OK, you guys are sleeping in toooo long! I've been up for over twelve hours already. :D
We had a terrific day! I took Connor with me to yoga this morning because he had Tang Soo Do right afterwards and he did about a quarter of the class. So cute! Then while he was in his class, I ran my three miles and did an hour on the elliptical. We had a snowball fight on the way home, which was SO fun :snowfight and then hit the commissary for some veggies, as we're having guests for dinner tomorrow night (two different vegetable quiches, green salad, and Nessa's sprussel brouts (Isn't that what she called them?) with cheese and crackers for appetizers and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert). I crashed when we got home (maybe the four hours of exercise? :chin:) and just sprawled on the bed for about a half hour before I got up and started cleaning up from the mess Tom and the girls made being at home by themselves all morning. We had leftovers for dinner tonight so my fridge is all cleaned out now.
What's on for your weekend?
01-12-2008, 08:02 AM
:cofdate: OH! Forgot the coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker so I didn't think about it. It's on now, though, so all is well.
01-12-2008, 08:22 AM
Whew! I thought busy Kara had forgotten the coffee! (You know, I really don't actually like the stuff - just the caffeine lift. Maybe I should switch to pills.)
Yesterday was a lovely quiet day. Donna canceled as it was a "snow day" and she had five kids at home, too many for her DH to manage. Of course, it didn't rain or snow as predicted - freezing rain was the forecast. Hershey and I just hung out and did odds and sods during the day. I didn't even go for the mail. :yikes:
Today will be a bit different. I am going to town yet again to see a quilt show, may pick up a few groceries if it's not too busy, drop in on Harry and then have the afternoon free. I've been spending a lot of time finishing odds and sods of sewing - very relaxing except my sewingroom is upstairs. Every time I get settled up there, someone comes to my door and I need to struggle down the stairs. Never mind! Twelve more sleeps until the operation.
Nighty night, Kara, and happy weekend to the rest of us. Enjoy your day!
01-12-2008, 08:35 AM
Evening, Kara, Morning Ruth et al,
Kara, I wish you would send some leftovers here. My cupboard/fridge is bare..well except for "mystery food" I need to clean out of the fridge. That's on my to-do list for the day. Soon as the sun is up, I'm headed out to the grocery to start stocking up for company. I'm making this wonderful tortellini soup (http://www.wwltv.com/frankdavis/gsrecipes/siciliancheesetortellinisoup.html) for company's first meal. It's a family favorite..NOT OP, but I could probably adapt it the next time. I'll just avoid the stuff I shouldn't eat.
Yesterday, I got a ton of yard work done. Got the driveway raked of pine needles and put them around the fence in the back yard, Got my rose garden all raked and new mulch put down, and planted violas and snap dragons in the front of the house since it is totally "gray" out there.. then later got the kitchen floor "waxed", (actually its eccothane) and it is gorgeous and sparkly now after 6 coats of the stuff. I also got a coat of paint at the top of the guest shower stall. I had my head wrapped and a mask on and when I got finished spraying paint, I looked like a geisha...my face was completly white. I had to use a face scrub to get it all off.
Got up early today to get some work done, now, off to the tub, then need to make a grocery list, hit the grocery store then clean the fridge..then more yard work, need to clean baseboards in guest room and polish silver. Jeez, makes me tired just thinking about it. Who needs to exercise??
01-12-2008, 09:02 AM
Good morning all!
Mmmm coffee :) My problem is I love good coffee. It has to be dark roast, organic, shade grown.... I'm picky but once I find good coffee I'm blissed.
Kara- sounds like lots of fun at the gym :) I'll have to check out that sprouts recipe. Is it brussels sprouts? I -love- brussels sprouts! Bet you will sleep well after all that time at the gym!
Ruth - Sometime I miss sewing. When my daughter was young she had lots of outfits - crazy matching skirts and tops, shorts and tops, dresses. Eventually she got too cool for that though and the sewing machine was put in storage. Can I ask about your operation? I haven't been around long enough or missed a discussion. I imagine it will be good to be on the other side of it.
Cat - I miss yard work! I'm just starting to look at seed catalogs and plan. It was warm enough here this week that I can see little bits of yard sticking out. Wish I could get out there and do something!
It's a busy domestic weekend here. Our CSA had some leftover produce available so I'm drying lots of onions, cabbage and delicata squash. Yum. I wish I had a root cellar but this will do. Also going to try freezing some spaghetti squash before it goes away. It's become one of our favorite foods!
It looks like a crazy two weeks before we go on vacation. My boss is retiring after 10 years and lots of expansion of our agency. We have two parties planned and I'm sure there will be a lot to deal with. It's a small agency and this transition will be really emotional for some. I've got to put together a retirement basket with a mix of real and silly gifts. I'm also co-presenting a plaque at the big event because I've been there second longest.
In the meantime the cats seem to think it's "act like a lunatic" time. Our apartment can be traveled like a track and when they get in this mood that's exactly what they do, chasing each other around and around. Silly critters.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
01-12-2008, 09:11 AM
Cat, that soup recipe looks good. It took me a while to figure out mirliton! Chayote, right? I guess another type of squash could be substituted.
CindyM, after three years of biotching and complaining about it, I am going for a total knee replacement on the 24th! I've waited 18 months on the list and am really pleased to now be doing the countdown! Recovery won't be fun but I will know that the pain will get better rather than worse.
Now I must tiddle up and head for the quilt show. I plan to be strong and not buy any more fabric. Wish me luck!
01-12-2008, 09:25 AM
Good Morning. :coffee2:
Kara Sounds like you've been very busy. Have a nice evening and sleep well.
Ruth Enjoy the show and :nono: buying fabric...unless you just have to have it, then it's O.K.
Femme Have a nice evening with your company
Me I'm feeling very sore today. I guess it's from all the cleaning. Last night I moved all the large appliances (washer, dryer, refrigerator, etc) and cleaned under and behind them. Then I cleaned them. I got on the scale this morning and I maintained for a second week in a row. I know that's a good thing but I just wanted to lose 1 stinkin' pound so I could get to the 170's. Apparently the scale does not appreciate my efforts. Maybe next week.
01-12-2008, 09:37 AM
Cat, that soup recipe looks good. It took me a while to figure out mirliton! Chayote, right?
Right! I just learned a few years ago that they are called chayote by the rest of the world! It's pronounced "millie-tah" here...guess that's N.O. French for " a funny looking green squash".
01-12-2008, 10:04 AM
Ooooh, have fun at the quilt show, Ruth. Do you have anything entered?
Cat, you've gotten so much done already. I'm sure the company will really appreciate your work! The flowers sound just lovely!
Cyndi, our dog likes to run laps around the yard! So funny!
Dawn, I'm sorry your scale is stuck. Mine was stuck for awhile and then moved two pounds down on Friday but this morning was back up! I know I can't have gained two pounds overnight, so I'm going to believe in the lower number. Mind over matter, right?
Time to hit the sack! I'm running before church tomorrow morning because we're having our monthly fellowship meal after service and I don't want to go exercise on a full stomach. Have a productive day!
01-12-2008, 11:43 AM
Good Saturday morning to all you fine chickies! And a good evening and thanks to Kara for starting us off!
Kara: I did a longer than usual workout last night and I was pooped. Granted, mine was only 90 minutes, but I'm building!! :D DH was nice and cleaned out the fridge for me last night. Thank goodness it's clean -- I hate that job!!
Ruth: I'm so glad your surgery is coming up soon! I would like to get into sewing eventually. It would be nice to make quilts, clothing, etc. for the family. Too bad there aren't any places out here to take lessons. Maybe I could come visit you for a session! ;)
Cat: I'm with Cyndi - I'm very envious of your being able to plant already. (Why don't we have a gardener smiley?) The seed catalog is dog-eared and marked up as we prepare for our veg, herb and flower gardens this year. We're being ambitious!! Hope your day of cleaning and preparing goes well!
Cyndi: Sounds like you have a lot going on as well! :dizzy: I think it would be fun to plan a basket like that - especially the silly gifts. I hope it all goes well!
Dawn: Man, you are a cleaning queen! :queen: I have to admit that I'd probably be extremely embarassed if someone were to peek under my washer/dryer! Hopefully the soreness wears off and that darn scale starts moving!
ME: Well, I'm now 100% ready to start classes next Thursday. I've got my books, I've got my ID and I've got my parking permit. Now I just need to be able to run to the buildings where my classes are and take a tour. I like to know exactly where each class is prior to the first class day.
Today there is some straightening up before DH's company comes over. They're bringing over a nice recliner that I need to make room for. And there's a possibility of a nice loveseat as well, so that will be good. Can't beat free furniture! The guy is a bachelor, so I'm hoping it's in a decent state, but we'll see.
Other than that, I would like to clean out my craft room. DH and I are planning his shed/workshop and I've requested enough space to store Christmas decor and housewares. We're hoping to start building by the end of March, but it really depends on everyone's schedule. (We're doing it ourselves with the help of a carpenter-friend). I really can't wait because it will mean a real guest room, more space in my room, and a future baby room! Wahoo!
Well, I need to stop fartin' around and get to work. Have a loverly Saturday, gals! I will!
01-12-2008, 11:45 AM
I am getting a late and lazy start today. I weighed in and am down about 5 lbs after 11 days of Ph1. I say about because I'm guessing how much that week of Christmas put on me. At least I get to start my ticker downward again, phew!
I've got a weekend of laundry, deep cleaning, and helping kids with science fair projects ahead of me. :( DS has horseback riding this afternoon, and we had planned to get together with friends for dinner, but I'm not sure if that will come together. DH has replaced the coil in the refrigerator this morning, and we're waiting to see if that fixes things, before I go shopping, so there's really not much around here to eat. Canned beans and tuna for us today, I guess!
Hope you chicks have more fun on the horizon!
good morning Kara, glad you remembered the coffee! I love it!
Ruth, I envy your sewing room. Once these kids are outta here, I will set one up for me, but for now, I have to drag everything out and set up in the kitchen to sew.
Try to get in a nap, Cat!
Hang in there Dawn. I know it's tough, but it'll happen.
Yum, Cyndi, all your veggies sound great.
Oh, I just realized chicks, this morning's weigh-in puts me at 50 lbs. my halfway mark! That's exciting! I get to order my Toddy and my Froth Au Lait! Don't worry, I'll use the 3fc amazon link.
01-12-2008, 12:14 PM
Also going to try freezing some spaghetti squash before it goes away. It's become one of our favorite foods!
Oh no!! Spaghetti squash goes away?!?! It's become a fave here too! Uh oh
01-12-2008, 12:48 PM
HI REAL QUICK! I never have time for anything anymore girls, but I miss you all! Have to get in the shower and get ready for work on this lovely Saturday. Interview at 1, orientation after, and then work work work until probably 7 or so. Then meeting my family for dinner at D'Arcy's (like I need to be eating out.) They're buying though, so heck. Why not?
Hope everybody is well! Have a great day!!!!
01-12-2008, 02:50 PM
I am not a hot oatmeal fan. I've tried to like it, but I just don't. I love it in cookies, meatloaf etc, but just not hot for breakfast.
I was at the grocery this morning and saw some cracked wheat (bulgar) hot cereal and decided to try it out since I love cracked wheat salad.
Oh, yum! It was great. I added a few golden raisins, some vanilla splenda, some vanilla extract, some cinnamon a little bit of ICBINB and a little milk.
My mother and husband both loved it too. For those like me who had never had it before it may be a new breakfast or afternoon treat option on cold days. Other options like nuts and apples, blueberries, strawberries etc could be added.
01-12-2008, 04:55 PM
Good afternoon! This morning was a whirlwind and I never got the chance to peck in here, but I'm home for the rest of the day now.
I feel I should be granted with a 5 lb. loss just for today for managing to stay OP all morning. We went to a "breakfast party" where there were all kinds of delectables being gobbled up, but I stayed with my good old scrambled eggs. :smug: I swear, the stuff being offered was pure food porn! Then we dropped off my car for an oil change, and it was the manager's birthday, so I had to turn down a piece of cheesecake. :( After that, we had to run an errand to Delaware, came back and decided to head to the Amish market near Lancaster. I should have eaten something before we went, because while we were walking around in there, I was famished and light-headed. Jake wanted to stop at the Pa. Dutch Smorgasbord, but at that point I knew my will-power was on it's last thread, so he bought himself a hot dog and I had a sf ff latte to tide us over until we got home. I just finished eating a huge salad of grilled chicken, black beans, and lots of veggies. Don't you think I deserve at least a reward of a 5 lb loss for resisting all of that? I sure do! :D Oh, and on top of all that, Cindy's mother presented me with a lovely chocolate bread pudding souffle laced with brandy yesterday. :faint: I hid it in the refrigerator on the back porch for now, but I'm going to see if I can somehow freeze it. Only 3 more days on Phase 1. I CAN do this.
01-12-2008, 05:35 PM
Cold and foggy today, the roads are treacherous. It sure is pretty though. I finally got the Christmas trees down and am now putting the house back together.........well, except for the leak in plumbing in our bathroom. I got home today and the toilet is gone, the sink is gone, the tub and all the ugly tiles are gone, the linoleum ripped up...........AURRGHHH! I guess this means we are redoing the bathroom. It will be nice to have it done.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
01-12-2008, 05:48 PM
So far so good today!
I wanted to do Cola Chicken for dinner tonight, but the only diet soda I have on hand is Diet Root Beer. Will this be the same?
01-12-2008, 07:23 PM
Well, I can't believe it, but Saturday is almost over! :yikes: I've gotten every room clean except for my room and that is going to be a PITA! I'm thinking that it will take me about 2 hours to get it 100% done, but we'll see. I'm still planning on getting it finished tonight, regardless of how long it takes. I want tomorrow to be completely free for laundry (ugh) and leisure!
The boys are watching and enjoying the game - second half of the first one just started, so it's going to be a long night. I think I'll run out and get something to eat and come back and start cleaning around 7. I work best at night!
I hope everyone's Sat. is going well - here comes Sunday!
01-12-2008, 08:09 PM
Cottage, I visited Lancaster years ago when my husband was working near there. He was working in the area for about 4 months when my kids were little. I LOVED the landscape and bought a gorgeous log cabin quilt from an Amish Lady at her farmhouse. Seems like they have such a great way of life...peaceful. I found the culture so interesting.
01-12-2008, 08:37 PM
Looks like we might get the nor'easter tomorrow night. Personally I could use the time as long as the power stays on. I picked up local spinach, beet greens and 6 lbs of pears to add to my CSA bounty. My dehydrator is working overtime (and I'm getting a workout prepping it all!). I'm so excited to have spinach for omelets this week!
I think I'm addicted to delicata fries. Oh my :)
Good evening all
01-12-2008, 09:48 PM
Not much to report here..... I am somehow down 2 lbs this week, but I can't say it is due to 100% clean eating.
I am exhausted today, but did want to check in.
Barb I am thinking of you often and praying for you and Brian.:hug::hug:
01-13-2008, 12:23 AM
Thanks everyone for the support on the stuck scale issue. I checked my measurements and discovered I had lost about 4" overall in the last month. I then went back to the scale and had a conversation about its unacceptable attitude  We'll see if that does any good by next week.
Looks like everyone had very productive days. I got the Christmas lights taken down at my mom's house finally and got all my grocery shopping done. Now it's off to bed before a day of garage organizing tomorrow.
01-13-2008, 07:59 AM
:) Good Sunday morning to you!
I'm just waiting for Jake to finish getting ready, and we're off to meet the gang for breakfast. Sigh, more scrambled eggs and turkey sausage for me. I'm sure looking forward to being able to enjoy French Toast or oatmeal again, 2 more days!!!!
We'll go have a chat and a coffee with Mom & Dad afterwards, then I'm facing a huge pile of laundry at home. We'll probably have all the kids and grandkids here later this afternoon for supper.
What's your day looking like?
01-13-2008, 09:10 AM
Good morning chicks.
You gals sure do have a busy weekend.
Besides the funeral I went to yesturday I've been sleeping or laying on the couch watching tv. Per my doc I have to do a test on Friday morning and I can start working out again on the 25th for no more than 30 minutes a day - 3 days a week and slowly increase a day depending on how I feel.
Speaking of how I feel I am misserably depressed :( because I am not one for laying around so in turn all I have done is EAT  I just want this all over with - I want to go back to 8/07 when all as going well in life including my eating and weight loss.
Count your blessing everyday! You gals are always in my thoughts and prayers.
01-13-2008, 09:32 AM
Morning chicks, didn't get in yesterday, but it was a busy outside of the house day. Today is a busy inside of the house day. I need to clean and organise and make my meal plan for the week. I think I am going to stay on ph 1 til the week end. I had a slip on friday but I am proud of myself for not letting myself say oh well I just eat all week end and start again on monday. I was right back on track. Well I need to get going it is already 9:30 I have been up for 1 1/2 and have nothing done but yougurt and tea. Have a great day. I will try to pop in later.
01-13-2008, 09:51 AM
Hi gals. Everyone's busy busy busy this weekend!
We had a fun time with our company. Eating was not terrific. I was up another three pounds this morning. Anyone else gain when you ovulate? Temp goes down, scale goes up. Weird. Anyway, I did do my run this morning (look, my girl actually moved and you can see the whole zero!) so that made me feel better, but after eating a couple things I probably shouldn't have tonight I kind of spiraled off and here I am sitting with a half empty bag of jelly candies in front of me. I tell ya, though, logging on here sure killed the monster. I'll put the candy away now...in the trash can...
My laundry is almost done and then I'm off to bed. Keep the earth spinnin' for me!
01-13-2008, 09:58 AM
Ah coffee :coffee:
Why do cats decide that, on the one morning you can sleep in they want to run around like maniacs at 6 am?? And why is that the only time they're interested in the noisy toy you bought a month ago? beasts!
It's still lovely here today but it looks like we have a storm coming in late tonight. I'm going to get my next dehydrator batch set-up and get out for a walk while I can. Onions are next, that should be fun. My eyes really can't tolerate onions but they are soooo good dried. They taste like a healthy version of those crunchy fried things. Of course I just dry them for onion powder but they do taste awfully good as is ;)
I've noticed that a lot of us seem to have scale problems at the same time. Maybe they have a secret union and email each other when we're asleep? I've been losing and gaining the same two lbs for 10 days. so frustrating.
Hang in there GonnaBe. Can you do anything like really slow walking? I suppose you've made it through any back log of good books? Wish I had some great suggestions but I'd be as frustrated as you sound. FWIW I'll keep listening as much as you need.
Now off to cut onions.
01-13-2008, 12:40 PM
Just checking in.
01-13-2008, 02:38 PM
Quick check in for me between projects. Had no idea I was such a procrastinator until I cleaned out the garage. I have a whole new "to-do" list from projects I meant to start and never did. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
01-13-2008, 02:59 PM
I'm just finishing up the laundry and enjoying a break. Monica and the girls are on their way, so it won't be quiet around here for long. DS and family are all sick with colds, so they won't be over. I just made a yummy pot of the Fireside White Bean and Turkey Sausage Soup for lunch, with leftovers for lunches for a few days. If you haven't tried that soup yet, you should give it a go, it's super yummy! I always add a can of diced tomatoes and a bag of spinach or escarole to it, too. We're having Portobello Pizzas for supper, and I'm going to stuff some peppers with ricotta and spinach since Caitlyn isn't too fond of mushrooms. I'm tempted to get out that Chocolate Bread Pudding that I was given the other day, but it's in the freezer and that's where it will stay!
We're expecting some snow overnight, tomorrow may be a snowday!
01-13-2008, 04:05 PM
Cottage You know I am a fan of that soup as well. I made a batch last week and plan to do the same this week. I never thought of adding to it, but that would help my veggie count.
I need to be cleaning the bathroom, but decided to check in here first! My company will be here in about an hour and a half. Fortunately I have pretty much kept up with my house since the major cleanse, so I am not breaking too much a sweat. :)
GO COWBOYS!! (I am not a die-hard fan at all, but I guess you catch the fever after living here for awhile.)
01-13-2008, 04:41 PM
Gah, don't say that eight-letter word, cottage! I do not want a snow day! It must means the kids are underfoot, but I have to try to work as usual.
01-13-2008, 08:34 PM
They are calling for stormy weather here too.... maybe two days of it.... GRRRR. I hate snow days.... I just hope if we have to have a storm there will only be one day off. Have a good night chicks.
PS> I just tried the peanut butter cup believe it or not I have never had one in all the years I have been on the beach... It was yummy.
