South Beach Diet - Monday's ch, ch, ch, chat!
01-21-2008, 07:47 AM
Wakey! Wakey! I know Kara is out there so we are banging on the chicken coop door to wake the rest of you.
This morning my house is very cold so I'm sitting with a poncho on over my robe until the furnace warms us up. The woodstove usually heats the back room and kitchen but didn't do its job very well last night.
This morning I take my darling Hershey to the Pypers' farm for a few weeks - only two, I hope. I'm really going to miss having her around but there's no way I'll be able to manage her while I convalesce from my operation. Three more sleeps until I get my new knee!
My new puppy arrived yesterday afternoon and is doing well. He was the only pup (first litter for Momma) and is doing well although he will be thoroughly spoiled with no competition at the milk bar. Since he's a Russian breed, I'm thinking of appropriate names - all suggestions welcome. It'll be two months before I get him so there's loads of time. "Igor" is not an option as these dogs always look like puppies. I'll attach a pic of a dog who looks just like his father. He's a rare breed - Tsvetnaya Bolonka.
Gotta grab some breakfast and get ready to hit the road. I hope to be back here by noon unless I get distracted driving past the Big City!
Have a wonderful day.
01-21-2008, 07:56 AM
Great morning to ya Ruth The dog is just adorable & to cute for a name like Igor. Those two weeks you are away from Hershey will go fast and then all will be back like it's suppose to be. Get warm and have a great day!
As for me I am going into te office today even though we are closed. I'm feeling pretty good this morning :carrot: so I want to see how I do as I don't want to have to go back to doc tomorrow for more test.
Good morning to all the other chickies. I guess most will sleep in if they are closed for the holiday as well.
Check in with you gals in a bit
01-21-2008, 07:56 AM
Oh, Ruth, the pup is adorable! My suggestion is Sasha, the Russian nickname for Alexander. He looks like a Sasha to me!
Hi, Gonna! It sounds like you're feeling a bit better!!! Have fun at the office!
Busy, busy day here. Our friends from the States are in town and we're having a blast with them! It is always fun to see old friends, especially when you can just jump back into conversations as if it hadn't been three years and half a world since you saw them!
I've started on the Extreme Fat Smash diet this week, basically because it's just about the same as Phase 2 and has three weeks worth of meals already planned out for you. I've gotten tired of logging all of my calories and I struggle with portion size issues, so I have to keep on top of that, so this is my lazy way to stay in control. I did give up my daily weigh ins because they were making me bonkers. I'm going to weigh on the first of each month (for the board) and then the seventh day of each cycle (for my personal record) and use those weights to track how I'm doing. I thought I'd be freaking out about not knowing exactly where I am, and using that blissful ignorance to indulge in things I shouldn't, but I feel much more upbeat and dedicated to staying on plan, so this is a good thing. Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to decrease the frequency of scale use!!!
01-21-2008, 07:56 AM
And Artic cold snap is going through here, it's 11* this morning! I put on my warmest clothes and am sipping a steaming hot cup of coffee, mmmmmm!
The kids have off school, so I'll probably head on over to Cindy's around 10. She's supposed to go fox hunting today, but I wonder if it will be called off because of the weather? No way I'd want to be riding around horseback in this weather! Amber may come with me, I want to see if Cindy has made any other plans first, though.
Who gets the holiday off today?
01-21-2008, 08:00 AM
Seriously? Fox hunting? That sounds so very upper class! Have fun with the girls today!
01-21-2008, 08:03 AM
Good morning Ruth, GONNA, and Kara!
Ruth, I'd been waiting for you to start this thread, doesn't it figure we'd both post at the same time again? LOL! I gave you some suggestions for the new wee puppy already, but I do really like Kara's suggestion of naming him Sasha! The name suits him perfectly!
01-21-2008, 08:06 AM
Kara, Cindy is very, very into any activity that involves horses. She has 16 of them on the farm. She plays polo in the summer, and is in a very pretigious fox hunting club in the winter months. She's obsessed with her horses, LOL!
01-21-2008, 08:08 AM
It makes me happy that she is able to enjoy her passion! Connor is constantly talking about getting a horse, which we will never do. He'll probably have one as an adult, though!
01-21-2008, 08:53 AM
Good Morning All
Ruth I know it's not a Russian name but I think he looks like a Bailey. Hope your day goes well and you stay warm.
Gonna I'm glad you're feeling better. Take it easy though you don't want to do too much too fast
Kara I'm glad you're having a nicce time with your friends. Sounds great.
Cottage Stay warm and have a great day.
Me Well, I have to go to work today to get payroll done. I'm thinking about taking a couple extra days off soon though and maybe heaing to Vegas. I need a break from work and home right about now. Have a great day everyone.
01-21-2008, 09:59 AM
We are also in the deep freeze and supposed to get snow tonight.
Ruth The puppy is adorable, I am no help when it comes to naming we had such a hard time naming our own.
Gonna take is easy today, glad you are feeling better and would hate for you to back slide.
Kara Glad to hear you are having a great time with your friends. Good luck on the new "plan".
Cottage I agree, it is way to cold to be out on horses regardless of how much you love them! BRRRR!
Dawn I wanna go to Vegas!
I am putting on another pot of coffee, I think we all need it. Schmoodle there is a special cup just for you since I know you are going to be missing DH bringing you one!
Yes I am working today, hoping with it being a holiday it will be a calm one! Beyond that not much going on in my world. Stay warm girls!
01-21-2008, 10:04 AM
Ruth - I like the name Sasha but there are so many good Russian names. Good luck with the new knee! Have you stocked up your freezer with premade meals to help you during your convalescence? I know you have lots of friends locally but I just hope you are able to rest and recover without trying to do too much.
gonna - I've got to work today but I'm working from home so I do have to admit I slept in until 6:30. I wish I could have slept longer.
kara - Have fun with your friends. I love catching up with old friends.
cottage - I HATE the cold and know I wouldn't be out there.
thin - I love Vegas but haven't been there since I had Brian. It is a fun place.
Me - Brian is home since there is no school. I'm trying to make sure I get everything ready for the hearing tomorrow.
01-21-2008, 10:09 AM
The fox hunt has been cancelled so there's no big hurry for me to leave today. Amber was invited to spend the day with one of her classmates, so she won't be coming with me. I think we'll just spend a nice cozy day beside a roaring fire in the familyroom, getting started on making Valentines. They'll probably want to have a baking session today, too. Hmmm, maybe banana bread?
01-21-2008, 10:10 AM
Just a quick check in to see whats going on.
Kara enjoy your time with your friends and good luck with Fat smashing and beating the scale.
Mornin Cottage enjoy your day!
Dawn thanks for the advice. Vegas! can I go?
stay warm Stephanie Enjoy your quiet day
Hiya Barb have a great day
01-21-2008, 10:12 AM
Good morning everyone. It's a bit nippy outside. I want to drink something warm but I don't drink coffee and I don't have hot chiocolate and even if I did, I can't drink it because of the diet plan i'm on. Tea also. I decided to take a break this weekend from dieting and starting on a new one. I'm gonna start the one I was on when I lived in California. I loved it. I didn't go too much off plan but just ate more than I should have. My husband had his PTSD moments everyday single day this weekend. I think they've lasted all day long Saturday and Sunday. I talked to him about it Sat and Sun and he doesn't realize that he does it. I don't know if he's geting worse or if I'm just getting tired of it. I used to be able to just let it roll off my shoulders but now sometimes I can't. It gets to me. Arg. Well, no puppies yet from our female dog. We're thinking probably end of Jan/early feb. My boys have the day off from school so I have all 4 children while my husband goes to work. A day off----what's that?! Well, I think I've chatted your ears off. Hope everyone stays warm today.
Thin-where in Cali do you live?
01-21-2008, 10:24 AM
Good morning ladies! :coffee2:
Ruth, those 2 weeks will fly by and you'll have a happy reunion with Hershey.: hug:That puppy is adorable!!
Gonnabe I hope you have a wonderful day today!:)
Tomandkara good luck on the extreme fat smash diet! You'll do great!:goodluck:
Cottage enjoy your day by the fire. That sounds cozy!
Thinbyjune have a good day at work today...Vegas sounds nice...I"d like a few days of as well!:)
Pacergirl have a good day at work today as well. Stay warm!!:)
As for me....well Yesterday I was off and so I sat here for 4 hours going through all of the wedding pictures online and narrowing it down from 595 to 275 just so I can get my proofs....Once I get thouse i have to narrow it down to 75 just for the album. It was a pain....but it was nice to look at them. It was cold here last night. I think it got down to 10 degrees. It's supposed to warm up to a toasty 35 degrees today lol. I'm one of the unfortunate ones who has to work tonight. I wanna make those peanut butter cookies everyone is writing about!! I'm craving a cookie. I"ll have to do that tonight when I get home!:T I hope everyone has a great day today!!:grouphug:
01-21-2008, 10:26 AM
O.K. It sounds like we're all going to Vegas. Sounds great to me.
Pacer :coffee: Hope your day is a quiet one.
Barb Good luck getting your stuff together for tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you.
Gonna Of course you can go to Vegas. Wouldn't be the same without you ;)
Tkglenn I live in the high desert. About 2 hours from the beaches of O.C. an 2 1/2 hours from Vegas. The best of both worlds ;)
Have a great day. I'm really going to work ths time.
01-21-2008, 10:31 AM
thin-we used to live in 29 palms then moved to seal beach (long beach area). we loved it.
01-21-2008, 10:34 AM
This is the first time that I have replied to a tread. I suppose it is mostly because I have been sitting back and taking in all that great advice. Truthfully, I am not exactly sure how to get around in this forum.....I don't know if I need to start a blog or a journal to get all of the cute tickers and signature to work.
My suggestion for name for your adorable puppy is GORBY. It is always amazing to me how strong a bond we can form with our pets! I have 2 Birman cats and they are like 2 more children to me. I am sure that Hersey will miss you, but maybe some time at a farm will be like a mini vacation for her. You need to have all of your focus on you and recovering. I hope your surgery goes smoothly.
Well, Happy Monday to all the Chicks!!
01-21-2008, 10:50 AM
:welcome3: to the Beach, Adagirl! We're glad you decided to join us in our chats. :)
You don't have to make a special journal or blog to get a weightloss ticker. Just click under "user cp" on the left at the top of this page, then click on "edit signature" and you'll see instructions on how to make a ticker just for you.
We hope to see you around here a lot!
01-21-2008, 10:53 AM
:welcome2: Adagirl! I love your screenname!
Jess, I hope you get your peanut butter cookies made! The last time I made them I had to freeze the entire batch because the time I made them before that, I totally ate all of them before the day was out. Having them in the freezer, I had the self control to only take out two a day.
Tawnya, I will be praying for your husband and your whole family. PTSD is incredibly difficult for everyone involved! Has he talked to anyone?
Linda, have fun making valentines!
Barbara, enjoy your day with Brian today and we will be thinking of you tomorrow with the hearing!
Stephanie, I hope your day is calm. Layer up so you don't shiver too much!
Dawn, hope the payroll goes quickly! I'm sure all of your employees will thank you for getting it done!!! Have fun making vacation plans!
01-21-2008, 11:32 AM
Yikes! The chit-chat is flying in here today! I'm at work as our county does not take MLK Jr. day off. We take Texas Independence Day off instead. Not something I agree with, but I don't make those decisions.
Ruth: Boy, I can't imagine how hard it's going to be for you without Hershey. I get so lonely when my boys aren't with me for a long weekend! I'm sure you'll heal quickly and that everything will go okay. Then Hershey will be right by your side again. Your new pup is adorable. No suggestions on a name, though. Russian names are not one of my fortes!
Gonna: I'm glad you're back at work! I hope you continue to feel better and NO MORE TESTS!! :broc:
Kara: I see a scale brigade forming! It seems we're all dumping our scales this year!! I wonder how that's going to turn out. Have a great time with your friends. How long are they going to be there?
Cottage: I'm glad the fox hunting was canceled. Of course I'm guessing that as much as Cindy loves her fox hunting that she would have gone out in the cold regardless! :brr: Have fun making valentines and banana bread!!
Dawn: Oooh, a trip to Vegas sounds fun! Can I tag along? Hope you get that payroll done quickly - I HATE doing payroll.
Stephanie: Thanks for the coffee. I spilled mine on the pavement getting out of the car. Sheesh. What a Monday! Hope you have a great day!
Barb: We'll be sending good thoughts your way today and tomorrow. This can't be easy for you. Enjoy Brian's day off!
tkglenn: Sorry to hear about DH. What a terrible affliction for your family to deal with. I can certainly understand how it would get tiresome for you. I don't know how you do it. I can't live without my coffee in the morning and my hot tea at night. What about just heating up some water and squeezing some lemon into it?
HistoryChick: Ugh, the dreaded wedding photo reduction! Ours took months! I still haven't settled on the album. The parents' albums were no problem, but I'm being so picky about ours!! (BTW, we've been married since 2004!) Good luck with yours! Hope you stay warm and have a good night at work!
Adagirl: I agree with Kara, what a great name! Welcome to the Beach and 3FC! I had a hard time with the forum at first, but I did a lot of browsing around and finally got it! Let us know if you have any questions and have a great day!
Me: Well, not much today. Work (bleh) today and homework tonight. Work is already boring as everyone thinks we're closed, so there's nothing to do. Homework tonight will be, well, BS. We haven't had class yet and the professor has an assignment listed on his online blackboard, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'm hoping it will only take an hour or two, but we'll see.
DH is off today, so he's promised to go grocery shopping for me. Awww, what a nice guy. I guess I'd best be off to plan the meals and email him a grocery list. Can you tell I'm a little behind this week? Have a great day everyone!!
g'morning everyone. It's still a brisk 17 degrees in New Jersey.
Sadly, my job is open today. Trucking companies close for very few holidays. My son's off from school, but my husband isn't working at the moment. He broke his finger at work a week ago and since he's a mechanic, you can't work with a badly broken finger.
And now a fascinating fact from Laughing Cow Light cheese bites - "People who walk on hard dirt instead of pavement will burn 7 percent more calories" It's funny to open you little cheese cubes and get trivia.
01-21-2008, 01:04 PM
Kara-yeah, he sees a counselor but for the past 2 weeks he hasn't been able to because he's started a new job and is in training. He's been out of a job for 3 months partially because of his PTSD and partially because of the holidays and no one was hiring. Boy was christmas hard for us. When he does see the counselor, he does better but I think because hasn't been able to see the counselor, it has gotten worse. I feel more for the kids than myself. The kids don't know and don't understand it. I tried explaining to my 8 year old and I think he understands alittle but not completely.
Kim-I will try that suggestion about warming up some water with lemon. I will drink water with lemon but didn't think of warming the water up and drinking it that way. I know that lemon reduces stress and helps lose weight. Thanks for the tip. I have a self cleaning oven that takes 3 hours to clean so I have that on and it has warmed up the house nicely.

Good morning chickies!
Ruth I have to say that breed of dog is adorable...I googled them since I've never heard of it before..they are soooo cute! How about Pavel! that name makes me think of the movie Under the Tuscan Sun...the young Polish boys name was Pavel!
I had a pretty good weekend...ate pretty good...sunday wasn't perfect but good none the less... I just woke up not hungry and had slept in so I didn't eat breakfast...that usually means I over eat when I do get hungry...but I didn't! I ate a nutrious lunch and then didn't eat much for dinner...I wasn't very hungry this morning when I got up..but I made my breakfast anyway! and now it's about time for my snack. I feel like I eat all the time! At least I'm starting to feel the effects of eating healthy food!
Well, got a bunch of stuff to get started on...y'all have a good day!!
01-21-2008, 01:31 PM
Good afternoon ladies of the East and Good morning to the West side ladies.
I lost the fight with the 13 year old for the computer this morning so this is the first chance I get to get on. No work today and the kids are home so doing the housechore list. Girls have until tomorrow a.m. to get their room cleaned before the trash comes in. The 9 year old does not believe it but dad has had it with the mess sooooo.....I know it will have to only have to happen once! Going to see my parents today with the kids. Have not seen them in 2 weeks so will be good. DS has a family tree to create so he will be keeping grandpa busy most of the day. Dad likes to talk about his family!!!!
Have a question. Went to phase 2 on the 15th. Added wheat(one serving a day,ww tortilla) and carrots(came in the bagged lettuce) gained 4 pounds back when I stepped on the scale this morning. Now the question, do I go back to phase 1 or just change my add ins? I was thinking of dropping the wheat and add oatmeal instead and keep the carrots and add a fruit.
Hope everyone has a great day and a safe one. Keep warm ladies I still don't know how you all live in the cold.
01-21-2008, 09:25 PM
Hi chicks, whew, I'm tired. Stephanie, thanks for the coffee, I had to grab it and run, but it sure got me through the morning. I delivered DH to the airport this morning. He should be on the ship by now. On the way home I hit Trader Joe's, the mall to hunt new winter coats for the kids, the grocery store and some other errands. Got home just in time to unpack all the food, take DD to dance class and pick DS up from a party. I thought ahead this AM and had everything ready for a shrimp and cashew stir fry, so finally we are home, fed, and relaxing. I'm about to go make a bowl of yogurt, put on my jammies and poofy socks and watch some TV. just wish it wasn't back to work tomorrow. :( The kids are off for the next two days and it's never fun trying to work with them underfoot.
cottage sorry I hadn't gotten around to answering the question you asked the other day. A merchant mariner is a professional seaman, non-military. They are licensed by the coast guard and work on the commercial fleet. Although lots of the shipping companies are also DoD contractors, so they can end up working on DoD ships or contracts too. DH has been on cargo ships, oil tankers, emergency response ships, research vessels, military preposition ships, hospital ships, and more...
