Way to go by abstaining between breakfast and lunch-- Yahoo!

AND 20 minutes of biking is taking excellent care of yourself.

Hurray for you!

Way to go.

I like the saying or something like this: To not have a plan is a plan to fail. It's true for me when it comes to food and reading your post t his morning reminded me of it.

Thanks for posting and keep on doing it, seems to be working.

You are sticking to that food plan! Awesome.

But, your food plan is only one part of your program...otherwise it's not much more than a diet.

So, how is the rest of your program going? I'd love to hear what you've learned.

Marny I really don't know what to say. I am from Alanon so looking at the program from the other side of things is different. I have been reading the OA For Today and the brown OA book with peoples stories. I really didn't start having an eating issues until 2 years ago. I have been thin my whole life. Then my thyroid went extremely overactive and I was losing even more weight and the doctor said eat as often as you can. Well I did and enjoyed it greatly lol. Well then I had radiation my thyroid was killed but I ended up with this overwhelming desire to eat all the time. I was used to doing it by then. Also all my life I never had to concern myself with what I ate and how I ate. So this past year and a half I would find myself exercising like crazy, eating sensibly but having binges on junk food. Then every time I got upset (which seems to be alot) I would eat. I tried diet after diet as once I had the radiation I gained 30 pounds. But I knew I had to change . Even last night I was talking to my husband and saw a bag of chocolate covered almonds. My brain started churning and I had to walk out of the room because I knew I couldn't be in the same room.
So I am learning that it doesn't matter that I didn't struggle with eating all my life the fact is I am now. And now is what I have to deal with.
Hmmm alot more than I thought I would type lol
I am working through the 12 step book too.

Hey there-

I'm in another 12 step program too. From what I've learned and talking to other folks who have worked more than one program, this food thing is a bit different. It's everywhere, it's required as part of our daily living, it's acceptable, it's legal, it's offered to us all the time... We definitely can't abstain on our own. We need all the support we can get. So, do you have an OA sponsor? Have you found an OA meeting that you like?

Reading back over this, it reads a bit like a judgement and a quiz, and that's not how I meant it. My point was that you are working so very hard on the food part of your program, but the compulsive eating is only a symptom of the disease. So, we need to work a lot deeper to get to the source. We need to work the steps.

You are doing great with the food plan.

Marny has some great suggestions. I too am wondering if you are attending OA meetings as they are a great help. It takes one to know one as the saying goes.

Asking someone to be my sponser was very important to me. Left on my own I mess up really quick. I need someone who has gone before me and knows what I'm talking about even when I get to ranting and raving.

Keep posting and you have my support in whatever you are doing too.

We can not do this a lone if we could we would not have a eating problem.

hugs
pat d

Keep posting going to Curves and I might just follow!
