South Beach Diet - Friday's Flutterings

View Full Version : Friday's Flutterings

01-25-2008, 06:33 AM
Good Morning Chicks! I haven't been on the beach :o in a while but am jumping back :broc:! My dad had a wee health scare and has asked that I start taking better care of myself. DH has been inspired as well and has agreed to join me on the beach this time. I am in the midst of meal planning and grocery lists and can't wait to join February's exercise challenge.

:dust: to all and have a great Friday!

01-25-2008, 07:16 AM
Hey Jenny!!! Glad you're back!!! Is your dad OK now? We're moving to Germany in a couple months and just today we were looking at satellite maps of Europe on-line, planning trips, and we were all over Scotland. Tom's family (three generations back) came from Skye and he'd really like to go there to poke around a bit. How's Glasgow? Fun for a family with young kids?

Good morning to all you chicks just waking up! I have a happy and somewhat TMI NSV to report!!! I started my period tonight (totally didn't expect it as my charts showed a wacky temperature pattern so I wasn't sure when I exactly ovulated) but last week, when I normally would be battling the cravings monsters, I had no issues with chocolate or other naughties! I think it was upping my protein that helped. But yay! And now I understand why I've been grumpy all day...

I'll check back in soon!

01-25-2008, 07:19 AM
It's good to see you back with us, Jenny! :)

Happy Friday everyone! I'm pleased to report that Ruthie is doing fine, I'm sure all our prayers and good wishes helped pull her through. :)

Today Audrey is home sick, she came home from school feeling tired and cranky yesterday, and sure enough, developed a fever overnight. Something's been going around her class so we shouldn't be surprised. So it will be a pretty low-key day for us.
I peeked at the scale this morning since it's been just over a week for me on Phase 2, and I've lost a pound. It feels like a lot more, with my clothes being so loose, but I'll take whatever I can get!

01-25-2008, 07:29 AM
Jenny, happy you are back. My (late) father also requested that I lose weight and take better care of myself. Wish he would have lived to see it.

Kara, I didn't realize you were off to Germany! Your kids will be exposed to so many cultures...that's great!

Cottage: thanks for the news of our Ruthie! and congrats for that lb!!!

Me: today is work, then school, then we are heading out to New Orleans to a seafood place on the lake, then downtown for a stroll on Magazine Street and a visit to a food porn unreal pastry shop ( I'll just have coffee, thankyou! Tomorrow it is off to the coast to visit a cousin. I have more porn in the oven right now to bring (coconut cake). The porn is all around with company here!

I had to get some clothes yesterday and found a sale...ended up with the size 8 courdoroy (sic?) pants that were in my "goal" plan and also a pair of jeans...jeans were a 10, but I'll take it.

01-25-2008, 07:34 AM
Kara, congratulations on your NSV! I still get green with envy when I think of you going to Germany. You're going to LOVE it!!!!!

Cat, where in the world do you get all your will-power? You have an iron-will resolve! It sounds like you are having a really fun visit with your relatives.

01-25-2008, 07:43 AM
Cat, I saw that pastry shop on the Food Network once. I must admit that I clicked on your link but didn't even maximize the window. One peek at their home page was enough! I will be sending lots of :dust: your way!!!

Linda, *I* am jealous of me! Do you know anything about purchasing a home over there? We're trying to find out any info we can. Hope Audrey gets over her yuckies quickly!

Ruth, in case you're checking in, we miss you! Hope you continue to feel better as the days go on!

01-25-2008, 08:04 AM
Kara, we were last in Germany in the 80s, but I do remember back then that homes were expensive. Things may be different now, but I don't know. I loved the style of homes in the Bavarian region, where we were stationed!

01-25-2008, 08:04 AM
I just put in this long post and now it is gone due to some error.

Cottage thank you for the update on Ruth. I hope Audrey is feeling better soon. :carrot: yay! for your scale victory

Kara congrats on your NSV

Morning Jenny glad you got dh to join you. Is your dad better now?

Cat your plans with your family sound great - enjoy!

Me - I woke up without the pain in my face that I went to bed with so thats a great start to the day. Tonight is family night and resturant of choice is Sakura (japanese steak house) Delish!!!!

:coffee: take a sip of the coffee or tea I have prepared for you late comers and ler us know about your day

01-25-2008, 08:30 AM
Good morning Chicks :coffee:

Jenny - Welcome back! It's nice to meet you. My bestest bud is from Scotland so I've heard a lot about it, including "you really should come home with me sometime"!

Kara - Nice NSV! Might be helpful in the future too.

Cottage - thanks for the news about Ruth :) Congratulations on your success.

Cat - You have amazing willpower. I have discovered that smelling yummy baked things is satisfying in its own weird way though :) Shopping for women's clothes is an adventure. I never know how things will run brand to brand. Congratulations on the 8s!

Gonna - Other than the pain in the face how are you feeling? Sounds like it's a little better all the time, though not as soon as I'm sure you'd like it to be. Hope you keep moving in the right direction :)

Me - What a crazy week! I have several "before I can go on vacation" things to finish up. I really don't want any work left for the weekend or Monday. Those are my days to get things set in my life (like the pre-flight massage on Monday!). Typical of busy weeks my back is getting in the way of my exercising a little but I'm still doing something every day. I also have an annoying head cold, could be all those little people I've been around this week! They are very generous ;)

I won't be back until much later. It's the big party for my boss. Still have to figure out our little speech.

Have a good day all!

01-25-2008, 08:39 AM
Good Morning Ladies :coffee2:

 Jenny

Kara :carrot: What a great NSV

Cottage :getwell: for Audrey and :broc: to you for the pound gone. Thank you for the update on Ruth. If you talk to her again please tell her we miss her.

Femme Jeans always seem to run weird in the sizing. I always have to buy a size larger than all my regular pants. Some kind of denim conspiracy ;)

Gonna I'm glad the pain is gone but do let us know when you find out what the dr. has to say  I'll be thinking of you.

Me Yesterday I got SOOO much done at work. That should make today go quickly. I thought the ankle was all better but I woke up this morning and it hurt again  Seems it should hurt when I'm on it and not when I've been sleeping for 8 hours.

01-25-2008, 08:40 AM
:coffee: Cyndi - simulposting. Have a great day

01-25-2008, 09:42 AM
Hi Jenny, great to see you back!
cottage, thanks for the Ruth update. Poor Audrey, hope she is feeling better soon. DS is still not back to normal. I found out that 1/3 of the middle school came down with this bug last week, the same day. They thought it must be food poisoning because it came on so quickly, and called in the health dept., but it's just a stomach flu.
Kara and Cat, congrats on the NSVs!
Dawn, you are so sweet to keep me in coffee. I'm glad you're feeling better this morning.
Cyndi, good luck with your presentation.
Thinby, wish I could say the same about work. Maybe today...

DS will be home again today. I was supposed to take a friend out to lunch today for her birthday, but I'll have to cancel that. I'll just try and get a lot of work done and get the house in shape. And I've got to put together the GS cookie order and call the girls that haven't turned it in yet. At least it's Friday!

01-25-2008, 09:55 AM
Cyndi I do feel I am headed in the right direction. Hope you get rid of that head cold.

Thanks Dawn. I'll let you know just as soon as I hear something. Be sure to rest that ankle as much as possible.

Schmoodle I sure hope ds gets to feeling better soon. YES it is Friday :carrot:

01-25-2008, 10:04 AM
Good morning everyone, nothing much going on with me. Same ol' same ol'. Kind of glad it's friday. i'm supposed to go grocery shopping today but it's alittle rainy and cold out. Don't feel like doing it. Still pretty depressed so I don't feel like doing much at all. I've had bad dreams all night that I'm sure are related to my problem from yesterday with DH. Don't wanna step on the scale, I'm afraid I've gained some weight. I should try to use all my anger into my workout video but my depression overtakes it and I just don't want to do it. My house never seems to stay clean once the kids come home, then when my husband comes home, that's even worse sometimes. Sometimes he's just as bad as the kids. Well, everyone stay warm and have a wonderful day.

01-25-2008, 10:13 AM
TK I know what you mean abouth dh can be worse than the kids I have no kids at home but with my dh there it looks like we have 10 living with us - my dh is a messy man it lays where he leaves it til I pick it up. Sorry you had such bad dreams I hope you have a great Friday!

01-25-2008, 10:14 AM
Good morning everyone! I've been reading a lot of the posts on this forum lately and they're really inspiring! This is my new spot to hang out at!

01-25-2008, 10:19 AM
Schmoodle Poor DS :getwell:. Hope he is feeling much better today.

tkglenn  Hang in there. I know how hard it is to think of anything else when your hurt and upset. The thing I kept telling myself was I was not going to allow him to make me so upset while he walks around oblivious.

Gonna I'm going to be checking in all day just to make sure you're O.K.

OK off to work for me. I'll try to post when I get back here today. Have a great day everyone.

01-25-2008, 10:19 AM
Gonna-I've learned to leave his stuff there. He's one who doesn't like messes, I don't either but he's a grown man and I've got 4 kids to take care of so he can clean up his own messes. He also tries to teach the kids to pick up after themselves but how can he do that if he doesn't do it himself. So I leave it there and if he doesn't like it, he can pick it up himself. Lots of times there will be clothes on the floor for days. I won't pick it up anymore, I get too tired taking care of 5 children, 4 is enough.

01-25-2008, 10:20 AM
:welcome2: Lori. Can't wait to get to know you better. Hang out and post often :)

01-25-2008, 10:20 AM
Thin-yeah, I try to think of all kinds of stuff to get me motivated and moving, but nothing works.

01-25-2008, 10:40 AM
tkglenn, you sound very down. This is for you:
Hope you can shake off the funk. My DH is pretty neat, but he does leave piles of stuff out that drive me crazy. I can't complain too much though because I'm one of the messiest in the house, but then I'm the one that does most of the cleaning so nobody has to clean up after me except me!

:welcome: to Lori! Glad to have you on the beach.

01-25-2008, 10:45 AM
schmoodle---thanks for the brought tears to my eyes. its funny how how even something virtual can touch your heart.

01-25-2008, 10:49 AM
Glad I could help in a virtual way anyway. Being a mom is a thankless and lonely job sometimes. We've all felt the way you do right now, I'm sure. I finally came to the realization that a spotless house is not worth a whole lot in my life. Now I just try to keep it clean enough to be comfortable, healthy, and not humiliating if unexpected company comes by. That's the best I can do right now and it's just got to be good enough!

little chick
01-25-2008, 11:10 AM
morning chicks again I have tried to get here to post a few times. The girls are home as exams are over, they don't go back til wed. So my computer time is limited. But they are playing on the wii right now so I figured I would take 5 mins to get in here before lunch starts. It is sooooo cold here today. The kids are cranky and screaming. My two year old does not want to share. Fun stuff.
Eating is good. Dance class last night was a blast and we worked out hard. We have been working on our jazz dance. I can't remember the name of it but it is a jazzy song about a woman.
Well I have just about used up my five mins so I have to dash and get lunch ready and get then I can enjoy quiet time. I will try to pop back in.

01-25-2008, 11:12 AM
G'morning everyone!

Schmoodle I hope your son is feeling better. Stomach bugs are the most annoying sickness. Especially for the moms who spend the middle of the night changing sheets and trying to keep sick kids from puking on the rug.:(

tkglenn Don't worry too much about the scale. I make it a point not to step on mine constantly when watching my diet. It's so frustrating to worry about fractions of a pound.

I'm the messy one with a neat-freak husband, so I'm sure he does his share of complaining about me. It's always one person or the other in a marriage.;)

Now, I'm sure I heard a mention of coffee. Can somebody get me a cup? A biiiiiiig cup.

01-25-2008, 11:25 AM
Hope your Friday improves. I'll send some prayers your way today.

01-25-2008, 11:28 AM
Thanks everyone for your support and hugs.

01-25-2008, 11:31 AM
Good FRIDAY morning ladies!!

I just finished my first day of Phase 1 and it didn't even feel like I was on a diet!? The weekend will be the real challenge!

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this great message board!:woohoo:

01-25-2008, 11:35 AM
:broc: T.G.I.F.!! :carrot:

Jenny: It's nice to see you back! I'm so glad that DH has decided to join you on SB. Ever since my DH started eating healthier it's been easier for me to. Good luck both of you!! :D

Kara:  Yay for you and your lack of pre-Aunt Flow cravings! Have a great day!

Cottage: Thank you for the update on Dear Ruth. I hope that little Audrey gets better quickly. I know your heart breaks when either of the girls is sick! Tell her to :getwell:!

Cat: I agree with everyone here! You have some willpower to go into a place like that and not eat anything!! :woohoo: I know you family, especially your dear father, is proud of you. I'm sure he's smiling down on you.

Gonna: I'm so sorry that your face is still bothering you. You'd better enjoy your dinner tonight -- you deserve it!! Thanks for the coffee, ;) I really needed it this morning!

Cyndi: I hope that you stay healthy, especially with your vacation looming in the future! :dizzy: You sound like you're going pretty crazy!

Dawn: I'm glad you got so much done yesterday!! :comp: Enjoy your easy day today!

Schmoodle: Tell DS to :getwell:. I hope that he's able to get a lot of rest today. That may help you get all of the GS orders together! TGIF, indeed! You and DD better stay healthy!

tkglenn: All I can offer is a  and let you know that I'm thinking about you. Hope things pick up for you soon.:)

:welcome3:, liamylime! I'm looking forward to getting to know you better!

Me: DH and I decided that with the rain and cold yesterday I would head to the store and get the fixin's for the Fireside Sausage soup. It was so yummy! I don't think I'll ever get tired of that stuff! Then, we watched the Spurs (barely) win against one of the lowest ranked teams in the league and caught a bit of the Dallas Stars game. I decided that I needed a take-it-easy night.

Tonight we're having the meatball casserole for dinner. We'll also be doing a super-speedy housecleaning so that the weekend is free for homework and such. We may try to catch a movie, but with my homework and DH having three leather-orders that need to go out Sunday, I'm not sure that's going to work.

Well, I'd better get to work. Have a great day!!

01-25-2008, 11:36 AM
, LC, Neko, waquilter and shesaninja! Lot's of simul-posting going on today. Have a great Friday!

01-25-2008, 11:48 AM
Hi all, Just want to say thanks for all support, advice, laughs, etc. I couldnt of done it without you chicks!

I read that People Mag article about girls losing their weight and how great some of the websites are for support, yeah, they mentioned 3fatchicks. I know I gotta take it day by day, and will be arollercoaster but am ready for ride.

Did 30 min on treadmill, you shouldve seen the dust on that thing. Husband then did 30. I also peeked at scale- down a total of 9 lbs, husband 10 lbs.

01-25-2008, 11:48 AM
Yeaah! It is FRIDAY! :cp: I am off to classes and I am so lucky because today I get out out 12. I have been reading the daily posts everyday for the past two weeks, and it is so great to wake up and have something real to look forward to besides the news. :dizzy:

These first two weeks of school have been so hard on me. I am trying to buckle down and find my motivation. Motivation is usually not an issue. I have always loved to learn, and loved challenges. But for some reason I find it difficult to focus. I also found out the on my second day of classes that one the the courses I planned on taking next semester won't be offered until next year! Which puts me a semester behind, and is causing me to have to redo my plans for graduation and possibly graduate school. I wouldn't have been upset, but it the courses offered schedule reflects that the courses I need are taught ever semester. And apparently they have made several changes of this nature and have not communicated it to the students. This must by typical though. And I should not let it bother me. So, I am trying to redirect my frustration into working out. Working out is something that I can control. :D Course schedules being changed - I can't do anything about.

Okay, enough complaining from me for today. Complaining should be banned on Fridays!

Running out the door...:book2:

01-25-2008, 11:53 AM
, LC, Neko, waquilter and shesaninja! Lot's of simul-posting going on today. Have a great Friday!

Woohoo, it's Friday. No work tomorrow. :carrot:

Thanks for everyone who gave me info on the food at Medieval Times earlier this week. Now I'm prepared to just pick at the food tomorrow. I've heard it isn't very good anyways. My friend's a horse trainer, so she wants to go and watch the horsies.

01-25-2008, 11:59 AM
Welcome Lori glad you joined us.

Thanks Dawn I swear everytime my cell phone rings I'm thinkin it's the test results. I so don't want to have to wait til after the weekend. Other than the wait & worry I feel great. Hope you have a great day at work.

TNtech if only the no complaining fridays works everywhere and not just on this site. Hope you get your schooling worked out.

01-25-2008, 12:37 PM
I just can't reply to all the posts but I wanted to send a virtual hug to tk. Sounds like you are having a rough time.

It was nice being home last night without anything to do. I made Taco Bake for dinner and had time to clean the kitchen and part of one bathroom and catch up on some reading. Tonight is also free. I have to stop by the police station after work to pick up the copy of the police report and the photos of my injuries that my lawyer wants, then I need a haircut and then I'll pick up Brian. He hates to shop but he needs more sweatshirts and jeans so we're just going to have to go buy some.

Tonight I'm reheating leftover Peking Pasta so I don't have to cook.

01-25-2008, 12:46 PM
I can't tell you how glad I am that it's FRIDAY!!!! I haven't done much this week only worked 2 days...but just knowing it's Friday and the weekend makes me HAPPY! I'm sooooooo tired of being COLD! bbbrrrrrrr I'm freezing, I me COME ON! I live in the south, it's not supposed to be this's almost 11am and it's still only 25 degrees! It was supposed to warm up to 42 but I don't think it's gonna make it!

I've been sticking to p1 pretty religiously the past 11 days...but last night I made some brown rice to go along with my dinner...just for the family to have...and I just had to have a tiny bit of it...I figured if I was going to "cheat" what better to cheat with...I had less than 2 TBSP of brown rice.
It was very satisfying! amazing .. who'd have thought...brown rice...LOL
Well I hope you all have a fantabulous day.... and STAY WARM!!!

01-25-2008, 12:48 PM
Thanks GONNABE165!

I even started a blog this morning so I have somewhere to spill my guts through this 'adventure'!:D

01-25-2008, 02:50 PM
Barb I bet you enjoyed your free time even if it did involve cleaning Good luck with your shopping

shesaninja good luck with your blog

I had long talk with my dh about my horrible headaches I have been having for the past 2 weeks and I have decided I am going to cut my hair short. I have had my hair short once in my life & it was not by choice. I have always had long hair most years down to my butt til I started donating it to locks of love so I am hoping with cutting it (and donating it) I will releive some of the headaches. Any of you gals have a suggestion on a cute cut?

01-25-2008, 04:29 PM
Gonna - Yikes! I'm sorry to hear about your headaches.:(

I really like the haircut I have now and it's a modified version of the angled bob. It's a little more layered so I can have fun with it and i have some wispy bangs in the front. I REALLY love it.
I've seen alot of people with the angled bob lately and I personally think it looks great on everyone.

01-25-2008, 05:43 PM
Gonna: I like to use this "hairstyle trier-outer" here. (

It's actually a lot of fun - we do this at work a lot. We've all got our pictures uploaded and try out new hairstyles.

01-25-2008, 09:14 PM
Hey everyone! Just had to come back and brag because I am feeling very proud of myself. At about 4pm a major sinus headache hit. As the end of the work day got closer I was thinking to myself, and even emailed DH to tell him, that I would only walk 1 mile after work. Well, not only did I walk that mile, with 2 lb weights, but I also walked another 3 miles without the weights after that! I still have some sinus pressure, but nothing like what I had before. I'm feeling great!

Just wanted to share. :o

01-25-2008, 10:51 PM
I just make the taco bake for the first time. It was GREAT! I am so pleased with it, and my husband even enjoyed it. Thank you for a great recipe and all the support.
