WW Clubs and Groups - Night Owls #33
Ok the other thread was way too long!! Don't forget to check out #32 though - there are a few recent posts. (lol)
Well we are in the midst of a "wintery" few days. They say snow, rain and sleet today and tomorrow. I just hope the ice stays away - they say that Boston will be warmer - it sure does pay to be on the water. (sometimes!)
Ok where is PJ and Michelle?? It's not like you gals to be gone so long!
I think my sinus infection is finally leaving me <knock wood> - but who knows! I just know I am feeling better. I hope it lasts.
I went to WW and lost 1lb last nite!! I was very excited. I have been on antibiotics all month and was worried it would affect my weight. But I lost 2.6lbs this month! Its not TONS - but its something and I will take it :)
Well ladies I must go and fill my water bottle up. My bosses are all out today - so I have a "free day". Shhh don't tell anyone!

Hi!
I just registered at this website last night and tonight I am browsing around a bit....I, too, have been battling a stinkin'
sinus infection and finally made a trip to my Dr. on Tuesday for some antibiotics- seems like that's all I've been doing lately is taking antibiotics. I had the worst headaches, how about you?
Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi and I like your heart wreath image, too! Looking forward to making some new friends on this board! :-)

Just got our power back on from the storm and it is flickering again! When you live in the country it is not fun to have no water, heat or lights! (I did have some drinking water so I was still peeing up a storm even though I couldn't flush!)
Had cereal and milk, then tuna and lettuce, and Tomato soup(heated on a camping burner) and some more cereal and an apple to snack on. Now I need a hot cup of tea! (and maybe something else cause I'm hungry!)
Tara...good job losing while on the meds..that is hard! Thanks for starting a new thread! :)
Hi Julie, pj, Michele, Emmy, Bren, Judy, Suebee and all others!

HI Candice and everyone. I've been out of commission since Tuesday with a pinched nerve in my neck. It sends pain down my entire left side. It's not fun but I'm starting to get some better. I expect to be back at school by MOnday.
Love. JUDY
Hello from rainy, icy, dreary Boston!
We are in the midst of a snow, sleet and rain storm here - and its so depressing! Its been raining all day - yuck!
Make-up Maniac - Welcome! And YES my headaches have been terrible - I am on antibiotics too. Makes me nervous!
Candice - I hope your power stays on - losing power is just the worst! Good luck!
Judy - Sorry about your pinched nerve - that sounds very painful. I hope its better soon.
Well its almost quitting time. I hope you ladies have a great weekend!

OMG Judy....that is all you need! I bet it is the one nerve you have left too!;) ;)
It's a beautiful morning here in Florida. I just got back from feeding the horses in my nightie. :D Will go back in about 10 minutes to let them all out and start the day.
Well, the house tenant is now OUT...... Deb and Rich are starting to paint the garage so we can empty THIS garage and make it much more presentable. The two potential buyers we had fell through. One didn't qualify and the other started finageling (sp?) waaaaay too much for me. I've got over $10,000. worth of window treatments in this house aint they are NOT staying. $7,000. worth are from the woman who had helped me for the year I was pretty much bed-ridden and a very wealthy woman she cleaned houses for was redecorating and just GAVE her these drapes. I was getting rid of my old furniture (kitchen set and bedroom) and she said she would give me the drapes in exchange for the furniture since she and her husband had a small apartment and wanted their son OUT and this might "move him a little quicker". :o
Anyway, I went to an upholstery store and was told they were probably worth MORE. So with me...they stay and will fit perfectly to the four sliding pocket doors to the pool area and the round kitchen windows. And I mean a PERFECT fit. How lucky is that? I've already taken all the good treatments down but left a couple in the kitchen eat-in area and the office. The whole house was recently painted on the inside and we weeded and put all fresh mulch outside. Looks good and I don't want to move now. Nawwwwww, not really. I've got many mixed feelings. I love my neighbors but will be only minutes away so we'll still have our morning coffee at eachother's houses in our nightgowns at times, I'm sure.
I've been doing so well on WW it's scary. I've gotten alot of muscle though so as you all know.....I'm not losing much on the scale but everything I own is baggy on me. My undies look like Grandma's bloomers !!!!!!!!:o :o :o
I've printed out all of your posts and will get back to you tonight. I just wanted to fill you in on what's been going on with me and why I haven't been around much. Bill was also out of town for a few days so it's been a hectic week.
Judy and Tara - Hang in there.......I'll talk to you two later.
And congrats on the 2.6 lbs. gone Tara!!!! Way to go.
A big welcome to make-up maniac
Candice - Hello right back atcha! ;)
"See" you all later.

Thanks for making me feel welcome here. I'm gonna stop back in often. I need to get motivated again....looks like this is the place to be. :-)
Ok you guys......THAT'S ENOUGH! Get your little hynees in here ON THE DOUBLE!!!!!! Where aaaaarrrrrrree you all? Hey! If I I can make it in here....then so can you all. :p Come on now ladies.....I need you! We all need eachother ...... and when you don't show your "faces" in here, it really brings me down. :( So.....please start posting again and let me and the other owls know how you've been doing. I personally......TOTALLY BLEW IT last night at the Super Bowl party we had here. I made spaghetti with meatsauce, a Pork roast and we laid out cold cuts with all kinds of breads and rolls with potato and macaroni salad and cole slaw. You know, the usual SUPER BOWL stuff. :D My friend, Debbie..... brought a cherry cheesecake AND brownies. I had a piece of each. So today it's back on track and as of this very moment... 11:33am.......I'm doing fine.
That's it for me......we're having beautiful weather here ..... the low 70's, sunny and breezy. In otherwords, the reason we live here.
Have a great day everyone and I hope to "see" you all later.
By the way, I've now received two email/letters from Stella in Australia, some of you older owls should remember her. She's doing wonderful and sounds happy. Just thought I'd fill you in.
Bye...........

Pj is back! I would keep those window treatments too! Bloomers, really pj that must feel great!
I'm hurtin' like crazy and on top of that the scale said I was up by 2 and I haven't changed a thing! Hope it is my protonix(stomach med) that is doing it my tummy is really bloated like when I was pregnant and we all know that is not possible!;) No felmale plumbing left! I will have to measure my waist and see if it is actually larger than before! It feels hudge! I will try to remember to measure it tomorrow. I don't like feeling fat when I have been op!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi owls. I'm ready for a snowday. It's not winter if I don't get a snowday. Mind you, I only went to school 3 days last week because of a pinched nerve in my neck. It's still not the same, ya know?
We're okay here. Steve is coping with his MS as well as he can for a man in pain 24/7 and I'm coping as well as I can for a skinny lady trapped in a chubby lady's body. I wonder what will happen to all this skin when I get to goal? Will it suck in or sag like my boobs? :o
Judy - "Will it suck in or sag like my boobs?"
Almost pee'd my pants on that one.......
:D At our age......who gives a rats A** WHAT it does ..... as long as it goes away!!!! :p
I have to give you and your husband alot of credit Judy.....you're both handling things well.......although I'm sure that at times.....it may seem otherwise. Like the ole cliche says...."take one day at a time". Wish I could wave a magic wand and make things all better for you both. I think of you often. ;)
Candice - Do you have to get your blood checked for that med you're on? It might be causing something more serious than just bloating. I take Lipitor for my cholesterol and have to get my blood checked every 3 months to make sure it's not effecting my liver. Anyway, keep me from worrying 'bout ya and get it checked out, huh?
Julie - My husband travels alot!!!!! Funny though, I don't miss him until the 2nd or 3rd night. :p And he STILL asks me as soon as he checks into his hotel the first night..."do you miss me"?????? and I tell him...."not yet"......heh-heh  Maybe that's why we're still happily married for 15 years. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Ok guys.......it's time for my bath and then bed. I've had a long, long day. SOMEONE sent me on a wild goose chase to check out a horse abuse case. SOME PEOPLE REALLY STINK........!!!!!!!!! What their/her motive was, I don't know.....all I DO know is it really messed up my day....wasted alot of time that I could have been spending on doing "real" horse rescue work and it really pisses me off that I fell for it. I just can't wait until she calls me back.....IF she does.
Hope you all have a good night. I really need a good, solid night's sleep for a change.
"See you".......

Julie..I miss mine right before he leaves but not while he is gone!;) He doesn't go away that much!
Judy...You still have your sense of humor..that is a good thing! You poor thing..pinched nerves hurt!!!!! Are getting that snow that went to the south?
Tara...loved that Stuffed pasta Shell recipe!
It has to be the medication cause I stopped if for a day and 1.5 pounds is gone and my mesurements are the same.
PJ..that med should not cause any problems..but who knows..I'm do for an endoscopey this month anyway..I just have to schedule it but I hate that procedure!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too bad about the wild goose chase or was it a horse chase!

HI everyone and happy hump day:)
Hey Judy, when you get to goal, your boobs will sag but most of the skin will shrink back into place if you do some firming and toning. This question came up when another leader was dealing with a woman who lost 150 pounds and she was worried about her skin sagging. This is drastic and it is something I would never do, but there have been members who have had surgery to remove the flabby skin. YIKES that is drastic!
Pamela Jo and Candice, I miss Kevin even more because our daughter Meghan is one not to listen to me. She thinks that she can do what she wants when dad is gone. We will be married 24 years this may, thats alot of years;)
I love the WW meeting topic this week.....The Right Mix (week 6) The meeting I did yesterday.....the members really started thinking about how, what and when they eat certain foods. Very interesting.
Hope you all have a great day.
Julie:D
Hello :)
What a week! And its only Wednesday :^:
I had a dental appointment today and found out I need a crown. Ok fine - no problem. Then they told me the price and I nearly fainted. With my insurance it will cost me nearly $700. I don't think so! I am looking elsewhere. And I have already found cheaper. The place I go to is VERY nice and VERY high tech (they did my xrays today on the computer - they are digital!). I am not paying for that. Sorry! (its a new place - I have only been there 1 year). I mean sure I have to pay something - but $700. The place I am going to go to will run me about $400 or less. THAT is more reasonable if you ask me. I can't believe what some places charge. I am outraged!
Then our water heater broke today - and we can't get it replaced until tomorrow afternoon. So no hot water until then. Not really a HUGE deal - but its a bit of a nuisance!
Oh and I have a nice little yeast infection - just one of those fun side effects of antibiotics. I hate them - they are just so annoying.
Oh yeah and I am still having headaches - so I got my eyes checked yesterday (it was time). So I am dealing with that - although I am getting my new glasses by Friday. THANK GOD! I know that will help - I go every 2 years and it was time. (I could have went in December - and I should have).
With me everything happens at once - have you noticed? Its like my life can be quiet for MONTHS and then BAM all this stuff happens in 1 week. Amazing!!
But then again Sunday was a great day here in Boston. The Patriots won the Super Bowl!! I even won $100 in my pool :) The big parade was yesterday and man did alot of people show. We had 1.2 million people right around my office building. I got to watch the parade from my office and we had the best view. We are on the 2nd floor - it was GREAT! And yesterday was the coldest day of the year - figures! But we were toasty warm inside :) - the weather didn't keep people away though - I had to fight through a crowd on my way back from the eye doctors. It wasn't pretty!
Julie - I didn't realize Meghan didn't listen to you! Good thing Kevin isn't gone often huh! Kids!
Candice - I hope you are feeling better and not so achy!
PJ - How goes the horse business?
Judy - Yeah its been mild here too -- I love it - but the germs are going wild. Everyone is sick - so a snowday wouldn't be so bad!
Ok girls I have to run - I have a bunch of crap...ahhh I mean work to do here. And I need some water - tonite is WW - wish me luck!

TGIT (thank God it's Thurs.:dizzy: )
It sure has been a busy week but the time is really passing fast. I just found out yesterday that I will be starting another AT Work WW meeting in Green Bay on Tues. I'm really looking forward to it, seeing that I'm already there on Tues.
Tara: That sure is a lot of money for a crown. When I had it done, with out insurance, mine only cost $10. Thank goodness for good insurance. Yes, Meghan does talk back to me. She is going through what other moms say is the teenage years. Ok fine but Matthew has never talked back to me or given us a day of worry. I swear that is why I'm so gray:( Meghan has me worried all the time. I keep telling everyone that she is for sale, but I have had no takers:(
Do any of you have any advice on what I can do with a wise cracking, mouthy 15 year old girl? I would appreciate any advice.
Better get going, have a good one.
Julie
Julie - "Can we talk?????????!!!!!!!! I have a 13 (14 in July) year old daughter who is going on 21. She's getting her braces today and we're just about to walk out the door but I just HAD to reply to your post. Yes, yes, yes, and yes. It really IS the age. I didn't believe it at first and figured it was the PARENTS not giving them enogh discipline. But nope, it's their peers and other kids at school and it rubs off on them. Even though Jackie is a leader and not a follower....she falls into this category. My advise is persistence. I take away the phone, tv. and computer. Yep....ALL THREE!!!!! Makes a really big impression.......and you don't even have to yell. :D so......."you want to talk". LOL.....I'm right here with you.
"See" you later.
Hello :)
Just checking in with my owlie buds. Has anyone heard from Brenda?? I hope everything is ok with her. And emmy where are you at girl? I emailed Michelle and she has been struggling with program - Michelle if you are lurking COME OUT AND POST! This is when you need us the most!!
Oh yeah I went to WW last nite and lost .6. I was VERY happy :) My week wasn't great OP wise - but girls I have to say tracking works. I have tracked FAITHFULLY since 1/1/02. And I have lost almost every week. Even just alittle - but they all add up. :) I track it all - whether I go over or not (and I do go over - but not as much as I used to :D ). Give it a shot!
Julie - Its funny that you say that about Matthew not being fresh when he was 15. Paul's sister Michelle (I am sure I told you about her) - she is the same way. Paul is the angel and Michelle is the DEVIL. And she is 26! I hope Meghan grows out of this stage - but paul's sister never has. This girl has been so spoiled rotten that its totally backfiring. Paul grew up in the same house, same parenting and he is fine. So it can happen to 1 and not the other. I agree with PJ - punish her. Take away stuff that she likes. Computer, phone, etc. It sounds mean - but in the end she will love you for it. GOOD LUCK! Kids just like to be bad - if they can.
Ok I need more water - oh and that is my other secret. I drink about a gallon a day and it really helps weight loss. I find if I drink EXTRA water every week I do well. :)

Wow..I guess my boys were good.......they never once talked back, however the younger one who is going on 22 next month is kinda strange..he is in pre-med and very smart but no common sense and thinks he is always right now. We don't see much of him cause he is so busy........
I'm feeling pretty bad, my arms and legs are cramping and feel weak...I keep stretching, have to everyday but need to get back to walking on a regular basis. I want warmer weather! Still feel big in the tummy too!
Julie..we celebrated 25 years this last year:)
Tara..I hate taking antibiotics!
700 big ones My gosh..that is highway robbery!
PJ....how did Jackie do with the braces??????????
Here is my son last year on his Birthday, not sure if he will have time to come home this year!:(

Pam: thanks for the words on kids. Meghan had a good day yesterday, no talking back....or anything else. Actually most of the time she is ok, but it is a shocker the way she will mouth off. I would never have done that to my mom, if I did, I don't think I would have a face on my head:dizzy: Even though other moms have said the same thing about their daughter's, sometimes I just feel so alone with the situation.
How did the braces go yesterday? Boy do I remember the day both my kids got theirs. It sure is worth it, they both have beautiful smiles.
Candice: What a good looking son you have. You must be so proud.
Tara: I don't think you ever mentioned Paul's sister but from what I"m hearing, she is what I don't want Meghan to turn out as:(
I'm off to work in the flower shop today. My friend is really bogged down. There is a funeral tomorrow for a much loved older lady in the village. She was 96 years old and died visiting her sisters in Illinois.
Have a great day everyone.

This is so cute!
Hi Girls!
Julie - I feel the same as you at times as per "feeling alone". I attribute it to my own self - esteem as a mother which at times like these.....I start to question myself. You know.......what COULD have or SHOULD I have done???? All the questions us mothers have going around in our heads when we start to doubt ourselves......it's amazing. I don't do it too often anymore because now that I've been doing it for almost 14 years....I feel more confident than when she was much younger. Let's just say that with Billy......it's a whole other ball game.:dizzy: Boys are just plain different. :D
Soooooo, that's the scoop. As for Jackie's braces....it went fine. I knew she'd be sore so I let her stay home the next day. Glad I did.....because she was wiped out. I remember getting mine. Had them for almost 5 years because I wouldn't wear my "head-gear". Did they actually think a teenage girl in junior high-school in the 70's would WEAR THAT CONTRAPTION???/!!!!! Geeeeez, at night time....sure.....but TO school????? NO WAY!!!! And my parents didn't make me....so I had to wear them longer. Oh well, they came out great. Unfortunately, both of my kids need braces. Billy just lost his 2nd tooth and the BIG teeth are really crooked. So, atleast our dental ins. will pay for a little more than 1/2 on each of them which still comes out to a pretty penny.
By the way, in general....Jackie is a great kid. But those "bad" days are the ones that stick with you. AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Candice - You've got yourself a good looking kid there. Must run in the family
:D
Do you mean to tell me your boys NEVER, EVER talked back to you? Geeez, give me the secret to that one because that's a first for me. I hope you're feeling a little better now. I'll try and send some Florida sunshine your way.;)
Well, I'm outta here. Was spreading the manure ( I know....Ewwwwww) with the tractor and spreader today in the small and large pastures..........then met big and little Bill for Billy's first scrimage hockey game. He did awesome. I was so surprised. Last time I saw him practice he was really whineyyyyyyyyy.....and I was ready to pull him out. Not today, he was in there the whole game and going after the puck like a wild man. Scored a goal and assisted in another. That's my boy!:D
Have to get back to the house at the stables. We're picking out the colors of paint for the bedrooms. The only room that will have carpeting will be the master bedroom which suits me fine. This way, no stains or mess to worry about in the kids rooms and it will be much better for their allergies. Area rugs are what we'll be looking for next since the entire house is Tile. I'll take some digital picturs of before and after. Give me a week or two though. It's really a mess right now. Alot of tiling and cleaning going on.
See you all later.......Oh, oh, oh!!!! Went to my doctor yesterday and I've lost NINE POUNDS since my last visit to him in December. That's the only time I weigh myself now.....once every three months or whenever I have a doctors appt. That way, I know it's correct....I don't go near the scale here at home. I'm afraid that I'd sabbotage myself if I found out I lost a pound or two and figure I could indulge a little (which is exactly what I do once a week only).....so far, seems to be working just fine. Have a great weekend everyone.
Hugs,
weightwatcher

Hi everyone,
Well it is Sat. and I just got home from Meghan's make-up basketball game. They beat the pants off the other team. I video taped it so that when my husband gets home next week he can watch it.
Not sure where in Illinois grandma Bousha (that is what everyone calls her) was when she passed away. All I know is that she was visiting her sisters.
As for Meghan, today is a good day. After the game she came up to me off the court and hugged and kissed me, imagine that. He friend from Niagra was here visiting also. What a nice young man and he has red hair....my favorite;)
Well I best get to cleaning while no one is home.
Oh, got a phone call from Kevin (my husband) and we talked a long time, both missing each other lots! One would think that after 24 years of marriage we would be ok but I think the heart gets weaker when they are gone. I do like to have my private time when no one is home like right now.....but I can' t stand the thought of Kevin not coming home tonight from work.
Ok, enough belly aching from me.

Does anyone know the scoop on the glycemic index of foods, when I had the at home # for WW they kept telling me to eat those because they were 0 pts, well I know that they are good for you cause nothing with 0 pts is bad right?????? Anyway they say the higher the index the more you are to get an addictive behavior to the food. (called a craving) Anyone have any info on this? Or.........where I can find some.
Gotta go take a hot bath and wash my hair.................
How about nuts...what are the good kinds to eat (they all are not healthy).

Hello and Happy Monday!
Well the snow storm that was supposed to happen didn't. We did get about 1/2 inch but that wasn't enough to get the snowmobiles out on the trails.
Candice: I have to honestly tell you that I have never heard of the glycemic index foods. Maybe I will e-mail some of my WW leader friends and see what they have to say. As for eating nuts, all of them have lots of fat and as for the best ones to eat.....any of them with in portion control servings.
PJ: good for you, not getting on a scale at home. I wish that all my members would do the same. There are some that will weigh themselves in the morning, naked....well we all know that we weigh less in the morning so when they weigh-in in the afternoon, fully clothed.....they are up. Then they get upset saying they weighed less at home.....they are right but look at the time of day and what they are wearing.
Hope you all have a great day.
Julie

Was just reading this thread and saw your question about the Glycemic Index. Every food has a glycemic rating. It has to do with how fast the food breaks down into glucose in your system. I don't think there are any zero glycemic foods. It is out of 100 points, so I will give you an idea. The more whole the food is the lower the glycemic rating on the scale. If the food is starchy, then it is also higher on the scale. Of course, the faster the food turns to glucose the faster you become hungry again. It all has to do with keeping your blood sugar levels stable.
Take pasta for instance. 1 C (6 oz) cooked spagetti is 41- 1gm fat
1 med. orange (4 oz) is 44 on the scale with 0 fat
1/2 c (2.5 oz) roasted, salted peanuts is 14 on the glycemic scale but they have 38 grams of fat.
So that is an idea of how it works. The book I have is called The Glucose Revolution, the Authoritative Guide to the Glycemic Index, by Jennie Brand-Miller, PH.D, Stephen Colagiuri, M.D., Thomas M.S. Wolever, M.D., PH.D and Kaye Foster-Powell, M. Nutr. & diet.
This is a very interesting book. If you eat a high glycemic food and a low glycemic, then they balance to a moderate glycemic. Any questions just ask.
Here is a website for you to go see the scale.http://www.multidiet.com/TMD/14/Carb04.htm

Hi everyone,
Well it is Ash Wed. I think that it is early this year. It will make for along day. I have two WW meetings and then head up to church tonight.
Candice, you certainly can send me your picture, yes I have seen them already but what the heck, then I can make my own folder of on-line friends.
Watch out for all those Valentine Cookies:) Seeing that it is lent, I usually give up all sweets, so I won't be worried about consuming to many of them myself.
Only 3 more days until Kevin gets home:love:
Have a great on points day everyone!
