Default Mileage with Treadmills and Ellipticals

I've got a question about treadmills and ellipticals. When they give you the mileage do they take into account the amount of resistance/height you're putting on? Also, are ellipticals 'real' miles? I can do a lot more miles on the elliptical than on the treadmill with time, resistance & heartrate being equal.

Thanks for any info.

On the treadmill it does not take into the incline, the computer figures out the speed you are going and your time and spits out a number.

But if you google treadmill pace charts, then that chart will take into account the incline, and give the equivalent pace.
