I'll be away most of tomorrow but will try to post it Wednesday! Ruthxxx 05-15-2002, 08:49 AM Old Fashioned Beef Stew (from the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook - 1960) Ingredients: 2 pounds beef cut in 1 1/2 inch cubes 2 tablespoons olive oil 4 cups boiling water I tablespoon lemon juice (optional) 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 clove of garlic 1 medium onion sliced 1 or 2 bay leaves 1 tablespoon salt (I use less) 1 teaspoon sugar 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1/2 teaspoon paprika dash of allspice or cloves Method: Brown beef cubes in the oil. Add rest of ingredients. Cover and simmer (don’t boil) for 2 hours stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaves. (I throw it all in the crockpot after browning and cook on low all day) You can then add carrots, small onions, potato cubes or other veggies and simmer 30 more minutes. Thicken the liquid with flour for gravy if you like. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
