Dieting with Obstacles - Hypothyroid, PCOS with IR unable to loose weightView Full Version : Hypothyroid, PCOS with IR unable to loose weight wahinegirl 02-27-2008, 01:18 AM ??? ebarfield 03-06-2008, 04:39 AM :smug::^::grouphug::grouphug:Just when I thought no one understood, I came across this sight. I was just diagnosed with Lupus and am on Prednisone. I have gained a significant amount of weight and am having difficulty walking. My lower back, neck arms and legs always feel so sore. I am quite swollen and uncomfortable. I did decide this week I was not going to let this get the best of me. I have found inspiration in all these posts, I am so comforted by the fact I am not alone. I walk as much as I can, as difficult as it is most of the time, but I find myself going a little further everyday. I have started to really pay attention to what I eat and making sure it has nutritious value. So far I do feel less swollen and am able to get around much better. After what I have gone through last year I know I can do this. I suffered a stroke, had a pericardial effusion, a kidney removed and diagnosed with Lupus, all in a period of 6months. Good Luck to us All. wahinegirl 03-12-2008, 11:51 AM My goodness...you do have some obstacles but there is hope and you will find it. Don't stop until you do!! Yes, it is very hard but first thing first, you are not alone and this is possible. It may take some time and you may not see a fast result as some of the others around here. But this doesn't mean you stop or give in. Now you need to focus on your quality of life and being happy. Since joining this site I have lost 7 lbs. As suggested by Michelle1235 (??) I cut out breads, potatoes, pastas, tortillas and so. I too get a whole lotta swelling, very bad in my arms and legs, I can feel the water. After a few months of eating an average of 1100-1200 cal and nothing lost I started to give up. I realized it's not so much how many calories I ate it was more of what I was eating. Even the whole wheat and grains were not doing anything for me. I guess it's similar to the South Beach Diet. Please let me know how you are doing! Wahine Girl frustratedieter 03-24-2008, 06:33 PM I'm hypo-thyroid and also insulin resistant and for awhile (say it in years) haven't been able to lose a significant amount of weight despite diet and exercise. Up until about 2 1/2 weeks ago, I was on a lo-fat food plan and was highly frustrated (have done weigh watchers and others too) so did some research and found that "lo-fat" plans are counter-productive for insulin resistant persons. Along with this research found that SOUTH BEACH would be the way to go!!! So began my journey. About 2/3's of the way through Phase 1 I got weighed and had lost 6lbs!!! I was amazed as I haven't had that kind of loss in I can't tell you when. I'm in Day #4 of Phase 2 and am so glad I found this. I'm also using another site that might be helpful... www.*************************/forum This site has been VERY helpful! I might have heard about it here, even. Best wishes!! I'll keep you all updated as I progress. As stated below I'm sorry---guess they don't allow me to share that website here.
