So, *yawns* another night sharing the couch with the cat. :) I stayed in bed longer, but by about 12 it was evident that even the earplugs weren't helping me stay asleep with the strange noises coming from next to me. I wasn't on the couch more than 5 minutes when I had my purring sleeping companion to keep me warm again. :D
This isn't helping with getting started with any sort of exercise routine.
Didn't eat too badly yesterday, I don't think. Kept busy at work and in the evening so there wasn't much snacking going on. Haven't quite figured out how I'm going to track changes or "successes" though, so this is something I need to iron out quickly. If I don't see anything positive happening, I'll loose motivation I think.
So, if we're swapping "cold stories", I just checked the recorded temperature and it's currently -27C. Translated, that's abut -17F -- colder when you factor in the windchill. Welcome to the Great White North, eh? The only thing good about this kind of cold is that it's too cold to produce snow. :)
Anyhoo, ladies & gents - time for me to try and wake up.
Hope everyone has a great day!

A -17 is not even a joke. Its giving me the chills just thinking about it. Way too cold!!!! We have 7 right now and I thought we were cold. Bundle up out there!!
Off to do grocery shopping-trying to get this diet off on the right foot. Wish me luck.
Then I think I will come home and veg on the couch with my baby (who is a very spoiled and loved dog).
Good day all!!!!

I love the cold! Its been in the teens and 20's around here lately but its getting ready to go up to the 40's again, which I hate, winter should feel like winter and not spring. I'm like a furnace so the cooler the better for me. I big time overslept this morning, I woke up at 7:10, only one of the kids was up and going and I guess he thought no one else was going to school this morning so he didn't bother to nudge anyone. Needlesstosay, its been crazy this morning, and now I'm gonna feel rushed all day. My plan is to get the little one off to preschool, come home and do my workout, then sit down and read my Bible for a bit before I have to pick her back up. I'm not sure how thats gonna work since I have a "to do" list that doesn't involve either one of those things. Priority though has to go to me. Right? I keep telling myself that anyway. Have a beautiful day!!!!!!!

Good morning - Happy Friday!
Well, it is like CC's part of the world here - warmer weather. It is already 16 degrees this a.m. It is supposed to be near the 40's this weekend. I think Rooster is going to win today's weather contest.
Glowing - did you find anything ineresting at the grocery store?? I need to get some better stuff in the house too.
We are headed down to my parents tomorrow for one last Christmas celebration. Hopefully, my bad eating will end with this Sunday! I have been pretty off track since Thanksgiving...too much junk around my house, relatives' homes.
Lauren - I had a quick question about keeping track of our exercise - can we keep track of our strenght training too with the minutes = miles??
Hello to everyone else...

Morning all!!
yup, Lawrence, you win the prize for the coldest person....no one else is even going to come close! Hopefully you can get some good sleep in this weekend!!
Glowing, great job on grocery shopping. I went to our local farm store & got a bunc 'o veggies the other day. Got some fennel, tried it, and decided it tastes too much like black licorice for me. Others have told me it doesn't have that much of a taste, but I think it does. So, I threw it in a pan with peppers & onions & olive oil for fajitas...not bad, as a lot of the bite cooked out of it! BTW..what kind of dog do you have? I have a bichon, and she's very spoiled too.
CC~I like the cold a little, but not to where it hurts. Normally i'm always freezing - opposite of you - so I have to bundle up, even in the house I wear socks, slippers, and two layers of shirts! And that's with the thermostat at 70!! I recently discovered flannel sheets...what a wonderful invention! How old is your "little one"? I have a preschooler too, as well as an 8 year old boy. ANd yes, you're right, you do need your time, and exercise and bible meditation time is very important, so make sure you fit it in, girl!!
GG~ you mentioned a couch to 5k program...any idea where i can find that? Should I just google it...I guess I'll try that. Sounds interesting. I used to run 4 miles a day in high school, but that was 20 years ago (ugh) and I'm nowhere near the shape I was in then, but I would certainly love to be. I think running (esp. outside) is a great way to de-stress and clear your mind, don't you agree?
So I have 170 cookies to make before next wednesday...55 pawprints for favors for an appreciation day, and 120 baby bottles & onesies for a baby shower. Then I have three cakes to make for next weekend, but wont do those till Thurs/Fri. next week. someone asked if I had a website. I don't but I have a myspace page with a lot of my stuff on it. myspace.com/eat_it_too if anyone is interested.
better go, I think I have to call the vet. My dog has been mopeyfor about three days. She's been eating & eliminating okay, and she'll perk up a bit & want to play now & then, but is sleeping and sad-looking a lot. Hey, any ideas, GG?
I'll check in later!!

morning all...well its suppose to warm up today...to 47...so yeah!!!! i think ill go ride my horse this afternoon (after it warms up a bit). I slept like a rock last night...probably from the hard workout i did. I also will go to the gymtoday (not sure if i'm going to do wt or just aerobics) and then help DH take his baby (aka his bmw) to the shop to get the dents taken out (he has an older car that has some dents). So nothing really exciting...but i want to enjoy my last day off before work. the next few weeks will definately be crazy..i'll be working 6 days a week for two weeks and have a conference to go to for a week. But its alright..i like the extra money of i get working an extra day..it will help pay off christmas and the remaining of my personal training. And the conference should be fun since its near my old stomping grounds and i'll get to see alot of my old vet schood buddies.
alright all..hope everyone has a beautiful day.

pam you were posting at the same time....
as for the couch to 5 k here's the site
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
also, on the exercise forum...there is a thread specifically for the couch to 5k that they may be able to help you with some advice. It really is a good program to follow...it will build up your stamina. Good luck!
as for the dog...could be a lot of stuff...could be something mild like full anal glands to something more serious like pancreatitis (if she gets a fatty diest), could also be arthritis or a pulled muscle, could be even more serious stuff like masses. My suggestion without seeing the animal would be bloodwork and xrays to rule out serious problems (unless his anal glands are full), but its hard to realy get an idea without laying my hands on the dog...let me know what they find. hope its nothing serious!

Good Morning!
I definately will not win the cold war. We are supposed to be in the 50s, and hopefully it will melt some of the snow.
ccmom-I also have a preschooler but he does not go back until next week. He loves school.
Pam-I also am going to be visiting the vet for my guniea pig. It looks like his mange is back.
I started back to work yesterday. My kiddos did really well considering we had been off for two weeks. I just forgot how tiring it was to teach all day. I was in bed by 8:30 p.m. I did really well with my eating yesterday and didn't even get into the kiddos snacks. YEA!!
Have a great Friday!!

Hope everyone is well. I need to go to the grocery store and Wal-mart but it is so cold outside I think I will just lay in the bed with the baby and veg. Pretty soon our bonding time will be over:cry:
pmasci... tried to find your myspace but I couldn't. I have one also you can search by my name (Tamia Steward).
tanner... I remember when my guinea pig had mange. I paid $12 for it and two weeks later I spent $250 to get rid of the mange. He was my baby by then so I didn't really mind.

GG ~ thanks for the advice. It's funny you mentioned anal glands, cause I was just thinking that this AM. She's never had them done, and the way she's sitting, well, she wont sit on her rear (she kind of hovers) and she's been lying on her belly with her legs splayed out behind her. My MIL does her dogs every month, I think I'll take a ride over there & have her do that for me, then see how the dog is. Thanks so much. Also, I had looked under the exercise forum a little last night, didn't find the 5K thing, so thanks for the link...Okay, just let the dog in & she's running all over the place like usual. I hope it's just her anal glands!!
Jasmine~good luck with your guinea pig, hope he gets better. What grade do you teach??
Tamia~ I'm all for staying in bed with the little guy. BTW, my niece's dr. is Dr. Spray..did I tell you that already? Oh, for the myspace, did you use underscores or dashes? It needs to be underscores. I also have a personal page, I'll search for you, so be looking for a request from me :)

Good morning,
While it still cold up here in the north but not nearly as cold as -17. You can keep that cold temp. We are supposed to warm up this weekend and things will start melting. Oh yeah...what a mess that will be. We are also supposed to get rain. Is it spring yet. I got up at 6:30, got the son off to school, the husband off to work, and now it is just me and the daughter and cats. I really don't feel motivated to do anything but the laundry is piling up and daughter needs a bath. I was looking through cookbooks for something new to fix for dinner. I am getting tired of the same old same old things. I guess I should get started. Talk to you all soon.

Full anal glands... Not sure that I want to know what this is all about;-). I've owned dogs before but can't ever recall running into that problem? Sounds... icky.
Another day of taking down decorations and attempting to get organized around here. I really dislike January... least favorite month of the year. Hope that everyone has an excellent day and stays warm. It's supposed to warm up this weekend on this end as well (yeah!).

Rooster, can't even imagine that cold. Seriously, how do you keep the house warm? Good luck w/sleep, hope DW feels better soon.
Pam, I've always wanted to try fennel just to see if it did taste like licorice. Good luck with the dog. My older dog gets that depressed look sometimes. It was wierd the other day she kept starring at DD we couldn't figure out why though.
Tamia, I would cuddle with that baby as long as I could if I were you, geez they sure do grow up way too fast.
Just cleaning today myself. Kids rooms. I don't think DH cleaned them before we came so they are extra bad, needing ceiling to floor cleaning...closets, ceiling fans. YUCK! How much fun? Had an egg, toast, and coffee for breakfast. I guess not so bad, of course it's dinner that usually gets me.
Hope everyone is having a great FRIDAY!

joan - yes it is sort of gross...you don't want to know LOL
pam - glad to hear he's feeling a bit better..i've had many dogs where the owners bring them in saying they just arent' acting right..i find full anal glands...and then the dog is acting all happy and relieved. somedays its easy work..sometimes...i have to work harder (: glad you found the c25k forum...i think its a great program if you really want to run and can't seem to get the stamina...i loved it when i did it.
fightingtoloose-now hurry up and get your bumm out of bed and do something. trust me there was ice on the car when i left for the gym...but it felt great to go. I'm waiting for the afternoon to warm up a bit before i go ride my horse...its suppose to be 47 today so that's more normal riding weather...and there's not the killer wind there was the last time i rode.

Hi all!
Im back. So sorry to be away so long but the biz was busy and I just couldnt find the time to breathe let alone post. I WAS good on the diet. Didnt exercise much but ran around all day so I think what kept me on track. I did gain 3 lbs just after Christmas but lost it by New Years. So Im even. Sooo, how IS everyone? Im doing well. Bella had a wonderful Christmas and New Years. She was soo cute and excited. She is a little crazy for those webkinz and we got her a basket full. She couldnt get on the site Christmas day to register but the day after we id. Mark also got a new mac computer so we are passing down our old one to Bella. We will fix it so she can only go to the webkinz site and maybe playhouse disney. Mark loaded lots of new games on it for her so she loved that. My brother professionally competed in snowboarding so we got her one and he has been teaching her how. She chickens out a little but is building confidence as she learns.
As for me, I got some amazing coach leather shoes and a matching caramel leather bag. My friend here that the store got me these hand made glass leaves for my china cabinet. I was shocked. I had gone to the gallery to see them and knew the price so she kind of went way too overboard getting me that. I think she has sort of adopted me. She has 2 boys my age and no daughter. How about all of you? Joan, how were yours? I bet just tooo excited!!
You know, Joan, I thought of you the other day. We have this Irish restaurant in my town and my stepdad plays in a band (they love to do ethic stuff so Irish, Scottish, Polish, that sort of thing) well, he always plays there for Patty's day and its soo fun going there. We bring Bella and have pints and all these 100% irish people are there (not wearing bright green this or that, but Irish wool sweaters and those caps), and the little girls do irish dancing and kids run around. Its just a wonderful place. Well, someone burned it down on Christmas day. We were sooo sad. I cant begin to tell you. I loved going there. And to think of all the people that lost their jobs- on Christmas day, no less...Just awful!! They have plans to rebuild by St. Patricks day but I dont know, thats awfully soon. I dont know. The irish made me think of you.
Well, I should be off. So nice reading about all of you again!!

Hi All!
TGIF!!
GG, LMAO at the anal glands! My old dog used to need her's squeezed every few months...sometimes they'd shoot across the room, the vet was always careful to stand to the side when doing them! :lol3:
Laurie! Welcome back girl! Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas, etc.
It's going to get warm here next week!! Starting today, we're having a heatwave of about 35-ish! :woo: By Tuesday it's supposed to hit 60!! And then it'll probably get cold again and everyone will get sick.
Will try to respond more later. Gotta run right now...

Welcome back Laurie! I was thinking of you too during the holidays... every time that I tasted a new wine;-). Figured that you were up to your ears in baskets. That is too bad about the pub. I love places like that; live music, good food and drinks. I wanted my two little girls to take Irish dance lessons but they'd have nothing to do with it. My 7 year old couldn't get beyond the hair. You know those curly wigs that the dancers wear? They freak her out LOL. I'm glad that Bella had such a happy xmas.
Pam ~ FYI, fennel is excellent on/in anything with a red sauce. It's great on pizza or lasagna.
Just finished packing up the last of the xmas stuff. The house looks so bare and boring now. It does feel good though to have it all taken down.

Pam - Good luck with your dog!! Mine is a Lhasapoo he looks just like a Bichon - and the light of my life (besides my children and Husband) although on certain days he may be better than my hubby (lol).
I have never tried fennel although I seee it used alot on the food network. Might have to give it a try.
The grocery store was good--gota away without too many temptations - I have decided that my whole family is going to be more healthy this year - which is making me very unpopular right now. They all want the candy and cookies that went along with the holidays. I am sticking to my guns and bought only healthy fruit and grain bars istead of chips. OOOh am I going to hear it after school. Lol.
If anyone has recipes that call for boneless skinless chiK breast without using peppers or onions I would love to hear about it.

Joan,
What kind of decorations do u use? I am white lights (which Im kinda getting sick of) and cranberries everywhere. I recently got into these August Moon figurines. I am NOT a figurine kinda gal but they have this nightmare before christmas quality that I find so cool. Check em out. Dan DiPaolo designs these. I guess this is the last year that he is working with Lang. Too bad, so cool!! I got a Bunch of halloween too.- Also, wanted to tell u about this new trick I found. I take a photograph of my Bella and Print it in Black and White or muted color on watercolor paper and I watercolor certain things (her cheeks, a flower she is holding, her hair, her sweater). Its easy as coloring and looks soooo cool. I did a few and framed them. I got soooo many compliments at our party.

I have to admit I don't have enough time to catch up with everyone in detail today so I just skimmed over the posts - please forgive me for that - I won't be this way every single day.
I made some horrific food choices yesterday evening, but today is a new day. I had about 800 extra calories! Yikes!
I have worked out some new strategies to follow through with my plan, and I'm aiming for a pound a week this year.
About the Couch to 5K program - I LOVE IT! I made it to running one mile before I had to give up my training because of not being able to make it to the gym (there's nowhere 'safe' to run around here). I'm planning on picking it back up if DH buys me a good treadmill.
Best wishes to all! :D

Lauren Thanks for the info - I hope I am in business now.
I went out to Wendy's for lunch today - thought I would get a salad - of course it had to be a Southwestern Taco salad. To the tune of 635 calories and 35 fat grams. YUCK!!!!! I vow to do better tomorrow.
Eating out is my downfall - and being home alone all day with my fridge.
I think it needs a lock that takes me 20 minutes or so to get open - then I might think twice about what I eat.
Although I did buy lots of fruit and snack veggies at the store so lets hope tomorrow will be better.

Hey all...
Laurie~welcome back!!! I figured you were busy with your shop. glad you had good holidays. Ihear ya about the Webkinz - Cadence got one for Christmas (her third) & was bummed she couldn't get it registered. Took care of it that night, though.
Joan, maybe I'll give the pasta & fennel a try. I just think it really needs to be cooked to very well done for me. My GF said to slice it thin, that didn't help. When I say I don't like licorice, I mean I REALLY don't like it!!
Lauren & Glowing~ too bad about the eating :( I have been so good all day, and I just ate 4 Reese's bells (about the size of kisses) and feel mad now. Why did I blow it?? They certainly weren't worth the calories...let's get back on track with dinner...I'm having tilapia & snow peas & a salad, maybe some other veg. too. Hey, Lauren, when do you start the new job?
Ek, I'm excited aobut trying the c25k program...gonna give my ankle one more weekend to rest before jogging on it. We'll see. I have a tread in the basement...we've had it 8 years, and it's probably one of the best purchases we've ever made. We also have a weight gym with leg ext. & lat bar, so DH uses that. I do the Firm for my lifting. I love it, and I just found out they have the next system at Kohl's for 50.00...woo hoo!
Well, took daisy (my dog) to MIL's & got the anal glands done. OMG the smell is disgusting:barf: Anyway, she was good for a while & is being mopey again. I think I'll take her to the vet tomorrow. She doesn't seem to be hurt anywhere, is eating pretty well, etc...dunno.
I baked 60 cookies, need to decorate them & do 120 more tomorrow...busy, busy weekend for me, but it's worth the few bucks I'll get next week. Cadence wants a Hannah Montana party for her birthday, so I'll put the money aside for that :)
Later!

I do wine dinners sometimes 4 courses with wine to go with. I did this chicken from epicurious that you might like Pam
Chicken Stuffed with Fennel and Garlic
3 large fresh fennel bulbs, trimmed, each cut into 8 wedges
2 tablespoons plus 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
10 garlic cloves, peeled
2 tablespoons fennel seeds, coarsely crushed in resealable plastic bag
2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme
2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
2 tablespoons chopped fresh tarragon
2 tablespoons chopped fresh marjoram
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 3-pound whole chickens
2 lemons, halved
1 cup Vernaccia di San Gimignano wine or other dry white wine
1/3 cup low-salt chicken broth
Prep
Cook fennel in large pot of boiling salted water until tender when pierced with knife, about 8 minutes. Drain. Transfer to bowl. Mix in 2 tablespoons oil; garlic; 1 tablespoon each fennel seeds, thyme, rosemary, tarragon, and marjoram; then 3/4 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper.
Preheat oven to 450°F. Mix remaining 1 tablespoon each fennel seeds and herbs in small bowl. Rinse chickens inside and out; pat dry. Rub chickens inside and out with lemon halves, squeezing some of juice into cavities. Rub outside of chickens with 1/4 cup oil, then fennel seed mixture. Sprinkle chickens generously with salt and pepper. Loosely stuff chickens with some of fresh fennel mixture. Tie legs together. Place chickens, breast side down, in large roasting pan. Arrange remaining fresh fennel mixture around chickens.
Roast chickens 30 minutes, basting occasionally with pan juices. Combine wine and broth and pour over chickens. Roast 15 minutes. Turn chickens breast side up. Roast chickens until juices run clear when pierced with fork in thickest part of thigh, about 40 minutes longer. Transfer chickens and fennel mixture to platter. Pour pan juices into bowl; skim off fat. Pour juices over chickens and serve.
Awesome!!

Hey everyone!! I haven't been around a lot lately, and I think it's showing in my (lack of) diet success. Maybe I should try getting on here in the mornings.
Anyway, I've been losing steam on my diet and my portion sizes are slowly increasing. I'm still saying "no" to a lot of foods and keeping the calories low, but I guess I'm probably just maintaining instead of losing. This is the point where I have given up in the past, so I HAVE to pick up the momentum NOW!! I'm thinking a morning walk and lots of water and some interesting dish should do the trick.
flutist - where in florida do you live..it looked like almost all of FL was almost freezing also. I grrw up most of my life in FL (hence the nickname)...i went to UF for 8 yrs
I live in the Tampa area, Gatorgal. We had some pretty cool temperatures there for a couple of days. It was great!! :-) I love the cold. What part of GA are you in? I have some family up there in the Macon area.
flutist4Christ, Don't GIVE UP! Try new things...maybe this particular thing just isn't working for you. There are about a million different dieting methods to try out there. Just give it your all! And don't quit, because you surely won't lose if you do that.
Thank you so much for your encouragement!! I think I will try new things, just to keep it fresh. I don't want to fail this time.

Hi there, My name is Stephanie and I live in Jacksonville, FL. I work in HR and have been married for 12 years and we have 2 kids 9 & 5. I have been on and off again with my weight and after this past holiday I am OVER IT!!! I started yesterday watching my calories and portions and was able to get in a good cardio workout tonight.
You all seem like a good motivating and supporting group and I would love to be able to chat with you all....
Hope you don't mind!!

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I have been MIA for awhile. Starting at a new school this fall was rough trying to get use to new coworkers and my new bosses. But I think that I am finally adjusted and ready to get back on track. I have gained about 20 pounds since I was last on here. So I really could use some support and encouragement.
Hope this finds all you oldies but goodies doing well. Hi to the newbies. Looking forward to getting to know everyone again. I will check back in with you all sometime tomorrow to catch up with everyone.
Have a great evening!
Take care,
Kerry

Mo is still around, she's over "there" if you know what I mean. I think last time someone had to start a crazy rumor for her to come and visit us here.
I guess the thread's must always get busy this time of year, welcome to all the newbies. There were so many posts I don't think I can remember half today!
While cleaning today...I found a movie I borrowed from my friend. I thought I had thrown it away and even told my friend I would replace it. Now I don't have to. I really got a workout today from the cleaning too.
Joan, my living room def looks bare w/out the christmas decorations. Not as homey anymore. I will def miss the tree...
Someone asked about decorations...I use colored lights, candy canes and some balls. I make it REAL simple for myself, lol.
Tomorrow the satalite peeps are coming. So I also had to try and get things together for that. They said on the phone it might take 6 hrs...I hope not....
Talk tomorrow everyone.
Alicia
Kerry...welcome back, I was wondering about you also. Last I remembered one of your students had run off or something like that. Hope you join us again!
