:newyear: Happy New Year everyone! Any welcome to our You:bies - anyone new to You: On a Diet! :welcome3:

I'm taking my major You-turn tonight - cleaning out the house and getting ready to be back on track tomorrow.

I'm watching Biggest Loser tonight for some motivation - it's great that they started a new season on Jan. 1st! This season is all about teams, and I'm working on DH to be my team with me - we both need to lose a goodly amount, and I'm concerned about his blood sugar levels. So, he'll be following YOAD as well - we did it last year and had great results, but we just had a hard time staying on plan with my travel in June and then all the planning for the wedding in September. Then, we got back from the cruise in October, and never could get back into the swing of things.

But, that's all water under the bridge - time to move onward and upward!

Just a reminder to our YOU:bies - be sure to check out the Grocery List sticky up at the top of the forum - it has some great info that can help you to get started. In general, Smart Balance products are great, and when looking for bread, 100% "natural" whole wheat seems to be ones that don't have as much HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) in them. Trader Joes is the best place to find organic, low/no sugar condiments at reasonable prices - make a road-trip there if you have to (like I do - nearest one is 2 hours away, but it's worth the trip for my ketchup, BBQ sauce, pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce,....). Hmm, seems I have some grocery shopping to do soon!

So today I didn't hit my 3-meals-and-a-snack for BLD, but that was because we didn't eat breakfast til 10:30, then had a huuuuge lunch at 4pm. Just wasn't hungry at dinner time, so had a light snack around 8, and I'll get back at it tomorrow. I'm thinking yogurt, berries and granola for brekkie tomorrow, leftover risotto with some veg for lunch, and some fruit and cheese for a snack tomorrow.... not sure about dinner, but we've got some good options!

Bfl_Cat - I watched TBL tonight too, and did some mini-workouts during commercials - situps, push ups, step ups, etc. It's interesting with the teams, eh? I really should talk to BF about us being more of a team about our health - we don't talk about it as much as we could/should.

From the Dec thread... iwanawurkit - Congrats on getting your butt out of bed and to the water! That's a tough battle between working out and hitting snooze. :D Thanks for the encouragement, too.

I just finished my YOAD book last night. Whats really sticking in my brain right now is doing at least one automatic meal a day so I don't sit and obsess about what I'm gonna eat. Can anyone tell me if that has been a real success for you? I'm going to have to make different meals than whats laid out in their plan, I'll have to follow more of my BFL food, cause I make my family eat what I eat and there are just some things that will not fly in this house. Other than that, I'm hoping that following their plan for two weeks will be the kick start I need to get back on track.

Happy New Year everyone,
my house is now de*cluttered* as well. All the bad stuff gone gone gone. Scale is coming back down again as well..whew!
I walked my 30 mins during BL last night. I like the partners idea but I was wondering if I would rather be partnered with someone I love or a stranger? Right now dh and I are back at YOAD..he wasnt impressed with himself this holiday either. Never used to bother him..haha. We have our oldest Dds wedding this summer and our yougest graduates from college..two important events with lots of pictures.......I WILL NOT look this way...no way
Im off to the bus station to see my youngest off...it sure is going to be quiet around here. I think I will go for an nice walk this afternoon. I need to keep busy the next couple of days.
Have a good one!!

oh by the way ccmomof5 ~ the pick and stick is great!! I eat my steel cut oats for breakfast weekday mornings and then on weekends I will have either yogurt or eggs. (for the variety) Makes a huge difference when you dont have to t hink about it.

Happy New Year!

I have cleaned out the refrigerator. I am going to concentrate on one thing each week. This week my goal is to write down everything I eat. I will be able to see what I am eating and will be able to resist bad choices if I have to write it down.

My leg is still sore, so exercise will have to wait until the stitches come out.

Have a YOU! day everyone.

Hi I'm new to YOAD, I too am just finishing my Book!!!
I am wondering how you all clean out all the bad stuff, with remaining non YOAD family teenagers & hubby's living in same house. lol
I struggle more from the temptations of thier bad foods , not YOU friendly.
any of you going through this too. I know ultimately, it is up to me, to deal w the temptations and choose the healthier ways. (which I fully intend on doing, w support here on this forum) .

Hi Veronica

I make my family eat what I eat. I'm not gonna make them eat tofu or anything like that, I won't eat tofu either. I figure my style of eating is a healthy lifestyle that will benefit them if they can adopt those changes now rather than when one of the boys is 35 and faced with having a heartattack from eating poorly. My parents taught me to eat everything THEY placed on my plate and anytime I could eat all I want I better eat all I can cram in and when I was a child there wasn't a big push to eat healthy. So I tell them they'll thank me when they're older, and my husband doesn't care as long what he eats tastes good.

My teenager likes the soup that I make with the veggies. I found more success by introduces them to the dishes I was eating a little at a time. Now they prefer most of my YOAD approved dishes.

We had a little bit of snow overnight but I still got up and went to the gym this morning and the alarm woke me up!!!!! I must admit that I have more energy by getting my butt in gear and moving.

Good Morning

I have stayed on track for two days now. I have achieved my weekly goal each day and have written everything down that I have eaten. One minute, one hour, one day at a time.

Today I needed pick-up, some fruit and veggies. After my doctors appointment, I went to the grocery store. While shopping I started feeling light headed and a little shakey. I bought a Pria bar and a banana and ate half of each. I have decided I should have some kind of a snack in my purse for times like this.

I am in the process of automating b/l/s. For breakfast I will eat oatmeal, fruit, and milk. Lunch will be a sandwich/soup or soup/salad. Snack will be nuts, fruit and yogurt.

Currently my family still has a few treats leftover from the holidays. As they finish each bag I will not replace them, but I will bring healthy alternatives into our home. I place all their treats on the top shelf of the pantry, out of sight out of mind.

Have a YOU! day everyone.

Hi everyone! Nice to meet you and happy new year!

Newbie here - I've been on 6WBMO on and off for a couple of years. It works great - weight just drops like magic - but it's so incredibly restrictive and stringent that after a week or two I crash and burn. I just finished reading YOAD and almost wept from relief. I'm working on the all-or-nothing mentality that's been less than helpful. Still just getting started though, and I'm trying to ease my way in rather than do (yet another) cleaning of the fridge and pantry. Most of what we've already got in the house is fine to begin with (like I said, 6WBO is strict as hell.)

I have a question though - Oz/Roizen say to walk 30 minutes a day, no matter what. I'm coming down with an infection in my chest and I feel like crap. Does anyone know if walking is subject to illness? I worked out yesterday, did the strength training and spent about 45 minutes on the treadmill, but it was a struggle the whole time and I felt awful afterwards.

Looking forward to meeting y'all! Cheers.

Iwanawurkit asked "Jan.....hows the leg?"
The leg is doing better, stitches came out yesterday. My problem right now is work. After 8 hours on concrete my legs are aching. I going to try taking Aleve before work and see if that helps. I should be able to start exercising Monday. Good Luck with the scales today.

kuhljeanie ~ :welcome3:

I my opinion you should rest. Eat properly and drink lots of water. I have question what is 6WBMO?

I created a scrumptious breakfast this morning. I added 1 T Protein Powder, 1 T ground flaxseed, half a banana, 1/8 tsp of vanilla, 1 tsp brown sugar Splenda, and 1 tsp walnut crumbs to my oatmeal. This tasted similar to a Banana Bread. I am going to try adding different dessert type ingredients that I know are healthy to my regular bowl of oatmeal. I found a recipe for Pumpkin Pie oatmeal that I am going to try soon.

Have a YOU! day everyone.

Afternoon everyone. I just wanted to pop in and say hi. My husband and I started YOAD on MOnday, and so far so good. I cleaned out my fridge and pantry and geve the food to my brother who is in college and will eat anything ...lol. I will probably be lurking around this board a lot, as I need the extra help as a YOAD newbie. OK now back to planning next week's menu.

Please share the Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal recipe......please? wow, this year is starting off really well and I can see changes ahead for everyone! If you are sick and not feeling well, stay hydrated and try to attempt some movement. I know there are exercises for people in wheelchairs.....so maybe try to incooperate some of those if you can. Your body will let you know when you have done too much. I know the 'crud' is going around and I am trying to dodge it in my household by taking Airbornn (spelling) and increasing my vitamin C intake. WooHoo!!!! Welcome everyone!!!!

Happy Weekend everyone!

And a big WELCOME to our YOU:bies! :welcome:

I'm celebrating three days on track - and I'm feeling better already. I think I've lost most of my holiday bloat, but I'll give it a few more days, and then Monday I'll be weighing myself and measuring my stomach for my official starting stats. I'm going to chart these measurements for myself on the fridge to help keep me motivated.

DH is doing this with me as he needs to lose a bit as well. I plan to be trying several new recipes this weekend, and we are headed to Trader Joe's for supplies this afternoon!

Hope everyone has a good one, and a great YOU day!

Iwanawurkit ~ I am going to try the Pumpkin-Spice Oatmeal recipe tomorrow. Will post the recipe after I taste test it. The recipe is from Women's Health Magazine but I am going to make a few adjustments.

I have been on program for four days and have lost 3 pounds (I just had to take a peek). My official weigh-in is Monday. Bfl_Cat thanks for the reminder, I am going to take measurements today; chest, waist and hips.

Have a YOU! day everyone.

Thanks, everyone! Today I was SICK - completely congested, mostly in bed. So exercise was pretty much out of the question. 6WMBO is the 6 week body makeover - Michael Thurmond's plan. It's very restrictive, not meant to be anything other than for loss. There's a separate plan for maintenance, but I never got that far. Couldn't live with it.

Got to go - the baby's sick too, and he's FIGHTING bedtime! :)

Hey gals, the weekend was ok for me - not perfect, but better than it's been in weeks!

Any suggestions for veggies for dinners? DH and I really need to eat more, but we tend to stick to green beans or broccoli. I'd like a bit more variety to make them a bit more interesting.

Hi all - just popping in to say hi!

I've been doing ok with BLD Phase 1, and I'm getting ready to move onto Phase 2. Getting a little nervous about some of the things I'm going to have to pass on, like french fries, but it's going to be okay, and it's going to make a DIFFERENCE. My word for 2008 is TRY so that's just what I'm going to do. Perfection isn't necessary, but my best effort is!

Bfl_Cat - we steam carrots, broccoli, green beans. We bake sweet potatoes cut into "fries" with a little cinnamon and olive oil. We also do a lot of salads - various greens tossed with fruit (apple or pear, usually) and some cheese or oil-based dressings. Keep in mind that I'm doing BLD rather than YOAD, so I don't know if those are all "okay" for YOAD.

Hi Cindy - I just ordered a copy of one of the Moosewood cookbooks for the same reason, to get more veggies in. I'm pretty bored with steamed cauliflower/broccoli/green beans too. I made a spinach and leek tart for an X-mas dinner at my SIL's house which turned out great, but I don't know if the crust I used (store-bought) is YOAD-friendly. Probably not. If I can figure out a healthy way to make pastry crusts, the world will be mine! Maybe there's a way to use crushed nuts and/or oat flour. Hmm. I'm still at home sick, so I've got some time to think about it (if I can tear myself away from HGTV for a few minutes.) :)

mmmm I eat so many different veggies now on YOAD.. when I go to the grocery store I look for the colored veggies as well as the green ones. Mix them all up into a stir fry..or just roast them with garlic and olive oil. Right now im on a mushroom kick,,,Ive tried crimini and tonight Im mkaing portabella pizza mushrooms. Instead of the crust being whole wheat its going to be the mushroom cap...mmmmmmmm sounds good dosnt it?
Ill let you know how it turns out.

Hi there!

I have been at 3FC for a long time, but haven't really had any success. I have been a calorie counter, but know that I really want to get healthy as well as thin. I have a copy of YOAD, but I am not very far along in the book, but I started today anyway, figuring I will modify along the way.

Just wanted to say Hi!!

Hey Sandi - welcome to our little group! We call newcomers here YOU:bies!

The book is a bit to get through - you may want to consider jumping to the food chapter - 12, maybe (don't have my book in front of me), to read about the specifics of the food plan. But, do make sure that doesn't stop you from reading the whole book - lots of great motivating facts in there!

We have a sticky for grocery shopping that should help you to get the feel for what we eat. I like this plan because once you've got the hang of it, it's pretty easy to stay on track.

I got derailed last year by some travel to the Pacific, my wedding and my honeymoon, and so although I had great success in the first half of the year (lost 30#), I unfortunately gained most of it back when I started eating the wrong way for the second half of the year.

But there are a number of gals who have had great sustained success in the past year. Patti, p.a. here, has lost 45#, and MrsQuadCrew, who hasn't posted here here in a while, lost about 70# or so following this plan.

Thanks for the veggie ideas so far gals - I never think to roast or grill veggies, and that would help to make them better in my book. So would some sort of tart - keep working on that oat flour, or whole wheat flour thing - I would love to be able to make chicken/broccoli "pie" or something to that effect.

I bought some whole wheat pastry flour today - Dr. Weil featured a ww banana nut bread recently that I intend to try.

Well, duh!! Why didn't I think of that!! Last night I flipped right to chapter 12. Thanks!!!!

I had a mini meltdown at 5:00 when I got home from work. It wasn't pretty. But then I went to water aerobics and ate a healthy dinner. So I guess I did a YOU-turn! I think the problem was that I let myself get too hungry...lesson learned.

Hi Sandy! Welcome! I'm new too - I've got about 60 lbs to lose, and I've never been on a plan that looked this easy. Not sure I trust it - I've spent so many years with this mentality that if it doesn't hurt, it probably won't work. Bizarre, huh? :)

Hi Cindy - what kind of shortening substitute does Weill suggest? I'm having a dickens of a time getting a savory crust right without butter. If I'm making something sweet I can use apple sauce, which is fine (although flaky, it ain't). Different flours seem to be less problematic than finding a good shortening.

I'm still sick, but I went in to work today. I wish we didn't have a pre-alloted number of days to be sick for the year. Doesn't make much sense...oh well!

Cheers, everyone!

Hello gals!

Sandi, you make a very valid point about learning that lesson - the need to plan. I always carry some sort of higher-fiber bar with me in my purse - not the ideal thing to be eating, but better than most of the options out there. This diet can be very easy in the confines of your own home, but you'll find that when you're out in the rest of the world, it can get quite tough to find foods that fit our plan.

That reminds me - I need to check the Panera Bread Co. site to see what I can eat there. DH is addicted to eating out, and will push to do so any chance he gets. So, I arm myself with the info ahead of time so that if we do eat someplace, I already know what I can have.

I think the banana bread doesn't have any sort of shortening component in it - not a flaky baked good. I'll check, but I don't remember anything like that. I wonder, though, if his site gives any suggestions for making stuff like that - I'll look later - it's offline right now.

Hi Sandi, welcome! im pretty sure there is a section is the book called the 99 second version?? it gives you a plan to follow as you read the book. The book sure opened my eyes!! I have lost 45 this year and Im not done yet. This is the first time ever I got thru either the summer or christmas without falling off track and gainning everything back.....
Cindy I made pork meat pies for christmas (my dh has to wathc his cholestrol though so theywere a treat) well I didnt want to mess with the recipe or it wouldnt be like his mom's..haha so I made the regular crust but I rolled the pie dough out veryyyyyyy thin! I figured it would cut the calories a bit and not change the taste. Im not recommending doing this all the time Like I said it was a treat. I think Ive seen crust recipes on the Core board which is similiar to YOAD. You may want to check it out.

Hey everyone - where are you all? YOU:bies, we want to hear how you're doing - are you having difficulty figuring out what to eat, or where to find certain foods? Anyone have any questions?

In just a few short days back on track, I've come to realize that I really need to ramp up my exercise. Not everyone needs to do that, but my body seems to only respond to hard workouts in addition to dieting. A sad but true fact I have to face.

So, I plan to get my backside back in the gym starting Monday. I'll start slow so as to avoid any injuries (I have a bad knee, and I get shin splits easily). I plan to start lifting weight again, and building up my cardio beyond just walking.

:woohoo: Kim - keep up the good work!

I'm slowly making changes to my diet. I have been reading labels and really thinking about what I am eating. I am starting by eliminating high fructose corn syrup and anything hydrogenated.

I am giving myself some slack because we moved from TX to NC, went home for the holidays, and I just started a new job all within the last month....my treadmill is buried somewhere in this house....

My first goal for YOAD is to uncover the treadmill and go grocery shopping on Saturday.

Happy Saturday everyone! I'm SO glad that work week is over - my first full one in about a month, and it was a killer! This job is causing me more stress than I had anticipated, and I am definitely a stress eater. That makes things more difficult, because sometimes it is just so hard to control those urges!

This weekend is all about house cleaning for me. I really need to get things organized - I still have wedding presents in our living room! Figuring out where things will go is the challenge - the house is not that big, and all of our storage spots are filled. Maybe time for a new shelf unit in the basement...

I cooked for 5 of the last 6 days this week - pretty good considering the fact that DH always wants to eat out. It was a lot of work for me - planning, cooking and cleaning, but from a health standpoint, definitely worth it. I finally used my rice cooker this week - it is handy, but seems to make less rice out of a cup of uncooked than I'm used to. I plan to try it on SC oats this weekend. It is handy to just put the stuff in and forget about it though.

I'm up so early this morning because DH left about a 1/2 hour ago to go give blood. Funny, he gives at least 4-5 times a year (maybe more), but I'm one of those people who can't give - my vein shuts down after about 5 minutes. Anyway, he's gone, and I've got my coffee and am on here!

Well, you gals have a great YOU: weekend. I'm in the process of reading YOU: Staying Younger - got it from the library, and am finding out a lot about the aging process and how to slow it down. Check this out if you can.

Still doing tai ji...and getting better at it too. Im surprised. Last thursday I walked out of there in a sweat...
Housecleaning for me today too..and laundry. My two favourite things..

Hello everyone!

I reckon I am a YOUbie hehe! I've been reading up on this forum for the past few days and checking out the YOAD website and after looking at the sample grocery list posted here. I have decided that it's the foods I am already eating basically, so how cool is that? I don't have any steel-cut oats in fact, I don't even know what they are or how to go about getting them, but I can sure google! I'm the google Queen! LOL! I usually use the country crock light butter, so I'll have to lable read and see what is better or the same with the Smart balance and skim milk will take getting used to, but I can try. I don't have the book yet. I don't get paid until around the 20th so I'll have to check the Library until then and also read up here and on the YOAD site. So far y'all have been very helpful so I guess I'll stay. :) I've had trouble "fitting in" at a couple of other diet boards here so finger's crossed with this one.

A lil' intro: I'm a 41 yr old SAHM shacked up and living in Sin with my boyfriend of 6 yrs (In March). We met online. :) I'm a Southern Girl born and raised and he's a damn Yankee, hehe! I have a thing for Yankee's I think...Anywho, I am hoping to get a job, pay on some student loans and get back into college this yr as well as drop about 80 lbs, become certified to teach Aerobics and be a Personal Trainer. I haven't worked in 7 yrs so this will be a HUGE change for me but I am so ready. I've been overweight since the birth of my son 14.5 yrs ago but I've been obese for the last 4 and there are SOOO many reasons why this is unacceptable. I am Type 2 diabetic as is my Mother and she's just falling a part and I don't want to follow in her footsteps. I've been a member of 3FC since Oct 05 but left for a bit, came back and couldn't remember my name or pw, so I made a new account and have been here every since. This is my favorite place on the web! :D

I do have a question though, I didn't see yellow Summer squash or Zuchinni on the list, are they allowed? They are my fav veggies. Also, is the Whole wheat or Multi grain pastas allowed? We are big spaghetti eaters in this house, I mean at least once a week and that's usally what I eat, the Barilla Pasta(Spaghetti) Multi grain PLUS AlA Omega-3. There's like 17 grams of protein per serving. VERY filling. It also has TBL lable on it.

Anywho, just wanted to say Hello and introduce myself. :)

I have another question as well. I have been doing low carb and calorie counting and I was wondering if you do that on YOAD as well? About how many calories and carbs do y'all go for in a day? I track myself on fitday. I can't wait to get YOU on a diet and YOU staying young!!!

Rizeninme
01-13-2008, 12:43 AM
Hi diva,

As far as the veggies go, you can have any veggies that you want, and yes, any whole wheat/multi-grain pasta is allowed- no white flour. As far as the calories and carbs go, I don't count mine, but it's never a bad idea to track them, especially with something like fit day.

Since you're the google queen, search for "real age" and you will find the website for the authors of the book YOAD, and there is an awesome recipe section on that site.

Hopefully you can get the book at the library- it explains everything very well.

What I like about YOAD is that it's not really a diet in the traditional manner, but rather a guideline of healthy foods to eat and what not to eat. It's been a little hard for me to get that because I have been "dieting" for so many years, but in my opinion, the focus of the book is on your overall health, not how many carbs or calories you eat every day, which I really respect.

BfL_Cat
01-13-2008, 03:49 PM
Diva - welcome to our group, and congrats on finding the YOAD program. Rizeninme is right, all veggies are "allowed", and pasta must be 100% whole wheat flour - there can't be any "enriched wheat flour" in the blend. Whole wheat pasta takes some getting used to, so try some different brands until you find one you like. I actually found that a local store brand, Hannaford, is the one I like best around here.

As for as this program being low carb, I'd have to say that low carb, in the sense of Atkins, is really one thing this can't be. Part of the principles of YOAD is that by eating carbs that are very high fiber, you will stay satisfied longer and will not be hungry or crave foods you shouldn't be eating. I'm actually eating more carbs on this program than any before, and enjoying it SO much. Whole wheat english muffins are one of my favorites - they are great with natural peanut butter on them, or as a bun for a black-bean burger...

I think it's best to approach this plan with a daily calorie count in mind, and then fill in the blanks with the foods you want to eat. Don't try to eat too much of one type of food or another -just let it happen with normally structured meals.

Just one comment about FitDay - be careful on their food counts - I tend to enter in my own "custom foods" from package labels, so I know I'm getting a more accurate count.

I am 71 and fat. My ki?ds are having a 50th anniversary party for me in December. I want so badly to look great by then. I had determined to exercise every day and then I feel and broke my foot and can not even drive, let alone walk on a treadmill. I am discouraged and down right now. Anyone in my circumstances and with any advice? 71Fat

Yeah I usually enter in my own "custom foods" from package labels too, for the same reason's. Pretty much the only carbs that go into me are the good ones except for TOM when chocolate is a must have, lol! I am STILL trying to get used to having carbs now. I'm still scared to have my Whole grain breads because of the carbs, so this will take some getting used to.

Fat7171 I am so sorry about yor foot. Can ya sit in a chair and so some upper body strength training? Something is better than nothing I supose. Hopefully it'll heal soon and you can get back to walking and whatnot. :) Good luck on the YOAD front.

71fat-

I have a sister who is disabled and in a wheelchair (she cannot walk) and she does chair aerobics or seated aerobics, and we both do water aerobics. For her they have a machine that lifts here in and out of the pool, but once she's in the water she can stand on the side of the pool by herself as long as she can hold on, and she can swim a little. So don't be discouraged- if you're willing to try something new, there are certainly things you can do.

I would recommend the seated aerobics until your cast comes off and then water aerobics because it's a lot of fun and very east on your joints.

There are several DVD's out there for seated aerobics- you can find them to buy from amazon.com and to rent from netflix.

Hey YOUbies!!!! Just checking in before I start the work week!!!! Did someone ask about steel cut oats! Once you try them, you will never go back to the processed ones!!!!! They stick with you longer than the regular and they have fiber galore!

Good Morning everyone! Down a couple of lbs this morning! :carrot: This is a surprise being that I caved to the chocolate yesterday.

Anywho, I was asking about the steel cut oats. Where does one find them? I am guessing it REAL oatmeal and not the flavored kind I am so fond of. I supose I can add things to it to make it taste good. I love the little instant oatmeals but they don't really fill me up for very long so I don't indulge in them too often. I'd rather have a bowl of it though than I would ice cream. I'm like that with Lima beans too. My man thinks I am weird.

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been so quiet the last few days - what I thought was just a bad cold is now in week #3, and the right side of my face has been really, really sore. I think I've got a pretty bad sinus infection - will actually go see a doctor so I can start feeling better. I miss feeling good enough to exercise!!!

Welcome Diva! I'm also having a tough time losing the "diet" mentality. Staying off the scale has been hard - I used the scale to keep myself honest. Now I use my pants for that. :)

Happy Monday ladies!

Jean - sorry to hear about your sinus infection, but good that it can be treated.

71 - do you mind me asking your first name? I'd rather call you that than your screen name! Welcome to our group! Glad you found YOU - I think you're going to like it.

Diva - SC oats can be found at most bulk food areas of a grocery store, or at health food stores. They look like broken up pieces of brown rice, and take about 45 minutes to cook on the stove top. You can definitely doctor them up with fruit, nuts, sf syrup, you name it. They have a very different texture than rolled oats which are used in those instant oatmeal packets. They definitely will stay with you longer - like all morning! Gotta love that fiber!

Hey Kim, Patti and Denise!

I had a pretty good weekend - but have been reminded of the havoc a very high fiber diet causes to my digestive system when I jump right into it. Ease into the fiber gals!

I made some ww banana bread this weekend - probably too much honey in the recipe, but I thought it was too sweet, so would cut back if I made it again. But, it was yummy, and DH appreciated it.

I also made some homemade hummus in my new food processor. A bit too much garlic, but it was a hearty snack, along with ww pita. We still have lots of that left! Much cheaper than buying it!

I was lazy and had Boboli pizza twice this weekend - the whole wheat ones of course. I really need to cook my meals on the weekends, but I was lazy yesterday. Too much football and I had my nose in a book.

Gotta get back to work - you gals have a good one!

Cindy Id like your recipe for hummus...i buy it and its way too expensive.
Ease into the fiber...good advice....ohhh I had stomach cramps the first week and the sugar withdrawal gave me a HUGE headache for about 4 days. Tells you something dosnt it?
Diva diving intot he choc is ok but just make sure its at least 70 percent coco and limit yourself to one tiny piece...
Hope you feel better soon Jean
Denise tell your sister about tai ji...apparantly there is a form for people in wheelchairs..its very good for circulation and keeps your joints moving. I love it!
71...(yes we do need a name for you haha) do this for yourself not for your kids..they love you for who you are..not what.. as for exercising? well Im sure if you google exercises for sitting down you will find some good ideas.
Good luck!

Good Morning

I have been MIA for the last week, no time for the computer. I have lost 5 pounds in two weeks :carrot:. Good choices are made one minute, one hour, one day at a time, creating a great new life.

I had two YOU! turns this week. Once after my wallet was lost/stolen and a party at our house. Neither time did I make really bad choices just not the same choices that I had been making.

My legs are recovering very well. My doctor is very happy. I start clean-up treatments in two weeks. I am hoping the purple pigment in my skin where the vein is dissolving will be gone soon.

Today I resurrected my Fit Day Food Journal. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the nutrition information for my Banana Nut Oatmeal with 1 cup of 1% Milk; 405 cal, Fat 22%, Protein 33%, Carbohydrates 45%, 14 g Fiber, 32 g Protein, Calcium 439 mg, and 9 g Iron. This is one well balanced meal :D.

Have a YOU! day everyone.

5 pounds less of me this week!!!! Yay!!!! Good to see progress but I just needed to kick my butt in gear!!! Yes......ease into increasing the fiber, for sure.! It works as good as the diet tea I found that will make you go if your corked up. Feeling great and I found swim socks for water aerobic classes. I am going tonight so I need to get my dinner in before I head out! Just wanted to report in.

Hi everyone! Just a short note (I may have some more time this afternoon but am kind of slammed now.) I did go to the doctor and have acute sinusitis, so as soon as I hear back from the pediatrician about the safety of the antibiotics I was prescribed and breastfeeding, I'm on the road to recovery. CAN'T WAIT! I really miss how good I feel when I exercise regularly. It's weird but I'm actually missing exercise.

Cheers!

Hi gals! Hey Jan - good to hear from you again. Kim - wow, you are really on a roll - keep up the good work! Jeanie - good news about the doctor visit and hope you're recovered soon.

Patti - the hummus was pretty simple - 2 cans chickpeas, zest from one lemon, 2 cloves of garlic, 1/3 c. fresh flat-leafed parsley, the juice from that same lemon, 2 T. of olive oil and 1/4 c. of tahini (sesame seed paste). All mixed together in the food processor. Next time I might try roasting my garlic - it's a bit strong, and I think I will leave out the parsley - it tasted a bit "green" for my liking.

I've been quite good food-wise for the past few days, but my weight and waist are not budging. But, I have to admit that I am not doing any walking or other exercise - this weather and darkness just has me feeling so lazy! I really need to shake that off!

Did the YOU:bies all measure your waists when you started? If so, have you seen any difference already? And if you didn't please do so - remember, Dr. Oz feels this number is more important than your weight in charting your progress.

Good afternoon everyone. :)

I've been doing pretty good staying OP and exercising. The Water weight from TOM steadily coming off. I am peeing like a mad woman! I think I am getting a lot of exercise just running back and forth to the dang bathroom! LOL!:D

It'll make it easier to keep doing them that way huh? hehe Mine seems to be the Aerobic's and dancing in my living room. I am getting a treadmill soon though and will begin doing the c25k thingy. I have never ran before so it should be interesting. :exercise:

The cold weather makes me just wanna stay snuggled under a blanket on the couch all day. i am forcing myself to get up and exercise 5 days a week. Hopefully it'll become a habbit.

Hey everyone-

Good news- I found the treadmill! LOL! I unburied it, had my DH tighten up all the bolts (it was a little wobbly from the move) plugged it in and......well, that's as far as I got. Sigh. I will get back into the exercise groove I WILL!

I did notice that there is an evening water aerobics class at one of the gyms here by our house. My DH has offered to go with me, so I am going to do that on Monday. I used to do water aerobics last year and really enjoyed it. I do much better with a workout partner, so I think this will be good.

BUT, even thought I get a big fat "F" in exercise for the week, my diet or should I say "lifestyle change" is going very well. I am focusing on eating better, more fruits and veggies, and more water. That part is going great. I haven't weighed myself in a long time, but I did just find the scale too!

P.A.- Thanks for recommending Tai Ji- I have never heard of it, but will definitely research that. My sister does a chair aerobic DVD and likes it, but is bored with it. There is really not much out there for seated workouts :D

Thanks for the well-wishing everyone! I'm going to take my horse-sized antibiotics and hope for the best. It's amazing how easy it is to feel okay about eating crap when you're feeling crappy. It wasn't nearly this much of a struggle when I was exercising...doc told me not to work out until the antibiotics are all gone. It makes sense, it just sucks!

Hi Denise, I'm trying to think of other types of aerobic exercise - do you have access to a rowing machine? That can be a pretty brutal workout. I used to belong to a gym at a rowing club and there were some buff people in there.

Rizeninme
01-17-2008, 06:28 PM
Hi Kuhljeanie-

Because my husband is in the Army, I have access to several gyms here on post where we live, and it's free. There is every type of machine you can think of. The problem is that I have every kind of excuse I can think of for not going. I am such a SLACKER!!! I have tried a rowing machine before, but it's been awhile.

I am actually excited about the water aerobics class on Monday- I really liked water aerobics when I did them last year. They have an evening class three times a week- M/W/F so that is my goal- I am going to start with three classes a week and try to walk on my treadmill three times a week.

I've been thinking about doing Curves on my lunch break, but I'm not sure. I had a Curves membership for about a year and probably only went 20 times. I liked it because of their "No men, no mirrors" concept, and because they were so friendly and it was easy to do- you just go from machine to machine and don't really have to think too much about what you do next.

Hey gals - sounds like somehow we need to motivate each other to get moving! Dr. Oz says that all we need to just start with 30 minutes of walking a day - and remember, it can be broken down into 2 15-minute segments, or 3 10-minute segments.

How about we start some sort of exercise challenge? Anybody in?

Me again - a thread on the whole foods forum reminded me to mention this to all of you:

If you are having issues with gas because of all the fiber this diet is having you eat, make sure you try to get in *probiotic* yogurt into your diet every day - it will definitely help. It can be hard to find - I use the Breyer's Light because I can find it locally, even if the sugar is a bit high (from fruit though). Anyone else know of any other probiotic brands that are good?

And if the yogurt doesn't work, you can take a probiotic - Jeanie can tell us more about that.

Thanks Cindy - as a newbie to 3FC, it's exciting to make my name because of successfully overcoming a heartbreaking episode of farting. So inspirational! :^: I use Mega Flora and they work really well. My gas was legendary and I can't say I miss it.

I'd LOVE to do a 30 min walking challenge, just as soon as I'm cleared by my doc. I'm supposed to wait until I'm through the horse pills (another friggin week.) Rize - you can DO it, girlfriend! It's such a struggle getting my lazy a$$ into the gym, but I always feel so good when I'm done, and everything else in my life seems to go better when I'm exercising. I've got a gym at work so I don't have any excuses either (or won't, once I'm healthy.)

Cindy Im in an exercise challenge already and would love to add to one here...Im on my way to two straight weeks of exercise..no day off yet!! In fact in three weeks I have only taken one day off..go me! I could use every excuse in the book not to exercise..its so friggin cold here,,snow,,storms etc...but thats no excuse! Ive discovered walking around my house..its still walking. I use my weights while I do it too to tone my arms. I dont have to buy anything..pay any fees,,I can do it when its convenient for me..I can watch tv (if its a half hour show I know when Im done) ,,,I have no excuse not to do this. I do prefer to be outside and when its not freezing, snowing or storming I do go out... Im also still doing the tai ji thing..my joints thank me for that one. Keeps them moving and is good for the arthritus.
Havnt found the old measuring tape yet..and the store didnt have any? But I did weigh myslef and Im down 4 this week...one more to get back to my 45 gone...I can do this!!

Good Morning Ladies!Congratz on keeping up with exercise. You are all putting me to shame.

We decided on burger King for dinner last night and although I could have chose grilled chicken Salad, out my mouth came Whopper, fries and a shake!:o So I ate it. I went WAY over calories and I felt like poo for doing it. Then I wake up this morning and my tummy is KILLING and and I am thinking y'all can figure out the rest. My body is rebeliing against fast food. I think that's cool but a painful lesson for me, lol!

Anywho, back on track today. Apparently this wedding thing is REALLY going to happen. I wasn't so sure for a while there....The fututre in laws up in PA are steadily planning things so I need to get on the ball! It's going to be a a family camp ground that we go to and celebrate every 4th of July, up in the Pocono mountains and is an outside wedding. I am going to get me a cute little bathing suit and teehirt/ shorts with bride on them because we are doing a pool party/cookout reception and below is the dress I am aiming for. Not doing fancy shoes. What's the point? It's outside and I can't see myself climing up a grassy hill in high heels lol! THAT would be comical.:D They have cute bridal tennis shoes too, but I thik Flip-flops would work...

Add a new ticker to my signature. I took some advice I saw on this past Monday's Oprah. I believe it was the lady that had lost over 225 pounds....she said it was so overwhelming to look at all the weight she needed to lose, she set small goals and just kept resetting as the goals were reached because the big picture (no pun intended) was just too overwhelming. Paraphrased. Where is everyone? Too busy working out to post....maybe.

I HATE my arms and haven't worn sleevless anything in about 2 yrs now. My legs seems to tone themselves up just through cardio alone so I don't have to work them too much so I am going to do upper body strength training 3 days a week from here on out until I hit goal, so hopefully by July, I'll be halfway presentable, lol! Roni, I got married at the end of this past September, and although I wore pumps for my ceremony, as soon as it was over, the flip-flops went on!

I also had a reception dress - my wedding dress was pretty formal and heavy, and I knew I'd want to dance and be comfortable, so I found a great lace cocktail dress to change into. But, I think your dress #1 will work great - I made sure my wedding dress had sleeves, which was part of what made it so hot!

Did you know that there is a "brides to be" thread on here? You may want to check in on them from time to time. Not much talk about losing weight though, mostly about wedding stuff (which, of course, is the most important stuff!)

I'm still here, chugging along. I've still not exercised at all - not sure what I need to do to motivate myself. Wish me luck!

I have been cooking a lot lately, which is always a good thing - much healthier meals where I can control ingredients and portion sizes.

Patti - you are in Central time? You're in Western Ontario? Somehow I was thinking you were around Ottawa.... Oh well, they say the brain is the first thing to go!

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been away so long. Between work, classes, and my little dude, I hardly have time to breathe! We're starting to get ready for his 1st birthday party in two weeks.

CONGRATULATIONS DIVA!!! I got married this past October, and I'm all for comfortable shoes. My dress was floor-length so I just got wore ballet shoes (not ballet flats, but actual ballet shoes) and it was great. You're going to look beautiful!!! I'm so excited for you!

I'm restarting YOAD at the end of this week. This time I'm getting smarter, and I got a copy of the Beck diet solution (cognitive behavioral therapy) to help me stay on the plan like a grown-up. She advocates spending the first two weeks just getting ready, so I'm doing the whole thing day by day before really engaging with the food plan.

Congrats to everyone who's rocking their exercise plans! I've committed to walk/run a half marathon in May and training officially started last week. (so good to finally be over that &%*&ing sinus infection!!!). Wish me luck!

Cheers all!

Hey everyone,
Im still working the program...food is good and exercise is still on track. I journal what I do each day and so far this month Ive only missed 3 days. Some of the days I did tai ji I also walked so it sort of made up for those days off..in my mind anyways. haha
This weekend I joined a small challenge to get thru the weekend without a gain..and I did it. Im working hard to keep the loss off till my weigh in on thursday and then have another OP weekend. Its just too frustrating to lose,,then gain on the weekend...then have to lose it agin plus take a friend or two with it...its like yo yoing..and working twice as hard to get this weight off. Once is hard enough.....
Diva glad you getting the book.it will open your eyes believe me..
Cindy its just another day for me..im not into football and niether is dh thank god!
Kim sounds funny dosnt it..but you really do need to keep up a certain amount of calories or your body goes into starvation mode and starts to hoard the calories you eat. Eat enough to lose weight..who would have thunk it!@!

Hey everyone! still waiting for me book...sigh... I am not the most patient person so I am getting a little ill since it was supposed to be here yesterday. I'm doing ok staying OP but I have screwed up a couple of days, and exercise? forget about it! LOL! I DID do exercises during the commercial breaks watching The Biggest loser last night. That was fun and I worked up a good little sweat. Also ordered the Jillian Micheals 5 DVD exercise thinga-ma-jig, so she will be kicking my :censored: real soon!

p.a. - Good job staying on track! you go girl!

kuhljeanie - Thank you so much and :congrat: to you too on your marriage and little one. :)

I am gonna get crap for him and good stuff for me, lol! I have gotten them eating mostly what I do for dinner now. I will fully convert them one day! ;) Jess did good last night. he watched TBL with me and was acting like Jillian when I was exercising. it was funny!
