Hi Sandy! :welcome: It is nice to have you join us! It will be slow here for the rest of the week, but next week a few of the regulars who are on vacation will be back, and posting too, so it should pick up. I see you are in Virginia. What part? I have a good friend in Hopewell, outside of Richmond. Wow, 8 pounds is a GREAT start! Way to go! :bravo:

Hi all. Oh boy a new month and a new start....
Welcome Sandy, Congrads on your weight loss.... Glad you came to join us.
Monet-Hope you had a great day....
Bob- I loved your lasagna. We've got a ton left. I'll have to freeze a bunch. Thanks again for the recipe.
Off to bed... Have a good night all.

Happy New Year to all! I have been busy all day and no time to read or write! Hubby is leaving tomorrow for the month on business to Fargo, ND and not looking forward to their extreme cold. We spent all day doing laundry and packing so he can leave early in the morning.
Welcome Sandy! I am just learning this new way of eating so I will be watching you for tips since you seem to have it down pat!
The mini-trampoline is great! I have been on it twice and my 16 year old daughter tried it too! I was winded after only 3 minutes so it will definitely take some time to build up on. This one is a little larger and "softer" than the last one I had and I really like that. My goal is to get up to 20 - 25 minutes a day. Maybe that will help with the blood sugar levels and weight loss!
Did everyone eat their blackeyed peas for good luck today??? I did! :carrot:

Morning! I slept like a log! It felt good. Just finished my espresso (gotta  that man of mine..) and am ready to face the day! I have to unload the kiln (I hope it all turned out well!) and then glaze and load it back up again.
JAKE: You bet I had my blackeyed peas yesterday! Brown rice for riches too! And Collard greens for greenbacks! And as my kids add, Ham for happiness! :) Your poor hubby! Fargo must be like living in a freezer! Yuck!
TONI: Yeah, pack that lasagna up into serving size pieces and freeze it! Great for a quick meal!

Morning all! Got hubby off on his trip to the great white north! The high there yesterday was -14 and today it is getting all the way up to 5! He is so not looking forward to spending a month up there.
Bob- I still want to make your lasagne. I saw on another post that you say you put all the uncooked noodles on the bottom of the pan. What do you find works best - ww or Dreamfield or what?
Monet - glad you got some rest. Sometimes it takes the body reaching its limit and saying enough is enough! Glad you got your New Years food traditions taken care of as did I. I think that is a southern thing!
Here's hoping we all have a wonderful year of luck, wealth and weight loss and health!:trampo:

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU SUGER BUSETERS.
Glad to be back!
Whew, seems like I have been gone forever. Ended up taking Monday off also. So 11 days was a long time off.
The Holidays were good. Just went to dinner with a few friends on NYE. Fell asleep on the couch around 11:30 and the dog woke us up barking at the noises around 12:05. Got up and went to bed. Exciting aren't we!
Well back to Sb today. I told my DD that I do better on SB than WW so she can do which ever she wants, but I have to get back on track. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the scale this morning. My pants are so tight I can hardly breathe. I really wanted towear my sweat pants to work today. :fr:
Monet, I thought you might get a break from the kiln since the holidays are over. Guess not. I guess I will be poor, unhappy & unlucky this year. I did not have any black eyed peas. I did have a bite of purple cabbage while cutting it up for salads.
Sandy, welcome to our group. 8 lbs is awesome. I think that is how I started my first week. Keep going in the right direction.
Toni, hope you had a nice holiday. How many days before your son comes home?
Jaque, I always think about that movie Fargo when someone mentions ND. I bet it will be extremley cold there. Hope DH packed some warm clothes. Good job on the trampoline. I would probably fall off.
Bob hope you are all well by now.
I will try to go back and read last month's board to catch up. Have a great SB day.

Hello All !
I am new to the site as of this morning. Thanks to Monet for directing me here. I am awaiting the arrival of my SB book, but need to start today eating
better. I believe I have already made some shopping faux-pas'.
I bought Ragu light/no sugar added spaghetti sauce, but it still says 6grams
of sugar per serving on the jar. Is this legal?
I do think I found the correct pasta. It is Heartland Whole grain pasta.
I have been trying to follow what I have read online for the last four days while I wait on my book.
I bought Post whole grain shreaded wheat - no sugar at all
Fat Free milk
A variety of cheeses
Chicken breasts
Imitation crab for salads
lettuce
broccoli, peppers, pickles, cauliflower(no white veggies at all)
Nature's Own whole grain sugar free bread
Low Glycemic Peanut butter
Low Carb Wraps - 1 gram of sugar
eggs
turkey bacon
Does this look okay? Any suggestions? I purchased the SB shopping guide and it is supposed to arrive with my book sometime next week.
Thanks and it is wonderful to meet you all. I hope to become a friend.

SOLLY! Welcome back, and Happy New Year to you! I think we ALL need to get on plan here! I hope BOB is up to driving the wagon! I need a harness and seat belt to keep me on it! I was about as bad as you. I think I crawled in bed by 12:30 on New Years! I totally missed the crazy kids getting on the roof and drinking Champagne!

TABITHA: :welcome3: So glad you came on in! :) Your list looks pretty good, with a few exceptions. First, the spaghetti sauce is fine if it has no added sugar. Remember that high fructose corn syrup is sugar as is dextrose. In fact be suspicious of any 'ose'! :) The six grams of sugar in there are from the tomatoes, and a naturally occurring fructose. That is ok. You will find that on canned vegetables and fruits the sugar count will reflect the natural fructose, and is ok. On your list, check your imitation crab meat. It is often full of starches to bind it and the carb count can be quite high. Some white veggies are ok. Like Cauliflower, and turnips, and radishes. (ok, they are white INSIDE! :) ) On the cheeses it is good to pick low fat ones if you can. I never bother with low carb peanut butter. I just get the natural stuff with nothing but salt added. And with wraps, I use the whole wheat ones. If you like the low carb ones, they are ok, but if you find you like the whole wheat ones better, you can go with them instead. Be careful with the pickles, just because they are high sodium and may make you retain fluids. Drink plenty of water to help combat that. Any pasta made with 100% durum wheat semolina is ok. Whole wheat stuff is an added plus. Just make sure there is no 'enriched' flour in it. That is a nice way of saying white flour! I use Nature's Own whole wheat bread, but not the sugar free. The sugar content in the regular is ok. I like that they use brown sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

My name is Amy, and I started SB today! I am hoping to lose about 30 lbs before my vacation to Myrtle Beach this June. I have previously lost about 40lbs via Weight Watchers, but I'm looking for a change (and I'm tired of recording everything). Plus, I want to eat healthier, not just lose weight! So far today I've had:
Breakfast:
Post bite-size shredded wheat with cinnamon and 2% milk (I will buy skim milk when this half gallon runs out)
1 scrambled egg
Snack: 1 orange (eaten 2 hours after breakfast)
Lunch: Homemade veggie soup (made with all legal ingredients (too many to mention) and 12 thin Triscuits with Laughing Cow light cheese spread
Later today I plan to have some celery sticks with almond butter (natural) and possibly an apple if I get hungry before dinner. Dinner will probably be some sort of salad and a baked sweet potato with butter.
Does that look OK? I may eat a chicken breast instead of a baked sweet potato if I get home and don't feel like waiting for the potato to bake (they take forever!)

Hey, guys. How was everyone's New Year's? Mine was boring, but at least I got a paid day off, lol. I made a big meal..pork chops, cabbage, blackeye peas, and fried squash with onions. Bloated today because of it though, ah well. The past couple months I've been REALLY slacking on exercise. Only doing an occasional workout instead of several a week. So that is one of my resolutions. Yesterday I did the 4 mile tape(Leslie Sansone) since I was home and had time. Today nothing(sigh). Tomorrow will probably be the Walk Strong tape which is 30 min. I gotta get these 5 holiday pounds off. BOB- I can't update any photos right now since I don't have internet at the house anymore. Only use the computer at work now. I would love to show you how tall Boogie is getting. He's a skinny bean pole. Ashley is catching up to me. And I'm 5'8" and she will be 12 in Feb. Robby has lost alot of weight over the past 4 months. He's gone from a 36 to a 32. And of course without giving it much effort! And I'm a little thinner than my avatar/profile pic. I gotta run..I actually started this post over an hour ago! Busy day...

Oh my gosh I just got on the scale. I'm up to 191.5 and I'll be weighing in on Wed. so this was the day I got it over with. I'm done eating junk. I've ate from thanksgiving till yesterday. I'm so mad at myself. Today I had brunch instead of breakfast or lunch and it was a little bit of leftover steak, 1 egg and a piece of whole wheat toast. I'm running into town today and stopping at the store to check on some vegetables. But we do big grocery shopping Friday. Its so wonderful to see all the people here. I'm sure we can have a great year.
heartmom- It sounds like you're doing pretty good. Wish we could see pictures of those kids. They sound like they're growing like weeds.
chrgrl- Your menu sounds great. Why not have the chicken and sweet potato both? I make mine in the microwave. Boy a pot of homemade veggie soup sounds soooooo good.
Monet- Your dinner sounds yummy. Hope your plates turn out good. I didn't know we could have turnips. Gosh I love them and they're great in soup.
Tabitha- Your list looks really good. It will be good to get the book. It helps fill in the blanks. But questions are great, I learn so much by hearing others questions. Welcome to the group.
Solly- I'm so excited my son will be home Sunday. Last night he was supposed to fly to Kuwait and then on to the good ole USA. I can't tell you how my heart is bursting with happiness.
Jacque- Brr. I feel for your hubby. It was 5 here this morning in Missouri. Its so cold outside now. I'm dreading I have to run to town shortly to the post office in this freezing stuff.
Well I'm off for a bit. Got to get dressed...........

Just had a minute and thought I would check in. It really helps me stay on track.
Monet, I am sorry I forgot to congratulate you on the Dawgs win. I was surprised. They really put it on Hawai. I didn't t hink thurnips were allowed either.
Tabitha, :welcome: Wishing you the best success on this WOE and hope you stay with our group.
Amy, Hi, Welcome to you too. I have 30 lbs to get off and would love to have it off by June. So we are right there together. We can watch each other's progress. You may want to add another fruit.
Laurie, Hi, It is so nice to see you back posting. I would love to see the kids pics. I bet they have grown. Glad you are doing good. I wish I could say I only had 5 lbs to lose from the holidays. I was a big :pig:
Toni, Oh my gosh, I can't believe it is Sunday. Just knowing he is away from there and on his home is so excited. I am jumping up and down for you.
Sourgrapes, :welcome: to our group. It is nice to see so many newbies. Ask any questions.
OK, so far so good today. Breakfast was 2 hard boiled eggs and a banana for a snack. Lunch was a salad with vegies and low fat cheese and 2 oz of turkey & ham. Blue cheese dressing. (That is ok isn't it Monet? It only had 1 gram of sugar). Cauliflower and dip. I had an apple but was too full to eat it. Maybe as a snack later. Dinner will be chili made with lean hamburger and ww spaghetti.
Got to run. Have a great evening.

CHRGRL: :welcome: Glad to have you join us! I think Toni has a point..have the chicken AND the sweet potato for dinner. You do need to eat protein, and you did not have much listed on your menu.
SOURGRAPES: :welcome3: Good to have you join us too! The more the merrier!

Ok, I am not sure what to believe. I found conflicting information. One sight says turnips are 3g of pure carbs (compared to corns 22g!) but a GI of 70, which is high. I found two other pages however, that list 'free' foods and those low in GI, and turnips were definitely included. One page, for diabetics touted turnips highly packed nutrients and low GI making them a superior food to include in a diabetic's diet. So, up to you all. If you like turnips, I am willing to bet an occasional serving is not going to destroy your being on program.

so, i did end up eating chicken and a sweet potato for dinner. man, a sweet potato with butter and steak seasoning (which is really just pepper and garlic salt) is like the best thing ever! i think i could eat one every single day (but i won't)!
question: is polenta illegal? i'm going to guess that it is because it comes from corn meal and corn is illegal, but i'll still ask.

We decided that Wednesday is our weigh-in day since this is the day that I have to weigh at work. I found out today that they have over 600 people signed up to participate in the Get Fit program at work! Anyway - my GREAT news is that I'm down 7 pounds! :bravo: Yahoo. Don't know exactly when to say we started because the first couple of days, we did it about 1/2 way while finishing off the left-overs in the fridge, etc, but my guess is that we've been on it about 8 days. so - NOT BAD. Of course when I weighed in at work today, those scales had me weighing about 8 pounds more. That was fully dressed, after breakfast, etc, but she told me that I could NOT get naked in the weigh-in room - so I will go "officially" by my scale at home and just use their weight for the Get Fit program there. ;)

Morning! I am waiting for the kiln to cool so I can open it. I always want to rush it, because I am impatient! :) There is not a lot in it...mostly plates which take up a lot of room, but I have a large teapot in there, and a mug for a late Christmas gift.
SOUR: An occasional glass of wine is ok. I can't find my Sugar Busters book, but checked my Montignac book, which was what SB was based on. He tells you that if you can limit wine to one glass a day and it does not hinder weight loss, fine. If you can't limit it to one, or don't lose, then don't have it.
THIN: It was COLD last night when we got home from the potluck supper group at church. I hope it did not go lower than 20, or our collards may be gone. :(
SANDY: Have your read Dorothy Sayers Lord Peter Whimsey novels? They are great murder mysteries!
TONI: That weight will be gone in no time! I can relate to feeling like a slob! But you know, a slob day now and then is good for stress levels, right? :)

01-03-2008, 12:43 PM
Monet- thanks! I can definitely limit to 1 glass a day. :D I was having dinner last night and I didn't have any more bottled water and only had cranberry juice so I opted for a small serving of white wine instead. I thought that's a better choice than the 24g of sugar in the cranberry juice. :)

Good Morning! :eek:it got down to around 10 this morning, so I wish you luck with your collards Monet! I have a doctor's appt tomorrow morning at 9am, so I hope it is at least somewhat warmer then. I plan to go grocery shopping on the way home, so I working on a list full of veggies and good things! Any suggestions?
I haven't told you all, but the kids have both gone down in weight. I'm not sure too much of numbers, but they both have had to have new jeans at least one size down and now Rachel is even wearing a belt with the new ones! I am really looking forward to getting back in the game now because I have them being successful to lead the way for me. :cheer2:If two teens can do this, so can I!. Sean is now bugging me when I come in from the store about what did I buy that we don't need. I think my new plan is going to include trying to get in more veggies and fiber and hopefully finding something to do when I'm bored and feeling "hungry" rather than to eat! Good luck to everyone new and old in this new year!!!

Hello all. Its good and cold here too. My eating wasn't as good yesterday as I was hopeing. My problem was I didn't eat enough and was hungry and snacky all evening. I ended up snacking to much. It does help for sure to have well rounded meals and a couple of snacks in between.
Sandy- You can do this. Its so easy once you get going. And a great way of life.
sourgrapes- How was the spinach and artichoke casserole? that sounds good. Did you get the recipe off sugar busters..
Thin- Looks like you've got good inspiration at your house. Can't wait till you try out the mini trampoline.

I am disappointed in the kiln load. I have to reglaze a number of the pieces because the glaze did not cover properly. Bummer.
HEART: I believe that is what was said...the greens are low GI and the roots are high.
TONI: When I reglaze the teapot, I will try and post a picture. I love the finished product of a teapot, but for some reason, I hate making them!
THIN: That is wonderful that Sean and Rachel are doing so well! Tell them congrats from us!

Good afternoon ladies,
Whew what a morning. I have been running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Does that count as exercise?
We did make it to the gym last night. Got in about 40 minutes. DH did not want to overdo since we have not been there in awhile. It was packed as I thought it would be. All the new resolutions.
My breakfast consisted of oatmeal with skim milk. Had a banana on the ride back from my meeting. Lunch will be chili and an apple. Had some turkey perperonies for a snack. Dinner will be a roast with carrots, mushrooms and maybe sweet potatoes and another veggie, probably squash and zuchinni.
My scale was down 6 pounds this morning. 100% water, but at least that is gone. Hoping for a few more tomorow.
Toni, I am at the same wt as you. Now let's move down together.
Monet, It really doesn't matter about the turnips, I don't like them anyway. Can I save my one glass of wine a day for the weekend and have them all at one time?????
Sourgrapes. Wine is my downfall. I love to relax in the hot tub with a glass or 2.
Thin, glad to see you back. It is too cold here too. But we are supposed to get to 60 this weekend. How crazy it that? Congrats to your kids on th eir loss.
Chrgrl, glad you liked the SP. I think they are good also with a little cinnamon.
Snaps, Congrats on your big loss. Keep up the good work
Sandy, congrats on your engagement. You will make a beautiful bride especially when you lose all the wt you want.
Laura, glad to see you posting so much again. Put yesterday behind you.
Got to run, lots of work piled high. Have a great day.

toni48- the artichoke & spinach casserole was really good. I got the recipe off the board here. I had some leftover for lunch today.
So guys - I'm curious....why is sweet potato legal? I guess the term 'sweet' and it's a potato...I just figure it's not legal. Sorry if this is dumb ? but I'm wondering about this.
That being said, I was reading over some old posts yesterday and all I saw was sweet potato fries, so last night I picked up a bag at Super Target. I can't wait to try these. Sounds yum!

Howdy all.... I made me a shrimp and avocado omelet today for lunch. It was pretty good and sooo filling. I've been full all day. Working on getting 64 oz. of water in. I haven't been drinking water for so long its a chore.
Heartmom- Dang your salad sounded so good. Wish I had the stuff to make one like it for dinner.
Monet- Can't wait to see the teapot. For some reason I'm a teapot freak and to see one hand made would be something. I love your mug so much its my special tea one.
Solly- Your food sounds so good. All full of good veggies and stuff. Congrads on the 6 lbs. I hope my scale shows something next week. Bet you're lighter than me cause I'm really 191.5. Can't believe I've gained so much. We can do this.
Sourgrapes- Guess its just the GI on the sweet taters. I've got to look for the fries this week end.
Did anyone watch Montel today? His show was about his new book just out today. He does allot of juiceing and eating lots of vegetables. I ordered the book from Amazon. If nothing else maybe it'll give me inspiration.
Bye for now...

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!
Brrrrrrr it's cold here. It was 32 degrees this morning when I went to work! It's 49 degrees right now and headed downward again. The poor STRAWBERRY farmers are really losing their crop! The cold makes our fruit even sweeter when it gets cold so that won't be a problem. (citrus fruit that is)
I've got supper heating up...grilled chicken, fresh collards for me, grilled chicken and a baked potatoe with a bowl of black eyed peas for KATE.
I'm running through the briar patch tonight, so HELLO TO ALL YOUR NEW BUDDIES!!!! I'll get to you....
JACKIE...Where's my CONGRATS???? :?: Your game about did me in...I don't think I've EVER pulled so hard for THE CATS!! I LOVED IT!!! but....the best outcome was the MICHIGAN GAME~!!! :p Good thing GATOR didn't swing by here, or we would have been beating up on each other!.....AGAIN!!;)
SORRY, I don't remember who it was...maybe JACQUE??? The lasagna noodles are layed all the way to the top...see the recipe...I just wanted TONI to know that we don't cook our noodles, and the first layer on the bottom to completely cover the pan...
HELLO TO EVERYONE!!! I've got to go finish supper...

Good evening everyone, I did pretty good today but a friend dropped by with a sweetend coffee for me and I just couldn't hurt her feelings so thankfully it was just a small cup. I plan on getting back to my regular exercise schedule on Monday.
Monet you had asked what part of Virginia I'm in, I'm in Winchester, it's in the Northern part somewhat close to Richmond. Also I have not read any Dorothy Sayers Lord Peter Whimsey novels, but I will look into them I'm always up for something new. I would also love to see the things you make they sound just beautiful.
Toni and Solly thank you for the encouragement it really helps a lot!!!
Everyone else "Hi" and have a great evening!!!

Hello everyone!! Hope you're all having a GREAT start to the New Year!
I have had a rough last year and a half, with a couple of surgeries (one that was botched and I'm gonna have complications from probably forever) and a corrective one for that botched one... it's been quite the rollercoaster for me.
I started SB back the day before New Year's so it wouldn't seem like a resolution exactly and therefore make me less likely to break it... LOL
I don't know if any of you old-timers remember my cries of woe when the doc who diagnosed my fibromyalgia and had my diabetes under control moved to Florida... but he MOVED BACK!!! I saw him for the first time today and had to admit to him that since he left I have had NOT been managing my diabetes like I should because I haven't found a doc to make me accountable for my actions like he is! Which brings me to my first question...
MONET - I recall you were just starting Byetta when I last lapsed and fell off the board, and you were liking it. Well the doc gave me the starter kit today and sent me on my merry way with an order to take 2 injections a day (on the small 5 dose). I'm TERRIFIED. I don't know if I can stick myself with that thing!! Today is Thursday and I'm gonna wait and start the injections on Saturday morning so that I'm home if anything icky happens or I feel lousy. It will give me the weekend to get used to it... ANY TIPS?!?!? SUGGESTIONS?!? I'm so afraid of sticking myself (this from a girl with a tongue ring and 2 tattoos... but it's different doing it to MYSELF!!)
BOB - It's great to see you posting away, I sure have missed you and you'll be glad to know I'm slowly but surely becoming a football fan, so you'll need to give me some tips!! Hope you've been doing GREAT!! :D
I joined Curves a year ago and I lapsed about 2 months ago into going once a week... until this week and I'm back to every day!! I'm trying to find some :dust: so I can STICK WITH THIS!! I'm back up in the 200's and only 30 pounds down from my all time high... NOT GOOD!
I'm back here for some good old fashioned butt kicking support cause it seems to work when I stick it out with you guys!!

Beth- Its about time you got back here. Good to see ya posting.
Sandy- That little cup of coffee sure won't hurt you. You're doing great keep the good work up.
Bob- Hope it doesn't ruin the strawberries. I love not having to cook the lasagna noodles.
Monet- Evening girl....

whoa, i did not realize a serving of a sweet potato was only half! i do pick the smallest ones i can find out of the bin (they really do have some whoppers in there). i'll try to limit myself to 2-3 per week. i did not have a chance to post much yesterday, so here's what i had:
breakfast
hard boiled egg
post shredded wheat cereal with 1/2 cup 2% milk (i was going to have oatmeal, but i wasn't paying attention to the microwave and it go too hot and overflowed the bowl and i was too lazy to attempt to make more)
snack:
thin triscuits (12) with laughing cow light cheese
lunch:
salad with romaine lettuce, black olives, tomatoes, chickpeas, 1 tsp of sunflower seeds, a sprinkle of cheese, and creamy caesar dressing
snack:
almonds
pear (not at the same time)
dinner:
chicken breast
sweet potato with butter and steak seasoning
snack:
pickle (i noticed on the jar it stated a serving size was 3/4 of a pickle! who would just eat part of it? they were not huge or anything)
sourgrapes

Thanks for the info regarding the sweet potato. I bought some fries at Super Target the other night night so I can't wait to try them tonight. Of course, in moderation of course.
Last night I was at a friend's house printing some stuff and she offered me an orange soda. I was so busy printing and trying to get them done that I completely forgot sodas are off limits. Of course, by the time I remembered I should not be drinking sodas....I was already done with the can. Urgh...
On a good note though, I dropped 3 lbs.
Breakfast:
small serving Cheerios w/ milk
slice whole grain w/ peanut butter...although I only ate half of it since I was full
water
Lunch:
turkey sandwich on whole grain w/ hummus and lettuce
sugarfree jello
small apple

Hey, Beth!
Tabitha- I use the Ragu NSA light sauce. I add onion, mushrooms, bell pepper, garlic, and seasonings, along with 2 pks of Splenda and it's really good. Classico also has some legal sauces. Also, some things may have added sugars, but it's how much that determines if it's legal or not. Example, I think there is a Classico sauce that does have added sugar, but it's legal cause the sugar is listed around the 5th or more ingredient. I stay away from items that list sugar in the first 3 ingredients.
Sweet potatoes..I luv em. So if I know I'm gonna have one, I usually just avoid starches the other parts of the day.
I'm really hungry today, but trying to remain strong. I think I'll be okay. I've had an atkins bar, a cheddar cheese(2%) square, and 1 NSA yogurt. I'll probably eat the grilled chicken caesar salad(minus the croutons) from McDonald's for lunch. I know I'll be starving by supper tonight though. Not for sure what it will be, but yep, I'll be legal! I got off early yesterday, so I went to the gym afterwards. I just started going back..I only get to go now about twice a week because of my hours, but I do videos at home also. Yesterday, I did 25 min on the elliptical and then I walked on the treadmill for 15 min. I wanted to jog, but my shin splints were bothering me. This morning I did Leslie Sansone's Walk Strong..30 min tape. I'm gonna try and do the 3 mile tape tomorrow morning and then it will be next week before I get back to the gym. I'm concentrating more on cardio right now so that I can shed my holiday weight and then I will start some strength training a couple days a week. I'm not looking forward to being sore when I do! It's slow at work right now..I think I will poke around the recipe board...check back later!

Is light sour cream legal?
Slim Fast? Low car, 1 sugar. Is it ok? and do you count it as a carb?

I went to the doctor this morning to have my cholesterol rechecked. It was high last time so I have had to go back up to the 20mg Lipitor. We then went to the grocery, and I got bell peppers, onions, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, canned tomatoes, beans, dried beans, all kinds of good stuff.:carrot: I have red beans in the crock pot and I'll do some brown rice for dinner. I'm hoping to start making a lot of veggie loaded soups and chilis to get us all back on track.
Sean went and bought guitar hero for the wii this morning and he and Rachel have gone to grandma's to try it out. I am going to stay home and do some stuff around the house for a while, then I'll go see how it's going!:D

Hi everyone. Welcome to all you new ones.
I've been busy the last few days, so haven't been onto the site.
Finally came to my senses after eating too many chocolates over the holidays. Now I'm enjoying celery and cheese dip instead.
Do you have Hellmann's mayo in the US? I found some at Walmart made with olive oil and although there is some sugar added, it's not enough to show on the carb listing.
Two of my goals on my last trip to the city were to see if I could find sugar free mayo and the sweet potato fries you guys talk about. No luck on the fries - I'm guessing they must be a US thing. I'm going to keep checking though, whenever I get to the city.
You think Fargo is cold - we're about 3-4 hours north of them and because we're in Canada, when you freeze at 32* F in the US, we freeze at 0*C, so it even sounds colder up here. This week it's been around -10 ish during the day and we're feeling lucky because it's usually in the -20's. We dress warm or else we stay inside. My DH dresses warm and I stay inside!
Have a great day all.

Good afternoon! The morning kind of got away from me. I slept late, and had a late espresso and breakfast. I took a shower and was just getting dried off when the doorbell rang. It was Justin's parents being dropped off. Their flight is this evening so they came to spend the day with Justin, Laura and of course Kaeleb. We had coffee, then they headed out to the mall to meet some friends. Kaeleb is going to be a pill since they left about the time he usually goes down for a nap.
I am trying to get over a particularly nasty hypogycemic episode. I am actually encouraged to have one, since my blood sugar has been running so high lately for no known reason. Perhaps the stress relief of Justin's parents going home today, signaling the end of the holiday season, helped. I dunno...
BETH: Great to see you! Yes, I am using Byetta, and have loved it. Lately, my blood sugar has not been behaving, and I am not sure why. For the first 18 months I was on Byetta, it was perfect. Seriously as good as if I were NOT diabetic at all! I did have a bit of trouble with nausea, but try crystallized ginger if you have that problem. It helps me a lot. My secret to pain free injections is to use a stretch mark. :) I have plenty from my pregnancies...and I alternate sides of my belly from morning and evening. It really isn't bad..and the needles are rather small. I hope it works well for you! Just remember to stop eating sooner rather than later at meals. If you over eat, you will feel more nauseated. A good doctor sure makes a world of difference, doesn't it? The endo I went to was great for the diabetes, but he started messing with my thyroid meds and set me back quite a bit. Before he decided to reduce my thyroid meds by 75% I was doing great, walking 3 miles a day and losing weight. After he did that, I gained 15 pounds in two weeks, and could hardly get out of bed. I have a new doctor now, and he is getting the thyroid stuff sorted out, but now the blood sugar levels are bad...sheesh. I can't win!

Happy Friday ladies.
Gotta love these short weeks.
Man I got a great work out at the gym last night. I was sweating up a storm. I hope to get there again tomorrow or at least get a walk in. I think it is going to warm up some.
Toni, I was at 192 Wed, but today it is at 188. This water thing is crazy. Now I will see if any fat comes off by next week.
Bob, I'm sorry. I was pulling for the Vols. I would have liked to see Florida win to make it another win for the SEC. I have really enjoyed watching football this past week, especially with our new LCD TV. Tomorrow is the big game UK vs UL. I don't have a good feeling about it. Cats have not been playing well.
Beth, welcome back. Glad to hear from you. A good doc you can trust means a lot. Good luck on those shots. I don't know if I could do that either.
Chrgrl, Something I noticed in your menus is the number of strachy carbs. If you had cereal, cracker and a potato, that is 3 and it could stunt your loss. I know the book says 2-3, but if you can I would stick to the 2. Just my 2 cents.
Sourgrapes, see my note to Chrgrl above about your starchy carbs.
Laurie, I need to concentrate on the cardio more too. Last night I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes of lower body. It looks like you are getting tons of exercise. WTG! Thanks for your answers.
Thin, my nephew has the guitar hero and loves it. The kids never get to play it as he is on it all the time.
Donna, if it were that cold here, I would have to move. I hate the cold and can't wait until summer gets here.
Monet, I'm glad the holiday stuff is over too. I like my routine.
No big plans for the weekend. My great niece's birthday party is Sunday. They usually will have chili, so I can be legal with that. I will just have to be very careful and if I can't in a pinch remember the moderation My DD will be with me so she will be keeping me on track. DH went hunting today so if we even make it to happy hour, I am sticking with 1 glass of wine.
Have a great weekend.

New To This Board
Hello to other Sugar Busters, I am starting the program. The last week of
Dec. I looked through all my diet books. I wanted to see which one I thought
would work best for me. I decided on Sugar Busters for several reasons.
It eliminates the foods I have the most trouble with. Sugar, potatoes, corn,
white flour products, these are all foods I have trouble stopping once I start
eating them. It is better for me to just give them up completely. Also I have
been looking over the different diet boards and I like this one. There are
enough people to get input and advice but not so many that it would take
forever to read the posts. I also like that this board really talks about the
Sugar Busters way of eating. Some of the boards are mostly chit chat that
has nothing to do with the program. Not that I don't enjoy chit chat to, but
the reason I'm here is to get support for and learn about the Sugar Busters
way of living. At 61 years, 5'4" and 213 pounds, it is time for me to get this
weight off and live a more healthy life style. Thanks, SMW PS
Are there any frozen dinners you can buy at a grocery store that are OK
for Sugar Busters program?

Solly, I have thought about the starchy carb intake... I figured I'd "go easy on myself" the 1st few weeks, when weight loss is usually the easiest, and then buckle down later. So far today I've only had one starchy carb, though, and it's already past lunch!

MONET - I, too, have a lovely set of stretch marks from both pregnancies and I've thought the same thing... that it might be less painful there. I'm so silly I've been pinching myself all over to see where I have the least sensation, I know... :dizzy: Yes the DOC makes all the difference!! I walked in the office and he gave me a huge hug and asked me how I was and sat down with me and acted like he had nowhere else to be until I was completely done telling him everything that had gone on and all my concerns. I'm so comfortable with him and he is a "go-getter" when it comes to finding out reasons for things and treating symptoms and not necessarily numbers!
Solly - THANKS! Yes it does! And the GL is appreciated greatly! Hey I wonder if you're allowed to have MY wine!! lol :D
Thin - I'm SOOOOO addicted to Guitar Hero! It's the ONLY video game I've ever played, but when I watched the kids doing it, I couldn't resist!! Now I want to go get the Rock Band game because I have one kid who plays drums, and one who plays guitar... and I am a karaoke queen! It looks fun too!
I'm heading home to find something legal for dinner... the kids are having a pizza party so I think it's gonna be grilled chicken and veggies for me!! Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!! I'll be checking in soon!!!
Oh yeah... where do I find crystallized ginger?!?!?

SLOW: :welcome3: Glad to have you join us! We CAN get chatty, but I hope that won't scare you off! :) There are a few Lean Cuisines that are all whole grain...they state that rather clearly on the box. They use brown rice and whole grains. South Beach stuff is usually legal too.
BETH: I get the ginger at Trader Joes. It does have sugar in and on it...I rinse it off. I see it alot in the baking section of the store as it is used in fruit cakes and stuff. Asian groceries usually have it too. It may even be with candy. At Trader Joes they have it with the dried fruits. If you can not find it and want to try it, I would be happy to mail you a package from Trader Joes.

Weekly check in!
Breakfast this morning:
Oatmeal and an orange. I'm bringing an apple to the shop with me for a snack and will eat a later lunch when I get home at 2.
The shop has been awesome this week. Tuesday I had three customers and made $31 in tips!! I had two colors and they both gave me $15 tips. The rest of the week has been great, too, with new customers and everyone coming out great. I've become really optimistic in the last few weeks. I miss my recliner and the Food Channel dearly, but this is good, too.
I'm officially starting off back on plan at 174 and my goal is 160 by spring. I think that's doable since the first 10 will probably drop off as water weight. anyhow, I plan to come on here every day (or so) and post my menu. It helps keep me on the straight and narrow.
But now I have to go open the shop. Talk you all later!!
Kris

TECH - I soooooo wanna get Rock Band, my boys have birthdays one month apart in Feb/March so I think it's gonna be a joint birthday gift (that I'll get to play with too!! hehehe) WTG on your shop!! Sounds like you are starting off right for a very successful year!! :carrot:
SMW - Welcome to our board!! Some of us like to chat, but everyone here is fantastic for being supportive and helping each other thru the hard times. I've been here on and off for WOW 6 years now!! And when I post and read the posts regularly, I'm most successful! You and I are at about the same weight and height... so we can move down together!!!
OK Get this... I get home last night after posting at work, and my phone is ringing. It's the doctor's office. DRUMROLL PLEASE....
My A1C Level is only 6.1 (normal for a non-diabetic is about 5, they like to try and keep diabetics below 7) and the doctor said if I will STICK TO SUGAR BUSTERS and keep working out... he wants me to take NOTHING!!!!! No shots, no pills.... NOTHING. He is going to give me a chance to be strictly diet/exercise controlled! So... here I sit with my byetta pen and box of needles I already had to go get... and I don't need them, but that's okay!! YAY!!:carrot:
Of course they said everything looks fine on my bloodwork except my Cholestorol is 202... so I gotta start watching that. But now I'm wondering why I'm having the sweating, hair loss, facial hair growth, swelling... all that crap if my thyroid and my hormones are all fine. :?:
I hope everyone else gets some great news to start off their year! Here's wishing you all a safe, relaxing and OP weekend! I'm off to my part-time gig at the video store for a few hours... it's been so slow I'm gonna take a book and some OP snacks!

Are Morningstar veggie patties legal? Ingredients: mushrooms, water chestnuts, onions, carrots, green/red bell peppers, black olives, TVP, egg whites, cooked brown rice, rolled oats, corn oil, calcium caseinate, soy sauce; containts 2% or less of: onion powder, cornstarch, salt, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, autolyzed yeast extract, sugar, soy portein isolate, spices, garlic powder, dextrose, jalapeno pepper powder, celery extract
Nutrition Info: 110 cal, 3.5 g fat, 9 g total carb, 3 g fiber, 1 g sugar, 10 g protein
I see some "illegal" ingredients but they seem pretty far down on the list.
so far today I've had:
breakfast:

snack:
celery sticks with almond butter and hummus
lunch:

1 wedge laughing cow light cheese
snack:
clementine

i thought there was something good about eating a meal with proteins only? like it increases your glucagon secretion or something? a protein only lunch is a rarity for me.
the morningstar patties are good...i used to eat them all the time. my husband is a vegetarian so i've tried a lot of the fake meat products.

I agree with Toni. Add a veggie. I have not heard that about protein only meals. If you find it, please let me know as I would be interested in reading it. I think it is a good idea to pack in as many veggies as you can.

ok, sorry. i read it in the "sugar bust for life!...with the brennans part II cookbook and companion guide" which is not endorsed by sugar busters i guess. it states:
"Some people have realized that weight loss is expedited by eating protein alone. Interestingly, eating protein alone has the directly opposite effect of eating the high glycemic carbohydrates that are stored as fat. Therefore, eating just a sirloin strip, a grilled chicken breast or Flounder with lemon butter sauce will signal the pancreas, instead, to secrete an enzyme clled glucagon which, actually, will break down stored fat."
i read several "anti-sugar" books at the same time, so i was getting them mixed up.

Hi All, I followed SB 4 years ago and lost 35 pounds from 167 to 132. I've fluctuated, had a baby and hover around 139 now. In the interim I had tried Weight Watchers and gotten down to 125. I felt really good at that weight and am shooting to get back to that weight but through SB this time. Weight Watchers counting points was difficult long term for me. I'm starting back on the diet today and just wanted to say hello. I think it will just be a matter of getting back into the swing of things. I typically have a problem with cheating then really falling off the wagon. So this go round I am going to take it day by day, meal by meal and just not cheat myself!! Where do you guys get the cute pound slider scale thingies? I am so glad to have found 3FC, this seems like a great support system! Cheers--Joanna

Hello to all!
Sorry I have not been posting much this week. I had a busy work week and then yesterday I had to put my mom in the hospital. I thought she was dead when I found her. She was in a chair in her den but was not moving. Turns out she was alive but too weak to move and had sit there from 8 p.m. until 11a.m. the next day when I found her. The doctors are running a bunch of tests to see what is wrong but we know now she was severly dehydrated, has a touch on pneumonia and her heart is beating off the norm.
On the sweet potato fries - most Wal Marts have them in the french fry area of the freezer section. They are really good.
I also am a Byetta user and the first 3 months it really helped my readings but the last 6 weeks, my readings are going up for no reason. The shots are not hard to give yourself. It is more of an epi-pen approach, very thin needle and you hardly feel it at all.
I have lost 2 pounds so I am headed in the right direction! I need to get on that trampoline I bought at Aldis on Monday! Hopefully I can start that tomorrow when I get home from the hospital.
Bob - thanks for the answer on the lasagne noodles. I am going to make that recipe this week for sure!
Hubby is freezing in Fargo but is meeting alot of really nice people. I keep trying to think of a food item they might have up there that we do not have that he could bring me as a treat but I am not coming up with anything!
Take care all!

Quick menu post: A little sloppy yesterday, but this is how it went:
Breakfast: oatmeal and an orange
Lunch: an apple and pretzels and a couple cookies
Dinner: salad with lettuce, onions and pepperonis (Derek's been doing the shopping and his idea of salad food is lettuce...no tomatoes or cukes. Oh, well, he's doing a good job otherwise.)
Snack: Popcorn and a couple more cookies. I had blue cheese dressing on my salad and I couldn't get the taste out for anything...hence, the cookies.
As I said, I was a little sloppy yesterday, but if you know how unhinged I was over the holidays, you'd see such an improvement.
Note: Ticker moved one 'tick'. :woohoo:
Bye!! Welcome Joanna!!

Hi all thanks for the warm welcome everybody! I'm excited for this try on SB, this time I have friends along the way-- on the same journey as me! To chrgrl: the first try took me roughly 6 or 8 months it was years ago-- but what an incredible change. My clothes just fell off me month after month. I was always buying new stuff. Someone mentioned when you lose steadily, so you don't waste money until your goal weight, just shop at Goodwill?
I had the natural PB on wheat bread today, very filling.
Have a great week everybody! :)

Happy Sunday all.... Just had brunch. LOL It was an egg, 2 little sausages, dry ww toast and oj. That should hold me most the day till I make a chicken stir fry later. I'm trying to get some water in me. I'm really not making an effort to drink it lately. Guess cause its winter.
jakebabe- Of course our crappy Wal Mart didn't have the sweet potato fries. I was so mad. I'll just have to keep an eye out for them. Congrads on losing 2 lbs. thats great.... Poor hubby. Its 60 here today but think its going to rain.
Techwife- How nice to have someone else do the shopping. I just hate to go to the grocery store. Your eating isn't to bad. I had some popcorn last night.
Joanna- You can do this again. Woo hoo we're both on our way.
Okay I'm off and going.

AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!
Thought I had better get in here before MONET starts swinging that broom at my butt!
Nice weekend here on the West Coast of FLA....BUT....the humidity is on it's way back! I think we've had our winter in just two short days!
It's chicken on the grill and fresh collards on the menu today. I picked up my yogurt, oatmeal, tangerines and skim milk.
TONI....don't pay grocery store prices for sweet potato fries...there's probably some kind of perservative in them anyway. Buy about 3 or four real sweet potatoes, peel, quarter then into 1/8ths...toss with a little olive oil and what ever else you want like cinnamon, garlic etc...spread on a cookie sheet and pop into the oven at 500 degrees for about 30 minutes.
OH...MY...GAWD!! They are so good!
My DOC told me (and has taken me off) perservatives are the culprits that plague people trying to lose weight. Eat everything fresh...it's better for you and will save you money in the long run. Be sure to get active culture yogurt...the Greek Yogurt is the best around....
I saw the BEST MOVIE last night...THE KINGDOM with Jaime Fox and a lot of really good actors with him. DON'T MISS THIS ONE...
Also watched THE NANNY DIARIES...A good one also

So far so good today:
Breakfast: Oatmeal and coffee (I had my orange later for a snack)
Lunch: Pita filled with turkey, mayo and lots of lettuce and a banana
Snack: Orange
Dinner: Pork chops with green beans...slightly illegal because I'm cooking the chops with cream of mushroom soup and we're having mashed potatoes, but i'll keep mine to a minimum.
I'm also hitting the tap with a glass of water as often as possible.
Today I got hit with a headache and it went away just in time to watch the Sabres LOSE to Atlanta. Six game losing streak. El stinko!!
Derek and Kyle are putting together a 5 feet tall Knex roller coaster in the living room. Its pretty impressive...I'm just happy to see them working on something that doesn't require a screen, ie: video games or computer things.
Chrgrl: My rule of thumb for meals (when I have enough veggies in the house) is two servings of fruits/veggies and a protein at every meal. Grains should be used sparingly. Don't go by MY menu lately because I'm hobbling at best staying on plan.
Bob: What is the reason for the no preservatives exactly? I agree with the doc, but in reality...I would end up with a bunch of rotten food if it didn't have preservatives in it.
Toni: It's nice to have him do the shopping, but he leaves out a lot of things...like things for the kids lunches, my splenda, etc.
Joanna: I tried the natural peanut butter once. ONCE. I loved how it smelled, but I couldn't stand the taste of it. Or lack of taste, I think. I'm glad you like it because its so much better for you than, say, Skippy. I have the same problem with you and the cheating here and there and then the complete fall off the wagon.
Monet:
Okay...have to go check on dinner. Talk to you guys later!!
PS...I may have popcorn later. But will keep it to a minimum. ;)
Jacque: Good luck to you and your mom. How scary to find her that way and how fortunate for you to have come by when you did! Keep us posted on that situation. And good going on the two pounds! Doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up when you add two more here and two m ore there...before you know it, its 10 pounds!! Keep it up!!

breakfast:
steel cut oatmeal with butter, cinnamon, 1 T walnuts (i've never had steel cut oats before...WAY better than "regular" oatmeal!)
1 clementine
lunch:
romaine lettuce salad (was too lazy to add anything else) with sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese and 1 T creamy caesar dressing
3 oz baked salmon
1 cup green peas
sugarfree jello
snack:
apple with almond butter (i broke the "must eat fruit alone" rule but oh well)
light string cheese
dinner:
big bowl homemade veggie soup
later i might eat some tuna. i'm going to try mixing it with a wedge of light laughing cow cheese to see how that goes.
i haven't gotten out of the habit (yet) of tracking calories until i know i'm doing well (this is only my 5th day on sugar busters and i don't like to weigh in any more than once per week) and i am somewhat alarmed by the high proportion of fat, even though they are good fats. does anyone else track their calories or pay attention to the percentages of fat/carbs/protein?

Good evening. Just got done with dinner and it was stir fried chicken and a banana. This afternoon I had a cherry smoothie and some almonds. So eating has been good. I'm working on my water now. I've got 32 oz in so far and working on another 32.
chrgrl- Your eating sounds good. I'll have to try steel cut oats I've never had them.
Techwife- You're doing great too. Have a good week at the shop.
Bob- there you are I was beginning to wonder what had happened to you. Is it busy at the office. I'm going to have to do the fries from scratch. I was lazy and hopeing to find them already cut up. Thanks for telling me how. I'll try them.
Well off to watch tv.

Snack update...I had sugar free chocolate pudding instead. Not the greatest, but not totally illegal, if I remember.
Chrgrl: Try Triscuits for your tuna. Triscuits are SO legal and a great and satisfying snack. Just measure out a serving, though, and stick to it or else you'll end up eating the whole box (trust me, it can be done)....which is NOT good.
techwife, i do eat triscuits (usually for a snack) but i have been trying to limit them to only a few times per week.
do most of you follow the "fruit must be eaten alone" rule? i really think i would eat more fruit if it weren't for this rule. i used to love making strawberry smoothies, but i can't now because of this rule, and i'm bummed.

Evening everyone! It has been a busy day for me. I slept late. ( this is getting to be a habit!) Then after breakfast, I went down to the garagio and worked. I re-did the urn for my sister in law's dog, AGAIN. The last one came out of the kiln looking gorgeous , except for two or three very strange cracks! I tried to reglaze them, but they just got worse when I refired it. So, back to the wheel and a new one. sigh. Then Tom and I went for a walk. It was gorgeous here today. I even took off my hoodie because it was so warm! We had dinner out tonight after church. I got tortilla soup, which was awesome, but had white rice and corn tortillas in it! Argh! I also succumbed to some chips. Tomorrow I MUST be better.
CHRGRL: I don't stick to the fruit alone rule much. The reason is that fruit is more easily digested and it can cause tummy trouble. I have never noticed any problems eating fruit with other foods, so I try to have it alone as a snack, but if I feel like an orange for dessert, I eat it. I don't think it will hinder weight loss.
JAKEBABE: Oh, my goodness! That must have been SO scary for you to find your mom like that! I am so glad she is doing better. I hope they can find out what caused that. I hope the stress doesn't upset you. Congrats on the loss! As for something from Fargo...I can't think of anything they have there that you can't get other places! Well, except extreme COLD!
TECH: Sorry Atlanta beat your Sabres. I am so glad to see you posting again. Missed you.
TONI: Cherry smoothie sounds good! What do you put in it ?
BOB: You better believe I was searching for that broom. That is interesting what the doctor said about preservatives. I need to eat more fresh stuff. The sweet potato fries that I get are a health food brand, so they don't have preservatives in them. I think they are organic...will have to check the bag. They sure are good, and easy!

Good morning. First of all, I would like to say Jakebabe, I am sorry to hear about your mom! I pray all is well. I am kind of new to this board. I think I may have posted once. Anyway, I am starting sugar busters today. I have done it before and lost 35 pounds in 3 months. I have no idea where my book is. I may need to purchase the newest version. I think I saw on a post where some one ate a banana. I thought banana's were a no no. This morning for breakfast I ate a strawberry whey protein shake made with 2% milk and I threw in 3 strawberries. for snack I had an orange. For lunch I will have a chef's salad and for dinner a grilled chicken sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. I walk every day and I do pilates. HOpefully I will have the same success and then some, this time around.

Hey Dana,
Sounds fab - what you're doing. IMAGINE losing 35 pounds in 3 months!!! I love it!!!!!!
I love NOT EATING SUGAR - of course I am not perfect doing this but the majority of the time I don't eat it. I do it because I'm not as moody and whatever else follows from that is bonus.
I'm really glad you're hear because you sound like you want to get the job done.

Ugh, I fell off the wagon again this weekend..weekends have always been really hard for me. I didn't even exercise this weekend either. Today's a new day though. I plan on going to the gym this evening after work..probably do just cardio. Here's my menu:
BF: had 2 eggs and 2 sl low sodium bacon
Snack:5 strawberries
Lunch: SBD frozen dinner and a SF yogurt
Snack:apple
Supper: Spaghetti(w/out the noodles) and loaded salad.
Chgrl: I eat apples with PB and most of the time I eat strawberries with yogurt. The fruit alone thing is mainly if you have digestion problems, digesting the protein and fruit together.

Good morning Ladies.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. I had a 99% legal weekend  And the scale was at the same wt Friday as today. :cheer: That is a miracle in itself. Eating would have been perfect, except my nephew had pizza instead of chili as I anticipated. I hadn't had anything since breakfast, so I had salad and 3 small pieces. Did not have any margaritas or wine. I was so proud. of myself. Of course my DD was following me around asking what I was eating all the time.
Here it is after 10 and I am not even hungry. Have not had breakfast as it was so busy this morning. For some reason I am not hungry on Monday's. I even went to the gym all by myself Sat and did 40 minutes of cardio. Took the dog for a short walk yesterday. That really doesn't count.
I need some crock pot recipes for chicken if anyone has any good ideas or other things too. I like to use my crock pot asmuch as possible.
Toni, how do you do your stir fry chicken? I am at a loss what to do with chicken.
Chrgrl, I think the books says only 1 small plate, no seconds and keep portions to the normal size. That should help with the calories. I guess it is always better to go with the "lite" or low fat versions of some things. Are those veggie patties breaded like the Chick patties? I love them.
Joanna, Welcome back. I switched to WW for awhile with my DD. She did great, me,not so great. I am back to SB to get rid of this 40 lbs.
Jacque, How horible about your mom. Sure hope she is doing metter. Great job on the 2#;s.
Bob, I agree about the SP fries. I have had them, but like the real ones better. Cheaper too!
Slow Moving, :welcome: to our group. This is a great place for support. I was just reading in our paper yesterday the best way to lose wt was really not a diet, but to elimiante sugar, white breads, white potatoes, add ww products. Sound familar? So I guess sB has it down pat. Good luck.
Beth, I only like white zin, and it is not really legal, but you have to do what works for you. That is great news. Now you definately have reason to stay on plan. I rather do anything that takes shots.
Tech, sounds like 2008 is going to be a good year for your shop. Hope business gets even better. I agree, posting here sure helps a lot.
Monet, Hey sleepy head. Hey, do it when you can. Sorry your urn is giving you so much trouble.
Dansgirl, welcome. I probably mentioned the banana. They are legal if they are green tipped. I have to eat one everyday since I take 3 diuretics as day. Got to replenish the potassium. I hope you have the same sucess as before. That was great.
Ray of Light, wow, that's a lot of vegggie soup.
Got to run, hope I didn't miss anyone, I have been working on this post all morning. Have a great day.

Hello everyone! I am keeping Kaeleb this morning. Justin has orientation for his new job and Laura works Monday mornings. We will see how the job pans out for Justin, but I may be on call a couple days a week since he will be working 12 to 9 if he stays with the job.
Kaeleb is tired this morning and into everything. I am just bidding time until I can feed him some lunch and put him down for a nap. Tom is keeping an eye on him for a few minutes to give me a breather! When he is tired, Kaeleb literally goes from one no no to another. Boy is he stubborn!
I will check in later, once I get the little monster to bed! :)

the 35 pounds were great. and I was eating unhealthy (bacon, fried eggs, butter, mayo) My weaknesses are mayo butter, fries and pancakes. I will use soy flour for my pancakes. I need a fry replacer. I am not sure if I would like the sweet potato fries. I will try it one day. Cool on the bananas. I like making strawberry banana smoothies.

Wow Dana - was that Atkins or something?? I know what cha' mean about the butter and mayo.....I love shiny food!!!
I'm sure banana's convert to sugar fast, I'm always tired after I eat one. I can tell you from experience that the sweet potatoe "fries" taste just as good as the fry fries. Also my hunch is is that there is very little nutrition because of the heavy frying. You could bake 'em though.

Hello everyone. My son got home from Iraq last night. I've got to call him soon but wanted him to get settled in a bit. :carrot: And Steve is asleep in his recliner so I'll wait till he wakes up.
Monet- My smoothies are so simple and good. I use 1/2 cup nonfat or lowfat vanilla yogurt, 1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice and 3/4 cup frozen fruit in the blender. I love frozen cherries in it. But blueberries or anything else is good to. Sorry about the urn. I hope this one comes out really good.
Mercee- good to see you again...
Ray- Your soup sounds so good. Wish I had a pot cooking away.
danasgirl- Welcome to the board. How do you make your smoothies?
heartmom- I had a bad eating week end to. Half good half bad.
Solly- I need some crockpot recipes for chicken too. I've got one I found last night I might try.
Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Stew
Poultry Mexican Dinner
Submitted by GINGERFISH
I love this stew! It is so easy and leaves me feeling satisfied. I use 3/4 cup as a serving. If it is too spicy for you, substitute a can of diced tomatoes for one of the diced tomatoes w/chilies.
Ingredients
1 onion, chopped
1 16-oz can black beans
1 16-oz can kidney beans
1 16-oz can corn (drained)
1 8-oz can tomato sauce
2 14.5-oz cans diced tomatoes w/chilies
1 1.25-oz packet taco seasoning
1-2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Directions
Mix everything together in a slow cooker except chicken. Lay chicken on top and cover. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. 30 minutes before serving, remove chicken and shred. Return chicken to slow cooker and stir in. This is good eaten with cheese, sour cream, or tortilla chips.
Anyway it looked good to me.
Well got to run and call my SON!!!

you are doing quite well with your eating, congratulations to you

I got on the scale today - and I'm the same as I was last week - 186. I had been careful in what I ate this week, but I'm thinking maybe I've been eating too much of the "right" foods. I also didn't realize we're only supposed to eat two starches a day - I've been doing more than that.
So this week, I'm going to cut back a bit on the starches and see if that makes any difference. Are beans and lentils considered starches or protein?I've seen them refered to as both.
So far today:
Breakfast: 1 poached egg / 1/4 cup of homemade granola with a little All Bran added / plus milk
Snack: Yogurt & applesauce
Lunch is going to be: Pork stir fried with cabbage/onions/tomatoes/zuchinni and some kind of squash that somebody gave me.
Hope you all have a good day.

I have been keeping a running tally in my head of points, which is a
weight watchers way of counting calories. I think I am going to start
writing them down. I don't always sit down and eat things properly
off of a plate as I should. Instead I will eat one thing and then eat
something else. Not always, but sometimes. It may take me a while
to break myself of the habit of keeping a tally and trust that eating
the right foods is enough in it 'self. I don't worry so much abut the
fat/carbs/protein thing. I figure if I stick with the right foods in normal
proportions that will be OK. Even when I fell off the wagon yesterday
I did not eat sugar. I had a white hamburger bun and french fries but

anything sweet this was better than I usually do. I am going to keep

Hi SMW,
Sounds like you are doing great in spite of your obstacles.
I find that when I eat anything white or fried stuff it still spikes my blood sugar - in other words it behaves and converts to glucose just as fast as mainline sugar. This then creates the big yawning jaws of CRAVE. When I eat food that is low glycemic, like that slow burning carb foods - I feel full for a long long long time. This is waaaaaaayyyyy better for me but then there's the emotional edge and that's another story.......

Ray of light: No, I didnt do atkins. I know that we are supposed to use lean meats instead of fried meats. I fried everything. I ate a whole lot of regular bacon and sausage. I didnt opt for the low sodium or turkey anything. I used a lot of butter and heavy whipping cream in my oatmealThis time I would like to use veggie products. I love the veggie italian "sausage". they really taste like a sausage dog. My question is, what can I do for my chocolate sweet tooth other than sf ice cream? Hope you were all a bunch of LOSERS today!! I weighed in at Curves after work and I've lost 1.5 pounds since Wednesday when I got my bootie back to the gym! So that's good news for me!! :carrot:
SOLLY - You're absolutely right... it give me a LOT of motivation to stay OP and to be dedicated to hitting the gym because it means NO SHOTS!! It's also great not to have to take the pills, because they give me an upset tummy sometimes. So I'm really going to do everything I can to continue to be successful so he will let me keep being meds free! Plus the better I keep my levels, the less chances of the future problems diabetes causes!! :)
SMW - We have ALL been there! It's so hard to pass up foods that we've gotten in the habit of eating for so long. I often catch myself reaching for a bite of something just out of habit and have it halfway to my mouth before I realize what I'm doing! Don't get discouraged!! Slips are normal and it doesn't mean you have failed!!! Just chalk it up to OOPS, and make your next food choice a healthy one. They say it takes 3 weeks to make something a habit... and you'll be ignoring those bad foods before you know it! STICK WITH IT!! You're gonna do great!!!
I don't know if any of the newer people have heard of it, but a GREAT tool to keep up with what you're eating and track how much of each food you need/have eaten is FITDAY.COM. I love it, it's really easy to use and it helps me keep track of what I've eaten, and where I need to improve. It also has a place for you to put what you weigh and how much you wanna lose and how long it will take. You can also log exercise, and journal what's up in your life. It's just a really nice site.
MONET - Sorry about the urn... hope the new one turns out as good as that one did!!
TONI - I'm so glad your son is home safe and sound!! I know you're glad!!
For everyone else... hope your week started off great, and continues that way!! I'm off to eat my grilled chicken, green beans and brown rice :D

Hi as you all know I'm new, I think optionally you can weigh in... so i did. Have to admit I was a little disapointed. I weighed in friday at 138.5 and was ok with that, but this morning I weighed in at 140. Oh well, I won't let it destroy the week. On a positive note, I drank tons of water this weekend and felt fabulous for that. I read how drinking more water helps speed up your metabolism, carries nutrients through out your body and even can help with the afternoon slump. So chug a lug everybody!!
Have a great week everyone! Take care!;)

Ok, so I lied. I did not get back here after I got Kaeleb to bed. The afternoon kind of got away from me. I had bowls to trim, and two vases to decorate, and the urn to work on. They are all done and drying. I have some orders I MUST get done, so I may go down and throw some more tonight.
TONI: I am SO happy to hear your son is home! I know you can't wait to speak to him. That was so nice of you to give him time to rest.
SMW: We all fall off the wagon from time to time. The key is to get right back on! So, if you blow it, oh well! You are human...just go right back to eating right and it won't cause much damage. I did the same thing. I was doing great all day, then my son in law asked me to keep an eye on a pan full of tater tots he was frying. I ate about five of them before I even THOUGHT about it...and I KNOW potatoes are not allowed! What was I thinking? I guess I wasn't! :o
CHRGRL: Your menu looks great! I got a laugh out of the SF pudding...glad it was yours!
DONNA: It is a toss up as to what you consider beans and lentils. They are lower glycemic than bread, but higher than meat. I have heard it suggested they be counted as 1/2 a starch, which seems like a good idea to me.
RAY: I am with you...one bite of white, and I just CRAVE it. And it does terrible things to my blood sugar. I am hoping this is my year...I have a good doctor who is being very pro-active about getting my metabolic problems solved. I feel like I have been struggling to lose for most of my life! It is time to see some success!
BETH: Congrats on the loss! I am definitely jealous that you are off meds! :bravo:
Ellen

WANTS: It is always frustrating if you weigh one day, then see an increase a couple days of good eating later! Try not to let the scale 'own' you. Only weigh once a week, then you get a true picture of how you are doing. Some folks never weigh and go totally by how they clothes fit. That extra two pounds could have been from the extra water you were drinking.

Hey Ladies!!
Well, I made it through my first day on plan! YIPPEE! It was a toughie because I’m so used to eating all day and eating what I want – whew – I wanted to cheat so badly!! A king cake (a Mardi Gras cake) was delivered to school today and there were left over cookies from our inservice day Friday and I didn’t touch them…I really wanted to but I didn’t! HA!
I spent my weekend packing Mardi Gras beads so I can be ready for my big ride on February 4th. The theme of the parade is Cleopatra goes around the world. Our float is Scotland. So, we have these bright green shirts and we are having kilts made. Yeah…my big butt in a kilt. Do you think I should wear my thong underneath or what?!?!! AHAHA! I don’t even own one of those so don’t worry!!!
I don’t have time to read back to the beginning of January so I’m going to start off with today’s posts!! I’ve got to watch the LSU game! As of now they are winning! GEAUX TIGERS!
MERCEE: Hope you had a good vacation! UMMM sugar free fudge bars sounds good. I’ll have to try them.
RAY: Hey! Christmas sure did go by fast. It was great for us this year though – having kids makes things much more fun! I’ve got everything put away that was up on the inside of the house – hubby is in charge of the outside stuff – it may still be up for Mardi Gras at the rate he’s going.
DANA: Your menu for today sounds much yummier than mine!! Can I come to your house?
HEART: Good to see you – how have you been? Weekends are bad for me too – I hope to be able to make it through my first one with no problems!
SOLLY: I’m with you on the crock pot! I love it and I need chicken recipes too so if you get any good ones let me know – and I’ll do the same!!
MONET: Kaeleb must be getting so big! I hope you enjoyed your day with him!
TONI: I’m so happy to hear that your baby is home! What wonderful news. That chicken taco stew sounds good – I’m gonna try it! I’ll let you know what I think!
SLOW: I have that same problem – once I cheat – it’s all over with! I have a hard time getting back on plan. I’m going to try to do better with that this go round.
LOSING: I tend to eat too many starches at times and I do much better when I “protein load.” If I don’t notice a move on the scale I lay off of the starches for a few days so that I can see some movement.
CHRGRL: All of this talk about smoothies is making me want one – what do you put in yours?
BETH: HEY!!!!! Long time no see my friend! How are you? I look forward to catching up!
WANTS: I wish I weighed 140 – then I’d be too skinny! HAHA! I think my right leg weighs 140 all by itself! I started with my water today too!
THIN: Hey my friend! We went back to work Friday – teacher inservice day. Kids came back today. We have a couple of 4 day weeks this month which will be nice….Parent teacher conference day and MLK day. Then – we have time off for Mardi Gras. When do y’all get out? I think our last day is May 22nd.
Well, I’m off to watch the second half of the game! Wish the tigers luck!
BOB, SOLLY, FILLISE: Who are y’all rootin for?!?!
See y’all tomorrow!

FRUIT - Hey there friend!!! It's great to see you are still hanging out here! Congrats on avoiding the cake!! It's been a while, but the wagon circled around my house and I jumped back on!! Been going strong since the 31st (didn't want it to be a new year's resolution, so technically I started it last year.. lol) I needed a good :frypan: to get me back in gear!!
MONET - Thanks so much! I hope your doc gets things all straightened out for you!! I know one thing, this one is gonna bust my butt!! He is the type who makes you come in regularly and be accountable for what you're doing (or NOT doing!) and that's exactly what I need!! I have a re-check in a month and you better believe he'll do more bloodwork to see if I'm fibbing! It's a great motivator to stay OP, cause you know how nasty it is to start those BG regulating meds on the tummy! I don't wanna start all over in that beginning stage again... ewwwwww! You sound so busy with all the pottery, I'd love to see some of your work! You sound like you really enjoy doing it, though, and that makes ALL the difference doesn't it?
You know... I'm not sure if I even told you all that I got another promotion in July of last year... I got promoted to the Accounting Division (still at the Sheriff's Department). It was a 10% raise, better hours, and an office with just 3 of us that only we have a key to, so no nosy people in our stuff. :dizzy: I do payroll for all 300+ employees as well as accounts receivable/payable and keep up with all the personnel files/transactions. It's about 5 times the work I was doing before, but the atmosphere is so much nicer that I don't mind the extra work! I actually look forward to going to work!!
Well I'm off to bed after one last drink of water. I feel like a 2 year old most nights, can't sleep through the night!! I know I shouldn't drink so close to bedtime, but I'm thirsty and I can't fall asleep thirsty.. LOL
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!!

Hello everyone. We're having horrible weather here in Missouri. The tornados are everywhere along with hail, rain, etc. Glad we got a new roof.
Everyone is doing so good. Its inspiring.
SMW- Good you passed on the sweets. Once I get going I can't stop.
Mercee- I got a new slow cooker to. I don't use mine near enough and I want to try those liner things Solly told me about. If you find a good recipe let us know.
Ray- Your son is right. I feel this same way about me. I've got to get on this and quit messing around. Lets do it......
chrgrl- Your menu looks great. I need to eat more. Those snacks look great.
Beth- Congrads on the loss way to go girl!!!!! And thats so good you got a promotion. Sounds like you're working your butt off.
Monet - It was wonderful talking to my son. I can't wait to see him Feb. 2nd at the surprise party. How did the teapot come out?
Thin- Yum your chicken and sweet tater fries sound so good.
Missy- Whoopie good to see you. You can do this........
Thank you all so much for the well wishes about my son.

Yesterday's menu:
Breakfast: Cheerios (I know, not 100% legal, but still 'good' for you) with half a banana and an orange
Lunch: Pita stuffed with lettuce and turkey
Dinner: Boneless chicken breast cooked iwth Shake n Bake with a very small baked potato and a nice salad
Snack: A few pretzels
Water: about five glasses
As you can see, I'm not 100% SB here...I just trying to eat sensibly. The family just loves potatoes and I think, as long as I keep it to a minimum, I can have a little, too. Although, they do mess with your sugar levels, I think they're good for you as long as you don't load them up with crap. I'm just trying to keep this time around stick-to-it-able....if you know what I mean. If I can't keep them to a minimum and once in a while, though, the potatoes are out.

fruitloupe, my smoothies are usually frozen strawberries (fresh ones that i cut and freeze, not ones that come frozen (they just don't taste right)), skim milk, cinnamon, and some splenda. delicious! i've been using them as my after dinner snack when i get the "bedtime munchies"...all the air keeps me full until bedtime.

Fruitie - good on you girlfriend!!!! Your first NO to many......
Last night I ran for 40 minutes and then weightlifted. Wow - I NEVER go out at night!!
I stuck to food plan like a movie star.
Today --- BREAKFAST:
Quinoa - holy smokes what a great discovery!!! Absolutely delish and packed with protein!!!
LUNCH:
I'm keeping it simple today - just a protein shake with no sugar and an orange.
DINS:
veggies and protein of some kind
Snack:
nuts 'cause I'm nuts.

Gosh, what a bum I have become! I just woke up! Tom brought me some espresso and I had a devil of a time waking up to drink it.
I am meeting a young potter for lunch. She is vegan, so we will go to a vegetarian restaurant. I looked up the one she suggested, and unfortunately it is closed on Tuesdays! Bummer!
I have been re-reading the Montignac Method, which is the plan Sugarbusters was based on. It has been very interesting, and inspiring. He is French, and a bit haughty, but he explains the reasons for why you do and don't eat certain things very well. I looked for my Sugarbusters book and I can't find it. I may have lent it to someone who did not return it. I did find my SB shopping guide though...
I will have to do my individual replies this afternoon, as I am out of time this morning! :o

Good afternoon ladies,
DH & took the dog for a walk last night. we got about 2 miles and he walked at a rapid pace. Then DD wanted to walk after dinner. So we walked to the store to get some SF icecream. So that was about 4 miles I walked. My feet hurt today. Back to the gym tonight. It was 72 here yesterday and 70 today but very windy. I think I'm in Kansas!
Missy, So glad to see you posting again. I was pulling for the tigers, but got a little worried at the start of the game. I really thought LSU will beat them worse than they did. Congrats on the win. We need to see some new pics of the kiddies.
Toni, I am so glad your son is home safe and sound. I know you must have some peace of mind now. Hold on to that new roof! It is so warm here and we are supposed to get severe weather tonight. Probably your stuff. You have to wait until Feb 2nd to see your son?
Ray, I feel much better and like myself better. I lot 105 on SB and then got breast cancer and gained about 30 back. So now I want to lose about 30-35 more.
Slow Moving, we all have those times. You just need to think about it before you eat it and ask yourself which is more important, that no-no or losing wt. Put it behind you and start again.
Donna, Staying the same is ok. Next week you will see a loss. Limiting the carbs to 2 will help.
Danasgirl, 70% or 80% chocolate bars are ok. I buy Lindt brand 80%. Just a square or 2 a day though.
Chrgrl, good job finding something to substitute for your snack. At least you didn't grab something bad.
Beth, Congrats on your loos. You are back on track. Congrats on your promotion. It means a lot when you like going to work.
Wantsittowork, Welcome to our group. You have to want it to work and stay on track. No cheating. I went for almost 8 months w/o one cheat and once I did, I couldn't stop sneaking things in. You need to decide what you want hte most.
Thin, Our schools went back today. Enjoy your last day.
Tech, exactly what I told my DD, Sometimes you have to eat things that you crave or due to the situation. As long as you make sensible choices and moderation you are ok.
Monet, I am sleepy today too. I haven't slept much the last 2 nights so last night I took a sleeping pill and only got up 1 time to potty. But I was droggy today. Let us know if you find out anything good info.

Hi Solly,
I hope your breast cancer is gone??? Wow you have been through a lot lot lot!!
Do you now think like a thin person. Do you suddenly stop in the middle of nowhere and feel yourself :) your new thin body?
I have been asking myself some pretty deep questions and reflecting on a lot of things.
I think diets and dieting do NOT work for me finally after 1,000 tries. Because they have no meaning in a greater context. I must find meaning in why I want to lose weight and I think disease prevention is enough so that I have good quality of life if I'm going to live until 100 or to be a moving target for disease so I can stick around long enough for my son to have kids....I know it's not quite so easy but I do have a choice in how and even if I care about myself that much....and that I don't have to be a glutton when others would literally eat what I throw away....no no no it's time for me to be grateful!!!!

Good afternoon all. We had the storm of storms last night and we think a tornado took a trip through our little town. When Steve got to the top of the hill this morning after work there was a big tree across it. He had to go to the sheriff's dept. in town to get a road crew out here to cut it. We live a mile down the hill so thank goodness it stayed up on top. This morning was peanut butter ww toast for breakfast. Its past lunch time now and I'm getting hungry.
Tech- Sometimes it works to just stay in moderation. I usually have a baked sweet tater to sub for the yummy white tater.
chrgrl- Your smoothie sounds good too. I need to freeze me some strawberries when they come in season this year.
Monet- You know you make me want to get out my SB book and read it. I think I lent my Montignac out or something with it. Cause its not around anymore. But a refresher might do me some good. Have a good lunch. Yummy.
Solly- Gosh girl you're getting in the exercise. I'm still trying to dig my treadmill out from the remodeling. You make me feel ashamed I'm not trying harder but this week has been a bust cause I've drank wine. Yep I have to wait till the second to see my son. They live in Texas so it isn't a close drive for us. I'll be so excited. When the surprise party happens my oldest boy will be there to so I'll finally have both my boys together.
Ray- Health is a good reason for me to lose weight. I have coronary artery disease and have had a triple bypass and a carotid surgery. I feel tired all the time and it would make me feel better also. Plus I would look so much better but dieting for me doesn't work. Eating healthy for life does.
Well on my way. A friend coming for tea this afternoon. Will check back later.

Hey! It's great to "see" everyone doing so well with their plan!!! I'm very excited...Today when I got to work there was an e-mail from one of our PE coaches. We are going to do a school wide challenge to "meet our New Year's Goals". We will be teamed up in groups of six and given points based on how well we do. Everyone can follow their own plan of choice-SB,WW,etc. Points are given for drinking 64 oz of water daily, 30 min of aerobic exercise, strength training and pounds lost. We will go through April 20, so 14 weeks. I put in my name because I think it will help to be accountable to someone else and it sound fun. The team with the most points at the end gets a prize!! I have been close to 100% legal for three days now and it looks like I am down a few pounds already. I'll post my loss on Monday!

Hey Buds!
2 days on plan for me!! WHOOP WHOOP! I have to admit though….I”m starving and I’m having withdrawls! I want a huge 32 oz fountain coke so badly – but I’m not doing it!!!!
The TIGERS won last night! How exciting. I actually stayed up until the first few minutes of the 3rd quarter then I crashed! HA! I need my sleep. Blake actually slept really well last night. He got up at 1:15 for a bottle and then slept until 5:45 this morning. Lately it seems like he wakes up a lot – not that he wants to play or anything – he wakes up, fusses, I get up to pat him until he goes back to sleep - then it takes me 20 minutes to fall back to sleep. He’s been killing me! Hopefully, now that we’ve started veggies he’ll be a little fuller and not wake as often. Thankfully, Lexie is a good sleeper. I would hate to have her wake up during the night too. Now, next month when I move him from our room to his, he may wake her when he cries at night – hopefully he’ll be sleeping all night by then. By the way…he is 5 months old today!! Time sure does fly!
BETH: I pop in every now and then just to visit but I haven’t been doing the plan for a long time now. I’ve just started back up. I actually had a baby in August so I’ve been quite busy. We have a 2 year old too – we have been fostering her since Oct. of 2005(she was 3 months when we got her) and our adoption will be final January 29th. FINALLY! SO, needless to say – with the little ones, I’ve been leading a fast food lifestyle! Well, I’m so happy to see you back! BOB sure can be a pain with that WAGON but it always brings people back “home” where they belong! Was Rocky Top playing when she picked you up? HAHA! BTW congrats on the promotion!
TONI: I’m so glad you weren’t hit by any of those tornados – I saw them talking about them on the news!! How scary!! That was a close call though!!
TECH: What good is a potato if it isn’t loaded up with crap?!?! That’s the best!!
CHRGRL: That sounds yummy – I’m gonna give it a whirl! I need something at this time too – you know – to replace the holiday oreos I’ve been stuffing my face with lately! Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow!
RAY: WTG with the exercise. I’ve been walking with friends in the mornings before school. We walk the halls. I figure if I get 10- 20 minutes in every day – its more than I was doing before!
MONET: I should probably do some re-reading myself. I have one of those shopping guides too – I need to find that sucker!! I sure could use some help!
SOLLY: Yeah…I was worried at the beginning of the game too – what was that?!?! I’m glad things worked themselves out and they showed up! WTG on the walking. I’m excited these days if I can get 10-20 minutes in!! It’s pretty hot and muggy here too. I’m ready for the cool weather and for it to stay cool!
RAY: Good reflection. Obviously diets don’t work for me because I have such a hard time sticking to it. I need to do this for myself and my family. It’s so hard chasing after the kids being this big. I’m miserable. But, yet, I still want that coke!! What is that?!?! I just don’t get it. Hopefully I see some decent movement on the scale soon and that will really motivate me!
DANA: Hey! Don’t work too hard!! I could probably eat my fingers to the bone right now I’m so hungry!
THIN: The schoolwide contest sounds like fun! Just be sure to motivate the people on your team so they don’t cheat!! We walk the halls at our school in the morning – me and 2 other ladies – so I’m hoping that helps me a little.
Well, I’m off to bed before I eat something I shouldn’t!!
See y’all tomorrow!

Just a fly by! I have been going all day long! I met a young potter from Etsy today for lunch. I had mango tofu...and skipped the rice! It was really good! Then we came here so she could see my garagio...and I took her back to the train station. Then I made chicken breasts, ww pasta and broccoli for dinner. I did really well today on eating...and I got in a walk this afternoon with Tom! We took Kaeleb in the stroller. It was gorgeous out.
I wanted to do replies, but now it will have to wait until tomorrow. Tom has a conference tomorrow ...which might be good for networking. He has had a number of recruiters call so things are happening, but it will take a few weeks probably. :( I am getting up in the morning to make the espresso...so I will check in after he leaves!
Good night! Sweet dreams!

Good Morning ladies,
Got in 30 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of upper body at the gym last night. My cupboards are so bare I can't wait to get to the grocery tonight. Don't know what we are having for supper. Something quick I can get at the store.
I just want to say that it is so nice to have all the newbies with us, not only do we have lots pof posts, but it is very motivating. You all are excited about doing this and that rubs off on us oldies. Hope you all do well and stay with us.
Ray of Light, Thank you, I am almost a 4 year survivor and hope to add many to that number. I try to think like a thin person (whatever that really is) but do we ever get that image of the fat person we always have been out of our minds? Do we every ook thin enough? I think the best part of losing all that weight was being able to buy young, stylish clothes. As I went from the plus size to an XL was a triumph. Then as I crept downward the thrill increased. I will say that has also been the motivation for my DD who has lost 30 lbs. She is wearing such cute clothes now and loving it. Infact we spends way too much on clothes. I agree, dieting does not work, it has to be a life style change and you have to want it. Health issues are a reallity now. Overweight women are so at risk for heart problems, diabetes, and as I can tstify, breast cancer. That is why I am on both of my girls to get the weight off now while they are young. They are really at hight risk for BC since I have head it, their grandmother and great grandmother. Reach for that star, you can do it.
Toni, that is a bummer. At least you know he is afe and sound so I guess that makes the wait easier. Glad the tornado missed your new roof. We got some bad winds and rain but that was all. We had watches until bedtime but no tornados. I watch the BL last night too. It is so sad that someone has to go home when it is so good for them. I don't think I could work out with those trainers.
Dana, I have been trying to get my DD to try bringing a wrap for lunch. She loves them. I am going to to store tonight to get all the ingredientes.
Laurie, funny how burgers are our staple food. I had mine w/o the bun, but nothing better than a big dressed burger.
Thin, what a great idea. I am sure it will motivate you to stick to the plan and exercise. I wish more places would do something like that. My DD's school has WW come there.
Chrgrl, Just a note to you and all other newbies, the ww grain tortilla shells must be 80 calories to count as one carb. If more calories, then you have to count them as more starchy carbs. In general, a starchy carb is 80 calories. I have to admit, I was crying right along with those people onthe BL last night.
Missy, get yourself a big DIET coke. If you drink enough of them, you won't want a regular one. You need to do this for your kids, and to teach them how to eat right. Maybe you could get your school to do something like Thin's. Walking in them orning is great though. Anything is better than nothing.
Monet, good luck to Tom. I am sure he will find something soon. He is too good of a guy not to.
Better get my day started. I had to go in at 7:15 to get my lab work drawn already. Have ag reat OP day.

Good morning all! How are you? I am great. It has been un seasonably warm here in NC. As I was coming to work, I had noticed a tree has blooms on it already. Isn't that kind of strange for January? I know it has been warm, but WOW!!!
Fruitloupe: I think I wanted to eat my fingers to the bone when my hubbie, who can eat ANYTHING and never gain weight, decided to eat some bojangles in front of me. I dont like fried chicken, but their fries...... fries are my weakness! He is the same size he was when we met 10 years ago!
Chrgrl: It is funny that you said that about the biggest loser. We were saying the same thing. Especially about the phone cards. The brown team cried when they lost, they cried when they got the phone card. There was no end to their tears!
Ray of light: No, no machine. I would love to have one. We have Time warner cable. They have Exercise TV on Demand, so you can order (free) workouts. They have different selections. They even have Taebo work outs. I can't hang with Taebo. I can't do all of that heavy working out. I was in an accident years ago and it left me with pins and screws in my hip and knee on my left side and chipped bones in my right ankle. Pilates is about the easiest thing I can do without any impact on my joints. I also work my fingers to the bone in the tax department in the un employment office!

Danasgirl: I use the exercise on demand also. I use their walk videos. I just started going to the gym again I'm working hard to make a routine of it.

Good morning. Well I got on the scales and have only lost 1/2 lb. this week. I'm really stuggling here. For some reason I'm having a hard time in the evening. And I don't think I'm eating enough. Yesterday was my 20th anniversery. This week end we'll go out to dinner to celebrate. But Steve had to work last night.
Missy- Yea for making it two days... You can do this.:cheer2: You've done it before and you can do it again. I'm having a horrible time getting back on track. I want to eat at night. I want to snack all day..... Hope Blake gives you some rest..
Monet- Sounds like you had an all around great day.... How nice for you and Tom to get to walk your Grandbaby. Those are such precious moments. I'm praying for him to get a job soon.
Solly- Yum a wrap sounds so good. Did you get the stuff for it last night? And did you make one for today? I've never made one but it sounds so good. Dang you're doing so good. You're such an inspiration. Oh my gosh you just reminded me I've got to go have lab work.
danasgirl- Just think when you don't have the fries you're building willpower. Its making you stronger knowng you can live in this world and pass those things by. After awhile it won't bother you. The weather has been warmer here to. It doesn't even feel like January. Hope it holds out till I make a little trip the first of Febuary.
chrgrl- Yippee Ki Ah for losing those lbs. You've done great... I'm sorry I can't explain how to change that ticker. We need Monet...... I love Biggest Loser and felt bad for the brown team leaving but I think they were the right ones to go. I know that yellow team can do better.
Ray- You're a shinning light. Your menu looks good and your exercise sounds great. You go girl.
Mercee- That made a nice little day for you. Getting a break from work. We sure are busy here I agree. Hope you got lots of healthy stuff from the store.
Well I'm off to finish my coffee. Be back later....

Pilates is for you it sounds like after your accident!!!!
I hear nothing but good stuff about pilates. I once tried TaiBo but sent the stuff back - I was so not in the zone then.......no Billy Blanks has a new scheme - he's pretty billiant - mind you he looks powerful but a little thick in the waist this go-around - maybe he's eating small children.

Menu update:
Yesterday for breakfast:
Cheerios with half a banana on top
LUnch: skipped it...it was so busy in the shop I didn't have time :)
Dinner: Homemade pizza - one slice with water
Snack: Two fists full of popcorn
Today:
Breakfast: Cheerios with half a banana and an orange
Lunch: Chicken souvlaki with an apple
Dinner: Uh...haven't gotten there yet.
Yesterday at the shop was SWAMPED!! The weather was warm and I think it brought people out of the woodwork. I didn't sit down all day longer than it took to pee. Today, it was really, really windy (schools started shutting down it was so bad) and I didn't have anyone. Go figure. At least I had time for Derek to make me a souvlaki for lunch!! Tonight I have to thaw out some sort of meat and probably team it with a salad.
Okay...have to go be with the family. TTFN!!

Breakfast was peanut butter ww toast and OJ. Lunch was two South Beach wraps and a rasberry sf jello. Need some veggies so I'll be sure and have a couple tonight.
Tech- Yippee for a swamped shop.. I guess that wind kept everyone inside. You've got to tell me what the heck chicken souvlaki is?
Ray- Laughing so hard at your song. Thanks......
Slow- Thanks for the encouragement. We can do this.
Off I go to get some green tea and a nanner.

Souvlakis are a greek dish. Made with Pita bread, stuffed with lettuce, tomatoes and chicken that has been sauteed with something like italian dressing. Then you sprinkle some feta cheese in it as well. I also put some italian dressing or vinegar and olive oil. Also good on it is the oil they put on subs, but you should be sure it's made with olive oil. In the greek restaurants, they also have a sauce you put on it called Tiziki (not even close to being spelled right) that is a white sauce with dill in it that is to DIE for. Go to a Greek restaurant and ask for a Souvlaki sandwich...the dinner is just the salad with the meat and the pita on the side. So good and light but filling. They also have them in beef, but we prefer the chicken. And only slightly illegal with the pita unless you use WW pitas. I figure with the lettuce and tomatoes and chicken, a little white pita won't hurt...especially at lunchtime.

I'm 53 and I find if I get too crazy with exercise my joints kill me. So what I'm doing now is starting slow (I started with 10 min. of walking two weeks ago) and I add a minute each week, so now I'm up to 12 min. It's not that much yet, but eventually I'll be up to 30 min. a day. I'm also doing some "yoga for seniors" and a little strength training. I'm adding more of those each week too.
Are any of you over 50? What do you do for exercise?

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!
Today was my late day, and I got home at 6:30 p.m.!!!!! I'm so tired because we were so busy! Not a good day for all of us. One of the DOC'S nurses was in a really bad accident just about a mile from the office. A truck pulled out in front of her and her car was totaled. She has a bad crushed ankle (one of the Doc's is operating on her as I type), a fractured L1 vertabre, fractured wrist and just generally banged up all over. She's such a sweet person. She'll be ok, but a long healing process. THEN...just about 4:30 p.m. they walked into one of the Ladies office and litteraly said "You're fired...the Doctor's don't like your work!" Now this is a person who works her arse off and does the scheduling for MRI's and ESI's for both suites. TEN DOCS....she does a good job....we were stunned! Makes me jumpy...They didn't like it when I was sick with the flu before Christmas and my Boss talked to me about it....after what happened to me at the Hospital, just scares me!
Here is my recipe for the GREEK YOGURT...I love it...hope y'all do!
TZATZIKI
========
This is a very versatile Greek sauce/dip/salad dressing.
Ingredients:
------------
4 cups GREEK YOGURT,...if you can get Greek yogurt, it's better. it's already really thick and you don't have to drain it.
2 or 3 large cucumbers, peeled and seeded
Salt
2 to 4 garlic cloves (or more to taste)
1 tblsp fresh lemon juice
1 tblsp high quality olive oil
Optional:
---------
freshly ground pepper
1/4 cup freshly chopped mint leaves (or to taste)
Instructions:
-------------
Line a sieve with either a double thickness of dampened cheesecloth or
linen tea towel. Spoon in yogurt and set the sieve over a bowl.
Refrigerate for two to three hours or until yogurt is about half its
volume, nicely thick and creamy.
Shred or cut cucumber into julienne strips. Place in a colander in sink
or over a bowl, sprinkle generously with salt, mix well and let drain
for at least 30 minutes, preferably an hour. Rinse and gently pat dry.
Press the garlic into a bowl and, using a fork, mash it with a little
bit salt. Add the thickened yogurt, cucumber, lemon juice, olive oil,
and if desired, the pepper and mint. Mix well. Serve or refrigerate up
to two days so flavors will mingle. Stir again before serving and
sprinkle with additional minced mint leaves if desired.
Recipe may be cut in half.
I made a batch of DEB'S HUMMUS the other day. OH...MY... GAWD!!!! IS IT GOOD!
There is no way I can get in there and answer everyone tonight...I feel as though I could crawl up in the FOUR POSTER and be asleep in no time!
SLOWMOVING WOMAN...I did want to welcome you to our SEC CLACK....We've got a while before FOOTBALL SEASON starts again, but it's good to know we have one more to add to the roster. MONET will be glad to have someone on her side!

Good evening all..... I just had a great salad for dinner. Lettuce, chicken, 1/2 avocado, bell pepper, onion, tomato, mushrooms, ranch dressing and sunflower seeds. Yum it was delicious. Eating has been pretty good today. Can I make it through the night? LOL
Bob- You sound so tired tonight. I can tell you're dragging. How horrible for the woman in the wreck. Thats so sad. And the poor woman that lossed her job in such an awful way. Eat a good meal and relax. The greek yogurt sounds so good. And I've been want Hummus and I'm going to make some this week end.
chrgrl- Your food sounds good. You're sailing right along. Good for you. I didn't realize butternut squash was high in GI. I've always eaten it.
Donna- When I start on the treadmill thats how I do it. It takes me forever to get to 20 min. on it. But its the only way I can exercise. I'm 59.
Joanna- Good evening
Tech- That sounds just yummy. I've never had any greek food and here's two good suggestions.
Off to read my new Living Well book by Montel Williams. Its started off interesting.

Hi All - I've had a horrid week, but have "sneaked a peak" at the postings, just haven't taken the time to post. I have eaten more than I should have - all "legal", just too much of it. The scales were kind, though - no weight gain at least. I'm still the same as last week. This week I'll watch the portion size better and cut back on the carbs a bit more.
I need to go back and print out some of your great looking recipes - especially BOB's lasagna. That will be a good one to serve during the football games this weekend.
Ya'll take care -

MORNING EVERY BUDDY!!
YOU UP MONET????? I woke up at 5 a.m. and decided to just get on up!
I slept so good last night and I think that's the reason I'm up so early. I went to sleep sometime around 10 p.m. which is early for me. Just hope this doesn't hit me this afternoon!
SNAP....You can make the LASAGNA using whole wheat noodles. They are hard to find down my way, but they would make the recipe more SB friendly.
I hope you like it. It's the best, and as I said....TOTALLY ITALIAN!!!
TONI...I was exhausted last night. More mentally than anything. When something like that happens, it effects the whole office, not just the unfortunate one that gets the boot. I really like the Lady that this happened to so that makes it harder!
Did you find anything more about the possible twister after Steve encountered the tree? Did you see on the news about the 84 car pile up
that happened down here? It was so sad. I-4 is still closed today and they are saying that the fog caused the wreck. NOT!!!! They had done a "controlled burn" in the area that got out of hand and the smoke was horrible....when the fog settled, that made it worse. It's bad that anyone had to die, but amazing that the number was only 4.
How's your BABY BOY adjusting? I would say the time change would be one of the hardest to realize. Is he married or there with you and Steve?
I bet you hug him every time you pass close enough to do so!
MONET....got any pictures of that colored porcelain you worked with?
Where is James this week? Hope he didn't have to go into all that snow up East!
DONNA...I'm 55 so I can relate with that joint thing! We're not SPRING CHICKENS anymore!
OK...I've got to start getting ready for work...I'll YAK at y'all this afternoon!

Well yesterday wasn't too bad. It was hard resisting candy and pastries at work. Big office always snacks around. I went through a whole lot of sugar free mints...lol
Eating was pretty good all day.
Breakfast: egg w/low fat cheese.
snack: protein bar.
Lunch: turkey deli slices w/ cheese (OK so I'm a rat...love my cheese..lol)
Dinner was a patty made out of ground turkey and some steamed spinach (grated parmesian...yep...you guessed it cheese)
Went to choir practice...came home and motivated myself to do a 4 mile walk tape even though it was almost 9pm (oh my joints are is shock today)
Drank a glass of red wine... (44 on the glycemic index...good for your heart and soul).
Now todays challenge is that our dept is going out to eat lunch, Mexican food <sigh> I think I will eat just the meat portion & the beans, skip the rice and the tortillas <oooooh the tortillas...>
Hope everyone has a great day

Morning! I slept well last night...and Tom did not wake me up to make him espresso before he left for his conference. I would have slept later, but some charity looking for old clothes, etc. called at 8am! I should have told them to take me off their list for that.
ROSIE:Wine is fine, but Montignac says never to drink it on an empty stomach, to have it with meals. Good luck at the Mexican restaurant. How about a taco salad and leave the shell??
DANASGIRL: :bravo: Wow! Five pounds is a GREAT start!
BOB: No pictures yet of the colored porcelain work. When they are done, I will try and post a picture. I hope you are taking vitamin C and eating oranges to keep your immune system up.
Off to get some breakfast, and then to the garagio! I hope to throw today!

Mornin'
Donna: I'm 51. I remember when I was 23 years old I was reading COSMOPOLITAN magazine and there were all these articles on AGING and what to do at 30, 40, 50 and this was what was going to happen to your body. It was so depressing and right then I decided to never get OLD. :) :) :) And I mean getting old by THINKING old and acting old and using OLD as an excuse for not doing things.......there seems to be almost an expectancy that we ALL will have these overweight square bodies and that's just not so!!! And we don't have to be depressed or cranky either :) At my work, I can't believe it, I am in better shape and fitter than my 25 year old coworker who works out for pete's sake........and I had a race up the stairs with my other 29 year coworker who was absolutely blue in the face and gasping.......
I know I sound boastful but I get really nuts when people BEHAVE old when they are not!!!!!

01-10-2008, 05:55 PM
Toni - thanks for the hint about the amount of Lasagna. I plan to make two pans, but we will have a crowd for the football games this weekend.
BOB - I found some whole wheat lasagna noodles at the local Co-op. They SWEAR that they taste good (but I will hold judgement and will let you know)
We got out the bread machine and made a loaf of whole wheat bread this morning. I put ingredients in and set the timer to have the bread ready for dinner tonight. Hopefully, it will be ok. This is my first attempt with all "legal" ingredients - except for a wee bit of molasses - I even used sugar free honey!
I haven't had the energy to begin working on the sourbread yet.
I'm all geared up for the beginning of a new semester at work and will have a class from 3 pm - 9 pm! I believe that is criminal! but oh well!! I normally give the class a 30 minute break about 6 so we can all grab a bite to eat & keep the energy flowing - only this time my "bite" won't be a quarter pounder, fries and a coke! Yesterday, I went to Wendy's - got a cheeseburger with a side salad. Threw away the bun and cut up the burger and cheese on the salad with about a teaspoon of Ranch dressing. yum-yum and legal, too.

Oh my gosh I made juice with my new juicer it was so icky. It was romaine lettuce, cabbage, celery, carrot, piece of cucumber and a big apple. I didn't like the sweetness of the apple and I'm not crazy about the carrot. Will try something different tomorrow.

work has been stressful, which makes me grumpy, which makes me want to eat. i'm trying to resist.
breakfast:
steel cut oats with cinnamon and 1 packet splenda (i finally learned how to make these! i had been trying to do it in the microwave and ended up basically just eating dry steel cut oats that had hot water poured over them. this time i made 4 servings in the oven (1 cup oats, 4 cups water, 1 tsp salt in large covered pot in oven on 300 degrees for one hour) and will just heat up one serving at a time)
snack:
orange
lunch:
salad with iceberg lettuce (no romaine today..the hospital salad bar failed me!), chickpeas, black olives, sunflower seeds, and ranch dressing
SF pudding
snack:
1 oz almonds
dinner:
butternut squash in olive oil and seasoning (this is my last butternut squash now that i know it's a high GI food)
light string cheese
i also made a smoothie with 1/2 cup skim milk, ice cubes, 1 T almond butter, 1 packet splenda, and some cinnamon. it's currently in the freezer (i'm hoping it'll be like ice cream). we'll just see how it tastes.
Toni, i think i'll try to make that stew recipe you posted a few pages back this weekend...it looks good!

Well eating has been pretty good. I had taco soup for dinner and I made a loaf of flax and oat bread. It was a package mix I got online from the Bakers catalog. I made it part in the bread maker and then baked it in the oven in a loaf pan. I don't like how it looks when I make it in the machine. I just had some with peanut butter on it.
chrgrl- Your food looks good. Can't wait to find out how the stew comes out. Guess I'll make a roast tomorrow in the crockpot.

Hii all. Didn't have a great day yesterday - still trying to get over my 2 month-long cold and yesterday I was coughing so much I had a horrible headache. I also ate popcorn and cheese and corn tortilla chips and cheese. Had to sleep sitting up on the couch last night to keep from coughing. Doing better today - trying to breath slowly and calmly so nothing triggers the cough!
Have a question for those of you with diabetes. I have a friend coming over Wed. afternoon. She has diabetes and I'm trying to figure out what to have for a snack. Any suggestions?
Hope you all have a good weekend!

Just a quickie post to say hello to everyone! We had some really nasty severe weather here yesterday and I kept my computer unplugged so I didn't get to check in! I've been going to Curves 3 times a week and eating well with the exception of ONE cheat so far since New Years!! ( I had a piece of Domino's pizza... it's soooooo yummy!!)
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well... I'm off to finish up some work and head to Curves before heading home and taking the kids to dinner. I promised them last night we could go out to eat tonight. I'll pick something legal!!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!! :grouphug:

Happy Friday,
I'm sorry but it is nuts here and I have not time to hardly read or do replies. I hope next week will be better.
Got in a great work out at the gym last night. I have my food planned for the weekend so I won't be eating out or being bad. Will probably have 2 glasses of wine at happy hour tonight. I will be good.
Toni, that juice just sounds nasty.
Carrie Ann, I will send you a personal reply soon.
Have a great OP weekend everyone. Let's try to make it a legal weekend for those who struggle thru them.

Just passing though too today. I don't know where the day has went. Ate 2 slices of homemade bread for breakfast. And I've got a roast and some cabbage in the crockpot along with a few taters for Steve. It smells so good. I'll probably have another veggie with that.
:welcome: Carrie Ann......
Sorry theres not time for replies.

Have a great weekend everybody and stay strong! :) We can do this together and make it to the finish line with much success! We just have to remember, if we get off track to just get right back on track the very next meal.
My week eating wise could have been a bit better but there is a whole weekend ahead of me to get out there and excercise and MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!

Well, I'm glad this week is over!! Next week we start our challenge and I am my team's captain.:drill: I have to hand out our charts on Mondays and report our points for the week. No big deal, but it should be fun!
I have done well this week and it sounds like you all are doing great too! We went to MIL last night and you newbies don't know, but she always has goodies and No-no's around. well, last night she had a freshly baked homemade pound cake that I'm sure was to die for, but I did not have even a crumb!:carrot: Neither did Sean (my son). She said " I thought you liked pound cake" He said "I do, I just don't want any" I hope we did not hurt her feelings, but I need to take care of me now. You know?

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!
"NEWS ALERT!!!!!"
I've changed jobs.....same company, but I'll be scheduling for two DOCS and there WON'T BE ANY STRESS!!!!! Started today....I'll be working 4 days a week (in order to keep my insurance and retirement). The Lady I was working with spent her time blaming me for EVERYTHING that was wrong, saying things to the DOCS and talking about me behind my back and then kissing up to me to my face. She has had 3 different people work with her including me, but I stuck it out the longest. My Boss realized this and offered this other job to me. I'm excited about this. It's in our other suite downstairs. I'm off Saturday, Sunday and Monday and then work the other four days. I'm figuring money wise, I'll probably bring home about the same $$$ because of lower taxes. No more late days, I'll be working 8 - 4:30. I'm' so excited!!!! Wish me luck!!!
TONI...I'll look for some recipes for your juicer. I've had some that were really good, and some that was really bad!
I'm sorry that you couldn't see your Son when he touched the ground, but it will be here before you know it...Is he home for good?
The WHOLE WHEAT NOODLES should be fine for the LASANA....I've never used them, but it just might put a KICK in it! Let me know! Just be sure to let it sit like it says after taking from the oven....it makes all the difference in the world....
BETH....HOW'S IT GOING GIRLFRIENR??????? I knew we could turn you into a FOOTBALL FAN!!
I'm off to watcH FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHT'S and VEGAS....Have a GREAT NIGHT!!

Evening...I worked in the garagio all day. I am not done. I have a lot of detail work left, but I did get a good bit done, so I feel good about it.
DONNA: Snacks for diabetics...seriously anything legal for Sugarbusters is ok for diabetics! Fruit would be nice, cheese with triscuits, nuts.. I hope that gives you some ideas!
BOB: Wow! Congrats on the new job! I will expect you to post more often now that you are not going to be working Mondays, and not stressed out from work! ;)

OK, I'm going to try some replies, you ladies know that I am not good at them!
Bob- Good luck on the new job. Yeah! No more Mondays!!!:dancer:
Missy- We don't get out till May 30 this year, but we still have breaks in feb and April, so it's not that bad. I noticed yesterday on our "challenge" wall that there was a map with two different walking circuits around the school. One is 1/8 mile and the other is 1/4 mile. I work at a very large school!!:running:
Monet-it sounds like you have been a very busy potter lately! Any more news on the job front for Tom?
wants-I need to work on the exercise too. Hopefully I can MOVE some this weekend! I have two teens and somehow use driving them around as an excuse for not making time to do anything else!
chrgrl- Haope you enjoy the hockey game!
losing- Hope you get to feeling better soon! That lingering cough is the worst!
Ray- I have been trying to remind myself of the same things about suger. If it makes me feel so yucky, why do I keep wanting it so?:dunno:
carrie- good luck! I'm over 200 and still trying too!
Mercee- I have a bread maker too. I'm going to make some ww bread later today. I made some last Monday, but it is all gone now. I usually take some as a sandwich for lunch as work.
Snaps- I'd love to see the new bread recipe too, when you get it just perfect of course!! I bet it's yummy!
Toni- I transfer my bread to my own loaf pans for baking too. I can make it a better size for us that way.
Beth- I love the saying in your signature. It's very true!!
Solly- Last weekend was the first semi legal weekend I'd had in a while, and I hope to do just as well this weekend.
Boy! We have a lot of members now! I hope I did not forget anyone. If I didi please know that it is not intentional!! Please stick around everybody and don't leave us!! I'm going to try to be around more than I was in the last couple of months too.
Have a great weekend everyone!!:grouphug:

Hi! I am new to this site AND this is the first time I have ever joined in a "chat". I am 52 years old, about 30 pounds overweight, and have just been told by my doc that I have "elevated sugar" and need to go on a low sugar diet. Did he give me one to follow? no. Can any of you help and tell me just what I should and shouldn't eat??
chrgrl
01-12-2008, 06:15 PM
SmileyRoma: in a nutshell, no sugar (except for natural sugars in fruit/milk), no white flour, white rice, white or red potatoes, corn. Some people also avoid bananas (except for greenish ones), pineapple, watermelon, and carrots.
You could probably find a Sugar Busters book at the local library. A lot of the diets popular now (such as You on a Diet) also have the same principles of avoiding processed foods and sugar.

Hello Everyone,
I came across this board last night--Read lots last night and decided to join.
My Quick Bio--Tomorrow is 6 weeks being on Sugar Busters, along with a low GI diet. I also Drink 3-4 servings of green tea, along with the suggested amt of water, (usually more) I exercise on average 7-8 hours per week..and about 2-3 of them are weight training.
Sounds great..How ever, for the last 3 weeks the scale doesn't move. hence why i decided to seek out a support system, or some tips or something.
I went from doing weight watchers to this. In 2/3 weeks I lost about 8 pounds. Then nothing. I eat just about nothing processed (I do have Murray choc chip cookies now and then) but for 98% of this time I have cooked everything from scratch. My sister is a nurse thinks im not eating enough, I think I eat more then enough (especially cause i don't get hungry much anymore)
So here i am frustrated..but not going up-And still going strong. Maybe the answer is simple. Maybe not. Any ideas as to what could be wrong? Here is a sample diet for the day!
Nothing I eat has sugar in it..so rather then list SF each time.im just including food items)
Breakfast-3/4 cooked oatmeal, I stevia, 1/8 syrup
Snack-2 pc whole wheat toast, jelly, Fruit
Lunch-4/5 oz chix or tuna Brown rice or cocous, lots of green veg
Snack 2 Wasa crackers, humus, fruit
Dinner-3/5 oz chix, or lean turkey burger, rice, veg
Dessert-Pudding, or Klondike bar, or cookies (those are 2/3 x a week not every night)
Give or take some items here and there, that is the gist of my every day diet.
And ideas?
From what i read so far this seems like the place to be--so im jumping on board here..LOL

i think some people may say to watch your intake of "starchy" carbs (oatmeal, crackers, rice, bread). SB says to limit them to 2-3 servings a day if you're trying to lose weight, and i think 1 serving is supposed to be no more than 80 calories.
or maybe you're building muscle and the scale isn't moving? are your clothes fitting better?
i did pretty good at the hockey game tonight...i had one bite of my husband's pretzel and one sip of his hot chocolate.

GOOD EARLY MORNING EVERY BUDDY!!
Climbed up in the four poster around 8 p.m. to watch TV, missed everything I wanted to see....evidently got enough sleep as I was up and moving about 2:30 a.m.
Got a really good JOHN WAYNE movie on the tube and sipping on my coffee.
MEESH...WELCOME to our little group! I hadn't thought of eating my hummus on WASA...I'll have to try that....I agree with CHRGRL...you're probably building muscle. You really need to find a SB book and read through for the rules and options. Not a bad idea to pick up a grocery list book either. You can get those at any book store....comes in handy when you hit those aisles that we're really not supposed to be in!
CHRGRL....way to go at the HOCKEY GAME....if I was at a function like that, hotdogs would be calling my name....
SMILEY...Get yourself a SB book.....either at a used book store or the library...you'll be surprised how often you will refer to it. WELCOME!!!
MONET....What did you end up buying at COSTCO????? Has Tom started looking yet?
THIN...Something tells me you don't really care for that bigger school. In your position, I think I would prefer the school you had before. How are the KIDLETS???? Are they glad to be back at school????
TONI....Whatcha cooking today? I have to go to the grocery and haven't a clue what I'm going to buy. Of course, I have chicken in the freezer, but
I'm after variety...
I'm off to fix another pot of coffee...I'll be back a little later!

Hi..
As far as oat meal..I eat the one serving 3/4 cup in the am.
I have read both the Sugar busters book, shopping guide and the GIndex diet by Richard Podell As far as clothing yes, old clothing I had "grown" out of this summer does fit. I like numbers though, as at first the scale was moving. Its tough having it stop. I will not give up, I will try to limit crackers. I do eat a fair amt of quilted Wheat's. (Whole wheat and salt) I like the crunchy in the afternoon. I can try that. I ran out last night anyways. Too much work to go to the grocery store the next few days. Can't eat what's not there!
I may be muscle, but how much muscle can one build weight wise before I have to say ok..its not working. Like I said I wont give up. I like hearing about eve one's days and weeks. Struggle's and success. I'll be sticking around. Thanks for the advice!!

Morning! I just woke up! :o I guess Tom is downstairs making espresso. I really should check, but I am enjoying the quiet.
BOB: I got cat food, a roast, eggs, frozen strawberries, broccoli, vitamin C, and Calcium Citrate. :) Tom has had a number of recruiters call, but no interviews set up yet. I expect that will start happening this week. Seems to be a lot of jobs available....which is encouraging.
TECH: Are you done with that coffee yet? You know we are missing you when you don't post!
CHRGRL: You did great at the hockey game! :bravo: Did your team win? Hockey is such an exciting game! I love how fast paced it is. Baseball puts me to sleep! :)
MEESH: First, :welcome: Glad to have you join us! My suggestions are these: cut out some of the starchy carbs, like rice and bread and crackers. Increase your vegetable consumption. And since you are working out so much, add more lean protein. Start the day with a protein breakfast instead of oatmeal. You can have two eggs, and add extra egg whites for more protein. Then, be patient. It may be you will lose like some others on 3FC who drop several pounds at a time, but only every two or three weeks! I can relate to your frustrations. I have thyroid problems in addition to being insulin resistant to the point of being diabetic, and it is just so darn hard to lose anything. One slip up and I gain a couple pounds! Just doesn't seem fair.
SMILEY: :welcome3: Sounds like what my doctor did. They told me I was diabetic, but never gave me any information to help me eat right. Thankfully, I knew, since I did Sugarbusters already. I had been under extreme stress, and had not been eating right for a month or two. Exercise helps tremendously. I check my sugar before and after a 30 minute walk, and the walk will reduce my sugar levels by 50 points. So, in addition to avoiding white flour, white rice, white potatoes, white sugar, corn, pineapple, and bananas, make sure you walk each day. Stick around and post your menu. We will love having you with us.
Ok, Tom just came in with espresso! Gotta go!

How is everyone this morning? :coffee:I've had breakfast and now I'm sipping on hot tea, so things are good here! I got on the scale this morning and I'm down 6 lbs in a week!:carrot: Hopefully I can use the accountablility from the challenge we are going to do at work to keep me on the wagon! Maybe BOB will not have to drive up to North ga anytime soon!!;)
Bob-I really do like the new school that I'm at. I loved the feeling we had in the older school, but it's being used for special ed offices now, so no going back. I have never worked in the type of environment we have now. The administrators are phenominal and stop by to chat and support us often. When I was leaving for Christmas break, one of them made the comment for me to know that they really do appreciate all I do for the students. yes, I am much busier here, but there's a lot to be said for feeling appreciated!!:D
Tech- Are you expecting snow?!?:snow4: I know you love it! And according to the weather channel Monet and I better pay attention later in the week as well! Possible freezing rain or sleet/snow. We'll see what happens!!
Hope everyone has a great day!! I'm gong to go update myticker now!!:goodscale

:welcome::broc: To all you new ladies. Its good to have you here. Ask lots of questions and someone will answer. I don't know where my last post went to. Or maybe I imagined I posted. LOL We went out to dinner last night and it was a real turning point for me. I always cheat when Steve takes me out to eat. And of course this was my 20th anniversery dinner so I was going to have something good. Like the fried shrimp, and baked potato. But you know something snapped in and I ended up having blackend salmon a salad and a grilled vegetable skewer. It was so good and filling and I even brought part of my salmon home. I was really proud of myself. Didn't get up in time this morning to start my soup in the crockpot like I'd planned. Its going to be vegetable beef so think I'll do that tomorrow.
Bob- Yippee :congrat: On that new job. My gosh the hours are great and so are the days. What are you going to do with that extra day home. I'm so glad you're getting away from that snot gal. I stayed up till 1 am this morning so Jackson and I slept in.
Monet- Hope you're having a lazy day today. You've been working so hard down in the gargio. How did that tea pot turn out?
Thin- My gosh girl I'm all envy for those wonderful 6 lbs. you lost. How heavenly. You're doing so good. Keep it up...
Meesh- I agree with chrgrl I think maybe a little to many starchy carbs. But other than that your menu looks great. Other than that it looks well rounded and yummy.
Tech- Are you enjoying the week end off. Hows the weather there.
Michelle- Its good to meet you. It will be fun getting to know you.
Smiley- This is such a good way of eating and so easy to follow when you get the hang of not eating the white stuff.
I hope I didn't miss anyone. The board is busy and this is so great. Everyone have a nice Sunday... Its 25 degrees here at 12:30 brrrrr.

Monet--Thanks for the welcome. I guess i'll try no oatmeal this week. 6 week slater i am a tad sick of it. The break I just bought is ezequal (sp) which is a sprout bread with no flour. Maybe this will help too. Other then having the egg beaters..Other good breakfast ideaS? It has to be a tad bulky cause I do my cardio in the am. I try so hard no not worry about the scale and just eat healthy. But really Id like results. Even every couple of weeks. Lets see.
Toni-Thank you as well for the welcome..Like I said I shall try this. Every day is some new challenge so it's always exciting. Haha
Again the more i read from old stuff from everyone the more excited I get to have found this site..YAY!!

Hey guys,
Yick. I had a good whine session with the fitness trainers at my gym. True, I have lost "inches" but not weight: and I mean minimal "inches." I am doing something way, way, way wrong.....like eating too much fat or something or my portion size is still too big......I am going to continue to write everything down but include size portion for now and give it to a nutritionalist. I just feel ripped off.....it's like being promised a paycheque after doing a lot of work and then the boss sez "sorry, we're not paying you." I had to keep pushing tears down as I vented yesterday because I felt like screaming. I will scream now:
Thank gawd sleep erases a lot of fine gritty details of the previous day.......

Tom and I took Kaeleb for a walk. I am feeling better and better, and my heel is hardly hurting at all, so I am encouraged!
MEESH: I am not much of a success story. I have some very complicated metabolic problems that make losing weight almost impossible. I have lost about 20 - 30 pounds, and have another 70 or more to go. I have been following Sugarbusters for about seven years now- since my old doctor recommended it. I have just been re-reading Montignac's book. His method is what Sugarbusters was based on. He recommends having a protein/lipid breakfast, OR a carb breakfast, but which ever you have, have a big one! I fudge a bit on Montignac's rules and eat a piece of ww toast with my breakfast. I take diabetes meds that make it almost necessary, or my blood sugar crashes and I get pretty sick. A big breakfast is a good idea. Then a medium lunch and a light supper as early as possible with NO eating afterwards is what Sugarbusters recommends.
CHRGRL: :bravo: You did great at Ruby Tuesday's! You don't want to get sick of salads. One thing I find helpful is to tell the wait staff that I can not have sugar. Now that I am diabetic, that helps even more. Then they are extremely helpful in getting me the info I need to make smart choices. A steak, and steamed veggies is available at most of those kind of restaurants, and would be perfectly legal.
TONI: I am SO proud of you! Now wasn't that salmon and the steamed veggies awesome!? I bet you did not miss the fried crap at all! You are doing awesome!
DTRMND: :welcome3: We look forward to getting to know you!

Toni, I made that stew today and it is very good! I'm sure I'll be making it again. I used one can of regular diced tomatoes and one can with the chiles and it's just on the verge of being too spicy for me, but I'm a real wimp when it comes to spicy foods!
I'm thinking about buying a used Total Gym. Does anyone have one? I know I need to do strength training to achive overall success (when I was in college I lifted weights and got really thin, even though I didn't weigh that much less than I do now) but I just do not want to join a gym.

Well I ran off and left my gym bag at home this morning, so it's gonna be really a challenge for me to go all the way home after work and go back to the gym to work out... I'm going to do my best not to be beckoned by the couch!
My eating was pretty good over the weekend... I ate legal foods, I've just been really hungry and I know I've been eating too many starchy carbs which is why the scale is standing still. My one at home is broken, so I'll have to get on the one at the gym this afternoon and see if I made any progress this past week. At least I made it to the gym 3 times, which is a big plus over the last few months!
:welcome2: To all the NEW faces!! We're glad you found us, stick around there is a lot of good advice floating around this board... and a lot of good ears/shoulders to cry on when things don't go like you want them to!!
MEESH - I am one of those people who can drop 10 pounds like it's nothing, and then the scale doesn't move for a month... so I feel your pain. Don't get discouraged!! The girls at the gym told me your body loses weight, then has to "readjust" to itself and you'll start seeing the scale go down again. The smaller pants tell you that you're still making progress even if it's not in the numbers on the scale right at this moment!! HANG IN THERE!! I agree with the other, limit those starchy carbs... they do me in all the time! I can only eat ONE starchy carb serving a day if I want to lose well. BTW - 1 slice of bread is a serving!!! (I know.. it kills me to only eat one piece of bread!)
MONET - You ARE a success story!!!! Despite your health problems you are hanging in there and trying to make good food choices and keep yourself healthy... that is SUCCESS IN ACTION!!! You are very inspiring!!!
BOB - WTG on the new position!!! I know exactly how you feel! My new job is more actual WORK, but so much less stressful environment with nicer people. It is SO MUCH NICER!! I hope you really enjoy it!!!
TONI - WTG on that dinner girl!!!! :carrot: See, doesn't it feel great to make a good choice and know you're not going to have to worry thru the meal that it will slow your progress?? I'm proud of you!!! :D
I do remember one piece of advice that was given to me when I first started SB that was really helpful. When I was learning to eat the right foods, someone told me not to worry as much about portion size, and just focus on eating the right foods themselves until the cravings went away and then focus on eating the right portions. Sometimes all the changes at once can be discouraging for people like me who like to do everything the EASY way!! So if I got to craving a snack I should NOT have... I'd just snack on legal stuff until I felt full, not worrying as much about how much I ate. (I've had to fall back on that advice this past week now that BOB ran the wagon over me and picked me back up!!) Anyway... whatever makes it work for YOU is what is important!!!
I hope the scale is good to everyone today... I'll try and post my progress in the morning cause I won't get to a scale till this evening. Have a WONDERFUL Monday and hope it starts a Great week for everyone!!!

Beth -Thanks so much for the advice. I know the gym bag thing. I keep a old set of gym pants and a tank top in my car with last seasons gym sneakers for times like that. Id rather feel scrubby and know Im at least doing something at the gym. Since I am a nanny I don't dress for style and end up wearing gym clothes to work so I give me self next to no excuses. What types of things do you do at the gym? I love the classes, but in a pinch use the eliptical.
I bread slice is a starchy serving? Man its no wonder I can't loose..I eat at least 2 slices, oatmeal, wasa crackers and a sweet potato. I guess I should have been eating chocolate..haha at least it taste better. This week its cottage cheese and grain cereal for breakfast. No crackers, rice or potatos to see if it makes a difference. Good luck making it to the gym. I was tired yesterday and today i am snowed it. By tomorrow i'll be climbing the walls.

MORNING EVERY BUDDY!!!
Woke up early but snuggled in until about 9a.m. Had my coffee, and now am doing some laundry. I have to go to the grocery in a little while, but figure I will let everyone get back to work from lunch first. The traffic is bad enough from the SNOWBIRDS and mix that up with REGULAR PEOPLE trying to eat within a limited amount of time...of course, the SNOWBIRDS don't understand that....THEY ALL feel the NEED to eat breakfast out and can't seem to grasp that WE have to go to work.......OK...I'm better now...RANT OVER!!
I'll be back afterwhile

Good Monday morning you all.... I've got my stew meat and roast juice in the crockpot going for my veggie beef soup. Hope I can make a good one. It will be a good way to get in my veggies this week.
chrgrl- Oh I'm so glad you tried the stew. I'll have to try it now. Maybe next week end. I'm a wimp to but Steve loves spicy.
sandy- That exerciseing would be tops with me. Thats the one thing I don't get enough of. Keep on going.
Beth- Good for you going back to the gym. Thats so hard when you work and are beat in the evening. You're sure building good habits. Good luck on the scales.
Gym- And a 1/2 of a sweet tater is one serving of a starchy carb. But I'm bad to eat the whole thing. Do you mean you're really snowed in? What state do you live in? Keep that there we don't need any in Missouri.
Ray- Wow you've got quite a soup there. Hope its yummy.
Well back to my coffee. I'll check back in a bit.

Hello everyone! I did not make it in time to say morning! :o I woke up early, and got up and started to fix espresso, but then Tom came down and took over. I had breakfast (shredded wheat) and espresso, and finished loading up the kiln and turned it on. Then I chatted with Tom some, and took a nap! I just got up and ate an orange and some homemade bread toasted with peanut butter. I guess I should call that lunch....
RAY: Please don't shoot yourself. Shoot the scale!
TONI: Hmmm! Veggie beef soup sounds wonderful! What all are you going to put in it?
BOB: I love the avatar. My sister in law (Orlando) sent us three months of citrus for Christmas. We got the second shipment Saturday and I have been peeling oranges just like your avatar and snarfing them down. Sure helps with sore throats and colds!
I need to go check on the kiln...back later!
Oh, and I want to tell you all that I am going to start a second half of January thread tomorrow, or tonight. We have gotten rather chatty and if I let it go until the end of the month, it is going to be difficult to navigate!

Happy Monday Ladies, Hope everyone had a great OP weekend.
I had to get my bloodwork done again this morning. My potassium was too low. What do they expect when I take 2-3 diuretics a day? duh! This was a nothing weekend. I cleaned house and did laundry Saturday and Sunday went to a bridal show with a friend of mine who is a bridal consultant. She was trying to get ideas for her show next weekend. Watched a lot of football. Eating was great. I had to make cookies for our church social yesterday and I only ate 1/2 of one, just to make sure they were done and ok to serve. I thought that was pretty good. At the social, I ate only fruite, 2 strawberires, 2 blueberries, & 2 pieces of pineapple. I know Pineapple isn't legal, but I thought it was better than a chocolate do-nut. I think I am down 4 pounds today. My scale is so crazy, I'm not really sure. I go to the dr tomorrow, so we will see what theirs say.
Meesh, Welcome to our group. I go to the gym 3 or 4 nights a week. My DD has a trainer and I follow her around. You are eating too many carbs. 2 is where i try to stay per day. I did WW for awhile and came back here. I lose much better on SB.
Beth, I buy the lower calorie bread that is only 45 calories a slice, so that way 2 pieces are 1 starchy carb. Sometimes, I still only eat 1 piece. You are doing great at the gym. Now don't stop at the couch tonight.
Sandy, don't worry about that scale, (easier said then done). An inch is great and your clothes will fit better. Hope you get back here more.
Chrgrl, We have a Body for Life gym set. It works arms, legs, abs, etc. We used it a lot when we got it and if I don't feel like going out to the gym, I will go down and get on it. Oh, BTW, carrotts are legal now.
Ray, you can scream here all you want. Hang in there, you will see a loss. People lose at different intervals. No one is alike. Inches, are a good thinig. I feel your pain, we go 3 or 4 times a week and I still don't lose like I think I should.
Toni, WTG girl, you did great at the restaurant. Happy Anniversary by the way.
Determined, Welcome, join in and ask away. You also will have a new best friend here, BOB, she is a TN nut.
Thin : dance: congrats on the 6 lbs. That is awesome.
Smiley, Welcome, Just ask any questions you have until you can read the book. It really helps. Try to have only 2-3 starchy crabs a day, like cereal, pasta, bread, crackers. Good luck
Bob, I'm so happy for you on the new job. Sounds like that lady is the one that should be let go. 4 days a week is awesome. I would like that. Good luck.
Monet, glad your heel is better. Those things take so long to get better. You are still so busy in the garage. I love oranges, but hate to peel them.
I think I got everyone, there are so many posts now, which is a great thing. Better get started on this desk whichi is piled high. Have a great OP day.
My food today is:
BF, protein shake
Snack, Banana (for my pottasium) which is very low right now.
Lunch: salad with 2 oz ham & 1 T feta cheese, apple
Dinner: pizza (home made with a ww crust, red & green peppers, onions, mushrooms, jalapenos.
Whew! I have been trying to post this since this morning and it keeps telling me the site is unavailable.

should i be counting steel cut oatmeal as 2 servings of starchy carbs? the side of the box says that one serving (1/4 cup) is 150 calories.
i did extremely well this weekend despite having to face 2 challenges: the hockey game and going out to eat with people from church. my next challenge comes this friday, when we are going to have dinner at someone's house (another church thing). they're having tacos, so i think i'll just take 1-2 of my own low carb tortillas and i'll be OK. i may also take some fruit to munch on when everyone else is eating dessert. i really want to stick to my guns and not cheat until my birthday (feb. 6th - the big 3-0!). on that day i WILL have a piece of cake and a scoop of ice cream.
i am scoping out some total gyms on craigslist and i think i'll try to buy one this weekend!

Toni-Yup I live in Mass and we got hit pretty hard this am. the only ecercise i'll get today is changing the laundry over (from the basement up 3 flights of stairs) and digging out me car tonight. I think there is about 6-8 in on the ground. And trust me this is our 6/7 snow storm since dec so we don't need it either. HA
Solly..thanks for posting your menu..Im trying to figure out what the heck to have now that I am only having one starchy carb. I had cottage cheese and applesause mixed with some cinammon and sml bowl of ceral for breakfast. sprout break with peanut butter for snack (i was starving) now its lunch and Im kinda like well now what. I usually have chicken and rice. its looking like chix and brocoli.
I noticed that I seem to be hungrier today since i didn't have oatmeal. What foods other then carbs keep you full?
Chr-Good luck with the total gym. If I had one it would collect dust. I have more videos to work out to than I know what to do with. Props to you if you can work out at home.

Well my soup is in the crockpot cooking away. I had my breakfast/lunch and it was oatmeal with dried cranberries and walnuts, a piece of homemade bread and some OJ. Need to get busy so will make this quick.
Gym- Yikes no oatmeal. Proteins help me stay full like eggs, peanut butter and cheese.
chrgrl- I would count that as only 1 starchy carb.
Solly- Will you bottle that enegy up. Dang girl you are so busy. Your food sounds great. Hope your blood work turns out good this time. I have to have mine this week. Think I'll probably go tomorrow.
Monet- I've got beef, cabbage, red bell pepper, onions, mushrooms, green beans and zucchini in mine so far. Might add a cut up sweet potato later.
Ray- We're both going to have some good soup....

BETH: I make ww pizza dough in my bread maker on dough setting. I pretty much just follow the recipe for whole wheat bread, add a couple tablespoons of wheat gluten to help it raise, and dress it up with olive oil, parmesan cheese and garlic, basil and parsley. I made it for a group of pizza snobs once, and they loved it. I essentially use two cups of warm water, and four and a half cups of whole wheat flour, a tablespoon of yeast, a dash of agave, and the stuff mentioned above..and don't forget the salt! :)

I'M BACK!!!!
I'm telling you, these PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!! I've decided to stop at the grocery after work on Tuesday. I don't have that much to pick up. I fixed chicken yesterday and I'll pop that in the oven after while, fix some brussel sprouts, gotta fix the rest of those collard's..don't want to lose them. I'm so lucky that green veggies are my favorites...
I ran down to WALGREEN'S to pick KATE up a new heating pad. Now keep in mind that it's not even a mile from my house to this establishment. BUT...I have to go down a major thoroughfare....I picked a time that would be lower traffic...NOT.....the idots are out then too! THEY THINK THEY OWN THE ROAD!! I'm lucky I made it back home! I'm in for the day...not going back out....I CAN'T WAIT FOR EASTER TO GET HERE SO THEY WILL GO HOME!!!
Whew!....that was a rough one.
MONET...Good idea about a new thread. We sent fruit out to some people this year also. I was so afraid the fruit wouldn't be good. It's really better after some cold weather and we ALL know that didn't happen until recently down here. I can't wait for Feb to get here...the FLA tangerines come into season and they are WONDERFUL!!
I'll return Ladies...My buzzer just went off or the dryer!

Ok I finished my day of way less carbs/Starchy items. I think you all are right. Although the day was rough I realized just how many starchy items I was eating. Almost 7 if you count bread as 1 pr slice.
Today's menu went like this (and I was hungrier than usual--apparently the starchy items made me less hungry) or I just thought about it more then I usually do. it didn't help I was also snowed in, so no gym. Blah
B- Heritage (natures path) and Milk (1 starch)
B- (hr later) 1 C FF cottage cheese, I container applesauce w/ cinnamon
S-2 PC sprout Bread w/ tbs Pb (2 Starch's)
L-2 C Broccoli and 4 oz tomato chx
S-Apple, ww van Yogurt, 1 1/2 C Blueberries (frozen)
D-Turkey Meatloaf 2oz, broccoli, sum squash, zucini (sp)
Dessert-diet hot choc mixed in coffee with milk
Then I brushed my teeth--Today was tough. I felt like I was hungry all day. It will just take adjusting used to. Im willing to do whatever it takes to loose. Being stuck is tough. Hopefully everyone elses' day was better.

Good evening everyone. My soup turned out good but don't know how Steve will like it. He's not big on veggies but needs to lose weight to. Eating has been good today. I'm just now having a snack. Which was a green banana that I will count as two fruits and a tiny square 70% chocolate.
Monet- Its been so long since I made homemade pizza I may have to try that again.
Ray- Oh my gosh I'm glad my soup didn't do that to me. LOL
Bob- My gosh the traffic sounds horrid. I don't blame you I wouldn't want to go out either.
wants- Congrads on that 1/2 lb.
Gym- I would have to have another oz. of that meatloaf it sounds tasty.
Well off to tv land. Have a good night.

GymRat: probably you were just thinking about food all day. that happens to me when i change my diet. everytime i eat something i'm thinking "ok, if i eat X now then i can't have Y later..." and so on and i get all obsessed with what i'm going to eat later on. once you get used to eating this way it shouldn't be as bad.
breakfast:
steel cut oatmeal with lite butter, cinnamon, 1 packet splenda (i bought blueberries yesterday and forgot them!)
dinner:
salad with romaine, feta cheese, sunflower seeds, cucumber, creamy caesar
toni's stew recipe
snack:
hot chocolate (made with 1 cup skim milk, 1 T plain cocoa, and 1 packet sweetener and some cinnamon)--is that OK? i know you can have chocolate that's more than 60% cocoa, so i'm guessing it is, but sometimes things are surprising.

Good evening everyone. I started this week out great, I did not eat anything I wasn't supposed to and I did an hour of exercise (step). I weigh in on Wednesday and I hope I see a drop but if not no big deal, I will just keep plugging at it until I get there!!! My only real problem I see is that I often eat dinner very late, any suggestions on how much and what I should eat when I eat real late (between 9 and 10). Thanks and have a great night everyone!!!
Ellen

CHRGRL: the cocoa and skim milk concoction is fine! Cocoa is ok. No sugar! :)
SANDY: If you HAVE to eat dinner that late, then by all means, make it very light! NO starches...just lean protein and veggies.
