I'm so angry about people who kill kids. What happened in Alabama is awful.

Can you imagine how the people driving on the freeway below felt when a baby fell out of the sky? 1 or 2 cars may have struck that little angel.

Mental illness makes people do some crazy things. People with normal psyches don't throw children off bridges. Unfortunately, we often don't discover mental illness until it is too late, resulting in tragedy.

I live in Honolulu and my stomach was just in knots yesterday when this news was on. I was talking with my husband on the cell phone asking about when he would be heading home for my son's b-day dinner, he said the freeway was closed. When he told me why it was just sickening news to hear. Now this morning, the Honolulu Advertiser reports that the 2-1/2 y.o. boy "Cyrus" was sometimes babysat by this guy who killed him. And just earlier in the day, Cyrus wandered away from his apartment building and was returned to his father and grandfather (who were supposed to be watching him!) by the cops! How's that for negligence? Apparently the guy who threw him off the bridge was an upstairs neighbor and friend of the boy's father, he has watched this little boy in the past, and the boy knew, liked and trusted him. This is so tragic.

For the record, the guy in Alabama was Vietnamese, not Filipino, just a clarification. Not that race makes a difference in these cases. I feel ill just thinking about all of this. May all those innocent angels rest in peace.

I saw this on television and they stated that the man had a history of untreated mental illness, apparently known to the other residents of the building, but he apparently had no history of violence, and wasn't considered dangerous. Although that still raises the question, if you knew that a man in the building was crazy, even if you didn't think he was violent, why would you let him babysit your child? Although perhaps that question was already answered, if the child wandered away from home and the dad and granddad didn't notice.

Tragic on all levels.
