Everyone must be having a very busy weekend, no new posts:( .
Last night the 50th birthday party was a bit disappointing mainly because of the heat. At 11 pm it was still 35 degrees:eek:. The party was a sit-down dinner, fully catered for. A marquee was set up on the lawns but with not a breath of air it was quite unbearable. I was also very tired so we went home about 12.30 am. DD was out at a 'hens night' and the boys had also gone out for the night. I then of course proceeded to lie awake till they came home. The boys came home at 4.30 am and the girls at 8.30 am:o .
Everyone was very slow to move today.
The forecast for the wedding is 36 degrees, so quite hot.
See ya all tomorrow
Cheers

Maria I would be dripping in that kind of weather. Nothing you can wear to be comfortable! But I hope it all goes well anyway:o
What a night out!
Today here it is gray and cold. Not a very pleasant day ahead I think. yesterday it was cold but at least we had sunshine.
Friend Jenye is back from her little trip so I expect she will be making an appearnace here soon.:D Whenever I take a vacation, I need another one when I get home to catch up. Sort of a vacation from a vacation.
Dieting is going slow this week, I had a bad day yesterday, so must make up for it today.
Have a great Sunday!:p

Trudy: Yes I do both meetings at the same WW center. I am enjoying it so far.
Slavika: One class has about 30 people and the other has 50. The one I trained at only had 20. It was on a Monday. Guess people dont like to WI on Mondays much.
Maria: Its so much work getting the wedding together and then in a matter of hours its all over with. We will need to see pictures once you get them. I bet the wedding is going to be beautiful!
Maria/Yum: I know what you mean about vacations! You always need another one to recoop from it!
Its beautiful here today. Im going to go out and do some shopping.
I could not get here at all yesterday. Was the board down? Or was it just me.
Later!

I do prefer the sun.
But Maria: as you know, there is sure a time when it is too much.
I wasn't as bad at weigh-in as I thought. I'm still over, but have gone down3# in about 4 weeks that I haven't been able to go weigh in. So just got to keep at it.
Thought today was the day we would go to another concert, but read the tickets wrong and were all ready when I discovered my mistake. The matinee is next week. :o
Talk to you all later. A big HI to you all. Ann

Hi Everybody
We had a really nice evening with Trudy and her DH and our other friends. :) My dinner turned out pretty good as we all like Pickerel Filets. I made a wild rice casserole with mushrooms/onions/slivered almonds to go with the meal but then I also found a recipe on the internet called,
KARTOSHNIK - it's a Potato Cake. I don't even know what the national origin of the dish is, but it was very good and I will certainly make it again. You mash up potatoes and add eggs, a little bit of cream, cheddar cheese, onion, and baking powder. You bake it in the oven until it is golden brown on top and cut into squares (like you would a cake) and top with sour cream. Wonderful recipe. The great thing is you can make up the mixture earlier in the day, and then just before baking I mixed in the baking powder. It only takes about 1/2 hour to bake. I had a little bit left over and heated it up in the microwave (perfect) and DH and I had some with our dinner tonight. DH and I went to the Mall this afternoon. I was looking to buy a long "cotton" dress (just to wear around the condo in Maui). I wanted something, in light bright colours but all that is out there is flannel/fleece...stuff like that. Of course since it's so cold now I guess I am the only one in the city that wants cotton. LOL :D Trudy brought me a bouquet of tulips when she came over yesterday, so at least my living room is spring like. Ahhhhh she's sweet.
Maria gosh that's far to hot to be all dressed up to go to a party. Having a "do" like that in hot weather should be casual attire. Lily I sure can understand why the Monday class is not as large. I go on Tuesday's, and after a long weekend even that is a killer. LOL :D Glad you are enjoying it. Ann good for you for getting back in the grove again and doing so well. This is some journey we are all on. We stop, we go, we rest.....and then there are the vacations. :p
Maria Yum our weather is not so good either. People even looked cold driving their cars today. :(
Talk to you all tomorrow. Night.

Slavika Sounds like your dinner was a success! Why dont you buy a new dress in Maui? I went nuts there and came home with a suit case full :dizzy: Would love to have that recipe for those potatoe cakes. Thats was very sweet of Trudy. I would keep her as a friend. :)

Here you go Lily
KARTOSHNICK - Potato Cake- serves 9.
from "recipezaar"
3 large potatoes, peeled and diced
4 large eggs
1/4 cup whipping cream
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup grated swiss cheese
3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup sour cream or yogurt
1/2 cup finely chopped green onions (, scallions)
1 In a medium size saucepan, add potatoes, cover with water and bring to boil.
2 Reduce heat and cook until done about 15 minutes.
3 When done, drain and discard water.
4 Mash potatoes and set aside.
5 Preheat oven to 450 F degrees.
6 In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, add whipping cream and salt and whisk until well blended.
7 Add mashed potatoes and whisk until blended.
8 Add both grated cheese and finely chopped onion and mix well.
9 Add baking powder and stir to incorporate.
10 Prepare a 9 inch square oven-proof casserole dish by spraying with a vegetable oil or rubbing inside with butter.
11 Pour potato mixture into prepared dish and level.
12 Bake in preheated 450 F oven for 35 minutes or until the top has a nice light golden color.
13 Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before cutting.
14 In a small saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter.
15 Cut Kartoshnik into 3 inch squares.
16 When serving, sprinkle with melted butter, add a dollop of sour cream or yogurt and a sprinkling of chopped green onions.
Lily I used 1-1/2 cups of mild cheddar (I didn't want a strong cheese taste) and I didn't pour 1/2 cup of melted butter over the cake either. I just drizzled a wee bit.
Yes, I will try and buy myself a long dress in Maui. Talk to you tomorrow. Good night Lily.

I have been tossing up in my mind if I should ask your opinion on the following. I do consider you all a friend and hope you will not think that I am stupid:^:
Yes it is to do with the wedding:dizzy:
Things are going along quite well. But...... ever since my dd let me read their wedding vows, I know I will get quite emotional and by that I mean it will not be just being 'a bit teary'. My s-i-l said that when her mother died she wanted to do the eulogy with her brother (my dh) in order to do this her doctor gave her some valium and she said it worked a treat. She still has two left and offered them to me. I have never taken anything like that before and I am a little apprehensive but also VERY tempted. I got two of them so I thought I could have a practice run on Thursday;)
What are your thoughts, have any of you had similar experiences? I wished I wasn't quite so anxious about the whole thing but alas I am.
The long range forecast is for 34 degrees on the day of the wedding and 33 degrees for the 'recovery party' or 'open house', the next day.
Look forward to hearing what you all think.
Cheers

At last I am back on deck again. Today was my weigh in and I have lost another kilogram taking me down to 92kgs. I did not expect this as I ate a whole packet of Snakes (the confectionary type) that are loaded with sugar, luckily they do not have any fat grams but, whew the calories, these are really high and I imagined having put on lbs, but no I still lost.
Thank you for welcoming me back Maria/Yum and I am here to challenge you once more. How about it?
Good luck for the wedding on Saturday and the party on the Sunday Maria. The weather doesn't sound to good but one consolation is that we get it after you, we are expecting it to be in the high 30's aswell. I hope that all goes well. It was great to speak with you last night.
Slavika - that Kartoshnick sounds great but isn't it s little high in fat? other than that - yummy.
Anne - Congratulations on your weight loss. Slowly and surely as they say.
Well girls until next time take care.

Slavika: Thanks for the recipe. Looks good.
Maria: I dont know what to tell you as those things scare me. I have never had them before so I cant even answer you.
Jenye: Welcome back! Yes the recipe does look high but you could cut it down by using less butter as Slavika said. And I would use Fat Free Half & Half and Fat free sour cream. Might not turn out as good, but Im gonna try it and see how it does.
Well Im off today :) So Im gonna go play.
Have a great day!

Hi Everybody
Maria It just really amazes me how much we are all alike on this board. When my Son (of course, my one and only child) was getting married I thought I will never get through this without making a complete fool of myself....crying my heart out (I don't mean the quiet discreet crying either). LOL :D I had gone to the rehearsal the day before the wedding and that was very emotional. I knew that at the wedding my brother was going to mention that although our parents, my son's grandparents had passed on they were certainly in our thoughts on this very special day. Well I thought I would just be on a emotional rollercoaster from the time I got up that day to the end of that day. I told a close friend of mine, that I was thinking of asking my doctor for just a couple valium to see me through the day. She said, "why. don't you want to "feel" anything on that day? I said of course I did, but maybe not SO much. She said, "first of all, not being used to valium, that I wouldn't know how it was going to effect me, and secondly, what was wrong with shedding a few happy tears at my son's wedding. Of course she was right, there is absolutely nothing wrong in that. Did I shed tears....oh boy, did I shed tears, but they were tears of happiness and joy. I had lots of time to repair my makup before the pictures were taken. So Maria, cry, that's what Mother's do at their kid's wedding. :) :) Did I help???
Jenye Hi and welcome back. The recipe had a nutrition breakdown and it said cut into 9 servings and each serving was 280 calories. Now the was based on using all regular ingredients. These are sort of the "can't change ingredients".
3 large potatoes 9 points
4 eggs 8 points
1/4 cup whipping cream 4 points
Those ingredients I left alone. But you can certainly use a "light" cheese or use less cheese (without it changing the recipe). Also you do not need to pour 1/2 cup melted butter over the cake either. I just drizzled a wee bit but next time I wouldn't put any. You really don't need it, but it was the first time I made the recipe and wasn't sure of what changes could be made) The last ingredient, the sour cream, well I know you could certainly use the light or the no fat. The original recipe (no changes at all) at 280 calories per serving works out to 5.6 points. If you don't use the butter that would take 12 points off the total recipe, so you would be at about 4.3 points per serving, which is not so bad.
Then using the light sour cream and a light cheese, you could easily get it to around 3.5 per serving.
Lily at dinner on Saturday Trudy and I were talking about the 1/4 cup whipping cream in the recipe and decided it was worth the 4 points to leave it in the recipe. It made it really quite rich tasting, then just leave out the butter (that you don't need). :)

Slavika - your advice on the valium is right on, in my opinion. Maria, you just need to realize that like all bride's mothers, you are going to cry, but it will be a happy cry. This is like birth--you want to remember every detail.
I go in this afternoon to give blood for my cancer test and then next week I go in for the examination. This will be a long week.
Trudy - sure hope your mom's surgery is over by now and she did well. It will be so worth it when she can walk again without pain.
Last WI I lost 1.2 pounds. Soon I will be at my pre-Christmas huge weight. Slowly but surely. I made the Cool Whip snacks with graham crackers that are 1 point and found out I can't do that. I must have eaten 10 at one sitting.
Maria - it is amazing that you are talking about the heat and we are all wearing woolies trying to stay warm. Such an interesting world with such variety!

Maria: I agree with Slavika 100%. You don't know what your reaction might be, and I do know a friend who took valium, and then had one drink, and she acted like she had six or eight, and was generally miserable herself, and made others feel that way too. Just be a normal teary Mother, and shed those happy tears with Motherly pride.:)
Slavika: the recipe sounds very good. I like the idea of the modifications, since I don't do saturated fat very much any more. I will give it a try too.
I did try the white chile and I liked it, my dh did not. Gave some to my neighbors, he liked it, she did not. But I will make it again and my dh can eat his spaghettios.:s: So for our Chile party I will make the no tomato alternative.
Time to go for a swim. It is warm enough today, and I need the exercise. :D See you later. :wave:Ann

Ann: Wow would be nice to go for a swim. I would freeze here tho. Lucky you!:)
Later Im off to do a WW meeting!

Maria I cannot sleep tonight and so I came just to read, however the valium question made me put in my 2 cents worth. When my Dad died, Mom's sisters and brother convinced her that she should take a valium..... bit mistake. She could not walk a straight line and she just felt terrible. It would have been better for her to face the funeral and cry and do all the things we do when we are emotional. She felt like the ground was not beneath her feet. Go to your DD wedding, and cry, make strange noises like we all did and then go and fix your make-up. You will be happy you did.
My Mom had her surgery this morning and was in her room by 5:00pm. All her vital signs were just fine. They gave her a spinal and then gave her enough medication to keep her sleeping. She looked good. When I left the freezing hadn't worn off so I don't know how much pain she has and how she is coping with the pain medication pump. I did phone this evening, but the nurses on the floor do not take calls after 8:00pm so I will call again in the morning. Enquiry said she was satisfactory. I have to tell you all this though. At random they assign a student nurse to a patient and she stays with them 2 full days. Mom has the cutest little gal called Tiffany. She has been plumping Mom's pillow, checking her every few minutes and making her as comfortable as possible. So sweet. Also if you want a private room then you have to pay $40.00 a day, everything else is covered in Can. Well they put her in a private room - no charge - because the 2 bed and 4 bed rooms were filled up. I don't know how long she will have the room..... but for the present she has a "private nurse and a private room".... :)
I am glad I came here to read tonight, you all made me smile and I will try to get some sleep now. We ate late and the GERD is giving me a hard time. I think it was Peggy who asked me about it. I take Losec every morning and Gas-X when I have trouble and that usually keeps me going OK., however with all the meals at irregular times lately, and the stress, I am kind of out of control. Hopefully things will settle down soon.
Bye for now...

Slavika thanks for posting the potato recipe. I am going to try it the lower fat way. You always manage to find the the best things to try. With all of your talents why don't you make a bright colorful dress to wear in Maui. Make it bright enough and maybe you will catch Tom's eye if you run into him. Of course he would probably notice you when you fainted away. I have to confess to having a senior moment that lasted almost a week. I couldn't think of Tom's last name. It came to me in the middle of the night. I hate it when that happens. How nice of Trudy to bring you tulips. They are so nice and springy.
Trudy you are so thoughtful. I am glad your mom came through the surgery ok. I just hope that she is not in too much pain. It also sounds like she is in good hands when you are not there. How long will she be hospitalized?
Maria I would be afraid to take the valium. I agree with everybody else. Go ahead and cry and then repair. Don't block your feelings. Be happy that you have raised a wonderful child. Enjoy the day but don't take anything so you can remember all the feeling that go with it.
Lily the receptionist-You have some big classes. I have always found that people splurge over the weekend and don't like to get weighed in on Monday no matter what program they are on. I always liked Tuesday or Wednesday meetings.
Glenda I will be thinking of you this week. I am sure everything will turn out ok but I know that the waiting is stressful. Congratulations on the weight loss. I just lost the last pound that I gained over Christmas. I am trying to be good and continue downward but somedays it is so hard.
Jenye glad you are back. I don't know what a "snake" is but I am not sure I would want to eat it by that name. I am not fond of snakes.
Maria are you staying warm? We are warming up today to the 50's. The snow all melted yesterday.
Hi Ann and to anyone that I missed. Have a great day all and Maria stay calm.

Good morning all: Today when I walked I needed wiper blades for my glasses. The fog is really thick and drippy.
Trudy: When I was fighting with the GERD they had me taking Zantac twice daily. A.m. and p.m. Can you take another of your Losec before you go to bed. It might help, especially now that you are on such an uneven schedule, and stressed. Glad your Mom has come through the worst of it, and the private room, and private nurse will help her and you a lot. Hope for her sake she can stay there for the duration of her hospital stay. I expect she will have to spend a week in rehab before she can come home. Will she come home to you?
Maria: Amazing to me that we all have given you the same advice. We do all seem to be on pretty much the same wave-length. :D

Hi Everybody Today's WW and I will have tea time, but it sure won't be the same without Trudy . I'll take notes :D so that I can tell her all that we talked about. I just talked to Dee and she'll be here for tea. She'll be leaving soon for her holidays to Puerto Vallarta. One of our other friends who is also coming for tea, leaves soon for her holidays and they are going to the Mayan Riviera (I think) to an all inclusive. When we all get back we will have even more to talk about. :) It's been soooo cold here the last while, I think we are all looking foreward to the warmth and sun.
Peggy I know I should just sew something up for myself, I have made myself a few over the years, but somehow this year I am just NOT in the sewing mood. I kind of looked at fabric a couple of weeks ago, but the fabric is like the clothes in our stores........all winter stuff. The few bolts of fabric kicking around from last year didn't "call" my name. LOL :D
Oh well Lily's right, I'll just pick up something in Maui. :) I booked myself in for a manicure and pedicure for the day before we leave. My feet/nails are not looking too good with all this cold weather.
I'll stop by later to see you all.

Maria I would not take any type of drug before the wedding or during the wedding. My luck and maybe yours too, I would wind up sleeping through the whole thing. Then There would be no memory's. Not a good thing. Wear your mother tears like a banner. We are entitled to them.
Trudy glad your mom came through surgery ok. Hope she isn't in too much pain. My mom was on a morphine drip that she could give herself just by pushing a button. And was told not to let the pain get to intense before she pushed the button. I think she was on that for three days. After that they gave her some kind of pills
My daughter came back to weight Watchers last night. She is a life member and a receptionist. She called me on Sunday and said she was coming back. She is up 60 pounds. so she has her work cut out for her. When she called on sunday it was to tell me that she didn't want to sit behind the desk at the meeting untill she had lost a big share of the 60 she has to lose. So she is back as a regular member. i am so glag because I have begun to worry about her health. With the history of heart problems in my family and her dads she needs to lose some pounds. Now if my youngest son would come tho the realization I would be a happier Mother.
Well I quess Ive rattled on long enough. You guys take care I'll checkin on you tomorrow.

Wow! Can you believe we all had pretty much the same advice for Maria regarding the valium? Of course, when I said it is like birth, you want to remember the details--that wasn't a good analogy. You want to remember it all BUT the pain. Oh well. I am an old broad and have long forgotten the pain!
Karen - I am so glad your daughter woke up and is back to WW. We always think we will take off a little first and then go back and we never do--we just keep piling it on.
Slavika, my friend, it is getting closer and closer! If you live in Canada, sounds like everyone goes somewhere warm for a holiday. We have had such a little bit of winter so far, hasn't been bad at all. Ah, but remember us all to TOM! Ask him when he is going to make another movie or be in something so I can see his rugged beautiful face again. SIGH!
Trudy - hope your mom is doing well. She sure lucked out on the private room, private nurse. By the way, do you like your healthcare system? Sounds great that you don't have to pay for anything. I have insurance and still pay a fairly good amount.

Thank you all so much for your advice.
Someone said how amazing it is that you have all offered the same advice. Someone else said that she would found it scarey well so do I and that is one of the reasons I asked for your input.
Again thank you very much, it is so appreciated.
I am enjoying reading your posts but my only input at this time can only be the wedding:dizzy: :^:
As the date is approaching, everything is falling into place and I am now really looking forward to the big day without the valium!
The weather forecast has changed a little but nothing to get perturbed about;- saturday still 34 degrees but a cooler change on Sunday and a very pleasant 23 degrees, perfect for the 'open house'. I have ordered 'party platters' to be picked up on Sunday morning and dh is getting the drinks organised.
I had a bit of a spring clean yesterday and did a huge amount of washing. The MC came for a bar-b-que to get the final details for the wedding and I finally stumbled into bed at 12.30am.
Not too much to do today:) so I might take myself for a walk along the beach.
Booked dd in for a massage tomorrow afternoon, I think I might treat myself to one next week.
Take care all,
Cheers
Maria
PS I am just re-reading all the posts and noticed Peggy asking if I was staying warm. We use Celcius so 34 degrees is getting into the nineties in Fahrenheit, so no need for a cardigan:D :D
