Default Question about cooking turkey in electric roaster

Most Thanksgivings I cook the turkey in the oven. But this year, so I can have my oven for everything else, I'm cooking the birds in an electric roaster. It says to plan on cooking the bird about the same time and temp as you would if you'd cook it in the oven.

However, I'm cooking TWO of them (13 pounds each). So does that mean I have to double the time? Or will the birds still cook in about 4-5 hours? I mean, it says about 30 minutes per pound TOTAL. So I imagine I'd treat two 13 pound turkeys as one 26 pound, right? Or should I still go with timing it as 13 pounds?

Gads I hope that made sense!

My gut reaction would be that the 30 mins per pound rule has to do with thickness of the meat (bigger bird=thicker breast.) I'd think it'll take close to the normal time of a 13lb bird or just a tad longer since there will be two in there. Of course, I've never tried this so...

I'd call the manufacturer or a turkey hot line and ask them.

And I'd say you're probably right. Thanks for putting that into perspective, I was confusing myself

I'm guessing two 13-pounders would cook about the same time as one. I mean, it makes sense. If I'd put 2 13-pound turkeys in a regular oven, I definitely wouldn't want to cook them as long as I would one 26-pounder.
