What do you remember from the 70s, that you actually used?

Fragrances - Wind Song, Cache, Jean Nate (and some other lemon perfume that I can't recall) Love's Baby Soft, and Sweet Honesty by Avon.

Pale blue nail polish, and of course matching eye shadow.

Shampoo - Agree, Gee your hair smells terrific, and Suave Strawberry Essence.

Mud face mask.

OMG.....what a walk down memory lane!! I could not only see but SMELL each of those things you named LOL!! Those were the good old days where your choices were to smell like a lemon or a baby -- but they really were sexy scents! I'd love to get my hands on some now.

I also remembered a few more -

Hair - Body on Tap shampoo (supposedly had beer in it), and Adorn hair spray

Deodorant - Tickle (with the round colored ball tops)

Seabreeze astringent -- and it stung, but zapped the zits!

I'll think of more as the day goes on! THanks for starting this thead!

Ahhh.... those were the days....

Mr Bubble, Kissing Sticks, Sunshine Tuesday (not a product, but oh Lord how I loved her!)... HairNet Hairspray!

When I saw this thread I thought I had seen somewhere that a store offered a lot of these products, including Gee, your hair smells terrific, and I googled it and found it!

http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/

I can't make any claims to the authenticity of the stuff since I wasn't around back then, but has anyone ever bought stuff from these people?

You "youngsters" are too cute......LOL......make a woman feel old, wouldja??!!

Thanks for the link, too - I checked it out, and while the names are the same, the packaging is WAY different, and I wouldnt' risk paying $15 for a bottle of shampoo that may or may not be the same.....but fun to look and reminisce, anyway!

Noxzema? Is that from the '70's? I think these are from the '70's:

I remember Charlie!

Also, Enjoli with the cool song I still can sing today:

I can bring home the bacon,
Fry it up in a pan,
And never let you forget you're a man,
'Cause I'm a WOMAN, Enjoli!

SUCH memories. Gosh. I can't think of any to add, too long ago for me, but I am enjoying thinking about some of these things.

My daughter use Love's Baby Soft now and it always takes me back every time I smell it. I STILL love it. Charlie, on the other hand, I didn't like it so much. Oh well.

I liked the Charlie commercial, not the scent, either!

The only things I ever used (once or twice, really) were Noxzema and Love's Baby Soft, in the '80's.

Braids and pigtails in the early 70's with those long strings, I forget what they were called, they came in different colors.

omg!!!! They really were some good times, weren't they? I can remember my Gloria Vanderbilt jeans with the embroidered swan on the coin pocket. some other fashions were velour shirts, dolman sleeves, jordache jeans, skinny double belts, rabbit fur jackets, marshmallow shoes (they were the black suede shoes with the big white platform heel) god, they hurt badly, but that didnt stop me. oh, remember earth shoes, buffalo sandals and clogs.(oooh, my shoe obsession started a long time ago). Polyester clothes, Ponds Cold Cream, Noxema, Toni Home Perms, Shalimar perfume, rollers & curlers (women would go shopping w/a kerchief over them), spoolies, white lipstick, blue eyeshadow, black mascara, Tangee lipstick & blush (it was the same color in the container but would magically transform to the right color for you when you put it on).

I think this was the most unattractive generation & my HS yearbook proves it! :D

p.s. The Vermont Country Store has excellent products...been buying from them for years. :)

Wella Balsam Shampoo. Prell Shampoo. Thought the green liquid was so pretty. :p
Lip gloss. Was an adolescent, not allowed to wear makeup but I got away with the lip gloss.
Noxema. I still use it, on and off. Used to use it for sunburns, too, but haven't had one of those in a long time.
I also remember the Enjoli song. And remember "Your Windsong stays on my mind...."
Loved my Earth Shoes. So comfortable. Buffalo sandals. Dr. Scholls...eek!
I remember being so thrilled with the first pair of straight leg designer jeans (as opposed to bell bottoms) that I got. I then proceeded to rip them on a fence I was climbing and scarred my leg as well. :o

Cachet perfume, Windsong perfume

Marathon candy bars, Buck-Wheats cereal, Mello Yello soda

Plaid everything in early 70s, the Prep Look in mid-to-late 70s (I loved my penny loafers!), Dr. Scholls sandals, track suits

Figurines - I actually lost weight with those.

Do you remember the Gee your hair smells terrific came out with a yellow bottle that was "Sun" scent or something? As opposed to the original dark pink bottle. Wow that smell of the yellow bottled one was so great I would do anything (almost) to have a bottle? Who made it does anyone know or remember the manufacter? Anyway I just was remembering my flatsy doll and I won one on ebay YEAH! What about the Marshmallow sole shoes? dark blue with the White chunkie soles? Anyone remember that?

I remember all of this stuff! I practically lived on Tab... What where those platform shoes with the wavy soles called? It started with an Fan..? I cannot remember!

Ooh, I found some lotion/scent at Bath & Body Works that smells very much like Jean Nate--White Citrus I think is the name. I bought 3 tubes of the lotion (had a coupon for buy 3, get 3 free) for myself for the summertime, cause that's what it smells like!

Wow, this brings back memories! I used to save up my babysitting money to buy those strong smelling essential oil perfumes from Spiritual Sky. Strawberry and blueberry were my favorites and I would reapply them several times a day until everyone around me at school was gagging and asking what that horrid smell was....
Dr. Pepper lipsmackers, which actually is still the perfect color lipstick for my coloring, LOL...

Commercials:
* I can't believe I ate the whole thing .....
* Let's give it to Mikey, he won't eat it, he hates EVERYTHING!
* I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper, she's a Pepper, we're a Pepper, wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too?

And re: Prell -- I liked the commercial with the pearl floating down, showing how thick it was. Like that makes it a better shampoo? But it was cool.

Did I watch too much TV as a teenager?

Bell bottom jeans with patches on the seat. Grass-scented cologne. Baby doll tops.

Oh boy does this bring back memories!!

Memories of ...

... My mother spraying Sun-In on my hair before I went outside to play, trying to prolong my childhood blondeness after my hair had darkened.

... The year they introduced Malibu Barbie & I suddenly wanted a "deep, dark SAVAGE" tan. The neighboring teen girls never used suntan lotion, though. They'd just slather themselves with baby oil.

... My mother's teasing comb, with the metal spikes on the end, and the fascinating crystalline blue container of Dippity-Do that she used on her hair. And her hair dryer, which came in a rather substantially sized domed box with a handle on the top & fit over her head like a helmet. When blow-dryers came out & everyone blew out their hair, this was a very exciting modern development.

... My sudden passion for spicy, sexy "adult" perfumes like Halston, Cinnabar, Maroc and Opium, which were nothing like the florals that my mother & grandmother had preferred.

... The permutations that jeans went through. When I was younger, the bells were so wide, I remember having to wrap them around my legs before stuffing my feet into the boots so necessary in snowy Upstate NY. By the end of the decade, they grew skinny & tight, and everyone wore Gloria Vanderbilt jeans or Calvin Kleins. One pair was so tight on my legs that there were zippers running from the ankle up the calf. Oh the sorrow caused to me by these jeans, because I could only fit in the largest size available & they were impossible to find. I think I wore my one pair of Calvin Kleins every day for weeks on end.

... The "mean girls" in my high school (before anyone recognized that concept or schoolgirl bullying) decreed that everyone had to wear a mandarin collar for their class picture. And the poorer kids in my school were angry because suddenly they had to go out & buy mandarin collar blouses.

... The evolution of earrings over the decade. From chandelier earrings & big hoops & ethnic-looking stuff to the tiniest gold studs & buttons imaginable. I mean, these were teeny tiny earrings. (I still have a box full of them & probably ought to be cashing them in for $$$ through those gold-buying franchises.) Gold "snake" chains when they first came in, and how everyone wanted that liquidy-looking kind of chain, rather than one with a series of oval links.

.... P.O.W. bracelets. You got a bracelet with a Vietnam prisoner of war's name on it & you were supposed to wear it forever, until he was freed.

... Platform shoes with "doughnut" heels -- that is, the wooden "hooves" had holes in them.

... Dressing like a peasant or a woman from an imaginary 1800s-early 1900s. Peasant blouses, "prairie" skirts. This was when Gunne Saxe dresses became the rage, and later Laura Ashley.

Someone else mentioned Long and Silky, and yes, I also wish they still made it. The short-hair equivalent was Short and Sassy.

Nobody's mentioned Billy beer. My grandmother still has a six-pack of that, somewhere.

Does anyone remember Hash jeans? It might have been a local trend in Idaho, LOL! They were extremely wide legged jeans with the star on the back pockets.

I wasn't allowed to wear much makeup either since I was in my early teens, but I loved the lipsmacker lipglosses. They were so thick, but tasted great.

I remember opening the seam of my jeans from the knee down and sewing triangles of cotton fabric in to make the bell really wide. Did they do that anywhere other than Idaho?

Oh, wow....click clacks, Loves Baby Soft and Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill, LOL! Yes, I remember these!

Maybelline cake mascara...was in a little compact, you wet it and applied it with a brush. Better and less clumpy than the tube mascara. Remember Maybelline mascara in the skinny white tube and red tube, before the fat pink one they have now? Bright navy blue mascara with frosty white or frosty tan lipstick? (early 70's thing)

And yes, we did redesign our bell bottoms with fabric inserts, and I lived in the Northeast back then.

But within a year or two we were wearing straightlegs. Lee Riders, Levis and regulation Khakis from the Army Navy store.

Also "boys" sneakers on girls - Converse All Stars were all of 20 bucks and they were considered the "elite" sneaker back then. The cheap imitations were 3.99 in Woolworths. (Remember Woolworths?) Who could have imagined paying over 200 dollars for a pair of sneakers, ever?

I remember the commercial "Converse All Stars...limousines for the feet" :D

Oh, and AM radio! But that's not beauty related....

Oh, and AM radio! But that's not beauty related....

Just wanted to note, the Billy beer is beauty-related, sort of. My aunt used to use it in her hair.

I remember gauchos. (Gauchos, for you young chicks, are what we used to call capris, except they were flare-legged.) I thought yecch then, and I think yecch now.

Levi's 501 button fly jeans, they were all the rage in Alaska.
Afros and dashekis (I don't know if this spelled right)
reel to reel recorder and tapes
"Everybody was kung fu fighting"
Now and Later candy was .05 for 10 big ones
Candy Store Lady - for those of you that never heard of such a thing...she lived in the neighborhood close to the elementary school and sold candy out of her house along with pickles, popsicles, freeze pops and breakfast sandwiches.
Pickle with peppermint candy stuck down in the middle of it. Yum!!! This was the granddaddy of them all!!

My husband just brought up Nash Ramblers, and I remember doing aerobics to "Beep Beep."

And dialing a rotary phone with a pencil, so you won't chip a nail?
