysters on hoagie/submarine/ french (whatever you're familiar with) loaf, topped with scads of mayo, tomatoes, lettuce etc. a REAl GASTRONOMIC experience. NOT SB legal!!!!!

Someone asked what blepharoplasty was and I did not see an answer. basically it's cosmetic surgery on the eyelid.

Grouse is a little game bird that is popular hunter's prey.

Brown sugar.....I would subsitute dark agave for it. The dark, to me has the flavor that would make it a good sub.

GRACIOUS - Welcome, you'll find answers here, everyone is eager to help.

LAURIE - Happy Birthday!!!

Have to get supper before Olympics come on.

Take care all, Shirley

AND YES...SURVIVOR STARTS NEXT WEEK!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!

I'm still watching QUEEN...I've seen it probably 4 times, but love this ERA IN TIME....speaking of time...SHIRLEY...I just saw TIME run past my window....yes, you're right...as we age, TIME FLIES!!!! ;)

just got back from 12 hours in Birmingham with 4 13 year-old girls. The quiet in my house is wonderful, but I think I'm going to have to have a heave duty play session with Miss Belle before I can relax!

I foud the best salad at the Galleria Mall in B-ham. Wall steet Deli has this mix your own salad where you get to pick out all kinds of wonderful stuff and they mix it in a big bowl for you. It was huge, very filling, and totally OP!

I'm tired and need to relax before it starts all over again tomorrow. I'll try to resond to everyone then!

Thought for today: Your FOCUS becomes your REALITY!

That has been my mantra since Saturday and I think I'll keep it for a while!

Looks like the start to another one of those weeks where I exist for gym, meals, work then sleep! I can't beleive how tired I am when I come through that door. Getting up at 5:00 a.m. vs. 6:30 is putting a hurting on this girl! Did go to the gym this a.m. and did my upper body workout. Arms still feel like jello! :D Tomorrow is aerobic day.

TOM coming this week so I'll be heading off to the "Once a Month Lodge" with the rest of the squaws!

DEB - Hey that's terrific that the lady stopped you in the parking lot. I'm sure there must be many others who see you who haven't the time or courage or where-with-all to do the same, but, nonetheless you've inspired just the same. Glad you're happier with the scale these days!

BOB - I too am waitin' for the next intstallment of Survivor!

SEF - I have no proof and I say "to each his own," but I gotta tell you that my chiropractor friend says he can assist with treating/curing carpal tunnel non-surgically. He explained how but I can't retell it accurately. Can say that he improved my knee pain from marathon 99%. Regardless of the methods you take to heal, hope you're feeling better soon! {{{HUG}}}

BKM - WOW! You are dong so great and your doctor HAS to be proud of you! That's a terrific report! :spin:

MEL - The party sounded great. Love big gatherings like that. Felt like I hit 10's with UB today. Hope to hit 10's with LB on Wed, didn't feel as though I did last Fri. Am still want the instant result but am truly starting to notice some positive improvements in my "belly jelly roll." Just hope to whip out those 2 pieces this May. Cross all you can that I will be able to!

WELCOME NEWBIES!

HELLO to all that I missed today!

Hope to be at chat tomorrow!

Peace,
FROG

Quick post before I go to bed:)

Not much going on here. Eli is off tomorrow and we have a full day out planned with getting stuff for his 5th Starbucks Anniversary Party at his store on Friday. Of course, lunch SOMEWHERE up in Broward should be on the agenda, as well as CARBOLITE!!!:spin:

GRACIOUS, ROSALIE & ZANNE will be happy to see another Canuk on the board:) We are getting to meet ROSALIE in less than 3 weeks and hope we get to meet our other friends from Canada one day as well! I'm sure, in time, you will be forgetting all about Atkins when you see how much better you'll do and feel on SB-just give your body some time to adjust to the change and be patient, it will pay off. Do be careful with the fats, you don't want to go over 30% of your intake. Okay, what the heck is a COCONUT YUMMY????

TREE, CONGRATS on your 7th ANNIVERSARY!! Sounds like you two enjoyed yourself. Sounds like an interesting dish you ate-wouldn't even know how to pronounce that one!

VES, when you are craving, try to wait 15 minutes and see if it goes away. Also, sometimes if you increase your protein and maybe eat some nuts (Brazil nuts are most suggested), that sometimes helps. If all else fails, then give in to your cravings, as nothing else will do, but in a very small moderation. The reason you are probably having a tough time is you haven't allowed yourself to totally detox from the sugars and refined stuff in your system. You will continue to have these cravings if you don't-which of course, isn't good. I don't suggest you buy any of the Carbolite chocolate. First, it's asking for trouble, esp. this early in the game-secondly, why have something with chemicals when you can have the real stuff!?! Montignac doesn't suggest it until near maintenance, and I truly believe you shouldn't indulge in chocolate at least for quite a while (okay, I say at near maintenance-just my opinion). The object is to get the sugar out and even though these are sugar free, they still stimulate the desire for sweets. Hmmm, you don't know about the TRAVELING DETOX DUNGEON YET!!!!! I did the same thing, drove in my car to see how many miles I was doing-you'll be surprised how easily you'll be able to do more.

ROSALIE, that's not too bad of an expiration-I think it's fine a few months later-gosh knows I have a ton of old chocolate I'll still eat! Waste not, want not! Please bring me 3 bars:^: I'll hit those first. I have a few that expire in May from Chocolove that I need to dig slowly into-but not at least for the next 3 weeks-Lauren's holding my stash hostage somewhere in the depths of her bedroom! Two scales-you are a brave woman! I won't even step on another scale-not even the Dr.'s-I tell him what I weigh on mine, too bad if they don't like it!! I weigh naked and I'm not doing that anywhere else but at home!!

BIGK, what wonderful news from the Dr.! CONGRATS!!! You are doing great and I'm sure your Dr. is thrilled! Can you believe that just changing your WOE has made such a huge difference and impact on you?!? :D I KNEW those GS Cookies wouldn't be a problem for you-we have better to eat anyhow!

SEF, have you developed carpal tunnel do to repetitive motion? I wish there was something more they could do for you. You sound like you have a huge pain threshold-hope it doesn't get too unbearable. Hmm, those muffeletos sound, ummm, interesting. I know my Mom loves them when she goes to NO, she's always talking about them.

BOB, can't wait for THE AMAZING RACE and SURVIVOR to return!!!

FILLISE -4 13 year olds-you brave sole!!

FROG, it's funny how many people stop me at the grocery store, garage sales and just about anywhere to tell me they see me and here I go, running by like there's no one else around, not paying attention at all. It is nice to be recognized for my efforts by people who don't have a clue who the heck I am:)

Okay, I'm pooped and ready to hit the hay. Please remember, TOMORROW IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST Hope to see some of you break away from the Olympics to join us for at least a few minutes!

Nite!

I was ok until Jeff Gordon caused the 18 car wreck and took my guy out!:nono: I'm sure Kevin Harvick will get him back for that. It was a beautiful day in Daytona the warmest ever. I do hope I can get us rooms again on the beach we had a great time. Did quite well on plan we went out to eat at PArks seafood and they served sweet potato as a choice on the menue too neat, Just wanted to post quick and say I had a blast It was a long ride down there and back. But well worth the ride!

Since Debelli is just dying to know...a Chocolate Coconut Yummy is just a low carb creation that someone posted on my old lowcarb board that I thought I would try..since dh loves coconut.
They are made with splenda, unsweetened cocoa, butter, milk, vanilla, peanut butter and coconut. They tasted pretty good but I prefer not to have stuff like that in the house, even when it is legal..cause I will EAT it! They had 1.5 carbs each and are good if you are just needing a *wee something*. I however, do just fine without that kind of thing. I prefer to keep my house free of it usually. I will only eat those kinds of things and the Lindt if they are in my house, I don't go seeking it out..so that is a good thing!

Starting today, I am going to figure out my carbs, protein and fat intake. I think it will help me make sure I am eating correct portions and so on.

The math:

I was given the amount of 1421 calories a day minimum from a health calculator somewhere so I will work with 1400.

40% carbs (140 grams)
30% fats (46.6 grams)
30% protein (105 grams)

I hope these numbers look right. The only question would be the protein because I read somewhere we should divide our weight by 2.2 and that will give us the protein count. That is 76.8 for me. So I am assuming those numbers as minimum and maximums. Therefore, protein is 76.8-105 grams/day.

:dizzy: I am not much of a mathematician but I think I have done this correctly. Please let me know if otherwise.

Whew! What a day we had yesterday. As I think I mentioned in my previous post, Paul was taking his day off to come to our office and install a wireless network. Well, it was a very long day. All our pc’s are very old and there is no consistency with them. So it was a mess. I came home and 6:30 and made some supper and let Maddie go pee. Then headed back down there. Well, we didn’t both get home until 10:30. Ugh. Poor Paul has to go to his regular job today and then he’s coming straight over to my office to fix this one machine that’s being especially cantankerous.

So I’m going to go in at noon today, so that Maddie girl won’t have so much alone time today. I’m so thankful that I have a boss who allows for this type of thing. So I’m asking for one more day to keep the fingers crossed that we get it all working right.

Would anybody be interested in reading an article about alfalfa? (Not the old little rascals character!) I read a good one yesterday about how it’s filled with nutrients and minerals and all sorts of things. Also said it’s an excellent source of protein. If you want, I will post it. But don’t want to take the room up on the board, if no one is interested.

LAMAP---Happy, happy birthday in a couple of days. One of my nieces was born on the 21st, so now it’s an extra, extra special day. I hope you have a great day.

VESNOID---I love yoru conquering quote that you put in your signature. That’s so true and how empowering!!! Keep cooking!!!

BUSDEB---Have fun in Gatlinburg!!! That’s a great place to spend a weekend. I went to college in eastern TN and a bunch of us crazy kids would pile into a couple of cars and have a blast there. I have really great memories from that place. I hope you all make some of your own. Beware of the taffy. It’ll sneak up and bite you in the butt if you’re not careful.

ROSALIE---I loved your idea of making the granola into bars. I have a problem with serving sizes. So what a great way to tame my overly generous nature to pad the servings. My SIL had some SF ice cream bars at her house this weekend. I didn’t have one, but I did think it was a great idea to have the serving size already pre-determined. I think I should look for some of those bars. They looked really yummy. Dark choc over ice cream, how much better does it get?

GRACIOUS---Welcome to the board. You never have to apologize for posting long posts here. We want to help each other and some times that means writing a lot of stuff down. I have to admire your for being so diligent in writing down your meals. That’s awesome. I will let the other experts advise you on the content. But I will say that if your commitment to getting healthy is anything like your commitment to recording what you ate, you will have some great success!!! Keep up the good work!!!

DEB---Sorry to hear that your foot is giving you fits. What’s up with that? New shoes? Hey, even if that woman ruined your time for yesterday, you had to love that some stranger saw your work and the pay off. How cool for you. I know you are doing this for yourself, but the occasional acknowledgement from a stranger has to make you smile. Congrats!!!

BKM---Congrats on the 26 pounds gone!!! That’s awesome!!! I am thrilled for you. Also so happy to hear that your blood sugars are starting to regulate. How great for you. Do you feel any different because of that? I think we should meet at a Skyline Chili while you are here. What do you think? I’m sure there’s one over in Harrison. I love their coney’s, but don’t get them very often because of the bun. Naughty girl, stop peeking ahead!!! LOL I understand that it’s tempting. I always have a hard time not looking, but that gives me something to look forward to when I’m so sleepy and can’t get my eyes open. Did I tell you that I put mine on the back of my toilet? It’s the perfect place, because I’m sure to see it very soon in the mornings.

BOB---Interesting question about what was my weakness this past weekend. Three words . . . Girl Scout Cookies. Guess who was the bad boy and brought home a stack of those dreaded boxes? Yes, you guessed right. BKM is coming up in June. Won’t we have fun? Are you sure you don’t need to visit Kathy then? I’m sure she would like a visit from her favorite aunt. If you come, I’ll treat you to Skyline!!!

FILLISE---Your trip to Birmingham reminded me of a trip I took years ago when I was the jr. high youth coach at the church I used to attend. The minister talked me into take 7 jh girls to Gatlinburg for the entire weekend. Yeeeek!!! He loaned me his van and I agreed kicking and screaming the whole way. Not really that bad. Actually the trip went really well. The girls were great. Makes me feel old to think how old they are now. I totally understand how tired you were when you finished. Your salad sounded yummy. Kind of like a cleaner version of a salad bar.

FROG---You made me LOL this morning and I wasn’t even all the way awake. I love the Once a Month Lodge. Reminded me of that book The Red Tent. Haven’t read it, but heard it was great. You are doing so well with your workouts. Keep going with it!!!

NASCAR---Glad to hear you enjoyed the race. Sorry your guy was in the wreck. We didn’t watch the whole race, just the highlights on ESPN. Seems to me when somebody causes a huge pile up like that, he should be held accountable and fined or something. But I truly know nothing about that sport. So consider that an opinion made in ignorance.

Okay, well I’d better get up and start doing something. Will have to call the office and give some instructions on the new network. Then I’m hitting the TM before getting ready for work. We will probably be at the office pretty late tonight, so I will most likely miss the chat. May try to get on at work if I have time. Don’t talk about me while I’m gone. Ha!!!

Have a great day, you all.
Kim

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone!

Just got in from my jog/walk-actually today was the longest I've jogged straight-don't know the exact mileage, will have to find that out later-but I know it was the longest. Not the fastest I've jogged, kept a steady pace, which I guess is better than speed?

BUT, right about 1/2 mile from home, I'm running across the street, going from east to the west side as the traffic that has the light is going the same as me-this idiot girl makes a turn right as I am in the middle of the street barreling right towards me. She swerved right as she is almost on top of me-my hands were on top of her hood and boy was I pissed! I curesed the crap out of her. This was definitely the closest I've been to being hit by a car yet, another inch and she'd of had me for sure! I mean really, am I that hard to see running across a street?

I think TOM is finally coming-at least I hope it is! I'm 5 days late already. Funny thing is, last year at the same exact time, I was 1 1/2 weeks late-weird! The scale is up a pound and I'm not fretting over that though-I know I will be up and down over the next 2 weeks and then usually I have a nice drop. I know my eating has been perfect the last 4 days, so I'm happy:D

Eli is off and we have a list of things to do, so I won't be back on til later today. Hoping Michael doesn't have too much homework and I won't have trouble getting on in time for chat-please remember CHAT TONIGHT AT 9:15PM EST!!!

Any of you who are dealing with PCOS that didn't see my last post from last week may want to read it, just posted some info about an article in WD.

NASCAR, sounds like you had a great time-sorry your guy was taken out by the pile up. I didn't see the race but did see the crash on the news-ouch!

GRACIOUS, the coconut yummy sounds interesting, like a Mounds? Though, they do sound like they have a lot of fat, but I guess that also depends on how big they are. I think it will help you a lot to keep track of your food intake. I think for the weight you are now and your goal weight that you should try to have a bit more in the calories, you don't want to go too low, but wittle the calories down as you also go down in weight. My personal suggestion would be to start with 1600 calories-but remember, this is only my personal suggestion. You have the breakdown correct, good going. As for protein, I surely wouldn't be able to do SB if I followed the other way of figuring protein out. Also, it's not totally correct, esp. if you exercise-you need more protein. I will try to find an article that explains it better than I. I followed the 30/40/30 rule until about 6-8 months ago then went to 27.5/45/27.5 and try to stay in that range-but remember, it's a range and doesn't have to be an exact science-don't drive yourself crazy!!:spin:

QUILTER, I hope they're paying PAUL a good chunk of change for the job he's doing for them!! I'd be interested in the alfalfa article-always interested in reading stuff like that. Not sure what's with the shoe thing, did it again today as well, but not as bad-will have to ask our resident QUEEN OF SOUL what she thinks later:)

VES, RICKY is a cutie! He has board friends SKEETER & MADDIE who will keep him good company (BOB & QUILTERS DOGS). Can't wait to see a pic of you up there too!!!:D

Please remember, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!! I wish you all luck with the metal monster tomorrow!:D

Have to run and get in the shower! Have a wonderful day!!!

YOOPTIE DOOOO!!!!

SLOVENIA GOT A BRONZE MEDAL IN LONG JUMP - TEAM!!!! I was glued to the Tube last night and oooow and behold! They got it! This is our first Olympic medal. not bad for a population of less than 2 mil. Our boys and girls had great results before, and have brought medals home, but that was way back when, when Slovenia was still a part of Yugoslavia.
Of course, a bit of a mishap on this competition too - one of the Finnish jumpers fell, but the judges didn't see it! His body was down before the finish line. If he had been disqualified, Slovenia would have gotten silver.
Ahh. It's all good! :dizzy:

I'll be back!

Quilter- Thank you for the encouraging words. I am, in fact, a real administration queen. I take excellent notes and my journal is packed with every detail of what goes into me, little tips and facts, my daily weight, my weekly measurements and all that stuff. I am on my second book since Oct 2001 and find it is good to refer back to when I need reminders.

I am really excited about doing SB and getting the Atkins out of my system, as it were. I really believe it is just plain healthier.

Debelli- Oh those choco. coco yummies ARE fattening, even though I made them small. That is true for just about all of the lowcarb Atkins type desserts. With the butter, cream cheese and so on, they always said use full fat..I am thinking that I ate *perfectly* on Atkins but it was the tremendous fat intake that was probably stalling me.

I guess the thing with me is...I will follow a program absolutely faithfully..that is not a problem with me. I just have to know how to do it right. I am learning!

I was accustomed to having a *Wagon Report* at my lowcarb board where many of us posted our menus for others to critique or just see that we have been *good*. I hope you don't mind, but I think I will do that here in my posts as I am learning the SB woe. Perhaps some of you will see things at times and give me pointers.

Good morning everyone

Just a quickie as I haven't time to read all of the board.

Quilter - If you make the granola bars just be careful how big you make the serving sizes

Gracious - Welcome to the board. It's good to see another Canuck on board.

BKM - Congrats on the 26 pounds loss. That's a great achievement also great news that you can reduce your insulin requirements. I'll keep two of the chocolate bars for you. The price is $2.99C each plus tax which comes to $2.15 US.

Deb - That was a near mishap you had this morning. You had a right to be pissed. It must have scared the heck out of you. I'll keep two of the choc bars for you. That leaves me with two more bars if anyone wants them. I can buy more if necessary or keep the others for myself if no one wants them.

Gotta run. Have tons to do this morning before going to work this afternoon. Hope to get back on when I get home at midnight.

Marie.

Lurker checking in to say Hi.

Gracious, thanks for posting your food choices - gives me a better idea of SB plan. I think my brain is in overload lately. I read Sugar Busters, Schwartzbein, Glucose Revolution and Fat Flush all at the same time. I badly need a defrag!

This is such a motivating Board - now that BOB has blown my cover with my low carb pals, I may pop in more often.

Might even horn in on Chat one of these nights.

Good Morning Everyone!

I just got back from teaching a Lenten Bible Study class and am just settling in with my coffee. A quci stop here is necessary before I begin the rest of the day's work!

My topic this morning was "fasting." As most of you know my Lenten fast is strict observence of my SB nutritional habits. This year I am working especially hard on portion control. When I first began this WOE I feared being hungry more than anything. Now I welcome the feeling. It has been quite an interesting experience to learn to listen to my body. I still have to fight the urge to eat everything in sight--especially SB legal foods, but the hunger pangs do force me to realize that I've never been truly hungry in my entire life and there are people out there who don't know from day to day whether they will have enough to eat. If I can learn to listen to my body, to provide it the fuel it needs without overfeeding it, then maybe I can also take the money I will save on the Junk food and help someone who is truly hungry. Somehow, when this is not just about me, my fast takes on a deeper meaning and becomes something I welcome rather than dread.

Ruth--welcome, basically all of these are the same--adopt low glycemic nutritional habits and you will be healthier in the long run (not the mention thinner).

Gracious--welcome also! I think your menu looks pretty good, maybe some more veggies, and maybe I'd take the omlet down to 2 eggs or simply egg whites. I don't count fat grams (or grams of anything for that matter), but I do try not to overdo the fatty foods. All the eggs with all the cheese may be a bit too much.

Vesnoid--Congrats on the Slovenia medal. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to be able to bear to watch the ladies figure skating tonight.

Deb--glad you managed to miss the car cause it sounds like it didn't want to miss you! I also think that's great that the woman stopped you to ask about your transformation. The women I was with this morning were also talking about my weight loss and asking what I was doing. One of them was my Dr.'s wife--so I was preaching the low-glycemic gospel!

Kim--It sounds like you have had quite a usy few days. I hope DH gets it all straightened out--he sounds like a genius! Gosh I can't imagine taking these girls for the weekend! Actually they were really great. But keeping up with one 13-year old in NYC last summer was hard enough--I can't imagine keeping track of 4!

Nascar--you leave my Jeffie-poo alone! :^: Actually what goes around comes around because the same thing happened to him on that next to the last restart. I thought about you there--hope the trip was good!

BKM--WOW! You are really doing yourself some good with your new nutritional habits! Congrats!

Hello to everyone else--must go work now.

Rosalie - I know what you mean about the protein powder. :p I actually found one that tastes good (well in my breakfast shake). It's called Aria and comes in vanilla flavor. It's much better than the veggie protein powder I had, and gives the shake a nice vanilla touch. It has soy in it, so they tout it as being for Women! I think it has some other "women" vitamins too.

Debelli - so glad you're alright. Nobody ever looks while driving! Arizona is one of the top 5 states where people run red lights. I'm not talking about a fudge between yellow and red, the darn thing IS RED! It' horrible to listen to the traffic report in Phoenix (all the fatalities everyday). Tucson is less aggressive. But, I LOL when Tucson claimed to be bicycle friendly (only on the UA campus!) My pet peeve is the people who back up without looking (don't know how many times I've almost been hit). Maybe that's why jogging suits are in neon. I think you should put one of those bicycle strobe lights on your jogging clothes. They can't miss that! :D

I just got a great compliment from my DH! He's standing behind me and says: "Is your butt getting smaller? It doesn't look as wide" So I guess he's noticing. I'm doing pretting good eating wise and keeping up with the exercise. Some days I need to get more water in tho.

DEBELLI I'm glad you're ok. I was hit when I was a teenager. Not fun. Guy said he couldn't see me--I'm 5'7". Some drivers are in such a hurry they don't think anyone may be walking. That's really great that someone noticed how all your hard work has payed off and wanted to know how you did it.

GRACIOUS Welcome to the board from one Canadian to another. I admire your food journaling. I can barely remember to write down what I eat, let alone break it all down. It's nice to see your menus. It gives us more ideas for things to eat.

RUTH Glad to see you post here again. Pretty soon we'll have as many Canuks as there are Floridians LOL

ROSALIE I was in Ambrosia this afternoon and no agave :( I'm trying to pick up a few bottles at a time from there whenever possible cause I don't know about the order from BC.

 HI to everyone I missed.

Gotta go. Getting some beef and barley soup ready for dinner.

I am controlling my urges much better today. I have been eyeing that box of home-made oatmeal cookies, but... I'll go for the nuts.

Rosalie - Thanks for the recipes. I will make some of the bars, and perhaps I can find the company that Tree mentioned for a better tasting protein powder.

Debbie - WHAT A BUMMER! I also think you should wear something in NEON color. I was in Old Navy not too long ago, and they had all sorts of running gear - in pink and green. I thought it to be rather tacky, but now I can definitely see the benefit. Apart from adding a large strobe to your gear, try also one of those blaring horns. That could also have more than one use:lol: Rosalie sent me some protein bar recipes, so I will try them first. If you have something that could be shipped or could hold outside the fridge for at least 2 weeks, I would also love to have that recipe.
Also - thanks about he Carbolite information. I heard the expression before, but just didn't connect it with my goodies.
We live, we learn...:dizzy:

BKM - Congratulations! I will quote your accomplishments to the Non-believers!! You must feel really good about your hard work!

QUILTER - EEE! You have such optimism in dealing with those machines! I teach a computer class, and it is just one mishap after another. I hope you get all set up and running - and stay that way! It is more true with computers than with dieting - it's the maintenance that will finally drive you bonkers!

Wow... I've been so busy I haven't been on the computer for days!! What a WEEK!!!
A girl at work was staying in a shelter with her 10 month old baby girl, and moved in to a friends home, who then decided it cramped her style to have a baby around and told her to go back to the battered women's shelter.... well... I can't handle that... I've been there. Sooooo... I moved her and the baby in here with DH's FULL support. She's working full time where I work, and will have the $$ for her own place within 3 months...we set up a budget and a timeline, so there will be no hurt feelings.

Anyway... I did my usual weigh in after bowling Saturday night, and found that I was down 2 more pounds to my MARCH 25th GOAL of 190!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited... I haven't been this light since 1996!!! Wow... I am so proud of myself!

I've done great OP... just having a hard time getting in ENOUGH food, and less junk... this was an exceptional week when you consider in the stress factor, though... so I'm just glad the snacks and sweets I ate were even legal!!

Tomorrow is one month OP, and I'm happy to report that I feel wonderful! I haven't had the time to cook any of the sweet goodies I got ingredients for, because of everything going on.

I read most of the messages, and want to say WTG to all of you, and sorry I've been MIA this week! I have been slacking on my walking, but with rearranging furniture, moving kids stuff into one room, DEEP cleaning to make room... I think I've worked off quite a few calories. Also...the new RM (roommate) wants to WALK with me!!! Finally someone to motivate my big ol butt to get up and GO!

Hope everyone is doing great, and I'm gonna MAKE the time to be here to check in more often... :)

DEB - I resisted the urge to buy a scale... so many less depressing things to do with thirty bucks ;)

I have 2 cases of Agave coming too... so that should be good for me for a while!

See you all later :)

Evening All:wave:

Thought I'd get in a post before tonight's chat and while the big boy is in the kitchen making his wonderful EGGPLANT DISH that I love! He's also going to make a SWISS CHARD SOUP WITH LENTILS that's delicious as well-he's gotten a cold and loves soup when he's feeling under the weather. Even as he doesn't feel good he's still in there cooking-I offered to make the soup for him-he said he'd do it-I've made it before and it's come out good, but I guess with the way he's feeling he doesn't want to chance it that this time I'd screw it up!

Went to the HFS today and found some of the new AUNT GUSSIES cookies. I've bought them in the past but they came out with a new version of a biscotti and of course, I had to buy them! Also got some of the HODGSON MILLS WW EGGLESS NOODLES which I'd been looking for-want to make a noodle kugel one day. Oh yes, and I picked up 2 more cases of agave-which at this point, I think I'm set for the next 2 years! :^: Better safe, than sorry.

We ended up (where else) Ole Ole and then Carbolite which was NY CHEESECAKE & VANILLA. They are going to have COCONUT come this weekend, so I'll surely be treking over there at somepoint for a LARGE!:s:

Thanks for all your caring about this morning. It made me realize that I really have to get some ID on me. I had looked at a website before we our meeting in Jan. and I think I may just have to treat myself to one of these ID TAGS. Check out the site and tell me what you think-or if you know of a site that has something similar and cheaper (you know, always looking for that bargain!):

http://www.roadid.com/products.asp

You know, I just have to tell you all how wonderful you truly are! I go to the Sweetalk Board once in a while to see what's going on there and there's so much discontent over there, bickering, removal of posts if you say anything they don't like-it's sometimes downright terrible. I feel so blessed that we have such a wonderful group of people on our board who don't bikker, fight, etc-we truly are a wonderful group!!!:D

VES, CONGRATS to SLOVENIA! I was actually watching the Olympics at that time when he was skiing and was thinking about you. They must be going nuts in the country!!! LOL! Once you get to know me you know I go for comfort, not style! I don't wear your typical workout wear, but instead, black leggings and black T-shirts that are entirely waaaay toooo bigggg on me (XL). Nope, it was hard enough to get me to buy white sneakers this time (which I still despise and hate and ***** at each day I wear them). Hey, I still have 3X nighties I wear! No, you will hear from others on this board that I don't vary much from my usual wardrobe-just the way I am:) As I mentioned above, I do have a strobe (should say WIDE LOAD when it flashes), but only use it when it's dark, it was full bright daylight when I was out this morning. She was just an idiot, and I hope I scared her more than she scared me. I don't think know if any bars using agave would keep out for 2 weeks without the use of preservatives of somekind. I've made cookies and after a week or so out of the fridge, they were molding, but then again, I haven't tried something that has only things like nuts & oats in them. LMK if any of those recipes are good that ROSALIE sent you.

GRACIOUS, you may like the program that I have if you like to keep details like stats and measurments, etc. It's called the WEIGHT COMMANDER PROGRAM and you can download a trial copy-if you like it, it's only $9.99 and the guy give you the download and you send him a check. I use mine every day, but not to it's fullest capacity-I like it. I couldn't agree with you more about SB being healthier than Atkins-I could never in my right mind eat that much fat-even when I was fat, it was sugar that was the culprint for me (and some fat as well). We have a FOOD FOR THOUGHT BOARD where you can post your daily menus for others to see. Here's the link: http://64.119.161.199/forum/showthread.php?threadid=13154 Hey, you can still have some yummies, like DEBS CRUSTLESS CHEESECAKE that I have posted on the recipe board. It's delicious and totally SB LEGAL (when eaten in a small quantity and not the almost entire cake, as I was doing). When I look at some of the low carb cheesecakes, I just about die when I see the fat content-it's unbelievable! I'm going to say that the menu you posted just doesn't have enough calories still. Have you tried entering your info on a site like www.fitday.com just to see what the ratios are???

ROSALIE, thanks for offering the chocolate, I'll take those 2 bars happily-just let me know the damage when we see each other.

RUTH, you should come around more often-more Canuks are invading the board-they need your presence!!!;) Hope you will join us in chat-you know you are more than welcomed to do so at any time. Have never heard of the FAT FLUSH book-what's it about??

FILLISE, isn't it wonderful to see how far you've come, to realize how you were in the past and to see how you've evolved over the past year! You too were recognized on how well you've been doing by your Dr.'s wife-how long has it been since she's seen you?

TREE, well, it was broad daylight out when I went, so even a strobe wouldn't of done any good, but I actually do have one to use when the time changes and it's dark early when I go. People are just in a hurry, talking on their cell phones/passengers and they just don't pay attention.

ZANNE, it should be YOU BUTT IS GETTING SMALLER!!!!! I honestly don't think this girl would of seen me any differently whether I was
5 1 1/2 or if I was 5 11 1/2! She wasn't paying attention.

BETH, you are a true friend and I hope this gal appreciates the sacrafices you are making to help her out-that is so sweet of you!!!!:D CONGRATULATIONS on the 2lb loss and making your March goal over a month early-WOO HOO! You are doing so well and you SHOULD be proud of yourself-I'm surely proud of you!!! Keep up the great work, or I should say, losses!!! Hey, and CONGRATS on tomorrow's 1 MONTH SB ANNIVERSARY!!!

Well gals, hope to see you at CHAT TONIGHT AT 9:15PM EST Here's the link to get to the chat area:

I have been using FITDAY.com and I just can't get that darn fat down where it's supposed to be!
Right now (with my stomach full and almost busting at the seams;) ) I managed to get this ratio (had to eat cookies to get my carbs up!)
Total Calories:1509 (is that enough?)
33% Fat
43% Carb
25% Protein

Remember those oatmeal cookies I baked this weekend? Well, I calculated exactly how much per cookie and of what I am eating. Here it comes:
50 ckal
0.42 g fat, 11.8 Carb, 0.9 Fiber, 5.75g Sugar (Agave, of course), 0.92 Protein.
As you can see, they are almost fat free. I am thinking about decreasing the Agave content, to get the sugar down, but then I don't know if they will be sticky enough. Perhaps I could add more apple butter? I didn't count any type of nuts in my calculations.
Anyway, I bought egg whites today to have those for breakfast instead of eggs. Those things (eggs) have sooo much fat in them!

Deb - I went to the store and bought one of those waist belts -If I am going to be walking 3.5 miles, alone, I better have my cell phone with me and perhaps some other goodies. Ricky might deter someone, but if something happens to either of us, I want to be able to call for help. Do you carry a water bottle with you? I have one for Ricky, but I don't think I will take it with me, because it is too cumbersome. It flops around and bounces off my butt! If I have one for me, Ricky adn I could share (he drinks from my hand, of course:smug: ) Thanks for mentioning the mounding. I will put the cookies in the fridge right away!
You are so right about the Sweettalk board. It is so disorganized. I noticed there are some people who stick around, but in general, the atmosphere is not even close to being as nice as here. Must be our moderator...

Beth - How very nice of you to help out your friend. What a trooper! See, now you have a walking buddy, perhaps a coffee buddy, not to mention a happy mother with a baby! Ahh...;)

O.K. I hope to come to the talk tonight (if I don't forget, or....one of my shows is truly spectacular tonight. O.k. I'll come and have a peak)See you around!

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone:wave:

I haven't gone for my walk/jog yet-very windy outside with a threat of rain looming overhead. Waiting a few minutes to see if it will blow over quickly so I can go. If I wait to long I know I won't go.

TOM finally hit me last night-5 days late. Wasn't worried, just don't like how it wreaks havoc on my system and use to not being late these days (funny how I use to think it was unusual to get period on time years ago).

Well, TODAY IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!! I hope you all faired well this week. Personally, I'm still up from my lowest, but happy to still be within my cushion!!:spin: I'm at 122.5 today:)

Thanks to all of you who joined me in the chat room-always fun!!!:D

Poor Eli:( is still sick-he's going to work but hopes someone will be able to take over his shift. He shouldn't go in, but you can't tell him that!!!

I forgot to post this little tip I read the other day that I thought was worth passing along-esp. for those of us who've been making my CRUSTLESS CHEESECAKE recipe. It says, when cutting a creamy cake is difficult to use DENTAL FLOSS! (just make sure it's not minted or flavored). To hold a piece taught over the cake and bring straight down and then pull it out (not up). What a great idea! Guess who's bringing dental floss to the SB GET TOGETHER next month!;)

VES, oh my gosh, girl, you look like a model!!!!! Thanks for posting that pic!!! Your stats on FITDAY are just fine! Don't worry about it being exact, you will never get it exact. Your fats are close enough to 30%, sometimes I'm way over myself. The cookies sound good-but just how many are you eating in a day-THAT'S the big question. I rarely eat real eggs and use Egg Beaters-they're pretty good. One thing I found out is they taste a lot better in a regular stainless steel pan than one that's non-stick. I top mine with lf cheese, yummy!!! I do have a water bottle on my fanny pack. It's bulky yes, but you REALLY need to have water with you, esp. here in Florida and esp. during the hot months. It also helps you from slowing down from the heat-def. get one to take with you. If you don't want a actual bottle, I had found some that go on your wrist, but to me, that seems a little cumbersome. There are also ones you can put on your back. Whatever, you do need water!!!

FROG!!!! http://members.aol.com/debelli/woo_hoo.jpg What wonderful news!!!! I'm so happy for you!!!!

That's it for me, for now. Will check in with you all later, have some errands to run this afternoon. Oh, Eli's boss just called and told him to stay home-YEAH! Do or die, I'm going to make him that soup today!!!

Please remember, TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY!!! If you have any good SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share with the board, please, try to post them tomorrow!

Have a great day!

Hey everybody. Just have a few minutes before I head off to work. I already ate and drank this morning and forgot to weigh. Honest, that's the truth. No kidding. Seriously. Okay, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL

Just a couple of quickies:

FROG---CONGRATS, you rascal, on getting to another all-time-new low!!!! Awesome job!!! You must be feeling great and you really deserve a pat on the back for getting up so early to get to the gym. SEE . . . that sacrifice is alrelady paying off.

VESNOID---Ricky is adorable!!! He reminds me a lot of my Maddie girl. He's got that same shepherd smiling face. What a cutie-pie!!! And you're a doll too. Glad you are with us. Sorry I missed so much of the chat last night. Just call me space cadet Kim.

Okay, girls and Daramus!!! Let's go out there and make it a GREAT day. I am feeling full and fat today. Got the elastic waist pants working for sure today. Ugh. Depressing.

Take it easy.

Okay....you know how I switched from 4 months on Atkins to SugarBusters 13 days ago. I started SB weighing 169 and this morning I am 166!!! I was in total shock. I have never gotten past 168 since I began Atkins. I am so utterly thrilled that SB is working for me!

I am now convinced that the reason I ended up stalling on Atkins for 2 months was the fat intake. I was so faithful to Atkins it is not even funny. Now that I am *aware* of the fat, I can't believe how much of it I was consuming. The full fat dressings, cheese, creams, nuts, etc. It is true it helps you feel satiated, but it obviously slowed down my loss. I would rather eat less fat, but have fruit and grains.

I am going about this in a more *scientific* method. It is a shame I can't use fitday with my crumby computer, but I do it all manually myself. I was excellent at counting carbs on Atkins, but everything else fell by the wayside. I now keep track of carbs/protein/fat. I have figured out the proper amounts for myself, according to the SB philosophy and it must be working to see the scale moving again after so long.

What I should be eating on SB as a min. based on 1400 cals/day:

40% carbs-140 grams/day for me
30% fat-46.6 grams/day for me
30% protein-105 grams/day for me

Here is what I ate yesterday:

Tuesday Feb 19th

Breakfast:
apple
triscuits (6)
1 oz light colby cheese

Snack:
organic yogurt
1 tbsp. SF blueberry spread stirred into it
2 oz green pepper

Lunch:
1 piece whole grain rye bread
1/2 tsp butter spread on it
1 oz light colby
1/2 cup chick peas
1/2 cup green beans

Snack: well..afternoon beverage
2 coffee (1/2caf) with cream

Dinner:
T-bone steak (I needed the protein but there is too much fat in it and made me go over my fat for the day-although it was worth it! hehe)
mushrooms
salad & dressing

Snack:
3 dried apricots

Total Carbs:95.99 (was trying for min. 140)
Total Protein:115.77 (was trying for min. 105)
Total Fat:80.82 (was trying for min. 46.6)
Water: 4 litres (16 cups)

So I did pretty good. If it wasn't for that steak I would have been under for my fat count too! The steak was a treat from my hubby so I had to eat it and would do it again in a second.

Obviously the leaner types of meat are better...things like chicken and fish. I would never give up my t-bones though!

Anyways...that is my great SB news!!

Now I am 180/166/154

:D

Hey I'm back. I know I haven't been on the board very long but being away for the past few days I found myself missing all the talk.

Well, my son had a beautiful wedding and now is on his way to Eureka CA where he and his lovely wife(she definately is a keeper) will be going to college for the next 3 years. Oh to be young again. Boy is it hard to have your children leave home.:( You know they need to get on with their life but it sure is hard.

I have read the postings and I think that perhaps maybe the reason that I am stalled at my current weight is because of the combination of what I eat Carbs/Pro/fat. Is there a easy way to figure out what my husband and I should be eating. I notice a website fitday.com that vesniod mentioned. Will that help?

I didn't gain any weight this weekend with all the cheating that I did but I sure would like to loose some more. I know that I need to exercise and plan to start walking in the evenins this week.

Well, I need to get going and get ready for work. I'll post my weight later.

Hope everyone has a great day.:)

Oh ya! Where do you all get the cute little dancing figures and stuff. The smiles are cute, but I like the other things too.

Later,

Hi everybody. I've just been lurking this week. It's the end of the 6 weeks and there's just tooooo much to get done. Anyway, I think someone must have cybersneezed my direction. I've got the crud that some of y'all have had recently. One up side to it is that I don't have much of an appetite.:p I'm still up a couple of pounds, but I know it's from the Valentine candy.:nono: I'm trying to get my walking in too, but the weather around here is too crazy. The low yesterday was 65 and this morning it was 40. :?: Go figure TX weather.

Congrats to all the losers. And welcome to the newbies.

Good Morning All

The scale was down 1/2 pound this morning to 194 1/2 . It was good to see that figure on the new digital scale. Even if it's weighing heavier than my other scale I can see more clearly that I have lost exactly 1/2 pound since the weekend.

My knees have been aching and stiff these last few days. I thought I had strained a muscle at badminton, which may have contributed to it. But I found some improvement when I worked yesterday after being off for a few days. I think being off too long and not doing much walking may have affected them. They are often stiff after I have been sitting for a while but once I get moving things improve. So I've decided I need to get back to doing the stationary bike, which I haven't done for quite a well. When I was using it frequently before I did find that my knees felt better. Sometimes I just forget all about it when I have so many other things to do.

Gracious - Congrats on the loss. Glad to see that sb is working for you. Sometimes we just need a change to get things moving. Your menus look good. I see that you have added more veggies. One of the good things about sb is that there are so many foods that we can eat.

Frog - Congrats on your new low.

BusDeb - Hope you have a great time in Gatlinburg this weekend. That's a fab place to visit. I just love that area.

Vesnoid - Congrats to Slovenia for getting the Bronze medal.

Deb - I will save THREE choc bars for you as you requested, not two as I said in my post yesterday. Sorry to hear that Eli is not feeling well. Hope he's able to get some time off work. I want to make the Crustless Cheescake but I only have the dark agave. Have you tried it with the dark, or do you always use the light one? Do you think it would be o.k. with the dark?

Tree - Thanks for the info about the protein powder although I don't use it for myself. The stuff I bought before was at the request of my son to make the protein bars. He has been buying another brand which he uses for shakes. I haven't had any more requests for the bars. :)

Beth - I am glad you are able to help your friend through a difficult time. And congrats on the 2 pounds down.

Quilter - Sounds like you and Paul have had a busy time this week. Hope things are settling down for you.

Sef - Sorry to hear about all the aches and pains you have to put up with. I know your positive attitude will see you through the difficult times. Some women at work the other day were discussing the use of magnetic bracelets for numbness and tingling in hands and arms. A couple of them reported having positive results with them although I don't know if any of them had carpal tunnel or other problems. Anyway just thought I would mention it.

Good luck to everyone for WIW.

Marie.

This is my first time posting here - I've been hanging around the Sweet Talk board and Deb invited to stop by. She was right, you guys do keep things on a much more personal note.

I started SB on 1/16/02 and as of today have lost 20 pounds. I am excited so far and surprised since I have been "winging it". Yes I have read the book but have not figured out all the technical stuff involving measuring and calculating. I never realized how bad of an eater I was - a true northern meat, potatoes and a roll kinda gal.

My husband is in the Navy and is about to leave on a 6+month cruise and I hope to have a new body for him to come home to. He is also trying to follow the SB WOE but on the ship he is stuck eating whatever they serve.

ONLY 8 DAYS TILL REGISTRATION FOR THE WDW MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON!!!!!!!!!!

ONLY 16 DAYS TILL MARIE VISITS O-TOWN AND THE FLA SB LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARE Y'ALL AS EXCITED AS I AM?!?!? I SURE HOPE SO!!!!!!!!!! :D

I truly can't believe it's almost here - I'm so excited about both events I could just burst!

Our new analyst started today and we're showing him the ropes and totally overwhelming him with information.

I weighed in at 198.5 this morning and since I've been wavering back and forth I can't remember if this is a loss (again) or not. I'll get excited when I'm back to 195 and trying to catch back up with Marie.

My ankle is still bothering me and I'm tired of looking like a total GOOBER in my business clothes and tennis shoes. I haven't been walking at all between Vince being sick, me feeling puny all week-end and Monday and my ankle. I'm going to have some massive catch up work to do when I can start walking again. Tonight I'm going to do some weight training even if my ankle is killing me. If my ankle feels alright then I may do some mileage on the big butt bike as well.

DEBBIE - Glad that jerk-wad didn't totally run you over! Vince gets so peeved about that kind of stuff - everyone seems to think that where THEY are going is more important than where anyone else is going these days!

FROG - WOOO HOOOO!!! HOT DIGGITY DOG!!! YOU CONTINUE TO INSPIRE ME, GIRLFRIEND!!

MEL - CONGRATS on your successes!

VESNA - CONGRATS ON THE SLOVENIAN MEDAL! I was doing a jig in my living room when he won - could you feel the earth shaking over in your neighborhood? You could come walk around our loop even without me - it's safer and I'd love for someone else with a fanny pack of supplies and water bottles to be walking over there - makes me less of a spectacle, ya know? Loved our chat and can't wait to get together with you!

BKM - WAY TO GO!! YOU'RE GOING TO BE THE POSTER CHILD FOR HEALTHY LIVING AT YOUR OFFICE!!

NASCAR - OMG!! What a thrilling race!! I couldn't believe all the crashes! I was glued to the set for the entire race (except for the parts I slept through  ) I made Vince promise to not call me during the race so he called right before it started to make sure I had my supplies and was locked in and ready to go.

MARIE - COUNTING DOWN!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR OFFER ON THE CHOCOLATE!! I'm gonna pass on the though - as much as I would like to have some - I'm going to follow Deb's advice and try to stay away from legal sweets until I can get the scale moving back down again. I don't wanna just walk the half marathon - I want to look good doing it!

FILLISE - I think it's wonderful how you do so much for your neice and the youngsters in your circle of influence. Some of my best memories growing up are the times adults who didn't HAVE to take an interest in me and my life spent time doing nice things with and for me growing up. At the top of that list are many teachers and 'chaperones' from church youth group outings. My parents were favorites for many of the kids and they were invited to my h.s. reunions because of the impact they've had on so many lives.

BETH - So glad to hear your good news! I second the motion on what a good friend you are, too!

WELCOME TO THE NEWBIES!!! Things will slow down soon (I hope!) and I'll be able to get to everyone.....until then  have a great day, everyone!!!

Well I am a happy person. I am down 2 lbs since last week. I wasn't sure after this weekend.
YAHOO!!:)

Pooch - Welcome. I am new to this board too. Everyone has been very helpful. I am still trying to get the hang of calculating too. My daughter's husband is in the navy too and he just returned in Sept from a 6mo. cruise. How many cruises has your husband been on? I know it never was very fun for my daughter. She spent alot of time on the computer talking with her husband. I am sure that makes it alot easier.

Frog - Congrat on your loss. :)

gracious - It is good to hear that you are having great results on the SB WOE. My office manager is going to start on Atkins and I can't convince her to go on SB. Maybe after she continues to see my results and I can tell her about you she'll switch over. What a great loss. Keep it up.

music teach - I can relate to the ups and downs in the temps. I live in the Mojave Desert and it can be as high as 70 in the day and as low as 30 at night. Alot of us tend to get sick during this time of the year because of it. Hope you feel better soon.

Beth2374 - You should be proud of yourself. You have accomplished alot in a very short time. It sounds as if you are very busy. Keep up the good work.:)

I need to get back to work. Talk to you all later. I hope to post a picture soon so you can see who you are talking to. I know that alway helps me.

Have a great night.

Good afternoon everyone!

I've been with a client all morning and this is my first chance to get on the board. Tomorrow won't be any better since I have to be in Montgomery all day.

First business--240. The doughnuts are coming off! Still three up from my all-time low. That's a plateau I can't wait to break!

So far so good today. I had a cheese omlet and bacon for breakfast, and a salad and soup for lunch. Tonight is dinner at church and they aren't having a thing I can eat. So I'm going to come home and cook a steak when I finish. I've also had some dried apricots for a snack. This is my new favorite snack. I especially like it because I can carry some with me for "emergencies." Kroger is also carrying individual 1 oz packages of cheddar cheese--they are 5 for $1.00. I can slip those in my purse too and have something for late afternoon munchies.

I don't have time to respond to everyone today--just congratulations to all you losers out there in SB land!

Hello Everyong!

I haven't been on the board in a couple of days. I've been really busy plus glued to the tv for Olympics during the evening.

Congratulations to all of you that have lost this week. I am actually up another pound making me up 2.5 pounds. I have been going up and down from 275 to 277.5 the past couple of weeks. I sure hope I start losing again soon.

Hope everyone has a great evening.

Hi all -

It's been the usual busy around here. At least I'm able to sit and type a little bit now. Thanks for the concern!--I think the worst is over! Just thought I'd pass on this tip from Real Age:

Do you want to boost the rate at which your body burns calories? Then work out with weights.

Research shows that a weight-training program can boost your metabolic rate, causing your body to burn more calories throughout the day. In one study, participants experienced a significant increase in their resting metabolic rates after 20 weeks of weight training.

I had my DH buy a set of weights last weekend at Sports Authority. He got a really good deal. Now I just have to start using them:)

A good evening to you all!

Karen

I used to read about people losing their hair when they were on lowcarb diets like Atkins. I thought it was interesting but didn't pay much attention. You see, I have very long, thick hair that seems to present no problems.

Curiously enough, or perhaps sadly...I discovered about 3 weeks ago that my hair was simply filling my hairbrush every time I used it. I am used to hair in my brush, but after one brushing it would look like I had not cleaned it for a week! I was not happy. I also put my hair in a braid and it is very thick. When I wrap my thumb and forefinger around it, they barely touch...at least that is how it used to be. Now I can easily get them overlapping! :(

Having said all that, has anyone here ever had this problem or heard of it with people doing SB?

:?:

I am hoping not since it seems to be a more balanced way of eating. I do take supplements daily as well.

Hey All!

I had good intentions of getting on and replying to a few more people today but had some stuff to do that took longer than I thought.

Weigh in today was not good  I'm still at 165. I guess it's better than a gain. At least I think I maintained. I've been hovering between 163 and 165. It's my first cycle off BCP and I feel "puffy". I'll just have to work harder.

FOR ALL THOSE WHO WILL BE MEETING MARIE IN ORLANDO PLEASE HELP! I just got word from the place in B.C. that they are unable to get any agave to ship (their supplier has discontinued it!!!) Is there any way someone could get their hands on 2 cases for me??? Marie has graciously offered to bring some back for me. It'll give us an excuse to meet! If someone can get it and let me know the price, I can try to give the money to Marie BEFORE she goes.

I'm gonna try to go from memory here (computer is not co-operating for me to see the whole thread), so if I get a fact wrong, please forgive me and correct me.

BKM WTG! I am so happy for you that you can decrease your meds and that your tests are good! 26lbs is amazing!

BETH How wonderful you are to help out your friend!

FROG WTG on your new low! You're an inspiration!

POOCH Welcome to the board!

CONGRATS to all the losers

HANG IN THERE all the maintainers and gainers. We'll have our turn at losses!

Gotta go now. I hope to get back tomorrow to reply to a few more people!

Still :D ing from my WIW results! DH is at a meeting so it's a little quiet at the moment.

Have some kinda FUNKY rash on my upper arms and chest. Showed it to doc at work and he seemed to think it was viral vs. a form of contact dermatitis. Will take another Benadryl at bedtime tonight.

Went to the gym last night (aerobic) and again this morning (lower body workout). Feeling good but I'm tired. Had my body fat percentage taken with the skin callipers at the gym last night. The guy who took them was great and very encouraging. The interesting thing is the numbers he got weren't far off of the new scale that I have.

Kitty has just joined me and now DH is home so she is getting down. Puppy is jumpy when DH isn't home.

DEB - Are yout shoes to narrow across the top of your foot, where it's hurting? Give Eli a get well hug from all of us. Hey! Thanks for the "WooHoo!" How did you get that in the middle of your post? Belinda Wannabe has decided that she will try WW because of the portion control and limits that she can adhere to. I hope that she will find what works for her and be happy.

GRACIOUS - Welcome. Great that you are down 1! I agree with Mel about the exercise. If you are looking for ways to enhance your workouts you may want to try Body for Life (BFL) something that several of us here are doing. Peek in a book at a local bookstore and see What you think!

KAREN - Good article about exercise today. And true too! A bigger furnace (muscle) uses more fuel (calories).

ZANNE - Do you think your muscle is building and your fat is burning and that is why you aren't seeing a loss on the scale?

NASCAR - Glad you're home and had fun at the race!

FILLISE - Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Lent. I know what you mean about being close to your lowest weight. Hang in there girl, it feels great!

BETH - WTG on helping your friend out. Congrats on your loss.

RED1 - Glad the wedding went off WITH a hitch! Congrats on your loss.

ROsALIE - Not long before your US trip. You'll love getting together with the FL ladies. They're a great group. Congrats on your loss. I have a new digital scale too and I love it!

POOCH - Welcome!

SOL - Boy howdy this count down is flying! Let's talk about the registration as it gets closer. I am sorry to hear that your foot is still ailing you! DH's is too, from the marathon. He's going to the podiatrist on Fri. Perhaps you should really give it a rest and ride the bike or do the elliptical trainer at the gym until it heals.

Well, that's all for now. Gonna go take a bene and try to stop this itchy rash!

Have a great evening all!

BTW - that's a whole wheat macaroni doing the "MAC-O-RENEE!"

Peace,
FROG

HEY EVERYONE!!! I'M BACK!!!!!!!!:D

Ok ladies - control your excitement! HAHA! How the **** are y'all?!? I have missed you all sooooo much!! It sucked having my computer out of commission all that time!! Good thing I was able to e-mail BOB and keep up with someone!! I couldn't even get on here and do my victory dance for the Sugar Bowl!!! Geaux Tigers!

Well, first of all I want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers - thankfully my surgery went well - I know BOB gave y'all the scoop and has been keeping you all informed - thanks BOB:D

I wish I could say that I lost 40 pounds while I was absent from the board but you know me....when I'm away from the board - I'M AWAY FROM THE PLAN! :nono: I definately can't say that I've been good. I told my hubby tonight that I feel like I'm about to bust out of my skin! UGH! You know the feeling.....He has actually gained a few pounds himself - he still looks good though - but he doesn't "feel" good. So, we decided that we will do the plan together - which helps me tremendously. We are starting Monday . I'll go get all of my OP food this weekend. We vowed now that I'm feeling better to walk at least 3 nights after I tutor. I'm just so TIRED after I tutor!!:dz:

Now that I'm "all cleaned out" I've GOT to lose some weight so that I can see my fertility specialist. You know, he doesn't want to see me until I lose weight - *******! I know it's better for me! Anyway, we do start adoption classes this April, but we are not giving up hopes for one of our own. So, I'll do 6 months of depolupron shots and then get on the pill till I take off this weight. Then I'll go see Dr. I'mtotallyobsessedwithyourweight! Did you get that?!? HA! I'm so bad!

So, ladies, I'm sure there are a bazillion new people that I will enjoy getting to know and to all of you oldies but goodies....I can't wait to catch up on your scoop! Hope everyone is doing well......Love you!

Visiting home for my Aunt's funeral who died of diabetes at 72 years of age, family discussion touched upon diet, and fat and sugar eating. My cousin mentioned a book called "Sugar Blues" by William Dufty. So I read it. This prompted me to buy "Get the Sugar Out" by Ann Louise Gittleman.

I am now completely, and totally SUGAR-FREE. I pulled the garbage can up to the fridge and threw away ALL the sugar and products with sugar. There was a lot, 2 trips to the dumpster. Ketchup, Salad Dressing, Flour, Rice, Bread, Mayonaise, Lunch Meat, Soda Pop and Juices, and all those products hiding sugar in the ingredients are gone. My house is 100% sugar-free, as far as refined white sugar, and all its hidden forms is concerned. I have meat, vegetables, real fruit (in moderation) and real brown rice, whole grain bread, nuts, legumes.

After two weeks, my tastebuds have completely changed. I can hardly stand to eat very much salt at all. Everything is too salty to me, so now I'm automatically eating less salt. Other spices, like garlic, oregano, cumin, cinnamon, and those subtle taste have come alive. Bursts of flavor erupt in my mouth. Eating is an incredible experience of flavor. I'm completely satisfied after eating less, and I don't get hungry again for a long time. I can actually make it more than a couple hours after a meal without cravings and feeling hungry again. And speaking of cravings...., I don't have them anymore. All my cravings, as weird as they are sometimes, are completely gone. I don't crave a certain food at weird times and weird places. I'm enjoying a much larger variety of food and taste sensations.

Like I said, two weeks, and I'm already changing. I weigh in at 290 lbs. and am really looking forward to what other changes come my weigh. This isn't a diet. It's a completely different way to eat and live. It's also a lot of fun to try to think of different combinations of foods to tantalize those flavor centers that have been dead so long...

I'll keep you updated...

BTW: I love what you've done with the place. The website and forum are all great and full of great info. Thanks.

OYE! I just hit a key and my entire post disappeared!!!!!!!:(

Here I go again!!!

Had an unexciting day today. Needless to say, as I had imagined, I didn't get my walk in. TOM hit full force, and I was having a wonderful back ache, something I very rarely have. Thought about going tonight, but when I've done so in the past, very hard for me to have time to recoup for the morning run and I don't do well at all-so I took the day off.

Eating has actually been good today-at least it will be if I stay out of the kitchen the rest of the night! I'm very bloated though-feel like the MICHELIN MAN! LOL! But, I've been a baaad girl, only thing I've had to drink all day long is a glass of milk-no desire to drink anything today and I know that's bad for me:^:

Eli went to the Dr. today and he's now on antibiotics and feeling lots better:D

QUILTER, that's a darned good excuse-so stick to it girl!;) Glad you were able to make it to chat, even if only for a few minutes!!

GRACIOUS, CONGRATULATIONS!! WOO HOO!!! That's wonderful news! Isn't it just amazing to see how much fat you were probably consuming on Atkins:eek: If you can watch your fats, you'll be seeing a great difference, not only in the scale, but the way you'll feel. Just remember, don't get discouraged if you see a gain one week, as long as you are OP it's more than likely hormonal and if you're patient, it will go back down. As for the hair, I think that may be more due to your Atkins diet. As long as you are following SB correctly, it can't be from this-it's healthy and you aren't cutting out any food groups like Atkins. I'm not a Dr, that's for sure, but if it becomes more of a concern, you may want to get your blood taken to see if there's something else going on.

ZANNE, I know I can get it for you, would be maybe .10 cents more a bottle I think than BIGK can get it-I would suggest you e-mail BIGK directly if you want her to get it, if not, I have no problem in trying to get it from my HFS, but let me know before Wed of next week, that's when they place their orders, and it comes in usually on Fridays-that would be the only time I could get it because the following week I'll be going to Orlando!!! Ummm, where was the link for the WD article-or let me know and I'll post it up-didn't even think about looking for it on line.

FROG, you should be smiling!! I really was so thrilled to see your WIW results today, you have no idea! I don't think they are too tight-they didn't bother me until recently, and it's only the right foot. It's like they are tied too tight and I keep trying to loosen them and it doesn't help. I'm hoping tomorrow will be okay-maybe that foot was retaining water, or something:?: You can do the WOO HOO by putting the gif between [img] and same thing at the end with the slash before the img. I have it loaded on my area on AOL-don't ask me technical things, I haven't a clue how it all works! LOL!! If you want my WOO HOO site, it's http://members.aol.com/debelli/woo_hoo.jpg feel free to use it!!

RED1, glad you are back and to hear the wedding went well. CONGRATS on your 2lb loss!!! It's wonderful your son found a girl you like-I hear horror stories about daughter-in-laws! My suggestion would be to look at the TIPS & TOOLS BOARD, there's a post how to figure out the rations. If you and your DH are moderately active, take your current weight and multiply that number by 12. THEN, take 500 off that number-that's approx. what you should shoot for as far as caloric intake goes a day. Most experts say not to go below 300-700 calories. Then take the number you get and do the ratios, as GRACIOUS did in her post. Fitday.com is a good site to journal your intake and it helps you keep track of your ratios. I personally like doing a paper journal and find using a site like calorieking.com is good for me. The pics you see at the ends of the posts are gifs-thousands of sites. You just have to make sure they are 40K or less and don't exceed the dimensions. Here's a couple sites: http://w3f.com/cgi/dir.cgi?gifs & http://rats2u.com/clipart/animation/calendar_alpha_ai.htm

MUSIC, hope you feel better soon. You're cooling off over there, we're warming up like summer here-I'll take your cooling any day!!!

ROSALIE, CONGRATS on another 1/2lb gone!! Thanks for helping me add to my stash of chocolate!! I think the dark agave would do just fine. I'd probably tell you to do 1/3 cup agave instead of the 1/2 cup. I usually do a 1/2 minus 1 tbl, and with the dark being a bit stronger, I'd do it 1/3. Did you see my tip on the dental floss??? Just remember to try and have a small pan as I did-and good luck in not eating it all like I have!!!

POOCH, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! Glad you've decided to join our crazy bunch! My goodness you are doing wonderful on SB so far-20lbs in a month is awesome!! CONGRATULATIONS!! :D The book can be a bit vague at times, so don't hesitate to ask us questions, we are more than happy to throw you out our 2 cents worth of opinions and advice. DH is going away for 6 months-girl, he's not going to recognize you when he gets home!!!!! Once again, WELCOME!!!

SOL, when you get a chance, would you please e-mail me your telly again-want to chat with you before the get together and do some final plans. I can't wait-very excited to be able to see you and the other gals in just a little over 2 weeks!!!!

FILLISE, glad to see those donuts are sliding out of your body. Three pounds isn't much at all my dear, you'll get below that soon-just stay focused;)

SHEANN, many are glued to the tube for the Olympics, so you're not alone. Don't worry too much about the scale going up and down-that's happened to me more times than I care to admit when I was totally OP and doing everything right-I never gave in and my patience paid off. If you are OP 100%, then don't worry-if not, see what you can improve upon to make the scales go down.

KAREN, thanks for posting that-it's true-wish I could get inspired to do weights, I have no interested (well, that would probably change if I had a good looking hunk, naked, spotting me!!!!)

FRUIT, WELCOME BACK!!!! Glad to hear everything went well and you're doing better. I'm hoping and praying you'll have good news for us in the near future. I'm sure with the surgery and losing weight, there will be little fruit loupes running around in the future. You know we're behind you 100% and are ready to help!!{{HUGS}}

FISH, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! I love the enthusiasm in your post-with such a wonderful attitude and outlook, you're going to do wonderfully on SB!! Get the Sugar Out is a great book, so is her Get the Salt Out. I never read the entire Sugar Blues, but I know Fillise has and I know from all I've read that the refined sugars are NOT good for us. As the time goes by, you'll not only see the weight drop off, but you'll see just how better you are going to feel and look. PLEASE don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have-we are all more than happy to help answer any questions you may have.

REMINDER: If you haven't done so already, please post your BIO on the BIO BOARD when you get the opportunity!!

Gotta run, Michael has homework!!

See you all tomorrow!

I feel like a lurker here. Between work, the gym, trying to eat 6 meals a day, the Olympics, and 1 kid or the other needing/wanting time, attention or money or all three, I've barely read the posts, let alone posted! Don't anybody think that once the kids leave for college they don't still take up your time!

I was totally mixed up this morning and forgot to weigh (yeah, I know I said I wouldn't until the end of the BFL challenge, but weaning myself down to just once a week is an improvement). DS was off from school on Monday and Tuesday, so I had no idea what day it was. Maybe I'll weigh tomorrow, or put it off a week. Eating has actually been going great since the lacrosse dinner pig-out. All that food is either out of the house or frozen solid, so no temptations.

BKM- too bad you are so far away...I have enough leftovers in the freezer for 1/2 a football team or a 1/4 of a really big one:lol: Congrats on lowering your meds. That's a big accomplishement.

All you Orlando bound ladies- I'm so jealous that you all are getting together again! I sure wish I could be in FLA with you, but I'm real excited to be meeting Deb a month later on her turf, and getting to visit my little bro, too.

FROG- :D :D :D :D for you! I don't know how to do that wooo hooo thing and can't find Deb's explanation, hope the smiles suffice. Sounds like you are doing GREAT! You aren't cheating and doing more cardio are you??? I found it really hard to resist at first. I'm valiantly fighting off a cold, and at first couldn't figure out why I was having such trouble with weights that were easy or at least doable last week. It's funny, but that happened before any other symptoms showed up. Hope your itches disappear and you get a good night's sleep with the benedryl. I once had a severe allergic reaction to chondroitin and spent an incredibly relaxing day in the ER hooked to IV benedryl- don't remember much of that day.

Beth- What a wonderful heart you have! What you are doing for your friend is priceless.

Gracious- Maybe the hair loss is still your body reacting to atkins? I had gobs of hair fall out when I was on starvation diets, after each kid was born, and when my thyroid went bonkers. The hair always came back, so don't worry about it.

FISH- You sound like a woman on a MISSION! That must have been some clean-up job. Isn't it amazing what you can taste once the sugar and salt are out of your system? I used to be a salt junkie and don't use it at all now, so everything tastes too sweet and too salty to me.

FRUITLOUPE- Welcome back. Glad to hear your surgery went well and you are felling better. BTW, I got pregnant with #2 after 6 years of trying exactly 1 month after all the endo was cleaned out. Hope it works for you.

POOCH- Welcome!

Well, gotta go. Hello to everybody I've missed, congrats to the losers and keep at it everyone else. DEB-DRINK YOUR WATER! IT HELPS GET RID OF THE BLOATING! I know that doesn't make sense intuitively, but it really does help.

Nite all,

Hi All!
Well 1 pound for me! I guess slow is best (especially when you cheat  ) Ok, today so far so good - I'm shooting for 2 lbs next week!
Welcome to the newbies and the oldbies returning!

Deb: I know this may sound silly, but have you tried wearing thinner socks with your sneakers? If I don't wear thin socks my toes feel like there in a wad when I wear sneakers. I've only discoverd this lately, I always thought thats what toes felt like in sneakers, until one day I had on thin socks and put my sneakers on and couldn't believe how comfortable they were! :dizzy:
Is the pita bread you get better than Toufylan (sp?)? If so, please bring me some. What chocolate bars are everyone talking about? Are they Pure Delight or the ones made by Ross Chocolates out of Canada? What is carbolite that you always speak of, ice cream? When I first started on this site, you mentioned (I think it was you) of the bread bakery in downtown Deland, that made different kinds of breads. Did you want me to bring you any? Also, Deb, I know you like John Edwards - did you know he's going to be in Orlando that weekend that you're here? I think Gainesville one day and Orlando one day. Sure would love to see him, but it gets sold out very quickly!

Uh oh- I can hear Mr. Q-tip man in the cookie jar :o

Rosalie: Are the chocolate bars you are bringing like dark chocolate or milk chocolate? If they are like milk chocolate I would love you to bring me a couple.

BKM: You are going to bring me Agave Syrup right? Your son is a football player for high school or college? My friends son, is the "star" kicker/punter of the high school team here - he is ranked #2 in the state. They are interviewing him on the Sunshine network on MOnday. We're all looking forward to seeing what college he'll end up at. I'm waiting to buy a front license plate for my car until I know where he's going! :)

Gator: Congrats on your loss! Seems to me you must be close to or at goal by now! You guys all have such great will power!

Oh, I have another question about Orlando - Is anyone bringing kids? If Q-tip man has to work, I may have to bring Q-tip boy (that's my skinny husband and skinny son) Any objections? And please, if you really rather no kids, please say, I'll understand.

DS went to the dentist today for his first ever filling. He's just turned 6. He had a blast, and can't wait to go again! They gave him nitrous oxide! :D I sat in the waiting room for an hour a nervous wreck and he came out all smiles wanting me to get him an icee! Go Figure! Next time I want the nitrous oxide!

Ok Kids, well have a great Thursday!

MEL - I'm not cheating and doing extra cardio, just extra abs now and then. I feel like I slug not doing more cardio, but I am trying to get a little on lift days, AND I am really trying hard for those 10's! Had a KILLER LBW this a.m.

Hope you feel better soon. VERY interesting that your first symptoms were muscle weakness. Amazing to me what your body will tell you if you just listen.

Peace,

It has only been a couple of days, but when you are away from here it seems like a life time. I really need the support, I want o eat everything in sight. Why do we want to do that???? We have goals and the desire to lose, and yet everything and anythings seems to want to find it 's way past these lips. I am trying very hard to stay OP, but it is hard......is it time for the wagon, do I qualify??? WIW was not good for me, I am up two pounds from Monday (OK so I admit to weighting frequently during the week!!

I am looking so forward to the meeting in a couple of weeks, do we have an idea of how many for is will be there yet????

I was off for a three day weekend and they are making up for it in the past three days, I can't believe just how much they can ask of someone. I went out on another date on Sunday, dinner and a movie, boy it feels so great to be treated like a lady, and got more flowers too.

THanks to all offering the birthday wishes. It is nice to know that even though I have not been able to make hardly any progress latlely, I am so much more heathly starting this year than I did last.

Well, I need to get to bed, another early day tomorrow, hopefully I have time over the weekend to catch up with everyone. Have a great Thurdsday...keep smiling.

For those of us who need help planning what to eat in a day or who want ideas for something different to eat, I found this 2 week menu. There are a couple of things that would have to be changed/substituted (eg. graham crackers, ravioli) but overall it sounds like a pretty good menu. According to this menu, 6 cashews = 1 fat portion. I usually eat a few fistfuls! Way too much fat! And portion size--well, let's say I need a tune up there too. After reading the menu, my eyes have been opened up that I have to adjust my eating big time. Probably why I haven't lost!!!

Now I must try to get some sleep. DH is keeping me awake watching the hockey game.

Hiedie Ho All!!!

I am bound and determined to get apost in between Olympic shows!!!

The last two days have been a little rough with arthur. ROSALIE: I know what you mean about moving. My dh used to say about it :Da---d if you do, da---d if you don't" and it's true. You just have to find a happy medium about you activities. I am not lecturing because we all know what a dope I am. I usually keep going until I drop. Am good for a while and then get carried away again. Oh Well, can't teach old dogs new tricks! Ans we know this bi--h is old! Or at least on some days!!!

Aren't we (USA) doing great in the Olympics. I just love it all!

FROG - I read in the paper there are seven states that are having a problem in the schools with an unidentified rash. The states are scattered so are not in a cluster. Has medical community baffled.

I want to thank everyone for the suggestions about my hands. DEB - the doc said that carpal is not always caused by repetitve movement, it sonmetimes just happens. Glad you're close call with erratic driver was not an accident, altho that driver sounds like one waiting to happen!

FRUIT - So glad to see you on board again. We missed you. You know we will have you in our prayers.

RED1 - I know what it is to have a "keeper" dil. Mine is the greatest! I live with my family and I couldn't do that if she wasn't the kind person she is!!!

POOCH and FISH welcome. Hope you have as much fun here and learn as much as I have from this Board. It is like an extended family!!

I am so bummed. After the HFS telling me they could get the agave they called today and said the company no longer has it!!! Back to square one. Could someone please post the online companies they used. I may have to go to them.

Okay lovely people, the Olympics late show is on, you know I gotta go. Take care all. Shirley

Hi everyone - thanks for all the "welcome" messages.

Did anyone watch 20/20 last night? They had a segment on Luther Vandross (hope I spelled that right). He has lost 100 lbs 13 times and is now at his lowest and heatliest weight. A few years ago he was in the 300+ (can't remember exactly how much - I was getting pretty sleepy while watching) and he started eating a high protien / low carb diet. He said he cut out sweets, breads, rice, pasta and potatoes. Hmmm, sounds a bit familiar. Anyway, just thought it was interesting.

Since I am still pretty new to this WOE and so far it seems so do-able, I was wondering if anyone else felt like I do right now when they first began - I keep waiting for it to get hard. I know I shouldn't assume I will fail but this WOE sems too easy. I do miss popcorn but nothing else. Does/did anyone ever get frustrated when they slow down or does this WOE just become second nature?

Today is the last day DH is home before his ship pulls out - boohoo:( The kids haven't delt with this in a long time - usually we go live overseas instead of taking a ship (we actually just moved back from Guam this past summer).

Well it's time for me to get motivated for the day - have a great one!! :)

Good Thursday Morning Everyone!!

Just got home from taking Lauren to school-Eli had a Dr. appt., so I had to take her-not a biggie since I already got in my jog/walk, which, by the way, was WONDERFUL!!!! Today, I went for distance instead of time. Did my 4.5 miles in 46:07, but what was great was the distance 3.8 miles straight jogging. I'd say I only walked a tenth of a mile total today!!!!:spin: This is the longest length I've ever walked without stopping!:D I never thought I could do it, but I kept an even and steady pace and it wasn't too bad. Would of helped if it wasn't in the 70's with 91% humidity, but I handled it quite well, I believe.

Tomorrow is suppose to be even warmer, back up in the 80's and then Saturday, cooling down again-no wonder Eli got sick-this is some crazy weather we've been having!

Wanted to update you all on our latest plans for our SB GET TOGETHER in just a little over 2 weeks. I don't want you all to think we're trying to rub it in that we are having this and you can't come, that's not the case, as I'm sure you wouldn't think like that-you know you'll hear all the details anyhow. And didn't want you all to be kept in the dark either, so here's the latest on our plans for the day.

We are meeting at 10:30am at SOLSHINE'S home for our get together. At this time, I think there are 8 board members who are attending and possibly some future board members and Laurie's Mom. It's going to be ESTROGEN CITY!!!! I feel sorry for VINCE, the lone man of the bunch-but I'm sure he'll keep his distance!

BOB & I are bunking at the hotel and we'll pick up ROSALIE in the morning at her hotel and then head over early to SOLSHINE'S house to make/bake whatever we are brining and help her set up. Everyone is bringing an SB LEGAL DISH to share. Weather permitting, afterwards, SOLSHINE said there's a great pontoon boat ride that goes by million dollar homes that's nice to take. Time permitting, a trip to the local HFS to disect the place and then dinner at night out somewhere on the town. Anyone who wants to join us at our hotel afterwards is more than welcome to come and veg out! Of course, the SB PAPARAZZI will have cameras and we'll take lots of pictures (just be patient when it comes to me and posting mine!). I'm so looking forward to this weekend, though not looking forward to the 4.5 hour drive all alone:( I think Eli would of loved to come, but told him women only-sticking him at home to watch the kids-hey, a woman has to have her time with friends!!! Anyhow, that's the latest plans:)

Kids have early release today from school-geez, they had no school Monday, now today!

BOB, nope, no salt-hardly ever salt much of anything, just good ol TOM I think playing around with the old bod! Eli's actually being good about taking care of himself THIS time-he has this party tomorrow night at his store and he wanted to be better, so he took it seriously this time.

MEL, did you ever ask your DB how close he is to BROWARD MALL??? Not too long til we meet-you'll have to let me know if there's anything you need from down my way. Can't wait go with you to Ole Ole!!!!

HAPPY, CONGRATS on your 1lb loss! Actually, I'm not comfortable in thin socks-so I wear cotton slouch ones. Not really all that thick, but definitely not thin. I think the bread I get is good, but that's me. Just let me know if you want 1 bag or more than 1 bag. I will pick it up on Friday before I leave and bring it up with me. It will be freshly made that day. I don't buy the other brand, too doughy for me. If the PURE DELIGHT is one of those SF chocolate bars, I don't buy it-I don't like eating the fake stuff if I can have the real stuff. Carbolite is a soft serve dessert that looks and tastes like ice cream-it's wonderful! I know there's a low-carb place at the flea market in Winter Park that sells their items, but not sure if they carry the Carbolite soft serve. I'm anxiously awaiting this weekend-it's COCONUT, one of my favorites! Thanks for offering about the Deland Bakery-I can actually find it locally. I try not to buy too many breads, if I do so, they go bad before I eat them-moldy city!! BTW, MILK CHOCOLATE is not good, has to be dark chocolate and high cocoa content.

LAMAP, I truly believe you will feel a sense of re-birth after our get together in Orlando. I know how it is to struggle and try to get back on track, it's hard, but you can do it. Glad to hear you had a nice date the other day-I think it's great!!!!

ZANNE, you mentioned the eating of the cashews and not realizing the portions-another reason that journaling is so important!! There's many times I've eaten something only to find out how fattening it was-like pine nuts! The other day I ate a dish that had them in there, the next day, before I ate some more, I picked out the pine nuts and measured them, just to see the weight, threw them back in and ate the dish-not until I went online to see how many calories, fats, etc were in there was I motrified!!! For .8 oz, not even 1 ounce of these little nuts, there were 11 grams of fat! Actually, could be 14-there's two types of pine nuts listed though I'm not sure which one I have-it was quite shocking and a definite eye-opener. Like I've always said, this is a learning experience and I'm still learning!!!

SEF, I've seen people with CT wear a hand brace-not sure how it helps though-do you wear one of these too? The company I buy my agave from says he'll ship it, which is no big deal because I can ship it at the same price. It's the shipping that kills you though, it's about $9 to ship. I'd be happy to ship you some if you want. As far as on line ordering, I think FRANKFERD FARMS may still have some and there is one other place on line that carries 12oz jars, but it's very expensive, though the shipping isn't. Not sure in the long run what the difference would be in cost. You may want to check it out and let me know.

POOCH, I didn't see that last night, but did see it in the past-was it a repeat, or an update? Lately, you see lots of articles in magazines on low glycemic "diets"-finally, people are getting smart out there. This WOE gets easier, not harder. BUT, you can't get discouraged if you don't lose for a couple weeks, or even see a gain-as long as you are OP and doing it all right, the stalls and gains are normal and they will go down. I know when my period comes the scales go up and go up and down and up and down until mid-cycle then I go waaay up and usually come waaay down. I've gained 6-7 pounds in a week and gone up and down, finally losing those pounds and then some - patience is one of the main keys to your being successful on this WOE. Hey, my cousin use to live in GUAM as well, he married a girl from there actually. He's been back here for about 5 years now, but travels there to see her parents with the kids.

Time to go get something to eat-going to make some yogurt with strawberries-yummy. Then time to get in the shower and start my way out to get the kids.

Will try to get some recipes posted today-not sure if I'll have time. Aunt up in Broward invited us for dinner but not sure if I will go-depends on how much homework the kids have tonight.

Have a great day!

Hi all!
Seems like it's been a long time since I've been able to check in & even longer since I've had a chance to actually read the posts. No exception today I'm afraid, but did want to say hello before I run back out the door. Wanted to share a couple of things with all of you.

First of all, I started walking again. Did about 2 miles after I brought Daxton to daycare. DD brought him over about 5:30 this am before she left with my sil to have back surgery, so I have to also pick him up this afternoon when I get back from Lafayette.

DH's employers are doing a Health Screening for all employees & spouses. Will be doing fasting glucose, cholesterol panel, Triglycerides, weight & body fat analysis, breast cancer risk assessment, Mammograms, stroke risk assessments, PSA (males only) ;) all for free! So I'm heading that way in a few minutes. Appointment is at 10:45. Hoping to have lunch with DH after that, then have to head back to work for a 4 hr shift this evening, so it's going to be a pretty full day.

SEF, I've been thinking.... have you given any thought of possibly going to this get together in NC in Oct??? Maybe we could go together if you would like? I'm all for driving! Let me know what you think about the idea.

Also, I've been sharing more about SB with a couple of people around here & while I was looking at Rissa's site for recipes, I can across a couple that really caught my eye. I made Rissa's Eggplant & Mozzarella Bake & it is FABULOUS!!! I don't know if that one is on our board or not, but girls, if you like eggplant, you'll love this one. It's like a noodle-less lasagna. I shared that site with a couple of friends that were interested in SB as well as told them about our board.

Well, I've got to run. Hope everyone has a SF day!

One more important thing before I go!!

LAMAP, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HOPE IT'S A GREAT ONE!

Happy Thursday Morning!

I was so busy and what not yesterday, I only had time to post my WIW, then all sorts of things happened...

Ladies, it's time to plant DAFFODILS! I put at least 20 bulbs in the ground yesterday, I am hoping I am not too late. I also have some butter squash growing in the middle of my lawn, right where I threw out the remains of last years dinner. I also planted some blue wisconsin potatoes. Not to eat, don't get me wrong... well, by the time they are ready to be eaten (if ever), I am hoping to be down at my target (or close enough) to be able to try them. Hey! If you can't eat it now, bury it in the ground for later - in the case of potatoes, I may even get some extras:D !

THANKS everyone for the Slovenia congrats! If you have any extra time  check out the links on my BIO. Slovenia had great tourism! As far as my picture goes - taken long, long time ago - it doesn't do me justice! Where is the lightly reddish skin? Puffy eyes? And chubby (a bit less now than 2 weeks ago) cheeks? Phew! I sorely need to post the improvements :smug:

CONGRATULATIONS to all the loosers! To the others - just remember this is a great WOE regardless of what happens. You are probably a healthier and a happier person, even if this week the Fates decided to challenge your determination a little.

DEBELLI - You keep kicking butt girl! Keep posting those fabulous things, and you may actually get my big ole to move faster. Actually, when I first started walking/running with Ricky, my butt would sort of painfully flap around (no joke!). Now I can hardly feel the flapping as pain anymore. Something is happening (though still happily flapping around :smug: I am sorry to hear about ELI. Poor darling. I hope he will be well and healthy by the time you leave him for bigger and greater things (your SB friends gathering in Orlando), especially, when you bring back all the fabulous touring pictures! He will want to joing the board for sure!

SOL - glad to see you back! I emailed you with all sorts of adventurous suggestions - exercising and stuff, and then bravely sunk into my couch. I think I was so exhausted planning the biking and walking, I went out like a light!
Speaking of tired - how do I register for the marathon? Where is it? I think one of the teachers at my school walks it every year, but I am not sure about it.

ROSALIE - you say stationary bike improves your stiffness? I also feel stiff when I sit or have my body in one position for a while. I thought it was my joints. They are not very friendly to me, actually, my knee hurts if I try to run too long, and I want to fix that. Do you have a suggestion?

SLAPHAPPY - How do you get nitrous oxide? I need a case... !

FROG - Congrats! You probably feel like a skinny minnie, hey? Oh! What a trip!

ZANNE - thanks for posting that site. My DBF is trying to get his brother OP, but is a bit difficult, because the only things his brother eats, are the bad things. He likes almost no veggies! So I am hunting for ideas how to give him menu suggestions.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURIE!!! I have been trying to find a nice cake on the internet for you, but to no avail! So I'll just wave you a happy birthday!

Hello!!! I am new here, if you could not tell! I have not started Sb yet...but plan on it. I am on Akins and have lost but I don't think I will be able to keep that WOE for life. I have so many questions...
Has anyone here made that type of change? If so, how did you go about doing it? What is the best way to loose? I have about 10 pounds to loose and I probably need something a little stricter. Do you measure the amount of food?

Any help would be greatly recieved!!!

Happy Birthday, Laurie!

I weighed 1/2 lb more this week than last, but with a trip to Knott's Berry Farm and some sweet treats, I think that's good.

Pusing Payroll deadlines and trying to manage my son's asthma, which is taking up any extra time I have, I haven't been able to keep in touch. They changed his meds yesterday, so hopefully that will help

Good Afternoon Everyone

Pooch and Red1 -Welcome to the board.

Sol - Yes, I for one am getting excited. It's just 13 days until we leave as we will be spending two nights on the road. I'm sure you will be catching up with me again soon. I'm sure not going anywhere in a hurry. Just trying to stay below 195. Hope your ankle gets better soon so you can start some serious training again.

Fillise - Glad to hear the donuts are coming off

Gracious - I've heard of people losing their hair on Atkins but never on SB. There's no reason that your body should be deprived of any nutrients while on sb as we should be eating foods from all the food groups.

Frog - The new digital scale is being good to me - I actually went down a pound this morning after dookie but my mechanical scale stayed the same. Go figure.

Fruitloupe - Welcome back. We are all here to help you get back on the wagon again and it should be easier staying op with dh joining you on sb.

Deb - Glad to hear that Eli is feeling better. I made the Crustless Cheescake yesterday. I used about 1/3 cup agave - that was all I had left - and it turned out fine. The pan I used was a little bigger than the one recommended, almost 8 inches, but it was fine. I did see your tip about the dental floss but didn't use it this time. I decided to take it to work as I didn't want to have to wait until to-day (or midnight last night) to eat it. It all got eaten, I had at least a quarter of it, maybe a third. Everyone liked it. I will certainly be making it again when I get my supply of agave.

BOB- What do you mean GOT THOSE PANTIES PACKED. What am I supposed to wear between now and then

Mel - It sounds like things are still hectic for you. Wish you were coming to Orlando to be with us all but at least you will get to meet Deb later.

Slaphappy - The choc bars I am bringing are the 85% cocoa dark chocolate. We are only supposed to have chocolate that is 70% cocoa or greater on sb. As Deb said the milk chocolate is not allowed. If you want me to bring you some let me know and I will try to get some more.

Gotta run. I'm off to meet Zanne before heading to work. I haven't finished going through the posts. Will try to finish later.

Hi All!

Just got back from meeting Marie (ROSALIE)! It was just quick as she was on her way to work. She looks pretty much like I pictured her! Maybe next time we'll be able to have a longer visit over coffee or something.

The site I posted with the menus also has a link to lists of portions of types of food (proteins, fats etc). I printed out the ones I would need most to remind myself of a serving size. I got a big wake up call with the fats. It's good to review, kind of like tuning up your brain. And like Deb says, it's a learning experience and we're always learning.

LAMAP HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURIE! Hope you had a wonderful day and will have a just as wonderful evening.

FROG I've thought about the muscle gain. But I just felt "puffy" around my middle yesterday, more than I had in a while. Maybe it was just water retention cause I was down a lb this morning:D

KIMMY Welcome to the board! Ask all the questions you like and someone is bound to have an answer. I've never done Atkins, so can't help you there.

Oh dear look at the time. Gotta run and get DS from school!

Kimmy- Welcome to the board! I am new here, as of this week, but not new to boards or Atkins, only SB. I made the switch from 4 months on Atkins to SB two weeks ago and I am thrilled with it. Instead of rewriting everything here, perhaps you could look on page one of this week ( you are on page 6 I believe right now). My *story* is there and subsequent postings by myself and the answers from others might help you out. I hope they do!

I only have 12 pounds more to lose but Atkins was no longer doing it for me. On SB and now especially this past week when I began to count my carbs/protein/fat ratios has made a tremendous difference. I have lost 2 more pounds and when you are this close to goal..that is a lot!

Evening All:wave:

Just a quickie while the chicken is cooking in the pressure cooker. Nothing exciting today, kids got out of school early, only stopped for pita bread on the way for Michael.

MELF, glad to see your post. Seems you are getting a real daignotics with all those tests. Hope you pass them all with flying colors:D That would be great if you and SEF could carpool to NC-the more the merrier and it would be great to meet both of you! Maybe you could find more along the way to share the ride. I love eggplant so will have to see that recipe, can't remember it off hand. How's things going as far as you staying at/below your goal weight??

VES, geez, I was going to go send a possee out looking for you! You're a regular Johhny Appleseed, I see. Me, I can kill silk! Eli's doing better today, THANKS! Actually, he's been to every SB GET TOGETHER we've had so far-this is the first he's going to miss. I think he likes them almost as much as I do. Don't worry, you'll get to meet him sometime soon! He's a big ol teddy bear with a heart of gold. Him and BOB have a THANG together-put those two together and it spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E!!!! She LOVES when he speaks COFFEE & STARBUCKS to her!!

KIMMY, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!!! Can't believe you and QUILTER, both KIMS and both live in Cincinatti!!!! She'll be thrilled. You should try to meet her one day, she's a trip! There are others on the board who can give you some insight from going from Atkins to SB-I never would try Atkins-knew it wasn't something for me in the first place. I personally do measure my food and journal, many do not, it works for me, but others do fine without doing so. You just have to find what works for you. BUT, I will go out on a limb and say this, for your height 125 is too low. If you look at this site: http://www.drcapella.com/prev/rfc/html/chart.htm you will see for someone of your height, you are at the right weight you are at now. I am only 5' 1 1/2" tall and my original goal weight was 129. If your height isn't a typo, you may need to rethink your goal weight.
Even if that's the case, eating the SB way will sure make you feel better all around!!

LDBLOND, glad to see your post! Have you talk to NANCE lately? Tell her if you do I'm sending an APB out on her!!!! Hope things even out with your sons meds. Miss ya!

ROSALIE, glad to hear the cheesecake was a hit! You were smart to take it to work-I know if I make one right now, it would be eaten by just one person-ME!! I'm going to make one for Orlando, may have to try to double the recipe since there's going to be so many of us-wonder how that will go over:?: You got to meet ZANNE-I surely hope you took a camera!!!!!!

ZANNE, you lucky dog, the first to me ROSALIE!!!! Okay, I take it since it was a fast meeting, no picture taking? I know I get to meet her soon, but sure would like to see a pic of you!!!! When you p/u the agave from her-a camera is a MUST!!!!

JMUIR, glad to see your post-even a quickie is welcomed!!!!:D

Okay, time for me to get back to the kitchen and see how I can screw up dinner!!!

Toodles!

I KEEP FORGETTING...

NEWBIES TO THE BOARD: Just wanted you all to know that we have a SUGAR BUSTERS GET TOGETHER PLANNED for the future in NORTH CAROLINA in OCTOBER 2002. Our resident QUEEN OF SOLE, FROGLOVER got us a great deal on a beach house that sleeps 36 for Thursday-Sunday. Please keep this in mind, we'd like to have a big showing for what's going to be a really great, not to be missed event! It's a girls only vacation and one I hope everyone will be able to attend!!!

Details will follow...

Well, I have done really well with the eating today. Just finished turkey, spinach salad (made the dressing subbing agave for sugar--I'll post it on the recipe board later) and sweet potoato "fries"--but they were baked. Even my guys liked them. Fat for today is way down:D and portions have been reasonable.

DEBELLI- YUP! I got to meet Marie first. Sorry, no cameras. It's dreary and rainy here today and it was a quick meeting. Silly me, I never thought to give Marie a pic of myself to take with her. I'll have to try to remember to give a pic to my brother to scan.

VES -Glad that site could help. People are always asking for food ideas.

Gotta go again! I'm trying to get in a couple of people with each post.

HI to everyone I didn't get to.

I had to run the kids here and there. Thanks for welcoming me. I am sure I will be here a lot.

As for my height, yes, I am 5'6"- almost 5'7". I normally weigh around 125-130, till last year and I started eating nothing but junk and gained a total of 25 pounds. I am at 140 now, but none of my clothes fit. I know 125 is thought to be low, but it really is not for me. That weight puts me in a size 8-10, pending on who makes the clothes.

So is it better to try to limit your starchy carbs in the beginning?
I am not the biggest meat eater, I knew Atkins would not do it for me, bkut by me doing it, my hubby started...he is about 70 pounds over his max weight.

Hi Everyone-
busy day at work and then right out the door to T-Ball! Did better with my water today. I have to make a consious effort to get the water down! I got on the scale this morning at home and it had said I dropped 10lbs! Guess its time for a new scale because it was a lie!!!

Vesnoid- I think you can only get the laughing gas from the dentist! I bet if they sold it on the streets, someone could become rich!!! When you get a sugar craving just take a wiff of Mr. Happy Nose
Are you coming to Orlando?

Rosalie: I am not much for Dark Chocolate, so I'll pass on the bars, but thank you for the offer. I bet everyone is getting excited about their trip! Are you driving down?

Kim: Welcome!! I also did Atkins for awhile but as soon as you start back on carbs, back come the cravings and the weight. I am still struggling with not cheating on this WOE. But someday I'll get willpower and will be successful!! Great group here to keep you motivated.

Lamap: Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Dear Lori, Happy Birthday to you!!!! Don;t I sing well?

BOB: What exactly is a "cool nose plug"? Is it a regular Survivor show starting again or something different? I liked Big Brother (I know I am the only one in the world that liked that show). I am really looking forward to meeting you - you sound like a blast to be around! I'll bring half and half for the coffee!

Well all, I have to go make lunches for tomorrow. Have a great day tomorrow!

Hi Sue!
I have heard that about Atkins. I have a few friends at church that are doing SB right now and they say they do "cheat" every-now-and-then and it does not seem to affect them. I know everyone is different, but the thought of gaining if I eat something bad really turns me off. I am just scared to stop Atkins and go straight to SB. I need to stock up on stuff...like the bread and pasta that is legal.

Thanks for your support. I will enjoy my time here.

Last post before I hit the hay...

I MADE DINNER & IT CAME OUT GREAT!!!!

Eating was wonderful today-will try to post it on the
FOOD FOR THOUGHT BOARD tomorrow:)

Yes, I made chicken and brown rice with pine nuts and it was delicious! I didn't screw it up and Eli liked it-there is hope for me in my old age!!!

Lauren is watching this show called GLUTON BOWL I got sick just watching it. This one guy was on his 3rd bowl of MAYONNAISE when I left the room-Eli told me he ate 8lbs of mayo:eek: They showed just 32 ounces of mayo having over 2000 grams of fat! How disgusting! I can't even imagine why in the world they would have a show like this on the air-it's not only gross, but so unhealthy! What the networks won't do for ratings!!!!

ZANNE, I too wish you would of thought about a pic for Marie to bring, but posting one on the board for all of us to see would be great!! Get DB to scan one for us PLEASE!!!

KIMMY, only you know what your best weight is and how you feel-but don't get really discouraged if you don't get down to that weight-the way you feel is ultimately the most important, not the numbers. As we get older, esp. after having kids, it's harder to get to a weight you saw in the past. BUT, we are here to support your efforts in every way!!!
To answer your question, you should try to limit your starchy carbs to 2-3 a day. Hey, what about SKYLINE CHILI!!!! Can't say CIN. without mentioning that!! We have a cousin who lives in Cin! Visited there once when the kids were little.

BOB, and for what are you anticipating the need for nose plugs pray tell???:s: I've got ear plugs packed and ready to go!!! I'm going to look into the rates for the hotel I stayed at last time and see if I can get the same one-shouldn't be any problem. I may try to leave from Miami early afternoon, just depends on how fast I get things made and ready to go-will give you a call sometime next week. We'll figure out our Friday evening plans beforehand-maybe we can hit Italianni's for dinner!!!!!!:spin:

HAPPY, glad to hear YOU did better with your water today-wish I could say the same!! Umm, can I have that scale of yours?? I'd sure like to see a drop like that!! Maybe the spring sprung? LOL!!! A COOL NOSE PLUG A SHOW!!! LOL!!! I'm laughing so hard I can't even see the screen to type!!! I'll let BOB answer your question!!!!

Nite all!

Ooooohhh am I ever sore after that lower body workout yesterday! My hamstrings, quads and glutes are so sore I am walking funny! Went to the gym tonight and rode the bike; didn't sweat enough though. DH is going with me in the a.m. to do upper body, should be fun.

Doc at work looked at me today and diagnosed me with Fifth Disease. A fancy name for a rash that is viral and contagious through certain types of contact. Dangerous for pregnant women. More info on web md for those who want to know more. It also called "slapped face disease" because the rash often appears on the face. Thankfully I don't have it there. :D But my arms and chest are red and scratchy.

Talked to Mom today who reports that grandmother is having terrible bouts of dementia "spells." I think she is having mini-strokes (TIAs). Sadly she is somewhat aware that there are times that she is not making sense. She often thinks that my father is my grandfather. :( God certainly has His hand in this, as Friday was my Mom's last day at work and now she can oversee some of my grandmother's activities.

KIMMY - Welcome to the board.

ROSALIE - I never thought I'd see the day you wrote something about dookie on this board! Thanks for making me feel like less of a clod by sharing that personal information. Lord knows Deb and I have spent plenty of time talking about our bathroom habits!

ZANNE - Yeah for you on getting rid of that pound!

JMUIR - Glad to see you back!

BOB - You need a "fanny plug" for Deb instead of a nose plug for you! You are one brave soul! Thank heavens the beach house is big enough that we can quarantine Deb if she starts that stuff up in October!

FRUIT - Welcome back to you too!

SEF - Please say you'll come to the beach with MELF! That would be fabulous!!! Keep moving to stay loose!

POOCH - We'll try our best to keep you company while DH is away on tour. I'm a former Army wife (DH is out now) and have some idea of what your feeling. Hang in there! Just think of the opportunity you have to have a "new you" when he returns this summer!

DEB - 3.8 miles! You are too much! That is fabulous! Confuscious say: "I see marathon in your future!" Good Oct beach reminder.

MELF - Great health fair at DH's work! What a great idea for you and SEF. Please come!

VES - You're quite the little Martha Stewart gardener!

NANCE - Are you out there too? Sending out an APB for ya!

SOL - Hope you're feeling better. How'w the paw?

Time to hop in the shower and watch the ladies skate. Go USA!

Peace,
FROG

Well, per usual, I am way behind with the posts. We had a meeting last night and didn't get home until midnight. So that's the reason for my absence. Haven't read yet, but just heard from DEB that there's a NEW MEMBER NAMED KIM FROM CINCINNATI!!!!! Can you believe that????

So KIMMYTHEKID . . . welcome to the board, sister friend. I am also from Cincinnati and am also a Kim. You're going to love this board. Everyone is so great here and really wants each other to do their bests and reaching their goals. You are in the right place, that's for sure!!! I hope you feel at ease to ask all the questions you want.So WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME. Just a warning, BOB's going to talk to you about skyline chili. There are a lot of SBers on this board who have a thang for skyline chili.

Well, sorry this is so short, but hubby is home and he needs some tender loving care.

Talk to you later.

Hi-

I'm new (I posted an intro thread yesterday; thanks Debbie, glad to be here!) and have a question while I'm waiting on my book.

Fruit: must it only be eaten alone, because I swear on one of the websites I visited there was something about fruit and yogurt. I often do a combination blueberries/plain yogurt plus almonds breakfast (I've been doing the Zone and still feel comfortable using many of their ideas, because they're all 40/30/30).

So ladies, can I have blueberries in my yogurt today? :)

Was going to go to the gym this morning with DH but so tired from watching the Olympics that didn't wanna wake up this morning. So, we'll go this evening.

Speaking of the Olympics, I was so happy ;D for Sarah Hughes and so sad for Michelle Kwan :( . I guess there is nothing like Olympic gold though. It's all about the right skate on the right night.

DH has Dixie (our chocolate Lab) in the shower at the moment. She is such a good dog that when we need to bathe her she'll get in the shower when we tell her too. She is having an itchy spell so we decided to give her bath this morning rather than waiting until later. It is quite a sight to see. He invited Mary-Ca (cat) too but she declined.

Talked to my Mom again after I posted last night. Seems my grandmother had more confusion again yesterday. She continues to think that she lives in an apartment with my parents, that she has a job, that my father is her husband and asks my mother things like "Do you have any young children?" Thank heavens they are going to the doctor this afternoon at 3:00.

I'm going to Greensboro today to run errands and get my hair cut off! Want it as short as it was in the picture I posted from the beach last summer (salmon shirt/black shorts for those of you who've been to the photo board). When my hair is long I think it makes me look older and weighs me down. I'll be free of my mane soon.

Hope you all have a happy Friday!

Peace,
FROG

Welcome to the board, semmens. I am still new to SB but have done a significant amount of reading. The whole reasoning behind the *eating fruit alone* thing is to prevent indigestion. If you do not have a problem with this, then you are free to eat your fruit with something else and even with your meal. The fear is that the fruit will ferment in the stomach when mixed with other things and cause the indigestion. I have never experienced this and have read in numerous places that it is fine to go ahead and eat your fruit when you wish.

Having said that, although I experience no problems, I have tried to stick by it for some reason. Hey, I like rules! I have a piece of fruit, usually 1/2 grapefruit a half hour before the rest of breakfast and my snack in the later morning or afternoon is often an apple. I find it kind of spreads things out better for me and I feel that I am eating more and more often..which I love! ;)

Thanks gracious; I like rules too!!

I was so happy to be able to eat some brown rice last night; on my last WOE, 1/5 cup = one serving so I didn't bother. The kids took to it better than I thought they would, too. Does anyone have a good microwave method of cooking brown rice?

I'm trying to get away from my scale obsession, but admit I was pleased to see a solid 126 this morning. I'm more concerned with body fat percentage than numbers, but confess that the low 120's are where I'd like to be. (I'm 5'2 1/2" and my BF is about 24% right now)

Finally going back to the gym after a week away with a nasty case of strep.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well I am going to try again. I hit a button the mouse and my entire message went bye bye.

Yesterday was a good day. It was my grand daughters 1st b-day and I didn't eat any cake. This is great since I could have eaten the entire thing. I am having some major munchies going on. Hey I have noticed that you all primarily use Agave. Is it ok to use futose. I have some recipes that I have found some recipes that use it. I am not sure how I'd use agave instead. Any suggestions?

Kimmythekid - Welcome:) I too am fairly new to the board. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

lamap - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! I was busy yesterday with my grand daughters b-day and didn't get to get online and post you a greeting. It sounds like you spent it just the way you wanted.

semmens - Welcome:) I have blueberrie in my yogurt. I have a yogurt smoothie for breakfast every morning. It is the only way for me to get a breakfast since I go to work so early. I take 1C plain yogurt, 1/2C frozen fruit, 3 Splenda pkgs, smig of vanilla and smig of milk and blend. It taste so good.:o Sometimes is fills me up so much that I forget to eat a snack.

Got to go for now and get ready for work. YAHOO it is friday. I am going to but a new car tonight. GMC Envoy. We have been looking at them for a couple of months and the deals run out this next week. Have a great weekend and I'll talk to you all later.:D

Hi everyone

Last night my DH and 7 yr old son DJ make a chocolate cake for a Father Son Cake Bake Contest for Cub Scouts - it smelled sooo good. How it looks is a different story  It was so hard not to lick the frosting bowl.

Well, my DH left this morning  Had to drive him to the ship at 4:30am. There were all kinds of news crews everywhere. Thanks everyone for the well wishes and support. DH has been in the Navy for 21 years and could have retired last year but wanted to do one more cruise.

Debelli - my kids were watching the Glutton Bowl too - and it made me sick to my stomach as well. I just don't see why anyone would even want to participate - yuk :(

Frog Lover - my Grandpa is getting the same way as your Grandma - its hard. He had a small stoke a few months ago. We lived on Guam for 2 years and hadn't seen him until this past summer. Before we moved he was still driving his car and golfing a few days a week and now he can not walk at all and is also living in the past. The worst part for us is my Grandma is being really mean to him now - thinks he needs to die. My mom wants them to move in with her but they refuse. It's frustrating - all we can do is pray.

I am so jealous of all you Florida people getting together in Orlando - we lived in Jacksonville 3 years ago - I would give anything to get back to Florida. We hope to eventually retire there - most likely on the gulf side. Where in NC is the beach house you guys are renting? Anyone live up in this part of the country? I'm in the Virginia Beach, VA area.

Gotta go for now - time to get moving!!

Good Friday Morning Everonye:wave:

And a good one it tis! Got in my jog/walk today and was going to take it easy since I did such a long jog yesterday, but instead decided to do another long jog today since I take Saturdays off. SOOOOO, today, I went a little further!! I did 4.05 miles straight jogging, didn't even get one light today!!! I did my 4.5 miles in 46:41, once again, not going for time, but distance instead. I truly am proud of myself-never in my life did I think I could accomplish this!!

Today is my 23rd month SB ANNIVERSARY. Can't believe next month I'll have 2 years of SB under my belt!!:D

Going to be at Starbucks all evening long with Eli helping him with the Anniversary Party-hope he has a good crowd! He's going to be so tired, he didn't sleep well last night, coughing a lot-which of course means I didn't sleep well either:^:

If this didn't make your local TV stations, you MUST see this dog! Just click on the link below!!

http://www.tungdog.com/

FROG, Fifth Disease? How the heck do you get rid of that? How the heck did you get it in the first place! Now, now, I am highly refined around others and don't break wind in front of them-now, what I do in my home is another story-but don't listen to anything BOB has to tell you on that subject:s: You won't have to lock me up at the beach house, I promise:s: Sorry to hear about your GM, I hope things don't go from bad to worse-it's so hard to see them like that. I'm sure you'll come home looking MAHVELOUS today!!!

QUILTER, hopefully you and KIMMY can meet up one day-who knows you may be close neighbors!!!

SEMMENS, yes, you can enjoy your yogurt with berries! I actually take different fruits and puree them and freeze them in ice cube trays and use one in some yogurt with a little stevia to sweeten. You did read correctly about the fruit rule on the FOOD INFORMATION BOARD Berries are an exception, you can eat them with meals or at any time. It is better to eat fruit as suggested, but won't kill you if you eat if earlier or sooner or even with a meal. I personally try to keep it separate. I made brown rice as well yesterday, was delicious. I've never made it in the microwave, but I'm sure this was addressed long ago-if no one has the info, I'll try to find it. I made mine by browning some pine nuts in a pan first, then adding brown rice I had soaked for about 45 minutes, 3 cups of chicken stock from chicken I had just made in the pressure cooker, salt, pepper and some cinammon-it was delicious! Served it with the chicken.

RED1, don't worry, that disappearing act has happened with many of my posts, unfortunately:( I have never used fructose due to it being from corn, but others have and may be able to answer your questions better. I've only used agave and it's not hard to convert recipes that have either sugar or honey as the ingredient-just don't ask me how to convert a recipe that has Splenda to agave-I haven't a clue!! Congrats on the new car-let us know what color you get!!

GRACIOUS, love that you are a reader, like me. I feel knowledge is power and the more you know about this WOE, the better you will do on it.

POOCH, FROG has all the info on the beach house, so she can tell you. I hope you can come in Oct. It's not that far from VA!! Maybe you can find someone to carpool with, which is what I think many of us who are coming are going to try and do.

Time to get something to eat-having yogurt with .8oz of pureed strawberries. I had some yesterday and it was DELICIOUS!!!:D

Have a wonderful weekend everyone-I'll check in later sometime!

Good Morning

Wasn't that a great skate by Sarah Hughes yesterday. I think she deserved to win the gold but too bad for Michelle Kwan. I've always enjoyed watching her, she is such a graceful skater.

Semmens - Welcome to the board. I would like to add to what Gracious has to say about the fruit question. Berries are an exception to the fruit rule - they can be eaten with the meal, to quote from Montignac's book "Eat Yourself Slim" - "As all rules have exceptions, some kinds of fruit, because they have a very low concentration of sugar, do not ferment easily. Included in this category are strawberries, raspberries, black currants, red currants and blackberries, which can be eaten with no problem at the end of a meal." I would assume that bluberries would be included as well. Also he specifies that the fruit rule only applies to FRESH FRUIT. If it is cooked it is o.k. to eat with the meal.

Frog - Sorry to hear about the problems your grandmother is having. I hope you are able to get some help for her. It's very hard to see this happening to people we love.

Gotta run. Off to play ping pong and socialize this morning and badminton this afternoon. Then have my dd and kids coming for supper. So have a busy day ahead. Also will be working the weekend so won't have too much time to post. But I will be lurking. :) I know I still haven't caught up with the posts. Maybe one day.....

Good Monring everyone!

I haven't weighed yet this morning and probably won't since I've already eaten and had my coffee. I'm a fan of the weigh "buck nekked before I've put anything in my body rule." I'd like to be able to do it just once a week, but well, you know how it is. . .

I'm heartbroken for Michelle Kwan. I wanted her to win so badly. She is the most graceful skater I've ever seen and will always be solid gold as far as I'm concrned!

Frog--sorry about your rash. I hope it clears up soon! Miss Belle gets her baths from the squirt bottle soakings she gets from jumping on the counters and tables!

KimmytheKid--Welcome! The word with the Adkins SB switch is that there is a small stall--even gain at first, but then the weight starts comming off. I think SB is so much healthier--especially if you are adopting this as a lifetime WOE. We'll be there for you as you make the transition!

Deb--Good luck with the party tonight. It sounds like quite a celebration. You are really maing good progress with the run/walks. After watching the Olympics, I want to learn to luge. I'm all for a sport where you participate while laying down!:D

Sef--I'm so sorry to hear about your CP. I had something very similar while I was in grad school. I ended up having surgery and have not had any problems with my wrist since. I hope you can find some relief soon!

Pooch--Welcome! I had a friend some years ago whose husband was in the Navy--she hated those long cruises. But then they were newlyweds and you sound like an experienced hand.Still it has to be hard and I'll be thinking about you. I'm glad the SB is going well for you--it really is a great WOE.

I have a meeting so I have to go. Sorry I can't respond to everyone. I hope everyone has a great OP day!

It's the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Fridaytational ---- FRIDAY!!!

I am all sparkly this morning. We had a gread thundrous storm last night, which gave me a sensational nuclear catastrophe dreams. Let me just say, it was colorful!

I have been tracking my calorie intake on Fitday.com, but am still confused about how much total i am supposed to eat. Oh, well. During my second period today, a lively discussion ensued about nutrition, sugar and such. I ended up printing the "How Sweet it is" article (thanks Deb - my friends liked it too!), and signing up one of my students on FItday.com. I also told her to get the Sugar Busters book, because she and her mom have been having trouble losing weight. Her mom has to take medicine, which makes it difficult to loose weight, plus with all the misinformation around.... I asked my student how much she ate yesterday, and it came up to total of 600 cKal + a slimfast! Girl, if you are reading this now, you are probably alrady looking forward to how much your eating from now on is NOT going to feel like a diet.

FROG -I am very sorry to hear about your GM. Hopefully they will be able to help her.
I always thought long hair made me look skinnier. Go figure! I am sure you will look absolutely fabulous, and also that you won't go to sleep before posting your new pictures! :smug:

HAPPY - Yes. I am coming to the meeting in Orlando (rub, rub, rub to everyone else...;) , since I live about 7 minutes away from SOL. I am hoping to meet her this weekend, but she disappeared from the face of the earth again....Are you coming? We could go to the dentist together....Sorry. I don't think I can let that one go so easily.

BOB - You look trouble all over, girl!!! I am really looking forward to meet you. I told my mom about the rowdy bunch of you that I am meeting in two weeks, and she can't wait to see as many of you as she can, when she comes this summer.

SEMMENS - Welcome to the board - it's a very happy place, I'm sure you've noticed it already!

GRACIOUS - You seem like a library of knowledge! I know what you mean about liking rules. I also like to know my limits, but then, it is so nice to break them sometime...

KIMMYTHEKID - Have no fear! If you can do Atkins, you can do SB even better. I tell my friends who know nothing about it, and just want to "wing it", to cut out potatoes, pasta, bread, carrots, raisins, corn, and sugar - before they get really familiar with it. I am sure you could start doing this right away - by eating vegetables like cauliflower, mushrooms, chick peas (high in protein), and such. Also, I believe Zanne had a menu suggestion link (couldn't find it today, though) to give you an idea what you can eat, and not feel hungry and deprived.

Gotta go. See you all later!!!
(I feel like a preacher on a mission lately. Perhaps people are starting to bore of me talking about the Devil Sugar all the time... ...well, sometime, ok, a lot)

Well, after this weekend, I am gonna start. I think the transition from Atkins to SB should be fine, more mental than anything. When you are tole most carbs are bad, then start eating them again, knowing they are ok....WOW!!! A mental thing I will get over.
I am not as worried about "weight" loss, just want to fit into my clothes. Funny thing is that after my 5th child, I was 120! He is 2 now, but for me, having kids is a great diet!!! LOL.

Well, from what I have seen of this board, it is awesome!

Skyline Chili.....YUMMY...Is that legal?

Kim...Hi! Weather sucks, huh?!? Shouldn't complain too much though, it could be worse.

6 MORE DAYS!!!;) :dizzy: :) Survivor!!! Besides Bob, anyone else addicted?

It is bed time!!! Or nap time for my little one! It is my second most favorite part of the day. My very favorite is bed time for all the kids!

Thought I'd get in a post before we head over to STARBUCKS

ROSALIE, I had to agree, Sarah skated beautifully. I hear now there's some stink that the Russians think they should of gotten the gold medal?? Will it ever end?? Badminton and ping pong-how fun!

FILLISE, I too scare the scale half to death by weighing naked! You had me LMAO about the luge!!!!!

VES, got your e-mail, will e-mail you at home later, that's if I get a chance on the computer before we leave for SB. Michael is anxiously awaiting for me to leave and get Lauren so he can get on here-I'm feverishly typing to get in this post quickly! Hey, do they have high cocoa content chocolate in Slovenia? Tell Mom we'll all come meet her if she finds some to bring:D When my parents went to Europe I had her running all over looking for HC Cocoa Bars! She did pretty darned good too!!!

KIMMY, I think you will do just fine transitioning to SB, and you're bound to feel better! 120 AFTER your kid-my goodness, aren't you a lucky devil! I like Survivor too, but I'm more looking forward to seeing the AMAZING RACE come back on March 11th!!!!

Gotta run-

Well this week has been hectic as you can imagine. Boy am I glad I'm not having any more babies!!!

I've been eating OP, but not very well as far as getting all my daily amounts.

DEB - I've seen how you break down your food, and I joined fitday.com, and am wondering... 1) how do I know how many calories I need, 2) how do I break down what percent of what those calories should be... like that 40/30/30 people talk about or whatever the numbers are... I worked for the first month of SB, on just cutting out the items that weren't legal... now I'd like to move on to getting the nutrition proportions correct. Now that I can look at a plate of bacon cheddar fries and not even want one, I think I'm ready to get the rest under control!!!

I'm *hoping* to be down to a size 14 before we go to the beach on May 5th... it would be so great. I'm not sure at what weight I am a size 14... I do know that at 125 I was a 4... and at 150-160 I can wear a 10/12. soooo... weight is weird on me.

I've been slacking on my water... probably only about 60 oz a day which is awful for me. I know it's just because I don't stop and drink it because I'm busy... I HAVE to start making time. I'm gonna make a rule that before I can put ANY food in my mouth, I have to drink 8oz of water... that should work. I know I can make myself do it... look what else I've accomplished in the last month.

Well... I'm off to read before the RM and DH get home, it's semi-quiet for now ;) Not sure what I"m making for dinner tonite. But I know mine will be SB legal ;)

I got this in an email today, & if some of you newbies haven't gotten to know BOB yet, you'll soon find out that she's a Southern girl that will point some of these facts out to ya in a minute, right Deb??? So BOB, when I read this it had your name written all over it. Read it & see. Love ya, BOB! :D

That unforgettable, Southern drawl.

Southern girls know their manners:
"Yes, ma'am."
"Yes, sir."

Southern girls have a distinct way with fond expressions:
"Y'all come back!"
"Well, bless your heart."
"Drop by when you can."
"How's your mother?"
"Love your hair."

Southern girls don't sweat....they glisten.
Southern girls know their summer weather report:
High Humidity

Really High Humidity

Southern girls know their three R's:
Rich

Southern girls know their vacation spots:
The Beach
The Beach

Southern girls know the movies that speak to their hearts:
Gone With the Wind

Southern girls know the three deadly sins:
Bad hair

Southern girls know men may come and go, but friends are fo'evah!

Now you run along, Sugah, and send this to some other Girls

HiedieHo All!!!

Have been so busy no time to be here. Weekend should be slower.

The Olympics: I was so sad for Michele, but so happy for Sarah. She really derserved the gold, she was the only one to skate a clean program. The Russians were threatening that there wouldn't be a fair judging because of Michele being the favorite. But since none of their skaters skated clean it wasn't a final issue. Irina is a cutie. I was glad to see the winners and felt they deserved it.

Cleaned house today and since it's a chilly day, made chili in the crock pot for supper.

DEB: Shipping would make the agave about $42 a case. I'll have to do some more checking around here. Was trying to avoid N.O. but might check them out. Or maybe Gulfport. I could not bring Frankferd Farms up, maybe they go by a different name on the web? Maybe that dog should try out to be a KISS mascot!

MELF: First let me say what a great idea and I would love to........but (there's always a but)........I have plans to go back east to PA, NY & NJ in October, don't think I could swing the two financially. I will have to think. Because I thought I'd have no chance of attending I have not paid all that much attention to the plans. What are the dates and cost share for house. Then there would be gas and food share and entertainment if everyone decided to go out. I will really give it serious consideration.

KIMMYKID & SEMMENS - Did I welcome you? I don't think so, welcome. ou'll like it here! I thinki there was another newbie too. If I missed someone it is not intentional!!

BOB; I hope you have more than one pair of panties, a pair to wear and a pair to pack!

FROG - Glad your GM is going to doctor. If this is a sudden thing she could have had a TIA recently. There can be other causes besides senile dementia or Altzheimers.

FILLISE - I like the bucj nekked rule too. Always weigh first thing in morning. Go to the bathroom and then step on the scales. Want to be sure everything is out of my body that can possibly be eliminated!!!

I have to check on the chili, gd goes to work this evening so want her to have some supper before she goes. I am going to look up the cheese biscuit recipe and try them to go with the chili.

Hope all is well. Take care. sef

It's between Olympic hockey games so I thought I'd get a quickie in while trying to prepare dinner!
The Canadians beat Belarus 7-1:D Next game is USA vs Russia (if Russia decides to play:rolleyes: ) in less than 2 hours. That should be a good game. Didn't watch the skating last night. We watched the women's hockey. Sorry American friends but the Canadian women won the gold:D It was a great game and both teams played well. I was crying  while watching the American team receive their silver medals. I did feel bad for them.

Enough sports.

I have been eating a lot better and am way lower on the fatty things since I figured out I was eating way too much. I'll just have to work on the starchy carbs! It's all MARIE's fault ;) for telling me about a yummy bread we get here. I'm addicted to it.

BTW MARIE-I was at Centerpoint Loblaws this morning and the rack was full. So I am assuming they got a shipment today. I got some yummy multigrain bagels with a best before date of the 27th. They have honey in them, but it was way down the list of ingredients, so I'm hoping they're not too bad!

Ok, gotta go. I've got a sick munchkin that wants mom's attention.

Later!

This is just a quicky!

Since I am obsessed with FITDAY.com, AND having my 30/30/40 as close as possible, AND I wanted to try out a protein powder (for that strenuous to get without the fat intake protein) -
I came up with a protein pancace recipe. It makes about 6 pancakes, 599 cKAL - and the proportions are: PROTEIN 37%, CARBS 42%, FAT 21%. You could go even lower on fat, if you use egg beaters instead the egg.

I will post the laborous recipe with all the ingreadients and brand names on the recipe board.

I ate my pancakes with apple sauce, which I didn't calculate into the calorie intake. You could eat whatever you think it's safe.

SEF...Hello! It does seem like there are a few new ones all at once. Too funny....your "what a difference 30 years can make"

I had no idea The Amazing Race was on again!!! I am not a big TV watcher at all, but I have my favorites (which I think should be a question in the Bio).
Survivor is tops for me, then CSI!!! I really like T.A.R. too, so I am excited! I never did like Big Brother (sorry).

No doubt I will do fine with this WOE/L. I just want to get a few items and be ready. Stopping sugar and caffeine was so hard for me. I had the worst headache for days.
Hey, for the very few of you that do cheat every blue moon...do you end up having to w/drawl again, or is it not that bad? A friend a church is doing this and cheats like once a month, and says she has no problem, other than cheating herself;)

THEN, the VERY NEXT SATURDAY I will get to meet a bunch of wonderful cyber-friends and see some other cyber-friends yet again!!

'Scuse me for bustin' at the seems with excitement, but I don't have kids and Santa doesn't come to my house anymore and y'all are so wonderful, that I can't help but get all riled up! BOB and MELF Please let me know if I start actin' unladylike with my zeal.

WELCOME NEWBIES!!!! So glad to have you aboard! Sorry I won't be able to address you individually, but you are certainly at the right place for support and answers!

ALRIGHT - WHERE THE HECK CAN I GET SOME OF THIS FAMOUS SKYLINE CHILI??? Do I have to hide in BKM's suitcase when she goes to Cinci?

warning - the next 2 paragraphs are nothing more than a long-winded rant

Is it me or are the Olympics getting old? I mean everyone is complaining about everything - there's corruption all over the place and half these athletes aren't even living and training in the countries they represent and the ones who do are being coached by coaches from the top rival country. I'm over it. It seems like it used to be that the big deal was AMATEUR athletes competed for the BIGGEST PRIZE out of a very few competitive meetings ever. Now the Olympic medal is just one of many international awards so many of these athletes have. ALSO, we used to get to see EVERYONE compete - not just the top 3 or 4. We learned about the other athletes - their countries, their lives, their challenges - now we get a 2 minute glib MAYBE on some of the other athletes.

I enjoy watching these other sports that you don't hear about until the Olympics come around (FILLISE - especially the luge as I could compete lying down! ) BUT at this point I could take it or leave it. The dishonest people have ruined it for all the honest people - IMNSHO. I'm very sad for Michelle Kwan - she IS true gold inside and out. I'm very happy for Sarah! She kicked boo-tee and absolutely deserves her medal and all the glory that goes along with it. I hope the Russians get over their pity party and move on. I hope the Korean speed skater does too - you mess up - fess up and move on.

OKAY - RANT OVER - sorry. :^:

ZSUZSU Glad to see you're doing well! I was wonderin where you were and about to have BKM put out a BOLO on you! Me casa - su casa! Bring it on! I use Tone soap and Botanical Gardens shampoo - Vince uses Senscience shampoo and Dial soap....and fluffy towels. You'll have your pick of showers!

HAPPY If you can distract BOB - Vince and I might be able to score some extra SB coffee for all of us- surely she wouldn't notice???? :s:

VESNA Gonna give you a call in the morning (better not plan to sleep in  ) to see when we can tackle Park Ave. THEN we'll talk about that fanny pack and when would be the best time to have 2 goober walkers on our loop at the same time. :D

FROG You are kickin' butt, Girlfriend!! I can't wait to see that buff body of yours! Will you be posting the transformation pics soon? I ordered the BFL book through the library and will check out the program so I can 'tweak' what I'm doing now and then know what I'm looking at getting into later on down the road. Right now I have so much to lose and being focused on the marathon that it would be too overwhelming and discouraging, I think, to add that to the mix. Sorry to hear about your GM. I can really tell my Paw Paw is getting older and tired every time we see them and it's so hard. I wish you could come down for MARIE'S visit.

MARIE It's getting close! I cook my oatmeal with frozen blueberries every day with no problems but I cooked something with apples one time and - OMG - I will NEVER do that again!!

MELF - Loved the post! SO TRUE, SO TRUE! I remember being apalled at women down here for wearing white shoes and sleeveless dresses whenever the heck they wanted to. I vividly remember telling my mom and my best friend from college about it the first time I went home.

SEF - That was too funny! I try to ignore getting older - I pretend I'm still 25. That was the perfect age - I could vote, I could drink and my insurance went down that year.

 HAVE A GREAT WEEK-END EVERYONE!!!

Hi Guys-
Just have time enough for a quick post. I have to tell you guys that you are all just entirely tooo funny. Bob-if you wear nose plugs you know, then you'll have to breathe thru your mouth!! (ewe). Better off finding a good non re-breather mask and connect it to a an o2 concentrator! Sol: Ok, I'll take BOB outside for a breath of fresh air and you stash the coffee!

Well all, have a great evening! I'll catch you over the weekend!

Whew- just read all the posts from the last 1.5 days and it took forever! What a lively place. The Olympics are killing me- everything ends so late and of course we have to watch to the end, so I've been living on very little sleep. The hockey games are really tough here with ds knowing players on both teams (the women's), hubby Canadian and me 'mercun (as his family calls me).
Don't know who to root for tomorrow's men hockey...maybe I'll just cheer for all the Philadelphia Flyers on the ice!

Just a real quick hello, I'm still here post. Workouts going great except for the klutz factor. I seem to pick up new bashes and bruises everytime I go into the gym. Today I did a really ungraceful "dismount" from the assisted pull-up machine and was rewarded with rugs burns and bruises on knees and elbows. Kinda reminded me of years ago taking toddlers for their check-up and hoping the pediatrician didn't think I beat them cause they were so bruised from playing. Must be genetic:lol: Eating, however, is not so great and I feel really fat from what I thought were little tiny cheats. My 6 jeans are tight and I don't think its becuase of butt muscle development
gotta go, skating on again!!!

hi everyone,

sounds like everyone is having a good week, i am on call for the recovery room this weekend so my week will be great if i don't get called in.

welcome to all the new gals, i guess i can say that safely, where did daramus go? this is THE spot for support and caring.

am really looking forward to another SB meeting! sonya, you are so sweet to open your home to us again, tell vince thanks! the day planned sounds like fun, i have heard good things about winter park. sounds like we have quite a crowd coming, should be lots of fun.

BOB-i am bringing you a can of skyline! if i can not have the real thing in cincinnati i prefer the frozen that i can get in publix. my sister in cincinnati makes a great dip with the frozen chili ,cream cheese and shredded cheddar. in the PAST i have had it with tortilla chips but i bet with toasted wheat pita or triscuits it would be an acceptable alternative! yep, i will bring that to sonya's! by the way sonya we could throw you in the back of the van this summer and you could go with me to see quilter!

kim-we could meet at skyline in harrison this summer. one time when we visited my son kept track of how many coneys he and my husband ate over a 1 week period, frightening!!!! the stuff is addicting, i imagine it is legal, the chili , unfortunately not the buns for the coneys or the spaghetti for the 3-way. oh well!

kimmy-we should also try to arrange for a meeting this summer. i will be in harrison the week after the 15th of june, we moved from cincinnati to central florida in 1981. i went to nursing school at good sam and worked in their ICU after graduation. where in cinti do you live? my husband was born and raised in cinti in the mt.washington area. he misses the chili the most i wonder if there is anything sb legal at Graeters? LOL!!

rosalie and happy-i have your agave on order and should get the call to pick it up next week, cross your fingers for the lower price!

zanne- glad you got your agave coming, thanks for the e-mail.

hope everyone else has a great weekend, like i said i cannot wait for the SB meeting. thanks to everyone for the support and woohoos on my improved healthstuff, I FEEL GOOD!

debbie-as i described above i may bring some famous skyline dip! i checked the box and even though there is tomato paste, there is 3grams of sugar in a 1 cup serving, no added sugar. does it sound legal? please say yes! i think BOB may be dreaming about skyline already!

take care all,

chris

Long time, no post, I know. I didn't even have time to read last week's posts. I finally got through this week's just now.

Welcome to all the newbies. You've no doubt discovered what a great group this is. And you all sound so enthusiastic! Keep the rest of us inspired.

My body is doing the weirdest thing since I started this WOE in August. It's started doin' the Deb thing, scales going up even tho I'm eating OP. I'm not too upset because teachers at school are asking if I'm losing and one even said it looks like all of a sudden it's just fallen off. And DH grabbed my waist tonight and asked where the love handles are? I am trying to cut back on fat and up veggie/fruit carbs. It's mid cycle, too. Everything and more you ever wanted to know about me  .

Pooch: My son's at Annapolis and although we haven't had to deal with cruises, we are faced with long separations. He just told me tonight that he may not get to come home in May, and that means 6 months without him. It's hard when you can't see your loved ones. I hope we can give you some support during this separation. And what a surprise at his homecoming!

Tina: I have to brag on my oldest DD. She made a one at solo and ensemble and qualified for state! She was told by the band director that if the HS choir doesn't go to UIL that she can't go to state. Do you know if that's the case? Her choir director's husband is critically ill with cancer and she just can't do anything extra. So they aren't going to UIL. We'll be pretty disappointed if she doesn't get to go to state. She'd like to have it on her resume for college. At least she has another year.

I hope everyone has a terrific weekend.
Good luck with garage sales, Deb.
BusDeb, hope you had a ball in Gatlinberg. Haven't been there in about 35 years. Probably won't even recognize it.

Take care,
Jeanie

Hi Everyone

Zanne - Thanks for the info on the bread. I always put my bread right in the freezer so I am not tempted to snack on it. Although when I do have it as part of a meal I am inclined to eat too much of it. The slices are kind of small compared to my other bread so I end up eating three slices. Bad me.

Sol - There's been corruption in the Olympics for a heck of a long time and I think it is just recently coming to the surface. Before no one would complain about it but now people are not afraid to speak out. As far as being an amateur competition - which it was supposed to have been before they let all the professionals in - that was a bit of a hoax as athletes from lots of countries were supported full time by their country which made it very unfair for the athletes who were truly amateur and had to work for a living while training for their sport. I've never tried cooking oatmeal with apples. It sounds rather gross. I do like apples cooked with pancakes though. I sometimes will slice up an apple and add it to the batter.

BKM - Thanks for ordering the agave. Let me know the cost and I will have the money ready when I see you.

Is anyone else having trouble having to scroll across the screen to read some of the posts. It makes it very difficult to read them. Are there any computer experts out there who would have any suggestions why this would happen. It was happening on page 6 for me (I edited my profile so I have 40 posts printing on one page). I went back and changed it to 5 posts to a page so I could try and see which post was causing the problem. The page with the problem was then either 25 or 26. That page started with BOB's post of today at 8.02 p.m. So the problem is probably in one of the 5 posts on that page. Any suggestions anyone?

Have to try and hit the sack on time tonite as I have to be up early in the morning.

Bye for now

Marie.

Just a quick "good morning" before my day turns to koas :dizzy:

I am really starting to love this message board - you guys are so crazy and so welcoming. I cannot wait to get to know more of you. I used to get up and read the paper (online) every morning with my coffee but know the highlight is reading everyone's posts. I will have to blame you all though when I can no longer help my kids with current event homework

I have also went looking at Fitday.com - it will take some learning but what a great tool to use.

BOB - kinda thought it was odd you suggesting to swing by and pick me up in Oct - no problem. I can get to the NC beaches in only an hour or a couple depending which area you have reserved.

Kimmy - Count me in as another Survivor watcher (plus CSI - my DD wants to be a crime scene investigator). We did get pretty interested in the Amazing Race and didn't know that was coming on again. But the best tv shows are all on HGTV - love everyone of those fix it, redo it, build it, remodel it, ....shows. I would love to have a really old house somday to restore.

For those of you that used to be able to get agave locally, where would you find it? We have quite a few nutrition / health food store around here I thought I would try. BTW - I have my mom and dad in MI starting SB and my sister-in-law in TN. :)

J Red - great that your son is at Annapolis - you must be a very proud mom :D The seperations are always hardest on mom's. For me the hardest part is dealing with sad kids. As an adult (by age not always actions) I can rationalize that he's gone for a good reason but to them he's just gone. I think SB is giving me a great distraction and yes I would like to look awesome while standing on the peir when the ship pulls in next fall

How long it it take you all to get used to whole wheat pasta? I still think it tastes gritty - any suggestions?

I'll check back in later - hope everyone has a SUPER day :spin:

Good Saturday Morning Everyone!

I'm up early, pooped, would love to go back to sleep on this rainy Saturday but seem to be up for the day.

Weather isn't that great for garage sales and there seems not to be too many to go to-probably not worth getting dressed and going-will not kill myself to go out, if I go, I go, but no big deal if I don't. We have a cool front suppose to come through after this rain-looking forward to that-let's hope it materializes!!!

Last nights party at STARBUCKS (BOB, YOU HAPPY) was a HUGE SUCCESS! There where lots of customers who came just for this event. Eli booked a band called THE COFFEE HOUSE GYPSIES and they were fabulous! There were 6 of them and I just can't begin to tell you all how good they were and the reaction of the crowd, it was standing room only and we had them glued there for hours! Eli had a full sheet cake made with the SB logo on it, and the customers I always talk about, the elderly couple, Minni and Morris, well Morris made a HUGE STARBUCKS STORE out of coffee stirrers-it came out great! This is from a man who has Parkinsons and very bad vision in one eye-it was truly a labor of love! We took lots of pictures and will share them with you when they come back-someday:rolleyes: Anyhow, it was a big success and I think not only was Eli happy, but his boss was very happy too. I know he has to be pooped out-he didn't get home til after 11pm last night and he was up at 4am to go back to work until 10pm tonight-he's going to look like the walking dead soon!!!!

BETH, how I basically figure out the caloric intake of people who ask is this...if you are moderately active take your current weight and multiply it by 12. From that number you'd take anywhere between
300-700 calories from that (usually I'd say 500 is a good average, or approx. that). That would be your caloric intake to start with (as you lose, it wittles down) To find out the % of carbs/fats/proteins you take the number you got and for carbs you multiply it by 40% and then divide that number by 4-proteins you multiply by 30% and divide that number by 4 also and for fats you multiply by 30% and divide that by 9 and that's how you figure it out. If you want, you can make it easy on yourself and just e-mail me your current & goal weight and I'll do the math for you:)

ZSU, so you are coming to the get together??? That's a pleasant surprise, I thought you weren't coming!!! That's great!!! What's the 5K you're walking in that morning-for what organization?

MELF, the SOUTHERN GIRLS post had BOB written ALL OVER IT!!!! I was laughing! She definitely is a SOUTHERN GAL all the way around!

SEF, here's the link to FRANFERD FARMS: http://www.frankferd.com/SWT.html They seem to carry the CUCAMONGA LABEL of agave. For me to ship you 1 case would be $10 for shipping, but 2 cases would be a bit less than $14 (didn't weigh them with the extra box, but should be about that). If 2 cases, it would tend to come out a little cheaper. LMK if I you can't find it closer to home and want me to try and get you some. Isn't that dog a trip!!!!

VES, laborous recipe-that's surely not for me!!! Hey, there's a great SGWW pancake mix made by FEARN that's wonderful-you should try that-hmmm, maybe if I have some I'll bring you a bag so you can make some to try yourself. I rarely make pancakes, but now that you mentioned it, I may just make some this morning!!!!!;) Will e-mail you at home later.

KIMMY, next time I update the BIO BOARD I will add in the question of fav. TV Show. The headaches are very common when you start SB and your body detoxes. Just stay strong and it will pass in a few days and you'll come out feeling like a new woman!!! As for cheating...I don't suggest it, esp. if you are like me and KNOW that if you cheat just once, you'll keep going in the wrong direction. I didn't have my first cheat until this past New Years and it was over-eating a bagel and some blintz souffle-not a bad cheat at all, but a cheat just the same. If it would of been something else, like a dessert filled with sugar, I'm sure I would of had problems. BUT, thank goodness, I have NO desire to cheat and eat stuff that's off plan. I've heard many people do so and feel sick as a dog afterwards. I don't like hearing that they are feeling ill after cheating:s: but it sure does help keep me in line-I get sick enough as it is-no need to help me along!!! So, when are you coming to FL to visit family??? New friends?? Hope you will at least try to make it to the OCT. GET TOGETHER-you can carpool with QUILTER!!!

BOB, Friday shopping is just fine and dandy with me! SOL said she'd come to dinner at Italianni's with us-can't wait. Will look on the web for the best price for that hotel this weekend and let you know. Nose plugs-how 'bout I just stuff your body into a body bag? That will be good enough protection! Then again-how about I get a King Kong sized condom and put you in that-if that isn't protection-what is???? LOL!!

SOL, I'm excited too-I think we all are! Heck, we thought we had a slew of food last time-can you imagine with more of us what the spread is going to be like this time!!! Oh my gosh-GLUTON BOWL II!!! Is VINCE ready to be surrounded by tons of estrogen that day?? He's a braaave man-oh, I forgot, he packs a gun!!
LOL!!!

HAPPY, don't let BOB let you think she's a PERFECT lady-she can gas up a room with the best of us! Hey, I hope you realize, I really don't FART-more like "pass wind oh so daintly!"

MEL, maybe if you didn't hit "the sauce" before you worked out you'd be able to dismount and not have bumps in bruises afterwards!!!" LOL! Girl, what the heck are you doing to yourself?? Actually, when I was a kid, I use to bruise so easily-hmmm, actually, I still do sometimes. Must be something in our genes and the tribe we both belong to! LOL!

BIGK, I took a peek at the SLC in the can-from what I remember, I thought it wasn't OP-l sugar I think? BUT, you are talking about a box of SLC? LMK and I'll give you my 2 cents worth-either way, now that you mentioned it, you better bring it, otherwise BOB may go ahead and take VINCES weapon and use it on me!!! As for eating SLC at the restaurant, when Eli and I have gone I basically pick out the beans-I'm weary to eat a dish when I don't know what's in it. I think I asked them if there was sugar in it and I do believe they said yes-how much is another story though.

JRED, glad you aren't worrying too much about what the scales do, or don't do and listen and see what your body does instead. I'm sure people and DH's noticing there's less of you makes you feel wonderful!!! Stay focused and the losses will show on the scale as well soon.

ROSALIE, I too had trouble with the posts being bigger than life on page 3 (my views show that we have 4 pages now). This has happened to me twice in the past, a few months ago. Asked SUZANNE about it and she didn't have that trouble on her end-never figured out why it happened and why it's doing it now-the funny thing is, it's not doing it on page 4, only on page 3!

POOCH, glad you have taken a liking to us-we feel the same about you:D Just wait til you get to meet us in person!!! It's better than you could even imagine! With you being only about an hour away from NC-you are a definite must come in OCT!! You could ask your local HFS if they carry or can get the agave. Most stores on the east coast will know of SWEET CACTUS FARMS, but there is CUCAMONGA still being sold at a few places out there. Many people don't know what it is, but if they look on their order forms, they may just see they can find it. Being that it's becoming harder to find, do try to do some searching soon. I have a stash for the next 2 years tucked away! Hoping by the time it's used up there will be an alternative out there.
I don't have trouble with enjoying the whole wheat pasta, though it's stronger tasting when you make lasagna noodles vs spaghetti. I think it just takes a little time to retrain your taste buds. I did it with the kids-they don't mind the spaghetti and smaller noodles, but they didn't like the lasagna noodles. Maybe try a different brand? Good luck to your DAD & SIL on SB!!! You'll be a great role model!!

Going to go get something to eat. Hope you all have a great weekend. I'll check in with everyone later today.

Hello, and what a wonderful day it is!!! Bright and sunny, though a little cold:(

Chris (BKM), I live in Loveland right now. I have lived here for almost 2 years and before that we lived in West Chester for 3 years. I am born and raised in Columbus though. My hubby did his fellowship at UC, so we moved here. I am a nurse as well. I went to a little college in the Columbus area called Otterbein. I do not work now, too many kids. Let me check my callander..nope, nothing on the 15th of June;) , sounds like a plan to me.

Deb...as for cheating, it is not in my plan. I am pretty clean of sugar and caffeine, due to Atkins. It was really hard for 2 days, but over that, feeling better. I sorta stopped Atkins 2 days ago, and funny thing is I now lost 2 pounds...I was stuck at 139 for 3+ weeks, stopped, and ate a few starches, and lost 2 pounds! Weird, but life can be weird! So what is in October? A planned meeting where? Sounds great, if I can get a sitter or my hubby....which is almost impossible. It sounds like a blast!

To everyone else, I will learn your names soon...a lot to learn at once!

Have a great day!!!

In Him,
Kimmy

Good Morning ladies. I woke up late with a NICE headache! Hoping to feel better soon.

Thanks to all regarding the comments about my GM. The doctor told my parents that she has classic "Sundowner's Dementia." I think she has it more than just during the darker hours, but it does seem to get worse that time of day. He gave her some precriptions and asked some orientation/memory questions during which she was fine. Time will tell.

DH went to the doc and he diagnosed him with what we thought, plantar fasciaitis. Said is plantar fascia (area on the bottom of the foot that generally starts with pain in the heel) is thickening from the imflamation and trauma. Offered to give him a shot, no way! Gave him something to wear in his shoe.

I was so sad  for Michelle Kwan, especially last night when they skated in the exhibition. I started cyring when I saw her with tears streaming down her face at the end, then Scott Hamilton's voice started breaking and it was all too much. Her ex-skate last night was sooo beautiful.

Daniel Pearl's death is a tragedy, but that is the risk you take when you go into those countries. Feel sorry for his wife and family.

My hair is short! And I like it! DH likes it too. It is more flattering and 10X more easy to fix.

Tried on some pants that I reported buying for goal pants for the spring/summer and I am almost in them! :D I predcit that I am about 5 pounds away from them fitting how I intended. Size 8! :smug: I am thrilled with this pants-o-meter report!

DH went to the gym with me last night to give me some weight lifting pointers. It was a trip working out with him. He gave me great advice. Wish he would join my gym and go with me more often. It's romantic to me.

DH is helping our neighbor's move today. They bought a house only a few blocks away. Interesting twist in the story... This is the couple who is very good buddies with Spewer and hubby. This is the same couple that we have distanced ourselves from somewhat since New Year's Eve when they acted so strange, which we later found out was related to Spewer having a NYE party and not inviting us. Remember all that? Anyway, we knew they were moving and had that they have lots of family plus "The Spewers" to help, so we just didn't offer and they didn't ask for help. Wellllll.... I got a phone call last evening from the sister (Allison of the beach house) of Mrs. Neighbor and she reported that Mr. Spewer was supposed to help them move. He had been promising Mr. Neighbor for weeks that he would be available on Fri to help load the truck. After Mr. Neighbor made several phone calls with no answer at the Spewer's he began to wonder. Finally Mr. Spewer phoned to say that he couldn't help that he had some appointments. So DH felt bad for them and went over last night and is over there today helping. Will these neighbors ever learn who the "real" people are who they aren't? It just blows my mind. Have no idea if Mr. Spewer is there today or not. And I predict that they will overlook the Spewer's lack of committment and will be all buddy-buddy with them next week! DH prefers to take the moral high-ground which always makes me proud. I'm not over there because Mrs. Neighbor is 6 months pregnant and I can't be around her with this rash, very bad for expectant women.

To learn more about Fifth Disease I have attached a direct to a short article on WEB MD (http://my.webmd.com/content/article/3607.449) WEB MD (http://my.webmd.com/content/article/3607.449)

DEB - That dog with the tongue was amazing! It is grotesque (sp?) really. Poor baby. I am so thrilled to hear that you have a social conscious when it comes to your gas! ;) It is too much fun to tease you about. The party sounded great. What was the occasion? I guess I missed that part somehow.

VES - I love long hair and do think it is slimming on many people, but not me. The shape of my face isn't forgiving to long hair. Wish it were. Tried several times over past few years to wear it long but it makes me look old and heavy. Go figure.

BETH - Great goal for your pants size. I hope you reach it.

ZSU - Glad you got some help with your shoes. Hope the one's you picked are wonderful and that you enjoy them for a long time. Don't think about the expense. You only get that one pair of feet and they are worth every nickel!

MELF - Listen here Hon! DEB is from the south, SOUTH Florida! That's not like the south at all! She doesn't even have a southern accent! I however am quite southern. I abide by the velvet and white fashion rules and have been known to play fashion police and hand out fashion citations, especially for those after Labor Day violators! I add "cute shoes" to the "How's ya mama?" phrase to make it "Keeey-ute shwez! How's ya mama and them?" The movies and the religion statements were right on! And that used to be my fa-vo-rite breakfast until I quit eating pork and started SB. And to top it all off I married a man in uniform in Charleston, SC on the waterfront, in a gazebo.... wearing a wide-brimmed hat! Guess I'm a true G.R.I.T. (girl raised in the south).

SEF - Like your 30 years post. Do you have any info you could give about sundowner's and what the progression could be. GM is 90.5 y.o.

ZANNE - DH and I are watching the hockey games too. Great aren't they? How is BFL going for ya?

KIMMY - I missed the Amazing Race too. There are lots of Survivor addicts on here, self included.

BOB - Your posts are X-wide on my screen. And yours are the only ones. Hmmm. If Skeeter gets loose up here he will end up in the shower getting a bath with DH too.

SOL - Love your excitement about registration and all the upcoming events. What time is the scheduled get together? I wanna come :^:

MEL - Be careful with that heavy metal! My left arm is sooo much weaker than my right. Gotta work it more in the gym with the db's and the bar!

ROSALIE - I am having trouble with the screen thing too. See my post to BOB.

POOCH - WW pasta is a bit of an acquired taste for some. I suggest pairing with other strong flavors to temper it. I like to put it in lasagna and pesto. There is a really great pesto you can buy in a small jar, I think it by Classico or Pesto. I toast a few pine nuts in olive oil and serve it with some fresh parm cheese. Try it.

OK, that's enough! Time to go get more water! Have a great day y'all!

Peace,
FROG

Good afternoon (just)! It seems to be spring here in Pa., which means we'll probably have a snowstorm next week and the bulbs will get clobbered. I can't remember a year lately where the daff's actually got to bloom without a layer of snow hitting them in March or April. DD flew home for the week-end, and stayed up all nite partying so she wouldn't have to get up early to make her flight leaving Columbus at 7:30 am. Ah, the wisdom of youth! She walked in the door like a zombie. But it's good to see her and she won't get home again til June. Playing a spring sport means no spring break, since they play thru it and have to stay at school or are on the road.

Frog- WTG on the goal pants! You are doing great! Glad you like your hair- I felt 10 years younger after I cut mine in the fall and got rid of the blond highlights that I think made it look gray. And boy is it easier with the constant drippy workouts! Hope your rash is improving.

Deb- Sauce before workouts?? LOL- the only sauce I hit these days is protein slurpees. Can't get too crazy on that stuff. Besides, I'm the main entertainment in the gym these days. What will that crazy old lady try next? Talked to my bro this morning: he is 10 minutes from Broward Co. Mall. He suggested we meet at someplace called "Outdoor World" that is closer to you and has a restaurant by a pond. He thought it would entertain my son better. He doesn't know that I'm planning on parking ds at his house for a few hours and going kidless! Whatever you'd like is find by me.

Sef- 30 year difference post had me rolling on the floor! I've pasted and emailed it to a lot of my friends. Absolutely perfect- I was a college freshman in 1972.

Hi everybody else, gotta go enjoy spring and clean up the gardens.

I have been on SB for 16 days now and I have lost 4 pounds. On Weigh In Wednesday I was 166 but now I am 165. This is so encouraging to see *results* so soon after switching from Atkins to SB, especially because of that 2 month stall I went through.

I am reading everyones posts and trying to keep you all straight in my head. I find it amazing how you all keep track of each other and answer the posts so well. I was accustomed to having responses to individual posts at my other board...just give me some time :) I have recommended this place to a few others who are wanting to switch from Atkins to SB because there is so much support and knowledge here.

Oh....my hair loss seems to have slowed down so I am assuming that the addition of the carbs has helped in that regard. That is a relief! I mean, hubby is supposed to go bald, not me! ;)

A question for you. Ketosis was sought after in Atkins and I was in ketosis for 4 months straight. In SB that is never mentioned and I know we do not have to concern ourselves with it. I have used some ketostix here and there since I switched to SB to just *see* if there was anything going on. I am still testing positive for being in ketosis. I am thinking this is a good thing, even with my carbs so much higher in comparison to what they used to be.
Are there any comments about this and do any of those who have also switched still test for that?

AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!!

FIRST....I think the WIDE PAGES are attributed to my last LARGE
OH MY GAWD!! exclaimation...I'll try to refrain from doing that...Sorry...I got so excited I couldn't help it. :(

It's a NASTY YUCKY day over here on the SW COAST OF FLA! RAIN
RAIN and more RAIN...4 inches over night...won't quibble thought..we need it badly..

I'm taking a break from the WAR and thought I would drop a few lines..I get so engrossed in this mini series every time it's on.
Only one more Saturday and then it will be over..I've looked high and low for my very own copy of the complete trilogy, but can't find it..If ANYONE sees it, please let me know.. :^:

BKM...I've seen SLC in the can..I know that KROGER carries it. I too can get the frozen, but it's must not the same...I LOVE THOSE CONEYS!!! Now, maybe I've dreamed this, but can't you get the chilli at the SKC stores with or without beans? Maybe it's the GOLDSTAR
I'll be looking forward to the can...I'll be METTING YOU AT THE DOOR!!! ;)

OK...WHO brought up CSI??? I love that show...and the AGENCY is a good one too..

ZSU...hope you can make it..looking forward to meeting you.

KIMMY...the get together we keep talking about is going to be
the 2nd weekend in OCT in North Carolina. FROG has graciously obtain a beach house for us that sleeps 35 people ...unfortunately...the whole top floor is reserved for DEBBIE...she has to be sectioned off from the rest of us
We're planning a long weekend, so hope you can join us...the more the merrier!

SHIRLEY...did you check out the SUPER BLUE STUFF?? ?? My Mom has been using it as directed and says she believes it is helping. Expensive, but if it works??? It will be worth it.

SOL...Oh that will be fun for you to meet us for shopping and dinner. I'll warn you, we are quite the shoppers and bargain hunters!

OK, I hear the cannon fire starting back up....I'll check in later...

Oh yeah...BOB , is a REAL GIRL!! :o

LATER....

HEY...SUSAN....IT'S ME...BOB :smug:

Why would we need additional sweetner for these when SF JELLO already has it in it? When you added yours, was it really sweet? or around cheesecake sweet????

Gracious- Ketosis is not a good thing! Hard on your kidneys, and eventually your heart. You should be eating enough carbs on SB to pull you out of ketosis and still lose. I would test yourself every once in a while just to make sure you are NOT in ketosis.

Gracious...
I quit Atkins 2 days ago after a 3 1/2 week stall and dropped 2 pounds. Pretty funny. My hubby on the other hand is loosing great. Everyone is different.
I don't think being in ketosis is a part of the plan on SB. Some may find them selves in ketosis, but you are not really suposed to be.

Bob,
CSI...that would be me! I am so hooked on that show! The Agency is pretty good too! I just don't watch tv that much. I get my kids into bed by 8:30 and finish cleaning up by 9:00...but I am so tired. I get on the computer or read most nights.
The thing in Carolina sounds so awesome! I would hope to be at my goal by then!!! If not, get out an axe..that will take care of it:D
Goal pants...WTG! I bet I could find a few of those around my house. They fit about 1/2 way up my thigh:(

I actually exercised.....I hate to exercise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But I did it. Not too much. About 30 min on the tredmill.....man, you should have seen the dust on that baby:dizzy:
So I am going to try to do that everyday...try!!!

Have a nice evening everyone!

Evening All:wave:

Today was a very BORING day. I didn't do a flipping thing all day-weather stunk-not even a garage sale got me out there today! Just a lazy arse day. Weather is appearing to clear up here though and it's getting cooler outside. I'm hoping tomorrow morning will be nice-may try to extend my walk by another mile if it is.

Thought I'd get in a post before it got too late-plus COPS is coming on;) My kids think it's a hoot that I watch that show-they call it "THE WHITE TRASH SHOW."

Eating has been fabulous today-though not water intake-had a sip, that's about it so far-will go have a "milkshake" and try to drink a bit more water.

I wanted to mention something that I thought was interesting and worth sharing, esp. for those of you who don't have a lot of weight to lose, or for those who are within a small range of getting to goal.

I was looking back on my WEIGHT COMMANDER PROGRAM and looked back to see when it was the first time that I hit the 10lbs from goal point. It was January 19, 2001-I didn't hit my original goal weight til almost 5 months later, on June 10, 2001. Remember, I didn't cheat and was exercising 6 days a week and it took me what appears to be a long time, but in reality, it went by quickly. I lost an average of 2lbs a month, which isn't bad at all.

Why do I mention this-just to show you all that it's a slower process when you have less to lose or near goal, but with patience and a goal in mind, you can do it. Not to give in easily because the pounds aren't falling off fast enough and you get discouraged and blow it all to smithereens-just stay focused and you'll be rewarded by getting to your intended goal weight:)

My preaching for the day is concluded;)

ZSU, I'm thrilled you are coming-I didn't want you to miss this either, but after you mentioned that you couldn't come I just figured that was final-so I'm glad you changed your mind : ) Looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the gang in just 2 weeks! Hope your nephew enjoyed his birthday party today!!

KIMMY, glad to hear you're doing well and feeling good-that's the way it should be;) As BOB mentioned, FROG secured us a beach house on the NC shore for the second weekend in Oct. (Thurs-Sunday) and we are having a SB GET TOGETHER for all those on the board! It's going to be a big event and one you won't want to miss-so start your planning NOW so when it comes up no one can say you didn't give them fair warning. We have some great stuff planned and it's going to be a once in a life time event-but hopefully, a huge success that we'll want to make it a yearly thing-who knows!

FROG, CONGRATS on the pant-o-meter! Girl, you are burning up the scale lately. I'm so sorry about the pics on the CD, pisses me off that they screwed this up. I'm hoping when I get a chance, I can get Michael to try to open it up somehow, he's lots better with this stuff than I am-I can't get it open for nothing! DH is a dear to help that couple-I hope they appreciate it, but if they are friends with Mr. & Mrs. Spewer I doubt it-but at least BP knows he's a good man!!! And so do you, and THAT'S what counts! Oh yes, I shall refrain from passing wind amongst new friends-as you watch me rise from the ground like a Macy's Day Parade balloon, just know, I'm holding it all in out of respect and friendship!!! The party at STARBUCKS was their 5th Anniversary at that particular store. Poor Eli must be pooped, not only from being sick, but working all day til late last night (I was asleep when he came home) and he had to open this morning, so was up around 4:30am and he won't get home til about 10:30pm-most likely, I'll be sleeping and I'm not sure if he's off tomorrow, or not!
Hope he is, he needs some rest and relaxation.

MEL, tell DB that I don't do fish, anyhow, I hear that place is expensive-of course, he would pick that place, it's a man's paradise! I've never been, no interest, but I've heard. No, no:nono: Ole Ole is a MUST! You've heard me speak of it every week. That is, unless you don't like that type of food. Then we can mosey over to WHOLE FOODS HFS and then some Carbolite and one other HFS and possibly, if time permits, one other low-carb store. He's only 10 minutes from Broward Mall, that's only 10 minutes from Ole Ole-it's right across the street!!!

GRACIOUS, CONGRATS on another pound down the drain:) Great to hear you're not going to need a hair transplant! People really don't realize just how terrible Atkins is from them. I've only met 1 person who was successful on it and I've met many who've tried it. Not knowing much about Ketosis, I'm sure more do than I, but I don't think you want to be in it at all on SB-hopefully, your body is getting out of that phase!

BOB, you are scaring everyone!!! Geez, let them meet me first before you sent me to the GAS CHAMBER!!!!:^: Yes, of course, your COLUMBIAN COFFEE is already here at the house. I'm just praying that Eli finds someone who doesn't want their coffee this week-I need him to bring some more home. Also, bringing up your canisters, your tomato splash and gosh knows what else I have for you-a few things, I think.

Okay, almost time for my white trash show-have a good one!

Hi everybody. Just now getting to get on the puter and catch up on the last couple of days posts. I took Thursday off to try and get over this crud. I slept alllll morning. and felt better when I got up. I went back to work Fri. We had an inservice day so I didn't have kids to deal with.:D Dennis is sick too and went to the dr. yesterday. Serious sinus infection. He's better today. We spent the day cleaning house. I didn't really want to, but he's full of whatever they gave him in that shot yesterday and he can't sleep. He's hyper.:dizzy: Anyway we got a lot of cleaning done. I haven't been too good the last few days. I'm really having trouble staying OP. Come on, girls, give me a pep talk.:^:
I know I'm a little behind with posting on the Olympics, but I had to say something about the women's skating. Sarah was fantastic, wasn't she. I wanted Michelle Kwan to win too, but it just wasn't to be. I think I told y'all that my brother is covering the figure skating for his paper. Anyway, I got an email from him yesterday and he was really excited about the whole thing. He said you just can't imagine how exciting it is there in person.

Jeanie: Congrats to your daughter. I don't know of any rule that says her choir has to participate in UIL. In fact, we have a girl from our hs that has made all state choir and we don't even have a choir program at Mt Vernon. Band directors are quite often difficult to work with. They see choir as a threat. So, he may have given you some bad info. I'll see what I can find out.

Well, I'm jealous of all of y'all that are getting together. Hey Jeanie, maybe we need to have a TX get together.:) If I haven't said it already....welcome to all you newbies. You'll love it here.

Gotta snooze.

Good Morning All!

Going to Pilates in a little while; it's my substitute for church:devil:

Debbie- That's so funny about "Cops"; DH loves that show, and my DS3 has been known to start singing the "Bad Boys" song when he sees a police car. We notice that you have about an 85% chance of being arrested if you aren't wearing a shirt.

Still waiting on my book from half.com. I did make a trip to Trader Joe's and Fresh Fields (Whole Foods) to buy some whole wheat products; I didn't see any agave nectar though.

Hope everyone has a lovely, relaxing Sunday.

Good Sunday Morning Everyone:wave:

It's an absolutely GORGEOUS DAY here in Miami!:D Only complaint is it's very windy, but otherwise a spectacular day!!!!

I have to say I AM PROUD OF MYSELF!!! Today I jogged longer than ever and added some addtional length to my walk. I did 5.35 miles today in 55:55 minutes and out of that I jogged a straight 4.90 miles-almost 5 miles. I wish I would of measured the length beforehand cause I could of easily added another .15 miles to it 5.5 miles and could of ran another .10 to make it 5 miles even. Oh well, next time!

Eli is working on his day off today. He has me pooped, he coughed ALL NIGHT LONG! Of course, it didn't seem to bother him, but me, that's another story-he's keeping me up, but I didn't say anything to him because I don't want him to go sleep on the couch. I'll probably have to take a nap later to play catch up.

I think this weeks poll had more responses than any poll to date. It's interesting, at least to me, to see the responses you all chose. The thing that I can see is, everything that people have a problem with, there's an alternative for you to be able to have something similar, yet be able to stay OP. With baked goods, just find something you can make with SB LEGAL products, chips, there's sweet potato chips, there's some wonderful soy protein chips (most are yucky, but there's a good brand I found), ice cream is okay, but you have to chose something like Breyers Vanilla, or even Coffee. There's lots of alternatives out there.

Not sure of what I am going to do today-kids are going with their Dad in 45 minutes-I need to get in the shower and get something to eat and decide.

MUSIC, sorry to hear you've not been feeling well. Must be something going around-Eli has cruddiness too!:^: What's going on that you are having a tough time staying OP?? I find many who are away from the board for long tend to have trouble-so get back on the board kiddo, we'll kick your butt back into gear!!!;) Wish you Texans would do a get together-you'd have a great time!!!!

SEMMENS, yeah, yeah, rub it in, you have a TRADER JOES and I don't. WAIT. If you have a TJ's in your area, does that mean MELIRIS has one??????? You should ask the FF Mgr. if he can order the agave for you-tell them the brand is SWEET CACTUS FARMS.

MEL, are you near a TRADER JOES??? PLEASE SAY YES!!!!! Please tell me you can bring me a few things if you do!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!!!!:^:

Okay, I'm a goner for the day. Please remember tomorrow is MOTIVAITONAL MONDAY so if you have any words of wisdom, quotes or stories that you think would be inspirational to share with the board, please, try to post them tomorrow!

Have a great day!!

Hi Everyone!!!

So sorry I’ve been MIA these past couple of days. Glad to see so many new names and all the good spirit that this board is made of. We’ve been busy. Paul’s trying his darnedest to get these machines all fixed for my office, but it’s taking so long. I don’t see how you all stand to use PCs. They are so complicated. But that’s just my opinion, don’t expect everyone to feel that way.

Got us yesterday with a sore throat that is lingering. I’m going to take it easy today. We’re having a big breakfast to thank Verizon for giving us a ton of money on Tuesday. So I have to be okay for that day. And tomorrow there will be a lot of last minute preps for it. Think I’ll sparkle on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Not bloody likely!!! We’re supposed to meet at the office at 6:45. Yuck! Double yuck!!!

I’ve been busy with my genealogy stuff. Went to the library on Friday afternoon and found the mother lode for one branch. An actual book published with the line coming all the way from England in 1630. How cool is that? Now I just have to get proof and that part is finished. It’s pretty exciting if you’re into that sort of thing.

FROG---Your Dixie sounds like an absolute doll. Close friends of ours just got a 1.5 year old chocolate named Bronze. She’s wonderfully laid back and so sweet. She got pregnant early at the breeders who owned her then and had a rough time with the birth and they had to do C-section. So the breeder wanted to find a good home for her and our friends lucked out. She’s perfect. I would love to have her. She’s just the kind of personality that our Maddie girl (the big worry wart) would get along with. Hey, I’ll keep your grandma in my thoughts and prayers. What a hard thing for all of you to be going through. Some of those meds they have out now can really help with it. I have an aunt who, last year, was really confused about everything and now she’s doing great!!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will help with your granny.

KIMMY---Yes, our weather has been really weird. Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat and it’s still here today. Yucksville. Thought I was actually going to skip the headcold nonsense this year. I watched the second Survivor, but skipped the third one. I kind of like it, but then again sometimes it bugs the heck out of me. So who knows what I’ll do. I may just listen to you and BOB talk about it. LOL BTW, you’ll do great with the transition from A to SB. You’ll feel like you’re in heaven with all the extras you get to indulge in. Also, read the note to BKM below. Think about getting together with us during the week if you want. I love SB get-togethers. I’ve met DEB once and BOB twice and we had so much fun. I felt like we’d known each other for years the moment we said hello. By the way, what area of town do you live it? I’m in Mt. Airy.

MELF---I loved your tribute to BOB. That was great. Since I live just across the river from Ohio and since I lived in the mountains of TN for four years, I consider myself pretty close to being a souther girl. That was so good.

SEF---Your Friday funny was great. How true, how true!!!

BOB---My bad on the KROGER faux paux. Please forgive me. We were there yesterday and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that Kroger plus card. You can really save with it.

BKM---You’re right about that Skyline Dip. It’s WONDERFUL!!! And around here, if you’re going to a party, you can bet your last paycheck that somebody will bring it. Yes, I think we should meet at the Skyline. That will give you a good excuse to “have” to eat it again. I think I forgot to tell BOB this, so I hope she sees it here. BOB, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION. I heard a radio advertisement last week for Skyline where they have a new selection called THE SKYWARD. They said that the 3-way is the most popular selection. So they’ve made the Skyward to be a 3-way with DOUBLE CHEESE!!!!!! Oh my gosh, just color me died and gone to heaven!!! Now there’s something else for you to look forward to when you get here.

DEB---Eli’s party sounded fantastic. Live music is always a must for a great party. Their name really fit. I don’t know how he keeps up with those ridiculous hours. What a god!!! Way to go on your jogging. You are doing great!!! Would you breathe on me so that I could catch what you have?????

Okay, that’s it for me. I know I missed some of you and I’m sorry. Hopefully, next week will be better.

Take care.

Debbie-

Mel has a Trader Joe's within about 45 minutes if I'm not totally confused; there's one in Exton. I go to the one in Abington, which is a good 40 minute drive for me usually.

I love the fish they have there, especially the frozen salmon burgers. Plus their price on almond butter is about half that of FF for the same brand. I also get nuts and frozen berries there.

Laura (semmons) - I'm in Exton almost everyday and I've never seen a Trader Joe's there! Where is it, do you know? I've been to the one in Wayne (Gateway shopping Center) which is about 20 minutes. Exton would be wonderful ( 7 minutes the other way). Where do you live, laura?

Deb- from above discussion- yes, I can get stuff from Trader Joe's for you. Just send me a list. Personally, I like Fresh Fields a whole lot better, but I know there are some particular TJ items you like. Just let me know what you want and I'd be glad to bring it. As long as I don't need a pickup truck to get it all! As for Ole Ole, that sounds great. I've never met any kind of food I don't like, except KFC doesn't look realy appealing anymore. CONGRATS on your jogging! Girl, you're gonna be running that whole marathon next January while us slugs do the 1/2!

Today is my BFL free day, and after last week's foodfest, decided to keep it SB legal like I had in the past. Ate way too much at a Sunday brunch, but it was all legal ! so I shouldn't feel like I was run over by a truck tomorrow. Just too full:devil:

Can't wait for the Canada- US hockey game but I still don't know who to cheer for. Unfortunatly, I have to go to a meeting for ds's summer exchange program at 4:30 so I won't see much of it:( Dh refuses to go to the meeting. A true Canadian, hockey comes first.

Okay maybe it's the Wayne one I'm thinking of sorry! I live in Hilltown (northwest section of Bucks County, there will never EVER be a TJ here!). The Abington one is closer for me but neither is terribly convenient. We went to Wayne a few weeks ago to pick up some more lovebirds, and stopped in the one there.

Hi everyone

It finally happened - I am also wearing an old pair of jeans that have been tucked away waiting for me to fit in them once again. I've been "saving" them for 2 years. I put them on about a week and a half ago but they were still snug. Yesterday I didn't have any clean jeans to wear (I hate doing laundry) so I figured I could wear them just long enough for me to wash my others. I was so excited - THEY FIT :D My DD lasted on SB for about 5 days and now is getting worried that I may end up the same size or even smaller than her - heehee. Slowly she is adjusting just becuase I don't buy all the junk I used to. She tried shoving cake in my mouth - it's killing her.

Debbie - I have a couple of agave questions for you. Why is it getting hard to find it? I stopped by one of our local health food stores and they can get it within a week. I just want to make sure I'm getting the right stuff. They sell it in 8oz jars in either light or dark form for $3.45. Does this sound correct? I don't remember the brand - sorry.

All this talk of Kroger sent me to check out one near our house. I just needed a few things but spent an hour looking at all the stuff they had - they even had a section of the store that was all natural stuff. Pretty interesting. They by far had the best looking produce section so I'll be shopping there quite often.

I am so impressed with all you joggers/runners - I have been one of those couch potatoe moms for way too long. When I was 12 I was in gymnastics and took a bad fall and hurt my hip. Since then I can not do things that put a lot of pressure on the joint (running, aerobics...). We have a gazelle and it is working great. Anyone else have one of these?

Hello everyone! It is a beautifu day!

My 4th grader just won one of their basketball tuney games!!! It was exciting, though his sport is soccer.

Kim...
I live in Loveland. We did live in West Chester. I am from Columbus, so I am not real good on areas yet...and it has been almost 5 years. Are you a football fan? Hard to love those poor Bengals, huh. I actually am not big into sports, but am a big OSU fan. I did cheer for the bengals, but for more personal reasons....my son loves them. Plus his best friends dad was one of the coaches till he quit 2 months ago.
I would love to meet anytime. I am a stay at home mom who has not met too many people, aside from church. So the more the better. Not to mention, someone who is doing this WOL.

Have a great day all!!

Evening All:wave:

Had plans to go shopping today by myself, just to get some COCONUT CARBOLITE. I called the shop, gal tells me, no coconut today-but the owner PROMISED me there would be coconut-I was upset, to say the least. So decided I wouldn't go up there. About 2:30pm she calls me to tell me she didn't realize the machine at the end had COCONUT! Well, Eli was at work and I had told him I was staying home then when he called me back told him they did have COCONUT-that wonderful man of mine told me to come pick him up-took me out to dinner and then we got a MEGA SIZE COCONUT!:spin: What he doesn't do for me!!! What a guy!!! I pigged out! More than likely I'll see a gain tomorrow from too much maltodextrin in there-I won't tell you what size it was, but it was bigger than a large-et's just say, you know how they pack sherbert in the plastic containers-that's what I got! BUT, Eli did eat a little of it-I do share, you know;)

Anyhow, I'm in my jammies and going to watch the boob tube in a few-just thought I'd get in a post before the night gets old.

QUILTER, how did you get all the way back to the 1600's? I'd love to find my roots, but gosh knows I'm such a mixture, I don't know how far back I'd be able to go! That really is pretty cool. Did you find any royal blood in you?? Hope you feel better-bad to feel icky. Hey, I can breath on you, but I bet if I gave you some hellacious gas I could certainly get you to run then!! LOL!!!!

MEL, okay, is ANY TJ's within a decent distance to you? I don't want you to go out of your way-no, I'd be the only one to travel 4 hours to go to a Trader Joes! I really don't need much, just a few staple items is all-if not, don't worry about it, not that there's anything I don't have in reserves-just don't like running out. They need to build one just for me down here!!! Trust me, I'll be walking most of that marathon next year-you'll only see this bootie run downhill and on flat lands-we have no hills here and I am not running up any of them up there!;)

SEMMONS, I hit every TJ's in any a city I go to-Calif. Nevada, Maryland-I go to them all-when I went to visit NANCE (board member) in Palm Dessert I went 3 times in the few days I was with her-lets not mention the 3 I hit in Vegas during the same week! I can't agree with you more about the MARANTHA ALMOND BUTTER, price can't be beat! Their WW pita is wonderful, the TOMATO SPLASH is great, love their EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL-their cheeses, esp. the CELTIC CHEDDAR & FF JALAPENO-they even have the 75% CABOT CHEESE I buy down here. Lots of goodies-I love that store!!!!

POOCH, CONGRATS ON THE PANTS!! I have some of those pants too. Size 6 CALVIN KLEINS bought about 6 years ago-still has the tags on there-going to put them in a museum one day! I'm smaller than my DD who's 14, but she could care less, really. Give your DD a run for her money-or her clothes!!! The reason agave is hard to get is because there was only 1 importer bringing it into the US and they stopped doing so-just stopped all at once, without warning. Seems the tequila makers have to only use 51% blue agave in their tequila and can put wild agave for the rest of it. Blue agave got so expensive, so they were importing the wild. Then the tequila people started to pay MORE for the wild and they didn't want to sell it cheaper to the importer, and he was losing money, so he just stopped importing it. Whatever stock is out there is old, but still appears to be good. The shelf life was thought to be 2 years, but seems that if you keep it out of the heat and light probably for longer-hope so, I have about 80-90 bottles I think! The HFS is selling it above retail, suggested retail price is $2.99 a bottle for SCF, but I have seen CUCAMONGA for more at little mom and pop HFS. I pay $2.59 a bottle. It's a little steep, but if you want it bad enough, you'll have to pay. Hopefully it's Sweet Cactus Farms, I know their supply was not as aged as CUCUAMONGA. As for light vs dark, I have light, dark is not filtered and a bit stronger is all-both are okay, but given the choice, go for the light. If you are contemplating buying a case-ask for a case discount-some stores will give them if you buy a case. I've just been jogging since May, started doing a few feet and thought I'd die-just did a little more each day-can't believe where I am today-it amazes me!!

KIMMY, CONGRATS to DS!! You and QUILTER have to make plans to meet-trust me, she's a doll and you will love her!!! Paul's a sweetie too!

BOB, I can NEVER find anything in the mess at BEALLS at SAWGRASS-okay, I take it back, I did find one pair of pants there-but otherwise, ti's a mess in that store and I don't have the pateince to sift through all the crap. Your SWEETIE did offer SHORTY'S today, should of gone there-went to OUTBACK and they had the nerve to charge $3.99 for a tiny salad with only lettuce, tomato and cuke-highway robbery. Had that and a sweet potato-wanted to save room for the mega-Carbolite I got!;)

Okay, gals, I'm outta here-see you all sometime tomorrow morning!

Hi All!
Had a terrible eating weekend  I swear, I ate just as if I was not on SB. Sometimes I wonder why I bother. I lose a couple of pounds and then gain it back, lose than gain! Today was such a lazy day. DH has the gout :( ! So he's gimping around. Well I have to get my "mind" :dizzy: right, and begin again tomorrow! Why is it so hard to get focused? I read you guys' posts and think "wow" they are so great and so determined. I just don't understand why I am so weak when it comes to food. I am strong in all other aspects of my life. I guess that eating foods I like (bread, cheese, sweets) make me feel good. Oh well, I'll get a good nite sleep tonite and begin again tomorrow - afterall, tomorrow is another day  ! DH has to work tomorrow night, so DS and I will behave for supper. I have to go to Victorias's Secret in the mall and return a bra that the wire popped out of, so hopefully we'll go to Dunderbaks - I'll have a sandwich on Rye.
Ok, regarding Orlando: I was thinking if you, Deb, could bring some of that fresh baked pita bread - I could bring either tuna salad or cold cuts. What doyou think? Let me know everyone, your preference - tuna or cold cuts. What is Ole Ole - it sounds Mexican and I didn't really think there was much Mexican that was legal? We have Don Pablos here (which I love but try to stay away).

Ok guys- gonna go. Wish me luck tomorrow! I need strength to get thru an entire week without cheating!!!!!!;)

Well, it’s Sunday night and I’m still feeling under the weather. I really, really hate a sore throat. Kind of reminds me of something I read by the great vietnamese buddhist monk Thich Nacht Hahn. He said, you never really know how good it is to NOT have a toothache, until you have a toothache. That’s where I am today. Realizing how grateful I should be on the days when I don’t have a sore throat. Waiting eagerly to be able to rejoice in NOT having a sore throat.

Well, I just made a fabulous salad. Just used a splash of balsamic vinegar and that was perfect!!! Who needs all that heavy salad dressing??? But honestly, my stomach is a bit upset what with all this ick in my head. And I really didn’t enjoy it that much.

KimmyTK---Mt. Airy is in the sort of southern western part of the city. So we certainly aren’t next-door neighbors. But that doesn't mean we can't meet. Do you ever go to Kenwood Mall? Is that the closest mall to you? Have you ever been to Jungle Jim’s to grocery shop? It’s on Route 4 kind of close to Tri-County Mall and boy, is it a trip!!! They have fabulous produce and all sorts of ethnic foods. It’s really a fun place to shop. But I usually spend way more when I go there, just because they have so much to choose from. I’ve seen some of the almond butter and special things like that there that Deb has talked about. That might be a fun place to meet. Then we could confer over what’s legal and illegal on SB.

BOB---I knew those new Skywards would beckon your name. Are you sure you don’t have a trip to Louisville planned in the near future? Hey, were those doggie beds big enough for our girl Maddie? Her beds are always over $50. Her best bed cost me almost $100 by the time I paid for the shipping charges. But she loves it and that’s all that matters.

DEB---Happy to hear that you got your carbolite fix today. Eli is THE MAN!!!! Hey, you can breathe on me for inspiration, but just don’t go donating any more of the gaseous emissions my way. Believe me, I have way more than I can handle in that area. LOL Hey, how did you lasso Tinkerbell and teach her to write your name? That’s so cool!!! About the ancestors . . . no royalty as of yet. I really stumbled upon this book at the library that had a ton of them listed. I was lucky because it was such a strange name, Ong, and there aren’t a whole lot of them out there. So then I found this guy’s database on the net and he had a bunch of Ongs listed. I emailed him and he answered some of my questions.
