Food Talk And Fabulous Finds - Favorite bottled dressings
01-30-2008, 12:43 PM
I am sure this has been discussed many times but what are your favorite bottled dressings. I am looking for ones that are low-fat and basically low-sugar (like the fat-free Catalina but has loads of sugar!):(
I just can't seem to get enough salads lately and I want to make the best choices as well the tastiest!

Trader Joe's Low Fat Parmesan Ranch! Mmmmm.

Trader Joe's Ranch fan here too. Also love their Caesar
Newman's Own dressings - just recently tried these. The sun dried tomato and the sesame ginger are fabulous. Very low fat but they have the mouth feel of a hi fat dressing. I wish I had found these sooner

I love Annie's Naturals Gingerly Vinaigrette (http://www.consorzio.com/catalog/gingerly-vinaigrette-dressing-p-1000024.html).

I'll ditto the vote for Newman's Own Sesame Ginger. It's my favorite! I use it on salad. Sometimes I'll mix it into brown rice or veggies. I'm not sure about the sugar or fat, but I know it's got 35 calories per 2 Tbsp serving.

South Beach Balsamic and Kraft Light Ranch

I love Trader Joe's Fat Free Balsamic Vinaigrette. It doesn't look very appetizing, but it tastes great. I also love their Raspberry dressing. And I love Bernstein's Light Fantastic.

Ken's Steakhouse Ranch or Northern Italian:)
01-31-2008, 01:28 PM
I'd recommend Galeos. They contain no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, or MSG & are low in fat, sugar, salt and carbohydrates. First found out about these dressings from The Biggest Loser show. Very delicious & don't have that dreadful fakey taste like some of the FF/LF dressings.
You can check them out at galeoscafe.com. They have a store locator (Trader Joe's usually carries it too even though not listed.) or you can order online. :)

Ken's Steakhouse Ranch or Northern Italian:)
Yes, I'm a big fan of all of the Ken's Steakhouse light flavors! I think my absolute favorite is the Caesar light (not the creamy Caesar).
I live in Florida and a southern chain here, Publix, has a line of light dressings that are similar to Ken's, but less expensive.
I also adore Naturally Fresh brand Ginger Dressing. 2 Tbsp = 70 cal. It's found in the produce section. Naturally Fresh Jalapeno Ranch is so spicy that I only need 1 Tbsp, or 60 cal, for a big salad. Oooh it's hot though!

The Paul Newman lite Basalmic is terrific! It is only 45 calories for 2 Tablespoons. I can't seem to get enough salad lately. My body is craving crispy veggies!!

I really like Ken's Lite Northern Italian. Another favorite is Trader Joe's Champagne Pear Vinaigrette.

OMG, the TJ's Champagne Pear Vinaigrette sounds to die for. I wonder how come I never saw that one? Thanks for mentioning it.
I like TJ's balsamic vinaigrette, the Parmesan ranch, the ginger/soy/sesame, and the raspberry.
tired of the size 20

I just discovered the Kraft Red Pepper Italian recently... very low in calories and a lot of flavor for your calorie buck. It's not marketed as low fat or anything like that...

I make my own dressings. I usually make oil/vinegar combos, but here is my favorite low calorie dressing. It tastes similar to the Annie's brand Goddess dressing. Yum! I got it off of the fatfreevegan website (I'm not vegan, but she has great recipes.)
Lite Goddess Dressing
6 ounces lite firm silken tofu (1/2 pkg. of Mori-Nu)
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons low-sodium soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon tahini
2 green onions, white parts removed, chopped
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, packed
1 large clove garlic
Place all ingredients in blender and process until smooth.
Makes 10 servings of 2 tbsp. each. Per serving: 19 Calories (kcal); 1 g Total Fat; (45% calories from fat); 1 g Protein; 1 g Carbohydrate; 0 mg Cholesterol; 164 mg Sodium

Walden Farms Bleu Cheese "Dip" (it is really the consistency of dressing) mixed with about a teaspoon of kalamata olive tampenade.
Ken's lite raspberry walnut vinaigrette.
Good Seasonings lite greek vinaigrette.

Hendrickson's Unique (a Midwestern brand, oil-and-vinegar)

I love Ken's Lite Northern Italian, I haven't had it in ages though. I should remember to pick it up next time I am food shopping.
I also like Walden Farms Caesar. I love that I can actually have a chicken caesar salad that is actually healthy.

Google Mariel Hemingway's spinach salad dressing. I watched her on Rachel Ray's show make this with fresh spinach, basil, mustard, EVOO, kalamata olives all blended together. I am going to try to make this one!

Where do you find Walden Farms products???
02-19-2008, 11:48 PM
You should be able to find Walden Farms products in a regular supermarket. They aren't with the rest of the dressings though, usually in a refrigerated (and maybe Organic?) area. In my local supermarket its near the produce section and in a refigerated area with veggie dips and such.

I just ordered some walden farms products I am anxious to try them...i hope they are good.

I bought a bottle of Kens Lite Accents Asian Vinaigrette spray dressing  and thought well...I'll prob wind up throwing it away b/c it sounds to good to be true.
ITS AWESOME !!!!!! 10 sprays is 15 calories and ya know, a spray really went a long way...I was quite surprised.

Annie's all natural Tuscan Italian dressing. 80 calories a serving and it tastes like restaurant quality balsamic. It's also gluten free with no added sugars.
