ASH ~ just wanted to let you to know that there ARE many people with this eating disorder out there. Sadly, many people are too embarrassed to come forward and admit it! As a counsellor, I have met many women with this problem, and just as many in my private life: friends, acquaintences, and co-workers who have, or had this problem.
This problem can be managed; one way is to make up your mind that this isn't an acceptable solution to your eating issues. A helpful mantra when the urge hits, is to say to yourself 'This is not helpful, healthy, or wise'. And if you slip up, forgive yourself, and just keep on going the next day.
Yes, some people are ignorant in this world; and that is important to remember: they are rude and ignorant, and not worth wasting our attention on. We can't change the bad behavior of others, but the smartest thing we can do is to ignore them, and disassociate ourselves from them.
Is there an EATING DISORDER group where you live? Or even a Overeater's Anonymous group? That may help you to make friendships with others who have a similar problem, esp if you cannot find anywhere to go for private counselling. Do you have a friend or relative who you can confide in, that is truly caring and understanding? That would be a good start.
And stick around here; you will see people with similar problems come in now and then. Hope and pray for you that you can find something that helps you soon. Most importantly, don't ever give up; there is a solution to every problem in this world: just keep seaching until you find the right one for You!
