I am getting ready to start YOAD and have a question about yogurt- I see from the food journals that some people are having Breyers Light yogurt, but I am trying to stay away from aspartame and am curious about Stonyfield Fat Free yogurt.

I just compared the nutritional ingredients online and the big difference is in sugar/carb content because Breyers is artificially sweetened and Stonyfield is sweetened with real sugar.

I have read the book once before, and am now re-reading it, but I could not find anything about this except that they recommend plain yogurt (which I don't like).

So, my question is do you think it is appropriate to use one Stonyfield Fat Free yogurt in place of a plain yogurt and one serving of fruit?

I switched over to real yogurt a few months back during a bout w/strep throat. Perhaps your grocery or natural foods market carries Fage Total Yogurt. It is strained Greek yogurt and contains just milk, live yogurt cultures (& cream in the 2% & full-fat versions). Thats it! No gelatin, sweeteners or other junk...just yogurt as it was intended to be. You can also cook with the 2% & full-fat versions & use it in place of sour cream.

I use the 2% version & sometimes the 0% one when that's all I can find. I usually have it w/berries or other fruit for breakfast or a smaller version for a light snack. It's also nice with some cut up veggies as a dip. I also like it w/ a little honey sometimes.

I was never able to eat plain yogurts but I've found the Fage yogurts to be a wonderful delight...and so good for you too.

I would try to use something like this + the real fruit instead of the flavored Stoneyfield. JMO, but I don't think the flavored yogurts can compare in health benefits to yogurt + fruit. Plus, with the plain yogurt & fruit, you can control the sweetener if you need a little bit of that. :)

Thanks for the recommendation- I'll look for that brand.

I usually shop at the commissary (my DH is in the Army) so the selection of anything organic and/or healthy is very limited. We just moved here to Fayetteville, NC, so I imagine there has to be some kind of health food store here.

My first reaction was to say no way, I hate plain yogurt, but you know what, this is the beginning of a new lifestyle for me, and I HAVE to make myself try new things, and I will! :D

My boss mentioned to me that his family loves the Fage yogurt with just a bit of honey in it. You may want to consider trying that with it as well. Maybe I'll buy some to try too!
